“I’m diluting the coolant.” Gon responded, setting a funnel atop the tank of sub-zero liquid.

“Diluting the- Gon, are you an idiot?”

“I don’t know Killua, am I?” he said,

“What the fuck does that even mean?”

“Am I dumb for diluting the coolant?”

“Yes. You are. The coolant is the only thing that keeps the engine from exploding.”

“I know that.”

“Then why are you diluting it down?”

“Because when Mr. Leorio pushed the engine, it didn’t overheat and melt, it froze first.”

“What the hell makes you think it froze first?”

“The separator would only crack if you then froze it then heated it. And that would only happen if the coolant was used all at once.”

“Or if you put the separator under excessive pressure.”

“Sure, or that, but that’s not what happened.”

“It might have been if the whole engine shrunk.”

Gon blinked.

“Did it?”

Killua furrowed his brows.

“I don’t know.”

The two grease-stained, scabby kneed twelve year olds looked up at Cheadle.

She was tracing her fingers over the a map of the western hemisphere of Earth and mumbling.

“Mrs. Cheadle?” said Gon, trying to be as polite as possible.

“Yes Gon?” She said, not looking up or stopping her tracing.

“Can we look at your original schematics?”

“Why do you need them?” she asked, furrowing her brow and actually turning to look at them.

“We need to compare the size of damaged engine to the original.” chimed in Killua from behind him.

“There was a 3.4% average decrease across every dimension of the inner and outer casing.” she said, looking back to the map.

Killua stuck his tongue out at Gon.

Gon licked his tongue and Killua screamed,

Then punched Gon in the face.

Cheadle closed her eyes and sighed as the pair descended into a shouting pile of fists and violence.

She was planning to let them wear themselves out with a half hour of punching and kicking, but they’d broken down into violence no less than a dozen times since they’d gotten to her place.

She shoved two hands into the pile of aggression and limbs, then ripped the pair apart.

“Boys!” She shouted, her frustation with the pair idiot children that were he coworkers final boiling over.

“If you can’t be civil, don’t be together.”

“Killua started it!”

“What do you mean I started it, you’re the one-”

“Ok!” Cheadle shouted again, drowning out the arguing of tinier lungs.

“I don’t care who started it, I care that we get done what needs to be done.” Her tone had slipped from motherly scolding to enraged foreman. “If you two can’t work together, you’re going back to the Wastes.”

Both Gon and Killua looked at the floor.

Cheadle pinched the bridge of her nose as the boys stood, ashamed and injured.

She really hadn’t meant to threaten them,their fights were getting worse.

This time Gon’s lips were a split and bloody mess and Killua had a bite on his leg that bled a worrying amount.

Cheadle sighed.

“Go wash off in the pool, Leorio can treat your injuries.”

“We’re fine.” Killua said, looking up and glaring back. “Wouldn’t want to go back to the wastes.

His tone was ice.

Cheadle wasn’t impressed.

“No, you’re not.” She said, tone flat.

Killua’s glare didn’t soften.

“If you get even a drop of blood into the coolant it will; react, explode, and shower the room in -234 degree coolant, killing any on still inside.”

Killua’s grunted.

“Get washed up.” Cheadle said.

Killua didn’t move.

Gon tugged on Killua’s elbow, both of the pale boy’s hands being in his pockets.

Killua stormed off, Gon already chirping on about something unrelated but cheerful.

Cheadle sighed and slouched.

“I’m not a mother.” she said before sighing again.
