Christy, Can I just appreciate my favorite and problematic marvel character in peace? I know Tony is an asshole but I still love and relate to him. Even though that was hilarious but still.
I don’t get you Tony Stark fans… You don’t like anyone talking badly about him when that’s the best part of fandom on social media.
Cyclops was right and his fans put him on blast constantly.

What if disabled people are really unrealized superheroes?
Somewhere I have a college textbook solely written about why nearly all superheroes are disabled but are never identified as disabled, the catch is that their origin stories are about them “overcoming” their disability, even if most times just part of it or they exchange it for another.
Steve Rogers had multiple disabilities but then through science-fiction magic his body transformed into the epiphany of health.
Similarly, most of the villains are also disabled but they happen to be the ones that didn’t get a miracle “cure”
Obviously every superhero universe is populated by disabled people. In a textbook version of disability we are already the majority of society but still the most marginalized. It would make perfect sense that every planet is full of disabled people and every single character is ours and NTABs need to get authorized permission before referring to any of them with pet names.

Coffee Prince
In case you missed the announcement we made during this Monday’s podcast episode, for the last 2 episodes that we will be releasing this month (on 7/17 and 7/24) we will be talking about “Coffee Prince”, a beloved Korean drama that’s a classic example of the women-in-pants trope.
If you’ve never seen it before, now’s the time to start watching! (It’s so good you guys! There’s a reason it still regularly shows up on peoples lists of favorite dramas 10 years after it aired) You can watch all 17 episodes for free on these websites:

I firmly believe that disabled and mentally ill characters should be portrayed on screen by actors with those actual disabilities, but I also know that Hollywood is greedy and ableist and it's going to take a long time for that to become a reality. (1/2)
In the absence of firsthand experience with the disability being portrayed, I greatly prefer knowing that an actor researched and talked to disabled people and took their experiences seriously and incorporated them into their performance, rather than the actor doing nothing to accurately portray disability and just acting how they ‘think’ we act.
It’s just a lesson bitter poison but I also appreciate the gesture because I never really blame the actors, I want to live despite being disabled and I’m sure they want to live despite being  NTAB so a check is a check, although I think if any of them try to educate for any group they should put their money where their mouth is and not play characters outside of their race or gender or sexuality or ability.
People argue that these are actors and so this isn’t an issue but those people are the ones that think theater is the top three blockbusters each summer.
A human being can take a role as a fish and the audience can suspend disbelief or you can just get a fucking fish and throw it on stage. If you’re trying to create a realistic fish but you’d like it to walk and talk and regret dropping out of college too early then you don’t actually want a real fucking fish. Putting water wings on some asshole is a weak and the arts aren’t for weak people.
That’s why most of the more influential artists and writers have been disabled, we have a good work ethic and better judgment.
