O okie- well we do have some back story if you look hard enough:

"The RED & GRN teams were created by two business rivals and twin brothers Thomas & Reginald Gerhardt.

After Thomas inherited their father's company GRN, Reginald attempted to assassinate Thomas using hired guns and established RED as a front business to smuggle weapons to the mercenaries. But Thomas also had mercenaries of his own to defend him. This created a permanent power struggle with Joseph Fitten supplying both teams." -tc2 wiki

We can also assume theres a company similar to tf2 industrys that takes care of both affairs of Grn and Red with Ms. Charlie and Administrator/Announcer (art by AgiRagii also note idk if Announcers design is fully canon, both of them are AgoRagiis ocs who are accepted into the game but I can only confirm that Ms C is 100% accepted due to official page on the wiki)

The tc2 mercs also appear in arsenal + takes place in arsenals canon but idk how you count arsenal so I just headcanon it as like a union, where you kill people.

Brutes domination voicelines at mechanic also reveal that the mechanic might also be a part timer with accually being a mechanic so it would be really funny to say all the mercs are just part timers.

Sadky thier isn't any lore outside the tc2 wiki for agent that i know of. I do have misc facts about arsenal like how mechanic has a whole ass pizzaria with robot versions of people he knows. One agent theory/headcanon is that Agent has some relationship to dealer due to agent having a simular appearance and card motif.
