I realized I've been just doing a bunch of advertising instead of just talking here. So I wanted to just like. I dunno. Talk.
Hello, I'm Andy! I'm a guy who loves birds, camping, the wilderness, and that spooky feeling around twilight during fall. Ya'know, the spooky feeling you kind of want to walk towards down the sidewalk, the leaves crunching, before the streetlights flicker on? When the veil between reality and dreaming is thinnest, and maybe you can catch a glimpse of the last leshen hiding in the old oak.
But birds are cool.
Back in 2020, my partner and I sold just about everything we owned and moved into an 80sqft RV because we were miserable in the town we lived in. We had were relocated there when we had just graduated from college, and we just... existed there.
Ten years later, we said to hell with it, sold everything, and traveled around the US trying to find a new town to live in. We ended up in a cute town called Greenville, SC in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
It was during my time in the RV that I started game design! I wrote Storyteller - it's a campfire horror game designed to just be played with whatever you have on hand.
And I wrote it for me. Because I still wanted to play games while traveling, but everything required dice, or pencils or or or. How do you play a ttrpg with just some random people you met at a campground from across a bonfire in twilight with low light?
And then it spiraled out of control, and now I run my own game company?! (but still have a day job in Education... so far)
It's called Pandion Games because while we were traveling in the RV up the eastern coast, we would hunt out osprey nests and watch them. We'd even pull off to the side of the road if we spotted one and grab the binoculars. Osprey's scientific name is Pandion Haliaetus!
I also have two dogs - Cashmere and Elsa!
And a cat - Minnow!
They all love each other. I love them. They're awesome. Cashmere does our taxes. Elsa tries to help, but is bad with numbers, but it's the effort that counts. <3
Minnow is a demon, providing endless entertainment for herself while slowly destroying all soft surfaces in the house before snuggling with us to make us forget all about her evil deeds. As kittens do.
I am also learning how to dress myself still.

Dallas band names
youtube
BEAUTY AND THE BEAT: From left, Candi Shell, Annie Rex and Gloria Hole unleash fearless glamazon drag ditties on Dallas’ music scene.
Band camp
Plucked, tucked and ready to rock, She-DICK set out to conquer the North Texas music scene.
But is Cedar Springs ready for a naughty trio of electro, hip-hopping drag divas?
By DANIEL KUSNER |
At a recent photo session, Gloria Hole busts out her mini Casio keyboard, and soon, a chintzy, percolating version of “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” fills the air.
Then come gales of laughter as bandmate Candi Shell almost trips over her guitar case.
Annie Rex is still catching her breath from the country-tinged sing-a-long “Land of the Free,” the trio’s ode to the Bush administration that rhymes “Karl Rove” with “that nappy-headed ho-ooooo, Condoleezza Rice.”
Y’all, meet She-DICK, a new drag band that’s landing gigs in Lower Greenville, Fair Pak and Denton but has yet to grace any of stages in Oak Lawn. Maybe they’re too new — or maybe they just don’t fit in.
Candi Shell, a.k.a. Dan Paul, is 30 years old and the oldest member of the band.
Paul is a former art student at the University of North Texas who moved to Dallas two years ago.
Paul and Gloria Hole (a.k.a. Peter Holy) are partners: Holy is actually native of the Czech Republic who moved to the U.S. when he was a little boy.
Third member Annie Rex may be transitioning out of the group. Annie apparently has a high-profile career with a public relations firm and can’t afford to have his identity exposed.
According to Paul, since She-DICK’s popularity is growing, Annie might be replaced.
There is a fourth member of the band — Hans HandiKraft, the beats and techno producer who helps organize She-DICK’s zany, nasty, electro-hip-hopping ditties.
Hans doesn’t do drag, but music-wise, he may be the most important person behind She-DICK’s success.
The girls first got together in October 2006, as they made their “water-balloon titties” debut at the annual Halloween block party in Oak Lawn (not the Alan Ross Texas Freedom Parade, which had been incorrectly reported in a previous Dallas Voice article).
This weekend, they’re performing at The Cavern, and next weekend, She-DICK is double-booked — playing The Monkey Bar and Minc Lounge, where they’re opening for gay white-boy rap sensation Cazwell.
They’re gay dudes, they’re in glamazon drag. Why isn’t She-DICK gigging out in Oak Lawn?
“Dallas’ gay scene is pretty homogeneous and kind of dead. Maybe I shouldn’t say that because I don’t really go out that much,” Paul says.
“But everyone seems to fit into one suit — which is whatever Out magazine or the Advocate says is socially acceptable. It’s a pretty conservative gay scene for the size of our city.”
“The Rose Room has some amazingly cool drag queens,” Holy adds.
“But the feedback we’ve gotten is, unless you’re a lip-synching pageant winner, you’re never going to perform at any of the clubs on Cedar Springs.”
That’s not entirely true.
Last summer, JR’s Bar & Grill did host a “battle of the bands” series for acts that are usually consigned to Deep Ellum. But She-DICK wasn’t even concept back then.
However, She-DICK might be a little too “East Village ‘crude and rude’ club-kid cabaret” for the Cedar Springs district — for now.
They’re in cahoots with a film company to shoot a “She-DICK” movie with hopes of hitting the film festival circuit, to gain wider, perhaps national exposure.
And with their twice-a-week rehearsal schedule, they hope to release an album by November. So far, it seems straight audiences are welcoming them with open arms.
“And Oak Lawn never seems to care for us, then that’s okay,” Holy says. “But I have a feeling that they’ll eventually catch on.”
DICKING AROUND TOWN
On July 13 at 10 p.m., She-DICK perform at The Cavern, 1914 Greenville Ave. $6. 214-828-1914
On July 20, She-DICK perform at The Monkey Bar. 408 Exposition Ave. Free. 214-827-1129.
On July 21, She-DICK open for Cazwell at Minc Lounge, 813 Exposition Ave. 214-370-4077.

Unveiling the Truth Behind Business and Politics: A Journey with Ryan Alford
Hey Tumblr fam! 👋
If you’re into no-BS business talk, then you need to check out the latest episode of "Right About Now with Ryan Alford." As always, Ryan and his crew are bringing the heat with discussions that blend business, politics, and a good dose of reality. 🌍
📅 August 24, 2024 – This week’s episode is packed with everything from TV show recs to deep dives into the current state of the economy. Ryan, despite being under the weather, is back in the studio with his trusty co-hosts, Brian Hall and Chris Hansen, ready to dissect the week’s biggest stories.
TV Talk and Southern Charm
Ryan kicks off the episode with a shoutout to "Out of Range," a show that was like Yellowstone but with a sci-fi twist. He’s pretty bummed that it got canceled after just two seasons—just when he was getting into it! 🎥
On the flip side, Brian shares her excitement about moving to Greenville, South Carolina. She’s officially a local now, having left the high costs of California behind. Welcome to the South, y’all! 🌳
Chris, meanwhile, is holding down the fort in Miami, where the Democratic National Convention is stirring up all kinds of emotions. The crew dives into a convo about how the DNC’s focus on feelings might be giving them an edge over the more fact-driven Republicans. It’s an eye-opener on how emotions play a huge role in politics. 🎭
Layoffs and the Reality of Business Today
But it’s not all TV and politics. The team gets serious about the wave of layoffs hitting major companies like General Motors, Cisco, and Intel. Thousands of jobs are being cut, and AI is partly to blame. Ryan and the gang discuss how businesses are getting leaner at the expense of real people losing their livelihoods. 😔
There’s also a candid chat about the disconnect between what we’re told about the economy and what’s really happening. Ryan isn’t afraid to call out the media for their bias and questions why we’re not seeing more positive news if things are supposedly going so well. 🤔
When Politics Meets Business
The conversation naturally veers into the messy intersection of politics and business. The team talks about the impeachment buzz around Biden, the controversies with his son, and how the media shapes our perceptions. It’s a raw and unfiltered take that makes you think twice about what you’re hearing in the news. 📰
Ryan also shares some personal experiences from his marketing agency, highlighting how rising costs are squeezing profit margins. It’s a reminder that no matter what industry you’re in, the challenges are real, and the struggle is universal. 💼
The Lighter Side: Worst States to Live In?
In a fun twist, the crew discusses an article listing the worst states to live in, with South Carolina making the list. Ryan’s not having it, though, and defends his home state with pride. 💪
Wrapping Up with a Laugh
The episode winds down with a story about Disney Plus and a legal case that’s a bit of a head-scratcher. It’s a reminder to always read the fine print—because you never know what you might be signing away! 📜
And of course, Ryan gives a big shoutout to Brandon Bills, the official merchandise sponsor of the podcast. If you’re looking for some top-notch branded gear, you know where to go! 👕
Join the Conversation
Catch the full episode on RyanisRight.com and don’t forget to follow us for more updates. Let’s keep the convo going—because there’s always more to talk about in the world of business and beyond.

(GD+I Internship) 5/28/2024 - 5/30/2024: First Week at Fresh Water Systems
Role at Fresh Water Systems: During my internship at Fresh Water Systems, I will work with an E-commerce brand that distributes water filtration components directly to consumers and businesses. In this role, I will be able to take on leadership responsibilities in various projects such as brand identity creation, packaging design, advertising campaigns, digital merchandising strategies, and more. I am excited to collaborate closely with the marketing team, where I anticipate expanding my knowledge and skills in digital marketing. The guidance and mentorship I will receive throughout these projects are invaluable in helping me build a robust portfolio and preparing me to thrive in the competitive landscape of creative employment opportunities.
Duration of Internship: 5/28/2024 - 8/20/2024, 20 hrs a week, 3 days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday)
This week marked the beginning of my very first Graphic Design Internship with Fresh Water Systems, which is based in Greenville, SC. Due to the current circumstances, I'm carrying out this internship remotely. I started the week with an orientation session with Heather Banerjee, where we delved into the company's history and operations and took care of some necessary paperwork to kickstart my position. On the same day, I had the opportunity to have a one-on-one meeting with my new supervisor, Alayna Rollings. She holds the role of marketing lead at Fresh Water Systems. During our meeting, we discussed the upcoming rebranding project for NeoLogic Solutions and my responsibilities as an intern. I was thrilled to receive my first project assignment, which involved designing new graphics and A+ Content for "I'm Vita," a product available on FSW.com.
During my first week with the company, I was involved in a graphics project for the "I'm Vita" products. In addition to these tasks, I also took on smaller projects, such as reviewing label designs and editing product images. Working with Alayna, who plays a pivotal role in holding the marketing department together, has been a fantastic experience. For the project, I was responsible for creating graphics highlighting the features of the I'm Vita shower filter and producing two graphics demonstrating the installation process and an aromatherapy callout image. At the outset, I felt enthusiastic but also slightly apprehensive, given the minimal directions provided compared to the detailed creative briefs I was accustomed to from my professors. To tackle this project, I started by thoroughly researching the product to gain a deep understanding of its functionality and installation process. I then delved into Illustrator and crafted three drafts for the features callout graphic, followed by another three for the installation graphic. Upon Alayna's selection of the preferred drafts, I refined the final images, incorporating color and reviewing the copy for any errors in spelling or design. Moving on to the aromatherapy callout image, I encountered the most challenging aspect of the project. I researched the product and sought inspiration and images from istock.com, producing three distinct drafts. After incorporating feedback from Alayna, I worked on the final image. Upon completion, all the graphics were uploaded to a OneDrive folder and submitted to Asana for review. Following approval, they were then added to FWS.com.
View the graphics I designed here:
My first week at Fresh Water Systems was incredibly fulfilling. I contributed to several meaningful projects and collaborated with a fantastic team. I'm excited to continue learning and growing throughout the rest of my internship.

Courtney Blake, 31 years old. Little sister to Sebastian and others. Married to the love of her life, Cohen. Dog mama to Seymour and lizard mama to Roscoe. Southern Belle and dancing queen. Maia Mitchell
About Me || Connections || Timeline || + Navigation
name: Courtney Elizabeth Blake (née Thomas)
faceclaim: Maia Mitchell
gender & pronouns: she/her
sexuality: Heterosexual
relationship status: Married
age: 31
birthday: 3/17/1993
place of birth: Fayetteville, NC
occupation: receptionist at Hopeful Horizons Medical Center
neighborhood: Driftwood Haven (Horizon Park)
Time since arriving in kismet harbor: 2 years (2022)
Born into a large family in North Carolina, Courtney lived a simple life. She had two parents that loved her, and adoring siblings. She was your typical girly girl, one who loved to play dress up, dance, and throw tea parties. Her parents both worked hard, her father owning his own construction company, and her mother was a pharmacist. They lived comfortably and wanted to give their kids the best loves they could.
After moving towns (to Greenville) when her father got a better job, they moved into the house next door to the Blake Family. Little did she (or anyone else know) that that cute little boy Cohen would be the love of her life.
Though when he would be shipped off to military school at the age of 14, she tried her best to get over it. However she couldn't and she promised herself (and Cohen) that they'd make it work.
She did above average in school, earning As and Bs, but was not nearly at the top of her class. Socially she didn't necessarily fit into any one clique, choosing more to bounce around, friendly with everyone. However, she didn't date anyone in that time, she had fallen head over heels for Cohen Blake and despite the distance, she couldn't see herself with anyone else.
They'd visit over the summers and it would be the best days of her life. She did the college thing, and wanted to finish all four years. But that's when tragedy struck, her father had been hurt in an accident at work. Causing Courtney to delay her studies, however she did earn her Associates degree, allowing her to get at least a secretary job in town. This pushed her to desire to become a nurse to help people.
All this time, she kept in touch with Cohen, all throughout his own tragedies in life. She stuck by him, waiting for him. And when he returned they married, a small ceremony (one that was absolutely perfect in her eyes)
When Cohen’s older brother disappeared, she helped in any way she could. Whether that was emotionally or physically. She would do anything for him.
Since moving to Kismet Harbor, she has become a receptionist at Hopeful Horizons Medical in order to earn enough money to save up for night school to get her nursing degree. Together with Cohen, they live in a small mobile home in Horizon Park. She still dreams of being a nurse, but she's just happy being with Cohen and living happily ever after.

Local TikTok creators eye ban with dread
SOCIAL MEDIA
Community, livelihood at stake for influencers
In early 2020, Victoria Jameson was selling clothes from her closet to cover bills.
The professional makeup artist saw her jobs vanish overnight during the pandemic, and her bank account dipped under $100.
Jameson, who had been trying to break into social media influencing, doubled down on TikTok, where she posted hair and makeup tutorials and random snippets of her life.
Her videos found an audience. Jameson, who lives in Dallas’ Lower Greenville area, gained tens of thousands of followers over the next year, eventually scoring partnerships with QuikTrip, L’Oréal and, most recently, Samsung.
“TikTok truly changed my life,” Jameson, 31, said. “It was the first time I felt like I could be myself on a platform without having to curate a perfect-looking life with a full face of makeup or clean house.”
As TikTok faces an uncertain fate in the U.S., Jameson and dozens of other Dallas-area content creators are pushing back against the looming ban while contemplating a future without a key piece of their business and livelihood.
Citing security threats, President Joe Biden signed a bipartisan bill last month to force Chinese company ByteDance to sell TikTok.
If not, the social media app will be banned.
TikTok has already said it will fight the law.
Roughly 30 states, including Texas, have already banned the app from government-issued devices.
Despite those concerns, TikTok has soared in popularity since its debut in 2016.
An estimated 170 million Americans, nearly half the U.S. population, use the app.
TikTok has also proved lucrative for content creators, who leverage the video-sharing app to extend their reach and secure paid deals with brands and perks such as free travel.
Marketing agencies have hired some as consultants.
‘Our voices don ’t matter ’
Jameson, who has 970,000 followers on TikTok, said the platform has allowed her to go from making barely $30,000 a year to a “comfortable, six-figure salary.”
She even landed a spot on The Bachelor in 2023.
Lately, she has also posted videos imploring her followers to contact their representatives to voice opposition to the ban.
She accused elected leaders of fear mongering and trying to legislate something they do not understand.
“If TikTok goes away, so will a large chunk of my income,” she said.
“Creators are frustrated, scared and upset that our voices don’t matter to legislators.”
Amy Jovel, 37, moved from New York City to Dallas in early 2022 and knew almost no one.
As she explored Dallas, she posted TikTok videos about fashion, shopping and restaurants, soon gaining 20,000 followers and a group of close friends, who are fellow content creators.
While Jovel looks for a job in the hospitality industry, TikTok has supplied a substantial portion of her income and helped build partnerships with several brands, including Dove and Fossil.
Jovel said she has watched news of the ban with growing apprehension.
“This is about business, but it’s bigger than that,” said Jovel, who recently moved to Carrollton. “
Lawmakers from both parties have expressed concerns that Chinese authorities could force ByteDance to hand over U.S. user data or influence Americans by suppressing or promoting certain content on TikTok.
For example, they worry the platform could try to sway elections.
Both TikTok and opponents of the law have argued there is no proof of such claims and that a ban violates freedom of speech.
“Rest assured, we aren’t going anywhere,” TikTok CEO Shou Chew said last month in a video response on X.
“The facts and the Constitution are on our side, and we expect to prevail again.”
Waiting it out
Michelle Tran, a 26-year-old content creator who posts videos about fashion, Dallas and hair and makeup, joined the app as a cash-strapped graduate student in Houston who found she could highlight local restaurants while earning free meals.
Tran returned to her native Dallas in summer 2023 with plans to apply for medical school, but for now TikTok is providing a steady source of income.
If the U.S. government wants to tackle cybersecurity, Tran said, it should pass laws addressing personal data beyond one social media company.
“Facebook has our data. Businesses have our data,” said Tran, who has 30,000 followers. “Our information is in the hands of other people. Why specifically target TikTok?”
Some content creators are unconcerned by the TikTok ban.
Aquia Francisco, 35, posts videos about Dallas shops and restaurants and travel on her social media platforms and for The Nudge, a service that sends members ideas for activities in their city, for which Francisco serves as the Dallas director. She has more than 38,000 followers on TikTok.
Francisco, who estimates she receives about 10% of her income through TikTok, encouraged fellow influencers to diversify their social media network and develop a website to serve as a landing page for content. She said she thinks the issue will be resolved before the platform is banned.
“I am definitely not in a panic,” she said. “Like a lot of people, I’m waiting to see how this plays out. I can’t really see TikTok disappearing.”

📡 Right About Now with Ryan Alford: Breaking Down Business, Politics, and Everything in Between 📊
Hey Tumblr fam! Welcome to the latest episode of Right About Now with Ryan Alford, the number one business show on the planet! We’ve been cutting through the BS in business for over six years, bringing you the most relevant news, insights, and unfiltered opinions on everything from economic shifts to political strategies.
Episode Date: August 24th, 2024
In this episode, Ryan Alford is joined by co-hosts Brian Hall and Chris Hansen to tackle some of the biggest topics of the week. From the emotional rollercoaster of political conventions to the harsh realities of mass layoffs, this episode is packed with discussions that matter.
Ryan’s Resilience: The Show Must Go On! 💪
Even though Ryan was feeling under the weather, he didn’t let that stop him from bringing you this week’s episode. After a bout with a stomach bug and a head cold, Ryan is back in action, reminding us all that sometimes you just have to push through the tough times.
While recovering, Ryan binge-watched Out of Range, only to discover that it got canceled after two seasons. It’s a reminder that sometimes the things we invest in don’t always pan out, whether it’s a TV show or a business venture.
Big Moves in the South: Brianna’s New Home in Greenville 🏠
Exciting news—Brianna has officially moved to Greenville, South Carolina! After leaving the hectic pace of California, she’s now a proud homeowner in a place known for its Southern charm and growing business scene. Greenville, or "G-Vegas" as it’s affectionately called, is quickly becoming a hotspot for professionals looking for a better quality of life.
Brianna’s move is part of a larger trend we’re seeing across the country: more and more people are leaving high-cost states in search of more affordable living and better business opportunities. Greenville, with its low cost of living and booming economy, is one of the top destinations for these new transplants.
The Emotional Appeal of Politics: A Double-Edged Sword 🎭
One of the most fascinating discussions in this episode revolves around the differences between the Democratic and Republican conventions. Ryan and the team explore how the Democrats have mastered the art of emotional appeal, while the Republicans focus more on facts and data.
Ryan shares an interesting insight from Ryan Stuman, who pointed out that while the Democrats might be winning the emotional game, they often lack substance when it comes to policy. It’s a powerful reminder that in both politics and business, it’s easy to be swayed by emotions, but it’s the hard data that ultimately drives decisions.
Mass Layoffs: What Do They Mean for the Economy? ⚠️
The economic landscape is shifting, and not always in a good way. Major companies like GM, Cisco, Intel, and MasterCard are laying off thousands of employees, raising concerns about the future of the workforce. Ryan and the team dive into the data, discussing how these layoffs might be tied to overregulation, the impact of AI, and the broader economic challenges we’re all facing.
Chris Hansen brings up a crucial point: AI is playing an increasing role in these layoffs. As companies automate more tasks, they need fewer employees, leading to a shrinking workforce. This trend raises important questions about the future of work and how we can ensure that innovation doesn’t come at the cost of human livelihoods.
The Cost of Living Crisis: A Small Business Perspective 💼
Ryan shares his experience running a marketing agency in today’s challenging economic climate. With costs rising across the board—labor, materials, and everything in between—business owners are struggling to maintain their margins. The reality is that while expenses are skyrocketing, clients aren’t necessarily willing to pay more, leaving businesses caught in a difficult position.
This discussion is a stark reminder that inflation isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a daily reality for small business owners. As costs continue to rise, the pressure on businesses to adapt and innovate becomes even more intense.
Legal Loopholes: The Dark Side of Disney Plus ⚖️
A particularly chilling segment of the show discusses a legal battle involving Disney Plus. A couple who tragically lost a loved one due to an allergic reaction at a Disney restaurant found themselves caught in a legal loophole because of the arbitration agreement they signed with Disney Plus. It’s a stark reminder to always read the fine print, as these agreements can sometimes cover more than we realize.
Policies Over Popularity: A Call for Rational Decision-Making 🧠
As the episode draws to a close, Ryan emphasizes the importance of prioritizing policies over popularity. In a world where emotions and sensationalism often dominate the conversation, the need for rational, data-driven decision-making has never been greater.
Thanks for tuning in! Be sure to visit RyanisRight.com for full audio and video versions of the show, and don’t forget to support our official merchandise sponsor, Brandon Bills. Until next time, stay informed, stay engaged, and keep striving for success!
