Details of Isfahan…
Exquisite Persian Muqarnas
"Muqarnas is an ornamentation element applied in Islamic architecture. It fills the inner parts of semi-domes with its honeycomb shape. Historically, muqarnas grew in their decorative use in the 12th century during Islam’s golden age."

This is so cool. It almost looks like a moth. Or a fractal. And it lead me down a brief browse of Muqarnas decoration, which has some truly stunning examples. I don't know if it's polite to lie flat on your back under these things to stare up at them (I assume not), but I would be so tempted. The effect is stunning.

the kavetham brainrot is real, I have multiple foreign language tests this week and I’m starting two new courses but instead I’ve been researching architectural styles of the middle east, north africa, and southeast asia to be able to write this akademiya era fic because Kaveh is a genius and a passionate prodigy and I refuse to not write him as such.
after multiple hours of research and a lot of reading, I am now extremely angry and disappointed about how genshin dropped the ball with indo-islamic architecture in the rainforest, it could’ve been so colorful and beautiful and connected to real architecture. but it’s so orientalist in game. ironically the desert is better in terms of architectural adhesion to real cultures. pls ask me about it im going crazy

Repost @architectanddesign
"From thousands of years ago until now, the architecture of a land has represented both the land and its nation. Each architectural style has its own elements and parameters, and #Iranian architecture is no exception. It is one of the oldest, most original, and most influential styles in the world, with a history spanning over 6,000 years. Notable features include huge arches, tall columns, and geometric designs involving complex mathematical calculations. This rich history shows the creativity of ancient builders and continues to inspire people today." 📸: @ghasem.baneshi

Uzbekistan (2) (3) by Caspar Tromp
Via Flickr:
(1) (2) Bukhara - Chor Minor madrasah from the 1800s. It is said that the Uzbek commissioner of this building was inspired by the Indian monuments he saw there when trading in India. Hence the four quirky minarets which have no parallels in Uzbekistan. (3) Tashkent's Soviet era metro stations are among the most beautiful in the world. Noticeable are the reference to its traditional, Iranian-Islamic architecture, such as the muqarna capitals on the columns.

The Great Theater, Hans Poelzig, Berlin (1919)
Hans Poelzig's Großes Schauspielhaus in Berlin (1919) was a fascinating translation of geological-cavernous patterns into architecture, with its red-painted domed space decorated with stalactite-like muqarnas and lovely light columns, which resembled natural fountains
