With a farewell to the long season of Winter comes a welcoming embrace to Spring, a time always filled with joy and light. There’s still a lot you can do to bring joy and light to your life and some people are willing to help with that.
On March 20th, the staff of the Jung Community&Cultural Center announced their plans for a special Spring event open to the public! The center is located in the Jung District, one known for bringing together both old and new with huge buildings and malls but also a variety of historic sites. With this in mind, the staff members always plan the best and most entertaining ways to get people to have fun while learning. For you to get into this event, all that’ll be required of you are high spirits and an attentive mind!
The headquarters has only two floors with a few rooms each, but they were all prepared to welcome every interested person during the weekend between April 5th and 7th. Each room will host a specific activity that a limited number of people may participate in — but do not fret! All activities are set to only take an hour, meaning everyone will have the opportunity to take part in everything! The doors will open each day at 9am and the last activity will go until 9pm. The small cafeteria serves healthy and delicious food at a reasonable price, but visitors are allowed to bring their own lunch or go eat somewhere else. Leaving in the middle of the day does not stop you from returning at another time.
Below you’ll be able to find a list of the activities available at the Jung Community&Cultural Center Spring event.
PAINTING CLASS A small canvas will be given along with a variety of pictures with native birds you can choose from to paint.
HANJI CRAFTING An explanation to hanji can be found here. The objects available for crafting are the ones seen in this image. All materials will already be cut and ready to be used, so all visitors will have to do is glue the parts together and decorate the piece however they’d like.
DANCE CLASS Dance instructors will teach the main points of the choreographies to “Holiday” by ChiChi and “Remember” by She’z. These will intercalate between the activities time slots, so if in one hour they’re teaching ‘Holiday’ the next class will be for ‘Remember’.
KOREAN CALLIGRAPHY Unlike writing as you normally would, visitors will use cursive script to write their names (or anything else they prefer) using ink and a brush, as seen here. The instructor will also be offering to write it for free to take home.
FOLKTALES STORYTIME These will not be restricted to the one-hour slots, and anyone who’s interested may join the reading of korean folktales in the reading room. These will be focused for children, but all are welcome to join.
COOKING CLASS You must sign up for this class if you’re interested. Each participant will learn how to make kimbap. A variety of fillings will be available to use, and once you’re done you may leave. As people leave, the ones on the waiting list will be called for their turn. This will not take an hour, meaning participants may not be in the same step of the process at the same time.
Apart from the activities, there’ll also be a stand where the staff will be selling keychains made in jagae style (an explanation to jagae can be found here). The center will also be accepting donations in the form of money to help with the upkeep of the center or clothes/food/toys to be donated to charity. No donation is needed to take part in the event, but is always well appreciated!
To earn +2 POINTS TO DISTRIBUTE AS YOU WISH, write a four post thread or a 250+ words solo about your muse attending at least one of the activities in the Jung District Community Center for their Spring event. For an extra +2 CHARISMA POINTS, write a four post thread with a character your muse has never interacted with before. Relationships may be pre-established, but they must not have written content with each other. Please tag all your posts related to the event with #rkcomcenter and have them up by midnight EST at the end of April 10th. Threads may be continued after the deadline, but after April 10th points can no longer be collected. Have fun
