I think the biggest thing I've learnt from the more critical side of MHA is: don't let your favoritism affect your story. I think it's natural that you're gonna like more characters than others. But if it's like noticeable to a point where the audience sees it, it's a big problem. Or if the character is a fan favorite, they'll praise it to sky heaven. The fact that Izuku VS Shigaraki has been oddly side lined so much in favor of Bakugo VS OFA or him rescuing All Might is... weird to me. Like, I get it. He was dead for a year in our time. But... this IS Izuku's story not Bakugo's. Even if Bakugo is a deuteragonist, he's still not the MAIN protagonist. Shouldn't we be shifting more or less to Izuku VS Shigaraki? MHA has been building up their final fight for 8-9 years, and we're oddly all focused on AFO and Bakugo? And for AFO's backstory, I care less for the potato man. Shigaraki is the villain of MHA, not potato man. Such as Izuku is the protagonist of the story, Bakugo isn't. And it's so baffling to me to see MHA twt praise this series to high heaven and just don't oddily notice that Izuku is just oddily fucking quiet through out this fight?? I know he's focused on stopping Shigaraki, but nothing???? Like the Toga and Uraraka and Todoroki Family arcs got all the attention they deserved, so why tf isn't Izuku and Shigaraki?? I understand they were gonna be last, it IS the final battle after all, but it just seems it's gonna go downhill from there.
Plus, how tf is Izuku gonna be able to save Shigaraki?? Izuku is at his witt's end, and Bakugo said he would take care of AFO. Because if it's ACTUALLY Bakugo & Izuku VS Shigaraki. I'll just- I'll be so done. I get the whole "Izuku doesn't have to do everything on his own" but like- Shigaraki literally KILLED Bakugo and got revived from his goddamn blood exploding. (That shit is still funny to me.) like good Lord, can Izuku just have HIS moment??? If all of the cool power ups and cool moments go to Bakugo instead of Izuku, and Bakugo somehow saves the day.
The fucking ending is gonna be ruined by favoritism. Again, this is just an IF. But I felt crazy reading twt's and no one noticing Izuku hasn't said anything of a) Bakugo being brought back to life b) or just reacting to anything. It just seems like Izuku is just there as a device to carry us towards the ending, at this point.
You're right and you should say it.
Mind-boggling how people will look at this shit and still say Horikoshi doesn't favor Bakugou. Like, what? He is 1-v-1-ing the big bad of the series. The villain who killed almost every past OFA user (would also like to add that these are the same users he insulted and looked down on, so if he is the one to finish AFO, that's a slap in the face to every single one of them). The man who incapacitated All Might. The Demon King who's ruled the underbelly of Japan for the past 200 years.
And you mean to tell me that Katsuki Bakugou of all people is his final boss? That's just embarrassing for AFO tbh.
But the fact of the matter is, yeah Izuku's fight with Shigaraki should have been the main event. Instead, it's being treated as a side quest. Hell, it's being treated as less than a side quest as both Uraraka & Toga and the Todorokis & Dabi were given more attention.
It's sad, not only for Izuku but for Shigaraki too. Horikoshi was so close to making him a complex villain, only for all of his character progression from Deika to go down the toilet. He can't be saved because he's been written to be so completely detached from his humanity.
In general, Izuku and Shigaraki should have had more moments together throughout the series. This interaction between them is meaningless because Izuku doesn't understand Shigaraki enough to save him. It's why he's getting frustrated because there's really no feasible way for him to save Tomura. He isn't Eri or Kota who were just kids in danger and who wanted to be rescued.
I hate to say it, but Izuku hasn't had enough development to be able to save Shigaraki. It's not his fault (it's Hori's), but it's true. For him to understand Tomura, he needed to broaden his worldview and Horikoshi hasn't allowed him to do that.
It's an utter disservice to both characters

🐝🐝 It's been a while since I made this blog and I haven't actually written anything, even tho that's its purpose.
So instead of doing research on stuff for my Hazbin Hotel OC, let's start building a story.
First is the magic system:
Seeing as I am a bee an animal lover, let's have it revolve around that.
I've had the idea of an mha oc who can manipulate their dna, which they mostly use to copy animalistic traits, so let's take that and give it a name - Mimics.
Mimics are people who are capable of replacing parts of themselves with a human-sized version of a body part from a specific animal. If you don't have that body-part you still have to get rid of something.
An example could be... Let's say there's a mantis-shrimp mimic. Now obviously no bee no human owns a claw, so to have its "ballers" you need to still get rid of something, like a leg. This is great for combat if you're going for a kick: the added momentum of your leg + the release of the "latch muscle" + the now human size of it, even without cavitation it'd still be incredibly strong. Not sure how strong but I'm guessing "bone-breaking" strong. (Not to mention you could use it to jump really high.)
Next let's give an alternative, like another school of magic.
What if you could control the animals instead. They can be called - Tamers.
Tamers are people who can very clearly control animals. But like mimics, it's a specific animal. But they still need something that can make them useful...
Humans...
Humans are animals too, so what if we had a Human tamer as an antagonist.
Obviously Mimics are seen as stronger, so they might be people who are praise, while the Tamers are more often than not shunned, they main uses are being farmers and pest/animal control.
More on that another time.
I think it'd be less mind-control and more... persuasion. You're capable of speaking to that species, and yes you are naturally more persuasive, but you need to practice to get better. Maybe at some point you could be able to influence their thoughts and commonsense, make them think it's their own thoughts when really you're responsible for that. idk.
______
Now let's figure out how people get these powers.
As I've (hopefully) stated before, not everyone is a Mimic/Tamer. So it'd be a good idea to think of how people can become one.
Obviously there has to be a reason as to why not everyone is one.
Maybe it's like X-men and only some people are mutants... no
Maybe it's only neurodivergent people... I'll save that for another time, maybe.
You know how the greek gods have symbols?
And what about clerics? Their power is bestowed upon them by the divine.
What if it's like that? Somehow interacting with the symbol of the animal gives you either Mimicry or Tamer-ry. Like bathing in honey like it's the river styx. not sure if you'd survive, but you'd def need a bath after.
And it'd make sense how the antagonist is the only human tamer ever, coz no one knows what the symbol of humans are.
hmmmm, but then I'd have to come up with the symbol of so many things.
Bees could be honey sure.
Spiders might be webs
But what about bats?
Wolves?
Prey Mantis'?
Frogs?
Flies?
Too much work.
Maybe it works like chosen ones.
A god of Bees chooses... John Doe to represent the species, and by doing so, their descendants carry that power.
This could mean something about the society as well, being far more religious focused.
Maybe it used to be considered wrong for two chosen people to wed if they were not chosen by the same species?
Or perhaps if the descendant was born a Tamer, they couldn't be heir, and were used as a political puppet.
Ah yes, the two genders: Mimics and Tamers.
And what would happen when two different chosen ones wed? Would their children have one or both animals? maybe it'd make a hybrid?
And the chosen can be put in positions of higher power, like priests or nobles or kings.
A society built on power from the gods.
_________
Okay quick summary of what we've gotten done so far:
Mimics can copy the abilities of animals
Tamers can control animals
Both are chosen by gods of the animals.

I think what makes Mineta even more aggravating, even not factoring my points about his other character traits, is that he's basically introduced as a parallel to Midoriya, but for some bizarre reason he receives almost as much depth and development as Ojiro or Sato (IE: Almost none).
Like, what is the point of writing in a prominent character with a lot of legit character traits that could be used to flesh him out, that more or less directly parallels your main character in ways that the more powerful characters can't, and then literally NEVER flesh out any of them? It's a bizarre decision that still confuses me to this day.
Look at Toru. She's INVISIBLE! Do you realize what an incredible power that is? Is it ever really used in a meaningful way....sorta but not really. She's there to be a pervy joke because "hee hee she's naked"
About half of 1-A never gets anything more than superficial character traits.
Don't get me wrong, I love MHA but it's got...issues.
Issues I've written over 200,000 words addressing lol

4, and 40 w/ Daughters of Destiny for the fanfic writer meme?
#4: How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Care to share one of them?
I have a bunch of Demon Slayer xOC stories in my head. A few Jujutsu Kaisen fics, too, and some of the MHA ideas I've mentioned here but have never posted. I recently started watching One Piece and have some ideas, but I need to finish the series (a monumental task) before working on any of them. And of course I really need to work on my Cowboy Bebop and Pokemon fics...
Obviously I still have some older YYH stories I still need to finish, both on my Star Charter account and on fics I started under another name. I find myself preoccupied by them rather than concocting new YYH ideas. Once I finish all of those, I'm thinking I might stop writing for YYH, unless something new strikes me. I always want to be a part of the fandom, but... I can't keep starting stuff and not completing it!
LC's gotta get finished first, before anything else.
#40: Write an alternative ending to [insert fic title] (or just the summary of one). - Daughters of Destiny requested here
I'm not sure about an alternate ending since I haven't really written all of Not Quite Kagome's story. And since Daughters of Destiny was kind of a prologue to NQKag's story, its end is really more like a beginning? But here's the general vibe of how a story all about Not Quite Kagome would go, if that works for you.
Basically the dynamic between NQKag and Inuyasha would be super different in this story. They wouldn't be romantically interested in each other; NQKag knows her sister, who lived the life of Not Quite Kikyo, was into Inuyasha, and NQKag wouldn't want to encroach on that relationship. Plus, as an identical twin, in her past life she was often frustrated to be compared to her sister, so getting her sister's "leftovers" as a love interest in her new life is just plain gross and uncomfy. She'd resent being compared to Kikyo even more than canon!Kagome since she's already had too much of that kind of thing in her past life.
NQKag and Inuyasha, therefore, would basically become bros. They'd be a buddy comedy duo who bicker a lot and have more of a sibling relationship, and they bond over their shared love for Kikyo and their respective angst for what she's become and the roles they played in that. Each of them wants to seek out Not Quite Kikyo for their own reasons: Inuyasha for closure and to take care of a person he loved, and NQKag to lay her sister to rest and end her torment. They'd search for the jewel shards and try to find a way to lay NQKikyo to rest together.
The "sit boy" thing would also play out super differently. I have the scene already written! One day I'll share it, along with her meeting Miroku (she shuts down his pervy behaviors FAST). I'm thinking of making a snippets collection with random bits from NQKagome's story in it, but I'm still workshopping a title. Let me know if that sounds interesting to any of you.
I will admit I'm a SessKag shipper, so that would get set up somewhere along the way. NQKagome would open him up and challenge his perceptions of humanity. Would try my damndest not to turn her into a Manic Pixie Dream Girl to his Depressive Demon Nightmare Boy, although "Literal Ray of Sunshine dates Grumpy Rage Monster" is a favored ship dynamic for me, so...
I'm not entirely sure how her story would end, tbh. Part of me wants her to save NQKikyo by giving her a new life she can finally live in peace and with her own identity, but also there's something poetic in just laying her to rest after centuries of torment. But I also don't just want to kill someone who deserves more than she was given, y'know? It'd be a big bummer, and as I age, I find that I enjoy bummer endings less and less. Optimism in such a dark world can be truly subversive.
IDK if this was what you were really after when you asked for #40, but I hope this was interesting to read about, at least!

I asked myself the same question since I started watching this: Why am I so mesmerized by Demon Slayer? (SPOILERS AHEAD)
Kimetsu no Yaiba is just like any other fantasy universe anime I've seen so far—with the involvement of demons, inhumane skills, and the usual up and down arcs—yet somehow this one is so beautifully unique I can't wrap my head around it.
Firstly, you have the well-written plot. In all the animes I've seen the main character has to have some kind of goal or dream. We see all that with shows like MHA, Naruto, One piece etc etc. Each having the passion to achieve what they want for themselves but with Demon Slayer, it's absolutely void of that.
As a short introduction, we have the anime's protagonist, Tanjiro Kamado, who is a simple boy born in a poor family in a secluded country in old Japan and is the oldest of 6 siblings.
He knows about the rumours of man-eating demons—yes, man-eating demons—lurking in their world during the night but instead of the usual childish or brave nature of believing them, much less wanting to face / exterminate them like some wannabe hero, he simply shrugs it off and continues to do what he usually does: working hard to provide for his family.
And that's the intriguing part about the beginning! We see this boring yet lovable character who doesn't want anything for himself rather tries to help his mother and his siblings while he can since their father's passing. He's a gentleman just going through life for the betterment of those around him UNTIL he's finally given that darker goal. It's like having potatoes for dinner followed by a surprise dessert.
Returning from work—he sells coal, that's how poor they are—at sunrise, he comes home to his family massacred with the culprit gone. At that point, I admit, I began thinking, "Oh, so it's not different than the others. He sees his family dead, that drives him to join some demon hunting organisation in finding the killer and yada-yada-yada". BUT THEN!! Y'all ISTG, this is what made me love the whole thing. One of his sisters, Nezuko, is actually still alive, though barely.
He takes notice of this and desperately runs down a snowy mountain with her on his back and is constantly praying that he will reach help before it's too late.
And like one amazing twist after another, it's revealed that the reason she survived was because she was turned into a demon, which is evident after she tries attacking him midway.
He blocks her bites and claws until Giyuu, a 'Demon Slayer' finds them and tries beheading Nezuko to kill her.
Just when I thought I couldn't love this anime more than I already do, Tanjiro pleads with the demon slayer to spare his sister even when she was now lashing out with the intent to eat both of them like some rabid animal. Giyuu denies his sobs and Tanjiro goes as far as to challenge the skilled swordsman all for the sake of his last living family member, who, again, is now a man eating monster.
Eventually Tanjiro is knocked out and Nezuko manages to get out of Giyuu's grasp, lunges forward to her brother's body and to Giyuu's shock, instead of sinking her teeth into him, she legit kneels in front of him in a way that shows she's actually trying to protect him from the demon hunter.
Moments later Tanjiro then wakes up and cries tears of joy when he finds his sister beside him still on the snowy ground alive and with a bamboo now plastered on her mouth. From there, not only has Giyuu spared them but also helped Tanjiro in beginning his new life's mission: Finding the one who massacred his family as well as a cure for her sister, even though it is impossible to turn a demon back into a human.
See, what's amazing about that is the writer strayed away from the cliched path of writing our MC as a vengeful person who turns all 180 because of ~trauma~. The writer kept Tanjiro's initial trait of being gentle and caring throughout the entire story in such a way that the viewers are concerned when and if he's going to break at some point only to be reminded time and time again that he won't.
And that's where we arrive at the second beauty of DS: The characters, especially the chosen MC.
Demon Slayer's characters are one of the things that make the show fun to watch without ever feeling disgusted because none of them—like the ones in most animes—are absolute perverts nor is there any hint of sexualizing said characters in any way. Heck even Tengen, who has three wives, married them not for the sake of a harem but to give them a life with a purpose other than being an accessory.
That aside, there's our MC Tanjiro Kamado. This boy be making me question my standards for men.
Like I said in the beginning, he's an absolute gentleman. Kind, caring, compassionate, and by God is his empathy and perspective so high.
You'd think after finding out his family was killed by a demon he'd absolutely despise every single one of them, especially since he's just 14 at the start and we all know teens are mostly driven by their overwhelming emotions but no. Even knowing demons are absolute monsters who feast off of anyone in sight, it is always in his mind that they were also once human with families and emotions, just like his sister. He kills them, no shit, because really, would you let an immortal man-eating demon be rampant?
Absolutely not, it's them or the people. But Tanjiro feels for them, which is shown multiple times in every episode. They try to kill him, he gets angry too, but no matter how bad the demon is or how much rage is in him, Tanjiro doesn't have the heart to hate them. Well, except for Muzan and a couple of the moons but that's totally understandable.
He is respectful unless he has a good reason not to be. He doesn't hold grudges unless it's Muzan, and I can't forget how many times he blamed himself and apologise for situations that were inevitable at the moment and weren't even his fault to begin with, much less start at how many times he felt helpless but stayed strong and tried to make himself useful to the point where he was so close to death.
This. This is a great main character, right here. The side characters are also enjoyable of course. (My favourite is Shinobu, yes I know what happens to her, and no, I'm still not over it.) But Tanjiro as the MC is another reason why this show is awesome. It has an actual good role model!! And I thank Gotouge for that.
Lastly, we have the animation and the music.
Lord, I could just pass away.
Demon Slayer is written by Koyoharu Gotouge—who seems a lot like Tanjiro personality-wise based on his inserted manga doodles—and is animated by studio Ufotable which is shocking to me since I've seen their previous animations and was not impressed.
How they evolved to combining 3d and 2d with Demon Slayer, excluding Mugen Train, to perfection is beyond me. The contours of the art style alone are thick in both dimensions but the movements go from rough to smooth in perfect transitions that it's absolutely pleasing to the eye!!
How the colours are also set to complement and contrast the background is aesthetically unfathomable I could just stare at it all day.
The music? The soundtrack is amazing. Period. It captures traditional Japanese tones but has a slight mix of the modern era, one such example is 'Wisteria' and sometimes it can get tech-y like Zenitsu's theme, though like the animation, it blends perfectly with the strings. I just can't get enough of this masterpiece.
Thank you for sticking through the unnecessarily long rant ❤❤👋👋
#kimetsu no yaiba#kny#decy rants#god i love this show#maybe I'll do a take on AoT too#but that shit's too long#Thank the gods for Gotouge#I respect that man and his work#Haven't truly loved an anime this much since Violet Evergarden

This honestly just goes to prove some people just don't deserve AO3, if they're getting so gung ho about being against it. Tried fanfiction.net, hated it and how restrictive it was for OC involved content. It's lack of an actual proper content tagging system (such as trying to search for stuff like 'friends to lovers') made opening any fic with a 2 sentence or less description a wildcard. Since it felt like you barely knew what in the hell you were clicking on when you chose to read something, beyond the vague 2 sentence or so description. I often feel like works on this site are better grammatically, that's not to say the stories themselves are anything special. Most of the time they're pretty bland, if not a tad bit brooding that often is followed with the general 'stuck up' attitude I feel from some of the more frequent users. But whenever you find a good one with a fuck load of chapters, you know you're in for a wild ride. But whoever thought it was a good idea to have a mostly white and off-white website, but ONLY have a dark theme when reading a chapter of a fic and not just.. a universal dark theme, is a fucking moron. Ah yes, I love being flashbang when I decide to leave a 'review' (comment) on a fic, or heaven forbid try to look up some more fics. But hey, at least it has messaging! Wattpad, from my experiences from a few years back (aka I don't know if it's improved or deviated much from my experience of the site) is mainly populated by tweens, young adults, and people within that range or slightly older that want to pretend to write a book. Just... without the actual effort gone into editing the actual writing, and more on editing the flowery cover art and presentation with fancy text. Mostly comprised of stolen fandom art. And any 'books' on that site that go on to ACTUALLY be published, are rather sporadic in quality, and usually rather generic (which, makes sense, seeing as the material was intended for a younger audience. I don't exactly expect the 2nd coming of christ in these 'books' now do I). If not the 'books', it's chock full of MHA, Naruto, or KPOP fics written by kids with the typical 'Y/N' or self insert ship that generally never gets finished. The plot of which is most commondly 'Y/N has a dark secret past' blah blah blah... But at least with Wattpad the mobile apps have a universal dark theme (desktop users suffer, sadly). So that's one thing they have over fanfiction.net. Otherwise I don't see a reason to use this website as the tagging is just as bad if not worse than Fanfiction.net. Assuming it's working as intended, and the devs haven't broken it... again. You also have Quotev, which I would call the 'black sheep' of the fanfiction world, if you don't already consider Wattpad to be that. It's content is quite similar to Wattpad with the younger member base, and the surprising amount of Creepypasta fanfiction. If anything I'd actually argue it has more younger members than Wattpad since it has member made Quizzes that can range anywhere between 'Are you gay?' to an actual 'Choose Your Own Adventure' type quiz where the ending depends on your 'actions', aka your quiz choices (which, I'll give them credit, is a rather creative way of using the Quiz feature and I have no idea who pioneered it). There is also a far better commenting and profile system, and you can message people! Sadly, you're more often to find people roleplaying as their favorite video game or anime characters than an actual fanfiction. I feel like all the creative and artsy people that used to use Wattpad, moved to Quotev instead. And gave up writing fanfics for writing roleplays. The amount of personalization I've seen some kids achieve with their profiles and 'muses' (aka characters they roleplay and list on their profile) is amazing and generally Quotev is much more sociable than Wattpad. You have journals, status posts, etc, along with polls you can ask to your followers such as 'how long do you prefer chapters to be?'. It's actually the perfect middle ground in quality between the three sites (not counting AO3). If
anything I think I actually prefer this over Wattpad, but not over Fanfiction.net. As absolutely garbage Fanfiction.net is with it's tagging and almost-permanent light theme, it still has better quality and more content overall. Don't look at me for sites like Commaful. I've never used it properly, but it seems like the quality is between Quotev and Wattpad for the most part. For better or for worse, I have no idea.
For the weird people who are anti ao3 where do they even want people to go instead
From what I hear fanfiction.net had pretty much given up on moderating it’s content despite its various rules and guidelines
And I’ve literally been on wattpad like 2 times and have never used it myself to publish anything but it seems like a literal hell hole so lmao
