Eparapo - Black Lives Matter (feat. Dele Sosimi)
Album: From London To Lagos (Remixes) [EP]
Wah Wah 45s are proud to present a new set of remixes, as well as originals released on vinyl for the very first time, from Afrobeat supergroupEparapo. Having come togetherduring the unprecedented events of the pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement, and despite being a project born from the privations of lockdown, their music is ultimately an expression of hope, resilience & resurgence.
The word "eparapo" means "join forces" in Yoruba, the language of Afrobeat. It's also the title of a track by the late, greatTony Allen- drummer for Afrobeat legendFela Kutiand lifelong friend and mentor of our very own "Afrobeat Ambassador",Dele Sosimi. Not only did Tony help to invent Afrobeat, he always looked for ways to push the boundaries, never content with recreating what had gone before but constantly expanding and developing the genre. This project hopes to pay homage to his legacy, and that of Fela Kuti himself. Its aim is to innovate, fuse and diversify while still retaining the essence of the music.
The force behind Eparapo is bassist, composer & producerSuman Joshi. He has been a member of Dele Sosimi's Afrobeat Orchestra for nearly a decade and has performed on stage with the likes of Tony Allen, Seun Kuti, Ginger Baker & Laura Mvula. He is also bassist with UK jazz ensemble Collocutor and fusion project Cubafrobeat.
Featured vocalist on both original tracks, and remixes, is the aforementioned Dele Sosimi - keyboard player and musical director for Fela's Egypt 80 as well as Wah Wah 45s recording artist on both his solo material and the recent collaboration with house music producer, Medlar.
The rest of the group comprises of bandleader ofAfrik Bawantuand percussionist for Ibibio Sound Machine and Keleketla,Afla Sackey; highly rated UK jazz vocalistSahra Gure; saxophonist, composer, producer and bandleader of the renowned forward thinking jazz outfit Collocutor,Tamar Obsorn; keyboard player, producer and front man for Lokkhi Terra and Cubafrobeat,Kishon Khan; one of the UK's finest and most in demand trumpeters,Graeme Flowers, who has played with Quincy Jones, Gregory Porter and many more; trombonist for Bellowhead and mainstay of Dele's Afrobeat Orchestra,Justin Thurgur; and finally drummer for Steamdown and Sons of Kemet, as well as the man behind the Nache project,Eddie Wakili Hick.
From London To Lagoswas inspired by a talk given by writerRoberto Savianoat the Hay Book Festival in 2016, just before the Brexit referendum. In it he described the UK as the "most corrupt country in the world". This was a reminder of how the leaders of so-called developed countries, conveniently suffering from colonial amnesia, still point disparagingly at the rest of the world and talk of "endemic corruption" and "Banana Republics". All the while the ill-gotten gains of organised crime syndicates, corrupt multinationals and military juntas across the globe are funnelled through financial centres such as London. Same trouble, different methods, greater scale. Of course the best way to divert the population from all this is to find distractions such as populist leaders who declare their countries "world beating" and scapegoats such as refugees, immigrants and other members of the underclasses. It has always been thus but it doesn't always have to be so.
This track was once more recorded remotely during lockdown and features an all star lineup of world class musicians from the UK Afrobeat and jazz scenes. Members of the Dele Sosimi Afrobeat Orchestra, Keleketla, Sons of Kemet and beyond have come together to create this powerhouse of a band. They encapsulate the meaning of "eparapo" and "join forces'' to fight a common enemy in the shape of corrupt and divisive ideologies.
Black Lives Matterwas obviously inspired by the movement of the same name and was the first track to be released by Eparapo in late 2020. Dele's voice tell the story slave ships leaving West Africa in the fifteenth century, the brutal conditions that were experienced on board, and the continued suffering of the African diaspora today. As always, half of the artist's income for this song will be donated to the NAACP - a civil rights organisation in the United States, created for the advancement of black people by means of following judicial policies.

Tarouf Abdel-Kheir Adam, otherwise best known as Etab.
Loved in Saudi Arabia, the late Etab was a renowned Afro-Arab songstress from the Kingdom. Born in 1947, she became a professional singer in the 1960s, making her the first female singer in Saudi Arabia. She had her first start at the impressive age of 13 where she earned her stage name, having been discovered by Talal Maddah. However, it wouldn't be until she moved to Egypt where she would find success on a global scale.
"What were her songs like?" you might be asking. Etab grew up as a Bedouin and, naturally, a handful of her songs often reflected her Bedouin roots. In addition to singing North African folk songs, at the time, she was also known to mix classic and contemporary songs. Her melody voice perfectly complements her songs covering a handful of genres. Her popular songs include "Khabruni Anki Maa Yadruni Anni," and "Gani Al-Asmar," both of which you should check out on YouTube.
She also performed in concerts across the region, with her early performance in Kuwait rising her to stardom. She produced a total of 15 albums, and even featured in three films, before retiring in 1997. In addition, she was also a member at the Union of Arab Artists and the Musicians Syndicate, advocating for women in music.
Etab was also a wife and a mother. She married her second husband, an Egyptian national named Farouk Farouq, before moving to Cairo in the 1970s. She would earn her Egyptian citizenship in 1983. She had two children, in addition to her first child from her previous marriage, who lived with her in the UAE after divorcing Farouq. But, in 1997, she was diagnosed with cancer before moving back to Egypt. She died on August 21, 2007, with Google Doodle making a tribute to the fallen icon in 2017.

What are all the Deities AUs so far? And what are some of your personal headcannons?
Ah, well I’ve never made an official count or list of DEITIES AUs / crossovers before now, I kinda just… make them up as I think of them, or as others’ bring them up??? But of the ones I know that I’ve shared on the blog or elsewhere, or that I’ve mused about myself, I can present the following under the cut, with the ones in bold that have links to their own tags.
Keep in mind that most of these are AUs that I muse about on my own or with friends, and in my personal free time. There are a few that I may hopefully explore for fun (after I resume my main activity with, y'know, the main story >>) and others are small niche AUs that may not be explored in depth, but they’re all fun to think about regardless. Just fair warning to not expect me to spill ALLLLLLLLL the headcanons I have in a row if you ask, I don’t have the stamina for it right now, but I may consider doing an AU ask theme later whenever I do…
[1] DEITIES x Pokemon AU – This AU combines my two loves and can easily be divided into several sub-AUs all its own – Deities as pokemon trainers? Deities as pokemon / pokemon gijinka? Deities as gym leaders? DEITIES but everyone has sacred pokemon forms?? PMD!DEITIES?? THIS ONE IS TRUE AU GOLD THAT NEVER RUNS OUT–
[2] DEITIES x Harry Potter – More specifically, I think of the “Deities at hogwarts” scenario in this AU, so DEITIES cast as students in their respective houses, their best subjects, their sacred animal as their patronus – one time someone asked about their ideal quidditch positions, and well, I tried.
[3] DEITIES x Avatar the Last Airbender – Specifically like, the DEITIES as element-benders or non-benders within the ATLA world. It’s a tough one because certain DEITIES would do well in multiple elements (Set as a lightning(fire)-bender or sand(earth)-bender??), but I try to stick to the ATLA lore and keep to one. No idea who the avatar would be tho…
[4] DEITIES Business AU – Admittedly, this is one that I shared with a friend, I would need to check with her to see if she minded me sharing certain details. But think of the whole pantheon as part of a big company, with the Royal Family as the top “chief officer” positions (CEO, CCO, CFO, COO, etc.), and other staff/interns in said company (plus chairman!Ra).
[5] DEITIES Mafia AU – Or crime syndicate, whichever is the better term?? Just think The Contendings but as a modern struggle between 2 opposing crime families/gangs. And knives and firearms, ofc.
[6] DEITIES Merfolk AU – Self-explanatory. Also technically not far removed from canon; some deities could transform their hybrid features to resemble merfolk if they really wanted to. I just, need to actually draw it out–
[7] Genderbent!DEITIES – Also self-explanatory, and also technically not far removed from canon, since deities can change their gender expression however it suits them. I don’t explore this too deeply though, I just like to imagine what their designs might look like, and how the dynamics in The Contendings might shift with Set and Horus as dueling goddesses, etc.
[8] Modern!DEITIES – Really just any scenario where the DEITIES are living in modern time. I like the version where it’s basically canon DEITIES in the farrrrrrrrrrrrrr future where everyone is at least 5000+ years old, fully adapted to contemporary society and living it up in the 21st century.
[9] DEITIES School/Gakeun/College AUs – Self explanatory, and a riff from Modern!DEITIES. Either the DEITIES cast as students or as teachers/profs/staff, or some combination.
[10] DEITIES Musicians / Band AU – Related to Modern!DEITIES but with all the deities as musicians, specializing in different instruments or vocals! Or alternatively, deities in an INDIE ROCK BAND or something!! Haven’t revisited it in a while though, or settled on which instruments suit them best.
[11] DEITIES Cirque AU – Think “Cirque du Soleil” or any modern circus with the DEITIES as skilled performers with different acts. But I also shared this AU with a friend who I’ll have to double check with.
[12] DEITIES Olympics AU – EVERY OTHER YEAR I wanna draw the deities participating in Summer Games or Winter Games as Olympic athletes in their respective sports and events, and I never have the time. BUT IF I DID!!! YEAH….
[13] DEITIES Vacations – Modern!DEITIES going on destination vacations “because they can” and to bring the whole pantheon together once in a while. Disney/Themeparks was the one someone recently brought up that I had in the back of my mind, but other attractions at applicable as well. I also had Las Vegas, NYC, and Hawaii in mind as well, with plenty of room for other destinations and countries-outside-the-US as well.
[14] DEITIES… futurepunk?? cyberpunk?? – IDK THE CORRECT TERM BUT basically the DEITIES storyline for The Contendings, but instead of Ancient Egypt, it’s “Ancient Egypt” if it had survived several millennia in the future – with modern advancement and technology in place of magic. I have more ideas regard this AU, but in the event someone else is planning to do a similar epic, I’ll keep my details underwraps for a bit until I can explore it myself
(Additional note: I’m not super invested in -punk AUs but I could acknowledge things like steampunk!DEITIES, dieselpunk!DEITIES, solarpunk!DEITIES, etc.)
[15] DEITIES In-game / Gaming AUs – Basically the DEITIES cast following the mechanics and designs of different game series I like, vicariously or otherwise – including Sonic (sanic!DEITIES and sanic teams), Splatoon (Inkling/Octoling DEITIES), Animal Crossing (DEITIES as animal neighbors), Super Smash Bros (The cast as SSB fighters), Overwatch (the cast maining different heroes) and, most recently, Dragalia Lost (Adventurer!DEITIES who tURN INTO DRAGONS…!).
[16] DEITIES Holiday Designs – Not really an AU, just the DEITIES cast in festive designs for certain holidays on the blog, purely for fun. So far we have Halloween DEITIES and their transformations; Set transformed as one of santa’s reindeer; and Set’s “B-day” for Valentines day (which, I really attribute to the kemetic community for that one, I just participated with Set drawings haha;;)
[17] DEITIES Crossovers – most of the AUs I mentioned are crossover, but here I mean when I or someone else crossover’s our stories or casts for non-canon fun. On my end, so far I’ve drawn Set as a demon from Koolaid’s Living When Dead, and the Set Spawn running into some other smol familiars. Also drawn a few other crossovers with those who drew me amazing giftart in years past.
[18] Other Personal AUs – Any of the other dozen AUs that I already indulge in with my group of friends and our personal OCs, but with the DEITIES cast as a cameo. You’d have to sift thru my personal artblog with my OCs to understand most of them (and some of them aren’t even publicly posted yet), but they  include, but are not limited to: Mythical!gijinka, Fantasy AU, vampire/lycan/witches AU, demons/angels (and the related deadly sins/heavenly virtues) AU… that’s about it that I haven’t mentioned before jskdfsdf

A court in Egypt has reportedly jailed for two years a singer who appeared in a music video in her underwear while suggestively eating a banana.
Shaimaa Ahmed, a 25-year-old known professionally as Shyma, was arrested last month after the video sparked outrage in the conservative country.
On Tuesday, she was found guilty of inciting debauchery and publishing an indecent film, local media said.
The video's director was also sentenced to two years in prison in absentia.
Shyma had apologised before her arrest to people who took the video for the song, I Have Issues, "in an inappropriate way".
"I didn't imagine all this would happen and that I would be subjected to such a strong attack from everyone," she wrote on her now-deleted Facebook page.
Last year, Egyptian courts sentenced three female dancers to six months each in prison after convicting them of inciting debauchery in music videos.
Another singer is meanwhile facing trial for "spreading provocative publicity" because she suggested that drinking from the River Nile could make someone ill.
A lawsuit was filed last month after video emerged showing Sherine Abdel Wahab being asked at a concert last year to sing Mashrebtesh Men Nilha (Have You Drunk From The Nile?).
She responded by saying "drinking from the Nile will get me schistosomiasis" - a disease caused by a parasitic worm that is commonly known as bilharzia.
On Monday, the Egyptian Musicians Syndicate announced that it had decided to ban Abdel Wahab from performing concerts in the country for two months.

Seven arrested in Egypt after raising rainbow flag at concert Egyptian police have arrested seven people after they were allegedly seen raising rainbow flags at a concert in Cairo last week, security sources say. The seven were reportedly detained on Monday for "promoting sexual deviancy", but have not yet been formally charged. Prosecutors opened an investigation after images from the concert by the Lebanese band Mashrou' Leila - whose lead singer is openly gay - went viral. Homosexuality is not explicitly criminalised under Egyptian law. But the authorities routinely arrest people suspected of engaging in consensual homosexual conduct on charges of "debauchery", "immorality" or "blasphemy". The advocacy group, Solidarity With Egypt LGBTQ+, said late last year that it had recorded 114 criminal investigations involving 274 lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals since 2013. The raising of the rainbow flag was a rare public show of support for the LGBT community in the conservative Muslim country. Late on Monday, the state news agency reported that Public Prosecutor Nabil Sadek had ordered an investigation by the State Security Prosecution after images posted on social media were condemned by several politicians and media figures. The deputy head of the Egyptian Musicians Syndicate, Reda Ragab, meanwhile said it would be taking steps to stop Mashrou' Leila performing again in the country. "We are a religious, conservative society, an identity we need to preserve," he told the Daily News Egypt website. "This is a scandal against our traditions and far from serious and meaningful art." The Egyptian feminist and writer Mona Eltahawy condemned the actions of both the authorities and the musicians syndicate. "It is utterly ridiculous to arrest anyone for waving a flag. It is utterly ridiculous to arrest anyone for their sexuality as #Egypt does," she wrote on Twitter. Mashrou' Leila has twice been banned from performing in Jordan. On Saturday, it said the Cairo concert "was one of the best shows we've ever played". "Was an honour to play to such a wonderful crowd! So much love!"

Celebrating The Delightful Dachshund
#Poop4U
The post Celebrating The Delightful Dachshund by Allan Reznik appeared first on Dogster. Copying over entire articles infringes on copyright laws. You may not be aware of it, but all of these articles were assigned, contracted and paid for, so they aren't considered public domain. However, we appreciate that you like the article and would love it if you continued sharing just the first paragraph of an article, then linking out to the rest of the piece on Dogster.com.
Comical yet courageous, playful yet stubborn, the Dachshund is adored throughout the world. Here are eight fun facts about this happy hound.
1. Germany by way of Egypt?
Some dog historians and breed authorities maintain that the Dachshund dates back to ancient Egypt, where engravings depict short-legged hunting dogs. Cairo’s American University offers Egyptian burial urns containing mummified Dachshund-like dogs that would support this theory. There is no dispute that modern history credits German breeders with the creation of the Dachshund, incorporating German, French and English hounds and terriers. Royals including Queen Victoria enjoyed the company of Dachshunds in aristocratic courts throughout Europe.

2. Three coats, three sizes
Dachshund (pronounced “daks-hoont”) means “badger dog” in German, and this was the traditional quarry that the larger dogs scented, chased and flushed out of their burrows. The more diminutive dogs hunted smaller prey such as rabbits. In North America, two sizes are recognized: the Standard, weighing between 16 and 32 pounds, and the Miniature, weighing 11 pounds or less at one year of age. A third size is recognized by the FCI (World Canine Federation), which contains kennel clubs from 83 countries around the world: the Kaninchen (German for “rabbit”), which weighs 8 to 11 pounds. Dachshunds come in three different coat varieties — Smooth, Longhaired and Wirehaired — and any size can come in any coat. So there is a “Doxie” to suit every lap, taste and household.
3. Built for the job
Although the Dachshund has one of the most recognizable silhouettes in dogdom, his shape serves a purpose. He is long-bodied and muscular with short, stubby legs. His front paws are disproportionately large, paddle-shaped and well-suited for digging. He has a deep chest to provide ample lung capacity for energy on the hunt. His skin is loose enough to prevent tearing while he tunnels in snug burrows to chase his prey.

4. All hound
While the Dachshund makes a charming and playful companion, he is a stubborn hound through and through, with high prey drive. The American Kennel Club breed standard describes the Dachshund’s temperament as “clever, lively and courageous to the point of rashness, persevering in above- and below-ground work, with all the senses well-developed.” Dachshunds love chasing small animals, birds and tennis balls, so keep pet rodents and feathered friends safely out of their grasp.
5. The versatile Doxie
With his big-dog attitude and confidence, the Dachshund is a popular show dog, as well as a frequent competitor in obedience, agility, flyball and rally. Two newer dog sports, Earthdog and Barn Hunt, showcase the breed’s speed and hunting prowess, as the dogs strive to catch a concealed, safe-from-harm caged rat in a controlled setting.
6. A rainbow of colors and patterns
Photography by: ©DarioEgidi | Getty Images
The color palette is virtually unlimited for Dachshunds of all three coat varieties. One-colored Doxies include red and cream, with or without a shading of interspersed dark hairs (called “sabling”). Two-colored Doxies include black, chocolate, gray and fawn, each with deep, rich tan or cream markings over the eyes, and on the cheeks, throat and chest. Dappled Dachshunds have a marbled, mottled pattern of light and dark color; most commonly seen are silver, blue-gray and chocolate dapples. There are also brindles (dark stripes on a lighter background) and piebald Doxies (with clearly defined areas or patches of white on one-colored or two-colored dogs).
7. Confident hunter wanted
While Dachshunds have become hugely popular as pets, the breed standard emphasizes the hunting heritage of the breed. Dachshund movement is described as “fluid and smooth,” never “short, choppy movement” or a “high-stepping gait.” The Dachshund is prized for his “agility, freedom of movement and endurance to do the work for which he was developed.” Shyness is considered a serious fault and knuckling over of the front legs, which would slow him down on the hunt, is a disqualification.
8. Celebrity Dachshund owners
With his confidence, sense of humor and unique looks, is it any wonder the Dachshund has a host of famous admirers? Among the entertainers and musicians who live with Doxies are Jack Black, Josh Duhamel, Kirsten Dunst, Ashley Olsen, Adele, Clint Eastwood and David Hasselhoff. David Bowie owned Dachshunds, as did artists Andy Warhol and David Hockney (Hockney illustrated at least one book about his dogs), and syndicated gossip columnist Liz Smith.
