Hey everyone! I hope you’re all having a fantastic Thursday. For the first time in what feels like forever I finally will have the entire weekend off and I can’t wait to spend it here with you guys. And in honor of this, I will be holding a special Application Review/Acceptance Weekend! Can’t think of a better way to spend the next couple days than promoting and getting new members and characters in and preparing some new plot drops and events to keep our overall plot rolling forward and encourage more interactions. While I update pages, I have some thoughts and some reminders to share for all our lovely current (and future) players. Please read everything thoroughly as these updates are rather important.:
First and foremost, I want to remind everyone that bubble roleplaying is NOT acceptable in any way shape or form in this roleplay. As I know each and every one of you and have had the chance to speaking to each of you, I feel that no one here would intentionally keep others out or refuse to interact with others on purpose, but day to day it seems this problem continues to persist. It is your responsibility as members of this group roleplay to try and go out of your way to respond to starters and threads from everyone and not just a select few. I know that with all the different time zones and with finicky muses this can seem a difficult task and that there are some (like myself) that perhaps are shy and feel intimidated by the other members of this game, but if we don’t make an effort to interact with as many people as possible then this roleplay can’t prosper. I know I’m equally guilty of it and want everyone to know that I too will work very hard to do my part to make everyone feel welcomed and important and part of this game. This roleplay isn’t possible without you guys and the combined effort of everyone interacting and plotting together. I challenge everyone to message someone they haven’t had threads with or haven’t plotted with, get to know that person and start something. You may be surprised by what you find. Please continue to give all potential connections a chance, and reach out to any new members/characters join our ranks the second their follow is posted. To help with this, I also want to remind everyone that there is a starter rule: you must respond to three starters before posting a new one of your own. My suggestion is to always check the starter tag when you log in, every time. If you see newer starters or starters from the recent past with few notes or written by characters you haven’t interacted heavily with yet - respond to them immediately. After replying to three, then commence with your replies or post a new starter. We ask you don’t post more than two starters a week - per character. This is to encourage as many people to interact and respond to as many starters from as many members as possible. The only case where this rule can be ignored is if there is an event. But we expect you to always remember this rule and follow it closely. We’re going to start making note of bubble behavior and will be dealing out warnings, but I think that everyone here is kind and open and shouldn’t have a serious problem with this. Please be considerate of others - no one wants to feel like they or their character(s) is/are unimportant, and often time bubble roleplaying has this effect. So if you see a starter in the tag with fewer than 20 notes, consider replying to it instead of your friend’s starter and consider the interactions and connections that can come from it! To lead by example, I will do my best to reply to as many starters as I can with my characters. I challenge everyone to do the same. On top of this I’m going to start considering weekly prompts/challenges that will pair up unlikely member whether in pairs or groups to encourage more random interactions. If this sounds like something you guys would be interested in, let me know. Or if you have any suggestions, don’t hesitate to send them to the main as we are always open to ideas from our wonderful members.
On another note; I ask all members to please make sure that their submit box is open on each of their characters’ pages. For some events and plot drops, (including these potential challenges/prompts) we will need to submit things straight to the characters so please open your submit and allow text and photo posts to be submitted through. Very very soon in the not so distant future there may be some special owls popping up in several people’s submits, so keep your eyes peeled! But of course it’s only possible if everyone’s submit box is open so please do that as soon as you read this post.
Now since human error is common, I ask that everyone also check into the stats page on the main (accessible from the navigation) and let us know if your character isn’t listed under the appropriate alliance. This needs to be done by tomorrow night so the sooner the better. On the topic of the stats page, after much consideration I've decided to add Five More Pureblood Slots to the Roleplay. Applicants will have five more chances to apply as a Pureblood before an official ban is set.
On that note, please remember to continue to plot and interact beyond your character’s alliance. While it’s fun to plan Death Eater connections and to discuss the Order IC with another member, the true thrill is in friends and family dancing around one another because one is secretly a Death Eater and the other is aligning with the Order or Dumbledore’s Army. It creates a favorable amount of IC Drama and I encourage you to have fun with it. Obviously don’t have your Death Eater character reveal themselves to their DA/Order friend and vice versa, but keep up an equal amount of interactions despite alliances. The war is still dormant, so there is no reason for Death Eaters to not interact with Order or DA members and vice versa. And please remember how vast the Wizarding World is. While it may be hard to consider Hogwarts students leaving the castle to meet with graduated friends, be creative and attempt ways to work things out. Saturdays will be Hogsmeade days, so you’re welcome to have your student character meet up with a graduate friend or bump into a graduate character beyond the castle. And graduates you’re always welcome to visit Hogwarts. Just because you’re playing a student, doesn’t mean you can’t plot with graduates and vice versa. Keep it open and be welcoming to all sorts of ideas - You may find a really incredible connection and plot through that.
As I always say - you guys are awesome and this game isn’t possible without you. Continue to be interactive and if you have any concerns, please contact the main off anon. While I understand it can be intimidating to contact us directly or perhaps more freeing to go under anonymous there is little we as admins can do to help you when you hide behind the anon button. It’s simplest to work out anything if you just come off anon, and want to encourage members to start going this route in order for any issues to be quickly and properly worked out. My biggest concern is making sure everyone is happy here and passive aggressive or vague anons just won’t do it. If you have a problem, instead of sending an anonymous message just use messenger to communicate your issue and we will work hard with you to make sure it’s resolved in a timely and efficient manner.
I love y'all and appreciate every contribution you make to this wonderful roleplay. It simply wouldn’t be anything without each and every one of you guys, and I’m very glad to have you all here. Never stop being awesome, friends.
Much love, Admins R and Brie

pulling out literary stops for carter’s lamb chop lollipops
by leonardbartenstein
Ali Larter is well known for her parts in Legally Blonde, Heroes, and Resident Evil, but what she might not be known as well is for her role as a writer, and a great contributor to the new canon of American literature. Her book "Kitchen Revelry: A Year of Festive Menus from My Home to Yours" is a groundbreaking piece of literature that blends words, pictures, and experiences to create a nearly sublime experience that makes the reader feel as if they are a part of the narrative.   This book begins with an explanation of what a reveler actually is—it is one who “loves sharing their passion for good times.”  This is an optimistic start to the book, which offsets the dark themes that Larter deals with later in the text.  An underlying motif she relies on is the dangers of alcoholism, which lingers behind each of the “good times” she mentions. This is evident in whether she’s describing how to “add the vermouth and shake vigorously to coat the ice” or how to “spoon 3 vodka-infused raspberries and 1 tablespoon of the raspberry vodka into each of the 12 champagne glasses”. This slightly sinister undertone in her recipes display the revelry she describes.   That is not to say, however, that there is no happiness to the narrative. The protagonist, unnamed narrator, is able to gladly share hidden ingredients, revealing: “…these mashed potatoes have a secret ingredient: baking soda.” She takes on a playful tone, noting that there’s no way any of her guests would suspect what’s inside their “traditional” fluffy potatoes at her Thanksgiving feast. The coy narrator’s subtext also lays character development for the later, more romantic chapters.   These sensual parts are borderline erotic, where in chapter, “Sweethearts Soirée,” her lines tell you to keep “whisking until creamy and smooth” and not “shy[ing] away from trying more creative toppings, like figs and brie” in order to create a scandalous masterpiece that might make a more reserved reader flush completely red. This connection with others reaches a sort of sublime sexuality when the narrator even not-so-subtly hints at the orgy she fantasizes about having: “Allow each guest to spread sauce atop the dough round or prepared crust and scatter the desired toppings over the sauce.” It’s not hard to imagine what she’d like on top in her saucy imaginings, but it’s more interesting to look deeper into her love life and the connections she is looking to make. In the suggestive party she plans, her goal is to fulfill her fantasies which isn’t necessarily to “spread sauce” with her friends and loved ones, but it is rather to connect with them as if they were one person rather than a collection of people. The narrator strives, with her actions and musings, to reach a sort of sublime version of friendship that seems to be; to her at least, the only way she could accurately and completely love others.   Her pursuit of sublimity in interpersonal relationships is most interestingly examined in the context of the conclusion, in which she throws one last party in a dark and frantic attempt to contain all of the interrelational nirvana she’s been striving for--her “midsummer’s night dream.” This section of the book is darker and more condensed than the rest, focusing on the ways in which, in pursuit of a night that “will never end.”  However, this darker party, with synesthesia of mint, strawberry, Parmesan, lamb chop, tomato, fig, and raspberries combines to a cacophony that creates a perversion of this ideal for which the narrator is craving. By the end, in fact, she is exhausted, spent, and in a place almost detached from not only her surroundings but—and more importantly to the narrator, for sure—disconnected from the people she loves. That revelry is the interaction everyone truly craves, and this book is the type of emotional roller coaster that will have any voracious reader coming back for second helpings.   This would have been a good place to end the book if Larter had wanted to leave a pessimistic view of this pursuit. However, this book is not a tragedy, and Larter allows her narrator to find the true meaning of revelry. Rather than trying to go out of her way to entertain and spread herself thin like a pâté on crostini, she comes to the revelation that “You can make up any excuse to entertain. No pressure to make it a big thing and get all stressed out.” She is able to spend some time with her husband and child, focusing only on the people who are most important to her, and finds in that true revelry.
