Mushy May 2k24
(Thanks to @forlorn-crows for once again organizing this, I'm smooching u ♡)
Day 1: Cuteness Aggression
Rating: G
Pairing: Mountain/Rain
Word Count: idk not many I wrote this on mobile lmao
~☆~☆~☆~☆~☆~
"Rain?" Mountain raps two knuckles against the other ghoul's bedroom door. "Rain, are you up?"
Mountain scuffs a slippered foot against the stone floor while he waits for a response, watching dust motes catch in the morning light. When Rain doesn't answer, he shifts the tray balanced on his free arm closer to his elbow, careful not to jostle its contents when he reaches for the handle.
"Don't know why I bother," Mountain sighs to himself, nudging the door open with his hip. "You could sleep through the end of the world if we let you."
Despite his grumbling, Mountain still makes sure the door closes as silently as possible. Plunges himself into relative darkness when the latch clicks, thanks to the blackout curtains covering Rain's windows. Mountain blinks to adjust while he sets the tray down on Rain's cluttered desk, covering up a quick yawn.
"Rain?" He tries again, quieter than he was on the other side of the door. Tiptoeing closer to the massive four-post bed between the windows and the pile of blankets it holds. The pile that's emitting soft snores Mountain can just make out over the artificial thunderstorm coming from Rain's white noise machine. He ducks down when he reaches the far side of the mattress, peering into the pile of deep blue bedding. "You awake, angelfish?"
It's useless, gets him nothing but a half-snort, but from where he's standing now he can see -
"Well this is just unfair."
Rain's got himself wrapped in who knows how many plush blankets, no part of him visible save for that lovely face and a few stray curls that have fallen over his forehead. He's curled up on his side, the covers drawn up around his ears and soft lips parted just enough for Mountain to catch a glimpse of crowded fangs. He's drooling a little too, just enough to stain his pillowcase. There's a plush shark bundled up with him, its nose smushed up against Rain's pointed chin, and the whole picture is so adorably enchanting that Mountain can't contain himself.
He starts with little touches - those few exposed curls, the cool skin of his forehead, the slope of his nose - and Rain rewards him with little twitches that do nothing to help the warm fullness in his chest. Mountain simply has to pinch his cheek. There's no other way.
"Gngh," Rain gurgles, burying his face in his shark and cracking one eye open just enough to see who could have possibly disturbed his slumber. "Mou'n?"
The way his voice is muffled by the stuffed animal is the last straw; Mountain's around the bed in half a breath, kicking off his slippers and crawling in to spoon up against the smaller ghoul with a purr in his chest. He sneaks a long arm under the blanket mound until he finds a bony hip, and then he's grabbing onto that narrow waist with greedy fingers.
"Morning, sleepyhead," he greets as Rain squeaks, nuzzling the back of his neck through the blankets. The other ghoul groans his protest, but doesn't move a muscle otherwise. Simply lets Mountain more or less manhandle him closer to his chest, still snuggled up in his cocoon.
"Hate mornings," Rain complains, unconsciously pawing around for Mountain's hand under the blankets. Dragging it up so they can both hug that oversized shark. Mountain grins so wide his cheeks hurt. "Why'd you make me wake up?"
"Brought you breakfast." Mountain gets his teeth into the duvet covering Rain's head and tugs it down far enough to be able to nose at the one tender spot behind his ear. "I made crepes."
Rain hums a low mmm and Mountain feels the scaly end of Rain's tail wrap itself around his calf. He chuckles to himself, nipping at the other ghoul's pointed ear.
"But you look so sweet," he mumbles, thumb brushing up under Rain's sleep shirt, "I might just have to eat you instead."
Mountain buries his face in Rain's throat, blows the world's loudest raspberry, and the sound Rain makes is almost as cute as he is.

Mushy May Day 10- quiet nights
Aethers overwhelmed in the infirmary. Omega and delta calm him down.
Thanks to @forlorn-crows for the prompts this month!
Tumblr media
Aethers eyes stung.
He stared at the speckled white countertop while delta whizzed past him once again to check someone’s beeping iv. His head felt fuzzy, his vision felt far away. A pressure behind his eyes he could only hope wasn’t any real tears, just exhaustion. The sterility of the air made his stomach turn, an absent thought granted to wonder when the last time he ate was.
“Hey, are you doing alright?”
A large hand rested on aethers back. Omegas voice was comforting, almost too much so. Enough that the pressure behind aethers eyes only deepened as he attempted to blink away whatever tears were forming. It shouldn’t be overwhelming, just the knowledge that omega recognized his emotions and cared, but aether can barely speak beyond the handful of napkins that felt wadded in his throat to express that he was ok.
The silence was enough for omega. He remembers his first couple months topside. Always either touring, practicing, or attempting to tend to any sick or wounded siblings. A constant rotation of activity and need. Delta also barely held it together as well when he was first thrown into the rotation of being a quint, mostly being sent down to help in the morgue. Hes always been better with them anyways.
But staff was short, and something was going around the abbey. It was just a couple minutes past midnight before they all had even gotten the chance to breathe. Aether felt as if he was holding constant pressure on a wound. Enough attention and force to hold the blood in, until it eventually stopped. The moment to calm down leaving it to bleed freely.
The beeping from down the hall stopped. Silence fell over the wing as static rushed to fill the space in aethers head.
“Just take a second aether, sit down” omega pulled out a chair and lightly pushed on his shoulder to get him to sit. Aether played with his hands nervously in his lap. He feels like he had forgotten something, like there was a mistake he missed, like there had to be something else to do.
Delta soon walked back to take his own seat in the nurses station, giving omega a concerned look over aether state.
“Jellyfish, can you grab aether some water?” Omega said quietly over his shoulder “and maybe one of the expired granola bars”
“I’m fine omega” aether finally spoke, looking up at the older ghoul. “Just a long night, I can handle it”
“It’s ok if you can’t”
Omega pulled up another chair into their little triangle when delta handed him the small snacks. It was a nice peaceful moment between them, omega wondered how many times they’d been able to sit together without it being band or work related.
“You haven’t drank any water in 5 hours. You’re upset because you’re dehydrated and hungry” delta mentioned matter of factly. Aether had to snort at the bluntness, taking a small swig of his water.
“Again, I’ll be ok. I’ll get used to it, a lot happened tonight but it’s fine” the granola bar made him cringe. The spoiled plastic taste on his tongue making him take another larger drink of water. He would have to tell papa later they needed a better supply of food back here, though he’s sure the others have mentioned it.
“Even delta still can’t handle it aeth, that’s why we banish him to the morgue. So we definitely don’t expect you to be ok with everything so soon” omega joked, sending a lighthearted smile to delta.
“I thought they sent delta to the morgue because he made the siblings uncomfortable?”
“They did” delta said
They couldn’t help but all giggle with each other, half a joke and half a truth, but delta never minded.
“You’re doing great, kid, just know that. I’m proud to have you here with us. Besides, the siblings love you”
“They do?” Aether asked
“Yeah, one earlier said that she wanted you to take her temperature with your-“
“Delta” omega warned

Mushy May, day 1. Cuteness aggression
Rating: Everyone
Words: 1,133
Summary: Dew gets fit for his new uniform with the other water ghouls, and Mist couldn't be more proud of him.
Water ghoul bonding time.
Many thanks to @forlorn-crows for organizing mushy may :^)
“You need to stop wriggling around or you’re going to keep getting pricked,” River warned through clenched teeth, the thin silver pins held between them bobbing as he spoke.
Dew frowned at his reflection in the mirror and then found River's dark gaze staring back at him. His eyes narrowed when Dew dared to heave his shoulders in a sigh, giving the charcoal fabric a bit of a tug to pull it taut around his skinny frame. He wanted to throw his head back and groan, air his frustrations, but knew better than to. Especially when River was equipped with multiple sharp objects, he was dangerous enough unarmed. That didn't stop his tail from lashing to and fro, Dew could hold his tongue but not his tail it seemed.
“I've been standing here for ages, how are you not done?”
“Because I take pride in my work, thank you very much” River bit as Dew's tail knocked against his leg.
Behind him, he watched Lake move to River's side. Oddly gentle as he tucked a strand of inky hair behind River's ear before leaning in to whisper something Dew couldn't quite catch, punctuating whatever comment he'd made with a kiss pressed to his temple. It seemed to force the soured, irritated expression from River's face, and Lake shot him a half grin in the mirror.
“I get it, oh I hate having to play dress form for him too, but we'd have been done ages ago if you could just hold still a little bit. This would go sooo much faster.”
“How's the man supposed to work when you keep squirming like a tadpole?” Mist tutted at him from her place on the couch, and Dew turned to look at her.
If looks could kill.
“You're supposed to be on my side,” his voice pitched into a whine and Mist snickered into the back of her hand. “Maybe if the man hurried up I wouldn't be so restless!” He huffed, shoulders dropping once again.
A sudden sharp prick in his hip caused Dew to yelp and made his posture go rigid. He jerked away from River only to be pulled back so he could properly pin the fabric in place. He tried to hide it by ducking his face down but Dew could see that smirk. A glimpse of shiny white fangs. He hissed between his teeth, silent curses thrown at the two older water ghouls playing innocent as they continued to work.
“Oh that was on purpose you dick!”
“The last five have been on purpose, dear” River said, sort of sweetly, sort of venomous. It was always hard to tell when it came to him.
Mist turned her face away. Forced to in order to hide a proper laugh from her protege and his big sad wet eyes, lest his pout cement itself to his face - permanently sporting the look of a kicked puppy. He had an almost adorable quality to him like this, despite the fact Dew was bigger in stature than her, he looked small. The uniform, still not exactly sized to fit yet, didn't help. Too much fabric on his scrawny frame. Surrounded by two taller, bigger water ghouls, Dew looked dainty in comparison. No more than a guppy.
She remembered the day she was fit for her uniform. To say she wasn't just as restless would be a lie, but she didn't dare to fidget when Delta was the one holding sharp objects. At least he had been more time efficient than River. Mist couldn't exactly blame Dew for moving so much, it was an exciting and daunting moment for him. It had been for all of them.
Traditionally, she would have been the one to fit him for his uniform. Mentors almost always were the ones to do it, a sibling had once compared it to being a graduation of sorts. Mist would have liked to, and it was a bit of a jab at her pride that she couldn't. Her own fault, really. She just never got the hang of the whole sewing thing.
Water had popped in to be part of the moment briefly towards the start, but couldn't stay. He'd tussled Dew's hair as he gave him a once over before departing. Dew still hadn't smoothed any of that pretty silver hair back into place, River hadn't let him lift his arm long enough to do so. Delta was the only water ghoul, former water ghoul, who hadn't made an appearance which stung ever so slightly. More likely than not, Delta was lending himself to Omega. Assisting in Aether's tailoring. At least she hoped that's where he was. He'd been drifting aimlessly a lot more these last few weeks.
Her smile faltered at the thought, and Dew tipped his head to question the sudden change in her expression. Mist shook her head. Silently dismissing whatever concern she'd evoked as she pushed herself to her feet, finally truly taking in the sight of him.
Her face softened, he had an awful habit of making something inside of her melt without trying, and this moment was no different. She stepped close and took his face in both hands, turning him to look at her. Dew's skin was just as cool to the touch as hers, but he felt warmer the longer she held him.
“Oh droplet, look at you,” Mist sighed fondly and his eyes flicked away. He was awful at holding eye contact when he got flustered. “All grown up and about to be on your own.”
“Mist-” Dew mumbled, color warming his cheeks as River and Lake began to snicker.
“What? Can't I be proud of my little shark pup?” She squished his face between both hands, knocking their horns together. “Finally getting to see you through your rite of passage.”
“You're being sappy, it's gross.”
“I think I've earned being sappy!” Mist forcefully shook his head side to side with a huff, “look so handsome in your uniform I could just eat you up.”
“Mist!” He whined, pawing weakly at her. Pink spreading to the tips of his ears. “Stoooop-”
River and Lake's laughter was harder to ignore, adding to his ever growing embarrassment. Mist shot them both a glare before turning her attention back to him. Whiplash, sharp stare becoming gentle. Adoration. He clearly wanted to bury his face in his hands and let the floor open up to swallow him whole. She chuckled and pecked a little kiss to the tip of his nose, pinching one of his reddened cheeks before finally relenting.
“Fine, fine, because you hate letting me have my fun.” Mist waved him off and traded places with the other two ghouls, letting them work to get Dew safely out of the pin-filled cloth with minimal injury.

ditching chores/sneaking kisses
mushy may ; day twenty one !! (approx 3.6k words)
read under the cut or on ao3 :)
this was meant to be romantic and it just turned very, very silly jdsfhd
————— 1 —————
The first thing Rain saw when he appeared in the summoning circle was a giant. Well, okay after he’d had a few seconds to fully take him all in he was pretty sure he was just an exceptionally tall earth ghoul, but giant worked well for the moment. When the noise, smoke and chaos calmed down, slithering back through the circle and into the ether of the pits, Rain tried to stand and take stock of his surroundings. Just as he managed to haul himself up into a standing position, something in his leg buckled but before he could hit the ground he found himself caught up in a strong pair of arms.
“Careful, kid. Don’t want you injuring yourself after only being here five seconds.”
Rain rolled his eyes. “Just because you’re a giant, doesn’t mean everyone around you is a kid, earthy.”
“Oh, he’s feisty!” Someone else’s voice rang out in the small stone room; a damp looking multi ghoul wrapped in an oversized grey blanket. He must be a new summon as well. “I think I’m going to like him.” His grin was sharp and infectious, Rain smiled back. Had he already made a friend?
The earth ghoul chuckled at their exchange. “My name’s Mountain. Do you have one?”
Rain tore his eyes away from the multi to pay attention to Mountain. “Uh huh,” he nodded. “Rain.”
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Rain,” yet another voice spoke, but this one’s owner wasn’t a ghoul. His face was painted in intentional strokes of black and white, the markings around his eyes and cheeks clearly meant to resemble a skull and he was dressed entirely in liturgical vestments, his mitre bearing the mark of the Ghost Project. No way. Rain had heard whispers of a project of this nature in the Pit, nothing proven, nothing concrete; a division of the Old One’s church Up Top spreading His word through song all over the world. He hadn’t believed it at the time, it had all sounded too far fetched but… here it was.
“Papa Emeritus?”
The man—although he was a bit more than that if the rumours were true, wasn’t he—looked taken aback. “You know who I am?”
“Of course I do?” Rain was shocked that he wasn’t aware of his own fame. “In the Pit, there’s been rumours of what you’ve been doing for what feels like forever.”
Papa tutted. “Interesting… This is what Swiss told me earlier.” At Rain’s questioning head tilt he apologised. “Ah, of course! Sorry, that’s Swiss there.” He pointed to the newly summoned multi ghoul. Swiss poked a hand out of his blanket and waves, still grinning. “He was summoned only a few minutes before you were.” He continued pointing out and naming all of the ghouls in the room, there are so many more than Rain originally thought he saw, too caught up in being pulled up to a different world, he supposed.
After explaining the basics to Rain—introducing him to his new pack, laying out the exact purpose of his summoning, what his role will be if he chooses to accept it—Papa smiled and pat him on the back. “I think that’s more than enough information for now though, hmm? Mountain, how about you take Rain to get settled in and Aether, you can do the same for Swiss?”
“Sounds perfect, Papa,” Mountain smiled, squeezing Rain from where his arm is still wrapped around his shoulder; Rain was back on his feet now, but Mountain never let him go properly, presumably still worried he wouldn’t remain steady on his feet once he’d started to walk around the room.
“C’mon, Rain.” He began to wrap a blanket identical to Swiss’ around Rain’s shoulders. It was much warmer than it looked. “I’ll show you around the den and the grounds if you’re feeling up to it.”
Rain nodded. “That sounds nice, thanks, Mountain.”
Mountain smiled and Rain had just enough time to notice that one of his front teeth had a tiny chip in it. He squeezed his arm around Rain just hard enough to pull him closer to the earth ghoul and pressed a quick kiss to the top of his head. Rain blushed “Cool! Alright, we’ve got a lot to cover. We should head off now before it gets too late.”
————— 2 —————
It had been a few weeks since Rain had been summoned now and he could happily say he was settling into life at the Ministry well. He was learning the parts for his music with Dew’s help and everyone said he and Swiss—who was taking his singing and guitar lessons from Dew, Aether and Papa— were progressing nicely. He wasn’t even the newest summon anymore! Two air ghoulettes had been summoned about a week after he and Swiss and they seemed to be adjusting well too. The four of them—Rain, Swiss, Cirrus and Cumulus—had become a group of their own of sorts. It wasn’t as if they didn’t spend time with the others, of course they did, but it was nice that the four of them were able to bond over being fresh to Earth and not understanding certain human customs that had evolved since the last time they’d all been Up Top when they were human.
He’d been settling into his chores now as well. His favourite, without a doubt, was helping Mountain in the greenhouses and gardens on the Abbey’s grounds. All he had to do was water the plants and regulate the humidity, but he was able to write off a whole day just to sit and talk with Mountain while he worked. Occasionally he’d lend a hand, but more often than not, Mountain insisted that Rain need not do anything but sit there and be good company for him.
His favourite day by far had been when he’d been helping the earth ghoul to weed and mulch his flower beds. The two of them had become covered in soil, roots and mulching hay and had ended the day by running off to the lake to clean themselves off, whooping with laughter the entire time. Before they’d run off to the lake however, Mountain had reached out a hand to brush a patch of dirt off of Rain’s cheek, no doubt leaving an equally dirty smudge behind in his wake but Rain didn’t mind. Especially when what had followed the brushing off was a quick, shy peck of Mountain’s lips on his cheek. The earth ghoul had come close enough for Rain to appreciate the light dusting of freckles covering his face from all his days working in the gardens, particularly concentrated on his cheeks and the bridge of his nose. Rain wanted to christen every single one with a kiss as gentle as the one Mountain had just given his cheek but before he could do so, the earth ghoul had pulled back and with a grin.
“Race you to the lake, raindrop,” he’d called. “Last one there is on dinner duty for a week!”
————— 3 —————
The few weeks after that had passed in a whirlwind of activity. Rain was busy every single day. Between taking on a few extra duties for a week or two as a favour for Zephyr after they’d been sequestered away to the infirmary and practising all the new songs he’d learnt on his bass at every single spare moment, he was running on empty. It was no surprise to anyone but Rain when he got sick.
“You were exhausted, waterlily,” Mountain explained gently as he stirred the bowl of soup he’d brought Rain to help cool it down. “You need to give your body and your mind space to relax from all the stress you’re putting yourself under. Open up?”
“I can feed myself, Mount,” Rain protested, keeping his mouth firmly closed.
“I know you can. But I want to help, so open.”
Rain rolled his eyes playfully as he opened his mouth for Mountain to spoon the soup into, holding back a sigh of pleasure as the warm soup soothed his scratchy throat.
“You need to find something you can do that lets you relax and release the stress of the day off of your shoulders,” Mountain explained, quickly putting a finger over Rain’s lips when he opened his mouth to protest. “Eat with your mouth closed, love,” he teased. Rain didn’t like to admit the butterflies that hearing the pet name in Mountain’s voice gave him, but it felt nice. “I know you have your bass, but at the moment it’s also stressing you out. It’s understandable, of course with the tour coming up soon, you want to be the best you can be before we head off.” Curse Mountain for always somehow knowing what Rain was going to say. “But at the moment it’s only going to make you worse if you’re stressing yourself out enough that you’re getting sick and unable to practise.”
Rain opened his mouth to protest again but this time, instead of telling him to be quiet, Mountain shut him up by putting another spoon of soup in his mouth, that bastard.
“Zephyr’s back from the infirmary soon though,” he mused. “So hopefully you’ll have less work to stress you out, but,” he continued. “If Zephyr’s still not up to doing everything when you’re better, you will ask someone to help you. A load meant for two people on top of practising for the tour isn’t sustainable or healthy for you, Rain. Can you promise me that?”
Rain nodded and quickly swallowed his mouthful of soup. “I promise, Mount. And… thank you for taking care of me.”
“Always,” Mountain smiled. “Are you sure you can manage feeding yourself the soup? I’m happy to stay if you need help,” he teased.
“I think I’ll be fine, thanks,” Rain grinned. You spooned those few mouthfuls perfectly though.”
Mountain laughed. “Good to know my skills aren’t going unappreciated.” He leant down and pressed a soft kiss to Rain’s forehead. His lips were surprisingly cool against Rain’s boiling head. “Call me if you need me for anything, alright? Any time of day and I’ll come running to help.” He got up off the side of Rain’s bed and flicked his bedside lamp on, flicking the overhead light off on his way to the door. Rain hadn’t even realised how the harsh light had been affecting him until Mountain turned it off. “Get well soon, Rainy,” he smiled, closing the door on his way out.
————— 4 —————
A few days after Rain recovered from his illness, he found himself back in the greenhouses, chatting the afternoon away with Mountain. Despite his offers to help, Mountain insisted that Rain just relax and not worry.
“I asked Mist to come in this morning and help with the humidity,” he explained. “You’ve met her, right? Oh, good! Either way, it’s all sorted, Rainy. Don’t worry about anything other than giving yourself time to rest.”
Rain had just nodded, secretly pleased for this time that he could spend with Mountain, free from chores and practice and responsibilities. It was autumn now and the leaves around the Ministry were turning every possible hue of orange, yellow and red. As well as this—and arguably more exciting in Rain’s eyes—Mountain’s army of caterpillars were beginning to emerge from their chrysalides as butterflies and flutter around the greenhouses. More than once, Rain had become somewhat of a butterfly magnet, with many of them landing on him after he’d sat still for a long enough period of time.
“Have you ever heard of butterfly kisses?”
Mountain’s voice was enough to startle both Rain and the butterfly that had found a perch on his finger. “Butterfly huh?” Was all the water ghoul could manage as he caught his breath from the unexpected fright.
“Butterfly kisses,” Mountain repeated. “They’re called that because it’s supposed to feel like butterfly wings caressing your skin.”
Rain tilted his head. The earth ghoul was so much less subtle than he thought himself to be. “I don’t think I get it,” he said, knowing full well the smirk on his face gave away that he understood exactly what Mountain meant. “Can you show me?”
Mountain grinned and nodded. “Give me your arm?” Rain obliged. “All I do is bring your arm up to my face,” he explained as he mimicked his words. “Then I get my eyes really close and blink, like that.”
Rain squirmed. “Ah, no, that tickles, Mount!”
The earth ghoul pouted exaggeratedly. “Do you think it will tickle on your face?”
Rain almost snorted. “You’re really not coming across as innocent as you wish you were, Mount,” he laughed. “But sure, go ahead, butterfly boy. Kiss me.”
Mountain obliged, moving even closer to the water ghoul, letting his breath ghost over his cheeks before fluttering his eyelashes over the soft skin there. His breath was warm but it soothed the tickle of his eyelashes enough that Rain didn’t have to squirm away. Although he’s not sure that he would have moved anyway, even if it had rendered him to a tickle-avoidant mess. He treasures his time with Mountain too much.
————— 5 —————
The night before the band goes away on tour is always cause for a big celebration, Mountain told him. This year, the Ministry is hosting a grand ball complete with fancy clothes—which is apparently just another way to say formal clothes, not fancy dress like Rain had hoped—and formal dances. The ghouls and Papa are all attending together and Mountain had already promised to stay with Rain for most of the night, not that Rain needed babysitting, but Sathanas, if he had to talk to an enormous room full of people for hours on end then he needed someone with him, if only to make sure he didn’t rip someone’s throat out if they tried to engage in yet another round of small talk with him.
It’s safe to say that Rain had… well, perhaps blossomed is the right word, in the few months since he’d been summoned. He was definitely more comfortable in telling people to fuck off before he killed them, at least. After a few months of trying to play the role of a human, he was finally growing more comfortable in presenting himself as the demonic hell beast he was.
A sudden hand on his shoulder interrupted his musings and made him jump.
“Sorry, raincloud,” Mountain soothed. “It’s just me.”
“How goeth the search for drinks, my dear sir?” Rain joked, recalling Dew’s complaints that these events always felt stuffy and overly formal, like those renaissance movies he pretends to hate.
“Alas, loyal comrade,” Mountain replied, playing along. “Lady Cumulus snatched them from mine own hand whilst I was returning to you with my spoils.” He got down on one knee and threw his hands up in the air. “How will you ever forgive me?”
Rain threw his head back laughing. “I’m sure I’ll survive, Mount. Now get up off the floor, you’re going to ruin your pants and Aether’s going to yell at you if he has to sew on another knee patch for you.”
“I’ll just ask Cirrus then,” Mountain retorted, obeying Rain all the same. “I’m still in her good books.”
“Nope. I think they’re conspiring against you. Remember last time you asked her to mend something she never gave it back?” He nudged the earth ghoul with his shoulder. “I’m pretty sure the two of them are convinced that if they slowly steal your clothes over time, eventually you’ll give up on wearing them altogether.”
“I– What?” Mountain spluttered. “If they want to see me naked they could just ask.”
“Yeah but they’re freaky,” Rain stage whispered. “They wanna make it happen…”
Mountain blushed, no doubt thinking of all the ways he could make it happen more quickly. Luckily for his sake, music soon began to trickle through the mingling crowds, inviting them all to begin dancing. How the Ministry got the speaker system to work so well, Rain would never know. Maybe they had hundreds hidden all throughout the ballroom?
His train of thought was interrupted by Mountain returning to their earlier game of jest, bowing low and holding out his hand. “Lord Rain of the-bedroom-right-down-the-hallway-from-me.” Rain couldn’t help the laughter that bubbled up inside him from that. “May I please have this dance?”
He placed his hand in Mountain’s. “You may, Lord Mountain,” he smiled, thrilled when the earth ghoul bent down even further to kiss the back of his hand, stomach fluttering when he refused to break eye contact until his lips broke contact with Rain’s hand. “Come,” he announced, shifting his grip on Mountain’s hand to be able to hold it more normally. “Let us dance.”
————— + 1 —————
The tour bus is alive with energy. They’re only a few hours into their journey but all of them are buzzing with a mixture of nerves and excitement, even if all they’re doing is chatting amongst themselves quietly.
Swiss’ legs are currently thrown over Rain’s lap, the two of them gossiping quietly about their various hookups since being summoned. Rain is ninety percent sure Cumulus is listening in on their conversation but he doesn’t mind, she was the one who taught him how to do that thing with his tongue he was just explaining to Swiss.
“So…” Swiss leans in close and glances around furtively. The multi ghoul can never resist an opportunity for some dramatic flair. “When did you and Mountain hookup?”
“Me and Mount?” Rain asks, surprised. “We haven’t.”
Swiss sighs. “You don’t have to lie to me, Rainy, there’s nothing to be ashamed of. I was just telling you all the ways Dew made me cry for him, I think we’re past the point of shame, rainbow.”
“I’m telling you the truth! We haven’t…”
“Oh, but you want to.” It’s not a question, it doesn’t need to be one.
“Of course I do, have you fucking seen him?”
“Have you fucking seen his dick?” Swiss leans in close and uses his hands to measure an obscene length. There’s no way he’s telling the truth. “Fucking huge, Rainy, it’s insane.”
Rain whines. “Don’t tease me, Swiss, fuck.”
“Fine, fine,” Swiss relents. “But you’ve at least kissed right? I’ve seen the way you two look at each other, there’s no way that nothing’s happened between you.”
“I mean… kind of?” Rain replies. “We’ve kissed but not… y’know, on the lips or anything?”
Swiss’ eyes feel like they’re boring a hole into his soul. When he speaks, his voice is deadpan. “Are you fucking shitting me, Rainy.”
“No?”
Swiss looks like he’s about to scream.
Aether’s voice calls out from his game of cards with Dew. “Swiss, are you alright back there?”
“No, I’m dying, Aeth,” Swiss yells back at the same time as Rain says: “He’s fine, he’s just being a dramatic prick.”
“What’s all this about a dramatic prick?” Mountain grins as he takes a seat next to Rain.
“Mountain!” Swiss says, moving forward fast as lightning to grab the earth ghoul by the collar of his shirt. “Why the fuck haven’t you kissed Rain yet, it’s killing me, Mount. You hear me?” He shakes Mountain back and forth violently. “Kill. Ing. me.”
“I’ve kissed him,” Mountain says simply, miraculously unperturbed by the seemingly wild multi ghoul shaking him around.
Swiss pulls him even closer before releasing him. “Show me.”
Mountain sighs and looks over at Rain for permission but he’s smiling and his smile is always so infectious that Rain can’t help mimic it the second he sees it pulling at the earth ghoul’s lips.
“I’ve kissed him here,” Mountain starts, kissing the top of Rain’s head. “And here, and here,” he continues, brushing gentle kisses over Rain’s cheek and forehead in mimicry of those events that feel like they happened a lifetime ago. “Then I gave him butterfly kisses all over his face.” Rain scrunches up his eyes to combat the gentle tickling sensation that Mountain’s eyelashes are spreading across his face. “And last night I kissed his hand, like this.” This time it’s Rain who offers the hand out first, Mountain taking gladly and holding eye contact the entire time, exactly like the previous night. “But you’re right, Swiss. There is one spot I’ve missed.” He takes Rain’s face in his hands, cradling it gently in his hands. Mountain barely has to open his mouth to ask before Rain is nodding vigorously and surging forward to connect their lips together with an elated sigh.
It doesn’t take much for Mountain to deepen the kiss and pull Rain onto his lap and as soon as he does, Swiss is whooping and running up and down the length of the bus singing praises. Rain leans back to take a breather just in time to see Dew yank Swiss down to sit with him and Aether, telling him to get a hold on himself. Rain doesn’t miss the way Dew smirks when Aether presses a wad of cash into his hand, sighing in defeat.
“I think they were betting on us,” he whispers against Mountain’s lips, resting their foreheads together as they both take a breather.
“Oh, they definitely were,” the earth ghoul confirms. “I heard Cumulus and Dew negotiating terms weeks ago. Droplet may have just won that money from Aether but he’s going to have to give it all to Lus now because we kissed on the bus, not just before we left the Abbey.”
Rain laughs in disbelief. “You sly bastard,” he huffs out. “Did you wait to kiss me just so Dew wouldn’t win the bet?”
“Yep,” Mountain admits proudly. “What?” He asks when he sees Rain shaking his head and laughing. “You didn’t expect me to let Lus lose, did you?”
“Of course not, Mount,” Rain assures him. “I’m far too scared of her.”
Mountain hums in agreement. “She’s fucking terrifying, I do not need to be on her bad side. Forgive me?”
“Hmm,” Rain teases. “I’m not sure… Kiss me again and we’ll see?”

𝔐𝔲𝔰𝔥𝔶 𝔐𝔞𝔶 𝔇𝔞𝔶 24: “𝔞𝔠𝔱𝔰 𝔬𝔣 𝔣𝔯𝔦𝔢𝔫𝔡𝔰𝔥𝔦𝔭”
Pairing: Aether/mountain
Sum: earth ghouls are very emotional after being summoned
MUSHY MAY BY @forlorn-crows !!!
Tumblr media
“He’s crying again,” ifrit says
“Yeah,” Aether sighs as he moves the curtain out of his view of the window again, “He wont come inside either, even when it’s raining.”
“Well, he must come in at some point to eat, just have to wait him out.” Dewdrop says as he also looks out the window.
The newly summoned earth ghoul had been crying under the weeping willow tree for more than two days now. Earth ghouls were known to be extremely personal and protective over friends and family. Just like quintessence ghouls, they held deep bonds with things they loved. So it was a point to time they called “the weeping willow phase” of when the earth ghoul mourned the loss of both their habitat and their people.
It could be hard for them to find a new beloved, so this period would last until they bonded with their new pack mates.
“He doesn’t have to eat, remember?” Ifrit nods as he unfolds his arms, “Earth ghouls are so stubborn, they always find a way to outgrow their issues but still get so emotional.” He says as he puts a hand on aethers back, motioning that he was leaving.
After Ifrit left, Dewdrop looked up to Aether, “What are we going to do? It was easy to bond with Ivy because he didn’t like all of the ants getting on him so he stayed inside. But I’m afraid our new friend will run off.”
“I know…” Aether sighed again as his vision relaxed into the golden red sky that caressed the ministry as the sun started to fall into the mountains.
“I’m not the best at….talking….but you-“ Dewdrop thought, “I mean you were kind of made for talking to others.” The water ghoul smiled awkwardly, they weren’t the best at talking one on one as most of them were either shy or anxious if not both.
“I’ll talk to him, just tell Papa that we’re still trying before he gives up on us.” Aether chuckled at the end, he rubbed the base of his horn in frustration on the situation.
Terzo was a great leader, but he was known to grow impatient rather quickly.
“It’s getting a little chilly out here, why don’t you come inside?” Aether said softly as he walked up to the earth ghoul.
With a flinch, the whimpering ghoul peaked a teary eye out of his tucked arms from his knees. He looked at aether, not with fear, with sadness as another cry strung out of his sore throat.
A gently breeze hushed the sounds of the ministry as the long strand of vine and leaf from the willow tree blew like hair in the gentle summer breeze, Aether kneeled down beside him.
“I know it’s difficult, but you must continue.” Aether said with a frown as he placed a hand on the ghouls shoulder.
The earth ghoul was large, tall as a matter of fact and long eyelashes that collected his tears of his puffy eyes. The ghouls hair was dark, a sort of brown that shifted green highlight in the flittering light of the setting sun. Skin, a neutral green with darker pigmented spots as his veins showed through his pale skin like small vines that blended in with the moss that spread across his finger tips and around his joints. His ears pointed, many chips and cuts that covered him like a story book. His eyes were a piercingly soft purple like a cluster of amethyst. The earth ghoul curled up into a ball more as he rubbed his nose, a tear falling down the apple of his cheek.
Aether sat beside him against the hunk of the tree, “if you come inside, I will get you better clothes and you wont have to get all wet from the rain like you did last night.”
The ghoul couldn’t deny that sounded wonderful, but he couldn’t get the images of his life in the pit out of his memory. But something urged him to let a hand slowly fall from his own embrace and trail down into the dirt to pick one of the flower bulbs. He held it in his hand gently, brining it up beside Aethers face as it suddenly bloomed a white blossom that swirled with life as it paralleled the quintessential ghouls white iris.
Aether was amazed a little, his heart fluttered and ached for the sadness dripping from the ghouls aura, soiling the soil and atmosphere.
“It’s beautiful, we have plenty of plants in the greenhouse.” Aether strikes a conversation, “But tell me, why must you stay attached to this fair tree?”
He lays the flower back on the ground, the bloom quickly fading as his touch leaves the plant.
“Salix Babylonica,” the ghoul finally speaks a soft but deep whisper as he rubs a tear from his porcelain face, “Mountain is covered with them this time of year.”
“Your right, they are,” Aether smiles as he looks up the tree and it’s branches draped with green, “Mountains, like you, are very strong and steady.”
The earth ghoul shakes his head, “I was I was like a mountain, sturdy and responsibility, beautiful and peaceful.” He traces a root in the ground with his finger, “But im not, im emotional and unwise.”
“I simply doubt that, if anything i think you are more a mountain than any other earth ghoul I’ve met.” Aether says, placing his hand on the ghouls
Earth looks up at Aether, “I’m not sad to loose my life in the pit, I never knew anyone there who was nice.” He admits solemnly.
The quintessence ghoul looks at him with pity, he knew the pit was rough even fore ghouls, “Then why must you weep?”
“I’m sad because I don’t have anything to loose, and now I must live in a world where there is more life to remind me of how lonely and out of place I am.” He says, letting down his guard now that aether was that close to him.
Earth ghouls were usually very short and small, smaller than water ghouls. He was abandoned from his pack due to them thinking he was a water ghoul for his height and quick growing hair.
“That doesn’t matter now, if I had room to say amongst all of the people here than id say you fit perfectly among these misfits we call ourselves.” Aether laughed softly as he stood up, “Come, I think you would enjoy some fresher clothes.”
Earth stood up with a soft smile, “If you say so, but…I don’t even have a name..how will i belong?”
“I think I found one,” Aether says as he takes his hand and walks with him on the brick path to the ghoul quarters.
“I think Mountain is a great name,”

the way to a ghoul’s heart*
yoooo i finally finished a fic for mushy may! in which a newly summoned rain is having a hard time adjusting to human food, but a certain fire ghoul comes to the rescue. thank you @forlorn-crows for inspiring me to write for the first time in a couple of months<3
rating: teen pairings: rain/dew, dew/cheese includes: late-night snacks, first kiss, rain being a thirsty bitch word count: 1,659
It’s completely dark in the kitchen, save for the single light shining out from the open fridge door. The bright glare outlines the stark silhouette of a ghoul, one who has their head thrown back while tipping a bag of something directly into their mouth. “...Dew?” Rain says incredulously, his voice echoing loudly in the otherwise empty room. The fire ghoul startles and whips around guiltily. “Rain? Fuck—” He coughs violently before managing to swallow a large mouthful of—Rain squints to read the label on the bag—shredded cheese.

𝒎𝒖𝒔𝒉𝒚 𝒎𝒂𝒚 𝒅𝒂𝒚 1: 𝒄𝒖𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒂𝒈𝒈𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏
pairing(s): aeon/swiss words: 656
He’s barely visible under the fuzzy gray blanket that’s pulled around his body. With his legs tucked up against his chest, fabric cocooned around him, he looks like a kit drowning in a terry cloth towel after a bath. Only Aeon’s round face, screwed up in concentration with the ends of his hoodie strings between his teeth, and knobby hands, plunking away at his new basic smartphone, are visible to Swiss.
In simple terms, he’s too cute to handle. Swiss’ fingers itch to grab and poke, squish the cuteness right out of him. Aeon grumbles something about the tiny keyboard, big pointed ear twitching as he stabs at the screen, and the multi ghoul cannot stand it for another second.
“Whatcha doin’, bug?” he calls from his chair opposite the couch.
Aeon chirps, peeking up from the screen. His hair sticks up on top when he lifts his head. “Hm?”
Swiss is going to scream. “I said ‘whatcha doin’’?”
“Well,” he spits out the hoodie strings, shifting a bit. “I’m trying to figure out this . . . texting thing. But Dew keeps sending me funny little faces after I accidentally send him random letters. The keys are so small, how do you do this?”
“You’ll get it, just takes some time. At least you have smaller thumbs.” Swiss wiggles both of his in Aeon’s direction. “That’ll help.”
Aeon huffs, corners of his mouth turning down, lower lip sticking out; he pouts. He’s pouting. Why must Copia always summon the adorable ones? And why can Swiss just never keep his hands off of them?
The frown remains in place even as Swiss hops out of his seat and sits down beside the newbie quint. Swiss shakes his head and chuckles. “Why’re you so damn cute?”
Aeon side-eyes him. Scoffs a little and rolls his eyes. “Cute?” he accuses.
“Have you seen yourself?”
“I mean, yeah, I look in the mirror everyday—”
“No,” Swiss laughs, “right now. With your blanket and your little phone and that pouty face.” The multi ghoul pokes him right in the cheek, emphasizing said frown.
“You make me sound like a child,” Aeon grumbles and flinches away, sticking his tongue out as he locks his phone and shoves it into the couch cushions. He pulls the blanket even tighter around himself. But there’s a smile tugging at his lips, even as he continues to side-eye Swiss.
Once again, he is going to scream. “You make me crazy,” he admits stupidly, shaking his head. “I just wanna,” he makes a vague grabby-hands motion, indicating his frustration, “ugh, I just wanna scrunch you up and put you in my pocket, baby.”
“Front pockets are preferable, please.” Aeon grins suddenly, showing off his fangs.
Swiss blinks. Momentarily stunned to silence—an incredibly rare feat for this ghoul.
“You little—” He springs into action, leaning close and poking his thick fingers everywhere: his neck, behind his ears, the dimples in his cheeks. Aeon squawks in protest, but that does nothing to stop the onslaught. He growls playfully and grabs his cheeks, squishing and smushing and squeezing.
“‘wiss,” the quint attempts to complain—keep it together, really—through pushed-together cheeks. “‘top, bhat’re you—”
“I’m sorry, but you’re too adorable to live,” Swiss explains. “Gotta stop you before you reach mach cuteness or everyone’ll die.” Aeon whines, removing his arms from the blanket to swat at him to no avail. Swiss is quick to release his cheeks, grabbing his wrists instead and pinning his arms to his chest.
“Gah, what the fu—” Swiss cuts him off with a cross between a snarl, a growl, and a weird noise a disgruntled-slash-scared cat would make, completely dramatic and unserious, diving in to his neck open-mouthed so he can graze his skin with the front of his teeth repeatedly with fake bites. Aeon can only toss his head back and giggle ferociously and against his will.
“Gonna eat you,” Swiss growls. “C’mere.”
“Why are you like this?!”

AO3 for the so-inclined First/Second Mushies
The sight that greets Aether when he finally returns to the ghoul common room after a too-long shift melts his heart and momentarily drowns out his bone-deep exhaustion. The pulsing pain.  It’s balm for his lonely soul. He wants it painted, framed, and hung over the fireplace.
He stops rolling his tense shoulders, stops stretching his limbs to keep the burning in muscles of his body at bay, and simply stands in the door frame, taking his time to take it all in and commit it to memory.
There’s Dew, on the brink of falling asleep. His eyelids fluttering closed, upper body tipping over just so only to snap open as his instincts shock him back awake. The process repeats itself a few moments later.  And it‘s all for Aether. Or well, because of him. As warm and fuzzy, and admittedly a little horny, as it makes him feel that Dew waits up for him and that he doesn’t have to come back to a quiet, empty den and can instead spend some precious moments with Dew, it never fails to make Aether feel guilty as well. There are just so many better, healthier, more enjoyable things he could do with his time instead of waiting for good ol’ Aether.
But that’s not all of it. What truly gets to him is how individually Dew runs his fingers through the hair of the two ghouls with their heads propped up in his lap. One side treated carefully and focused on the top, the other firm, with his fingers running deep through the strands of hair.  An adjustment to his glasses reveals Ifrit and Phantom. Conked out and slightly drooling.
The urge to join is immediate and so is the feeling of envy. Aether would be lying if he denied it, knowing how good Dew’s warm fingers felt running over his scalp and temples and how long Phantom and Ifrit were able to enjoy it while he was stuck somewhere else. How just one touch would ease his ailments so fast. But Aether won’t ask. Not when he can see how stiff the movement of Dew’s fingers still is, remembering this morning when he couldn‘t even get them to bend.
But for a moment Aether only aches for him and his touch and a cooing sound leaves him before he can stop himself.
Dew blinks sleepily in his direction at the sound before, once it falls on Aether,  his gaze turns razor-sharp, a smile lighting up his face, fangs flashing.
It’s a hello and finally you’re back in one and the pull of it has Aether moving before he’s aware of it.
“Look at you, taking care of the kids,” Aether quips, as he leans over the back of the couch and brushes his lips first to the back of Dew’s neck, behind his ear, and lastly on his cheek. He lingers there and closes his eyes. Just that little contact, to only breathe Dewdrop’s scent in,  feels like his quintessence is channeled back to him with renewed energy. It makes the pain from bending over that shoots down his spine and into his legs and has him freezing up for a good few seconds more than worth it.
Damn the frazzled nerves from too much quintessence use without enough breaks in between and his aging vessel. Not to mention damn himself for sitting outside with Mountain for way too long last night. Dew‘s palm rests on his cheek a second later, holding his face as if he can hear the inner monologue Aether’s hiding from him and wants to tell him it’s okay.
Aether could fall asleep like that. He just might. Who’s going to stop him?
“My husband, he has finally returned from war”
There’s tired laughter in Dew’s mind voice and again, that pang of guilt that sits in Aether‘s chest grows again. That Dew’s choosing to communicate this way says a lot and he presses even closer, smushing his nose into Dewdrop‘s cheek like it can stop that little black hole from growing further.
„He has indeed. Where is his leg poppin' welcome kiss?“
„I‘ll pop something else for him,“ Dew grins, earning him a nip in the jaw but he just leans into it, so he nips at Dew again until he turns his head and rests their foreheads together. Their own little bubble.
Aether sighs dramatically, ramping up the fakeness of it all.  „Maybe I wanted to be the one doing the popping, ever thought of that? That it was my lifelong dream? Now my leg will forever be tragically unpopped.“
Ifrit stirs before Dew can unleash his undoubtedly snarky reply to him, and they both look down as he insistently nudges Dew‘s free hand back into petting motions with his nose. Phantom, follows suit, smacks his lips, and rolls over, belly up.
 Aether and Dew share a look before a chuckle bubbles out of them.
“Idiots tried to stay up for you with me. Failed pretty hard,” Dew explains, so much fondness in his words that it has Aether wanting to know about the undoubtedly interesting events that took place.
„They fell asleep for a noble cause. Just have to figure out how we get them up and into bed.“ He grasps Dew’s hand, rubbing his thumbs gently over the swelling. He‘d love to use his quintessence to pull all of Dew‘s discomfort into himself but can‘t. He feels the refusal of his being to deplete his energy completely.
“Maybe…”
Mountain's head appears at the kitchen door, followed by the rest of his body after an oddly long moment, holding a jar of chocolate spread in one hand and one of peanut butter in the other. The munchies have struck again it seems.
“I’ll help carry those fools to bed if you wanna?”
Aether opens his mouth to answer, undoubtedly about to decline the offer for some dumb reason, but the look on Dew’s face sends him a clear message. Aether needs to let Mountain help or else. Even in his tired state, it’s no less threatening. So Aether relents. Reluctantly.
“We wanna. We definitely wanna”
Mountain gives them a thumbs up and once he has his hands free, he scoops Ifrit into his arms, while Aether does the same to Phantom. “Fresh, hot fire ghoul delivery goes where?”
“Aether’s room. I may or may not have to keep a promise”
Aether has many questions regarding that statement, the implications giving him the heebie jeebies, but he just nods for Mountain to follow Dewdrop, making him the tail end of their little caravan. Back there, Aether can freely grind his teeth through Phantom’s added weight, through the gritty sand-like feeling in his knees, especially when the smaller ghoul starts chasing something in his sleep, ‘running’ on all fours in the air. Under any other circumstance, Aether would find that hilarious, but as it is he has half a mind to drop Phantom and make it look like an accident.
In the end, he makes it.
They make it.
Aether and Mountain navigate around each other to choose a nice fur for Phantom and Ifrit to curl into each other. Mountain gets the softest of kisses for his help that has the tips of his ears blushing and him stuttering a little as he bids them goodnight.
Dew disappears into the bathroom and Aether hears the water start running as he makes a solid attempt to rid himself of his infirmary uniform, letting out small breaths with each movement after the pain eases again. He has to pause with his undershirt halfway up his torso for so long that he decides to give up.  A part of him wishes he was alone. It would take less effort to keep his composure and not worry about inconveniencing anyone else by having to worry about him. It would also mean he would have more space to roll around and ease the strain on himself.
The other part, which is arguably much stronger,  craves contact with his pack after being among humans the whole day.
To Dewdrop.
He moves to his nest to position the other two properly, making sure they won‘t roll onto the floor while he and Dew get ready to join them. Both being too wriggly for their own good. A pillow here, trapping the hem of the blanket under a foot there. Smoothing his hands over their frames to remove the creasing.  He manages a kiss on Ifrit’s forehead before a tail curls around his middle and two hot hands pull him gently toward the bathroom.
„I wasn‘t done. They….“
The little protest dies on his lips, snuffed out by the spade of Dew’s tail. His words. They‘re neither firm nor demanding, just matter of fact.
„Nope. It’s Firefly time now“
And what his Firefly wants, his Firefly gets.
Fresh herbs fill his nose, prominently, lemon grass, chamomile, and rosemary and he recognizes the mixture. Aether can see the little linen bag floating in the tub, infusing the water with swirls of color. Greens and Yellows. Browns that dissolve into faint reds and pinks.
He remembers the complimenting tincture that sits on the tiled shelf next to the bathtub and lists the ingredients of both in his mind. Epsom salt, Lavender, peppermint, sage, and thyme. Something ghoulish Mountain adds, to increase the effect of pain reduction and anti-inflammation for them.  Somehow that particular one slips his mind right now. His head filled with too many human words. He only knows that Dew loves the smell of it. Especially on either of their skin.
Dew works on getting Aether‘s shirt off and stretches it enough to be able to pull it over his arms without the other ghoul having to move them too much. Leans in to kiss his collarbones, his pecs and tucks his face into his neck to breathe him in while he loosens Aether’s pants enough to give them and his boxers a little shove to let them pool around the tall ghoul's feet to step out of easily.
„You don‘t have to do this“
Aether mirrors the gesture in a strange counterpoint to his words and drags his nose up the side of Dewdrops’s throat with a sigh, the tips of his tongue coming out to play too. Dewdrop shivers and he wishes they had the energy for more.
„I know“
„I‘m just saying, you‘re tired. You should sleep“.
„I don’t want to sleep“
With that, he runs his hands over Aether’s arms, the swollen hot joints in Dewdrop's fingers feeling like hot stones on his skin. He badly wants to sag forward into Dewdrop's embrace and get lost in his touch. He just doesn’t think he deserves it when Dewdrop’s in pain too. He should be the one helping him, he should….
Yet he sways forward just as Dewdrop’s hands slide higher and steal Aether’s glasses off of his nose, smiling oh so softly up at him.
“I want you”
Aether has to try one more time for his own peace of mind.
„But you‘re…“
„I haven‘t touched you all day and I am starved for it, that‘s what I am. So shut up. I’m taking care of you.”
Before Aether can react to the blatant vulnerability, Dew’s clothes join Aether‘s on the floor and he’s in the tub, making himself comfortable
He wriggles his finger at Aether when crooking it fails. „C‘mere“
It‘s clear what he wants. It‘s just one of those moments where Aether‘s too aware of his size, even after all these years. While he can work it most of the time, precise and proud, it feels impossible right now. If he slips, he might not be able to catch himself, and….He decidedly does not finish that thought, the potential outcome already looming humiliatingly at the edge of his mind. Paralyzing in its nature.
„Starlight….Stop thinking and get the fuck in“
The fond exasperation in Dewdrop’s voice makes Aether smile despite himself. He knows he‘s too deep in his head, overthinking things. Most of his positive thoughts blanketed by layers of doubts and insecurities, increased by his exhaustion. His own weakness projected on Dewdrop when he knows, he knows!, Dewdrop is far from it.
And he really would love to be the little spoon if he’s being honest.
Carefully, Aether climbs into the tub and gingerly lowers himself between slender thighs, and instantly the heels of Dewdrop's hands press into the hardened areas on Aether’s back, nimble fingers loosening the knots and a clever tongue showering him with praises and encouragement. Peeling the dark layers back to let Dewdrop‘s light in, quieting the nasty voices in Aether’s mind.  The hot, infused water takes care of the rest. Relaxes muscles and nerves.
He wants to sob with how loved he feels.
Aether doesn’t know when he snoozed off but wakes to Dew guiding him to lay back against his chest and starting to work on his front with one of those spiky massage balls. He feels floaty, the previous pain only an echo in his body now.  He tilts his head up, kissing along Dew’s jaw, with mumbles of „Thank you. ‘m sorry for fallin’ asleep“ and promises he’ll take care of him now until Dew can’t help but seek his lips out, shushing him effectively.
The kiss is slow at first, lazy. It’s them catching up on what they had to miss out on during the day.  A well well-timed flick of tongue tips it over into heated and deep, small appreciative moans bouncing off of the tiles. Dew’s hands splay over Aether’s belly with a hint of claws, a touch that feels simultaneously claiming and grounding and Aether can’t help but cover them with his own and keep them there just before the kiss tapers off into a gentle slide of lips and happy purrs. Until it’s simply them breathing each other's air.  Twins of a smitten smile gracing their faces.
Then Dewdrop shifts, directing their attention to a different, but in Dewdrop’s opinion no less important matter. Aether quirks an eyebrow, a teasing smile on his lips.
 „Guess you told me you’d pop something else for me”
When Aether cracks an eye open the next morning because he’s repeatedly jostled by something, it’s just in time to watch Ifrit and Phantom roll by like a tumbleweed in the desert. Wrestling or making out, he can’t quite tell.  In times like these, he curses having a nest as big as this. Dew yawns next to him, his lips finding Aether‘s warm, sleep-scented skin, kissing up a trail to his face.
“Your kits are awake” Aether sighs, letting his eye fall closed again. If they notice that they're awake too it's over. Dew dares to raise his head to peer over the hem of the duvet, hums speculatively, and then burrows himself further into his spot.
 „Before sunrise, they’re your kits.”

Mushy May Day 2- reminiscing (I changed it oops)
I’m just rewriting thunderstorms because I loved it a lot and wanted to rewrite something a year later, just because I think I can expand upon it (:
Thanks to @forlorn-crows for putting this month together!
1.5k of mountain and dew listening to a thunderstorm.
Warnings: hurt/comfort, mountain attempts to have a serious talk with dew, vague description of a small panic attack,
“Dew, can I ask you a question”
“Yeah of course, what’s up” dew mumbled, head forward to the sky. Mountain lifted himself from his shoulder and sighed.
“Why do you act the way you do”
Tumblr media
Dew opened his eyes slowly, just in time to see the room be lit up with lightning, closely followed by a clap of thunder that echoed through the house. He rolled over and attempted to snuggle into a body that was no longer there. A mass of pillows and sheets made up the form of the earth ghoul he had fallen asleep with, as if he didnt want to wake dew in his absence.
“Mountain?” Dew whispered in a groggy tone. It wasn’t like mountain to leave in the middle of the night when they slept together. Often he was the one to hold dew close and mumble protests when they finally had to get up, but dew couldn't remember the last time he had left him first. He attempted to pull the pillows closer to him, the smell of mountain mixed with some kind of fresh scented cheap detergent invaded his senses. All too artificial and cold, a poor excuse for another body.
The house is always eerily still at this hour. The only source of sound being the rolling clouds in the distance and the creak of old wood under dews feet. He could sneak into someone else’s room, wedge himself between aether and Swiss, or curl behind cirrus. But the curiosity of where mountain had gone at such an hour peaked dews interest too much, and the particular ache in his hips was something only quelled by his earth ghoul.
Another large lightning strike lit up the living room, and a figure sitting outside on the patio.
“Mountain?” Dew whispered again, opening the back door.
Mountain turned to greet dew with a small smile. “Hi droplet, storm wake you up?”
“Yeah I guess. You too?” Dew closed the door and walked over to stand next to him, pulling one of the chairs that didn’t seem soaked in rain over to the convenient dry spot that mountain had found on the porch.
“Just couldn’t sleep”
“ ….. we could go for round two if you want something to tir-“
“Just listen to the storm with me,” mountain interrupted. “Usually helps me sleep”
The strong wind and splashes of rain made dew pull his jacket closer to himself, shivering as he sat down. Mountain threw an arm over his shoulder, pulling the smaller ghoul close as another boom of thunder hit. Warmth radiated off of dew as he attempted to regulate his own temperature, putting off waves of heat to keep the both of them comfortable. Mountain breathed deeply, inhaling the earthy smell of thunderstorm, with hints of dewdrop, a comfort of spice and smoke. They sat like that for a minute, basking in each other's company before dew broke the silence.
“So do you just, watch?” He asked
“Yeah” mountain hummed, shoving his face into dews neck and taking a deep breath.
“What are you watching? There’s nothing happening”
Mountain smiled at him “there’s plenty happening, but sometimes it’s nice to sit and just appreciate nature even when there’s nothing going on”
“Sounds like you’re just a nerd” mountain rolled his eyes and sighed.
“You’re more than welcome to go back inside if you’re bored”
“But I wanted you to come with me” dew leaned his head onto mountains where it was still rested on his shoulder. He drew his legs up to avoid the splashes of rain on the concrete. “Besides, it’s wet out here. Wouldn’t it be better to watch from inside if you’re so insistent?”
“But that’s not the point of sitting out here”
“Then what is the point?” Dew grumbled, pouting with his arms against his chest.
Mountain breathed deep for a minute. As much as he loved dew, sometimes he wanted to spend his time peacefully. He wanted to take an opportunity to appreciate the simplicity of the storm, to breathe in the petrichor as if he would never experience it again. There’s always been something grounding about watching a storm pass, about the morality that Mother Nature reminded everyone of.
Dew reminded him of a dark cloud sometimes. Heavy and rain filled, simply looking for a release even if it ended up being destructive to those around him. Mountain lost his patience with him earlier, evident by the bruising around his wrist and the way dew couldn’t quite sit still. They sat for a couple more minutes without speaking. Purely focused on the wind and rain. More thunder rumbled in the distance. They watched as the silvery clouds flashed above the tree line.
“Dew, can I ask you a question”
“Yeah of course, what’s up” dew mumbled, head forward to the sky. Mountain lifted himself from his shoulder and sighed.
“Why do you act the way you do”
Dew was stunned. He didn’t know how to answer that question. Mountain didn’t look at him when he asked, gaze turned towards his lap as if he too didn’t know what answer he wanted, or even why he had asked the question in the first place.
“I dont- what do you mean?” He asked, looking up at the bigger ghoul. Mountain leaned his head back, staring directly into the sky.
“You’re just constantly provoking. You seem to do things specifically to get on people’s nerves, specifically to get a reaction.”
“Then don’t react. I’m just joking and you know that mo” dew rolled his eyes. He sounded teasing, like he was still trying to get the rise of annoyance out of mountain. An instinct in him to continue to push until he can’t anymore.
“See? I don’t really understand you sometimes. You seem to just always want to be bad”
“Fuck you” tears welled up in dews eyes before he could stop them or turn away. He quickly stood up and stumbled backwards as if the chair was suddenly burning his skin.
“Droplet that’s not-“
“I dont” he furiously wiped his face, embarrassed to have mountain see him cry over something that seems so trivial. Part of him has to admit that mountain is somewhat right. He can’t help it, can’t help the part of him that wants to see the reaction to his antics, the part of him that feels sickly satisfied with the grumble of annoyance or backlash when he’s successful.
Dew knew he was probably overreacting, but the sentence stung, “you just always want to be bad” he doesnt. He doesn’t know why he acts the way he does.
“I know you don’t” mountain attempted to move towards him, but dew continued to back up, putting as much space as possible between them like a frightened animal. His eyes were squeezed shut, the sight of pity on mountains face unbearable. If mountain thought he wanted to act out to be a nuisance he didn't want his pity as well. He shouldn’t feel bad for him in this context. Especially since he probably deserves it.
“You just fucking said I do. You just said I do you asshole” the tears were falling faster than he could wipe his face. He wanted to rush inside, lock himself in his room and attempt to forget the conversation that was happening. He doesn’t want to be an annoyance, to make people angry, to be bad.
“That’s not what I meant” Mountain took another step towards dew. His movements were slow, cautious, not to overwhelm the fire ghoul. He hated seeing him like this, as anyone would.
“Stop”
“You constantly act like you want to be punished. You act like you need someone to beat it out of you. You’re only good after you let someone treat you like some kind of stress relief.”
“Mountain stop, please” dew hiccuped. He put his arm in front of his face like he was trying to block out mountains words. Every fiber in him praying mountain will drop him like a sufficiently wounded animal and stop toying with him.
“You don’t deserve to be hurt Dew”
Dew froze. He dropped his sleeve from his face and stared at mountain. Thunder continued to crackled in the distance, but all he could hear was his own heartbeat and blood rushing through his eardrums. His chest felt like it was constricting hearing those words said to him. He wanted to respond, call him stupid and go to bed. But he couldn’t. It felt like there was a golf ball in his throat, preventing him from speaking. He continued to stare at mountain. Neither of them made any attempt to move.
“You deserve positive attention droplet” mountain whispered, as if the words being spoken would break dew into tiny pieces in front of him. “You deserve to be able to ask for the love you need”
He made a slow advancement towards him, giving him to to move in case he still didn’t want to be touched at the moment. But dew continued to stand there, tears still streaming down his cheeks. Mountain put his arms around the smaller ghoul and held him tightly. Dew finally broke and sobbed into mountains shoulder. Holding onto his shirt for dear life.
“I’m sorry” he managed to get out “ I don’t mean to -“
“You don’t need to be sorry” mountain cut him off. He slowly pet his hair while dew continued to bury his head into his chest. “I love you so much”
A cold breeze laced with the spray of rain washed over them. Dews skinned burned as he cried into mountains chest while little rivets of steam radiated off of him. Mountain could only feel the pleasant warmth through his layers of clothing, he wished that he could hold dew like this forever.
They stayed like that for as long as dew needed it. Holding each other while the storm continued on in the background.

Mushy May Day 2: Late night snacks
Rating: Teen Word count: 3,560 Pairing(s): Swiss/Dewdrop + some Phantom/Rain heavily implied on the side, as a treat. Additional: Recreational drug use, minor blood and injury, references to sex, the ever-looming threat of an earth ghoul whose weed was stolen, and the existence of cheese singles. Summary: Dewdrop and Swiss raided Mountain's personal stash, and now they raid the kitchen too! Link to it on AO3 for those who prefer!
I had to take a day off for health reasons, and then I forgot to post this last night, but now I'm back with some swissdew shenanigans!
Once again, a huge thanks to @forlorn-crows for organizing Mushy May!
~~~~~~~~~~
Dew woke up with a start when something wet touched him, hissing out into the open air and looking around wildly trying to find whatever unknown had dared to disturb his sleep. His body was still adjusting to the suddenness of being awake, and that didn’t play favourites with his eyes, so he wasn’t able to do much more than squint and swish his tail back and forth in agitation.
“Whuh…!?” Seems his brain is still too mushy from sleep to even finish getting out a single coherent word.
He continued to swish his tail but his hiss faded away into a low growl, near-silent in volume as he was far too tired to do anything more. Dew kept blinking his eyes hoping to open them each time with a newly granted sense of sight, and if he had energy left in him he would have jumped for joy when he finally acclimated to the light. Wait, why would the light be on?
He feels stupid when he goes to pull his blanket off of him only to find that it’s not there, as a matter of fact, it’s nowhere to be found in the room, which only serves to add yet another layer to his confusion. He wouldn’t be caught dead without that thing, be it in his bunk in a tour bus, serving as a protective layer between him and whatever uncomfortable sheets the hotel they’re staying at has, or just as a source of comfort and warmth back here, home, in the abbey. Not that he needed the additional warmth though, definitely not with how things had been warming up recently combined with his Fire ghoul nature.
He looked to his side, hoping maybe he had kicked it away in his sleep after getting too hot or something, but instead, he was met with the glorious sight of none other than Swiss, sleeping like a rock, snoring louder than even Aether, and with a long and luxurious strand of drool trailing down the side of a pillow he was holding onto for dear life. And then everything clicked.
Memories flooded Dew’s head of how he and Swiss had broken into Mountain’s stash earlier that evening, getting their grubby mitts into the real good shit that he usually kept for himself, giant selfish bastard. He also remembered how they had then raided his entire Stash and left very few survivors in their wake, and how they then locked themselves in Swiss' room before participating in some stupid fucked up contest of seeing who could smoke through the most of it in a single day. Dew looked back to Swiss again, that puddle of drool had definitely grown by a few centimetres since he’d last looked. Judging by the state of him, and how Swiss was apparently dead to the world, they probably weren’t finding out who had won any time soon. Dewdrop groans and flops back down onto the bed. Of course, the one thing he couldn’t recall was both the reason for and the result of them getting into this mess.
What he hadn’t been anticipating was for his coordination to still be a little off after only being awake for a few short minutes, and thus he hadn’t been expecting his elbow to hit a sleeping Swiss right in the face. Swiss’ poor nose certainly hadn’t been expecting it, that’s for sure.
The most pathetic and hurt-sounding yelp he’s ever heard let Dew know that all those comments about his elbows being unusually bony may have some basis in truth after all. The ghoul that was dead asleep just a few seconds ago was now wide awake and hunched over himself while he clutches his nose. What Dew thinks is the slightest dribble of blood serves to sober him up a bit from his self-imposed high. He immediately starts looking around before finding what he’s looking for, locating the box of tissues on the nightstand next to Swiss’ bed and grabbing it before he can think too long about why it would be there in the first place.
“Ah shit! M’so sorry Swiss, didn’ mean to.” He blabbers out an attempt of an apology as he holds the tissues out to Swiss, who now has tears of pain threatening to spill at the corners of his eyes as he snatches the tissues from Dew, hissing at him all the while, and, yeah, he did kinda deserve that.
“Th’fuck s’wrong with you? F’ckin’ asshole.” Not even the shock of having his nose bashed by Dewdrop’s elbow could truly wake up Swiss, as it would seem. In true Swiss fashion, the larger ghoul continued to spit and hiss out more slurred insults at the smaller while he grabbed a bunch of the tissues and held them up to his bloody nose which would definitely have a pretty purple bruise on it later on that would lead to them being subjected to another of Aether’s interrogations while the Quintessence ghoul would try to figure out how two idiots like them survived for long enough in the pit to be summoned, just for them to be even bigger dumbasses.
Once Swiss had cleaned up his face and shook off his shame from being defeated by Dew’s bony as-shit elbow of all things, the Multi decided to dedicate the rest of his life to giving the Fire ghoul the dirtiest look he could muster. He wasn’t even giving him daggers now, he was giving him full-on swords. It was almost funny how mad he was trying to look, his nose all scrunched up with his ears down, fur puffed up to further set in how pissed he was with him at the moment. And yet, Dew wouldn’t forget this moment between them for Swiss' ire, which he had rightfully earned to be fair, but for how that heated silence was suddenly broken by one of the loudest growls he had ever heard come from Swiss' stomach.
They stared at each other, both looked down at Swiss' stomach, and immediately looked right back up to each other again, before simultaneously bursting out into a fit of giggles. All of Dew’s elbow’s transgressions are forgotten as they roll around on top of Swiss' bed.
After a few minutes of giggling and another interruption, this time from Dew’s stomach, Swiss finally let out his first fully formed words since he’d been so rudely woken up. “Woah, easy there tiger, don’t gotta go roaring at me.” He put his hands up in a mock surrender “How ‘bout we go and raid the kitchen for whatever good stuff we can find? We can bring it back here and have ourselves a feast.”
Dewdrop thought about it, and he was really hungry now that they’d both been made aware by their bodies, and rather loudly at that. But, and there was always a but, Dewdrop looked over to the locked door leading out into the hallway and his thoughts stilled for a moment. The whole reason it had been locked in the first place was because they both Mountain would be out for blood once he found his stash desecrated and gone, and another memory from the evening was returned to him, this one of Mountain pounding on the door when he had finally found out what they’d done, and how the only thing stopping him from going through with his threat to kick down the door and collect retribution for his precious weed was Aether quite literally dragging him away to cool down a bit if the scuffle they had heard was anything of substance. One thing was gnawing away at his mind right now, and he made sure to voice it; “What if he’s still out there.”
Swiss understood what he meant, and looked like he was speedrunning through the exact thought process Dew had just gone through judging by the slight panic in his eyes, but apparently, he wasn’t anywhere as worried as Dew was, because he just shrugged.
“You got any idea what time it is?”
Dewdrop chews at his lip before digging around for his phone. He manages to find it under a pillow, the very same one that now had a damp spot from Swiss drooling on it, gross. After a more than slightly judgemental look sent the taller ghoul’s way, Dewdrop turns the screen on and goes to look at the time. Swiss leans over his shoulder to take a peek for himself.
Both of them are left in silent shock at the time.
“Shit…”
“Did we really sleep for that long?”
“Must have, the phone doesn’t lie Dewbug.”
“Thought I told you to stop calling me that.” The Fire ghoul hissed, though they both knew it didn’t have any real bite to it.
“But it’s just so fun getting to see your cheeks go red like that, Dewbug.” There it was again, that toothy grin that would make a baby cry. And speaking of the devil, the Multi’s teasing paid off when he got to watch as his partner tried to hide himself amongst the pillows. There wasn’t a doubt in his mind that the very blush he was referring to would be found spreading its way across Dew’s cheeks at that very moment if anyone were to get a good look.
With perfect timing as always, Swiss' stomach chooses that moment to remind the two of their shared hunger, possibly saving Dewdrop from any further torment and teasing.
Getting back on track, Swiss pads his way over to the door and opens the bolt lock, but before he can even get his hand on the handle Dew is diving across the bed and towards him. “Wait!”
Swiss gives him a look that hopefully reads as ‘You really wanna starve in here?’, but goes out of his way to voice the rhetorical question anyway.
“I mean, no, but-”
“Excellent! Then let’s get-a-going and get some grub.” And with that, Swiss swings the door open, but is careful to make sure it doesn’t bang against the wall and make a noise. He may be crazy, but he doesn’t want to risk being the one to disturb anyone’s sleep. Then they’ll really be helpless when Mountain inevitably gets his claws on them. “Just, y’know, be quiet. Sneaky.” He adds in a hushed tone with a wink at the end for emphasis. And with that, the two ghouls are slowly and stealthy tiptoeing their way down the hallway, making their way to the den and by extension the kitchenette as they pass by the doors to all the rooms that the band ghouls call home. They can hope each and every one of them is occupied by sleeping ghouls, especially as they pass by the room of a certain abnormally tall Earth ghoul. Step after step, they slowly inched their way down the hall, getting closer and closer to their goal.
Finally, the narrow length of the hallway spreads out into a much wider and vastly more spacious common room, or the den as it’s come to be known. The room is near pitch black in the dark of the night, and with their minds still a little hazy from all the weed they had indulged themselves with smoking several hours ago, even with their more advanced ghoulish eyesight, they can't really make much of anything out. Swiss, showing a brief moment of rationality and even using a little logic to boot, reaches out to his side where he knew the lightswitch to be and suddenly the large space is flooded with light, though thankfully on a dimmer setting so it isn’t too much of a shock to their eyes.
What does come as a shock, is the ghoul staring at the pair from where they stand by the kitchenette, looking like a deer caught in headlights, a freshly opened pack of crackers in one hand and an entire brand new tube of Primula cheese in the other.
The atmosphere is palpable, the tension in the room so thick you could cut it, right up until a cracker falls out from the packaging and clatters when it hits the floor, that is.
“Phantom? Why the hell are you up at this time?”
That seems to make the Quintessence bristle up a did. His ears pull back when he whisper-shouts a defensive and very creative “Why are you!?”
Swiss and Dew look at each other at the exact same time, both thinking about whether they should tell him about their escapades and Mountain.
“Uhm… stuff…” Dew blurts out. Very articulated. Swiss gives him a look but he just shrugs. Well, what did the Multi want him to say?
“Hey, are those Cirrus’ crackers?” Swiss tries to deflect Phantom’s deflection, and it seems to work as Phantom is immediately right back to looking like he’d just been caught with his pants down.
Looking around and finding no way to escape from the situation, Phantom resigns and answers the question. “Yes…”
Oh, this was gonna be good. It’s nice to know they weren’t the only ones dumb enough to steal from their packmates tonight. Everyone knows how defensive Cirrus can get over her snacks, and those crackers were her favourite. The fact that they’d only just been bought and she hasn’t even gotten a chance to try them yet will just add to the drama of all this.
“Oooh~ Somebody’s gonna be in trouble~”
Phantom snaps his gaze right over to Dew, glaring at him while he utters his next words. “You don’t tell Cirrus it was me, and I don’t tell Mountain.”
Dewdrop just had to go and tease him.
“Ha, nice try kid, but the big guy already knows all about what we did.”
“Trust me, we all know.” Phantom puts it bluntly, and it doesn’t come as a surprise at all considering how loud Mountain had been earlier, and that was just what they heard through the door. “I meant I won’t tell him exactly where you guys will be tomorrow.” When raises an eyebrow at him. “I’ve been speaking to Sunny, and I’ve seen your guys’ schedules for your chores tomorrow. I’ll do it.” Oh, okay, so the new kid had finally grown some fangs it would seem. Swiss almost barks out a laugh from the shock of it all, who knew Phantom of all ghouls would be the one threatening to sic a pissed-off Mountain on them?
“Okay, okay, you win kid. Sheesh.”
And with that, they seem to slip into a truce of sorts. Phantom sets his pilfered crackers and squeezy cheese off to the side so he can find a plate, and Swiss and Dew walk past him to start rummaging through the cupboards and fridge for anything that speaks to their hunger at the moment. Swiss flipped through the cupboards whilst Dew searched through the fridge.
“All I’ve got here is a bag of chips and a half-empty box of breadsticks that may or may not be on their way to going stale already, any luck over there?” When Swiss receives no reply he looks to check on Dew, and finds his companion doing a silly victory dance as he holds up a pack of some deli meat like it’s the cub in that one lion film they’d watched a couple months back. Swiss had to bite his tongue and hold back whatever laugh or teasing comment he would have let out. It was just so pure. They were both still decently high from Mountain’s weed, raiding the kitchen in the midst of the night as quickly as possible so they could return to Swiss’ room to continue hiding from Mountain’s wrath, and Swiss couldn’t bring himself to look away from Dew. He wondered if this was what people mean when they say that it sometimes feels as if time has frozen when they look at their partners.
“Dew, you look ridiculous.” And the moment is ruined. Swiss turns to bare his fangs slightly at the younger ghoul but Phantom is unphased and just sticks his tongue out in return, the cheeky fucker. By the time Swiss turns back to Dew, he’s finished his celebration and has placed the pack of sliced meat on the nearby side, right next to where Swiss has placed his findings, before diving back on in to grab the final piece to make this meal truly perfect.
“Boom! Cheese singles.” He smirks up at Swiss while she waves the individually packaged slices of processed cheese in his face, positively pleased at himself with his findings.
Phantom decides to pipe in again from over by where he’s now got everything he needs, the entire tube of Primula now squeezed out onto the plate with a knife carefully placed beside it, his crackers still in their pack off to the side where he’d been snacking on a few when trying to find the knife and plate. Truly a charcuterie board for kings. “You’re seriously gonna eat those? Are they even real cheese?”
Dewdrop is quick to defend himself. “First of all, yes, I am seriously gonna eat these cheese singles, and I’m gonna love every second of it. And second, I’m not gonna be judged by the ghoul who is about to eat a fuckton of crackers with squeezy cheese!” He presses an accusatory finger into Phantom’s chest. Now with being so close to him, Dewdrop takes in how the ghoul is blatantly wearing clothes that aren’t his. The shirt is obviously one of Dew’s, while not tight it was definitely on the shorter side and left a bit of Phantom’s tummy out for all to see, and if he had to take a guess on the owner of the slightly too-big boxers he had on Swiss was probably the safest bet. He didn’t miss the messy hair or how a certain bassist’s scent was clinging to him like moss to a rock right now either, and gave the ghoul a small grin and a nod of acknowledgment before deciding to tease him some more.
“I’m gonna want to wash that in the morning, aren’t I?” He refers to the shirt.
“Someone’s going to be losing their weed privileges, aren’t they?” Phantom shoots right back.
“Touché.”
“Too soon, man, too soon.” Swiss can be heard whining from off to the side of their little standoff.
“Alright, I’m heading off now. Good luck I guess, you’ll need it.” Phantom stretched for a second before grabbing his plate and crackers and heading back towards his room, where there was no doubt a Water ghoul would be awaiting his return.
“We know.” They reply in unison and wave him off before they go grab their harvest and do the same.
Swiss is emptying all of the chips and breadsticks out into two separate bowls when they’re alerted by another door down in the hallway opening, that eerie creak causing their hackles to become raised and their ears to pull back. Dewdrop instinctively put himself between the hallway and his precious cheese singles and meat slices, ready to defend this meal with his life. “Who’s there?” Swiss calls out into the dark hallway.
Their blood runs cold when it’s none other than Mountain who emerges from the dark hallway into the dim, though still much brighter, light of the den, his imposing figure slowly approaching them with heavy steps. Swiss sidesteps over to Dew and holds the Fire ghoul’s hand in his, it was his idea to raid Mountain’s stash and if anyone’s getting their tail ripped off here, it’s going to be him. Before they know it, Mountain is stood right in front of the pair, practically snarling at them as a low rumbling growl permeates throughout the kitchenette. In what is possibly up there amongst the dumbest things he’s ever done when being growled at by a much larger ghoul he’s crossed, Dew reaches behind him blindly, grabbing around until he finds what he hopes will be their saving grace. He picks it up and, wincing as he hopes the Earth ghoul doesn’t just bite his fingers off, presents his peace offering.
“Deli meat?”
Mountain stares at the presented cuts of ham for a good long while, but his decision is finally made when his face softens, rumble dissipating as he lets out a heavy sigh. He wordlessly takes the offering and opens it up, taking a handful of sliced meat for himself before passing it over to Swiss, who only just about manages to hold onto it as he’s still stood there in shock and awe, amazed that Dew’s offering had actually worked as the Earth ghoul scarfed down the ham in record time. It does wonders to show just how hungry a ghoul can get after being mad for hours on end.
Dewdrop feels bold and a little stupid, so he decides to crack out the cheese singles too, and sidles up to Mountain before holding one out to him.
Swiss questions all of his life choices as he stands there in silence while they both watch Mountain eat the entire cheese single within seconds. He hadn’t even removed its plastic covering. Dewdrop was near tears at the horror he was witnessing. This must be their punishment for what they had done, surely.
“You two are just lucky that it wasn’t my main stash.”
“What’s wrong?” Aeon asked.
Dew shivered. The feel of the other ghoul’s hot breath on the back of his neck sent delicious chills down his spine. He snuggled further back, pressing himself against him, needing to feel as much skin against his own as he could manage to.
“I was just thinking. About Aether. I miss him so much.”
Aeon touched his lips to the nape of Dew's neck and held him tighter. His palms skimmed along the skin of his torso and Dew sighed sadly.
This happened sometimes, out of the blue. He’d hear a song or smell a scent or see something that would remind him of his lost pack mate and the blues would set in. He couldn’t say what it had been this time. A dream perhaps? Dew had just woken up in the furs with that profound feeling of loss. The grief that he’d just about learned to live with had managed to claw its way back up from the depths.
“What do you need from me?” Aeon murmured against his skin.
He hadn’t tried to send him any of his quintessential magic to soothe him. He knew that when Dew felt like this, that would be the last thing he wanted.
Dew blinked, feeling a tear escape his eye when he thought of the other ghoul.
The pack were in their den and he and Aeon lay curled up together in a nest of furs on the mezzanine level. The rest of them were downstairs in the main living area.
Dew had woken up countless times over the years in this familiar position, spooning on Aether's bed, or in his own and he tried to blink away the tears that welled up when he thought about it.
Aether had been a different build to Aeon - bigger, bulkier. Darker eyes. He’d always been quick to smile, finding joy and humour in almost every situation and seeing the good in everyone. The position that Dew and Aeon were currently in was both comforting to him and achingly familiar.
Aether had always been a gentle soul, but vibrant. He'd shied away from the uglier sides of life. He had probably been the most selfless ghoul that Dew had ever come across, always there for anyone who needed him – even when they didn’t – and he happily gave all of himself without ever expecting anything in return.
All of the pack had loved him and when he’d been taken from them, it had ripped the very soul from their little family for a time.
Dew sometimes felt guilty for missing Aether when he had Aeon here with him though. In a way, his death had been a final act of selflessness. Without it, the pack wouldn’t have gained Aeon. Dew wouldn’t have found him.
He closed his eyes, exhaling a shaky breath.
“I don’t know,” he said quietly, mindful that the others were asleep downstairs. He turned himself towards Aeon, meeting his eyes. “I’m sorry.”
His brow creased and he huffed.
“Stop tormenting yourself. It’s no use thinking like that. You are allowed to miss him. You are allowed to feel sadness without guilt.”
Of course, Aeon would be able to feel everything he was experiencing right then. Dew couldn’t hide anything from him anymore.
Aeon kissed Dew’s forehead and used the pad of his thumb to wipe away another tear.
“I wish he was still here. But if he was, then I’d never have met you.”
Aeon smiled at him, cupping his cheek. Dew leaned into it, nuzzling his face into his hand.
“Don’t think that way. Remember him and love me. You can do both. It is what it is now. It isn’t going to change. You should never feel guilty about wanting him back. It does not mean that you are wishing away our life together.”
Dew whined, his heart aching. Aeon held his gaze and Dew tried to concentrate on the lines of dark blue that speckled his eyes. They were beautiful and he would never tire of looking at them. The irises were a bright purple and broken up by those darker blue swirls that often seemed to move around as he watched them. They were unusual eyes, even as far as quintessence ghouls went.
The two of them lay there for a while, studying one another. Aeon patiently wiped away the odd tear, sometimes kissing them softly and the ache that Dew felt in his heart for his lost pack brother slowly subsided once again.
He reached over and ran his thumb along Aeon’s bottom lip, tracking the movement as he traced the shape of it. He raised his eyes to his again and watched as the other ghoul’s pupils dilated, swallowing up the purple bit by bit.
“I’m sorry,” Dew whispered again. “I didn’t mean to get all melancholy. I’m so, so glad that you were sent to us after he died.”
Aeon’s lips parted slightly and a slow smile lit up his face. Dew took the unspoken invitation, breaching them with the thumb that still stroked along the bottom one. Aeon bit down playfully on the digit and something changed.
Dew felt the moment that his sadness began to lift and was replaced my something else, something that burned oh so slowly. Before he knew it, it was well on the way to becoming all consuming.
It was longing, he realised. He found himself longing to be loved, longing to feel a connection, longing to be as close as physically possible to someone and longing to be grounded in the here and now. He needed Aeon to take him over and he needed to feel it all.
Dew extracted his thumb from between Aeon’s lips and he waited. The quintessence ghoul narrowed his eyes and searched Dew's face as if trying to figure out what he needed. He leaned in and tentatively touched his lips to Dew’s in a feather light kiss, testing the water to see how he was going to react.
Dew had begun to tremble and he reached up, running the shaking tips of his fingers through the other ghoul’s hair. Aeon’s hands roamed his body lazily, claws gently scraping as he went. The juxtaposition between the sharp points and the delicate touch was not lost on Dew as he savoured the feel of them. The warmth and the drag of calloused palm against his skin never failed to stoke his need and he found himself committing every sensation to memory.
He let Aeon in, kissing him back with more urgency. Dew rolled over and Aeon followed him, coming to rest in the cradle of his body. The weight of him was comforting and Dew got his wish when Aeon made sure to lay his long body against his, skin touching every place that it could. He rested his elbows by Dew’s head and he gave a contented little sigh, wrapping his arms around Aeon’s back and drawing his knees up, hooking his ankles around his waist.
Aeon pulled back from their kiss and Dew whimpered but the other ghoul pressed two fingers against his lips to quiet him. He rested his chin on Dew’s chest and looked up at him through long lashes, a spark of heat burning in his stare.
“Quiet,” he growled softly. “You have something to say, or some sound to make, you do it in my ear. They are mine and I do not want the others hearing what is meant for me.”
Dew groaned, the words making his insides clench. He loved the possessive side of Aeon, he didn't show it too often and Dew's response to it was usually instantaneous. Within seconds it made him a whimpering, leaking mess and right then was no exception.
Aeon nipped his jaw in warning and one of his hands reached between them as he shifted his hips.
Dew squirmed as the fingers that had been used to silence him skimmed down his body, way down. They stroked over his balls and down past his taint. When they breached the tight ring of muscle, Dew let out a low moan. He’d done as he was told though, he nuzzled his cheek against Aeon’s and closed his teeth carefully around the lobe of his ear. He felt him smiling against the skin of his neck as Aeon curled his fingers inside of him.
“Please,” Dew whispered and Aeon shivered.
“What does my little spark need?”
Dew felt a smile spread across his lips. He knew when Aeon broke out the pet names that this was going to be exactly what he needed. The warm glow that he felt already intensified and he used their pack bond to soak up as much of the love and comfort that Aeon offered as he could.
He gasped as Aeon used his fingers to stretch him out, feeling the slick there. The anticipation was almost as sweet as the reward that he knew was coming.
“Need you. Please, Aeon,” he whispered. “I need to feel.”
Dew raked his claws gently down Aeon’s back until he reached his ass. He gripped the skin which earned him a low warning snarl and a roll of the other ghoul’s hips.
“Fuck, Dew,” Aeon said, fangs grazing his neck.
He shifted again, fingers slipping out and rubbing Dew's slick onto the head of his cock.
Aeon moved and propped himself up, putting his forehead to Dew’s and meeting his stare. He smirked, eyes glowing steadily with purple fire. Dew held his breath, feeling Aeon lining himself up, the blunt head of him skimming through the slick that he’d made. Just the thought of this always had him worked up and dripping, hips twitching, blood burning – desperate for whatever Aeon chose to give him.
“Please,” Dew breathed, finding himself begging because if Aeon didn’t fuck him any second now he was going to spontaneously combust. “I’ve been a good boy, haven’t I? Need you inside me. Make me feel better. I need you to love me.”
Aeon put his mouth over Dew’s as he pushed his way in, swallowing down the harsh exhale and the groan he let out as he filled him in one smooth thrust.
Dew's eyes rolled back and he wrapped his arms around Aeon’s back again, clutching him tightly.
This was what he’d needed. The weight of him above him, buried inside of him and curled around him. He’d needed to breathe him in, hands roaming flesh and sweat soaked skin sliding against sweat soaked skin.
He’d needed Aeon to anchor him, just like this.
As Aeon began to move, hips circling and grinding against him, tongue probing and clashing with his, Dew found himself again.
This was his here and now. Flesh dragging against flesh, Aeon’s love and lust and his raw power thrumming through their pack bond. It was the reassurance he needed, reassurance that he was right there with him when he'd needed him and Dew latched right onto his strength. He let it drag him out of the funk he’d been in and he felt himself waking up fully again.
It was Aeon who broke their kiss again, burying his face into the crook of Dew’s neck and breathing him in. He put his teeth around the tendon there and Dew tipped his head back, feeling Aeon hurtling ever closer to the edge of his pleasure.
He was breathing hard, hot breath against Dew’s skin as he ground himself against that place inside of him that made him weak. Dew heard himself whimper and he shoved his fist into his mouth. He bit down into his hand hard enough to leave a mark and when he felt Aeon unravelling it was almost his undoing too.
Not quite though.
Aeon tensed, every muscle straining and he shoved himself impossibly further inside of Dew, cock throbbing as he peaked. He bit down, fangs piercing flesh and Dew made a strangled noise that was muffled by the fist he’d lodged firmly into his mouth.
Aeon groaned, tongue lapping at the wound that he’d made and Dew winced when it stung. He ground his hips at the sensations, always such a slut for the pleasure and the pain that he experienced when Aeon marked him. It was a combination of enjoying the sting and the pride that he felt, knowing that the others would see what a good boy he’d been, that he deserved to be claimed, that he was worthy of it.
“Poor thing,” Aeon murmured. He pulled out slowly and Dew whimpered, not ready to let go of him just yet. He was still aching. “Let me take care of that for you.”
Aeon extracted himself from Dew’s hold, putting his hands in the furs either side of his head and smiling down at him.
“Fuck,” Dew breathed as Aeon sent some of his quintessential magic to him, caressing along his heated skin.
Sometimes when he used it, it felt like a warm breeze teasing his skin or a warm breath against it. Other times it lit up every nerve ending with intensity in all of the very best ways. Now though, it was like a gentle, reverent touch against his oh so sensitive flesh.
Aeon leaned down and kissed Dew’s jaw, working his way down his neck and to his collar bone. He nipped at his pec and rolled his nipple between his teeth, all the while using those delicious tingles of magic to keep Dew close to the edge.
His breath hitched as Aeon kissed and nibbled his way south but when he nipped Dew’s hipbone, a wanton moan escaped him. Aeon growled low, the vibrations making the hairs on Dew's body stand on end.
Oh fuck.
Aeon reached a long arm up and clamped a hand over Dew's mouth. His touch was rougher now and wasn’t that just exquisite?
“I said be quiet,” Aeon hissed against his hip.
Dew’s cry was muffled as Aeon closed his lips around his cock. If he’d been able to form a coherent thought right then, he’d have realised that the others would definitely be aware of what they were doing by now so it would have made no difference anyway.
Aeon got to work, using his hand and his mouth in unison and within minutes Dew could feel himself falling. He looked down and Aeon met his eyes, cheeks hollowed as he worked Dew’s cock, twisting his fist around it as he stroked and sucked.
Dew reached down and grabbed a handful of Aeon’s hair, tugging at him.
Aeon snarled around him, still holding his gaze and the vibrations did it. He felt it in his gut first, that sublime tension that builds and builds and spreads outwards. His sole focus became Aeon’s mouth around him, his tongue and his lips and the sensation of pleasure.
He couldn’t take any more, the vibrations became too much and Dew’s eyes rolled back as the orgasm hit, radiating outwards from Aeon.
The hand over Dew's mouth tightened as he cried out Aeon’s name, the waves of pleasure making him lose control and forget all about being quiet or waking the others or even who the fuck he was.
He must have died for a second, he was sure of it.
“I think you killed me,” he said when he came back down. He'd thrown his arm across his eyes to shield them. “I think I just died.”
Aeon snorted a laugh and kissed his hip.
“Don’t be so dramatic, Dew,” he said, crawling his way back up his body.
He lay himself along him and Dew glanced at him from under the crook of his elbow.
“Fuck off, Aeon. You killed me. End of.”
Aeon shrugged and flopped down dramatically beside him, heaving a heavy sigh.
“You’re welcome.”
