[ad_1] Shami in his bowling stride. Source (X)   Constant rain and wet outfields have been a bugbear for Karnataka in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. Only 215 overs were bowled in the Karnataka-Madhya Pradesh game and that was followed by another rained-off match against Kerala in Alur. Although Karnataka went on to win their next game against Bihar convincingly, they are currently placed third, just outside the qualification berths. In that context, the Bengal-Karnataka encounter at the Chinnaswamy gains significance as both sides need a victory. Karnataka are also in the middle of a transition phase.  Experienced players like S Sharath and R Samarth have decided to try their luck somewhere else. There have been a few injury issues too, especially concerns surrounding VidwathKaverappa’s shin problem. “There have been many challenges this season, one is the weather,” Yere Goud, the head coach, toldRevSportz. “The second factor is injuries; Vidwath is injured. Sharath has moved out, so we had to bring in a new wicketkeeper-batter in Sujay. Samarth has also left us, Devdutt[Padikkal] has gone to the A tour, so there is an opportunity for some other batters. “We needed some quick runs in a rain-curtailed game, yes, we brought in Abhinav Manohar. It is a transition phase, but everyone is mature enough. Probably, from here on, every game is a knockout game for us.We have to do well in the remaining four games, if we have to qualify for semi-finals.” Among the younger lot, Nikin Jose has shown some promise. The top-order bat composed a fine hand of 99 while facing Madhya Pradesh. Karnataka would also look towards Manish Pandey and Mayank Agarwal to provide heft to the batting unit. If Karnataka have eight points, then Bengal have just five and are sitting in fourth spot.  Abhimanyu Easwaran, the veteran opener who cracked a hundred against Uttar Pradesh, is currently with the India A set-up. So, the onus will be on Sudip Chaterjee, S Gharami and Shahbaz Ahmed to take the responsibility of scoring runs. The narrative surrounding the eagerly anticipated game isn’t just about how both states are in a spot of bother in terms of the points table, but also about Bengal not picking Mohammed Shami. The experienced Indian fast bowler has been battling a serious ankle injury over the last one year. There were hopes that he would make it to the playing XI for this Ranji game. However, it was eventually decided that he would miss out on a couple more domestic matches. At 34, Shamifaces an uphill battle to return to complete fitness as he continues his rehabilitation. Anustup Majumdar, the captain of the team, struggling to find his touch would be a worry for the Bengal set-up. In the bowling line-up, Bengal aren’t just missing out on the services of Shami, as Mukesh Kumar is with the India A squad Down Under. Mohammed Kaif and Shahbaz would be a couple of their vital cogs. So, who will emerge triumphant in the crucial clash? Karnataka are playing on their home ground at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, and they have gained a little bit of momentum from their previous encounter. Bengal, though, might have other ideas. BCCI Announces 15-Member India A Squad for Australia Tour, Gaikwad to Captain
The BCCI has named a 15-member India A squad for the Australia tour, captained by Ruturaj Gaikwad, with Abhimanyu Easwaran as vice-captain. The squad, which includes Ishan Kishan, Mukesh Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed, and Devdutt Padikkal, will compete in two four-day matches in Mackay and Melbourne against Australia A, followed by a three-day intra-squad game with the Indian senior team in Perth.
The tour aims to provide young and fringe players valuable exposure to Australian conditions and prepare a reserve squad for potential senior team injuries.
Gaikwad’s leadership offers an opportunity for him to showcase his ability ahead of the upcoming international fixtures. Ishan Kishan’s inclusion after his recent success in the Asia Cup will also be a focal point.
The team’s pace attack, led by Mukesh Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed, is well-rounded, and with spin options like Tanush Kotian and Manav Suthar, the team has a balanced composition. This tour serves as a platform for young players to make a mark in tough overseas conditions and potentially earn a place in the senior squad for future series.
The first match will be played from October 31 to November 3, and the second from November 7 to 10. The three-day match simulation from November 15 to 17 with the Indian senior team will act as an integration exercise, giving the A-team players a chance to learn from their senior counterparts.
This tour marks a key development opportunity, especially for players aiming for long-term roles in India’s Test setup.

Sarfaraz Khan Handed Test Cap By Anil Kumble. Father Can't Control His Tears
It was a huge moment for Sarfaraz Khan as the 26-year-old batter was handed his debut ahead of the third Test match between India and England in Rajkot on Thursday. Sarfaraz enjoyed an exceptional run of form in the domestic circuit over the last couple of years and he was handed his Test cap by legendary spinner Anil Kumble just before the toss. With Shreyas Iyer, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul all missing out, Sarfaraz will partner with Rajat Patidar and fellow debutant Dhruv Jurel in the middle order. Sarfaraz's father was present at the ground and he could not control his tears during the ceremony.
Tumblr media
India won the toss and elected to bat against England in the third Test of the five-match series.
We're going to bat first. We've made some changes, made four changes. Some injuries and some guys coming back from the last game. Two debutants. Siraj and Jadeja are back. Axar Patel and Mukesh Kumar miss out. Looks a good pitch, better than the last two we've played on. Rajkot is known to be a good pitch but it'll deteriorate as it goes. The guys have stood up and done the job for the team when it was needed. The next three Test matches will be as exciting as the first two. Need to keep our focus here and see how we can do well," India skipper Rohit Sharma said at the toss.
The series is locked at 1-1 as England captain Ben Stokes is appearing in his 100th Test.
India handed debuts to middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan, a heavy scorer in domestic cricket for Mumbai, and young wicketkeeper batter Dhruv Jurel, who will replace KS Bharat in the playing eleven.
England have brought back pacer Mark Wood in place of young spinner Shoaib Bashir.

Jadeja, Mukesh Come In As South Africa Opt To Bat First Vs India In Elgar’s Farewell Test
Tumblr media
Newlands Cricket Ground: South Africa captain Dean Elgar won the toss in his farewell Test match and elected to bat against India in the second and final Test of the series at Newlands Cricket Ground here on Wednesday. India have made two changes from the playing eleven they fielded in the first Test, where they lost by an innings and 32 runs at SuperSport Park in Centurion inside three days. Left-arm spin all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja replaces veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, while pacer Mukesh Kumar comes in for seam-bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur. Jadeja had not played the first Test due to an upper back spasm and his return gives India more of batting depth, apart from left-arm spin bowling to complement the right-arm fast-bowling quarter. India needs to win the Cape Town Test to avoid a 2-0 series sweep. Captain Rohit Sharma said he would have batted first as well if he had won the toss. “Looks a good pitch. We understand the challenge of batting first on that pitch, but nevertheless, there will be enough in the pitch for the seamers, so hopefully we'll cash in on it.” “Important to forget what's happened in the past. We understand the importance of getting runs on the board, and getting 20 wickets. Didn't happen in the first game but we're upbeat about what we can achieve here.” In Elgar’s last Test match, South Africa have handed a debut to batter Tristan Stubbs, as Temba Bavuma is ruled out due to a left hamstring injury. The hosts’ have also brought in pacer Lungi Ngidi, and left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj in place of injured fast-bowler Gerald Coetzee and Keegan Petersen respectively. Maharaj is also marking his 50th Test match appearance for South Africa. “Pitch looks interesting. We're in a great position. Can't win a two-match series if you don't win the first - we've crossed that hurdle. Scoreboard starts on nought. We all know that. Starting well is going to be key against this Indian side,” said Elgar. Elgar tries to finish the series strong and on a high note
In the second and final test, Dean Elgar will try to cap off his career as a test captain by leading South Africa to win against an India team that is expected to make at least two changes.
The tourists’ chances of winning a series in South Africa for the first time were completely shattered last Thursday when they lost the opening test by an innings and thirty-two runs.
Tumblr media
We’ll be fired up to bid Elgar a triumphant farewell from South Africa.
The 36-year-old, who will skipper the team in lieu of the injured Temba Bavuma, is in excellent form after amassing a stunning 185 in the opening test.
It appears that India will improve their bowling assault.
Offspinner Ravichandran Ashwin is likely to make a comeback, with left-arm spin bowling all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja taking his place.
On the first day of the first test, Jadeja experienced a back spasm prior to play.
Jadeja is a good bowler and will give India’s batting, which collapsed in Centurion, more depth.
It is also probable that India will alter their bowling lineup by at least one additional player.
All-rounder Shardul Thakur and rookie Prasidh Krishna did not provide Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj with the necessary support to retain some measure of control in Centurion.
Mukesh Kumar and Avesh Khan are scheduled to perform at Newlands, at least one of them.
Avesh was brought into the team following his outstanding play in the one-day series victory for India that preceded the test matches. The previous week, he took five wickets for India A against South Africa A.
India’s batters, with the exception of KL Rahul and Virat Kohli, didn’t appear to be prepared to handle South Africa’s quick-witted attack.
In South Africa, Captain Rohit Sharma was removed twice for five and zero by Kagiso Rabada, demonstrating his persistent struggles.
Sharma has only managed 128 runs at an average of 12.80 in five tests played in South Africa, against a test average of 45.45 worldwide.
Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, and Yashasvi Jaiswal—three young batsmen—all appeared susceptible against the quick bowlers.
While bowlers might still anticipate some help, conditions at Newlands are unlikely to favor fast bowling as much as they did at Centurion.
Despite being mowed before the game, the field was covered in green grass on Monday.
In addition to Bavuma, the fast bowler Gerald Coetzee (who sustained a pelvic injury during South Africa’s three-day victory) will not be available for the hosts.
Keshav Maharaj is a left-arm spin bowler, so South Africa will need to make room for him and determine whether to replace Bavuma with a specialist hitter.
Marco Jansen will bat at No. 7 and serve as an all-rounder; either Zubayr Hamza or Tristan Stubbs will bat first, or they will choose to field five bowlers.
It was determined that Lungi Ngidi had not entirely healed from an ankle injury, therefore he is anticipated to be eligible for selection.

India beats South Africa by 78 runs, wins series 2-1
The Proteas lost all of their wickets in 45.5 overs while chasing a target of 297 runs. Tony de Zorzi (81) scored the most runs for South Africa, while Aiden Markram scored 36 crucial runs. Aside from that, no other batter shone in the third match. Arshdeep Singh grabbed four wickets for India, while Avesh Khan and Washington Sundar both took two. Mukesh Kumar and Axar Patel each took one wicket.
Tumblr media
Arshdeep Singh is named Player of the Match after taking 10 wickets in the series. Meanwhile, Sanju Samson is named Player of the Match after scoring 108 runs in 114 balls. Sanju Samson scored a century to lead India to 296 for eight in the third and final ODI against South Africa.
Sent into bat, India lost both openers early before Samson (108 off 114 balls), his maiden ODI century, and Tilak Varma (52 off 77 balls) contributed to India’s progress. For the visitors, Rinku Singh (38 off 27) also contributed. Beuran Hendricks (3/63) was South Africa’s standout bowler, while Nandre Burger (2/64) also took two wickets.
Earlier, South Africa won the toss and chose to bowl in the third and final One-Day International against India. Rajat Patidar made his first ODI appearance for India, replacing opener Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Gaikwad received a finger injury while fielding in the second ODI.”Ruturaj Gaikwad hasn’t fully recovered from the blow to his ring finger while fielding in the second ODI.” “He remains under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team,” according to an earlier BCCI report.
Washington Sundar was also named to the starting eleven in lieu of Kuldeep Yadav. Tilak Varma (52) helped Sanju Samson score 108 runs in 114 balls. Rinku Singh (38) hit some crucial runs to help India reach 296/8 in 50 overs.

[ad_1] From Left: Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Prasidh Krishna. Source: X If there is something that draws attention immediately to the Indian squad for the tour of Australia, it’s the number of fast bowlers. For the five-Test series, there are five in the side of 18 — Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Prasidh Krishna and Harshit Rana. Plus, Mukesh Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed and Navdeep Saini have been added as travelling reserves. From the outside, eight pace options is an unusually high number. Rarely, possibly never, have India travelled with so many of them. Obviously, only five are the first-choice options, but effectively, the team can choose from eight if need be. Five Tests over a month and-a-half is a gruelling tour and the team management wants to make sure that they are not short on resources in case of breakdowns. On one hand, this appears to be a safety-first approach. Other than Bumrah and Siraj, the other three in the primary squad are newcomers. Deep has played four Tests, Prasidh two and Rana none. Of the reserves, Mukesh has the experience of three Tests, Saini two, while Khaleel the left-armer, is yet to play any. The number of bowlers is high, but their cumulative Test experience is low. This suggests that the team management and selectors don’t want to take chances. Apparently, they are not sure how many of these bowlers will be up to the mark and that’s why they have packed the squad with so many of them. This may look like some sort of lack of faith in their abilities. If A doesn’t click, B will and if B doesn’t, then C will and so on. On the other hand, this can also be seen as a wise decision. Some of the Indian fast bowlers are injury-prone and this includes Bumrah, who is unquestionably the best of the lot. Five Test matches on hard Australian grounds can test their body. Chances of niggles in the lower parts like calf, knee and ankle are high. The team may need back-ups in that case and they will be readily available under this arrangement. In this context, the 2020-21 series Down Under comes to mind. A number of players suffered injuries on that tour and India still snatched a remarkable come-from-behind win, riding on the performances of the reserves. Saini was one of them back then. T Natarajan was another. Not part of the original squad, they made their presence count when the first-choice bowlers were not fit for selection. For More Sports Related Content Click here After India won that series, experts like Ian Chappell had reckoned that one reason was the limited options used by Australia. He had said that because the hosts used the same four bowlers in all four Tests, they were not as fit or fresh as their Indian counterparts. Not by choice, but by compulsion India had to field many bowlers, which worked to their advantage. The other positive of having so many fast bowlers is from the point of view of grooming them. As can be seen, only two of the eight have sufficient experience of playing at this level. The other six have a combined experience of 11 Tests between them. It’s important for them to get a feel of what is required at the highest level. Being with the team can be a great way of learning. With uncertainty over the future of Mohammed Shami and Bumrah not getting any younger, it’s important for India to form a pool of fast bowlers for the future. A tour of Australia is a great opportunity to assess the resources, even if not all of them get a chance to play. That way, the positives of carrying so many of them outweigh the negatives. [ad_1] Mukesh Kumar, the Bengal pacer, was handed his Test cap ahead of the second match against West Indies on Thursday at the Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad. Mukesh replaced Shardul Thakur, who BCCI said was not available for selection due to an injury. "Shardul Thakur was not available for selection for the 2nd Test due to a sore left groin," BCCI said right after the toss. Shardul's injury, however, turned out to be a blessing in disguise for both India and Mukesh Kumar. Mukesh Kumar made his debut in India vs West Indies 2nd Test The right-arm pacer had managed to break into the Indian Test side even before but didn't get to play a game. This was perhaps the last Test where India could get a look at him before their next assignment against South Africa five months later. Who is Mukesh Kumar? In the 39 first-class matches that he has played so far, Mukesh has picked up 149 wickets at an impressive average of 21.55. After playing a key role in taking Bengal to two Ranji Trophy finals in the last three seasons, Mukesh found himself in the India A team. There too he impressed one and all with five-wicket hauls against New Zealand A and Bangladesh A. He has taken 18 wickets at an average of 17.50 for India A. Mukesh, who was born in Gopalganj, Bihar, made his IPL debut for the Delhi Capitals in 2023. In the 10 matches that he played for DC, he picked up 7 wickets. He is known to be a workhorse in domestic cricket and someone who can bowl on one spot over after over in tough conditions. "Unfortunately, Shadul has pulled up. He is not fit. Mukesh Kumar will make his debut. A very talented guy, who has worked really hard in domestic cricket. So hopefully, we can get behind him," Rohit said after the toss, which West Indies won and opted to bowl first. Mukesh Kumar not the only debutant in India vs West Indies 2nd TestMukesh was not the only debutant in the series-deciding second Test match. Spin-bowling al-rounder Kirk McKenzie was handed his Test cap. He replaced Raymon Reifer while veteran pacer Shannon Gabriel came into the side in place of Rahkeem Cornwall who had had some health issues during the series opener. “Kirk McKenzie makes his debut today, he's ready and raring to go. Bowling-wise we were decent. The first game is gone, we got to be mentally ready for the challenge. We had a few chats, we got to believe in ourselves,” said West Indies captain Brathwaite. Virat Kohli's 500th match and 100th Test between India and West IndiesThis Test match is also a historic one for more reasons than one. It is the 100th Test match between the two great cricket nations and also marks the 500th international match for Virat Kohli. The captains and players of West Indies and India were felicitated ahead of the start of the match on Thursday. “What really makes this rivalry special is the fans. Even if they are not able to come to watch the matches, they still talk about Test cricket. I haven't played here in 12 years and still some of them meet me, remind me about my stats and make me feel good,” said India head coach Rahul Dravid. “It's a historic moment. There is so much history between the two teams. Over the years, we have seen some really cricket be it in India or in West Indies. I made my debut against them. We hope we can continue the legacy of the former players,” said India captain Rohit Sharma.
