Pulled pork! Vinegar! Wrap! ~ Mike’s Way ~ Thank you for this, such a great idea!!
quinn hughes x coworker!reader
I’d be insane not to love you
—----------------------------------------------------
“I have an observation from today,” Quinn said as you packed up after the event.
The local children’s hospital had sent some kids to skate with Canucks players, including their captain, who was lingering behind.
“And what’s that?” you asked, glancing up over the box you were carrying.
“You don’t know how to skate,” he said, smirking.
“I do not,” you admitted with a smile.
“How?” he asked, bewildered. “You literally work for a hockey team.”
Shrugging, you passed him the box. “My job doesn’t require me to be on the ice.”
“But still,” he persisted, following you to the storage closet. “Let me teach you.”
“Don’t you have somewhere to be?” you asked, placing a hand on your hip.
“Not for another hour,” he replied, grinning wide. “Now let’s find you some skates, princess.” Before you could protest, he was already running off. Sighing, you followed, wondering what you’d gotten yourself into.
Quinn was the most requested player for community events, so you spent a lot of time with him. At first, he was quiet and reserved, but over time, your friendship grew, making your job easier and more fun.
After discovering you weren’t a hockey fan growing up, he took it upon himself to teach you the basics. Today’s lesson, however, would take place on the ice.
Sitting on a bench, you watched as Quinn tied your skates. His fingers moved deftly, and he glanced up at you with a reassuring smile.
“Don’t be nervous,” he said softly. “I’ll be with you the whole time.”
You clung to the wall as he led you onto the rink, showing you the basics before holding out his hands. Taking them hesitantly, you shuffled off the wall, Quinn skating backward to guide you.
“That’s it!” he encouraged. “Isn’t it fun?”
“Not really,” you replied, earning a loud laugh from him.
As you completed a lap, you began to wobble. Quinn tightened his grip, pulling you into his chest as you stumbled. His arm wrapped securely around your waist, steadying you.
“Easy,” he murmured, his face inches from yours. Your cheeks flushed at the proximity, and neither of you moved.
“I think you can let go of me now,” you teased, breaking the tension. Quinn stepped back, his cheeks reddening as he guided you off the ice.
Later that afternoon, your mind wandered to the interaction. Quinn was undeniably attractive—and kind—but he was also your coworker, the captain of the team. You weren’t sure if you were allowed to feel this way about him, but he wasn’t making it easy to resist.
Making yourself dinner, you picked up your phone to Facetime your sister.
“Hey y/n,” she greeted as her face popped up on the screen.
“Hey J,” you replied, propping the phone up. “Ready for this weekend?
She was visiting Vancouver to visit you and catch a game as your guest. You were excited, as you hadn’t seen her since over the summer and were very much in need of a girl's weekend.
“So ready, I also expect you to take me bar hopping after the game on Saturday,” she said and you giggled.
“Dangerous,” you replied, remembering the very rough nights the two of you had shared while going out.
“I have to go, but I’ll see you when I land tomorrow,” she said before hanging up. This was going to be a long weekend.
—--------------------------------------------------------
“That was amazing,” Jaelen said after the final buzzer went off. The Canucks had won easily and you were happy just to be a fan for this game rather than an employee. “I want to be a WAG so bad.”
You laughed at your sister, knowing this was nothing new. The first thing she said when you told her you got the job a couple of years ago was ask when she could meet some of the players.
“Do you know where they go out after the game?” she asked, and you sighed, trying to look away. “Omg, you do!”
Because of Quinn’s insistence that you eventually join him to celebrate one of these days, you knew the usual hangout was a small bar a couple of blocks away. You lived close to the arena, so you decided to stop by your apartment first and change into a pair of black jeans and a tight white top. You made a couple of martinis to pregame and eventually made your way to the bar.
A lot of the hockey team was already there when you both arrived, and you spotted Quinn standing by the bar chatting with someone you thought might be one of his brothers. Jaelen was already dragging you to the bar, and you avoided his gaze as you stood up to order.
“Put her drink on my tab,” you heard him say as he approached you. You looked over at him with a small smile on your face and met his eyes, sparkling with amusement.
“Finally made it, and I didn’t even text you this time,” he teased.
“My sister wanted to come out,” you defended.
“Lot of bars in Vancouver, princess,” he smirked and you rolled your eyes.
“Yeah yeah, she wants to bag one of your teammates,” you admitted. Quinn stepped closer to you, bringing his mouth to your ear.
“I like how you didn’t include me as one of the options there,” he whispered, and you were instantly flustered, not even realizing what you had said.
“Shut up,” you mumbled before sipping your drink. His smirk widened at your discomfort.
“Hi, I’m Jack,” the guy he had been with earlier interrupted, holding his hand out. Quinn shot him a look of annoyance, but Jack’s smile didn’t falter.
“Y/n,” you replied, shaking his hand.
“I’ve heard a lot about you,” he said, making Quinn blush and you smiled. “And I can see why.”
Jack shamelessly checked you out and you tilted your head, amused at the brother.
“Aren’t you a charmer?” You replied, locking eyes once again.
“Only for you, sweetheart,” he flirted, and you felt a slight blush cross your features. Quinn was frowning now as he glared at Jack, who shot him a wink. You chatted a little longer with the boys, well mostly Jack, as Quinn had grown quieter as the night went on. Jack finally left to go to the bathroom and you turned to him.
“You okay?” You asked and he looked down at you, clearly contemplating saying something.
“I don’t like him flirting with you,” he admitted and you looked at him confused.
“He’s just being nice,” you countered and he gave you a look.
“I know my brother.”
“I’m not going to hook up with him Quinn,” you said amused, grabbing your purse. “There’s only one Hughes brother I’m interested in and it’s not him. I’ll see you later.”
His eyes widened as he processed your words and he watched you walk away.
—------------------------------------------------------------
A couple of weeks had passed since then, and Quinn had definitely been more flirty with you but hadn’t made a move. You were starting to get worried that you had said too much that night at the bar; it was exactly why you avoided drinking around him in the first place.
It was the week before Thanksgiving and you were going to your good friend Rachel’s house for a Friendsgiving party. She had done it each year for the past three and it always meant a good meal and then sitting around a bonfire, drinking and talking. You had been looking forward to it all month; it was a good chance to get away from work and just relax. It didn’t seem like work would be getting away from you, though, as you looked over to see Quinn stepping out of an Uber at the same time you pulled up.
“What’s up princess?” He asked with a grin, taking the potato dish you brought out of your hands.
“What are you doing here?” You asked befuddled.
“I’m friends with Rachel’s new boyfriend,” he said and you nodded. Rachel had started dating this guy she had met at work a couple of months ago. You had yet to meet him but had heard good things. “You’re friends with Rachel, right?”
“Yeah,” you told him as you walked in the house.
“Y/n!” Rachel called as you made it into the kitchen. She was wearing a cute little apron over her sweater and jeans and you hugged her in greeting. “Meet Paul!”
Her boyfriend gave you a kind smile, shaking your hand before turning to pull Quinn into a hug.
“What’s up huggy?” Paul said and you watched amused as the two boys caught up.
“I totally forgot to tell you that Quinn was coming. You guys see each other a lot at work, right? " she asked, and you nodded. “He’s cute.”
“Rachel,” you warned and she smirked.
“Just saying.”
You helped her with the final touches as everyone else arrived, Quinn staying in the kitchen with you guys, nursing a beer.
“Okay, everyone, grab a plate and food, and let's eat!” Rachel called, and you joined her in line. You filled your plate and moved to the dining room, ignoring the butterflies in your stomach as Quinn took the spot next to you.
“So how long have you two been together?” One of Rachel’s friends asked you and Quinn. Other conversations flowed in the background as you looked at Quinn quickly before answering.
“We aren’t together, just coworkers,” you said and she nodded.
“Just coworkers, not even friends?” Quinn said, pouting and you rolled your eyes.
“Friends,” you confirmed and Rachel gave you a wink from where she was sitting.
“I didn’t know you worked for the Canucks,” the girl continued and you nodded, taking a sip of your wine.
“Yeah, have been for a couple of years now,” you told her.
“That’s so lucky. I’d love to work around a bunch of hot athletes,” she said, and you choked a little on your drink, causing Quinn to grin.
“Yeah, she is lucky,” he teased, and you shot him the finger. The rest of dinner went smoothly. You had a couple more glasses of wine before slowly following the group outside as Paul got the fire going. It was chilly, and you regretted already not having brought your heavier coat.
Quinn was already sitting back in one of the outdoor chairs, watching you as you got closer.
“Cold princess?” He asked as you got closer and you crossed your arms shaking your head.
“I’m fine,” you said but shivered involuntarily, causing him to give you a teasing smile.
“Come sit in my lap,” he said and you gave him a death glare.
“I’m not sitting in your lap,” you said and he smirked looking around.
“Where else are you going to sit?”
Sure enough, Rachel had invited more people than usual, and there were actually no seats open. You held your head high, determined not to show him his effect on you, and you moved closer to him. His eyes widened as you sat down on his lap, and he set down his beer next to him so that he could adjust you into him.
Rachel was grinning widely at you from the next chair over and you ignored it, just jumping in to ask her about work. You chatted with Rachel for a while, enjoying the warmth Quinn provided with his arms wrapped around you. She got pulled into another conversation and you turned your attention to Quinn.
“You’re being quiet,” you said and he gave you a small smile.
“I’m enjoying the peacefulness,” he said and you smiled. “Still cold?”
“A little,” you replied and he shifted so you could lean into his chest. His head rested on top of yours. “Better.”
“Good,” he hummed. You watched the fire for a little bit before shifting again to get comfortable.
“Stop moving,” Quinn rasped and you moved again to look up at him, earning a small groan. You were about to ask what was wrong but you felt it. He gave you a pointed look as you smirked, feeling him hard underneath you.
“What’s wrong Huggy?” You teased as he squeezed his eyes shut.
“Don’t be a tease,” he grunted.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” you whispered. Looking around to see everyone engrossed in their own conversations, you smirked before resting your head on his shoulder for a second, bringing your lips to his neck, and nipping at the skin.
Quinn lifted you off his lap, standing up with his hand holding onto yours tightly.
“I think we’re going to head out,” he told Rachel and Paul. Rachel looked at you knowingly and stood up to hug you goodbye. You said goodbye to some other friends before following Quinn through the house and back out towards your car.
The car was filled with a charged silence as you and Quinn sat next to each other, both knowing what was about to happen.
You broke the stillness by casually asking, "Your place or mine?" Quinn's eyes flickered down to your lips, and without a word, he leaned over the console and grabbed the side of your head, pulling you closer to him. His lips met yours in a fiery kiss, his breath mingling with yours as he punished you for your teasing at the bonfire earlier. Your body responded eagerly, melting into his touch as you whimpered into the kiss. A small smirk tugged at Quinn's lips before he pulled back, leaving you breathless and wanting more.
“Your place as long as this isn’t a one-time thing,” he said and your eyes widened as you caught your breath.
“What do you mean?” You asked.
“I don’t do one-night stands,” he said simply and you tried to understand his words.
“So you want to hook up more than once,” you said, and he chuckled, looking at you in amusement.
"Forget just hooking up, princess. I want to take you out on real dates. I want to be by your side constantly. I need to see you outside of work, in every moment possible," he declared, his words igniting a fiery passion in your heart.
“But it’s really not allowed,” you said, shoulders sagging.
“There is no rule against it,” he countered and you sat back thoughtfully.
“Fine,” you agreed and he smiled. “I didn’t know you felt this way.”
“I’d be insane not to like you,” he said and you pressed your lips to his again, softer this time.
You were nervous as you made the drive to your apartment. Quinn was quiet in the seat next to you, but his hand on your thigh assured you that he wanted this. He followed you out of the garage and up to your apartment, taking in the cozy space that was so you.
After throwing your keys on the counter and taking your jacket off you stood facing him wanting him to make the next move. He eyed you slowly before coming towards you, raising his hand to hold the side of your head.
“Are you sure?” He whispered and you hummed in agreement. That was all it took and his lips were on yours, his other hand pulling your hips into him. His lips moved harshly against yours, nipping at your bottom lip, causing you to gasp.
Hands finding your ass, he lifted you up, letting you wrap your legs around him as he carried you to your bedroom. He laid you down gently, without breaking the kiss, hovering over your body.
Quinn's hands roamed your body as he deepened the kiss, his tongue tangling with yours. You arched into him, craving more contact. He broke away to trail kisses down your neck, sucking gently at your pulse point.
"Quinn," you breathed, running your fingers through his hair.
He lifted his head to look at you, his eyes dark with desire. "God, you're beautiful," he murmured.
You blushed at his words, pulling him back down to capture his lips again. Your hands slid under his shirt, feeling the hard planes of his abs. Quinn groaned into your mouth, grinding his hips against yours.
Sitting up slightly, he tugged off his shirt before helping you remove yours. His eyes roamed your newly exposed skin hungrily.
"Are you sure about this?" he asked again, his voice husky.
You nodded, pulling him back down to you. "I'm sure," you whispered against his lips.
Quinn's hands skimmed down your sides, leaving goosebumps in their wake. He unclasped your bra, tossing it aside before cupping your breasts. You gasped as his thumbs brushed over your nipples.
"You're so responsive," he murmured, trailing kisses down your neck to your chest.
His mouth replaced his hands, tongue swirling around one nipple as his fingers teased the other. You arched into him, hands fisting in his hair as pleasure coursed through you.
Quinn continued his path downward, pressing open-mouthed kisses along your stomach. He looked up at you as he unbuttoned your jeans, silently asking permission. You lifted your hips, allowing him to slide them off along with your thong.
Quinn's eyes roamed over your now fully nude form, a look of awe on his face. "You're incredible," he breathed.
He kissed his way up your inner thigh, his stubble creating delicious friction against your sensitive skin. When he reached your center, he placed a gentle kiss there before slowly running his tongue along your folds.
You gasped, hips bucking involuntarily. Quinn gripped your thighs, holding you in place as he continued his attention. His tongue circled your clit before sucking it into his mouth, causing you to cry out in pleasure.
"Quinn, please," you whimpered, not even sure what you were begging for.
He slid a finger inside you, curling it to hit that spot that made you see stars. Adding a second finger, he pumped them in and out in tandem with the movements of his tongue.
“Fuck Quinn I’m gonna cum,” you whined out and he increased his pace. Your hands were gripping the sheets on either side of you and you struggled in his hold as your orgasm washed over you. He cleaned you up before coming back up to kiss your lips.
Quinn kissed you deeply, letting you taste yourself on his tongue. You could feel his hardness pressing against your thigh through his jeans. Reaching down, you palmed him through the fabric, causing him to groan into your mouth.
"These need to come off," you murmured, tugging at his waistband.
Quinn quickly shed his remaining clothes, kicking them off the bed. Your eyes roamed his now naked form appreciatively. He was all lean muscle, his body honed from years of hockey.
"Like what you see?" he asked with a smirk.
"Very much," you replied, pulling him back down to you.
You wrapped your legs around his waist, feeling his length slide against your wet folds. Quinn reached between your bodies, lining himself up at your entrance. He paused, looking into your eyes.
"Are you sure?" he asked one final time and you nodded, gasping as he pushed into you. “Fuck princess, you’re so tight.”
Quinn stilled for a moment, letting you adjust to his size. You rolled your hips, signaling him to move. He started with slow, deep thrusts, gradually building up speed.
"God, you feel amazing," he groaned, burying his face in your neck.
Quinn quickened his pace, his hips slamming into yours. You could feel your climax building, the pressure coiling in your belly.
Suddenly, Quinn changed positions, pulling you on top of him and sitting up against the headboard. He held onto your hips as you rode him, setting a pace that had both of you panting.
You leaned back, hands on his thighs for support as you tilted your hips to hit that spot inside you again and again. Quinn's fingers dug into your skin as he watched you pleasure yourself on him.
"You look so fucking beautiful like this," he groaned, and it pushed you over the edge.
You cried out his name as your orgasm washed over you once again, Quinn following soon after with a loud groan.
You lay there, panting and tangled in each other’s arms. Quinn pressed kisses along your neck and jaw, before pulling out of you.
"That was incredible," he said, flopping down beside you.
"Mhmm," you agreed, snuggling into his side.
“I was being serious about what I said earlier,” he said and you looked up to him. “I want all of you.”
“Then you can have me,” you said leaning up to kiss him.

A bill currently [November 2023] before the British Columbia legislature seeks to define “reasonably available” alternative shelter when municipalities go to court to enforce bylaws against homeless encampments. If passed, Bill 45 will undermine the Charter rights of some of the most vulnerable members of Canadian society.
The bill is short and cryptic. It says that, if a local government goes to court for an injunction to enforce its bylaws against someone sheltering in a homeless encampment, alternative shelter is “reasonably available” [...]. Beyond leaving key terms like “homeless,” “encampment” and “near” undefined, the bill simply asserts that shelter spaces are reasonable options if they meet this bare-bones description, regardless of whether they are actually accessible to tent city residents. This would overturn a series of court decisions that insist shelter must be practically accessible to the individuals the government wants to evict from encampments.
---
In Greater Vancouver alone, more than 4,800 people are homeless, sleeping in shelters, cars or outdoors. That is up a staggering 32 per cent since 2020.
Encampments are a visible sign of this crisis. Yet, despite an overwhelming lack of affordable housing, governments have taken a largely punitive approach to them.
Courts have established that prohibiting unhoused people who lack adequate alternatives from sheltering overnight on public land violates their constitutional right to life and security of the person. Yet Canadian municipalities have gone to court repeatedly seeking injunctions to evict encampments from public land.
In new research, we show that courts have been remarkably eager to grant municipalities injunctions even though they are supposed to be drastic remedies for extraordinary situations. [...]
But instead of taking a human rights approach to homelessness, the B.C. government’s new bill makes it even easier to evict already vulnerable people.
---
The bill’s definition of “reasonably available” alternative shelter might seem to give encampment residents some protection against arbitrary eviction. But it actually weakens existing legal protections by ignoring the barriers that make many shelters inaccessible, the distinct situation of Indigenous people and the need for shelter and storage during the day.
Violence, theft, mold, vermin and lack of privacy make some shelter options inaccessible to many unhoused people. Inaccessibility is particularly stark for women and gender diverse people. Strict limits on how many belongings people can bring into shelters also present an impossible choice between sleeping indoors and safeguarding belongings. Bans on pets and couples are barriers for some. Curfews and abstinence rules limit accessibility for people dealing with substance use and addiction. Many unhoused people, including those with mental health challenges, are ejected under “one strike you’re out” policies. Limits on shelter stays are another barrier. On top of it all, housing waitlist processes are confusing and frustrating.
These barriers are well known to everyone concerned with homelessness, including the B.C. government. Courts say they must be considered when deciding whether to issue injunctions against encampments. By ignoring them, the bill perpetuates a false stereotype of unhoused people as “choosy beggars” who deliberately refuse adequate shelter. [...]
---
Finally, the claim that having somewhere to spend the night meets a person’s basic needs for shelter is simply untrue.
Having somewhere to shelter and store belongings during the day is a basic need that courts have recognized for years, and have begun to acknowledge as a constitutional right.
To deny unhoused people the ability to shelter throughout the day is to condemn them, in one judge’s words, to “constant disruption and a perpetuation of a relentless series of daily moves to the streets, doorways, and parks” of Canadian cities.
As our research confirms, packing up their homes, carrying all their belongings around all day — including tents, sleeping bags, clothing, toiletries and medicine — and lining up for somewhere to sleep every night is a hardship for all unhoused people and impossible for many. [...]
Bill 45 is aimed at excluding poor people from public spaces. Instead of addressing the province’s lack of housing and income inequality, the B.C. government is making it easier for municipalities to police poor and unhoused people. This bill attempts to roll back existing Charter protections and limit courts’ discretion regarding injunctions against encampments. It will be deeply harmful to unhoused people if enacted.

Stunning Vancouver Kitchen Renovation for Modern Homes
The kitchen is often the heart of a home – a space where families gather, meals are prepared, and memories are made. Whether you’re an avid cook or simply want a more stylish and functional space, a kitchen renovation can breathe new life into your home. If you're considering transforming your kitchen, Vancouver offers a wealth of design possibilities that can help you create the kitchen of your dreams.
In this blog, we’ll explore the benefits of Vancouver kitchen renovations, discuss popular remodeling ideas, and provide useful tips to ensure your kitchen renovation journey is a success. Let’s dive into how a professional Vancouver kitchen remodeling project can transform your space into a modern, functional, and beautiful kitchen.
Why Choose Vancouver Kitchen Renovation?
1. Increase Home Value
One of the most significant advantages of investing in kitchen renovations in Vancouver is the potential to increase your home’s value. A well-designed, modern kitchen can greatly enhance the appeal of your property. Whether you're looking to sell or simply improve your living space, a renovated kitchen can be a major selling point. Buyers are often willing to pay a premium for a beautifully updated kitchen, making it a smart investment for the future.
2. Improve Functionality
Kitchens are highly functional spaces, and over time, certain layouts or features may no longer serve your needs. A kitchen renovation allows you to optimize the layout, increase storage, and improve workflow. For instance, moving your stove, sink, and fridge closer together (the kitchen work triangle) can make meal prep more efficient. With the right kitchen renovations in Vancouver, you can create a space that’s not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional and tailored to your lifestyle.
3. Personalize Your Space
Vancouver kitchen remodeling offers a unique opportunity to personalize your kitchen design. Whether you prefer a sleek modern style, a rustic farmhouse aesthetic, or a classic traditional look, a kitchen renovation allows you to choose materials, colors, and finishes that align with your tastes. From custom cabinetry and countertops to the latest appliances and lighting, every detail can be tailored to your preferences.
Key Features to Consider in Vancouver Kitchen Remodeling
1. Custom Cabinetry
Cabinets are one of the most important elements in any kitchen renovation. Custom cabinetry offers both style and functionality, providing tailored storage solutions for your specific needs. Whether you want extra deep drawers for pots and pans, pull-out shelves for easy access, or a space for everything from spices to small appliances, custom cabinets can make your kitchen more organized and efficient. Choosing high-quality materials for your cabinets ensures longevity and aesthetic appeal.
2. Modern Appliances
Vancouver kitchen renovations are the perfect time to upgrade your appliances. New, energy-efficient appliances can not only improve the overall functionality of your kitchen but also reduce your energy consumption. From smart refrigerators and touchless faucets to induction stoves and convection ovens, the latest appliances offer advanced features that make cooking easier and more enjoyable. When selecting appliances, consider both practicality and design to ensure they complement your overall kitchen look.
3. Stylish Countertops
Your countertops serve as both a functional workspace and a visual focal point in your kitchen. When renovating your kitchen in Vancouver, choosing the right material is key to creating a stylish, durable, and easy-to-maintain surface. Popular options include quartz, granite, marble, and butcher block. Each material has its own unique benefits, from the luxurious appearance of marble to the practical, low-maintenance qualities of quartz. Consider durability, maintenance, and aesthetic appeal when selecting the perfect countertop for your kitchen.
4. Lighting and Fixtures
Lighting plays a crucial role in the ambiance and functionality of your kitchen. A well-lit kitchen enhances visibility and ensures safety while preparing meals. During your Vancouver kitchen renovation, think about incorporating task lighting for food prep areas, ambient lighting to create a cozy atmosphere, and accent lighting to highlight design features. Pendant lights over an island or a statement chandelier can also serve as beautiful focal points. Additionally, don’t overlook the importance of high-quality fixtures, including faucets, drawer pulls, and cabinet handles, which add to the overall design.
5. Open Shelving and Storage Solutions
Maximizing storage is a top priority in any kitchen renovation. Open shelving has become a popular design trend, offering both an aesthetic appeal and easy access to frequently used items. However, it’s important to strike a balance between open shelving and enclosed cabinetry to avoid a cluttered appearance. Incorporating pull-out pantries, lazy Susans, and drawer organizers can further optimize storage and help keep your kitchen tidy and organized.
Tips for a Successful Vancouver Kitchen Renovation
1. Plan Ahead
The key to a successful kitchen renovation is thorough planning. Before you begin any work, take the time to define your goals and establish a budget. Consider the layout, style, and materials you want to incorporate. Think about the long-term functionality of the space and how your family will use it. It’s also helpful to make a list of “must-have” features, as well as any design inspirations you have in mind. The more organized your planning, the smoother the renovation process will be.
2. Hire a Professional Vancouver Kitchen Remodeling Contractor
While DIY kitchen renovations are tempting, a professional Vancouver kitchen remodeling contractor can ensure the job is done right. A skilled contractor will handle the project from start to finish, ensuring that all work meets local building codes and regulations. They can also offer valuable design advice, recommend high-quality materials, and manage the project timeline. Hiring an expert allows you to focus on enjoying the design process while they take care of the logistics.
3. Keep an Eye on Trends, but Stay True to Your Style
While it’s helpful to keep an eye on current kitchen design trends, it’s important not to lose sight of your personal style and needs. Trends such as minimalist designs, eco-friendly materials, and smart technology are great, but the most important thing is that your kitchen reflects your taste and serves your functional needs. Opt for timeless design elements that you’ll love for years, rather than chasing fleeting trends.
4. Budget Wisely
Kitchen renovations in Vancouver can vary widely in price depending on the scope of the project, materials used, and the size of your kitchen. Be realistic about your budget and make sure to set aside a contingency fund for unexpected costs. Prioritize spending on high-impact areas like countertops, cabinetry, and appliances, while balancing other aspects to ensure your renovation stays within budget.
5. Consider Sustainability
As the demand for sustainable homes increases, many Vancouver homeowners are opting for eco-friendly kitchen renovations. From energy-efficient appliances to sustainable materials like bamboo cabinetry and recycled glass countertops, there are numerous ways to reduce your kitchen’s environmental impact. Incorporating green features not only helps the environment but can also save you money on energy bills in the long run.
Final Thoughts
A Vancouver kitchen renovation offers countless opportunities to transform your space into a modern, functional, and stylish hub of your home. By choosing the right elements—custom cabinetry, energy-efficient appliances, stylish countertops, and innovative lighting—you can create a kitchen that reflects your personal style and meets your needs. With professional Vancouver kitchen remodeling services, the possibilities are endless.
Remember to plan ahead, hire a trusted contractor, and focus on features that align with your lifestyle. Whether you’re planning a major overhaul or a simple update, a kitchen renovation is an investment in your home’s future, comfort, and value. Why Choose Custom Packaging in Vancouver?
Custom packaging is a smart choice for businesses looking to stand out. Whether you're running an e-commerce store, launching a new product, or simply need unique packaging for a personal project, custom packaging helps ensure that your items are delivered in style while offering optimal protection.
Benefits of Custom Packaging Vancouver

Enhanced Protection: Custom packaging can be designed with specific materials and dimensions that suit the unique shape and fragility of your products. This ensures that your items are well-protected during transportation, reducing the risk of damage.
Eco-Friendly Options: Many businesses today opt for sustainable packaging solutions. Custom packaging allows you to choose eco-friendly materials that minimize environmental impact while still providing the durability and protection needed for shipping.
Unforgettable Unboxing Experience: Customers love a well-designed unboxing experience. Custom packaging adds a personal touch, enhancing the customer experience and building excitement around your product. It’s a small detail that can leave a big impression.
Cost-Efficiency: By selecting packaging that fits your products perfectly, you avoid wasting materials and money on oversized or mismatched boxes. Custom packaging allows for more precise sizing, which can lead to more cost-effective shipping.
Vancouver File Boxes: Organizing Your Documents with Ease
For businesses and individuals alike, organizing important documents is crucial. Vancouver File Boxes are the perfect solution for storing and safeguarding paperwork, files, and records in a systematic way. These boxes help keep your space neat and your documents easily accessible, whether you’re in an office setting or simply need to store personal papers at home.
Benefits of Vancouver File Boxes
Space-Saving and Neat: File boxes help reduce clutter in your home or office. Instead of piles of paper scattered across desks or drawers, file boxes offer a dedicated place to store documents, freeing up valuable space and keeping things organized.
Protection for Important Papers: Vancouver file boxes are designed to protect your important documents from dust, dirt, and physical damage. Many are made of sturdy, acid-free materials, which help prevent aging or deterioration of sensitive documents like legal papers, contracts, and certificates.
Easy to Label and Organize: Most Vancouver File Boxes come with labeling systems that allow you to categorize and organize your documents efficiently. Whether you’re using a filing cabinet or shelving unit, labeled boxes make it easy to find and retrieve important files when needed.
Portable and Convenient: File boxes are often designed with handles, making them easy to transport. Whether you’re moving offices, storing records for the long term, or simply keeping things organized at home, Vancouver file boxes allow for easy access and mobility.
Durable and Reliable: Vancouver file boxes are made from durable materials like corrugated cardboard or plastic, ensuring that your files are kept secure and intact. The sturdy construction ensures that even if you stack boxes, your files will remain safe and accessible.

The Addiction Lingers Like a Painful Reminder
June 17, 2024
Happy 17th day of Pride, everyone. Today, I am writing about how Dean’s addiction continued to affect me and how it almost destroyed me.
I wrote yesterday that I had to get my lawyer to move things along. Since Dean was on title, it made it more complicated to get resolution. This meant that finding an end would take more than a year. During that time, my life became a nightmare.
Dean quickly kept the outside access doors barred. He also nailed boards against the door that I used to use to go downstairs. I had to basically have his permission to access my washer and dryer or any of my storage items. I’m not sure what Dean did, but my washer refused to work. It was broken. With resignation, I bought a new pair of washer and dryer. I had to make sure that I had access to have them installed, which happened, but I couldn’t use them often enough.
My evenings after work consisted of watching the stream of men coming and going from the basement. He also now had a “boyfriend” who was staying with him in the basement. This guy was nasty to me. There was no way I could convince Dean to leave - even though I told him that he hadn’t paid anything for almost a year. He and his boyfriend would sit there stoned and sneered at me until I broke down in tears or left in desperation.
One day, I went to the workshop side of the basement and knocked. Dean wasn’t there or in the other side so I tried the door and found it unlocked. When I walked in, I was dumbstruck. There was trash everywhere and needles strewn all over. There were tin foil spoons with burned crystal all over the place. There was a sleeping bag in the closet with some stranger’s clothes. The sling was hung where he had installed it as well. As I approached the sling area, I noticed that Dean had used a knife to tear open a heating vent to let heat in as there was no heat on that side. The workshop reeked of drugs, body odour and shit. There were also the beginnings of a crystal meth making kit. I took pictures of everything and left. That was the last time that I had access to the basement. I would never know what was going on down there.
Yes, I called the police and told them about the crystal meth lab, but no one cared. No policeman ever came to my door. I would sit up at nights worried that the house would blow up, killing me and my pets, along with Dean and who ever was down there. Men still came to my door so much that I stopped answering the door. There were even times when Dean would not leave the house. We used texting to communicate and the sound that my phone made when a text from Dean came in, made me literally sick to my stomach to hear. I had to change the sound for my own sanity. There were several times when there was not a sound in the basement for days one end, but I knew that Dean was there. Sometimes he wouldn’t answer my texts. I could hear the text coming in on his phone through the floor but no answer. At least three times in that year, I thought that Dean had died of an overdose in my basement. Just when I was about to break down the door, he would be there to confront me. The last time he mumbled about needing money so he could go to the Downtown East Side of Vancouver to get some heroin. It seemed he was now addicted to that as well. His friend who got him addicted disappeared so I never found out what happened to him. He most likely died of his cancer.
The day came when we had a Discovery Meeting between my lawyer and I on one side of the table and Dean and his lawyer on the other side. The judge sat at the end of the table. My lawyer presented my offer and a request that the house be put in my name. His counter offer was spousal support as we were common in law before the break up. He also wanted future profits to come in if I sold the house. The judge told Dean that he should take my offer and that the future profits were not valid. In the end I had to take a large chunk of my RRSP’s (retirement savings for my American friends) to pay off Dean. I then had to budget for spousal payments for the next year. I was in a real financial bind. Vancouver, even back in 2007-2008, was extremely expensive.
For me, the house was all that I had left. With the agreement signed and a date to move out, the whole process began, but it was even more hellish for me. With the house being signed over to me, the bank had to renegotiate the mortgage with me. The application came through and I had to wait for the bank’s agreement. One evening, my bank manager called and said that they couldn’t give me a mortgage on my own based on my teacher’s wages. I climbed into bed and cried myself to sleep.
The next morning, I dragged myself to school. Instead of going into my classroom, I went to the counsellor’s room and he was there. He welcomed me in as it was customary to hang out in his room. I sat down on the couch and stared straight ahead. I’ll call him “Harry” and he asked me what was wrong. I remember staring straight ahead and saying that I was leaving and not coming back. Harry asked me several times and I said the same thing. I broke down and sobbed for a long time. The bell rang, so Harry called the Vice Principal to cover my class until I was ready. Harry finally clued in to what I was saying about not coming back. I wasn’t going to come back to school because I wasn’t going to continue living. Harry was a professional and handled the situation well. He called up the Principal and explained what was going on as I continued to cry uncontrollably. She came to the room and said that she would call a substitute in to cover my class. Harry went down to my class with me to pick up my things. The students were quietly reading for the Vice Principal. I couldn’t even say goodbye to them. I just looked at the floor after picking up my belongings and headed back to the counsellor’s room.
Harry told me that he had called an ambulance and that they would come and take me to an emergency clinic. Twenty minutes later, the ambulance arrived at the front of the school and Harry led me out to the waiting attendants who put me in the back of the ambulance. I remember little of the ride, other than they seemed to be going all over the place. I don’t even know how long it took to get to the clinic where I was to see a doctor.
Inside, I met with a doctor and he asked me if I wanted to take my life. I said yes because I had no reason to live. My mind was a foggy mess and what little I remember seeing was through bloodshot eyes that constantly became blurry from the tears that wouldn’t stop. The doctor told me that the ambulance would take me to the hospital for processing. I asked him what would happen if I refused. He said that I could refuse, but the police would come for me. Harry was there with me and he convinced me to get into the ambulance - without even knowing who was going to take care of my pets - Dean couldn’t even if he wanted to.
I’m going to stop there as I realize that there is still so much to tell. I will continue the story tomorrow. For Pride, I am celebrating life itself. If you’ve ever considered taking your own life, then you must know how desperate and lost I was. If you know someone who might take their life, listen to them and take it seriously. It could save their life.
Carpe diem, everyone. Appreciate your life, please.

With numerous options available, it's essential to understand what to look for and how to make the best choice. In this guide, we'll provide valuable insights and tips to help you navigate the process effectively.
Understanding Your Needs
Before beginning your search for a moving company, take some time to assess your requirements. Consider factors such as the size of your move, any special items needing delicate handling, and your budget constraints. Understanding your needs will help you narrow down your options and find a company that aligns with your specific requirements.
Researching Potential Companies
Once you have a clear understanding of your needs, start researching moving companies in North Vancouver. Explore their websites, read reviews, and ask for recommendations from friends or family who have recently moved. Pay attention to their experience, reputation, and the range of services they offer.
Checking Credentials and Insurance
When evaluating potential moving companies, ensure they are properly licensed and insured. This protects you in case of any accidents or damages during the move. Additionally, inquire about their experience in handling moves similar to yours and any specialized services they offer, such as packing or storage solutions.
Obtaining Estimates
Before making a decision, obtain estimates from multiple moving companies. Compare prices and services offered, but be cautious of unusually low estimates, as they may indicate subpar service or hidden fees. Request detailed breakdowns of costs to ensure transparency.
Conducting Interviews
Once you've narrowed down your options, schedule interviews with the top candidates. Ask about their process, equipment, and contingency plans for unexpected situations. Communication is key, so ensure you feel comfortable discussing your needs and concerns with the company.
Finalizing Your Decision
After thorough research and consideration, it's time to make your decision. Review the contract carefully, ensuring all terms are clearly outlined and understood. Communicate any last-minute details or special requirements with the chosen company to ensure a smooth transition on moving day.

Moving home, and my friends' almost-successful attempt at making me stay
A box and three suitcases half-full of my belongings sit around, scattered in my apartment. The rest are still in the drawers of my dresser, on my desk, and in the laundry basket. The packed clothes are barely folded, and the books in the box are stacked like a bad game of Tetris. My cat, Shrimp, hates going into his carrier, despite the amount of treats I leave, the shiny toys that wait around, and how many droplets of catnip spray linger in there. My beloved subletter of three months made me pay for the first week of December, so I kept the heating up to the max in my room, even if I was out of the apartment for extended periods of time. I fly back home tomorrow.
Every time I fly back to Quebec from my hometown, Vancouver, it only ever really takes between less than a day or two to adjust back to the brittled concrete, the charming garbage day air, and the Bixis in my blind spots. September of this year was different. After a long West Coast summer of six weeks, I felt a leftwards tug that I tried to ignore. It lingered weeks after I landed and settled into my new apartment. I tried to journal, walk, exercise, and meditate the yearning away, but in turn these activities lead me to a plane ticket home—so here we are.
The other night, my friends threw a pyjama-karaoke-themed farewell party for me. I took care of the invites, and they took care of the rest. I knew I wanted to see all my friends before I left, and I could have easily planned something for myself. But between work, packing, and attempting to force Shrimp to get used to being lugged around in a container with wheels, I needed help–and as a Leo with crippling pride, it was nice to not have to admit it in the moment when they offered to plan it for me, and I am so grateful to them.
Around my friend Alex’s apartment, there were photos of me dispersed around her walls. In no particular order: there was one from when I went apple picking with my boyfriend, Will; Will and I posing next to the Barbie movie poster after seeing it in theatres when it came out this July; another of me behind the counter from when I was working as a barista at the hip Italian joint in Griffintown; me and my roommate’s cat, Pesto, who is shaped like an upside-down light bulb; a few of me in my friend Adela’s backyard—one of me, Maxine, and Alex celebrating her M&M-themed birthday as brown M&Ms, one during her Lunar New Year hot pot, and one of me reading; one of me drinking coffee in her kitchen; me, Derelyn and Alex at this year’s pie-themed Thanksgiving; Jiestine and me eating the menu’s special (fried pork, egg, veggies, and rice) at our favourite Chinese restaurant; me on Valentine’s day (my favourite holiday) offering flowers and Cheetos to Alex, Jiestine and Adela; me sitting next to the garbage can with my arms shaped like a “V” for victory, with a smile of relief after successfully moving all my things in a storage unit.
Between these walls, we gathered around the table of candy salad bowls, Cheetos, shrimp crackers, bread, cheese, and seltzers to talk about the highs and lows of our respective seasons. I introduced new friends to old ones. We shared our Spotify Wrapped playlists, and we danced and sang the night away. Towards the end of the night it felt more and more like a campaign to get me to stay, especially when Adela sang “Take Me Home, Country Roads” while my friends surprised me with a cake decorated with gingerbread cookies and a figurine of a little boy with a mushroom bowl-cut. It almost worked.
I have my doubts about moving back, and my friends are the biggest reasons why I stuck around on this island. I can only do what feels right to me, but only time will unravel and reveal as to whether or not this homecoming is what’s best. As a victim of the late adolescent/early adulthood Vancouver to Montreal pipeline and meme to “fill the void”, I am grateful that I fell into the trap. At my goodbye party, the friendships, the music, the food, the soul put into the planning of my send-off, and the memories on the walls of Alex’s apartment stitched the gap so perfectly. I’ll hold this city so tightly to my chest, and I’ll keep it in the inside pocket of my down coat, because of who I found here.
À bientôt, mes ami.e.s. <3
