BACKGROUND OVERVIEW:

MOTHER: irene rose de thibault (b. october 1962, d. april 2002), german-french-american. FATHER: françois de thibault (b. july 1958), french.

MOTHER’S OCCUPATION: irene was graduated in english and french literature, though never truly worked in her field. already born into a wealthy family, her marriage to françois managed to keep her from working. sometimes, however, she would dedicate her time to write. she considered herself a writer, though was never interested in publishing her works, preferring to keep it only to her husband and son instead. FATHER’S OCCUPATION: francis had his occupation planned before he could even go against it—his father was the founder of the hotel he is the currently main ceo, in paris. after graduating in business management and marrying irene, he started working on expanding the hotel’s area, taking it to england and, then, america. FAMILY FINANCES: rich, wealthy, upper class. both sides of adam’s family had their finances in a good amount that can make the next generations live ‘easily’, as long as they know how to manage and raise it with their own work.

BIRTH ORDER: only child. OTHER CLOSE FAMILY: in avenir, he is close (but not that close) to his mother’s family, his aunts and cousins. although not part of his blood-family, but he considers his father’s housekeeper and butler (beatrice and henri) part of his actual family too, as he grew up being taken care by them.

TOWN OR CITY(S) NAMES: london (england), paris (france), new haven, boston and avenir (united states), there may be many more american cities, as he did a road trip while in college. HOME LIFE DURING CHILDHOOD: adam was mainly raised by his mother and the servants in his house, since his father had been busy with the hotel expansion through most of the time when he was younger. he used to be a bright and kind child, friendly and not judgemental. absolutely adored when his mother read to him when he had to go to bed, never being one to complain to go to sleep as long as there was a story to be told, always with his left thumb into his mouth. used to fear “monsters” under the bed and inside the closet, to which his mother had to guarantee he was safe every night. always tried to get close to his father, and even being busy, the man would always appreciate whenever his blonde child appeared to distract him from his work, with the childish attempts to help him or ending up with something to do on his own, so they could work and spend time together in the office. WHAT DID HIS BEDROOM LOOK LIKE: having several childhood bedrooms (one in each house they had), all of them were different. his main home, though, had been london and paris, and both bedrooms, in each mansion, were very alike and made him feel comfortable enough. they had light blue walls and white curtains, a corner just for his toys and another just for his child books. being one who liked to draw a lot, his parents kept notebooks in his desk’s drawer along with pencils, colorful or not, so he could use them as he wished to. several portraits of him as a child and growing up could be seen on the walls, his parents loved taking pictures of and with him. his bed was always made, thanks to beatrice, and his covers usually had cartoon’s characters (but if they didn’t, he would always prefer something in blue or green). FAVORITE TOY OR GAME: being a lonely kid, he liked anything that could entertain himself without the need of others. thus, he would always be found with a box of lego—he liked to build things a lot—or coloring a book. he used to have a teddy bear to which he was very attached to and wouldn’t sleep without it.

SCHOOLING: attended to elementary school in london. middle and high school in paris. he graduated to chavagnes international college in 2003 and took a while to enter an university, applying to several of them only for his father’s sake, but ending up in boston university, where he double majored in english literature and business management, and graduated in 2011. FAVORITE SUBJECT: literature, sociology and philosophy. astronomy is also something he finds interesting and studied “on his own” for quite a while, just for curiosity. POPULAR OR LONER: both? during middle school and the beginning of high school, adam used to be more social and talkative, and that guided him to be a popular kid. however, after his mother got sick, he became distant and barely bothered much, bringing his loner side up, to which he lives up until now. contradicting, but he was popular for having a known name, a known family, but a loner because he simply didn’t care for interactions “much” or “more than necessary” (just to keep appearances). ANY SPORTS OR CLUBS: literature club, debate team, soccer team (surprisingly an athletic kid? well, the boy had to keep his appearances and try to be good at everything, i guess).

IMPORTANT EXPERIENCES OR EVENTS:

childhood in london, meeting beatrice and henri, who were almost his second pair of parents.

slowly leaning to read and write with his mother’s guidance.

moving to paris, where his parents’ considered their “official” home.

spending some time in germany, visiting and taking care of a sick cousin (along with his mother).

constantly visiting his mother’s family and friends in avenir (united states), aka spending time with the ramirez, the havfrue, meeting new friends, etc.

some vacations in new haven.

all the christmas and thanksgiving celebrations with his parents, when things were much easier.

spending months taking care of his mother in the hospital after she was late diagnosed with brain cancer.

his mother’s death when he was 16.

his father not wanting to talk or deal with him, not even attending his high school graduation a year after his mother’s death.

getting into yale, harvard, cambridge and choosing boston university just to piss his father off (and because he had friends studying there).

being invited to spend holidays with the beaumonts ( @beavmcnts ) while in college.

spending time in france after his graduation to manage the thibault hotel in paris along with his father, trying to get along with him and failing miserably.

being allowed to open and take care of a subsidiary for the hotel in avenir (his mother’s hometown).

HEALTH PROBLEMS: diagnosed with intermittent explosive disorder (anger issues) since he was 16 years old. adam’s been under different treatments (with both therapy and medication) since then and managed it through most of the time—but he usually can’t control when triggered by major stress, only finding relief in letting his emotions out in an aggressive behaviour or act (throwing and breaking things, yelling, etc). he tries his best at not letting this side out when there is anyone around; he doesn’t like to be witnessed in moments like this, afraid that he will do or say things he will regret, as there is no filter between what he thinks and what he says in moments like this. in general and nowadays, at the age of 31, adam is doing much better than he thought he was capable of when he was a teenager (rarely having these moments and being good at dealing with his triggers).

CULTURE: a mix of british and french, mostly. born and raised partially in london and having a british housekeeper in paris, adam grew up used to several details of their culture; but living in france was easy for him to end up mixing both. the french trace that is the easiest to notice on him might be his exaggeration when it comes to food—either in quantity or quality. adam also learned about american culture as a child (some brief things, such as holidays) due to his mother’s influence—he used to celebrate thanksgiving, for example, while the woman was alive... but this tradition never made it into the thibault mansion after her death. his knowledge and reference in german culture is so brief that he isn’t sure if it has any influence on his habits. RELIGION AND BELIEFS: roman catholic baptized, but agnostic. he rarely cares about attending church, though sometimes does so for his own sake—not much for the belief, but for the place. he finds some comfort in simply taking a seat inside of a church when he feels too bad.
