Why Are Full Suspension Mountain Bikes So Expensive
Full suspension mountain bikes are expensive that are tend to be more costly than hardtail models due to the additional technology and components they feature. This may pose an obstacle for riders looking forward to experiencing all that rear shock has to offer.
Budget-minded mountain bikers now have more choices than ever when it comes to enjoying the benefits of full suspension systems, with hardtail MTBs providing comparable rides as top-tier full suspension options at much lower costs.
Shop around, and you’re likely to find hardtail bikes suitable for most terrain and skill levels. As your price scale goes up, component quality improves along with lightweight designs; and cross-country, trail, all-mountain, and downhill bikes become more clearly identified categories.
Marin Rift Zone 27.5 offers an ideal budget-friendly full suspension bike solution, boasting 130mm travel in its suspension fork and an exceptional drivetrain for less than $2000.

i think maybe tumblr ate my ask for the ask game? i'd love to know 🍻 and 🔮!
i think so -- i've been getting a lot of issues with this Most Definitely Functioning App And Website so i hope this works!
🍻 seeing races live
yes!! i will be somewhere out on the course for both the men's and women's Paris-Roubaix, which i'm super excited for as it'll be the first time i've seen a race live (except that time tour of britain passed through my hometown when i was ~4 but i don't remember much beyond waiting several hours in the heat for what amounted to a minute of unintelligible noise and cars going by), and i might be going to a Tour stage but we will see. plus definitely Tour of Britain if it still goes ahead and is nearby 🙏🙏
🔮 drop some predictions, no matter how big/small
okay let's have fun. all of these are just ~vibes~ and gut feelings but i will be making sure to bookmark this if anything does happen. variable startlists my beloathed.
Mathieu wins his third RVV from a small-group sprint but doesn't podium Roubaix. skips the Tour (or leaves at the end of first week) to focus on Olympic MTB where he wins a medal
Marianne Vos podiums Amstel
Jasper gets a big one-day win like Brugge-de-Panne again or GW, but misses out on the green jersey at the Tour
Cecilie wins two GT stages (if she rides two GTs, one if she rides one, but she crashed at Omloop, praying for a quick recovery 🙏🙏❤️)
Hugh Carthy wins a stage at the Giro i can feel it.
Tadej wins 3+ Giro stages then 2 Tour stages. comes off the back of winning the Giro in great form but misses out on the Tour podium because of a random event (illness/crash/mechanical etc) but another UAE rider makes the top 3
Cav gets #35, it's magical, wonderful, the commentators are crying, i'm crying, and then he doesn't start the next stage
Mads gets green at the Tour and 2 stage wins and probably green at the Dauphiné too
Primož wears yellow but doesn't win the Tour
'Giro stage shortened because of bad weather' would be a bit of a fork-found-in-kitchen prediction, but i think there'll be at least one Tour stage that's shortened/neutralised due to the heat
Whoever does win the Tour wins at least one other jersey (white if Remco, KOM if anyone else)
SDworx 1-2 at least two races with Demi and Lotte
there's a kind of surprise Olympics winner -- maybe a sprint goes weird, a breakaway go hell-for-leather and make it, who knows
Movistar get on the podium at Catalunya and top 5 Vuelta but signing Nairo again proves to be a mistake
stage winners at the Vuelta include Jay Vine, Egan Bernal, Guillaume Martin and Caleb Ewan (Jonas wins overall)
okay that's a lot actually, i love throwing prediction darts at the cycling season
early season ask game

But, for now, it's the Easter weekend: maintenance Sunday....
Looking ahead to a bike trip in May, if not April, thoughts turn to luggage carrying. While the Aeroe system looks good, there are already far too many people spending hundreds of pounds on future landfill to facilitate their once-a-year bike holiday. I don't want to be part of that problem. I'm constantly trying to divest myself of 'stuff,' not add to it, so I intend adapting gear I already have: the Old Man Mountain rack on the commuter, and the fork racks on the mountain bike.
Remember when all frames used a single standard method of attaching the rear wheel, allowing you to easily swap components between bikes? When MTBs weren't one trick ponies, so they'd come with a variety of mounting points...? The old OMM rack went on the Cannondale monstercross quickly and easily with the aid of a couple of quids' worth of 10mm aluminium spacers and extended bolts from eBay.
My little Carradice panniers stay on well (better than Ortleib) but the bottom clip can pop out on rough ground, and they rattle around a bit like many such bags. Easy solution: mount the fork racks such that I can strap dry bags either side of the rear wheel, leaving the top of the OMM rack free for supplies picked up en route. Loads of heel clearance for my mahoosive size 50 feet, zero rattle and movement. Cost on eBay? Less than a tenner for a bag of 12mm p-clips, bolts and nyloc nuts.
That'll work.

Got to ride a 29er MTB today after almost 4 years of riding a gravel set up.
Made a few comparisons specifically for these two set up.
MTB:
Skyline 27.5 frame with 29" wheels, 3x7 drivetrain with hydraulic discbreak.
Tumblr media
My friend who owns this bike is roughly around my height (5'3") so I was expecting his set up to be somewhat accommodating to my riding comfort. Lol I was wrong. The wide bars and heightened seat post don't sit well with me. After riding 3km, my lower back was in pain, my arms were sore and my neck could snap. Haha.
Tumblr media
I did miss riding through the trail and road bumps because of the perfectly working fork shock.
Gravel:
Louis Garneau Chasse size 47 with 700x32c wheels, 1x9 drivetrain with STI and v-brakes.
Tumblr media
Owned this for more than 3 years now (Nov 2020) and converted this from a city bike to a gravel set up. Currently uses a compact drop of 380mm and seat post for maximum riding comfort, weighs 8.8kg. This set takes me 25-30kph with a max of 42-54kph downhill.
Tires are perfect for short distance trails but leaves me with body ache as well because of the rigid fork hahaha. V-brakes aren't the most reliable esp when paired with sti but my frame is limited to this type of brake set, it's easier to repair and maintain though.
Share ko lang kasi now na lang ulit ako nakapag try ng ibang bike ever since I got Ravi (that's my bike's name.)

Pastry Chefs and Flat Tire Flyers
Tumblr media
Since 1977 cyclist/pastry chef Tilmann Waldthaler had been pedalling around the globe - clocking over 590,000km in the process. I found out about this guy from reading a small article about his adventures in a 90s bike magazine I was scouring through at a second hand shop—a bit of internet sleuthing later and I was calling up an Australian retirement village to talk to him about bikes, kicking back with Bob Marley and nearly getting gunned down in Iran.
Read it over on the Outsiders site.
On a sort of similar two-wheeled note, I recently interviewed Iris Slappendel about her busy life since ‘retirement’ from the pro-cycling world, making clothes, starting up the Cyclist’s Alliance and working as a commentator for Eurosport.
Read that one here.
Tumblr media
MTB pioneer Charlie Kelly has been uploading some old issues of his Flat Tire Flyer magazine. This thing started out in 1980 as a simple newsletter before morphing into the first real mountain bike magazine, documenting the transition from balloon tired klunkers to honed Japanese machines. The covers are the best things about this magazine, with the limitations of the era adding to the charm.
The last cover is particularly good. Check the old Nike and New Balance runners to the left. Reappropriating what you can find will always be more interesting than forking out for whatever some ‘development team’ decided you should wear. Mountain biking looked infinitely cooler when there was no such thing as mountain biking clothes.
Tumblr media
Here’s an interview with Charlie from a decade ago. Time flies when you’re constantly mithering people half-way around the world about things they did 30 years ago.
Tumblr media
On that note, here’s an interview with photographer, rider and magazine-man James Hudson. From back-garden ramp set-ups to the big-top and beyond, James Hudson spent the 80s and early 90s fully engrossed in the world of riding and skating, not just as a rider, but also as a photographer and magazine-man—contributing snaps to R.A.D., editing SK8-Action and publishing BMX Now. This was originally printed in the last issue of Red Steps but there’s no harm in stuff being on the internet too.
Next issue of Roman Candle should hopefully be out sometime in summer. This stuff takes time.
Until then, here’s 28 minutes of audio mastery courtesy of James Ferraro. Been listening to this one a lot lately.

How to Choose the Perfect Mountain Cycle for an Exhilarating Riding Experience
The choice of the MTB cycle depends on these factors while purchasing a new cycle, some of them being the type of surface you ride, length of the ride, who you are riding with, your preferences and so on.
These days deciding on what mountain bike to purchase is far from simple because there are so many bikes out there. It has been observed that bikes have come out to be more efficient, cheap and reliable.
Mountain bike cycles are bicycles specially built for cycling off the road and they have more Endura features than normal bicycles. They can be used for single-track trails, mountain bike trails and fire roads, gravel roads, pothole laden city streets, any paved or unpaved surface.
Selecting the best mountain cycle especially with gears can be a hard decision due to the many bikes in the market. The last word is reserved for your usage and the kind of slopes you like to ride on.
1. Type of Suspension
There are two kinds of mountain cycle, the hardtail mountain bikes and the full-suspension mountain bikes. Full suspension mountain bike executes a dual suspension system; the seat post shock (the fork) for the front end movement and the rear end shock for the rear end movement.
New riders however need not to mind since they too can purchase a hardtail because they are lighter and better for climbs and pedaling. The full suspension ones however are suitable for rough and steep down hills, drops or jumping. It has come out clearly that a full suspension MTB cycle is much more expensive than the hardtail.
For regular riders, the choice is made in favor of the full-suspension mountain bikes this will provide an opportunity to cope with any trails and situations on them.
2. Select the Right Tire Size.
Mountain bikes have three wheel-size options: 27.Standard: 5-inch, Standard: 29-inch, and Mixed-wheel. And while there aren’t strict guidelines regarding the wheel size of these vehicles, Rather, it’s aimed at individual preferences along with the type of the ground one plans to cover on the back of a bike.
Here are a few tips for determining the tire size that might be apt for you:
27.5 Inch If you are short, standing at 5 feet 4 inches or below, 27.5 inches tires may be more comfortable. Now, some of the S and XS models are offered with 27.5 inch wheels only.
The bigger roller’s greatest feature is more efficient riding, but the ride quality is worse; if you’re going to be doing extreme mountain biking,29″ wheels work well.
In addition, it is also possible to go with 29” on the front and 27.5” at the back. The mixed wheel also helps enjoy the best of both worlds fueled by good riding dynamics and a splendid ride quality.
3. Kerb Weight of MTB Cycle
The MTB cycles ride through rough terrains, thus they need to be made with some strong build quality. The result is that the bicycle has a heavy frame and wide knobby tires and they affect the kerb weight. In my opinion it would be most appropriate if you procured an MTB bike that has both reasonable build stiffness and near perfect kerb weight. This is because, at times, you have to push the cycle in conditions that cannot be ridden, for instance when meeting mud and slush trails.
Second of all, it should be smooth since the random rocks, roots, as well as ruts, can attack you from any direction. That kind of usage cannot be delivered by a frail bicycle. OMO Bikes is one of the leading cycle manufacturing companies in India that has produced a number of MTB cycles, which has a perfect balance that provides go anywhere ability and strength.
4. Choose Your Budget
The mountain cycle price in India varies with the frames and quality of parts such as the drive train, rear shock, front fork, brakes and the brand name. The frame would probably be considered the most fundamental and important part of a bicycle. Without it, you have a pile of parts of a greater whole you must put together like some complex jigsaw. They also found that when selecting a frame, this choice is important : material of the frame. Some of the several categories of frames in terms of material include aluminum and carbon frames.
It is a plastic in which super strong fibers have been combined with either polyethylene or polyester. It has a very high strength to weight ratio. It is also highly rigid.
Earlier, when carbon fiber was patented for use and not easily available to bicycle manufacturers and for cyclists to purchase, aluminum was the predominant frame material. It is rigid, cost effective and lightweight, cheap and has good mechanical properties.
It is according to your convenience and income. For beginners, using an aluminum frame is the appropriate thing to do whilst for the more serious riders, one will have to spend a bit more by going for carbon fiber material.

Whyte E-160 RSX Gloss Orange with Matt Black: Revolutionizing E-Mountain Biking
Mountain biking enthusiasts understand the exhilaration that comes from navigating tough terrains and experiencing nature up close. However, even the most seasoned riders occasionally encounter challenges that can hinder the overall experience. Enter the Whyte E-160 RSX Gloss Orange with Matt Black, an e-MTB designed to overcome those challenges while delivering maximum performance, comfort, and style. Whether you’re a beginner or a pro, this bike elevates your ride with advanced technology, precision engineering, and striking aesthetics.
In this in-depth review, we’ll dive into the features, benefits, and reasons why the Whyte E-160 RSX is an unparalleled choice for e-MTB enthusiasts.
1. Powerful Performance with Bosch Gen 4 CX Motor
The heart of the Whyte E-160 RSX is the powerful Bosch Performance Line CX Gen 4 motor. This 85Nm torque powerhouse ensures you’re never short of energy, even on the steepest climbs. With its efficient power delivery and smooth assist modes, the motor adapts to your riding style and terrain, providing a natural feel. Bosch's motor also features a lightweight design, ensuring that the bike remains balanced and agile, despite its e-bike components.
The Bosch Smart System integration means you get a seamless interface between the motor, battery, and control unit. It allows riders to select different assist levels, such as Eco, Tour, eMTB, and Turbo modes, each offering varying levels of support based on the needs of the terrain. Whether you are cruising down a trail or powering up a mountain, the motor adapts in real time to provide just the right amount of assistance.
2. Exceptional Battery Life with PowerTube 750Wh
One of the standout features of the Whyte E-160 RSX is its high-capacity 750Wh Bosch PowerTube battery. This substantial power pack offers an impressive range, allowing for longer rides without frequent recharges. Whether you’re riding on flat trails or tackling hilly landscapes, you can rely on the battery to sustain you through multiple hours of continuous riding.
What’s remarkable about the PowerTube battery is its seamless integration into the bike’s frame. The RSX’s downtube houses the battery, keeping the bike's aesthetics intact while maintaining a low center of gravity for superior handling. Additionally, the battery is easily removable, making it convenient to charge at home or on the go.
3. Suspension Built for Tough Terrains: RockShox Zeb Ultimate Fork and Super Deluxe Shock
Riding through rugged terrains requires advanced suspension, and Whyte doesn’t disappoint with the E-160 RSX. It comes equipped with a RockShox Zeb Ultimate 170mm fork that provides unmatched shock absorption, ensuring a smooth ride even on the roughest trails. The fork’s burly 38mm stanchions are built to take a beating, making them ideal for aggressive riding and steep downhill sections.
Complementing the front suspension is the RockShox Super Deluxe Coil Ultimate shock, which guarantees superior rear-wheel traction and control. The combination of these two suspension components provides a balanced, confident ride, whether you're climbing, descending, or maneuvering through technical sections.
4. Frame and Geometry: Designed for Confidence and Control
The Whyte E-160 RSX isn’t just about power; it’s about precision and control. Its lightweight yet robust 6061 T6 aluminum frame is engineered for optimal performance and durability. The bike’s low-slung top tube, paired with a longer wheelbase and a slack head angle (64.5°), delivers a stable, confident ride, even when navigating tricky trails or technical descents.
The integrated internal cable routing adds to the bike’s sleek look, while the Gloss Orange with Matt Black color scheme ensures you turn heads on the trail. The matte black accents provide a bold contrast to the vibrant orange, making this bike a true showstopper in terms of style.
5. 12-Speed SRAM Eagle Drivetrain: Precision Shifting, Maximum Efficiency
To make the most of your ride, you need a drivetrain that’s both reliable and efficient. The Whyte E-160 RSX comes with a 12-speed SRAM Eagle drivetrain, which delivers crisp, precise shifting under all conditions. With a wide range of gears, this setup allows for smooth transitions between uphill climbs, flat sections, and descents. The 1x12 setup reduces the complexity of multiple chainrings, making maintenance easier and ensuring there’s less chance of a mechanical failure during critical moments.
SRAM's GX Eagle cassette offers a huge 10-52T range, ensuring that no climb is too steep and no descent too fast. Whether you're pushing your limits on an uphill grind or speeding through descents, this drivetrain keeps your energy levels optimized.
6. Premium Braking Power: SRAM Code RSC Brakes
Controlling speed and navigating difficult terrain requires a braking system that instills confidence, and the Whyte E-160 RSX is equipped with the best. The SRAM Code RSC brakes offer incredible stopping power and modulation, giving you complete control over your bike in any situation. Whether you're bombing down steep slopes or carefully maneuvering through tight, technical sections, these brakes ensure you stay in command.
The 4-piston calipers provide consistent braking performance under varying conditions, while the 200mm rotors ensure sufficient heat dissipation, preventing brake fade on long descents.
7. Tubeless-Ready Wheels and Maxxis Assegai Tires for Maximum Grip
A great mountain bike is only as good as its tires, and the Whyte E-160 RSX comes equipped with Maxxis Assegai tires—one of the most trusted names in MTB tire technology. These 2.5” wide tires offer excellent traction, durability, and puncture resistance, ensuring you can tackle loose dirt, rocky trails, or wet conditions with confidence. Their wide profile also ensures better cornering stability, essential for high-speed descents and tricky switchbacks.
Paired with Whyte's tubeless-ready alloy rims, the tires offer the option to go tubeless for enhanced puncture protection and reduced weight. This setup is designed to give you better handling, smoother rides, and fewer chances of flats while out on the trails.
8. Advanced Technology: Bluetooth-Connected Kiox Display
The Bosch Kiox display on the Whyte E-160 RSX takes riding to the next level with its advanced Bluetooth connectivity. This user-friendly display provides real-time ride data, such as speed, power output, and battery level. It's not just a display—it’s a tool that enhances your riding experience, offering navigation support and even fitness tracking.
The Kiox system is rugged, durable, and weather-resistant, perfect for mountain biking environments where conditions can change quickly. Plus, its compact size ensures that it won’t clutter your handlebar, allowing you to focus on the trail ahead.
9. Custom Fit and Rider Comfort
Every rider is unique, and Whyte understands this. That’s why the E-160 RSX is available in a variety of frame sizes, ensuring a comfortable fit for riders of all heights. The bike’s adjustable seat post allows you to quickly and easily fine-tune your riding position for optimal comfort and performance. Whether you prefer a more upright posture for long rides or a lower stance for aggressive downhill racing, the Whyte E-160 RSX accommodates your needs.
10. Environmentally Friendly and Future-Proof
One of the often-overlooked advantages of e-bikes like the Whyte E-160 RSX is their potential to reduce environmental impact. By providing electric assistance, this bike encourages more people to ride instead of drive, reducing overall carbon emissions. Moreover, the bike’s sustainable design features durable components that are built to last, meaning fewer replacements and less waste.
Conclusion: Why Choose the Whyte E-160 RSX Gloss Orange with Matt Black?
In the competitive world of e-MTBs, the Whyte E-160 RSX Gloss Orange with Matt Black stands out for all the right reasons.
