If there was one thing Sunset Curve, then later Julie and the Phantoms would rely on, it was the battle between Luke and Reggie. Since the conception of a band between the friends, Reggie had always wanted to play a country song. He had learned how to play the banjo in preparation, but Luke rejected both the idea and songs as always.
"You said our sound was vintage '80s and '90s rock music Luke. The band evolved into a pop-rock sound-"
"Because our band changed from Sunset Curve to Julie and the Phantoms. I love you, man, but there's no way we're going country." Luke finally snapped with a heated glare on his face. Luke didn't mean to snap so severely, but it happened.
Luke watched as Reggie's face completely dropped into the kicked puppy expression that tore everyone apart. Instead of making light of the conversation, Reggie mutely nodded in response before turning to grab his bass for the band practice. Luke's stomach dropped at the rather odd behaviour, but Luke blamed his response on his current writers' block.
"Let's start with Flying Solo." Luke proclaimed, hoping Reggie's favourite song would cheer him up. Alex's curious gaze bounced between the two other males in the band just as Julie wandered into the garage.
Before Julie could even question the tension, Reggie had started the beat on the pad stationed on the keyboard. The young female immediately jumped into the first rehearsal song with ease. Every attempt Julie was about to question Reggie's uncharacteristic quiet, the bassist started a different song.
"What's his problem?" Julie questioned as Reggie packed up his stuff and practically sprinted out of the studio. He'd rejected the offer of a pizza movie night.
"Luke here decided to be an asshole again." Alex's tone of voice was sugary sweet in comparison to the glare he sent his guitarist.
Luke flinched at the furious expression on his bandmate's face. It wasn't a secret Julie and Reggie gravitated to each other in sibling bond. The two had been friends since infancy through their parents; Julie was there when the Peters started fighting. Reggie was there when Julie's mom passed away.
"Don't kill me!" Luke pleaded, scrambling around the piano from the intimidating Puerto Rican who had a solid punch. Julie's anger faltered at the guilt on the boy's face, "I was frustrated, and I shouldn't have taken it out on him!"
"What did Reggie do to deserve it?" Julie asked from the other side of the piano, acting as a barrier between the teenagers.
"He asked about the band doing a country song," Luke admitted with a grimace. His hazel eyes dimmed once more.
"What is your issue with country music? Your girlfriend is literally a country singer Luke!" Alex cried, stepping in between the two feuding bandmates.
Rock n' Roll Luke Patterson had been dating a well-known country singer for close to two years now. Luke had always been adamant that country wasn't all it was cracked up to be, but if you looked in the false bottom of the console in his car, you'd see a different story. Beneath the Eagles, Nirvana, AC/DC, and Gun N' Roses CDs, you'd find countless CDs of his girlfriend. He even had a playlist with a name that concealed the music in it.
Luke was a secret country fan, but he'd take that to his grave before he let anyone other than you know that.
"I don't have an issue! I don't think our band would benefit from branching into that music genre!" Luke argued with his bare arms crossing over his chest. Both Julie and Alex were about to respond when the studio gained another inhabitant.
"Would anyone like to explain why Reggie stormed into my house holding his songbook? He literally dropped it in my garage and tried to light it on fire?" You asked from the double doors with said book in your hand.
All three out of four members of Julie and the Phantoms recognized the book with a country landscape. The sight caused all their stomachs to drop at the obvious symbol of Reggie's hurt feelings.
"Funny story-"
"Luke Patterson...did you hurt his feelings about his love of country?" You asked through clenched teeth. Your response was Luke wincing at the anger blistering in your tone, "Did you ever think that country music is his comfort music? Fix this, Luke. Reggie, of all people, doesn't deserve your frustration."
You turned on your heel with Julie following in the attempt to find the forlorn bassist, most likely being hard on himself. You checked the beach house Reggie's dad had gotten in the divorce to no success. The school auditorium was empty, and so was the stable where Reggie worked part-time for the horses. You had returned back to Julie's house to sit on the porch to brainstorm.
"Isn't this the week he's with his mom?" Julie questioned with a furrowed brow. You could only shrug as Julie pulled up the calendar she shared with Flynn.
Reggie's parents had somewhat amicably divorced two years ago after attempts of reconciliation through therapy. Reggie had sat down with them to tell them how he felt with them fighting, if you recalled. They decided to do a trial separation for a few months and, in the end, had mutually agreed to divorce.
"I think Mr. Peters is taking care of his mother in a different state. She broke her hip, and now she's being moved into a retirement home." You offered the girl the encapsulated sunshine in just her smile.
"I suppose we'll try the Carter-Peters home." Julie breathed, bouncing on her feet to your car parked in front of her house. Julie's fingers tapped the screen in a chat thread she hadn't touched for months.
Your keen eyes easily read Carrie Wilson's name at the top of the thread that had been dormant since the end of their friendship. Apparently, Julie received little help in the frustrated sigh she released and the increasingly violent tapping of her screen.
"As usual, Carrie is no help," Julie announced with disgust in her voice. She squeezed the hand you placed on her knee before your hand returned to the wheel.
"One day, you'll have to tell me what happened between the two of you."
"Old news. Happened just before you moved back from Nashville." Julie once more avoided talking about the issues.
It was the same response every time you questioned the friendship that had fractured in the few years you'd been in Nashville. Before you left, Carrie and Julie had been attached at the hip, and when you came back, they were at each other's throats. Well, mostly Carrie was because Julie had too big of a heart to stand up to her former friend.
"Well, the beat-up van is still there." Julie caught the van, more of an eyesore, to be honest, sitting in the three-car driveway. The van was shared between Reggie and Flynn as a joint gift from their parents when Reggie's mom moved in with Flynn and her father.
"We both know Reggie-"
"Would walk to work through his problems. The number of times I've found in walking downtown…" Julie trailed with a shake of her half up half down hairstyle she left uncovered by a hat. Another symbol of her finding herself outside the grief that had concealed her.
"Oh, thank god." Flynn moaned from the front porch with her headphones resting on her shoulders instead of her ears, "He's been playing his old bass that makes that odd high pitch squeak noise. I couldn't take it. Get him out!"
You opened and closed your mouth with the inability to find the words, but Flynn knew already, "Doors unlocked. He's in his room."
"Thanks." You informed the fashionable teenager before brushing passed into the house. Not much had changed since Reggie had moved part-time into the house; his parents shared custody.
Flynn was right; the sound of that screech was like a bread trail to the last bedroom in the hallway to the left. The door opened a smidge to reveal Reggie sitting in the dim room with just his bedside lamp on. He was lying on his bed, staring at the ceiling.
"Hey, Reggie." You breathed from leaning against the door jam, "I'm not sure what Luke said but don't give up on writing. Your songs mean something, Reginald."
"Then why doesn't Luke even read my lyrics? He barely read the title of my last one before tossing it aside!" Reggie whined before taking on a caricature of Luke's voice, "'Home is Where my Horse Is'? Reggie, stop putting your songs in my book!"
You couldn't help the snort at his interpretation of Luke, "That's a...uh...an accurate voice?"
Reggie didn't even crack a smile.
"Okay, maybe don't push Luke's buttons but imagine turning this hurt into songs!"
"Okay. Can I be left alone?"
"Sure." You sighed, turning to leave the room again, "But first. Don't get rid of this Reg. You have good songs."
You left Reggie's songbook on the dresser by his door on your way through the Carter-Peters household. Flynn sighed in relief when Reggie didn't continue using his old bass and even waved as you and Julie pulled away from the curb.
Reggie's eyes had stayed on the songbook you left on his second-hand dresser as if it would get up and bite him. All he could see was Luke rolling his eyes when Reggie had opened the book to show him a new song he'd written. Reggie was tired of only being known for playing bass.
"I brought you some leftover pizza." Reggie wasn't aware he'd been staring at the songbook for hours by then. He was only aware of Luke when he offered a peace offering in the form of Reggie's favourite food.
"I-"
"I'll go grab a soda from the fridge." Luke retreated just as quick as he had entered the bedroom. Seeing Luke was like rubbing salt in the open wound, and once more, Reggie's emotions flared.
Reggie was already at the fire pit in the backyard when Luke had argued with Flynn overtaking one of her sodas. The soda that had dropped on the back porch as Luke saw Reggie's fingers about to drop the songbook in the crackling fire.
"Reggie!" Luke shouted, ignoring the cold spray of soda on his bare arms. The hazel-eyed guitarist shoved Reggie away from the fire.
"What the hell, dude?" Reggie groaned, rolling onto his stomach to push himself to his sit on his knees. His blue eyes seeing Luke stomping the ignited corner of the songbook that had caused them issues.
"What the hell were you doing, Reggie?" Luke demanded with the songbook held tight in his grip. The glare on the messy-haired teenager directly pinned on his best friend, "Why would you try to destroy the book?"
"What's the point of having something our band won't branch into?" Reggie shrugged, moving to sit with his knees pulled to chest, "I've tried to keep the peace but Luke. I'm starting to understand why Bobby left the band."
Luke's heart clenched at the honesty Reggie was revealing, "What do you mean?"
"Screw the blood pact." Reggie grumbled, recalling the oath Alex, Bobby, and he had done to keep the truth from Luke, "Bobby didn't leave because he got an early acceptance into Juilliard."
Luke's eyebrows furrowed together, "What?"
"Luke...you tend to get possessive over the music we make. You brushed off Bobby's opinions, and we all didn't want to hurt your feelings. You've had a shitty time with your parents, but like Bobby, I feel like you don't appreciate our talents."
"What? Dude, you're killer on the bass! Alex's insane on the drums!"
"We know that. Maybe Bobby should have told you the truth on why he was leaving. I don't think you noticed but
"Luke. The songs we perform are all written by you. It was fine, but then when Julie joined, all of a sudden, you were okay with someone else writing with you. But you've never even looked at the songs I've written."
Luke silently listened as Reggie rambled on about how he, along with Bobby, felt underappreciated by the guitarist.
"And now you've been bit by the writers' block bug, but I think the band should take a break. Get our heads back on straight. Before we destroy the band, destroy our friendships." Reggie told his best friend with tears rolling down his face, "Just a week or two."
Luke's mouth hung open as Reggie circled around him to enter the household, but the telltale sound of the lock engaging broke the teenager. But Luke wasn't one to give up, so he created a group chat with Alex, Julie, Flynn and you. A single text that had all of them meeting at the studio.
"He quit the band?" Alex demanded, taking the songbook from Luke's hand, "What the hell?"
"One second he's in his room, and the next he's about to burn that! I may not like-"
"Luke, have you even read a single song he wrote?" You asked your boyfriend with your arms resting down on your knees. The boy in question half-heartedly shrugged with his eyes on his battered shoes.
"How are we gonna fix this?" Julie asked with a frown marring her pretty face usually lit up with sunshine. Her question was left to waft in the forlorn atmosphere in her family's studio.
"Give me that." You demanded towards the band's drummer with determination lit up in your eyes. Alex hesitantly handed over the songbook to your grabby hands.
The other individuals in the room watched as you settled into a chair with a stray acoustic guitar you'd left. Your eyes focused on the notes Reggie had placed around one of the unfinished songs. The soft melody was played a few times before you noticed Alex creating a beat with his drums.
"If I just tweak the song to make this piece the verse instead of a chorus." You mumbled under your breath with a pen scratching the paper. In a different colour, you jotted down the lyrics of a song you'd been working on previously. It was a song you'd struggled with the ending.
Alex huddled around you to add his own notes for the drums, "Definitely a song with a soft backing beat."
"Perfect. I just joined what he has with a song I'd given up a while back. The two songs are the last two pieces of a puzzle." You informed the drummer. Both of you unaware as Julie, Luke, and Flynn watched your brainstorming.
Luke felt out of sorts not being included in writing a song, but he thought it was suitable to not work on it. It gave Luke insight into how Reggie felt not being included in songwriting.
"I have an idea." Luke interjected with a grin, "Reggie's always wanted to see a real ranch. Do you think your uncle would be okay with us staying at the ranch?"
Your eyes flitted up to the mischievous hazel of your boyfriend's scheming gaze, "My uncle adores having people on the ranch. He'd enjoy teaching Reggie the ways of ranch life out of a city."
"How are you gonna get Reggie out to Nashville without it being band business?" Flynn questioned from her position on the couch, "He did just ask for a break from the band."
"Uh...I could pretend to enter a music competition." You offered hesitantly as you'd never actually performed on a stage for the group. You'd kept your personal life separate from your successful career as a country musician.
So you conspired with your friends to make amends with the bassist.
Tumblr media
One Month Later, Nashville
The beat-up van pulled into a parking spot in front of a building. The band had seen the building in pictures on your Instagram. Alex, Luke and Julie all shared a look Reggie couldn't catch with his mouth wide open at the city.
"So, where's this competition?" Reggie inquired with his steps in line with Julie. The distance between Reggie and Luke is still noticeable.
True to Reggie's word, the band had come back together after two weeks of a break, but the bassist and guitarist's friendship was still fractured. A particular cloud of awkwardness followed each attempt; Luke tried to branch it together.
"Uh, not here. Y/N invited me to tour the recording studio she uses through her label." Luke offered to the confused bassist. As usual, Reggie barely cast a glance at the guitarist.
"C'mon!" Alex called out from the open doorway with the new addition of you by his side.
Luke was quick to nearly tackle you in a hug and a lingering kiss on your lips. The band all made sounds of feigned disgust. Even Reggie joined in the usual banter within the group.
"Hey, Reggie, do you want to see how us country artists do it?" You quipped with your arm interlocking with his. The cold leather of his jacket raising goosebumps on your arm as you dragged him to the recording booth.
As soon as he was comfortable on one of the spinney chairs by the producer's side, he watched like a hawk. The band had never been in a real professional recording studio owned by a label. It was interesting to everyone, but mostly they all watched Reggie's reactions.
"I was working on this song." You spoke from inside the booth. With a nod, your producer began playing a portion of the song.
"Is...is that-" Reggie was cut off by as Luke interrupted him.
"Your song? Yeah."
Reggie stared at his best friend, "What?"
"You were right, Reggie. I didn't appreciate what you could bring to the band, and I'm so fucking sorry about that. You have excellent songs even if I'm not a fan of country music." Luke genuinely informed his best friend with his hands clasping his, "I want you. Both you and Alex to have a bigger role because we started this band together. We all share responsibility."
"So for now. Alex and I finished one of the songs you had written. I was wondering if you'd like to make it a duet? Release it as a single with a full writing credit."
Reggie absolutely beamed in response to your question. He was in the recording booth beside you in mere seconds.
For the week the band stayed on your uncle's ranch, Reggie was in the studio with you going over the song. It is a song you released as the leading single for your upcoming studio album with Reggie and cemented his career. It wasn't the last time you did a song with Reggie. In fact, he set himself up as a sought after country songwriter.
"Holy shit!" Luke shouted as soon as Reggie told him the success of one of the songs had brought interest to Julie and the Phantoms, "I could kiss you! I'll never doubt your skills!"
Reggie and Luke's fractured friendship healed with the promise of a yearly visit to the ranch in Nashville. Plus, Reggie impressed Luke and Alex with the banjo riff in a country song the band released on their third studio album featured by you. Reggie would always be thankful he had the chance to record ‘Lay Here With Me’ with you.

RUNNING TO YOU.
You turned down a dark hallway, your heels clicking against the granite floors. As you frantically looked around the venue, looking for the one person who made your world spin.
A dark hallway, after another you were met by emptiness…. you just longed to find him before it was too late.
You could hear his laughter echoing off the walls, frantically you ran faster before turning a corner running into him.
Your body hit his hard, knocking the breath right out of you.
Meeting his eyes, he smiled down at you… It was his wedding day, and all you could think is he was making such a mistake.
“Nick…” you barely whispered. His smile shining across his face, happiness overwhelming his features.
what do we think?? do you want more??

“Please.”
“No.”
“Pretty please.” Julie smiled sweetly.
“No.”
“Pretty please with a cherry on top?”
You looked up at her.
“Two cherries? Three. I’ll buy you the biggest milkshake with as many cherries you want.” Julie nodded.
“Or just the milkshake and you stop asking me to go to the Red Barn.” You copied her sweet smile.
“Y/n it’s just one night out, it won’t kill you. All I ask of you is that you come out, get some booze in ya, and have fun for once!”
“I have fun.” You battled.
Julie tilted her head not believing your bullshit.
“I just don’t understand why I need to go!” You exclaimed. “Besides we have that paper due next week.”
“Y/n, it’s Friday!” You flinched hearing Julie exclaim.
“Exactly, enough time to start early on it. Thanks Jules.” You slapped the side of her shoulder with a smile. You closed your locker and walked past her heading to class.
“Y/n we are not done talking about this!” She yelled after you. The bell just now rang over your heads through the coms.
“Oh sorry, can’t hear you. I’m late for class…and allergic to fun.” You motioned to your ear.
“Y/N!” Julie threw her arms up annoyed. “I know where you live, Y/L/N.” She sighed then turned around walking around the corner, flinching upon seeing Luke, Alex and Reggie huddled up together.
“Soo, how’d it go?” Alex sang. Julie groaned and rolled her eyes.
“Your turn.” Julie walked by smacking Luke upside the head as she continued her way down the hallway.
“Ow!” Luke frowned rubbing the spot she hurt him. He looked back at her then back at his boys. “Anyone got any ideas?”
Alex shook his head no, and Reggie…was distracted by his jacket’s zipper. Luke sighed and threw his head back groaning.
He was about to give up when he noticed Flynn walking the opposite way. “Flynn!” He yelled after her, startling the poor girl.
-
You stood with your back against one of the shelves in the library. Your thoughts were lost within the storyline of the book you held in your hand.
“Psst…” You stopped reading your sentence and raised your eyes to look around. After no noise came you shook it off and began reading again.
“Psst…” Okay you definitely weren’t imagining it that time. “Y/n.” A voice rushed out quietly. You looked around until you spotted the familiar braids. You stepped forward eyeing Flynn suspiciously as you met her eyes through the book shelves between you two.
“Flynn?” You emphasized wanting her to get to the point.
“Reason with me.” She began.
“Don’t I always?” You chuckled. She eyed you nervously. “Alright, make your case.” You sighed urging her to begin.
“The Red Barn. Known to be one of the most popular places to hang out. Also, it’s where many musicians or singers in the making get noticed.” She nodded. “Added bonus, there’s cute guys, booze…” Flynn trailed off feeling like she was losing you. “Dancing, um stargazing on the upper level. Best place to be kissed too. Or the stage, where you work your magic and win the hearts of fellow classmates and college boys.” Flynn smirked. You smiled, rolling your eyes at her.
“Or Luke.” She added. You sighed smiling at your feet. “When are you going to tell him, Y/n. He clearly likes you too. It’s just a matter of when.”
“Everything’s just easier with him.” You closed your book shut. “I’m just scared of what will happen if we let this thing between us, ya know happen. I can’t lose my best friend.”
Flynn felt for you, yet she and Julie were fed up playing matchmaker, trying anything to get you two together. So she decided to tell you the truth.
“Ya know, he’s been the one trying to get you to come to the barn.” You perked up at this. “He hasn’t stopped talking about you all day. I’m getting tired of him honestly.” She laughed. “Julie and I are this close to killing him.”
“Julie already tries to though?” You laughed, raising an eyebrow. Flynn stopped then said.
“Then I’ll try then.” She nodded with certainty.
“He really wants me to go, huh?” You smiled up at her. Fond of the thought that he really wanted you around as much as you did him.
“Yeah, so as your friend. I’m saying go tonight, have fun, get drunk, hell kiss Luke already. Do it for our sake please.”
“Our?” You questioned.
“Ow!” You heard Alex groan, now standing to his full height. He looked at Flynn offended, rubbing his head.
“Our.” You nodded understanding.
“Please say you’ll go, I can’t take anymore of Julie and Flynn hitting us.” Alex pleading with you. He leaned closer towards the shelf. “I. Think. I. Have. A. Concussion.” He whispered.
“It’s okay Alex no one will be hitting anyone anymore.” You gave Flynn a pointed look. “I’ll go.”
“YES!” They both cheered.
“Shhh!”
Alex’s eyes widened as he glanced around the library. “Sorry…” He whispered. Then continued to silently cheer.
-
If there was one thing you knew to be certain was that the guys, Julie and Flynn never gave up on you. So when the opportunity to go perform at the Red Barn came up…well let’s just say they were trying everything to get you to go. Which Flynn already did. They, mostly Luke, were hoping you’d go to see them perform, but hopeful enough to get you to sing one of your own songs too.
“What’s she doing now?” Reggie whispered to Alex keeping an eye on you from around the corner. “Like I said five minutes ago, nothing!” Alex sassed. He sighed then said. “She’s writing in her songbook.” The word song made Luke perk up.
“She’s writing a song, no way!” Luke yanked Reggie back and peeked around the wall to see you leaned up against the lockers next to your open one. You were tapping on your book with your pen humming some kind of melody. “You think there’s a chance we’ll still convince her to come tonight?” Luke said keeping his gaze on you.
“Actually she-” Alex began but was cut off by your voice.
“And like I said the last time you guys asked me, no!” You laughed. You turned to the boys, who not so smoothly toppled to the ground. Luke being the first one to jump up and act like they weren’t just talking about you within ear shot. “Seriously?” You raised your brow at him as he approached you, Alex and Reggie following guilty behind him.
“Hey, Y/n you look great, do something with your hair?” Luke leaned an arm on the lockers, his smirk plastered on his lips. He leaned over your shoulder. “Whatcha writing?”
“Your tragic death, I was thinking pickaxe or burned alive?” You pondered.
“Shoot me it’d hurt less than your rejection.” Luke replied cheekily.
“Lucky me then, daddy’s got a shotgun.” You smirked.
“Come on sweetheart, one date with me. Would it really be such a bad thing?” Luke leaned in closer to you. His found interest playing with a strand of your hair.
“Oh my god Luke, it should be my death instead.” You faked being shocked with a smile. “Thanks.” You punched his shoulder playfully.
He shook his head smiling at you. “What can I do to convince you to come out tonight? Everyone’s going.” He bit his lip.
“Mmmm…” You thought about it then gave him a crimson smile.
“No, whatever you’re thinking, no.” Luke straightened up.
“You don’t even know what I was gonna say!”
“Don’t need to, nothing good ever comes from here.” Luke poked the side of your head.
“You literally implied you’d do anything.” You poked his head.
Luke looked away. His head falling with a heavy sigh. “Just tell me already.”
“Where’s the fun in that?” You then looked past his shoulder. “Alex, I need your help with this one.” You smirked at him. He picked up on your look and played along.
-
You placed a hand over your mouth to prevent you from laughing, but to no avail a giggle slipped past your lips. You choked it back when Luke turned his head sharply at you with a death stare.
“S-Sorry. Not funny.” You choked again. “You look um…good.” You giggled.
“Nice legs.” Reggie teased. Luke turned to you.
“I’m gonna kill you.” Luke muttered under his breath.
“Alright here you go, Hannah said we could borrow them, just have to get them back to her before the next game.” Julie walked up to you and Luke, handing him the tinsel-like objects.
“How’d you manage to get her to lend you her pom poms?” Alex asked.
“Tutoring sessions. She owes me.” She replied.
“Alright, Luke, give me an L.” You came out from behind your camera lens.
“I’d rather die.” Luke deadpanned.
“Can’t kill what’s already dead inside.” You smiled. “Come on now like we practiced.” You urged him.
“If this gets outs I swear-” He warned.
“It won’t…” You assured him then leaned over to whisper to Julie. “This is totally going around.”
“Oh yeah.” She laughed along with you.
“Come on now, do it!” You nodded at him.
“I can’t believe I’m doing this…” Luke looked up to the sky then down at his feet.
“G-Give me an L.”
“L.” You all yelled.
“Give me a U.” He said with a fake ass smile.
“U!”
“Give me a K.”
“K!”
“Give an E!” He threw his arm up with the pompom.
“E!” You all looked at each with knowing smiles.
“What does that spell?” He sighed.
“Luke is a dumbass!” You yelled. You snapped the picture seeing Luke’s shocked reaction. “Time to run!” Then you took off running down the track.
“You little sh- Y/N!” Luke yelled, taking after you as fast as the skirt he wore would let him. “Yeah!” Alex laughed. “Wooh!”
“Wooh!” Reggie, Julie, and Flynn cheering and whistling as Luke’s skirt flew up. His boxers on full display. Flynn winced, watching Luke fall then get back up. You were doing a great job dodging him.
“Is Y/N in track?” Flynn asked.
“Nah she’s just used to Luke chasing her.” Julie shrugged it off.
“Makes sense.” She nodded.
The bell then rang catching their attention.
“Come on we have class.” Alex said. They all grabbed their bags.
They stopped and watched Luke fall on his back on the football field. You were still running, but now towards the bleachers where your bag was sitting. You caught up with them, running ahead of them with Luke’s duffle bag in your hand as well.
“Did she just take-” Alex pointed out.
“Go, go!” Julie didn’t even let him finish. She grew scared, ushering everyone forward.
During the last period, Luke walked in now fully dressed in his jeans and white tee. A pissed off look on his face as he flopped into the empty desk next to yours. Your attention was still on the board, yet the smile on your face was clear as day to him.
You bent down to retrieve a pencil then ripped off a sheet of paper from your notebook. Your extended hand caught Luke’s attention. Your focus was still on the math problem written down. You motioned with that hand for him to take it. He sighed and took the items and started writing down the problems on the board.
Luke hardly ever came to class, and usually when he did, he never had anything other than a pencil.
“Thanks.” He whispered,
“Mhmm.” You hummed not even glancing at him.
“So the Red Barn?” He asked again after a few minutes of silence. He wanted to make sure it all worked out.
“I’ve been convinced since free period.” Was all you replied with as you worked the problem out.
“What? How?” You looked over at him.
“Flynn. She made a strong case with supporting reasons and all.” You shrugged.
“You’ve got to kidding me…” He scoffed. “So all that shit I did?”
“Was solemnly for my entertainment.” You smiled up at him.
“Wow!”
“Nice batman boxers by the way.” You chuckled under your breath.
“Shut up.” Luke scowled.
-
Later that night you grew self-conscious as you stepped out of your car and walked up to the actual Red Barn. This being your first time attending one of the band nights they held, you didn’t anticipate the barn really being red. It made you laugh. You finally reached the open barn doors looking at all the people that came to either sing, drink, or dance. You none of the options. Maybe as an observer? You didn’t know. You walked further inside, finding the fairy lights put up a nice touch. Stacks of hay lay against the far walls. Few tables here and there. Some people on the upper level like Flynn said there was. You turned in circles then felt yourself collide with someone. Their arms were sticking out to hold you steady.
“Hey you came!” Luke’s voice filled your ears. You turned and smiled, meeting his eyes.
“Yeah. Look at this place!” You laughed, surprised that you truly were missing out.
“Well, I’m glad you came.” His laughed, nervously looking away from your eyes. His hand slid down interlacing yours with his. You glanced down then smiled gently up at him. Luke then started walking backwards. You reciprocating the stupid smile of his that you loved. “You made it just in time actually. They’re about to start.” Luke led you over to where Flynn and Willie stood on the other side. A beer in Willie’s hand. One in Luke’s too now that you noticed. “Hey guys, look who finally decided to show up!” Luke teased. Letting your hand go to let you hug Flynn, then Willie.
“Hey stranger.” Willie smiled. “Long time no see.”
“Ugh don’t remind me.” You felt bad. It had been a while since you last saw Willie.
“Well, glad to see you nonetheless. You made it just in time, they’re about to start.”
“Yeah, Luke was just mentioning…who’s singing tonight?” You accepted the red solo cup he gave you, and turned your attention to the stage.
“He is.” Luke gestured to the stage, taking a sip of his beer.
“I still got your number and I wonder. What you’re doing tonight. I heard you were hurting but he wasn’t worth it. Well I could’ve told you he wasn’t right…” You gasped, eyes wide as you saw Reggie on stage.
“No way!” You gripped Luke’s arm then continued to look at him sing. His eyes filled with delight as he watched your own lit up from seeing Reg sing.
“Well some buddies of mine. They said you had a big fight in town. You ran off crying. At least that’s what’s going ‘round!” Alex’s drums filing your ears. Julie up there with the two of them. “Know how those rumors fly. Sometimes they’re all a lie.” Reggie sang to the front row of girls. “Burn up before they hit the ground. But right now they’re goin 'round. I don’t wanna move in too soon.” You bobbed your head, raising your hand in the air as you watched your friends take the stage. “I know your heartbreak is brand new. If I never would’ve let you down. This probably wouldn’t be going 'round.”
“Why aren’t you up there with them?” You turned to Luke. His eyes met yours causing a smile to break out on both your faces.
“Cause you aren’t.” He shrugged. Your eyes lingered on his face a little longer than usual. You didn’t ask him about it though, and turned back to watch your friends perform.
“Round and round and round and round and round and round and round and round.” Julie sang out.
“Probably wouldn’t be going 'round.” Reggie then stepped back from the mic, letting Alex take over.
“It might’ve been time. And it might’ve been my bad. But I wanna try again. Another dance. A second chance. If you are in I’d be in.” Alex sang as he hit his drums to the beat.
“Well some buddies of mine. They said you had a big fight in town. You ran off crying. At least that’s what’s going 'round.” Reggie then sang the chorus again. You couldn’t contain your excitement any longer, so you dragged Luke to the dance floor and planted yourself in the front row of the stage. Reggie catching sight of you two.
“Know how those rumors fly. Sometimes they’re all a lie. Burn up before they hit the ground. But right now they’re going 'round.” Reggie knelt down playing his guitar in front of you and Luke. You sang the words with Reggie, having learned them in the short time you did. “I don’t wanna move in too soon. I know your heartbreak is brand new. If I never would’ve let you down. This probably wouldn’t be going 'round.”
You felt a hand wrap around your waist and pulled you back into them. Luke’s front against your back, swaying you both to the rhythm of the song. Luke’s beer in his left, and your red solo cup in your right. Your free hand curling up into his hair, and his holding you tightly against him.
“Probably wouldn’t be going 'round!” You belted out in the air. Luke’s heart fluttered upon hearing your voice. You could feel him smile against your exposed neck.
Julie’s voice mixed well with Reggie’s. The duo you didn’t think would sound so well together, and yet here you thought it was Luke and Julie. But you had to disagree, it was actually Julie and Reggie singing together that was something special. They turned to each other sharing a mic. Reggie smiling down at Julie encouraging her on. “Well some buddies of mine. They said you had a big fight in town. You ran off crying. At least that’s what’s going 'round. Know how those rumors fly. Sometimes they’re all a lie. Burn up before they hit the ground. But right now they’re going 'round. I don’t wanna move in too soon. I know your heartbreak is brand new. If I never would’ve let you down. This probably wouldn’t be going 'round…Probably wouldn’t be going 'round…” Luke let you go as the crowd cheered and applauded them.
You turned around telling him how great they were. He agreed as he guided you back to where Flynn and Willie were.
“Oh my god.” You gestured to Reggie, Alex and Julie as they came over to take a break. Another band was going up now to keep the party going. “You guys…I seriously have no words. Luke finally let you do a country song, huh Reg?” You hit his shoulder playfully.
“He actually helped write it…” He outed his best friend. Luke closed his eyes sighing.
“Really? We agreed not to tell people!” Luke let his arms fall to his side.
“Oh, did he now.” You laughed. “What was it that you said? I’m never doing a country song they’re not my thing?” You teased him.
“He won’t admit it but this genre is starting to grow on him.” Julie added. “But enough about us…you came!” She reached forward bringing you into a hug.
“Thanks to Flynn of course.” Julie directed the credit where it needed to be.
“I could not take another night where she sat in her room and read books.” Flynn shook her head. The group’s faces scrunched up at the embarrassing information Flynn said. “Not in this group, nope. We have fun and go out. Speaking of drinks I need another.” You all laughed as she turned and left.
“Hopefully now Luke will stop bugging us. You finally showed up to one of these. Now, all he needs to do is see you on stage and he’ll die happy.” Julie eyed him. Luke frowned rubbing the back of his nervously.
“I- uh” He stammered.
“What?” You chuckled nervously. Their laughs all died down.
“Luke has something to tell you, Y/n. Luke, you care to elaborate what you did?” Julie gave him a tight lipped smile. It had to come out one way or another.
“Julie-” He warned her, shaking his head. He wasn’t ready yet.
“I don’t like keeping things from her, you know this. Just tell her what you did, you promised!” You looked between the boys and Julie. Flynn came back with another drink and then stepped back slowly with Willie, not wanting to be evolved, even though she was always about any
drama she could get her hands on. You looked back to Luke who stared at his vans full of what looked like guilt. Any fun you were having now was flushed away with anxiety and nerves.
“Luke?” You tilted your head to try and catch his gaze. He finally looked up and took a big swig of his beer. He walked past you and went to retrieve his backpack that lay next to his guitar case. You scoffed once you saw him pull out your songbook.
“My book. You have my book…” You stated firmly. “Why do you have my song book, Luke?”
“Because I wanted to see the song you were working on.” Well at least he didn’t try and sugar coat it. He took a step forward, yet you took a step back. His heart shattering as you moved away from him. “Y/N I-”
“You read my song. A song that was personal to me, Luke. It wasn’t ready. I-I didn’t want anyone, let alone you, seeing it.” Your anxiety began to grow. You had written it about you and Luke’s relationship, or the special thing that just worked between the two of you…and he just read it.
“I finished it.” You stopped and looked at him confused. “You were missing the bridge, Julie worked on it with me. So it wasn’t all me.” He gave Julie an annoyed look for trying to throw him under the bus. “Look, all I ask of you is to go up there and sing it with me.”
“It wasn’t a duet…” You muttered softly.
“It will be once you sing it with me.” He smiled big, noticing your mood start to shift. “You take care of the rest and leave the bridge to me.” He reassured you.
“Why the bridge?” You grew curious.
“Julie!” He panicked and called to her for help.
“Okay, enough questions, get your butt on stage.” She grabbed your hands and tugged you behind her. You threw a glance at Luke who gave you another smile. Then you were out of his sight.
He went to his case and pulled out his acoustic.
“You know what you’re doing?” Alex asked behind him. He was leaning into Willie’s side, wanting to catch a moment with his boyfriend.
“Y-Yeah.” Luke pulled the strap over him and adjusted the guitar. He quickly made sure it was tuned correctly, giving it a strum, letting him know the strings sounded good.
“You got this man.” Reggie patted his back. “You got her here, now you just gotta tell her.”
“Well, actually Flynn was the one who convinced her.” Luke furrowed his brows.
“Yeah but Flynn doesn’t have feelings for her.” Alex teased him. “Come on, we got your back.”
“Like always.” Reggie finished.
“Okay.” Luke shook out his nerves and made his way to the stage. “I-I can do this.” -
“Julie, I don’t think I can do this…” You frowned.
“Hey you got this okay. I’ll be right up front with Flynn and Willie, plus you got the boys up there with you. We got you.” She placed her hands on your shoulders, her words bringing you a certain amount of comfort.
“O-Okay.” You nodded, and recollected yourself. Then you gulped the second you stepped onto the stage. So many faces staring at you, you felt like fainting.
“Alright folks next up we got a performance by…what’s your name darlin’?”
“Uh…Y/n Y/L/N.” You smiled nervously at the guy.
“Give it up for Y/n everybody.” The crowd cheered and clapped.
He walked off as the boys arrived on stage. Alex took his place behind his drum set, and Reggie sat on a stool to your right, and Luke, Luke stood off to your left, standing in front of the mic next to yours. You were scared, nervous mostly. You hadn’t even figured out a melody for the song, and yet Luke saved you the trouble. You just had to sing the words.
You looked over at him, worry featured all over your eyes. Luke only continued to smile and mouthed, ‘You got this’. That’s all it took to feel better.
Luke swung his guitar around and began strumming. Your ears picked out an E minor, C add nine, G, and D chord pattern, along with Alex’s drums filling out for the big moment that just hit nicely. And Reggie, with a steel guitar using a slide playing technique, which was something you didn’t know you wanted to see. Country instruments were his specialty. You just never had the pleasure of actually seeing him play any.
You nodded along to the rhythm and fell into the beat, falling into the first verse.
“They don’t cancel other plans. Have conversations with nothin’ but their eyes. They don’t hear each other’s names and forget to concentrate. Hits a nerve and lights you up like dynamite.” You had your eyes closed as you sang the first lines.
You opened them back up and looked over to Luke as the chorus came. “Friends don’t call you in the middle of the night. Couldn’t even tell you why. They just felt like saying, Hi. Friends don’t stand around, playing with their keys. Finding reasons not to leave. Tryna hide the chemistry.” You let your eyes linger onto his. “Drive a little too slow.”
“Slow.” Luke sang into the mic.
“Take the long way home.”
“Home.” Luke backed you up.
“Get a little too close.”
“Close.” He threw you a smile.
“We do but, but friends don’t.” You shook your head no at the lyrics. You closed your eyes again, taking a big inhale of air, knowing which lyrics were coming up next.. You felt the need to turn your head to Luke as you sang the second verse.
“They don’t almost say, I love you. When they’re downtown somewhere, just a little drunk.” You smiled as you shared a moment together. The crowd ate it up as they watched you two. Alex and Reggie looked at each other knowingly. Julie, Flynn, and Willie, felt the need to capture this on their phones. It was too good not to have it recorded. “They don’t talk about the future and put each other in it and get chills with every accidental touch…” You trailed the words. Your smile only grew, hearing Alex hit his drums for the chorus again. The crowding bobbing their heads and jumping up and down.
“Friends don’t call you in the middle of the night. Couldn’t even tell you why. They just felt like saying, Hi.” You turned to the crowd and waved.  A big grin plastered on your face as you sang. “Friends don’t stand around, playing with their keys. Finding reasons not to leave. Tryna hide the chemistry.” You sang your heart out, pouring your heart out to emphasize the words a little more. “Drive a little too slow.”
“Slow.” Luke sang again. He stepped away from his mic and slowly making his way over to you.
“Take the long way home.”
“Home.” Luke mouthed.
“Get a little too close.” You motioned him closer.
“Close.” He now stood in front of you. You put the mic in between you to share it.
“We do but, but friends don’t.” Luke shook his head no as well. He looked down at his hands changing chords, then you let him take over the bridge.
“I keep telling myself this might be nothing.”
“This might be nothing…” You stared into his eyes echoing back the words to him.
“But one look in your eyes and, God, there’s something.” He nodded at you.
“There’s something.” You nodded.
“You can lie to me and say you don’t.” Luke shook his head. Then nodded yes. “But I know you do…and I love you too!” His words grew quieter towards the end. You breath hitched, you were stunned. Staring at him with widened eyes. Luke swallowed back the nerves he was feeling. Then felt relieved when your smile only grew bigger. You reached your hand up and pressed your foreheads together. Then belted out the chorus one last time.
“Friends don’t call you in the middle of the night. Couldn’t even tell you why. They just felt like saying, Hi. Friends don’t stand around, playing with their keys. Finding reasons not to leave. Tryna hide the chemistry!” Luke pecked your head as you started lifting your head to look at him.
“Drive a little too slow.” You sang.
“Slow.” He echoed you.
“Take the long way home.”
“Home.”
“Get a little too close.”
“Close.”
“We do but, but friends don’t…”
“Friends don’t…” Luke sang out, letting his guitar trail the last note out.
You were pulled out of your daze, turning the crowd with the happiest expression you had. Alex and Reggie stood and bowed. You grabbed Luke’s hand and did the same. You were filled with the utmost joy. The two of you never really did know how to say those three words, but you did in the form of a song. The best way you two know how to communicate.
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, the unimaginable happened. He pulled you in by the waist, not wasting anymore time and kissed you. The cheers and whistles only added to the effect, but it was your lips pressed against his that felt like fireworks.
Yeah...friends definitely don’t do that.

Ello! Sorry to bother but are you planning on doing a part 2 of The Ex Friend Luke Patterson x reader? The story plot is so good and feels good to continue
Luke Patterson isn’t used to any part of life as a ghost, let alone trying to figure out the drama between Julie and Carrie’s friends. However, he has a feeling that there’s more to Y/N L/N, Julie’s old friend, than meets the eye.
hi! omg i was JUST thinking about luke patterson, your timing is excellent
part one / masterlist / part three
Tumblr media
Luke has never been more excited to go to a gig in his life. He’s been to his fair share of them, too- as a band just starting out, Sunset Curve attended high school band contests and jazz club open shows, watched guys performing in subway stations and stared at taped recordings of classic tours. Anything to learn something that might help them get ahead.
This time, though, Luke isn’t turning up to the jazz club down the street to help him get through yet another impossibly closed door, but to learn more about a girl he met a few days ago, Y/N L/N. A girl that, by some twist of fate, can see him even though he’s a ghost.
Luke doesn’t even know what to think. He’s excited, sure, and he’s talked over the whole thing with Reggie, Alex, and literally anyone within hearing distance just to get his thoughts in order. Is this a musician thing? A ghost thing? Could Y/N be interested in Luke for Luke, or because he’s her link to making things better with Julie?
Needless to say, he’s been stuck in his head for a while now. Luke’s mind feels like one key pressed down on the old electric keyboard that’s probably still tucked away in the back of the studio somewhere, playing the same whole note over and over again. His thoughts are looped around her name, never seeming to deviate for longer than a second.
It’s time to go now. Even though Luke can technically poof into the center of the club without a second thought, he takes the time to walk in through the doors and mingle with the crowd, almost as if he’s a normal person. If Luke is going to let himself pretend that he’s just a boy stuck tripping over a girl a ways out of his league, he can pretend he’s not a ghost, too. Anything to make this feel right.
Luke looks up at the stage area expectantly. A microphone stands by itself, and a faint light is directed towards it as if everything in this room, people and equipment alike, hover in place just waiting for Y/N to begin.
A matter of minutes later, she does. Y/N steps out amidst a wave of applause, and even though the club is packed full of people, her eyes seem to find Luke almost instantly. When she smiles, her entire face lights up and he is hooked on the sight.
Then she’s moving towards the microphone, and when their gazes are no longer locked Luke finds he can breathe a little easier, like his heart has finally been coaxed out of his throat. Y/N grabs a guitar from a stand, and after addressing the crowd, begins to sing.
If Luke thought he was lost on her before, he’s practically done for now. Luke has long argued that music is one of the best kinds of art, that even if he’s not a master painter or has his work hung up in a museum, he can still make people feel things.
Y/N is the best example of this that he’s ever seen. It’s not just the fact that her voice is superb (which it is) or that her guitar seems to sing with the voice of the angels (which it does), the thing that captivates Luke most of all is the words.
Luke can tell immediately that she’s singing from the heart, which is so hard to do in front of a crowd of strangers that he finds himself leaning forward as if drawn to her confidence alone. This is a girl who has held loss and love in the palm of her hand, cared for both, and watched them leave her equally in tatters. This is a girl that Luke could love, and he realizes that he might just manage it.
Luke has no idea how long Y/N’s gig lasts. It could have been ten minutes, it could have been ten hours. All he knows is standing there, listening to her sing. This is why he wants to dedicate his life to music, he thinks, so he can live in a moment like this forever.
He finds her afterward, stepping outside the back door of the club to get a breath of fresh air. At first, Luke rushes towards her, head still spinning with everything he wants to say, but they clog up in his throat and he finds he can’t manage a single word. It wouldn’t be as good as what he just saw, anyway, nothing could be as light or as pure.
Instead, he opens and closes his mouth before trying again. “You were really good out there.”
Yeah, not quite on the same level as those lyrics. Well, he tried.
To his credit, Y/N smiles anyway. “Thanks for coming. I was glad to see you.”
“I was glad to be here. I mean, I knew you could sing, but wow.”
Y/N raises an eyebrow. “Wow?”
Luke rolls his eyes. “You know what I mean.”
Y/N grins again. “Maybe I like seeing you try and defend yourself.”
Luke signs theatrically. “Maybe I like being seen in general. How is it that the only other live person who can actually see me just uses their ability to make fun of me?”
Y/N laughs. “I’m not the only one. Julie can see you, can’t she?”
There’s a faint unhappiness in her eyes when she says Julie’s name, one that leaves Luke stumbling. “You really don’t see Julie that often, huh?”
Y/N sighs. “I wish I could. She’s a good person, and I miss hearing her play. I’m glad that you’ve been able to convince her to take up music again.”
Luke nods slowly. “We’ve got another show coming up soon, you know. Maybe you could come visit me this time.”
Y/N’s smile is electrifying. “I’d love to come. I’ll see you soon, then.”
Someone from the jazz club calls Y/N to come help pack up the show, and after a few final goodbyes, she disappears back into the club. Luke is left watching her go, wondering how long he’s going to be stuck on her and why he doesn’t seem to mind it, not at all.
He especially doesn’t mind it when Y/N shows up to their next show. Even though she was able to talk to Julie for a while, the second she saw Luke after their performance her eyes lit up and she hurried over to him to talk about how much she enjoyed their show. It makes him feel good to think that she might have been watching him perform with the same level of thrill that Luke has with her.
Thus starts a chain of trade-offs, of switching out shows and audiences and always meeting up to talk afterwards. Luke grows used to searching for Y/N in the crowds, and racing backstage after her performances to talk for as long as he can before people start wondering why Y/N seems as if she’s talking to an empty room.
It’s good, honestly, probably better than he deserves. This is his second shot, after all, but instead of focusing on how to find out his unfinished business Luke really just wants to spend more time with Y/N, messing around to write new songs and talking about everything that has ever crossed their minds.
Once, he asked how it was possible that she could see him, why the only other person able to see ghosts is Julie, who only found out about them after her mother died. Although Y/N and Luke have never had trouble sharing secrets, Y/N grows oddly silent at this, and quickly changes the subject. Luke doesn’t bring it up again, but he can’t help but wonder what she’s keeping to herself.
It’s not like he doesn’t trust her. In the time he’s gotten to know Y/N, Luke can easily say that she’s a good person. Sometimes secrets are meant to be kept to yourself, especially if they’re of hurtful memories, and that’s alright. Luke is just happy to have her around.
They’re sitting on the roof one day when Luke realizes that he knows this for certain. They finished one of Julie and the Phantoms’ performances about half an hour ago, but Luke and Y/N are still up here, talking. Some guy left a ladder up to the jazz club roof leaning against a wall and, well, the views were too good to let an opportunity like that pass them by.
Sitting up here, the moonlight making rivers of light bend and flow around the two of them, Luke doesn’t think he ever wants to leave this moment.
The words come out of his mouth before he can pull them back. “I really like you, you know.”
Y/N smiles, by now used to his random exclamations. “I really like you too.”
Luke sighs, shakes his head. “No, not like that. As more than a friend. I like you so much that sometimes I don’t even know what to do with myself.”
Y/N’s eyes are bright now, not for moonlight but the happiness stirring behind them. “I thought you were never going to say it. Took you long enough.”
Luke gapes at her. “You’re not- you-”
Y/N rolls her eyes, but the gesture doesn’t feel sarcastic. “Yeah, I like you too. Don’t overthink it.”
Luke grins. “Don’t overthink it? I’m going to overthink it even harder now.”
He screws up his face like he’s having a migraine, and Y/N leans back, laughing. The strange thing is that she reaches over by habit, and when her hand connects with his, he feels it. He feels it even though he’s a ghost and she’s not, and Luke doesn’t know how Y/N manages to keep surprising him but he’s not sure that he minds it like this.
The sight still exists before him, proving that it’s not a dream: their hands, gently touching. Luke stares at Y/N in shock. “How is that possible? Have you always been able to do that?”
Y/N shakes her head slowly. “I knew I could see ghosts, but I didn’t know about that. I never got the chance to check.”
She hesitates a moment longer before continuing. “I never told you about how I could see ghosts because it isn’t the greatest memory. Someone from my family died, but they left behind a ton of trouble for the rest of us. Part of their unfinished business was getting the rest of us to forgive them. I could see them to help out with that, but I never checked on the touch thing because I never really wanted to see if it would work. I was furious with them.”
Y/N looks away, and at last Luke gets it. No wonder she didn’t want to talk about her past- it obviously hurt her.
He still can’t bear to see the pained look on her face, though, so he squeezes her hand, just to prove that he can. “All the same, I’m glad it works.”
A quiet smile returns to Y/N’s face. “So am I. It means I get to do this.”
Before Luke can ask what she’s talking about, Y/N leans over and kisses him. He kisses her back almost immediately, of course, but when they finally break away the first thing he says is:
“I meant to do that first.”
Y/N laughs. “Maybe you should have done it, then. Don’t blame me for hurrying things along.”
Luke spreads his hands. “I was trying, but I didn’t realize that I could actually touch you until about five seconds ago.”
Y/N’s laughing at him, but Luke manages to put a stop to it by kissing her again. He thinks that he might be content to stay here forever, on the rooftop with the moonlight weaving them both together. In fact, he intends on remaining here at least a little longer, just because he can.

Someone To You
Pairing: Alive! Luke Patterson x Fem Reader
Summary: Y/N and Luke have been friends for most of their lives and have already spent some time in love, but not knowing how to jump from friends to lovers, they have been stranded in that rare transition for much longer than they should, something that does not go unnoticed neither for them nor for the members of the rock band.
A lot of Luke and Y/N fluff, and a lot of friendship between Y/N and the Sunset Curve boys💖 (oh and my usual nonsense)
Word count: +3k
Songs used: Kiss me by Ed Sheeran and Follow You by Echosmith
Tumblr media
Two in the morning and Y/N has been lying on her bed for twenty minutes trying to go back to sleep without any success. She is about to give up and go to get her journal when an unmistakable knock on the window echoes through the room.
She gets up and turns on the lamp before going to open the lock, her best friend entering the room seconds later and closing the window again before turning to her. The second they are face to face, Y/N lunges at him, entwining her legs tightly across his waist, her face buried completely in his neck, letting the familiarity of his body and scent wash over her.
“Oh god, I missed you.” He whispers in a husky voice, putting his hands on her hips and carefully kicking off his vans with his feet, then moving to her bed, dropping her gently on her usual side.
That's when he can see the girl's face with attention, her features slightly illuminated by the night lamp and making clear that she had been awake before he arrived.
“Difficult night eh?” He asks just before pushing his body forward to jump to the other side of the bed, and she lets out a sweet wholehearted laugh when he stumbles at the last second and ends up falling on his belly on her hips. “This was supposed to be way cooler and smoother.”
“I know Lu, maybe try to just walk next time?”
“Y/N, darlin’. Rockstars don’t just walk, we have to do everything with style.” He gets up and lightly kisses her on the cheek before stepping carefully around her to lie down on his side.
“My mistake, Lucas.” She teases with a smirk and he frowns before playfully sticking his tongue out at her. “Now, what happened? Whenever you appear at the window out of nowhere, it’s because you feel overwhelmed."
He analyzes what she said silently. All the times that he has entered through that window passing through his head, as well as all the hugs and cuddles received. All the years, and feelings and memories making him feel blessed to love her. "I guess you are right, you are my safe place." Y/N's face lights up, and she confidently moves closer to give him a soft kiss on the nose. “And you are mine. Now, spill, handsome.”
He smiles at the compliment, and makes an exaggerated wink that makes her snort. “My mom made me leave the house almost impossible, I was minutes away to miss the gig. I don't understand why it's so hard for her to understand that this is what I was born to do. If I want to be someone in this life, I have to continue on this path, no matter what. I don't want to die and just vanish, I want to leave a mark. We all want our lives to be great and to be remembered." Luke drops his head against the pillow and covers his eyes with his hands, letting his annoyance out.
“I get you, and you know I will always support you.”
“But…”
“But I just want you to know this. You are someone, Luke. To me, to Reggie, Alex, Bobby, and no matter how much you guys argue, you are someone to your parents. You don't need to connect with everyone to make an impact, just with the people who matter to you.”
He moves his hands behind his head and stares in silence at the ceiling for a few seconds, and then turns to see her with the most charming smile in his repertoire. “Will you come to the Orpheum after we nail the audition?” Anyone would be disconcerted by his attitude, but for Y/N it is a typical Luke Patterson defense mechanism. Whenever he feels like the conversation is getting too heavy or when he just doesn't want to respond, he drastically changes the subject with his best smile to try and distract her.
“Of course I will, It’ll be one of the most important days of your life, I would never miss it. And I would not change you singing in my ear for anything, but there is something so special when you are on stage, it is like being in front of the microphone sets your soul on fire.” She replies with a delighted smile.
"I totally get what you mean. So, you like me to sing you to sleep, huh? C’mere beautiful." He requests before trapping her against him, his calloused fingers quickly finding her hair, stroking it gently as he sings in her ear.
“Settle down with me, cover me up, cuddle me in. Lie down with me, and hold me in your arms” He stops for a second to meet her eyes again and give her a light kiss on the forehead, before confidently singing the chorus. “Kiss me like you wanna be loved, you wanna be loved, you wanna be loved. This feels like falling in love, falling in love, falling in love.”
Y/N smiles against his neck before finally falling asleep, the peace Luke always gives her completely invading her and melting her in his arms.
Tumblr media
In the morning Y/N snaps her eyes open when she raises her arm to wrap her best friend’s waist and finds the space empty. She sits down and finds a note on her nightstand, Luke's unmistakable handwriting peeking out due to a poorly folded sheet.
“Good morning darlin’, sorry for leaving without saying goodbye, I had to go to the last rehearsal before the auditions. After that we will pick you up to go celebrate <3
PS: you look so hot while you drool my shoulder and the pillows."
-Luke
The girl can't help but blush, and furiously examines the pillow to see if she actually did it, only to find another little note below it.
“Gotcha.” She rolls her eyes and a little laugh escapes her lips.
Today is a ridiculously important day in the lives of the boys, if they manage to be among the 10 chosen for the second part of the contest, they will compete in the legendary Orpheum for the opportunity to land a record deal.
The four of them have been working like crazy even though the situation with their families has been getting worse in recent weeks, none of them have even thought about giving up. Without much to do during her day off, Y/N allows herself to remember the feeling of being in Luke's arms, the conversation she had with Alex and Bobby just a few days before in the back of her head.
“Why are we doing this again?” Alex asks clearly annoyed while Bobby and Y/N laugh, turning to see Luke and Reggie jamming some songs across the sidewalk, in front of one of the hottest clubs in LA.
“Something about making the band better known before auditions.” she reports, as she closes the buttons on Luke's bleached jean jacket she's wearing.
“I understand that, but couldn’t he wait til tomorrow? We practiced all day, I’m tired as fuck.” The blond replies, getting irritated from exhaustion.
Bobby yawns, his eyes getting heavier as he rests his head in Y/N’s shoulder. “Muffin, I swear, your man has infinite energy.”
“He is not my man, Bobs.” She answers as she rests her head on his, ruffling his hair gently.
"Well maybe you should let him know, because he refers to you as his girl all the time." Bobby informs her, raising his head to see her reaction.
“He does?” Even in the dark both boys can see how red her cheeks are, and how the smile on her face grows with each passing second. Bobby decides to take a chance and keep teasing her.
“My girl is so insanely talented, that’s my sweet girl, my girl said this and I thought it was so freaking awesome because I’m hopelessly in love with her.”
“Man, that was so accurate. 10/10.” Alex replies while laughing, they lean in to highfive above her head, and she can't help but blush even more at her friend's words.
“You guys are the worst.” She wrinkled her nose and they both turned to see each other, agreeing silently that now is the moment to ask one of the questions they had wanted to ask her for months.
“Since we met you are in this strange relationship, in which you are both aware that you are in love with each other, but neither of you does anything. What are you waiting for?" Bobby asks, indicating Alex to support him with his eyes.
“Yeah bro after 3 years, it gets kind of old.” He adds, trying to sound cool.
“I guess, we just think it is not the right time. Since you started the band he has worked tirelessly on his career as a musician and that is what I want him to focus on. We both know what is in our hearts and for now that is more than enough.” She blurts out, trying to get her thoughts in order.
“That was so cheesy I want to die.” Alex answers in reflex, and his eyes go wide when he realizes what he said.
“Oh my God, Alex. Go away! I will never open my soul to you again.”
The girl blushes again, a small smile at the corner of her lips as she remembers how after that her friends continued to tease her with Luke and called her Mrs Patterson for the rest of the night, both she and Luke totally embarrassed when they continued to tease them in the truck on the way home. She decides to get out her notebook and try to write a song, which she hadn't done since Luke formed Sunset Curve, and by the time she finished she had just some minutes before the boys arrived.
She managed to get ready in time, but what she found when she opened the door was not what she expected. The face that greeted her was Reggie's and not Luke's as always, and the sad little smile on the bassist's face wasn't normal either.
She instantly hugs him, making soft circles with her fingertips on his iconic leather jacket.
“Don’t worry about me, sunshine, I’m fine. But he needs you.” He takes her hand and walks toward Bobby's old truck, and Y/N is even more confused when she meets his beaming smile as they climb into the back of the vehicle. Alex is smiling too, but he looks clearly anxious, and Luke is nowhere to be found.
"Can someone explain to me what happened? Where is Luke?"
“We did it, muffin!” He embraces her excitedly, his clear happiness reassuring the stressed girl.
“Congrats guys! I’m so proud of you!” He released her and she hugs Reggie with her left arm and with her free one takes Alex's hand, who takes it in his and fondly kisses her knuckles.
“Thank you Y/N, but going back to Luke, we need your help. Things didn't go as smoothly as we expected and how to put it nicely… he lost it.” The blond informs her while anxiously playing with his necklace.
“You are the one who always shows him the way.” Reggie says with a bigger smile this time.
“Okay, start the truck Bobs, my man needs me.” Alex snorts a laugh and Bobby fulfills her request after smiling teasingly at her.
“You told Bobby he wasn’t your man.” Alex remarked with a smirk, turning his head toward the back seat to look into her eyes.
“And you told the boy at the club that you didn't know Reggie so you wouldn't have to give him his number. What's your point?” She answered swiftly with a mirrored smirk.
The drummer tries to counter attack but fails miserably, instead whispers a “...Well played.” and looks back to the front of the road.
“Was he cute?” Reg asks with genuine curiosity, and they all debate whether the boy was Reggie’s type or not on the way to where Luke is.
Tumblr media
The boys leave her in the big park where the girl already imagined her best friend was, and she walks directly to the place where they sat millions of times throughout her childhood and adolescence, in their little corner of paradise. It doesn't take her long to find a disgruntled Luke sitting against their tree with his guitar three feet away, lying on the grass.
“You look so hot when you are frustrated.” Luke looks up and calms down when he meets her eyes. “I think you are the one who needs a song to relax now.” She adds, pointing out at the guitar. He nods and she picks it up, sitting between Luke's legs, her back leaning against his chest.
She blushes as she begins to play the song she finished composing just an hour ago, grateful that he can't see her face because of the position they are in. “I thank God for you all the time. Someone who knows my faults, but loves me despite them all. And you, I'll follow you just like that. Doesn't matter how far, If I have you, I have it all.”
She feels him kissing her hair, his heart beating just as fast as her own. “I think I found my soulmate, yes I do. I think I found the one who knows me. I don't wanna think about what it'd be like without you. Anywhere, I’ll follow you anywhere.”
When the song ends she freezes for a few seconds and Luke takes the opportunity to take the guitar and move it to the side, so that he can hug her closer to him, his arms around her waist while his chin rests on her shoulder.
“Your voice always shows me the way home.” Luke whispers sweetly in her ear, and Y/N instantly remembers Reggie said something similar in the truck, which means Luke had probably already expressed that thought to his friends, causing her to melt in his arms. She guesses it’s her turn to apply the famous Luke Patterson defense mechanism.
“What happened? I know you guys did pass, Bobby was so happy he wanted to cry.”
“We passed literally with the last ticket. They said they couldn’t see Sunset Curve, just another wannabe garage band, definitely not material for the big leagues.”
“Wow, that’s rough. And how did you react?”
"Reggie and Bobby held me by the arms and Alex by the back to stop me from going berserker." She smiles softly, imagining the scene clearly, and stretches her neck to see the guitarist's face.
“Lu, what else is bothering you?” He looks deep in thought, like he's forming multiple ideas in his head.
“I don't approve of everything they said, but I think maybe they have a point. I spent so much time trying to get the band to be material for a discography that I neglected our essence."
“Okay, then what’s the next move?”
“I have an idea, but I can’t do it without you.” He admits, staring deeply at her with his beautiful hazel eyes.
“Good thing you don’t have to. Luke, remember when we first met?” She asks, trying to distract him from his problems at least for today.
“Yeah, we were six. I told you I wanted to be a rockstar, and you said Lucas wasn’t a rockstar name, that I had to change it immediately.” He recalls with a soft smile.
“After that day you got angry every time someone dared to call you by your name.” She remembers the scene with a laugh.
“You have to admit, little Y/N was wise, you wouldn't have a band if you were still a Lucas.” He chuckles, caressing her hair lovingly., and she leans at the touch.”
“From that day I knew that I always wanted to be by your side. All my life I have tried to be someone, someone for my parents, for my friends, for the public, but I have never had to try with you.
I've always been someone for you... and that's more than enough. You've always known who I am, even when I'm not sure myself. You have always been patient and have loved me unconditionally, and I want you to know that you can always expect the same from me. god, I know since I was a kid I would do anything for you. I need you, I’m tired to wait for the correct moment, because every moment with you feels right.”
“Lu… is this a love confession?”
“I- yeah. But it’s so hard, I feel so many emotions right now and I really want to kiss the hell out of yo-” Y/N pulls him towards her connecting their lips hungrily, both melting into each other's mouths. He bites her lower lip slightly and separates a few seconds to admire her face, her eyes shining with love and lust.
“Darlin’, you can admit now your thing for rockstars. That’s exactly how you see me when I’m on stage.”
“I’ll admit it as soon as you admit you pretended to drown in the pool last year so I could give you mouth-to-mouth.”
“I would never do something like that… again.” They both laugh adoringly and Luke kisses her hard, determined to make up for all the lost time.
“Hey lovebirds, it’s time to go, Alex is minutes ago to snap at Reg and I don't want to end in the middle again, Reggie bit me last time.” They part abruptly, looking up at Bobby with daggers in their eyes.
“You can’t be all annoying all the time about our relationship and then ruin a moment like that.” she says clearly frustrated.
“Wow, eager much, muffin? someone is already whipped huh?” He jokes, causing Luke to put his finger in his mouth and then in his friend's ear.
“Bobby If you don’t shut up I swear-” She starts to fight, but he interrupts her.
“Are you guys dating now?” They both turn to see each other and smile, Luke wipes his hand on Bobby's shirt as they start to walk to the truck and entwine it with Y/N’s.
“Yeah, yes we are.” He declares with a majestic smile.
“Dammit I lost the bet to Alex. He said this was finally the year and I bet on another five.”
“Five? Really?” The girl asks, unable to believe what she hears.
“What? You have been in this strange relationship for about 12 years, five more years would be easy peasy. Reggie bet that you would make your lives with someone else and meet in 20 years to realize that it was always you." He informs them as they reach the vehicle, she looks in shock for a moment but then recovers and feings anger.
“Yeah, that’s it we are walking.” She decides, pulling Luke onto the sidewalk.
“You're just looking for an excuse to make out with your new boyfriend, you never get mad at us, not even the time Reggie stuck gum in your hair.” Bobby calls her out, and Reggie rolls the window down to emphasize that it was an accident.
“Okay yeah, I want to make out with my boyfriend and stick my tongue down his throat because as you mentioned, I've been waiting for many years to be able do it. So get lost or admire the show.” Reggie quickly closes the window again, and Bobby makes a disgusted face before almost running to the driver's seat.
“I’m so in love with you.” He admits with loving eyes, and she stands on tiptoe to fill him with light kisses on the forehead, nose, cheeks and lips. “I’m so in love with you, Lu.”
“Hey darlin’, I know you said the tongue in the throat thing to scare them away but…” He tries to explain himself, but she stops him knowing exactly what he wants to say.
“Oh, don’t worry. I’m kissing the hell out of you as soon as we get home.” She reassures, caressing his hand.
He lets out a big sigh of relief. “Good.” A big smile on his face while pressing her hand a little harder to make sure this is actually happening.

MASTERLIST || PROMPTS LIST
You didn’t realize it at first. When you threw your arms around Luke’s neck, you expected to go right through him like you did when you tried to grab his hand a few days ago.
“This is an interesting little relationship you and I have”, is what he said after that encounter. The interesting little relationship just got ten times more interesting since you can physically touch him now.
Luke slowly pulls back from the hug you just shared in the garage together. He holds your face in his hands and you melt into his touch. Your hands are on his cheeks. Your face mere inches from Luke’s. You can see the tears in his eyes from when he was crying a few minutes ago.
His eyes scan your entire face as you ask, “What does this mean?”
“I don’t know,” Luke stammers. Neither of you know how you can touch each other now.
You look at Reggie and Alex, hoping a hug will help them feel stronger. “Alex, Reggie,” you call. “Come here.”
The bassist and drummer come over. A group hug ensues between the four of you. When you all pull back, Reggie says, “I don’t feel as weak anymore.”
Alex says, “Neither do I, even though I was never really weak.”
Then the three ghosts hiss in pain before you watch as Caleb’s stamp leaves their arms. The stamp disappears and you look between the three boys in front of you. You smile and sniffle, glad you didn’t lose the three people who meant the most to you. Well, the three ghosts who meant the most to you.
Luke stands across from you and smiles. “I guess you’re stuck with us now, L/N.”
“I’m okay with that,” you tell the guitarist.
***
The following morning, you pace around the garage. You rub your hands together and sigh.
Luke poofs into the room and asks, “Y/N, what’s wrong? You look stressed out.”
You look up at Luke and say, “First you appear and I’m the only person that can see you. Then we find out other people can see you when you play with Julie. Now I can touch you after hugging you? Luke, I don’t understand.”
“I don’t either,” Luke says to you. “I really don’t understand. I wish I did so I could have answers for you but I truly don’t understand either.”
Before you can chicken out, you ask, “What does this mean for us?”
He tilts his head and looks at you, confused. “Us?” he asks. “We’re friends, Y/N. I don’t know what you’re trying to say.”
You stare at the musician and ask, “All the flirting? The trying to hold hands? Was that all because you wanted to be friends, Luke?”
Luke finally catches on and says, “Well, no. I couldn’t touch you, Y/N. I didn’t want to say anything because you’re human and I’m a ghost. Of course, I want to be more than just friends with you. I have for a while.”
Your heart pounds in your chest as Luke confesses his feelings for you. Of course, you didn’t actually think he’d like you but he does. Luke Patterson likes you.
Slowly, Luke’s hand grazes yours. You gasp, still not used to the fact that Luke can touch you now. You glance down at your nearly connected hands. You inhale sharply as you lace your fingers with Luke’s.
Simple touches make your stomach erupt in butterflies. You’ve wanted so badly to be able to touch Luke. You’ve wanted to hug him and hold his hand.
Now you can, and it could change everything between you both.
“What do you want us to be?” Luke asks cautiously.
Caught off guard by the question, you stammer, “I’m, um, I’m not sure. I want us to be more than friends but what if this is a temporary thing? What if you being able to touch me is temporary? I don’t want to be able to hold your hand for more than a few days or weeks.”
Luke is quick to cup your face in his hands like he did yesterday after you both figured out you could touch. You meet his pretty hazel eyes. You’re speechless now as you lean into his touch.
After a moment of silence between the two of you, Luke says, “Temporary or not, I don’t want to pass up this chance to be able to call you mine, Y/N. I’m serious.”
You let out a shaky sigh as you maintain eye contact with Luke. He looks at you with hopeful eyes.
He’s right. Even if it is temporary, you want to be able to be his. This could be your only chance to be together and you’d be an idiot if you decided to pass on this opportunity.
“Okay,” you say nodding. “Temporary or not.” Those words have basically solidified your new relationship status with Luke.
He smiles and asks, “Is it okay if I kiss you?”
You nod slightly and say, “Yeah.”
Luke slowly leans into you, his eyes flickering down to your lips. You swallow, nervous. This is your first kiss, and you don’t even know if it’s even real.
Your lips lightly touch Luke’s, and the slight touch sends a jolt of electricity through your body. Your eyes flutter shut as Luke kisses you again, more sure of it this time. He’s not hesitating like he did before.
You take a step closer to the ghost boy as you gently kiss him back. Your heart pounds in your chest as the kiss continues between you both. Butterflies fly around your belly as the kiss intensifies slightly.
The garage door opening forces you to break the kiss. You jump back from Luke, looking at the ground. Luke just smiles and his face reddens.
“Oh,” Alex says. “Oh! Oh, we definitely interrupted something.” You glance up to see Alex, Julie, and Reggie standing in the doorway of the garage.
Reggie says, “They we’re definitely smoochin’.”
You blink at them and Luke says, “Well, we can touch now so we wanted to take full advantage of the fact that we can.”
Julie says, “I think it’s cute that the two of you can finally be together.”
Luke asks, “Is this a permanent thing?”
Both you and Luke look between Reggie, Alex, and Julie. Hope is in your eyes as Alex says, “It does seem to be a permanent thing. We may still be ghosts but we can touch things no problem now. That’s what Willie seems to think anyway.”
Filled with euphoria, you turn and look at Luke. “Looks like it’s not a temporary thing at all,” you say to the guitarist.
He smiles and shakes his head, saying, “It’s a forever thing.” You smile as Luke leans in and presses another sweet kiss to your lips.

Julie tugs against the rather short dress Flynn had squeezed her in, not caring for how much she looks like a glorified candy wrapper in the shimmering gold.
She feels like she's some Ferrer Roche, waiting to be devoured.
Which seems to be her intention for tonight because she's insane, and so is her bestie Flynn, because she's supposed to grab the attention of a certain someone in this club.
Her motives for tonight sound like they come straight out of a Wattpad story, but her boyfriend- or well maybe an ex boyfriend now'- forced her hand.
So a year ago, right around the time they started dating, they both disclosed their 'hall passes'. Just a list of celebrities they were both 'allowed' to cheat on their partners with. It was fun. Just to see who the other person would pick.
It was harmless because the whole point is that these people are so famous, so far out of reach, that the odds of hooking up with them would be essentially impossible.
Nick's was the lead singer of the world famous pop group Dirty Candi. And Julie remembers drunkenly applauding the choice ("She's pretty! Wowww you like them Bubblegum Pop girls?")
They had a laugh that night and Julie doesn't really consider that hall pass conversation all that much since then-
-Until fast forward to last week when Nick disclosed to her that he ran into Carrie Wilson at an event. And then promptly disclosed to her that he invoked his 'Hall Pass' rights.
His rights?! She had exploded at him, and he claims that its no big deal. That he thought she would understand that it was a once in a lifetime opportunity, a crazy set of circumstances, and that- 'Holy shit Jules, she was actually into me. Like what?'
Understandably, Julie stormed out and has been staying with Flynn for the time being. And it must have been the haze of crying and watching a lot of true crime series to cheer herself up that she and Flynn concocted this... plan.
One fueled by spite and pettiness.
Get back at Nick, make him jealous, make him feel how she did- by invoking her own 'Hall Pass' rights-
-which so happens to be Sunset Curve frontman, Luke Patterson...
"There he is" Flynn whispers from their corner of the club and Julie gulps.
"I don't think I can do this," Julie hisses at Flynn, when they spot him at the bar, nursing a drink with his bandmates like he usually would (they did their research).
See, Julie’s been a fan of Luke’s for a long time. Ever since she heard ‘Now or Never’ in freshman year of high school, she’s been hooked onto their music- especially Luke and his voice and playing.
She had their posters on her bedroom wall and had been that girl who would (when no one’s looking) press her fingers to her lips then press them against Luke’s image before going to bed.
It was that bad.
And Julie had probably fantasized on more than one occasion of meeting him and all the other scenarios you would picture in a typical Celeb x Reader scenario.
And she’d like to think she grew out of it, now she’s in her mid-twenties and just casually listens to Sunset Curve, following up on their careers every now and then.
But you can never really shake your first major celebrity crush. Hence he had been on her so called ‘Hall Pass’ list.
(”You into rockstars, Jules?” Nick had teased her that night.)
Seeing him there, in the same place as her, is so surreal, but Flynn’s continued pinches to her arm remind her just how real this is.
“This is ridiculous,” Julie crosses her arms, ready to bow out because what is she thinking? Why would Luke Patterson pick her up, of all people, at the bar? It’s like a supermodel runway in here, filled with girls more accomplished and famous. Her confidence is shaken a bit and she rethinks everything.
"Nick didn't seem to have a problem when he did it," Flynn points out, “And girl, you look great. He would be blind to not want you.”
The mention of Nick still boils her blood, which only reaffirms her plans for revenge. She’s still nervous but they both stand up from their booth and walk over to the bar.
“You’re just saying that because you’re my best friend,”
“No. You’re musician extraordinaire, Julie Molina! The world may not have heard about you, but they will one day. I bet that’s something you can talk to him about. Music? Lyrics?”
Julie could use her songwriting credentials to her advantage, “I mean I guess-”
“Quick, he’s getting up!”
“Flynn, wait I’m not-”
With a forceful push, Flynn sends Julie into the path of Luke Patterson, colliding into him and effectively spilling his drink all over her dress.
“Oh my god,” Luke gapes at her, “I am so sorry-”
Julie fans herself, shaking slightly from the fact she’s drenched and also that her freakin’ high school celebrity crush is looking at her, actually talking to her.
But she recovers quickly, and she speaks, “It’s fine. Really. I guess I’m just... clumsy.” She shoots a glare at Flynn, who merely winks and retreats to their booth.
Luke grimaces and takes her by the hand, leading her somewhere, napkins in his other hand, “Here, let’s get you cleaned up. Again, I’m sorry. Hate to ruin a pretty... dress.”
It’s the way he eyes her that catches Julie off guard. He’s... not talking about the dress, is he?
Julie reels it back in tries her hand at a joke, “I wouldn’t call this a dress. I feel like fancy leftovers in this thing.”
Luke stifles a laugh, “Okay, I mean I wasn’t gonna say anything but yeah. I guess it’s a bit tin foil-y.”
“Not your style?”
His gaze drifts over to her one last time, “Well, any way to take a meal back home is fine by me. I mean-” Luke scrunches his nose, wincing, “I didn’t- I didn’t mean it like that. Shit. That was too... much. Are we-” he laughs nervously, “Are we still... talking about food?”
“Unless you just called me a meal. Then no.”
The look in his eyes say that he’s absolutely mortified, “...yeah. I think I did. I was hoping that was a nightmare.”
“Nope, it definitely happened,”
“Feel free to slap me,”
Julie giggles, somewhat delirious because she hasn’t tried to flirt with him but here Luke is, flirting with her. Or trying. And failing. Like a far cry from the suave rockstar she had pictured him to be.
“No need. Just, can you-?” she points to the napkins he’s holding hostage.
“Oh yeah. Here,” They stop in front of the coat check, and he hands her the napkins so she could try herself off with the best she can.
Suddenly, a weight falls onto her shoulders, she looks up and sees Luke draping a jacket over her- his presumably.
“You looked cold,”
Julie wraps the jacket tight against her, relishing in the warmth, “Wow, thanks.”
Luke smiled and stepped back, “Just so you know, if I made you feel weird in any way, I’d like to throw out my third ‘sorry’ of the night. Nothing has to happen though. So, just say the word and I’ll leave you alone.”
Whew. Um, okay. Julie stands there, faced with this decision.
The compliments aside (she will revisit those later), Luke’s giving her an out. Any reservations she has about moving forward with this plan, this is her chance to leave.
She could just treasure these amazing few minutes for the rest of her life. This could be a story to tell friends at a dinner party, about the time a rockstar lent her his jacket. Would be up there with the time Jack Black passed her on the street and said “Nice hat!”.
But-
Maybe she wants to see where this goes.
“All this talk about food is making me hungry though...” she says and Luke lights up, “I could go for a bite to eat.”
Luke snaps his fingers, “I know just the place.”
*******
Half an hour later, Julie and Flynn are in a smelly alleyway with the guys from Sunset Curve, in line for a street dog cart just a couple blocks away.
“An Oldsmobile?” Julie gawked after hearing Luke and the guys describe the delicacy, “Are you trying to poison me?”
“I swear by it,” Luke insists, taking her hand and moving them up in the line. Flynn sees this and doesn’t comment, but Julie’s starting to get used to Luke doing that, “You have to try!”
Julie doesn't know when she got over her initial starstruck, but by now its so easy to treat Luke like a regular person.
Well, celebrities are all regular people in the end, but more so now that he and his friends, have their sleeves rolled up, smiles wide, ready to dig into what may be the most disgusting hot dog she has ever seen.
Julie takes a bite out of hers and her eyes widen. Wow. It's not terrible.
"Ayy! We got another one, boys" Reggie laughs, noting her reaction.
"Told ya" Luke needles her sides and she giggles, ticklish. Her knee jerk reaction is to playfully shove him, but in the process accidentally smeared some mustard onto his face.
Luke goes to lick it off with his tongue, making funny faces as he did which amused Julie even more.
"Here," she takes a napkin and wipes at his cheek, "Now we're even."
The whole group gets to talking over by the couches, while Flynn chats up the other boys, Julie and Luke are sequestered in their own corner, and yes, eventually the topic switches to music.
"Wait, so you know Rose and the Petal Pushers?" Luke chokes out, "Like everyone I talk to hasn't heard of them!"
"Yup. Have their record actually" Julie beams proudly, censoring out the part that its her mom's band and hence she has one of the few records ever released.
Luke is floored by that and continues to poke her brain for music and Julie finds that their spiels go on naturally, that she could probably talk with Luke for hours and hours.
Which ends up happening. Flynn had already made her escape, having texted her to come home safely, the boys had gone too, leaving them in the nearly empty lot.
When the food truck closes down for the night, they end up taking a stroll down the streets of L.A, talking and getting to know each other.
Julie learns so much about Luke, things she's never heard about from the press- like his songwriting practice, that he cries at Finding Nemo, and that he can do a cartwheel only when drunk.
And in return Julie shares with him her crazy college stories, how she misses her mom sometimes, and that she is encyclopedia of commercial jingles (a fact Luke exploits by rapidly quizzing her at random moments)
Somehow they end up near the beach, with Julie pointing out the different stars she could see, but finds that Luke isn't looking at the sky.
"Hey, Julie..." He gets her attention, "I had a really good time tonight."
"Me too"
"So... would it be alright, if I kiss you?"
Julie's mouth parts, speechless. It happened. Holy shit it happened or... is happening. She has Luke exactly where she wants him.
She could only nod and Luke takes it as the sign to lean in, but just as his lips is about to brush against hers, she freaks-
"Wait" she steps back. Luke opens his mouth, "No. No more 'sorry's from you. This one's one me. I'm sorry but... this- this" She sighs, "I have to be honest with you."
Then she tells Luke everything- Nick, The Hall Pass, her plans for tonight- basically admitting to using him.
When she's done, she expects for Luke to get angry, to leave in a huff and never want to see her again.
That's not what happens.
"This Nick guy sounds like a piece of work" he says.
Julie nods slowly, "Yeah... I guess he was. So maybe that's why I did it. But I don't think I could have gone through with it. Like I don't think we're together, me and Nick but-"
"You wouldn't want to do what he did. Because you don't want to hurt people," Luke surmises, understanding, "And by doing that, that means you're a better person than he is."
"I guess"
"No Julie, you're a good person" Luke insists, "Man, I think that makes me like you even more."
Julie laughs, "God, if my high school self could see me now..."
"You were a big fan?"
"I'm not having this conversation right now with you,"
"Okay cuz now you got me curious-"
Julie swats his shoulder but it doesn't deter the guy from snickering.
On a more serious note though-
"I think..." Julie hums, "I think this means that I got some stuff to work through. Before I could start considering... this."
"I understand"
"But thank you... Luke. For tonight"
"It's been real, Julie,"Luke smiles and pulls her in for a half hug, "And you should keep the jacket. Looks better on you anyway."
****
Julie goes back to Flynn's that night and her bestie's still awake, wanting all the deets. But there's not much to tell. Nothing happened.
She shrugs off the jacket and resigns to the couch, not caring that her makeup is still on. She's about ready to pass out.
Her phone dings.
She pulls it out and sees two notifications.
luke_patterson is now following you
luke_patterson is requesting to message you.
Curious, she accepts the request.
'here if you want to talk, Tin Foil :P'
Julie rolls her eyes and collapses onto the couch, sleeping with a smile on her face.
She doesn't know it now, but the oncoming years would be filled with more messages back and forth, meetups with their friends for more shady street food, building a solid foundation of friendship and eventually, when Luke asks again if he could kiss her, Julie would eagerly prop herself on her toes to close the gap.
Yeah, Julie's high school self would definitely be screaming...

“Y/N!”
You jolted in your seat, spilling your cereal all down the front of your shirt as you sat up alert. “What?!” you groaned, pulling your now soaked shirt away from your body. Alex walked closer to you as he laughed, clutching his stomach. You glared at him. “You’re not funny Alex.” Grumbling, you picked up your now empty cereal bowl, frowning at the mess of your favorite cereal now spilled on the floor. “We live here together. You’re cleaning that up.”
Alex scoffed. “No, I’m not.” He smirked, falling on the couch and hugging your pillow. With a sigh you retreated to the kitchen, putting away your dishes and grabbing the cleaning supplies. You ignored Alex as you cleaned up.
“What do you want?”
“Why aren’t you ready?” he asked and your expressions turned quizzical.
“Ready for what?” you asked him, moving towards your room as he followed, keeping on your heels and arriving at your closet before you could.
Alex groaned, grabbing your favorite top off a hanger and tossing it at you. It hit your face as you pulled it away, trying to throw him a glare but he was already turning around, leaning his head against the wall for you to change in peace. “You promised you’d come to see me perform tonight, remember?”
“Crap.” You whispered out, pulling your wet shirt off and putting on the new one. “I mean, I totally remembered.” You told Alex, tapping his shoulder. He rolled his eyes at you and turned around to lean back on the wall. “Give me 5 minutes and I’ll be out.”
“You got it.” He said, leaving you to grab all the things for tonight. Alex had invited you almost a week ago to watch him perform at the Hollywood Ghost Club, a new gig he got thanks to his boyfriend. You were excited for him, knowing how much this opportunity meant to your best friend. As soon as you were done getting your things you walked back out to the living room, seeing Alex flipping through the channels on the TV. “Finally!” he huffed out, pretending to be more upset than he actually was. You faked a smile at him, locking your arms as you left your house.
“Hotdog!” Willie yelled as Alex and you walked into the club. He was talking to the club owner as Alex waved at him, a small blush on his cheeks and you elbowed him playfully in the side. Willie jogged your way, giving Alex a hug and you let them have their moment, glancing around the club. “Hey Y/N.” Willie said, giving you a much shorter hug than he gave Alex.
“This place is awesome, Willie.”
“I forgot this is your first time here, I’m glad you could come.”
“I couldn’t pass up on the chance to see this guy perform.” You offered Alex a smile but he was busy looking at Willie and Willie at him. You took that as your moment to leave. “Well, I’ll leave you in capable hands.” You patted Alex’s back, pushing him towards Willie as you ducked out of there, looking about the tables.
There were quite a few that were already full, couples and friends sharing conversations as you walked past. You were about to take an empty table before your eyes landed on a particular one in the front where a pair of boys sat and you smirked to yourself, walking slowly their way.
“Is this where the talent sits?” you broke the already made conversation as you slid into the empty chair. Luke and Reggie’s head snapped your way, Reggie with a grin and Luke whose face fell when he saw you.
“What are you doing here, Y/N?” He asked, crossing his arms in front of him.
You smiled at him and gestured to his sleeves. “I see we’re still going with the sleeveless look?” you joked, earning a small laugh out of Reggie who quieted after the look Luke sent him. “Come on Patterson, you know I wouldn’t miss Alex performing.”
“I meant here, at our table.”
“Oh!” you clapped your hands together, picking up a menu that was laying in front of you. “Well, that’s just for fun.” You smirked, avoiding looking at him.
Luke and you had an interesting relationship. You both have known each other for years, not nearly as long as you knew Alex but still a long time. You two considered yourselves rivals, two different artists signed with two different labels. Most people wouldn’t have such a competitive relationship, but you couldn’t help admit it was quite fun knowing you could get under Luke’s skin like no one else. You prided yourself on it.
Luke and Reggie continued their conversation, talking about the club as Reggie let you joined in. The conversation started normal, but it soon turned to Luke and you smart mouthing each other as Reggie watched on amused.
“You two are crazy.” Reggie murmured under his breath and laughed. You and Luke stopped your argument, looking at Reggie who was busying eating.
“We’re not crazy.” You countered.
Reggie met your gaze, quirking a brow at you. “Oh yeah, sure you’re not.” He agreed. Your jaw fell and you shared a look at Luke, seeing him in the same state. “I don’t know how you two do it, but you’re only ever crazy with each other.”
You didn’t have a counter for him this time, neither did Luke because the truth was Reggie’s right. You were only like that with Luke, you couldn’t explain it.
Luckily you didn’t have to because Caleb Covington, the club owner, walked on stage with his showgirls. You sighed, crossing your arms and falling back into your chair as you listened to Caleb talk. Alex, as well as the rest of the musicians, took the stage. He shot you a look, seeing you with Luke and Reggie but you just smiled at him and watched as the show began.
Alex was killing it, just like he always did as you cheered him on nodding your head along and singing under breath to Caleb’s song. You turned your head, prepared to see Reggie and Luke enjoying the music as well but when you looked at Luke you quickly noticed he was rather distracted by one of the dancers who made their way into the audience.
You laughed, pulling his attention off the girl and onto you as he clenched his jaw and let his brows furrow. “What’s up with you?” he asked as you shrugged.
“Nothing.” You turned back to Alex with a smile on your face. Luke scoffed, obviously not believing you as he scooted closer to hear you.
“No, tell me.”
You bit your lip, looking back at him in amusement. “Your friend is on stage playing the drums and you’re looking at the girls?” you quipped. Luke stuttered as he took in what you were saying, getting defensive as you laughed again. “It’s okay Luke, I get it.”
“Get what?” You looked at him for a minute, watching him squirm under your gaze as you slowly smiled. “I don’t like that look.” He groaned out, narrowing his eyes as you leaned forwards on the table, coming close to him and putting your hand under your chin.
“You gonna talk to her afterward? Work that,” you gestured your hand towards his face, “Luke charm of yours?”
He pushed your hand out of his face, holding it against the table as he sat forward as well. “What Luke charm would that be?”
Letting out a chuckle you looked around the room, seeing several people looking at the two of you with starstruck expressions. “Come on Patterson, you’re not oblivious. You’re famous, girls swoon at the sight of you.” Luke glanced down to the table, at your hands still technically touching as he hid a smile. “If you asked that girl on a date, she’d say yes.”
He met your eyes again, a small glint in his as you pulled your hand away slowly. “What makes you think I want to ask her out?”
“Why wouldn’t you?”
“She’s not my type.”
“You have a type?” your cocky remark was met with an eye roll as Luke couldn’t stop smiling.
“Do you?” He countered and you shook your head.
“Since when we’re we talking about me?”
Luke shrugged, taking a sip of the drink in front of him and avoiding looking at you. “We weren’t, but at least the girl would fall in love with me.” He knew he was most likely wrong, but the satisfaction the sentence brought him made up for it.
However, the laugh you let out and the way you threw your head back made him narrow his eyes. “Oh please.”
“You don’t think I could?”
“I wouldn’t subject that poor girl to that torture.”
“Fine, but I bet I could make you fall in love with me.” The air left your lungs at his words. You didn’t have a response to that, no comeback or remark.
If you had to guess, you probably looked like the physical embodiment of a loading screen. “W-what?”
“I bet I could make you fall in love with me.” He repeated as if it was the simplest idea ever.
You looked to Reggie, seeing him no longer paying attention to the show but of you and Luke. Your eyes widened slightly at him, asking him silently for any idea what to do but he put his hands up, not letting himself get involved.
You cleared your throat. “And why would I subject myself to that torture?” you took a sip of your drink quickly, hoping it can calm the sudden bout of nerves hitting you.
It was Luke’s turn to laugh. “Well, how about an actual bet? Whoever can get the other to fall in love first wins.”
Reggie who was still fascinated by the event unfolding in front of him choked on his drink. You both looked at him, Luke patting his back as you tried to focus on helping him but you could get Luke’s deal out of your head. You didn’t know why he offered the bet, but you weren’t the type of person to turn one down.
The music in the club ended as the three of you were brought back to the real reason you were here tonight, Alex. He stood up, holding his drumsticks in the air as he smiled brightly. You cheered for him, clapping and hooting as Luke and Reggie did the same. As Alex began leaving the stage, you turned to Luke and stuck out your hand.
“You’re on.”
---
“You did what?” Alex’s voice boomed from your living room as you grabbed two bottles of water from the kitchen, heading back to him.
“It’s just a bet, Alex. Nothing to get worried about.” You tossed him the bottle. Alex shook his head at you, shocked you’d even take Luke up on something like this.
“What do you get out of it?” You took a sip of your water, trying to think.
“I don’t know, the knowledge that I win?” He glared at you, unimpressed with your answer. “I don’t know, Alex!” your laugh was defensive and you knew it.
“What if,” Alex began and turned his body to face you, “What if you agreed to this because you possibly might have feelings for Luke?” You blinked several times and stared at him, trying to piece how he managed to get there. Leaning forward you pressed the back of your hand against his forehead. “What are you doing?”
“I’m trying to see if you have a fever because I think you might be delusional.” He rolled his eyes, pushing his hand out of his face, and stood up.
“I’m serious.”
“Yeah, so am I. Are you feeling okay?” Alex threw his arms in the air and started pacing, something you’ve learned in the years living with him that he wasn’t going to stop any time soon. You settled into the couch, pulling out your phone and starting to scroll through Instagram before you saw a notification pop up.
@LukePatterson tagged you in a photo
“What the?” you muttered and clicked on the notification. Alex moved behind you to look as you saw a photo of you tonight smiling and in the caption was a heart. “What is he doing?” you whispered and Alex was behind you laughing, having to leave the room from laughing so hard.
You pulled up Luke’s contact immediately and pressed call. It rang twice before he picked up. “Hello there.”
“What was that post?”
You could hear him laugh through the call. “Part one of making you fall in love with me. Figured it would probably be a good idea to be a couple, don’t you think?”
“Why didn’t you talk to me about that first? I mean Luke, I have a career to think about. You have a career to think about! You can’t just drop relationship announcements like that, especially if they’re not real!” You ran a hand through your hair letting out a little sigh at the end. Luke was silent and your stomach sank, you knew he was just trying to win the bet, not trying to put a dent in your careers. You both might be rivals in the public’s eyes, but Luke wouldn’t do that. “Besides,” you said to break the silence, “Posting a picture when I look like that is only going to make me fall in love with myself, Patterson.”
Luke laughed again and you felt calmer knowing he wasn’t cursing himself out in his head. “Touché Y/L/N.” he muttered and you barely heard it over the phone. “Hey, tomorrow be ready at noon.”
“What for?”
“Our date.” You expected more from him, an explanation or what this date entailed but all you heard was the call ending as you pulled the phone from your ear.
You had to admit, the smile that tugged your lips was hard to ignore but you did. Heading back to Instagram, you found yourself on Luke’s post again, leaving a like and a heart emoji in the comments before seeing lots of Luke’s fans had left comments.
Most of them were surprised by the pairing as they should be, a few of them thought it was a joke, and a couple comments sprinkled in believed it to be a career move and fake- a way to combine two of the hottest new singer-songwriters. You groaned at them but had to admit, they were kind of right. It wasn’t a career move, but it was 100% fake.
However, you couldn’t pull your eyes away from the support you and Luke got, something you never thought you’d receive. It was overwhelming, to say the least. You turned your phone off, sitting in the silence of the living room before a text came through from Luke.
Goodnight ♥
You laughed to yourself as you realized goodnight and possibly good morning texts were going to be his move. Smart move Patterson.
You sent one back.
---
The constant sound of your alarm pulled you awake, much to your detest as you turned it off and yawned. It had been a week since you and Luke made that bet. 7 days of good morning and goodnight texts, some of which you had managed to send first, surprising Luke. You went on a couple of dates if you could call them that, to cafes, the beach, even a double date with Alex and Willie. Luke had been pulling out all the stops and you had to admit, you were impressed.
The only hard part about this week was you were in the middle of recording some songs and it had been non-stop in the recording studio all day, the last couple of days being the longest. Luke noticed, of course, seeing how you were extra tired texting and would just facetime him instead when you were making dinner. Neither of you knew what to talk about at the beginning of the week, but as time went on it became easier and more second nature.
You opened your door to a dark apartment as you got back from the studio today, much later than you were planning, but home nonetheless. “Alex?” you called out for your housemate only to see a note taped to the wall telling you he was spending the night with Willie. You sighed and dropped your bag on the floor when your phone rang.
You let out a whine, not wanting to deal with talking to anyone as you pulled it out. Luke’s name and picture lit up your phone as you hesitated a moment before answering the facetime call. “Wow, you look beat.” Luke said as soon as you answered.
You glared at him through the screen. “Thanks. That’s just what every girl wants to hear after a long day.”
He snickered at you but offered a sad smile as he laid back on his bed, resting his head on his bent arm. “You just get home?” he asked and you nodded, shrugging your coat off. “How’d it go?”
“Same as every other day, but we’re closer to finishing recording.”
Luke smiled again, watching you through the phone screen as you put away all your things. “What are your plans tonight?” he asked and you shrugged.
“Eh, probably watch a movie and fall asleep while watching said movie.”
“Alex going to join you?”
You shook your head and propped your phone up in the kitchen. “He’s at Willie’s for the night.” Luke went silent as you moved to grab a cup and fill it up with water. You glanced back to him, seeing him thinking and looking off-camera. “Luke?”
“Give me 15 minutes.” He said before ending the call. You stood there confused, staring at the black screen of your phone.
“Okay then.” You muttered to yourself, pocketing your phone and getting ready for your solo movie night. You changed into your pajamas and curled up in your blanket on the couch, flipping through your movie choices as someone knocked on your door.
You furrowed your brows, trying to figure out who would come over this late and the only person you could think of was Alex. Your feet padded against the ground softly as you approached the door. “Did you forget your key again? I’d thought you’d be gone the rest of the night.” You called through the door as you unlocked it, pulling it open to be met with a smiling Luke.
“Not Alex.” He said and pushed past you.
“Come in, I guess.” you joked as you turned around, seeing him jumping over your couch to lay on it. “What are you doing here, Luke?”
He grinned up at you. “It’s date night.” You put your hands on your hips, pursing your lips at him. “So, what are we watching?” You relented, falling back on your spot as Luke controlled the remote, flipping through the movies until he found one that interested both of you.
It started playing as you cuddled into your blanket, throwing a glance to look at Luke whose arm was draped over the side of the couch. You kept staring at him as an idea popped into your head. Scooting closer to him, you settled into his side and covered both of you with the blanket. Luke glanced down at you, freezing at your contact before relaxing and pulling you closer. He tried to focus on the movie again, but he couldn’t stop looking at you. The side of your face was illuminated with TV light and every few seconds he saw the hint of a smile on your face as something funny happens on screen. Realizing he was smiling himself at the sight of you, he put his eyes on the screen and refused to look away, not even when he felt you fall asleep on him.
You woke up hours later to warmth underneath you, an arm around your waist pulling you close as your eyes widened. Carefully, you turned your head to see Luke asleep with his head resting on the couch. He looked comfy and he felt soft and you couldn’t help but admit that the sight caused your heart to flutter. You hated yourself for it, but you shifted and buried yourself in Luke’s side, falling asleep again in his comfort.
---
Things seemed to escalate from that night Luke accidentally spent at yours. You began to rely on him more, spending most of your nights now watching movies and cuddling on the couch. The next morning however you’d always curse yourself out, remembering that this all started as a bet of who could fall in love and you would rather give up your music career than admit you were losing this bet. It had been a month. A month of Luke and you trying to make each other fall in love as well as convincing the public you were dating.
The public however seemed to love it. Reggie took it upon himself to post on your or Luke’s Instagram any time he caught you both being overly couple-y. You wouldn’t tell anyone, but any time he did you’d watch the videos he’d post over and over again, thinking what if it was real.
You didn’t know Luke was going through the same dilemma. After the night you fell asleep on him, he couldn’t stop thinking about you and he didn’t want to admit it either, but he was starting to think he might actually lose this bet.
The two of you were supposed to have what you considered your millionth date today at the Hollywood Ghost Club, right where it all started. Alex was playing again, as well as Julie, who you hadn’t seen in forever.
Luke and you showed up together, seeing a lot of fans taking your photos as you smiled at each other, never quite used to the attention. Sitting at the same table as the first day you were here, you sat closer to Luke, giving room for Reggie, Flynn, and Nick to join you. You all chatted like old friends, hating the fact that it had been so long since you spoke with everyone’s busy schedule. Not even noticing Luke’s arm draped over your shoulder, you were mid-conversation with Flynn as Caleb begun.
Cheers went through the crowd as the music started and you watched your friends perform. You were enjoying the show before your eyes caught sight of blue feathers moving in the audience, making you turn your head to see none other than the same girl Luke had been looking at before the bet was made. Your stomach dropped as your stare snapped back to the stage, trying not to let yourself overthink. Luke’s arm felt heavy on your shoulders as you slowly looked over to him. His eyes, however, were already on you.
The music in the club seemed to fade in your ears as Luke held your gaze. It was at that moment that Luke realized something he should’ve long ago. “I lost.” His eyes flickered down to your lips as you gasped, not expecting Luke’s declaration. Luke grew worried as you stayed silent. You licked your lips, trying to figure out what to say. He let out a shaky breath, pulling his arm off your shoulders. “I-I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said-“
“I lost too.” You cut him off before cupping his check and pressing your lips to his. Luke kissed back immediately, his eyes closing and his hands pulling you closer. You melted against him and your heart was beating fast as your free hand tangled in his hair before you pulled back.
With your eyes looking into each other’s, your cheeks heated up as the crowd started clapping at the performances end. You laughed at yourself, avoiding the smirking looks of your friends when you cheered for Alex and Julie who despite being on stage, didn’t miss your kiss.
The cheering died down as you leaned into Luke’s side, seeing Reggie look pleased with the both of you. “So I take it you both lost.” He asked, tugging on his leather jacket out of amusement.
You and Luke shared a look before he addressed Reggie. “I’m dating her.” He said and your smile returned. “I think I win.”

Dating Luke Patterson
Tumblr media
Luke Patterson x reader
World count: 3.8k (yes, for a headcanon, let’s not talk about it. Or is this normal? Idk.)
A/N: I made this WAY too long but hopefully you can think of this as your ultimate guide because of it, enjoy!
-
-
• Luke is a VERY affectionate and loving boyfriend, both physically and emotionally.
• Physically:
- This boy would want to touch you anywhere and everywhere and be around you all the time.
- He’d caress your face, stand behind you and rub your shoulders and arms, hug your waist or shoulders from behind, play with your hair, fidget with your bracelets or whatever accessories you’d have on, play with your hands, have his hand on the center of your back...
- Even if he saw an eyelash on your face he wouldn’t hesitate to get it for you instead of telling you about it.
- Anyway to touch you, he’d go for it.
- He’d like to kiss your nose or your forehead when he says goodbye to you.
- When you’re alone he’d like Eskimo kisses.
- He just basks in being in your presence.
- Whether you liked to receive / give physical affection or not, you always have to remember to be a little extra affectionate with him because he really enjoys it.
- He likes knowing you’re there and that you care. He does that for everyone else, so if you do it, he’d really appreciate it.
- He likes the lingering touches the best, like intertwining your fingers together, or when you play with his hair (even though sometimes he doesn’t want it to get messed up), or you rubbing his shoulders like he does to you.
• Emotionally:
- He would be your number one supporter.
- He’d push to try new things or to speak your mind even if you’re afraid.
- He’d compliment you all the time. Saying that the band would be hopeless without you, or by telling you how beautiful he thinks you are, or how talented you are, or by marveling at your artistic or scholastic accomplishments.
- Tell you uplifting stories or give you words of encouragement when you’re feeling down.
• You love that he’s always so smiley and how his nose crinkles and eyes get all squinty when he’s cheesin’ hard.
• You think he’s sunshine personified by the way he is able to brighten up not only your day, but everyone’s day.
• He thinks you’re an angel because of the way you lighten up everyone’s life. Not to mention how you are the first to help, listen, or give advice to anyone in the band.
• Before you start dating, his heart would beat frantically when he saw you.
• After you’re together though, that would fade, but not because the excitement he feels when you’re around would go away, but because you’d become his safe place. Knowing that the person he could confide to always was around would bring a warm and content feeling all around him.
• Luke would be a romantic. We see this because of the way he always sees the bigger picture by constantly looking on the brighter side of things and by the way he writes poetry within his song lyrics, so he would treat your relationship the same way. He’d write you notes or make the band throw you a private concert or play an acoustic cover or original song just for you.
• He’d let you wear his chains or bracelets from time to time or you’d steal them.
• You’d like to play with the rings on his hand.
• You would probably get him some rings or chains to add to his collection.
• Getting a reaction out of you is his favorite thing.
• No matter how far into your relationship you are he’d still like to flirt in order to make your blush.
• If you were a writer / singer / musician he would ask you what you think of some lyrics he’s written or is thinking about writing down, but even if you weren’t, he would ask you anyways because he values your opinions and ideas.
• He either let you take or you’d steal some of his band tees. He’d get major heart eyes seeing you in them. Thinking you looked gorgeous in. his. clothes.
• He’d always give you a wink when he was on stage and saw you in the crowd or backstage.
• If you didn’t know how to play an instrument, he would want to teach you to play guitar. He just wants to share his passion.
• He’d introduce you to music you’d never listened to and you’d introduce him to 2000s + recent stuff that you think he’d like.
• When he’s in your room he’s be so nosy and look through all your stuff, but honestly, when you were in his room (if this was 90s) you’d do the same (he’d have so many CDs and other weird interesting stuff.)
Dating Ghost!Luke:
• So you can see him!
• Maybe you’re Julie’s close friend or sibling.
• You’d really enjoy that you and Julie get to have such special friendships with all three of the guys.
• Perhaps you’d never had a sense of belonging like that, and now you had a group of people you could always rely on to be there for you and understand you.
• I think it would make you and Julie closer.
• Luke would obviously be a goner for you right when he saw your face, but since he just loves to be close to everyone you couldn’t tell.
• You’d probably think if he had a crush on anyone it was Julie because of how great they look when they sing together despite how sweetly or flirtatiously he would talk to you.
• You’d just assume he was like that with everyone.
• Julie, Alex, and Reggie would see how much he liked you though.
• You and Julie would teach the guys about the internet, different innovations, etc.
• Luke’s way of getting to talk to you more, other than pestering you with questions about yourself, would definitely be asking you about how to do this and that online, or just to talk to you about how things have changed so you can put it into perspective for him.
• He’d really like listening to your voice. He would hang onto every word.
• And you really liked his voice too, both singing and speaking, so whatever questions he asked you, you would always forward them back to him. You liked how passionately he spoke about everything. You also, hung onto every word.
• If you couldn’t touch, despite knowing that there was obviously more than friendship going on between the two of you, you’d be reluctant to tell each other of your feelings.
• When the truth comes out however you decide to make it work.
• But if you could touch, Luke would of course be the happiest guy on Earth and never let go of you.
• The band remembers to give you guys alone time in the garage or in Julie’s / your room sometimes, so you can just speak freely with him.
• But you guys also take walks on the beach or the park while you pretend you're on the  phone or have your headphones in so you can have a change of scenery.
• You would be the glue of the group / band.
• If you weren’t a part of the band (like singing / playing an instrument specifically) it would probably be easiest for you to see their band spats in an unbiased and reasonable manner.
• You’d make sure to ask Alex how he’s doing because you know he’s always got something on his mind, but doesn’t always share unless asked.
• You’d make sure to always find something fun to do with Reggie from time to time, or just start up a conversation with him about mundane things.
• You see how he likes to watch Ray and Carlos all the time, so you wonder if maybe he just wants some kind of familial connection, and you decide that it’ll be you.
• I think he’d appreciate how you take the time to ask him questions and listen to his answers seriously, despite how he says things in such a humorous tone, and you’d appreciate how surprisingly observant he is (e.g. he noticed Ray was worried about Julie by how he had been stress eating all week. Reggie is a sweet boy who cares, guys.)
• You realize you both have hidden traits that no one gives you credit for except each other.
• Luke would like how you had a unique relationship with everyone and truly put in the effort to make sure each one is personalized between you and that person. It reminded him of himself— Always trying to give a little love to everyone — It would make him that much more fond of you.
• You’d settle arguments between the guys.
• Or maybe even little arguments between Julie and Luke. Although neither could stay mad at each other for long (honestly being “mad” at each other wouldn’t even be the word), but sometimes they took opposing sides to different situations like where to add a certain verse or about a poor decision Julie felt the guys made (like haunting Bobby or going to Caleb’s), so you’d be there to give an outside opinion or to calm the heated moments.
• He’d like to stare at you whenever he could. When you were in the garage talking to Julie or Flynn or if it’s 90s!Luke he’d do it in class or in the hallways.
• Either Julie or Alex would say he’s a creep for staring but Luke would say he’s just admiring.
• Little did he know you did the same.
• And now, speaking of 90s Luke...
Dating Alive!Luke:
• Okay, so we’re in the 90s and he’s in high school.
• He either met you because you share a class together and he thought you were pretty (and you thought he was beautiful, of course) or you and Alex shared a class together and he befriended you.
• Let’s say it’s Alex: you guys would bond over the fact that presentations are stupid and only done to make people feel uncomfortable and ultimately humiliate themselves.
• When Alex didn’t have a class with Reggie and or Luke he’d feel lonely but if you were there, you could now be a person he could go to, so you two could be lonely together.
• Even if you guys didn’t have much in common the fact that you were easy to talk to, always decided to be partners with him, or help each other out in class gave him comfort, so maybe one day he’d ask you to sit with him at lunch or see a gig his band managed to get.
• You go (You can choose which, I’m making it a choose your own adventure for about a whole second. Enjoy.) and boom enter Luke and his sunshine eyes, pretty hair, GORGEOUS arms, a muscle tee, along with his classic vans and you’re like , WHOA, but you try to hide it.
• And Luke is like, WHOA, but he tries to hide it.
• And Alex is like, “Of course.”
• And Reggie is like, “Hi I’m Reggie. We’re Sunset Curve, tell you friends.”
• And you’re like, “But I don’t have (m)any friends.”
• And Alex is like, “That’s okay I only have three (3) friends and before that I had none!”
• And Luke is like, “I’ll be your friend 👀”
• And Reggie is like, “By the way he’s looking at you, I think he wants to be more than just ‘friends’ 😏😉”
• And Luke is like, “🤡”
• And Alex is like, “🤡”
• And Reggie is like, “🤠?”
• And you’re like, *internally SCREAMING*
• Here comes that mutual pining.
• Alex starts to bring you around more often which helps you to get closer to all three of them, but especially Luke, who will ask you a series of never ending questions about yourself.
• You think Luke is just really nice and that's why he's so friendly when you’re around, but in actuality he just wants to know all about you.
• Alex and Reggie would bother him about it when you’re not around.
• One day, after he just couldn’t take it anymore he’d finally ask you out, or just kisses you unexpectedly because Luke acts before he thinks sometimes.
• The rest is history.
• Anyway...
• He’s a sweetie and probably wouldn’t really talk crap about teachers, but I know he’s not into school either.
• That being said: he’d totally get you to skip one day or quite a few days if he gets you to agree saying “please, please, please,” or telling you that you can afford to miss because you’re so much smarter than him, or just giving you so many kisses you can’t think straight.
• Skipping activities would include:
- Finding some random coffeehouse for him and the band to play impromptu while you watch.
- Adventures in the park or woods: he’s find a grassy place and sing songs to you on his guitar or you’d do something silly like play tag because Luke is a child.
- Sit on the trunk of Alex or Reggie’s car (let's say one of them has one) and have a quick make out session or just talks out life (probably his parental issues) it depends on how he’s feeling that day.
- Or finally, you guys would explore around the school and find rooms you’d never been in or see what the back of the auditorium looked like for the first time. If you guys ever get caught he’d either tell you to hide or run or find some way to get you out of it. He would take full blame, never wanting to get you in trouble.
• Once again, being the romantic he is, he’d probably take you to your first concert, write you cards, come by your locker after every period, take you out on weekends or weekdays whenever he could.
• He’d try to be a gentleman in front of your parents, really wanting them to like him, and he’d try to respect your curfew if you had one, but sometimes he would like to be rebellious (e.g. when he tells Julie to sneak out the window for their first gig) and try to get you to sneak out, especially if it was for something really special he planned. Ex. a moonlight serenade. But again, sometimes this boy doesn’t think, so he’d probably just get you to come out so you could kiss, or talk, or talk and kiss.
• All around, you guys would just have a blast together because Luke’s mission is to bring joy to your life.
• He genuinely loves seeing people happy and if you two were in a relationship, your happiness would definitely be a top top top priority.
• He would burn you CDs.
• He’d love to listen to them with you because he just loves sharing music with you and he just wants to see your reactions right then and there.
• He’s introduce you to new things and you would talk for hours about music you both liked or movies you loved.
• He’d like to hold your hand in the halls.
• Send you notes in class or even throw them at you or if you were sitting too far apart.
• He’d even tell someone to tell you he had something to say. Down the chain his call would go till the last person closest to you tells you that Luke is asking for you. You’d look and all he’d say is “hi” with the goofiest smile.
• You’d either have no choice but to smile back because of how infectious he is, or if you had enough willpower, you’d roll your eyes and look away. If the latter, he would try again and again till he got you to give in.
• He’d mimic or make faces when the teacher or a classmate said something stupid.
• He’s a little needy that way. He just wants your attention and affection.
• Again, he’d do anything to see you smile and equally as important, bothering you is the only joy he gets out of class whenever he’s not in a class with the guys.
• You’d proofread his essays or any writing that was for any type of English class because when he’s really feeling up to it, he actually puts in effort in his writing assignments.
• You tell him that he’s a good writer and that if the band thing doesn’t work out he could always become a music / poetry teacher.
• “Too bad the band thing is going to work out,” he’d assure you.
• You believed him, but you always just want to let him know he has far more talents than what he, or his teachers, for that matter give him credit for.
• Despite his major confidence in his musical abilities he feels like he falls short in other aspects, something you were surprised to learn about him, so you do your best to compliment him and encourage him.
• But especially in school since he already thinks of it in such low standards.
• When his parents fight with him about the band, you're his safe space. Sometimes he doesn’t like to tell Alex and Reggie about all the gritty details because they have family issues too, but he can always vent to you.
• You like hanging out in his room. His personality is written all over it. Band posters, movie posters, ideas for songs as well as song lyrics he loves taped up to the wall on scrap pieces of paper and sticky notes, it’s a little messy but it’s mostly just clothes and crumpled paper on the floor.
• Unfortunately, you don’t hang there too much because Luke doesn’t always like being around his parents.
• His parents like you though and enjoy when you’re around the house because it means Luke is actually around too.
• They know you encourage him at school and his mother specifically knows he needs that extra support and appreciates you for it.
• She’s told you that she wishes she could show Luke that she wants to give him that, but sometimes Luke gets too preoccupied with his music and has the notion that just because she is concerned about his career choice that she is totally against him.
• Speaking of that, despite how much Luke loves being your boyfriend and tries his best to show you how much he loves you, he’s not always perfect.
• Sometimes music and the band comes between you two as well.
• When he’s really driven on a song idea, whether it be working on the lyrics to a song, composing the music to it , rehearsing it with the band, etc., it will take all his attention.
• When he gets a fixation on something, he can be very single minded.
• All he’ll want to do is be with his thoughts and guitar or with the band that he forgets to check in with you.
• Once you tell him though, he will feel terrible about it. Not seeing how his passion can make him so blind at times.
• “I just get really into it, you know? I’m sorry! I can make it up to you.” His bottom lip would jut out and his eyes would drop dopily. He always looked like such a puppy, you could stay mad for long.
• “How are you going to prove you’re really sorry?” you’d ask knowing this wasn’t the first nor will it be the last time he gets “really into” his music.
• “I’m dropping everything today. It’s just you and me. Promise.” And he’d mean it.
• When Luke knows he’s at fault he will always try 110% to make it right. He doesn’t like it when he hurts people, especially you. He feels like he’s failed in a way.
• He’d show you new snippets of new songs he’s working on.
• You guys would talk endlessly about favorite bands and he would introduce you to ones you’d never heard before.
• You liked when he talked about his favorite musicians. Seeing someone talk passionately about something they loved was always beautiful to witness, but when Luke did it, it was next level.
• He’d literally buzz everywhere, talk super fast, and bounce around. He vibrates happiness and those are the moments where you knew for sure why he was so determined on his goals to make the band work. The love he has is so intense, so undeniable, so unbreakable. You hoped you could find something you loved like that one day. Other than him, of course.
• Oh, wait? Is that how you figure out you love him? For his passionate and brave spirit that did nothing but put a smile on your face all day, everyday? You couldn’t even compute the thought. It felt right, of course, but it was scary.
• You didn’t tell him. I think he’d say I love you first anyway and you’d happily say it back, finally releasing the beautiful realization you held inside for so long.
• He’d want you to go to every gig they got.
• “I can’t do it without you,” he’d say.
• Sometimes he knew you couldn’t though, because he and the band would only get slots in the middle of the night sometimes, or they’d do all-nighters around the city playing on the outsides of clubs just to get noticed.
• Sometimes they would get in trouble, or even ban from some places and he didn’t want you to be a part of that. He’d tell you that he wants you to get your sleep.
• But if it was the weekend, or the summer, or just a day you decided you have the time to be rebellious, you’d love to cheer them on, or maybe you would even be the getaway driver when workers would try to kick them out.
• You’d help Luke and the boys with their homework or school work a lot.
• Whether you were smart or an average student they’d think you were a genius and appreciate how you remind them of assignment deadlines from the classes you’d share. They only went to school to spend time together and outside of school was for music, so they’d probably fail without you.
• Luke would be the first to thank you every time.
• You would be there for him when he ran away. You’d tell him that maybe he should go back and talk to his parents or that maybe it would be best to at least finish high school, but he dismisses both as options immediately, saying that he knows what he wants. That school nor his parents are going to give it to him, so why bother.
• You support him and believe in his dream, but you still worry from time to time. You decide that it's his choice and that you love him, so you just make sure that he is eating, sleeping, and that you’re there for him if he needs someone to talk to or just someone to hug.
Now back to the general stuff:
• He’d give you a nickname. Personally, I think he’d try to shorten your name in some way that hopefully no one else calls you yet so he can feel special.
• Alex and Reggie would probably start calling you by that nickname sometimes too soon after that.
• As for usual nicknames, I think sometimes when he greets you he’d call you “beautiful”
•  “Hey beautiful, how you doin’?” Lets pretend that he watched the first season of Friends in ‘94 and then watched the rest on your laptop after he comes back and be obsessed like Charlie.
• He’d make your laugh a lot. Sometimes because he’s flirty or silly but other times it was because he could just be really dumb (in a sweet way, of course.)
• You would wonder why everyone would call Reggie the clueless one. It seemed like all the guys shared one braincell and Alex just hogged it most of the time.
• He’d love kissing. I don’t think he’d do full on make outs in the halls or in front of the band (not because he's shy though), but when you two were alone, in the garage or in each other's rooms he would be so down, there is no stopping him, and he’d try to make them last as long as he could.
• He would ask for good luck kisses before a show just to get you to touch him, as always.
• When you saw him shirtless for the first time your breath would be taken away. You knew he was probably toned because those sleeveless tees but you still couldn’t predict just how GORGEOUS and HOT he would look, whew.
• He’s probably get cocky for a second because of your speechless reaction.
• But that confidence would go right out the door whenever he saw you without a shirt, his eyes would be blown, totally star struck.
• He’d like to cuddle or rest his head on your lap, especially when he needs to relax from the stress he’s feeling due to his home life or from writing. You’d gently stroke his hair. It would soothe him.
• He’d also like it when you rest your head on his lap too. In those moments, he would take it as full permission to touch you and kiss you up, no complaints.
• Overall, Luke would just love you up and write you pretty songs forever and ever. Best boyfriend.

The spontaneous meetings that you had with Luke were exhilarating, whether it be in a bed, on the kitchen counter, or in a public bathroom, it didn’t matter. There was a deal that you guys had made after your first hook-up, and mostly it was for Luke to just blow off steam but you certainly got its benefits too. Sure, it was very well-known that Luke was a bit of a fuck boy, but he didn’t like it going around school every time he had sex with a girl. That’s why he only did it with you, a way for him to have a release, but without the rumors or real commitment.
For the first two months, you were fine with that. You were more than fine with that. Yet, as the months went on, the adrenaline that you had experienced at the start of the deal was not as strong, what was stronger was your longing for more. Currently, that was all you felt as you looked at him.
He had his back turned towards you, you still wrapped up in the sheets of his bed, watching his back muscles flex as he grabbed and put his muscle tee back on. During your time with Luke, every single piece of attention he had was on you, and you liked that, but after he was finished, it was like you never even existed. You would normally get a few words, telling you that he would text you next time he needed you, and the occasional goodbye, but you wanted more.
Even though you and Luke never actually talked, you were always quite good at reading people. Luke was more difficult but the more you paid attention to his mannerisms, the way he walked, and the way he interacted with his friends you knew quite a few quirks that he did when he was feeling certain ways. That’s how you knew what to expect from him when you met up with him.
You weren’t entirely sure of the reason that Luke didn’t want a relationship but you often found yourself pondering it. Maybe he wasn’t ready for it, maybe he found himself too busy with the band but the most believable thing you had thought up was that Luke wasn’t the relationship type. He just wanted to fuck, no connections or attachments whatsoever and he got that with you, maybe that’s why he kept you around.
“I’ll text you later. Maybe we can meet up after band practice if you’re free,” Luke commented, not even turning to face you whilst he continued to pick up things, getting ready. He situated his beanie on his head, grabbing his flannel and a few other things before heading towards his bedroom door, “my mom and dad aren’t home, you can let yourself out. You have your key, right?”
Ah yes, your key. The key to Luke’s front door that he gave you after a month of you guys ‘seeing’ each other. He needed for you to be easy access, so if that meant giving you a key then so be it.
“Yeah,” You replied to the boy, who left without another word, much less saying goodbye. You were used to it unfortunately, Luke was often like this and only gave a goodbye if he was in an extra good mood, which wasn’t as often as you would have liked it to be. After hearing the front door shut, you sighed heavily, taking your time to get out of Luke’s bed, still very much nude, and making your way over to his dresser.
Opening it up, you reached for the back part, which was carefully hidden away from sight which contained extra clothes for you to wear if need be and after Luke had ripped your shirt off of your body, you felt that you probably should change into something new. Your hand lightly graced over the top of a sweatshirt that was Luke’s, one he had given you after ripping your shirt off the first time and you didn’t have anything to wear. You remembered the feeling of comfort you felt when you had it wrapped around your figure.
Just imagine if you could have that all the time. Like those girls from school that wear their boyfriend’s stuff.
But you knew that couldn’t happen, not with Luke. You guys had a deal, there were no feelings or attachments so you couldn’t afford to be fantasizing about a romantic life with him. You guys were friends with benefits, but you were barely even friends.
. . .
“Listen, I’m telling you y/n, this new teacher is evil,” Your friend complained, grunting at the end of her sentence. Laughing a little, you looked over at her as you arrived at your lockers, “he gave us a pop quiz on his first day. THE FIRST DAY!”
You winced slightly for her. If the teacher was willing to give her a pop quiz on the first day, you can imagine thorough tests in her future, and a lot of them. Putting your last lesson’s books in your locker, you turn towards your friend again, “That sounds rough.”
“It is,” She agreed, shaking her head wildly as she closes her locker over before checking her watch, “I’m late for class though, and you’re going to be too. I’ll see you later.”
With that, she walked away, leaving you to pull out the textbooks you needed for your next subject before closing your locker over, “Hey.”
Your eyes shot up towards the voice as you jumped back away from them in fright before realizing who it was. Luke. He wasn’t wearing his usual beanie, and instead was keeping his hair plain and messy, just like it was after sex, sweat making the strands stick to his forehead.
Eyes trailing down to your books, you muttered quietly, “I thought it was part of the deal that we don’t talk in school.”
“It is but you weren’t replying to my texts and I really needed you last night,” Luke sighed, making you raise an eyebrow at him, not that he noticed. It had been three days since the day you had let yourself out of his house and since the last time you guys had interacted in any sexual activities.
You had been waiting for the text that he would send that night, getting you to get over to his house after band practice but the more you waited, the more you thought about it. It had gotten to the stage you were checking your phone for any new notifications every few minutes, and finding yourself more and more relieved when the notification never came. Sure, you had found the whole friends with benefits great at the beginning but you started to long for a more...romantic relationship. And you certainly wouldn’t class fucking Luke in a public bathroom romantic.
“Sorry,” You sighed unapologetically, eyes never moving up to meet Luke’s eyes which stayed firmly on you, watching as you fumbled with your textbooks, “I didn’t see your messages.”
That was a blatant lie but Luke didn’t need to know that. You had seen his message pop up on your phone screen last night, but you never bothered to tap into it or to reply. You found yourself pushing you away from your phone, keeping it further than arms distance s your hands didn’t work against you, and message him back, so that you didn’t end up over there, tangled up in his sheets whilst he walked out on you again.
“Well I have a band performance tonight, I can text you the address and you can meet me there, we can head back to mine?” Luke suggested, leaning coolly against the lockers as he spoke, seeing a hesitant and faint nod coming from your ducked head. A smirk arose onto his face as he spoke quieter, leaning closer to you, “Or we can go into the janitor’s closet right now.”
Head whipping up to look at him, his hazel eyes meet your widened ones, his smirk growing even bigger. He pushed himself off of the lockers, hands in the pockets of his jeans but you took one step backward and further away from him, shaking your head, “I’m late for class.”
“Oh come on y/n,” Luke tried to coerce, giving you a small groan with a pout. He reached out for your arm, grabbing it softly and giving you a small tug closer to him but you stayed firmly planted on the ground you stood on.
Luke was good at a lot of things, and normally you would cave but not today. Sure, you wouldn’t be completely objected to meeting up with him later, even if you didn’t completely want to but you would not do it with him right now. He had gotten good at getting what he wanted from you, but he would not be getting this, no matter how many pouts and puppy eyes he gave you.
“No.”
Luke pouted again, giving you a mocking pout but you averted your gaze making him whine a little, “Oh y/n/n, you’re no fun.”
Turning on your heels you started to walk away from him, noticing how deserted the hallways were, and suddenly realizing just how late for class you were. However, you didn’t speed up, walking calmly as you shouted over your shoulder, “Send me the address for your gig, Patterson.”
. . .
Logically, you knew that walking to the venue that Luke was playing at was the best option considering he would be driving you to his place. You knew that your car would most likely be abandoned at the venue if you did take it, and Luke probably wouldn’t give you a ride to get it afterward so you decided to walk instead. That’s probably why you arrived a little too early, Luke still performing when you got there.
You couldn’t dispute that Luke was a very talented musician but you guys never spoke about his band or the work he did for it. You knew that music would forever come first to Luke, over everything and anything as that was what he was truly passionate about, and seeing him in his element finally was nice.
Somehow, he managed to find you in the crowds, subtly smirking at you but only so you could tell. His eyes didn’t stay on you too long, and you weren’t too sure if that was because he didn’t want anyone to catch on or if he simply didn’t care but you were thinking the latter. You were just technically a ‘booty call’ after all, even if the term made you feel sick.
Thankfully, it wasn’t long before they all finished up and people filed out of the venue. You, of course, waited behind, knowing that Luke would not want to be seen getting into a car with a girl so you awkwardly waited about. It wasn’t long before the venue was practically empty, and you felt a ping of a notification causing your phone to vibrate.
go to the bar and ask for my keys, they know to give them to you
You texted back an okay before going to the bar and retrieving the keys, thanking the barman, and walking out to Luke’s car. There was only a handful of times that you had been in Luke’s car, actually, you could only count two. One was him driving you from where he met with you to a cafe because he left something there the previous day and one was from meeting up with you somewhere to go to his house.
You found yourself slouching down in the passenger seat of Luke’s car, head just peeking over the dashboard. The parking lot was pretty much abandoned, but you didn’t want to be caught by anyone in Luke’s car anyway, you couldn’t imagine Luke would be too pleased if you were.
Luke arrived out not long after, his hair slightly damp and you could only imagine that he had taken a shower out before meeting with you. How considerate. He took the car keys off of you, giving you a small thank you before he started up the car and started to drive without another word. You, personally, didn’t plan on breaking the silence, knowing that Luke did not like small talk so you weren’t about to start it.
Eyes trained on the road, you drummed your fingers on your thigh to the rhythm of the music that played quietly through the radio. That was until Luke pulled up at the side of the road. Confused, you furrowed your eyebrows and turned towards him, “What? Why did you stop?”
He turned towards you, giving you a small smile before caressing your cheek slightly and going into the backseat. From his position there, he leaned over and kissed you on the lips with a lot of force, grabbing at your shirt and tugging you softly towards him.
Breaking away from the kiss, you looked towards him knowing exactly what he was indicating. Opening your mouth in shock, you started to shake your head, “Luke we can’t do this in your car-”
“C’mon y/n, live a little.”
It wasn’t long until you clambered into the back of the car with Luke, him attaching your lips again but you felt him smirk into the kiss. He helped you out of your trousers and smirked at you, making direct eye contact as he did so. Then he ripped your top off and threw it to the side.
He was on top of you soon enough, one of your hands in his hair and one trailing down his back. You were both in minimal clothing, both with simply your underwear on. His hand left your waist side as he fumbled to get something from the pouch in his car, pulling out a condom.
Pulling away, you turn to look at the foil in his hands, your lips parting slightly. Luke put the foil down, but your eyes stayed on it as a hand hooked under your face. Your face was shifted up to make your eyes meet Luke’s hazel ones. He silently asked if you were okay, making you nod your head and send him a weak smile before he kissed you again. And there, another night with Luke begun.
However, today it was different. Sure, you felt the pleasure of having sex with Luke, but the adrenaline, the addictiveness wasn’t the same. It wasn’t as good as you remembered it. You thought that maybe you were just having an off day and you just weren’t really feeling it today but the more you thought about it the more unappealing it became. Luke was attractive for sure and you knew girls that would pay good money, betray their best friends and drop everything for the chance to fuck the hottest guy in school but the want wasn’t there for you anymore.
Breathing heavily, you felt Luke get up from his position on top of you, grabbing his jeans that had been disregarded under one of the seats, putting his shirt back on as he climbed back to the front. You looked at where he was, clearly waiting for you to get dressed and that’s what you did, hesitantly. However, you felt a blush rise to your cheeks in embarrassment as you thought about it. Shit.
“Everything okay, y/n?” You heard Luke ask, eyes catching onto his through the rear-view mirror. Despite the dark lighting in the car hiding your deep crimson blush, he could still tell you were embarrassed.
“Luke I forgot to pack another shirt.”
His eyes went wide as you bit your lip, looking down at your lap, your arms crossing over your chest, trying your best to cover your naked torso. He quickly clambered out of the car, going into the trunk and getting something without another word before reaching into the car and passing you something. His sweatshirt.
E/c eyes meeting his hazel ones, you looked at him hesitantly, to which he moved the sweatshirt closer to you, encouraging you to take it. So you did. Once you were fully clothed, you moved back into the front of the vehicle, and Luke slid back into the driver's seat and started the car up without another word.
It wasn’t long before he took an unfamiliar turn, causing you to furrow your eyebrows, “Hey Luke, this isn’t the way back to yours. I think you took the wrong turn.”
“I’m not driving to mine, I’m taking you back home,” He commented, noticing but not commenting on the wide eyes and parted lips that you sent him way. He knew that he wasn’t the nicest guy, or the most affectionate, but did you really expect he would abandon you to find your own way home in the deep hours of the night?
But unknown to him, you did. You expected him to drive back to his, maybe have sex again, and leave you to find your own way home. Or if you were lucky, would drop you off on the main road, and walk half of the way home. However, you wouldn’t say that to him. You knew that Luke wasn’t a bad guy and you certainly didn’t want to hurt his feelings by saying something like that.
Once again, you both found your way into a silence that was neither comfortable nor uncomfortable, simply listening to the quiet playing of the music on the radio. It was some punk rock channel because you knew how much Luke despised mainstream stuff. The only other sound you could hear was the occasional passing car.
“Hey, Luke?” You piped up, breaking the silence that the car held, despite the radio playing softly in the background. He kept his eyes on the road as he took another turn simply humming at you to let you know that he was listening, “Thanks. For the sweatshirt, I mean.”
“Don’t worry about it. Just give me it back when you come over to mine next time,” Luke said nonchalantly, keeping his eyes on the road. Head ducking down, you simply nodded as you felt your stomach fall slightly, suddenly everything clicking into place.
You knew why you didn’t want to continue with Luke. You knew why you no longer enjoyed the sex anymore. And you knew exactly what you had to do.
. . .
It was the next day that you were sat outside of Luke’s house, apprehensive as to if you wanted to truly go through with this. Yet, you knew that you had to. With a parcel in hand, along with a small envelope containing a letter and your house key to Luke’s house, you walked up to the front of the house, going to place the parcel down. The overhang would protect it if it was to rain, or maybe you could just ring the doorbell and run away. Yet, in your moments of hesitation, the door was opened and you were faced with an older brunette woman.
“Oh hello, darling. Can I help you?” She asked, smiling sweetly at you. You knew exactly who this was, it was Emily, Luke’s mom.
“Yeah actually, you can,” You smiled sweetly at her despite your nerves, shifting front foot to foot. Despite knowing Luke for a while and being...involved with him for a few months, you had never actually met Emily before but just from the way she acted, you knew she was a great person. She was a real sweetheart to you anyway, “can you give this to Luke for me, please?”
“Luke is upstairs, you can give it to him yourself if you want,” She smiled back, stepping back almost silently inviting you to go into her house and deliver the parcel to Luke yourself.
However, that was the last thing you wanted to do. Having to awkwardly in person explain that you needed love and wanted romance, so you chickened out and wrote him a letter instead. But you knew that the letter would explain everything, and it would let Luke know that he didn’t do anything wrong, you couldn’t promise yourself that you would be able to do that in the heat of the moment.
Profusely shaking your head, you held the parcel containing his sweatshirt out to her, “Oh no, no, no, I think it’s best I get on my way. I have stuff to do anyway. Thank you, Mrs. Patterson.”
“You’re welcome darling,” With that, she gave one last smile and you started to walk away, leaving her to close the door behind her. You made your way to the car, going in and sitting down but you just sat there for a few moments, looking over what just happened. Quickly, you pulled out your phone, going down to Luke’s contact and hovering over his name, thumb shaking wildly.
Biting your lip you quickly tap into it and block his contact. This was the way it had to be, you knew that. You knew that if he asked you to come over or if he texted you that you would cave because you were a sucker for his puppy eyes and always would be. It wasn’t a secret to you that you have feelings for him, it was always something you had considered even though it was firmly put that feelings were off the table. You just wished for him to hold you in his arms, to hug you, to kiss you with the same passion but also kiss you with tender love, to tell you that he loved you.
Yet, at the end of the day, you knew you couldn’t have him. He would never give you what you wanted, he wasn’t the hugging type; the date type. After all, he was trained for sin, and that was all he was willing to give.

Fuel to Flame, Water to Tame | Oneshot (Alive!Luke Patterson x Reader)
A/N: Finally finished my freaking studying and tests so I’m here to release this lil thing.  Idk how I managed to make it a little steamy at the end but we just gonna roll with it lol. Very sweet with a lil make out sesh at the end. Enjoy!
Word count: 2.1k
Warning: swearing, typos, steamy make out ;)
|||||
For a boy who wanted to rule the world with his band and therefore took any chance to talk about it, there’s only been a few times that Luke’s been rendered speechless. One of those times was when Julie introduced her sweet neighbor, Y/N, to the band. The lead singer explained that you always heard them practice and, wanting to know who was responsible, knocked on the Molinas’ door one day. Julie excitedly told her friend about her new band and eagerly invited you to their next rehearsal.
You and Julie have always been friends - not exactly close, but closer than acquaintances. Growing up, you went to private schools and occasionally hung out with Julie during school breaks. Julie never had a problem with you - rather, she always felt peaceful and light whenever her neighbor was around. The singer will always remember when you kept her company at her mom’s wake. You did share your condolences, but instead of leaving or sharing more pitying words, you took a seat beside the grieving girl and held her hand. Where the stares, the sad memories, and the pitiful smiles were too much, the singer appreciated the silent, comforting presence of her friendly neighbor.
“Boys, this is Y/N. She’s my next door neighbor and heard our music from her house.”
“Sorry if we’re being too loud. Are we too loud?” Reggie’s apology quickly falls from his mouth.
“You’re apologizing as if being too loud is a bad thing,” you thoughtfully comment with an amused yet kind smile.
“Well, do you like our loud music?” Luke asks, his mouth quirking up at the cute stranger’s first sentence.
“Now, that’s the question you should be asking.”
And with that quick wit and cheeky smile, Luke saw something in you. Of course, he appreciated your praise after they all introduced themselves (disinterest in his music would be a real turn off). He understood right away that you were a special kind of girl, and you got the feeling that the guitarist would become significant part of your life.
The reasons for your attraction the guitarist were obvious. At first, you were definitely thrown off by the confident boy who came on a little too strong for your liking. He sought after you - shameless flirting and banter always in his back pocket. Luke did what any musician would do - use his music and confidence to charm the girl. It worked to an extent. You were slightly embarrassed, but overall smitten for you had never been someone’s muse. But you were also smart, not naively falling at the first siren note. No, throughout your time with the band, your attraction gradually grew with all the late night conversations, entertaining car rides to and from gigs, and romantic songs. The initial spark from the fateful introduction only grew into a full blown relationship between the unlikely pair.
Everyone knew who Luke was and what he was like. The idea that the guitarist could sit idly and watch the world go by is a ridiculous thought. His passion for music and ambition to rule the world knew no limits. The heart that he so clearly wears on his (lack of) sleeve creates art in the form of lively guitar riffs and beautiful lyrics. The unbridled emotions are channeled through his explosive movements as he rocks the stage with his friends. His love for you carried the same exact energy.
“Y/N, Y/N, babe, if Alex says that drums aren’t for you, then it isn’t for you,” Luke slightly winces at the last bang you produced from behind the drums.
He had no problem poking fun at you, knowing that you never took his jokes seriously. It’s what made your relationship so fun. You throw your arms up in protest, still gripping drumsticks, as if that gesture would dissuade the musicians from their current criticism.
“You can hold a beat, but drumming is a bit more complicated than just stomping your foot. Sorry, Y/N,” Alex apologizes, trying to hide the amusement in his voice.
“Okay, fine, I’m not the best at drumming. But I can learn!” Luke admired the determination despite your reluctant agreement with the drummer’s feedback.
“And I know just the right blonde with impeccable street fashion sense.” He then rolls his eyes at your schmoozing, but found it endearing.
“You know none of us can say no to you. Alright, let’s try this again…”
Another thing - the way you both commanded attention continued to attract you to one another. Whereas Luke’s passion thoroughly radiated like sunlight, your passion was more subtle. Luke blazed so bright, it was almost blinding. However, your passion was hidden in your eyes, constantly simmering, providing a warm hearth for those that you loved. You were silently confident - never an air of arrogance. Your thoughtful demeanor always gave way to both kindness and protectiveness. Although you weren’t as artistically inclined, your fierce loyalty and love for your loved ones always warmed Luke’s heart. You were his biggest supporter and protector, as evidenced by your current predicament.
“I wish I could say I enjoyed that, but then I would be lying,” Carrie, the Dirty Candy lead singer and Julie’s ex-friend snidely comments.
Julie and the Phantoms just finished another successful set at a local gig. It was relatively small theater that was hosting a series of local bands. The crowd was consistently in good spirits with every band, Julie and the Phantoms not excluded from the rowdy joyfulness. All four members bounded off the stage breathless and absolutely ecstatic over the crowd’s energy. You and Flynn excitedly met them side stage, jumping excitedly for their friends. Julie barrels down Flynn with a hug while Luke twirls his girlfriend around. Alex and Reggie let out loud cheers, trying to let off some steam from their performance. Luke just finished taking your breath away with a passionate kiss when Carrie distracts the group with her rude remark.
“You know what Carrie? Why don’t you take your little Barbie dolls and bother someone else,” Julie shoots back, waving off the girl group before crossing her arms. Flynn rested a hand on her hip and popped it out with a noise of agreement. The boys stood behind the girls, slowly coming down from their adrenaline high as they witness another showdown between the ex-friends.
Carrie scoffs and rolls her eyes before mimicking Julie’s stance. “So, who did you have to bribe to get a gig here? There’s no way you made it on the setlist without help.” She tilts her head, mocking feign interest. You roll your eyes and steps up next to Julie.
“That’s rich coming from you.” Your eyes blaze as you stare down the blonde singer.
“Excuse me?” Carrie’s shocked expression is mirrored by your own group of friends. You never confronted people, perfectly content in watching your friends handle any situations, especially with Carrie. You were more about deescalating arguments and settling for calm conversation. But this time, well, you were pissed. Too many times has the blonde ruined band celebrations - frankly, you were fed up with the bitch.
“I know it’s hard to see people more successful than you, so why don’t you focus energy on working on your group rather than hilariously embarrassing yourself in front of someone else’s,” you fire back with a controlled voice. With a smile, you say, “Now, please fuck off somewhere else with your fucking bubblegum pop music.”
Carrie scoffs, but doesn’t argue back. Instead, she turns her chin up and stomps off, her cronies quickly trailing after her. You let out a breath and turn to your friends to see them all looking at you with a mixture of shocked and impressed looks. Your confrontation was out of character and none of them have ever heard you truly swear at someone.
“Okay, Y/N, I see you!” Flynn nods in approval. You roll your eyes and throw your arms around your female friends, biting your lip at all the attention.
“Where did that come from Y/L/N?” Alex asked, awe dripping from his voice.
“I’ve just had enough of Carrie always ruining our excitement after your shows. Girl had it coming.” You shrug your shoulders.
“Besides, I learned from the best.” You squeeze your friends’ shoulder who cheer with pride. You avoid your boyfriend’s eyes, afraid of what he’ll say about your behavior.
“Honestly, if Luke isn’t turned on right now, I would be shocked.” Reggie lets out a shout of protest as Alex smacks him upside the head. You finally peak at your boyfriend who had a triumphant smirk and smoldering eyes that pierced your own.
“Shut up Reg. Now, let’s go celebrate another successful show!” Julie offers. You all cheer and gather our stuff.
Already forgetting about the rude performer, your group’s mood was back up as the band chattered about their favorite parts of the performance. Your group had taken two cars to the venue. Alex’s car hauled the people while Luke’s car carried all the big equipment and you. When you and Luke separated from the rest of the crew, he threw his arm around you. He laughs at your scrunched up nose, clear disgust written on your face as you feel his drenched shirt and sticky arm. You sigh and hold the hand hanging off your shoulder.
“You were on fire tonight baby.” Your eyes twinkle with pride. He grins at your compliment, always appreciating your honest praise.
“Thanks babe. I could say the same to you miss ‘please fuck off’,” Luke’s amused smirk disappears as you get in the car.
“Like I said, girl had it coming. She’s always dishing it out, it was my turn to put her in her place,” you huff as you settle in the passenger seat. Luke chuckles at your behavior, not used to seeing you so disgruntled. It was adorable.
“Well, you can put me in my place any day honey because that was hot.” You blush, not missing the innuendo in his comment.
“So Reggie was right?” You rest your forearm on the console, leaning forward as you tease the boy in the driver seat.
“Hell yeah he was.” Luke mimicked your stance and reaches forward.
He lightly touching your chin, taking the time to admire your face. He had always seen and admired your tenacity. But when you stood up to Carrie, he couldn’t be more proud (or hot and bothered). Hearing the bite in your voice heated him up from the inside, and he wanted to see if he could bring it out of you again.
He grabs your chin and guides your head in the direction he wanted, tilting it so that his mouth could perfectly fit yours. As your lips met, you already knew that your friends would make fun of you two by the time you met up with them with how much you pushed and pulled at each other’s lips. The fingers gripping your chin spread out and gently cradle your face as the kiss becomes more passionate with every second. You rest your hand on his shoulder, trying to ground yourself - not to reality, but to him. Your thumb rests over his pulse point, feeling the rapid drumming that surely mimicked your own.
He swipes his tongue against your bottom lip, prompting you to open your mouth. He quickly dominated it and tangles your tongue with his. He stole your breath away, making you take a breath through your nose and smell his cologne. Luke cups his hand around the back of your neck and pulls you closer across the console, which makes you moan at his movements. When you bite his bottom lip in response, he pulls away just a little to let out a shaky breath, jaw slack with lust.
“Fuck, Y/N,” Luke whispers, his pupils were blown wide. His heart pounded in his ears while he watches you send a sultry smirk his way.
“You kiss your mother with that mouth?” I tease, caressing his cheek.
“No, I kiss you with it. Maybe my dirty mouth might be starting to influence you a little,” he says, referring to your profanity from earlier.
His low voice and quick glance at your bruised lips makes your thighs clench for relief. You tug at the hair on the back of his neck, making his breath hitch and his eyes meet yours.
“Honey, I was always like this, you’re just always on my good side.” He brings up his other hand and moves some hair out of your face before dropping it to your waist and gripping you tightly. Luke pulls you in closer with a mischievous smirk.
“Well, let’s get on your bad side and see what other words you know.”
Well, damn.

A/N: yeah idk what that was. Sorry if it was a little choppy - wrote this real fast. Girl really said talk shit, get hit, bitch - badass Y/N right there! Anyways, I’m back and ready to start writing again. I hope y’all have a very lovely week - Titi xx

Best Friends Who Kiss? - Luke Patterson x Reader
“Can you make one where I’m best friends with Luke and everyone else (But little does Luke know I actually love him, everyone else can see it, but him.) I’ve liked him almost all my life...”
(This is the least amount of dialogue I’ve written in awhile, but with the way that it was requested, this style just felt right. let me know if you hate this style?)
Tumblr media
It started out at recess in 2nd grade. She sat on the swings alone when he approached her, sitting in the adjacent seat. She looked up and smiled at him, and he, toothless and all, introduced himself to her.
“I’m Luke.”
After that, she was there through all of his fights with his mom, all of the ego-driven fights he had with Bobby over creative rights to their band's music, and the heartbreak over girls she barely knew. He was there through for her through all the trauma that came with her dad’s anger issues, her lackluster love life stories, and her frustration stemming from her art and her lack of confidence.
The rest was history. Quite literally after the accident. There was one thing that was for certain, that Y/N’s feelings for Luke stayed the same in life and death. His were a little less clear. After entering the world of 2020, they met Julie and she saw a spark in him that she had missed, even when he was playing with Bobby and the boys.
Luke started playing the guitar and singing back up vocals for Julie with the band, and the fire in his eyes was rekindled. Sometimes she sat in on rehearsals, but most of the time Luke was so preoccupied he didn’t even really speak to her the entire time she was there.
She started leaving a little earlier every day before rehearsal ended, making her way back to the park where they met in hopes that he’d join her. He never did, but she’d sit in the swing for a while and think about him and different moments between them.
Like the time when they were 11 and they were riding bikes when Luke fell and broke his arm in two places. She remembered him pointing to her in the emergency room and demanding that she was in the room with him, otherwise, he wouldn’t go in. He got his way and she sat next to him for hours during the stay.
Or when they were 14 and Luke had his first real date that ended in disaster. He showed up on her front porch that night because he just “wanted to hear her voice” and tell her all about the tragic events. That was the night that he told her that he didn’t think anyone would ever get him the way she did. She remembered her heart fluttering at those words.
Nothing ever happened between them though, and she was convinced now that even when her emotions got the best of her, Luke’s feelings were always platonic. She watched him sway and sing with Julie with this look of admiration she hadn’t ever seen before. Their voices and energies blending so seamlessly. Julie was so kind she couldn’t even find it in her heart to get angry at her. After they visited the nightclub the day of Julie’s performance she was certain that she had to make a decision. Caleb had an offer that wouldn’t be perfect, but it would be better than wallowing in self-pity every single day and masquerading as a part of a group that didn’t even recognize when she left.
She knew the boys could fight it, but she wasn’t even sure she wanted to at this point. So tonight, she was going to do it. She was going to meet up with Caleb and accept his offer.
She grabbed her coat that was left behind in the garage when she saw one of Luke’s old flannels spread out on the couch. She grabbed it, placing it over her body before putting on her jacket. She looked around the room once more before poofing out the of the room.
The boys reentered the space after a late-night exploring, hyped on adrenaline. He spun around, looking for a nightlight or a slight lull of music that would let him know that Y/N was home. When he saw neither he began to pace around the room.
Alex stopped him in his tracks, looking at him with wide eyes “Woah, Luke chill what is going on?”
He looked up at his friend with tears raising in his eyes “Where is Y/N, you don’t think she went back to talk to Caleb, do you?”
Alex shook his head, squeezing his bandmate’s shoulders “Breath, we have no clue if that’s where she went, let’s not go all doomsday before we think about our options.
Luke nodded, trying to swallow with the knot in his throat. “She loves the beach…but it scares her to be alone there at night, even as a ghost.” He thought about it some more “She loves that record shop on 3rd…but she….wait.”
He stopped and looked at all of his friends in the dim light that sent a spotlight into the center of the room. “You guys stay here, I think I know where she is.” He left the room in a snap, transporting himself to a familiar swingset. There she sat on the swing, twirling the chains above her until she let them go and spun around quickly. A light smile fell onto her face but fell quickly as she landed at a standstill.
He was slow in his movements, inching quietly into the woodchips and sitting down without making a sound. She heard the jingling of the chains next to her and looked over panicked.
“Hey,” he said quietly, watching her face settle as her eyes met his
“Hi,” She gave him a weak smile before diverting her gaze to the stars.
“Please tell me that you’re here nostalgia's sake and not because you’re thinking about what I think you are…” He started, pumping his legs back and forth to bring himself into the air.
“I…I don’t know.”
He slowed, slamming his feet to the ground before facing her “You’re really just going to up and leave me, after all these years? You didn’t think I deserved an explanation? At least a goodbye? Y/N, I thought we knew each other better than that”
She sighed, leaning against the cold metal as she let tears softly fall down her cheeks. She finally makes eye contact with him again, shaking her head at him.
“Like you’d even notice I was gone, Luke.”
He was silent.
“Don’t get me wrong, I really like Julie and I think that she has made you a better musician… but you’ve replaced me and don’t even try to deny it. Reggie and Alex even forget that I live in the garage too half of the time. I’m like a ghost among ghosts, who even knew that was possible?!”
Her eyes fixed on the ground below her, she wanted to hear what he had to say. As he took a breath in, she shrunk a bit waiting for the worst.
“I….had no idea that you felt that way. I am, such an idiot. I haven’t even bothered to check in on you recently. Y/N I am so sorry.” She could hear his voice breaking and didn’t even need to look up to know that he was crying.
“It’s okay.”
He scoffed “Obviously it’s not fine when my best friend decides that disappearing into the night is a better option than being around me.”
She looked back up at him, shaking her head “That’s not what I meant Luke.” He stood up and walked over to her swing, standing in front of her. He leaned forward, inches away from her face. She felt her heart race at the proximity and the look in his eyes.
“Remember that night that I told you that you’re the only one who gets me?” She nodded, holding his gaze. “I meant that.”
She let the left side of her mouth raise a bit into a half-smile. Looking into his glossy eyes she got lost in so many times before, she didn’t know what to say. He didn’t wait for her to respond before continuing “I’m sorry I made you feel less than the most important person in my life because you are.”
She tried to speak but stopped her “Let me finish,” She nodded, letting him go on.
“I care about you so much, Y/N, and the fact that you even had to consider if that was true…it…” His voice shook a little as he took a breath in “It hurts a lot more than I could have ever expected.”
He got down on both knees in front of her to get at eye level. She bit down on her bottom lip as she looked at him, backlit by the moonlight and the street-lamps.
“I love you, Y/N.”
She wiped her tears onto her sleeve before responding “I love you too, Luke” He grinned at her, grabbing her cheeks into his hands and leaning in to kiss her lips. The kiss was soft and sweet and short, but it was enough to make her feel like it was a summer day on this cold autumn night. When they pulled away, he leaned his forehead against hers.
“Please come home with me, please stay.”
She looked into his eyes, feeling his thumbs rub her cheeks ever so slightly. She nodded. He smiled through his tears, standing up and extended his hand toward her. She took it and rose to meet him. They interlocked their hands and walked the long way home.

Could I request one where the reader comes from a rich family and her parents disapprove of Luke, since they see him as a punk. They don’t think he fits into their social class status, so the reader breaks the rules with Luke and even ditches with him to like make out or something? 😂👀👉👈
Tumblr media
                                    Status- Alive!Luke x Reader
A/N: IT DOES HAVE A LITTLE MOMENT AT THE END SO HEADS UP!! I REALLY HOPE YOU ENJOY.
REQUESTS ARE OPEN.
Your parents never approved of any of your boyfriends in the past, and Luke was just another one. They felt he was a bad influence and that he was going to lead you down a path their 17-year-old daughter shouldn’t be on. But no matter what was said, you stood your ground. Luke was the love of your life, and you knew that deep inside of you. No measure of money was going to change your feelings. He was everything to you.
But no matter how many compelling conversations you had with your parents; they still saw him as punk. A boy who was unable to care for the daughter with the level of care they expected. They were so prejudice because of their social status; they didn’t want him to be involved with you.
You had gotten into more trouble recently, grades slipping and even egging someone’s house. You were a teen and for once, you wanted to act like one. Without your parents trying to reprimand you for every tiny thing. You knew where the balance was in your family, and it was clear Luke would never fit into the fold, which is why you were fighting with your dad again.
“Dad you are being ridiculous, Luke is a great guy. All you see is the fact he’s in a band and trying to make his dream come true. His decisions in life don’t change my life choices. For once, I just want to act like a teenager without you picking me apart.” You fought back, trying to prove a point to your father, he was so caught up in Luke’s choice of career and lack of money he didn’t see how happy his daughter was.
“Y/n, you are acting like a child. My opinion has nothing to do with you, but Luke is a punk. You are my daughter, and you deserve more in life than a washed-up musician who is going to begging on the street corner.” Your father screamed back at you, in all the time you had been with Luke, he never once raised his voice at you until this conversation.
You knew he was going to be anger, you wanted to take a year off after high school, not only for Luke but for you. A moment in time to focus on yourself and what path you wanted to take in life. But your dad did not approve, he felt taking a year off would just lead to more excuses. Swearing up and down that it was Luke’s idea and not yours.
The tears ran down your face as you tried to find the words, “No amount of money matters to me, Luke is what matters. My life will always be intertwined in his, no matter what his status is. I love him daddy, and if you can’t see that, then god I pity you. You wouldn’t know what love is if it smacked you in the face”
With that you took off running up the stairs in your home, trying to escape the anger boiling over in your father. He was angry and it was understandable, but you were his daughter, and he should care about your feelings too.
You slammed your bedroom door behind you, locking it swiftly. You didn’t want to be here any longer, you wanted to be with Luke. He was the only one who understood you, the money never mattered to you, even as rich as your family was. You swiftly unlocked your window, sliding down the roof and onto the patio, if he wasn’t aloud to come to you. You were going to go to him in a heartbeat.
Swiftly jogging down the street, you made you way to the Molina’s. More specifically you were looking for Luke in the garage, he had been crashing there for weeks after the fight with his parents. You swung the doors open and found the band rehearsing, when Luke saw you standing there with puffy eyes. He immediately took off his guitar, taking you into his arms. He knew things were getting rough at home, but he never thought it was this bad.
“Baby, what happened? Why are you crying?” he questioned, taking your face in between his calloused hands. You were sniffling, trying to contain yourself. Being angry was always the worse shade of your personality and you didn’t want to take it out on Luke.
You looked deep into his eyes, trying to find the words, “Luke… I-I I just.” You were struggling to find the perfect words. You knew it was going to crush him when you told him your parents’ opinion of him.
Taking a deep breath, you began again, “I snuck out after we got into a huge fight and my dad, he thinks you are a punk. He thinks you are going to ruin my chances of getting into a good school and expanding my future. He is so caught up in his world, to even consider how I am feeling for once in his selfish life. God, he is so caught up with money and status, that he doesn’t care what I want in my life. Because I want you Luke, the good and the bad. No matter how far you go or how much money you make, I just want to be with you.” The words finally flying out of you. Luke was just nodding along, letting you express everything you were feeling in that moment.
Luke pulled you close to him as you finished, he just sighed. He was going to give you the world and he knew that. He knew he was going to sell out shows, but most of all he knew he was going to make you proud. Sadly, your father who couldn’t find the stick shoved so far up his ass didn’t know that reality yet. As Luke knew he was going to marry you one day and support you no matter what your dreams were. He was your equal and no amount of money was going to change that.
You sighed, wrapping your arms around his neck, “Luke, you are worth so much more than any amount of money. I love you for you, and that is what matters to me”
Swiftly you pressed your lips to his, the electricity surging through the both of you. It felt so right, it always had between you. He carefully picked you up, wrapping your legs around his waist. He sat down on the couch, with you straddling his hips and he gripped your hips tightly. You knew he was going to leave bruises on your hips, he always did when he was passionate about something.
You continued kissing, the butterflies pooling in your stomach as you became overcome with passion. He was the one for you, he was always going to be the one you wanted in life. You pulled away, resting your hands in his hair, this was a normal position for you.
“Luke, when I say I love you. I mean that, I know in my heart that I am going to marry you one day. I don’t care what my dad has to say about it. You, Luke Patterson are the one for me” You said softly, as you watched the red blush cross his cheeks
“Well you should know that I love you too, more than the music running through me. I am going to marry you one day, I knew that the moment I met you. As for you dad, he’s going to have to get used to the idea of a punk being his son-in-law” Luke said with his signature smirk embedded on his lips.
You knew in that moment; Luke was yours no matter what any status said.

@issaxcharlie I didn't expected this to be anything but great and was still impressed at how good this was. So firstly the relationship between Charlie and y/n is so precious I want whatever it is they have 😍
The bickering between Owen and y/n is pure gold...
And now onto my favourite line: 'Of course, there are easier ways but we are talking about Charlie.'
Owen hosts Couple tag
Pairing: Charlie Gillespie x Artist Fem Reader
Summary: We play pretend world guys✨ (I missed them, I’m SoRryyyy.) So, Charlie wants some reassurance after starting to prepare his proposal to Y/N and makes this “genius” plan with Owen to find her answers without being suspicious. (She totally knows tho) also a lot of friendship fighting between Owen and Y/N because I had to, I made myself laugh a lot so I’ll hope at least makes you smile🤧🤣Anyways, have fun!
This is also my weird and nonsense way of doing sweet @marvel-ousnesss request of the we play pretend couple to do a couple buzzfeed quiz 💖

MASTERLIST
“I can’t believe you did that to them, Dad,” you shout. “Why can’t you just listen to them when they tell you they already have a band?” You just found out that your father, Caleb Covington, used his stamp on the Sunset Curve boys because they refused his offer.
Your father sips out of his mug and says, “You know the reason, my darling. They’re just too powerful.”
With a groan, you say, “Sometimes, I really don’t like you.”
After finishing his mug of whatever he was drinking, your father says, “You’re stuck with me for eternity, my daughter. You better get around to liking me.” He poofs out of your room in the Hollywood Ghost Club and you grab your jacket.
You’ve made it your mission to go and tell Luke and his bandmates what’s going to happen to them since your father used his stamp on them. Maybe they can figure out what their unfinished business is and they can cross over.
So you poof out of the Hollywood Ghost Club and to the studio where your crush and his bandmates practice. You peep inside and don’t see Luke. A sigh of defeat passes your lips and you step back. You think about where they could be, or at least where Luke would be.
You poof to South Broadway, in front of the Orpheum. You find Willie, your best friend, talking to Luke, Alex, and Reggie. Luke looks behind Willie at you. He has a look of anger on his face and he walks around Willie to get to you.
“What the hell, Y/N?” Luke says, approaching you. “You let Caleb just stamp us?”
Immediately, you say, “I’m sorry, Luke. I didn’t know that he would use the stamp on you. I never wanted him to.”
Luke looks at you and he says, “The guys and I love our band with Julie, and Caleb just took that away from us. We either have to join his band, cross over, or get destroyed by these jolt things.”
Quickly, you reach out and try to touch Luke. He backs away from you and your face falls. “Luke, please,” you beg. “I never wanted this. I’ve seen how happy you are with Julie and the band. I never wanted that to be taken away from you guys. I tried to talk him down but he wasn’t having it. Okay?”
He says, “I just met you a few weeks ago. How am I supposed to believe that?”
“Because in the eighty or so years that I’ve been a ghost, I’ve never met anyone like you, Luke,” you say, staring up at the guy in front of you. “I always kept to myself until Willie introduced me to you. I was scared to talk to anyone just for this reason. Until I met you. My father is insanely powerful and I can’t do anything to stop him.”
Luke’s face softens and he says, “All we wanted was to get revenge on our bandmate for what he did to us and now we’re cursed.”
Your voice drops to a whisper and you say, “I’m sorry, Luke. I really am. I wish he wasn’t like this.” You look down at your feet.
Both of you are quiet before Luke sighs, reaching out and holding your hand. You look at your connected hands and you finally look up at him. “I’m sorry I blamed you, Y/N,” he says. “I’m just frustrated that these are my only options. I know that this isn’t your fault and that you don’t have control over what he does.”
“I don’t know what I can do, Luke,” you admit. “I just wish that you had never met him, or me or even Willie because it was us that got you into this.”
Luke shakes his head and says, “I wouldn’t take back meeting you. Meeting you has been one of my favorite things that’s happened to me since I became a ghost.”
You say, “But you’re cursed and you’ll die all over again.”
He takes a step closer to you and he says, “I’ll die over and over again if it meant meeting you.”
There’s a whoosh noise and you look to your right, knowing who’s standing there. Luke looks over at your father and the guys run up to the two of you.
Your father looks between you and Luke before he says, “Hm, it seems like I’ve interrupted something here.”
“What do you want?” you spit at him. “You’ve done enough, Dad.”
The only people here that knew he was your father were Willie and Luke. Alex and Reggie didn’t know, but now they do. It’s not a big deal that they know but how to you tell new friends that your father is the owner of the most famous ghost clubs and one of the most powerful ghosts?
Luke confidently stands at your side, looking up at your father as he says, “That’s not how you speak to me, young lady. I thought you learned your lesson.”
You say, “You don’t own me. You can’t control me. None of your powers work on me because I’m your blood. You can’t own my soul. I have no consequences when it comes to speaking to you in a certain way or how I act.”
Your father says, “You don’t have any consequences, Y/N.” He waves his hands and a jolt hits the Sunset Curve boys. Luke lets go of your hand as he stumbles back. You look at him with worry all over your face before spinning back to your father. “But they do. Now, boys, let me make my offer again. You can join my house band and these jolts will simply just stop. Alex, you’ll always be able to see Willie. Luke, you’ll be able to see Y/N whenever you’d like. If you’re destroyed or you cross over, you won’t get any of that.”
“We’re never joining your house band,” Luke says through his teeth. You turn your head and look at the musician. His eyes flicker to you before returning to your father.
He says, “Have it your way.” Your father waves his hand again and there’s another jolt that hits the guys. All three grunt. Willie has his hand on Alex’s shoulder and you run over to Luke, whose back is pressed against the wall of the building. You lace your fingers with Luke’s as your father poofs away.
You look up at Luke and you say, “You have to cross over, Luke. Soon.”
Luke says, “I don’t know how to do that.”
Willie chimes in and says, “You have to do your unfinished business. It’s why you came back as ghosts.”
Alex, Reggie, and Luke all look at each other before Luke says, “i guess we have to play the show that we never got to play then.”
They need to play the Orpheum.
***
You and Willie help Luke and his band get booked at the Orpheum the next day. Willie drives the bus of Panic! At The Disco’s opening act out into the desert over 200 miles away. The two of you poof to the boys, who stand right outside the venue. Just as you both poof to the guys, they get hit with a jolt. You walk up to Luke and ask, “You okay?”
“Nothing I haven’t felt before,” Luke says, shrugging. “Um, can I talk to you for a second?”
After nodding, you and Luke walk away. The two of you stand in the alleyway beside the Orpheum. You look up at Luke and he sighs. “I’ve never felt anything for anyone before you. I’m not just saying this because I’m either about to cross over or get destroyed by the jolts,” he admits to you. “I just, I don’t have many regrets and I’d definitely regret it if I didn’t tell you that I really like you.”
Your eyes widen and you say, “Luke, I-”
Luke says, “I have everything to lose, Y/N. You, my band, everything. I’d rather have you and Julie sleep peacefully knowing that I crossed over instead of getting destroyed.”
You can see the tears in his eyes and you say, “I wish I could do something, Luke. I wish that this wasn’t the end of us, even though there never really was an ‘us’ to begin with. I wanted an us.”
He sniffles and you reach up, brushing his hair off his forehead before he says, “I wanted an us too.”
Luke cups your face in his hands and you look up at him. He leans down and presses a light kiss to your lips. You sigh and slowly kiss him back. Your eyes are screwed shut and a few tears escape, falling down your cheeks and wetting them.
After a second, Luke pulls back and looks down at you. “If, by some miracle, I survive this. If something happens and we don’t cross over and I don’t get destroyed by the jolts, I’ll meet you here at midnight,” he says. You nod and stare up at him.
You lean up and peck his lips before Luke walks off. You lean against the wall of the Orpheum and sigh, closing your eyes.
You hate your father for taking away the only guy you’ve ever liked since you became a ghost. Luke would never leave his band with Julie to join your father’s band, and you respect that.
Later that night, you’re back in the same spot. You were able to sneak into the Orpheum to see Luke’s performance with his band. He looked handsome in his suit with no sleeves and messy hair as he played his guitar. You lean your head back and close your eyes.
Minutes tick by. It’s close to 12:30 now. He either crossed over or he didn’t make it.
Soft sobs begin to leave your lips as you let it sink in that you’ll never see Luke again.
There’s a whooshing sound and you assume that it’s your father so you don’t look. Someone walks toward you and you feel someone wipe away your tears. Your eyes flutter open and you’re met with Luke’s pretty hazel eyes. You gasp softly and throw your arms around Luke.
“You made it,” you whisper.
Luke chuckles and says, “I made it. I’m okay. I don’t know how but the curse is gone.”
You pull back just enough to meet Luke’s eyes. “You did amazing tonight, by the way,” you tell him. “I was able to sneak in.”
He smiles and says, “The suit is thanks to your father. I lost the sleeves in the poof.”
“I don’t mind,” you admit. “I like the no sleeves. Definitely shows off your muscles.” You run your fingers up and down his biceps to prove your point.
Luke laughs and says, “You love my arms. Noted.”
You smile and say, “I also love your kisses.”
“We’ve only kissed once, Y/N,” Luke tells you. You lean your head up.
“It’s time to change that, Luke,” you say. With a little laugh, Luke leans down and kisses you again. The kiss is a little rougher than the kiss you shared with him earlier in the day. Both of you are more hungry for each other because neither of you thought that you’d be standing here with him.
Maybe because the curse is gone, you’d get to have the relationship you want with Luke. Maybe this is the guy you can spend your ghostly years with. You almost lost him, and you’ve promise yourself that you’d never let him go again.
