I was reading one of the more prominent Taylor blogs a few days ago. I came across an ask about IDWLF who was it about. Her answer was Calvin Harris. I knew that was wrong. Why is it Swifties totally shut Harry out? I considered telling her she was wrong but she doesn't take being corrected very well and I wasn't looking for drama.

Thanks for the ask anon. I went way too deep on this and have posted a detailed analysis of the video and song as to why. But the TLDNR is:

Yes it’s about Harry. I think it’s in part a response to Perfect. TBH it would have probably really annoyed Harry, it was huge, I think he’s always wanted to do a duet with her and she did one with Zayn when he’d ditched 1D. Savage.

The song is quite Haylor in that it’s about really wanting to be with someone and the timing not being right, and I think it’s an important part of their story in that time. I have so much more here:

As to why some people have Haylor blinkers, Could be jealousy, beliefs about another ship, directioner baggage, not questioning media. People ship who they ship, or some just only believe every song is about Taylor’s offical BF at the time. But midnights unstuck that.

Ed Sheeran said that he counts Taylor as a real friend because they see each other and don’t post about it. The world not knowing the time they spent together apart from lyrics is a good thing really, though it’s confusing when the “runtime is edited”.

Speaking of runtime, Calvin and Taylor weren’t seen together after April when he’d already written a diss track about her and Harry. To think she then wrote this song and high infidelity about him while he slammed her on twitter is inconsistent.

Some swifties are like Taylor’s word is the word of god. (If she says Mr Joe Nobody’s has a big reputation he does, even if her ex inspired Slut!)

Which is fine, I love Taylor, and if it makes them happy that’s great. But she’s even told us not to believe everything she says in Dear Reader.

Alright confession time from a new larrie! I needed tonight. I don’t know what it was about him wearing these sweatpants, but I’m finally a self proclaiming no stunts/no bullsh*t larrie and to celebrate I ordered myself a rbb/sbb phone case on redbubble to use at Louis’ LA Night 2 show :) For context, I was never a directioner when the band was still around. I was going through a hardcore highschool emo phase at the time and was only vaguely aware they existed because of my little cousins who loved them. This past year I moved in with my best friend and she is a casual fan of Harry. Unlike me, she doesn’t really get absolutely obsessed with anything but she did mention to me last August that she’d really wanted to attend HSLOT. When I looked up the cost of tickets I physically gasped. I didn’t realize just how much Mr. Styles had grown as an artist outside of 1D. I bit the bullet and bought her the tickets for his LA Night 1 show because I’m a giant sucker for my bff. Anyways, long story short I can’t casually enjoy anything so I did a deep dive on Harry and One Direction and, like many others I’m sure, kind of fell into the “iPhone conspiracy” that is Larry Stylinson. When I say I thought larries were coucou bananas at first, that’s putting it lightly. But the more you look, the more you find. I was SHOCKED. When I told my bff I might believe it, she thought I was insane. But the night of our HSLOT show was the night Harry wore the green outfit with the roses if you remember, and my jaw dropped because I had been lurking on Tumblr reading hours and hours worth of Larry theories and for him to appear in front of me wearing that outfit was like an out of body experience. Still for some reason, I was skeptical. Maybe because I hadn’t really done enough research from Louis’ side yet and I hadn’t really listened to Walls yet either (I mean this is/was years worth of timelines and albums, etc. etc. for me to get through) But today, something has finally clicked. Louis strode onto the stage in those sweatpants and it’s like the fog is clear. I get it. I get the coded clothing. I get the albums. I hear the messages. What a day. HAPPY VALENTINES DAY TO ALL MY FELLOW LARRIES, BUT ESPECIALLY LOUIS AND HARRY. 💙💚

I just realized as a fellow larrie that I listened to both Louis’ and Harry’s albums before I even became a directioner and my views were very different before coming into this fandom. 

When I was listening to hs1, especially after ‘Sweet Creature’, I was asking myself “Who is this fucker singing about? Coming back to that person who feels like home, acting as if he’s been married for 30 years now?” So obviously, the first thing I did was research about his relationships, which basically told me that most of H’s relationships lasted for months. So like at first, I was like “Perhaps he’s talking the feeling you get when you first start a relationship.” 

When I listened to hs2, one song in particular, ‘Falling’ didn’t make sense to me. Again, I was confused. Cause while relationships that last for months can hurt you, however, I’m pretty sure relationships that’s lasted for years hurt more. So I was like “Is there someone the media doesn’t know about or am I missing something?” 

But when my ass finally listened to lt1, everything finally made fucking sense. (keep in mind, I still wasn’t a directioner even at this point. My sister was basically just sending some of the band and solo songs and I got a little curious, so I ended up listening to their albums, both in the band and solo) Both of those fuckers were literally writing viewpoints of the same situation. Now this is where doubt kicked in and was like “What if they’re different stories, but they happen to coincidentally write about the same story?” I did more research and I found Elounor. This is when I asked myself “What if it was about Elounor? They both were dating for almost 5 years.” 

My ass who still hasn’t discovered anything about “Larry” believed Louis’ album was about Eleanor, so I kept it to that. However, that still didn’t explain Harry’s albums cause that still left me at a dead end. Eventually, I gave up on it and just left my wondering thoughts. 

It wasn’t until my sister sent me a video about Larry did I start speculating. (I would like to say the video was a Larry proof video for anyone wondering) Now, I was previously in another fandom where I had already encountered plenty of bromances, that usually included two pals just being extremely affectionate with each other. Basically, I didn’t believe in Larry cause I thought they were probably two lads who were affectionate with each other. Now the thoughts to Larry didn’t pop up until I was watching some of 1D’s interviews and video diaries did I notice Louis’ obsession with Mr. Harry Styles. 

At first, it was cute to me until I noticed the obsession in nearly every interview I watched. I then decided to watch a mix of concert videos and interviews and noticed many things. First, in some concert videos, at least from my perspective, it seemed both L and H were aware of each other’s presence based on the fact both were literally avoiding physical collision with each other. Second, both acted differently with each other than they did compared to the other members. While all the lads show they care for one another, the care between L and H seemed different. They were more gentler, softer, and overall treated each other like they both were made of fucking glass. Now this seemed to stand out to me the most and I ended up rewatching several videos just to ensure I making things up. I wasn’t. So at this point, I decided to search up this bond between these two and found an entire fandom made up of people who shipped these two as a couple. I watched some Larry videos and eventually, fell deep into a theory that two men were secretly in a relationship. 

As for the questions I previously had about Harry’s and Louis’ albums, a lot of larrie theories, in my opinion, explained everything I had questions to when I first listened to those three albums.

Before I met the boys I was litterly a hardcore Directioner. I would be in the front row of as many One Direction concerts as I possibly could, I'd be singing along to every single word that came out of the boy's mouths... And even the ones that didn't. But now, I get to be front row and singing every word, but I know that after the show I get to go home with one of those boys. And even though I'm dating one of them, I still feel like that fan girl that I once was. I mean you know what they say, Once a fan girl always a fan girl. "Hey love." Louis said as he walked into our shared room. "Hey!" I said before he planted a kiss on my lips. "You look stunning as always." He said making me blush. "And you look hot as always." "Who me?" He said joking. "No the guy behind you!" I said sarcasticly. He laughed a bit and I asked, "So you excited for the show today?" "Yup first show of the tour! The best part, is that you will be there front row." I looked away not wanting to tell him the truth. "Or, are you not gonna be there?" He said sounding kind of hurt. "My mom asked me to go have lunch with her and spend the day with her." "Oh." "Listen I'll try and make it back in time." "It's fine y/n. Spend time with your mom." He said with a smile even though you knew it was fake. "I'm really sorry babe." "It's fine." My heart sank knowing he was upset. "Well, I should probably get heading out." I said. "Yeah me too." "Okay, well I love you." "Love you too." I kissed him and then grabbed my purse.

I was driving and I was almost to my mom's house when I got a text

Mom: Hey y/n, sorry I forgot about our plans. I have some work business that I have to get to. Can we plan on rescheduling?

You: That's alright, we can make new plans soon.

I immediately turned the car around. I knew I only had like a hour and a half till the show started. So I went straight to the show. I got there about 3 minutes before the show started. Right before I pulled in I got a call from Harry. "Hey, I thought you were gonna be here." "I am. Just don't tell Louis. Can you get Paul to come outside so I can get in." "Yeah, but why can't I tell Louis." "You'll see." "Okay, Paul is headed outside." "Okay, see you on stage!" "Bye." "Bye." I got out of the car as fast as I could and met Paul at the back door. He helped me get to the front right where Louis would be standing. Soon the beginning to Midnight Memories started. They went through the whole song without Louis noticing me. He seemed upset and it hurt knowing he was. Then Little Things started to play. It was yours and Louis song (pretend Louis helped write it). I sang every word, but when it went to Louis part I stop singing and just listened. While he was singing he looked out in the crowd. He found you. He soon had a huge smile on his face and was singing while looking at me.

I was about to try to find a way out so I could be backstage before the boys were. But I was struggling. After their second to last song I saw Louis whisper to one of the security guards. "Do you need help getting out?" The security guard asked me. I nodded in response and he helped lift me over the metal gate. Girls were screaming at the fact that this was happening, because no one knew Louis and I were together. I was about to walk to backstage when I heard Niall say, "Louis, looks like we have a run away fan." I looked back and Niall was pointing to me. (Famous nouis line...) "In the words of the hit song by Carly Rae Jepson..." "Where'd you think your going baby!?!" They both said at the same time. I laughed a bit then Louis said, "Come on, don't be shy. Come 'ere." Louis said waving me over. I was confused, because we both agreed to keep our relationship a secret for a bit longer. I walked closer and Louis said, "Why don't you come on stage love?" I smiled then the security guard helped lift me up on the stage. Louis put out his hands to help me up. As I got on stage Louis hugged me tightly then whispered in my ear, "Watch this." I was confused but then he picked up the microphone and said, "For any of you who don't know who this is, which is probably most of you. This is my amazing wonderfully beautiful girlfriend y/n. I love her, and I thought what would be a better time to tell everyone about us other than now. I realized there wasn't. So that's why I wanted her to be at this show so badly." Everyone cheered and awed. After about 20 seconds my phone started blowing up from messages with my 1D group chat which started out as all girls who love one direction and is now just a bunch of my amazing friends. Soon I got off stage and messaged back on the group chat.

Sarah: y/n I know you said you had a boyfriend but you never said your boyfriend if Louis Fucking Tomlinson!

Sarah: Yeah, but that was meant as a joke.

Larrie posts would get 10s of thousands of likes. It was like a huge wave that carried you along.//// I was there. And honestly, I still go through some Larry theories once In a while. Just for fun. I recently read one of the scarlet letter and how both HL signaled their lives pertaining to the themes of the book- and it’s prob just a coincidence and the person who wrote it is obvs delulu but damn was it Interesting. Especially as a literature geek, that was a fun post to read. Very engaging. Bulletproof larrys blog is a hilarious place. And I am absolutely not a Larrie bc I just don’t have the time and energy to read into this now unlikely theory anymore. Not when all logic points to it being false all along. And not when the cult leaders are doll lady and Gina the fan fic lady. Both misogynistic assholes who are solo harries in disguise.

But the 1d fandom has been such a core part of my life that I simply cannot let it go. And why would I if I love being here? My happiest memories are 1D concerts and tumblr discussions and jokes and all types of ppl who ship different things and have different lanes and opinions coming together to just have fun. Like the day Eleanor and Lou broke up most of us were genuinely there for each other, just making jokes and talking abt how we miss and love her(bc god was 2015 a mess and what came after was all the crazy theories and confusing times). Only the toxic larries like I doll lady and lassurex(I think?) were being assholes that day and onward. The tumblr community on here was, by in large, a wonderful (dare I say safe for my introverted ass w only online friends at the time) place. And this fandom was SO SO SO huge that we usually squashed the rude peeps under a boot and went back to making jokes.

I do have plenty of friends who are still Larry shippers/larries, engage in the fandom, etc. It isn’t that deep for me or them- we’re just doing our thing. And they’re Def not toxic or crazy like the cult leaders. They’re just spectating and agreeing w certain things. I can’t relate- but I don’t like argue w them. I’m still streaming their music till this day( u can’t tell me what a feeling isn’t a BOP like it’s a B O P). (And strong has no right making me feel things in 2021). I still play the last 3 albums a couple times a month.I still watch some old videos and interviews where their youthful and vibrant personalities shine through… especially the ones from the midnight memories era bc that was the best era. I still read Larry fics(💀) bc it’s just fun. One of the best things I’ve ever read is that young & beautiful fan fiction. Truly a skilled writer. And yes in a fictional world I do ship it idc if all the other anons will have my head for it. The chemistry was v much there during those years, U won’t convince me otherwise. U can’t make me Unsee what I still see when I watch those interviews and vids. I do see the nature of their relationship during those years as suspicious and very intense and idgaf if I’m just crazy for it cus I’m not actively pushing it and pretending I know the facts. And fuck is it fun to do these things in my free time. And that’s the purpose of fandom. To have fun. None of this is that deep. And this was a fandom for those of us born in the 90s/early 2000s. Our middle school or high school or college years WERE these 5 kids. Some maintained their authenticity. Some fell off. Some- Idk. Some’s solo stuff I enjoy, some I don’t. Some I think are secretly assholes cough mr homewrecker, the rest I think are good at their core(Exept Liam I’m eh on him but I wish him the very best.) I don’t Stan them per se anymore(though I’m still emotionally attached to 1/2 of the Larry ship cough it’s not the one we hate on), but they’ll always mean a lot to me. And when any of them drop an album I will listen. Even when hs3 drops I’ll be a masochist and listen to him whine about cockburn. That’s just what it means to be a directioner. And yk what the Larry ship was so much fun for us fans but it caused sm harm to these real ppl- I wish ppl would’ve accepted it’s just a fantasy of two men who just have this intense chemistry, and likely a deep bond(that WASNT A ROMANCE.) I wish ppl would’ve accepted it when they denied it, even if their behavior was, like I said, intense and suspicious, it’s not the fandoms business. These boys were overworked asf I’m sure they didn’t appreciate us bugging them 24/7 abt it. And clearly, larries were wrong abt their perception of this bond. And if Larry ever were something *more* it’s sure as hell over now. Mr Donny chav and mr homewrecker probably never want a teenager daughter who’s allowed on the internet bc us teenage girls basically ruined a lot for them. And yk what? I feel guilt for the very minimal part I played in it. Even if it was never too serious for me- I should’ve called out some Tin hat behavior some mutuals displayed.

It’s rumoured to be a frequently misheard lyrics line from The Temper Trap’s Sweet Disposition where the line is actually “won’t stop to surrender”

To me personally, Sweet Disposition sounds eerily similar to 1D’s Best Song Ever. At the time of its release, Twittersphere had several hot takes on whether Best Song Ever was a rip-off of Baba O’Riley by the Who. Directioners got #donttouchbestsongever trending due to a rumour that the Who was trying to have Best Song Ever removed from YouTube.

Pete Townshend, the Who guitarist, ended the made-up feud with this response:

No! I like the single. I like One Direction.

The chords I used and the chords they used are the same three chords we’ve all been using in basic pop music since Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran, and Chuck Berry made it clear that fancy chords don’t mean great music – not always. I’m still writing songs that sound like ‘Baba O’Riley’ – or I’m trying to!

I’m happy to think they may have been influenced a little bit by the Who. I’m just relieved they’re not all wearing boiler suits and Doc Martens, or Union Jack jackets.

Okay okay wait-

Harry Styles, okay?

Now, I'm not saying anything because yes I love him and Louis Tomlinson both and I think no matter what they are great artists and great people bUT-

I know people have talked about this before, and there's so many proofs people have made about Larry Stylinson, but I wanted to make a little post to fill me Directioner heart real quick.

In an interview in their (1D) early days, Harry was afraid to have his nails painted, but Louis told him that it would make him beautiful.

So what do we have now? Harry always paints his nails, and let me say, yes they look beautiful on him.

But that's not all.

Just following the stereotype that I happen to fill myself, Harry is rarely seen without his nails done. He also always has a ring on at least 8 of his 10 fingers. Following up with that, Harry does awkward peace signs and sometimes he does The Finger Guns. You know the ones.

In his song Medicine, he says he messed around with boys AND girls and he doesn't mind either. Lights Up is also pretty much a coming out story if we're being honest. He's spoken out on multiple occasions about toxic masculinity, lgbtq+ pride, feminism, and many other topics as such.

I know he says he doesn't like labels and he doesn't want one put on him, but based off this information...is Mr. Harold Styles a bisexual?

That's only putting a label of course, because I personally, while I label myself as bi, I wouldn't mind dating a trans or non-binary person, and I don't think he would either. But just for the sake of my argument with the aesthetic and such, that's why I use the label I do.

Nearly five years ago, I saw One Direction live. Twice, on consecutive nights – on the first two dates of their On the Road Again world tour. Once was for work, to review the show. The other was for the sheer, heady, sugar-rush pleasure.

I was, I’ll admit, a little on the old side for a Directioner, even then. Most of the 45,000-odd crowd was much younger – not that that you would necessarily be able to tell from the saucy suggestions on their homemade signs. “I don’t want to draw attention to them,” Liam Payne had said fussilyon stage.

It was an on-brand comment for the then-21-year-old Payne, who, had the harried, slightly anxious energy of a father-of-four at Disneyland. And no wonder: it was clear, even to me, that Zayn Malik had checked out, barely bothering to conceal his rolling eyes. He would be gone within the month, marking the beginning of the end (or “indefinite hiatus”) for the biggest boy band in the world.

“It was a point where every day, you didn’t know whether it was going to be the end,” says Payne, sitting in the offices of his PR company in central London. “It was so touch and go, at every single show. I was slowly losing the plot.”

Now 26 and almost totally tattooed, Payne has a new album on which he raps about getting rowdy on Bacardi and being “free” from 1D. At the same time his very-nearly-naked form is plastered on buses and train stations in a provocative ad campaign for Hugo Boss.

Yet Payne is as polite and agreeable as if he were talking to his best friend’s mother. He is tired he says after an energetic early morning music video shoot. “There was a trampoline involved,” he says, sucking on his silver Juul. “It was hell – but it will look great.”

Gym beast and sex symbol are relatively new tags. His role as the diplomat of the group was established from the time they were first assembled from five solo applicants on The X Factor in 2010.

Payne auditioned when he was just 14, but was told by Simon Cowell to “come back in two years”. He did – and, eyes serious beneath his enormous fringe, blew the judges away with a brassy rendition of Cry Me a River.

Growing up in Wolverhampton, he had been a talented cross-country runner – making the reserve list for the British Olympics team. But a fan of Usher, Justin Timberlake and Chris Brown, he was drawn to singing as “the thing that made my parents proudest”. His backup plan, had he not got through on X Factor, was to follow his father into an aircraft fitting factory.

Once grouped in One Direction it took the five boys, then between 16 and 19, to pull together. “At the start we couldn’t get past our own egos,” says Payne. There would be fights over who got to sing what part, and even personal style. “Everybody had their own little thing – it was like having four older brothers.”

Payne went on to write songs for the group, contributing to two-thirds of their 2014 album Four (arguably their best) and even earning a production credit on 2015’s Made in the AM. But in the early days he would be the one to sing the opening part because, he was told at the time, he “used to settle everybody”.

Payne says he was a more experienced performer than the other boys, and a “bit more mature” – which he puts down to spending more time with his dad than his peers, and being so focused on a career in showbusiness. “I’d lived a different lifestyle from 14 to 16. Most kids try alcohol and experiment – I never did any of that because I thought there’s a chance that I might make it.”

Management took advantage of this, he says, telling him his “very specific role” in the group was to keep the rest in line. “I was like, that’s great, innit – because then everyone in the band thinks I’m a dick.” He remembers one of the band’s first hotel stays. “We’ve got plates being thrown out the window, mattresses being ridden down the stairs, and I’m getting calls from the manager saying: ‘You need to sort it out’.”

It wasn’t lost on the fans. Where Malik and Styles were the heartthrobs, Payne says he was classed as Mr Boring. “When you’re at the stadium, and if you get the least screams, it’s like: ‘For fuck’s sake.’”

After a year playing 1D-Dad he gave up and learned to have fun. “If you can’t beat them, join them” – at which point, he notes wryly, the band’s public image became more cheeky and carefree. “And the more fun we had, the more successful it got.”

He recalls performing to sold-out stadiums night after night, seeing “hundreds” of iPhones being thrown onstage in the vain hopes of their being returned with a selfie. “It’s like the kids just lost their minds.”

“There were parts of it that were a bit shit, like there is with anything,” he says, “and there were parts of it that was just euphoria.”

He recalls seeing 15,000 fans camped outside his hotel room in Lima, Peru. Security had advised them to stay inside all day, and because “they were the adults, we thought they were in charge. Then over time we started to figure out that they weren’t, and that’s when we used to run off.”

Yet the adrenaline peaks of performing, followed by long troughs of tedium, were akin to a drug addiction, says Payne. He turned to alcohol. “Doing a show to however many thousands of people, then being stuck by yourself in a country where you can’t go out anywhere – what else are you going to do? The minibar is always there. ”

For a time, he was also taking an epilepsy drug as a mood stabiliser that he says affected his cognitive functioning under certain lights. Payne says he had been well advised to take it, to counter the “erratic highs and lows” he was experiencing – “I just needed a little bit of help to keep me stable” – “but under certain lights on stage or during interviews, I wouldn’t be able to tell them my name”.

The day we meet, Payne has made headlines for telling Ant Middleton on the pair’s Sky One show that the loneliness of fame had “almost nearly killed” him. When Middleton asked Payne if he had ever wanted to act on those feelings, Payne said that he had: “100%”.

He is not inclined to discuss this today, “because it’s a bit dark,” he says, a touch brusquely – “but yeah, it was very touch and go at times”. This was both in 1D and afterwards, he clarifies. As One Direction got bigger and bigger, he says, “I was like: ‘I don’t really know how to deal with this’. Once you start, you can’t really press the stop button.”

The “indefinite hiatus” button, though, was easier – in mid-2015, four months after Malik’s departure, the band made the decision together. “It was a little bit dark and twisted towards the end of it,” says Payne, “but the last few shows were really beautiful moments because the pressure cooker had been let off.

“It was almost like counting down to holiday – we were going to wake up that Monday morning with no schedule.” Afterwards Payne was in therapy for two years, and took six months off. “It was difficult at the start, because I didn’t really know anything about myself. It was a bit of a numb feeling.”

That schedule is about to get busier, with Payne’s debut album as a solo artist finally out this Friday. Laden with chart-friendly trop house, trap and Latin pop influences, LP 1 plays like a water cannon aimed at commercial radio – there is even a Christmas song.

It has been a long lead-up: the first single, Strip That Down, was released nearly two years ago and established Payne as the 1D member most influenced by contemporary hip-hop – perhaps too much so. A picture he posted to Instagram of himself in February 2018 wearing a chain necklace, flipping the bird and bragging about travelling by private jet was quietly deleted following ridicule.

Amid the success of Strip That Down, which was streamed over 1bn times, Payne was also still “struggling” with alcohol: “I just hid it very well.” He went on to spend an entire year sober – a necessary if boring step. “My social life completely plummeted. I always feel like you never get past the awkward first 10 minutes at a party, when everyone’s like: ‘Do we get up and dance, or do we just sit here?’ I don’t know whether it made me happier, but it was definitely needed.”

His more recent stint of self-discipline was to prepare for his nude photo shoot with model Stella Maxwell for Hugo Boss. In the lead-up, he was in the gym between “five and eight times a week, sometimes twice a day” and eating mostly chicken and vegetables – with no carbohydrates after 2pm and nothing at all after 8pm. For the last “stripping” phase, he ate nothing but porridge and white fish for a month. “It was horrible – but it definitely works.”

The shoot had been his idea, inspired by campaigns featuring David Beckham and Mark Wahlberg – Payne’s role models, whose cross-disciplinary celebrity shapes his own career goals. Last year he auditioned in front of Steven Spielberg for a part in next year’s West Side Story remake, and has been submitting audition tapes irregularly since. “It’s just trying to manage the time in between (...), singer, model and whatever.”

Between the trap beats, tighty-whities and tattoos is he attempting to put across a new, more grown-up image? “Oh yeah, definitely.”

In One Direction, he was “Mr Vanilla – no one wanted to know a thing”. Then, with the “chain and rapper phase … I didn’t really know what I was aiming for, but it was actually exactly where we are right now. I just needed to find the right keys to make me feel like the man I wanted to be.”

Which is, he jokes, is “like a really English Magic Mike”. Do you like being objectified, I ask? “I think it’s quite funny,” says Payne, clearly delighted. The other day, he says, someone sent him a picture of an old lady walking past an enormous blown-up poster of him in his pants. Not bad for Mr Vanilla, I say. “Exactly.”

My 10 Years of 1D

HAPPY 10 YEARS OF ONE DIRECTION!!!!

As much as I joke about 1D ruining my life, they’ve been a part of it for longer than I care to admit. Honestly, One Direction has given me many friendships and memories that have shaped me over the past eight years. 

I know it’s not quite July 23rd here in the US, but it is in the UK so I’m just  gonna post. I always think it’s fun to look back on the memories surrounding this band, and to also hear about how other people came to be fans. No pressure if you don’t like this idea, but I’m going to tag a few people to share their “10 years of 1D” if they’d like! Fill out your 1D timeline with any fun memories, pics etc. you’d like to share, and then tag a few other directioners!

2010-2011: 

I’m blissfully living on the other side of the Atlantic, unaware that the formation of a British-Irish boyband is about to ruin my life forever

2012:

WMYB hits US radios. I like the song. 

In May at my dance recital, someone tells me to look into One Direction. I watch the funny moments video in bed that night. I buy Up All Night on iTunes the next day. This anniversary would be celebrated at the three subsequent dance recitals (with a cake baked by one of my classmates). My life is never the same.

2013:

Peak One Direction (and peak fangirl). I become OBSESSED. My walls are filled with posters, I buy a Future Mrs. Tomlinson shirt.

 My friends and I camp out at the movie theatre so we are the first ones to see This Is Us (the people at the movie theatre think we are crazy because we are there five hours early 😂)

My friend and I start this blog. 

1DDay (no explanation needed)

Fangirl Fridays are born. A tradition in which my group of friends and directioners send each other one direction memes every Friday. (This only lasts about a year but it was epic trust me).

I don’t get tickets to the Take Me Home tour (and honestly one of my biggest regrets).

2014: 

The craziness continues. My friends and I write fanfictions with each other as characters (lol) and send each other homecoming corsages from our favorite boy. 

In August, my best friend and I see 1D live for the first time (I skip my third day of my college classes for this). We are even more in love with them after seeing them live. Unfortunately, they don’t fall in love with us from our 200 level seats.

Oh and if you want some real entertainment, we posted video diaries documenting our trip on this blog (*cringe*)

2015:

March 25th: Zayn leaves. I find out when I’m leaving my boyfriend’s dorm. I go to my friend’s dorm before lunch and cry on their floor. I force several people to watch This Is Us with me over the next few days.

I literally pick my sorority roommate for the next year based on the fact that we both like One Direction.

July: OTRA tour. We have floor seats this time and are fairly close to the B stage. This concert ruins my seating for every future concert. Oh, we also ran halfway around the stadium because we heard screaming and thought there was a boys spotting.

1D announces “hiatus” and I am devastated. I convince myself (like many others) that this is only eighteen months.

2016:

Our first taste of Solo 1D. It fills the void in my life since hiatus. 

2017: 

Flicker Sessions is my first Solo 1D concert. I’m so proud of Niall (who is quickly becoming my new fave). 

We miss meeting Niall’s band in the mall near the venue by MINUTES (will honestly never forgive myself). 

2018:

Solo 1D concerts round two!

We see Harry live, and win upgraded floor seats. (Unfortunately these seats are not nearly as close to the catwalk or stage as we would have dreamed). I pull an all-nighter so I can be back to my mandatory PA school class in the morning.

In quite possibly the biggest bargain of my life, we buy $20 lawn seats to see Niall once again, but then upgrade to ten rows back for $10. Niall is amazing as always.

2019:

Same old shit but a different (year).

2020:

Was really hoping to add some concerts to my list this year, but the rona and PA school had different plans. 

10 Years of 1D hopefully meets my expectations (stay tuned)

After his successful stint on last year's The X Factor, Louis delighted his fans in March when he dropped his amazing new single 'Two Of Us'.

The song, which is adored by fans, is a tribute to Louis' late mum Johannah Deakin. Johannah left behind seven children, including Louis, at the end of 2016, when she lost her battle with an aggressive form of leukaemia at the age of just 42.

Louis' track 'Two Of Us' features the lyrics, "I know you'll be looking down, swear I'm gonna make you proud. I'll be living one life for the two of us."

What do u think about Simon cowell? I think the directioners made him the unnecessary villain for no reason. The only ones who didn't like Simon were harry and Zayn. Zayn left suddenly without reason so it's obvious. Harry broke up the band and Simon didn't like it. He was upset about it as it was mentioned in Howard Stern's show. He told harry in 2014 that he wasn't good enough to go solo. Otherwise the other boys seemed fine with him. Louis is obviously close to him. Txf, him being signed to syco even after hiatus, He was even rumoured to be Freddie's godfather- they r close. Niall signed to modest management and said that they had always been amazing to him. Liam thanked Simon in most award shows.

Not keen on Simon but certainly don't see him as Mr Evil. He misjudged Harry's potential and tried to tether him to 1d by refusing to let him work with brands or do any interviews without the band, but Louies should thank him for Louis' entire career - look how well Louis is doing without him lol.

Allllllright so here we are, as promised, a masterpost of some of the crazy stuff that has happened in the One Direction fandom since the beginning of time. This list definitely isn’t exhaustive because I’m pretty sure it’s virtually impossible for someone to remember absolutely everything so feel free to message me/reblog with additions, but with that said lets get going:

1) #LETNIALLSING

off to a great start!!! this hashtag was started during a one direction performance pretty early on in their career, when fans noticed that Niall’s mic pack had been turned off during his solo. people immediately thought that it was management (shocker) who turned off his mic because they didn’t think he was talented enough to have a solo during their live shows, and so #LetNiallSing (LNS for short) was born. fans created a petition on change.org (seriously) so that Niall could have his fair share of solos during 1D’s performances, and tons of fan videos and edits were made (example) -- they’re literally amazing please google them. turns out that during the performance that started #LetNiallSing, Niall had accidentally sat down on his mic pack which caused it to turn off which was why you couldn’t hear his voice, so LNS kinda just died. it’s a good memory though.

4) Stalker Sarah and her accidental feature in the What Makes You Beautiful music video

Stalker Sarah (heres a little background info on her) (is she still around????) was basically a girl who had met like literally every celebrity and had a particular fascination with one direction 

one day someone noticed that Sarah had made a surprise appearance in the background of the What Makes You Beautiful music video. I’m pretty sure this one isn’t real but its still funny and there were a lot of good memes about it back in the day (example)

5) Lewis Jones

Jumping a little ahead in time here, meet Stalker Sarah 2.0, LEWIS JONES. again, not a whole lot to say about him, more of a reminder that all of those pictures exist

9) The Calder Triplets

This fancy little theory came out of ~2013. The idea was that 1D’s Management recruited 3 actresses to stand in as Louis’ girlfriend on a carefully calculated cycle for reasons that I’m not gonna get into on this post but you can easily google them. 

Eleanor (the only actual Calder) apparently had 2 sisters, Gretchen and Tina, this was mainly because of a number of pictures in which Eleanor’s face looked different, or because of Eleanor’s height differing in comparison to Louis depending on the picture. Here’s a good post that’ll walk you through the whole debacle.

10) Mr. X

Mr. X was this anonymous twitter account that “”””predicted”””” stuff about One Direction and then one day he was like oh yeah btw someones gonna kill Harry and people freaked out and #HarryBeCareful was trending on twitter

11) Niall Violently Masturbating in Japan

MY PERSONAL FAVOURITE. This is probably one of the funniest One Direction rumours in the world, maybe one of the best pop culture rumours of all time and I am not being dramatic. It is so funny like I don’t know how else to describe it it’s so good. LETS GET TO IT. The story is basically that while One Direction was on tour in Japan, a fan found Niall up in his hotel room “vigorously masturbating”, banging the walls, swearing, and yelling some phrases that could only have been brought to us by the comedy gods themselves; “wey hey”, “up the lads”, and “that’s the craic”. The girl apparently had a video and was blackmailing Niall, saying that if he didn’t “hang out with her” she would release the video.

This is (obviously) fake but it’s seriously one of the funniest things that I can think of at any given moment. Here’s a link to a masterpost of some of the jokes that came out if it. So good.

12) The fanfic about Harry that got published into a real legit book

I actually hate this one, I think it’s awful but it was dramatic at the time so here it is.  For completely obvious reasons, Harry’s name in the story had to be changed, so the author changed it to Hardin. I’ll let you mull that one over.

13) One Direction’s trip to Australia when Liam had his underwear stolen straight off of his hotel balcony by some girls who also tried to break into his room

Harry was looking at some good old fashioned twitter porn when he accidentally faved a pretty graphic pic, and then in true Harry fashion made a joke about the weather and faved a bunch of pictures of puppies and kittens to cover it up. 15) Last but definitely not least, Conchobar Tomlinson

Before sweet lil Freddie Tommo (here’s a pic of him just because he is so cute that i cant stand it) was named for real, someone started a rumour that his name would be Conchobar, which is an Irish name that is apparently “pronounced like Connor”. Hi there!! I’ve really enjoyed your blog! I’ve been a 1D fan since 2011 - and when the boys took a break I did as well (you know college and all that jazz). Always have followed Harry closer than the other boys in the years following but this past year I’ve been getting back into my hardcore directioner days haha (especially in the last two months since I saw my love, Mr. Styles last month). I hadn’t opened my tumble in YEARS! So I have no clue how it works anymore lol, but I’m trying!

Right now, I’m trying to possibly make some new friends who might be interested in going to any of the boys future concerts together (I ended up going to see Harry by myself - which I didn’t even care that I was alone because it was the most magical night of my life! But I really want to see Louis in February or March but I would have to be traveling out of state and don’t particularly want to go by myself.) do you have any recommendations on blogs to follow or people to follow who are friendly and kind hearted souls possibly looking to make a new friend and see Louis in either LA or Denver? I know this is so super specific and weird haha I just always love your input and advice on people’s questions! Thank you in advance!
