eFootball PES 2020 Review - The Beautiful Game

eFootball PES 2020 Review - The Beautiful Game
Tumblr media
Paying attention to the lead-up to eFootball PES 2020‘s release has sometimes felt a bit like following football’s real-life transfer market. Having lost the official license of current Champions League holders Liverpool, Konami responded by replacing the Liverpudlian club with their archrivals, Manchester United. PES 2020 even got a leg up on the powerhouse of FIFA by nabbing the exclusive license to Italian giants Juventus, forcing FIFA 20 to settle for a facsimile called Piemonte Calcio. And while the inelegant esports-flavoured name change might be bad, the scrappy underdog has been wheeling and dealing in an attempt to make PES 2020 a more attractive proposition for those beholden to the church of FIFA. It’s commendable and clearly important, but PES should attract people because of its on-pitch excellence.
PES 2020 feels surprisingly different to last year’s game once you emerge from the tunnel. The pace has been slowed down once again, delivering a realistic brand of football that’s more methodical and less about ping-ponging the ball up the pitch in a matter of seconds. A palpable sense of weight to each and every player–not to mention the ball–can make the whole thing feel a tad sluggish at first, but it doesn’t take long to adapt to this more considered style of play, and your input is as responsive as ever. Part of this is down to how smoothly the action flows. PES 2020 stitches each animation together with much more clarity than in previous years, effectively capturing natural movements that shift the simulation closer to reality. The new default camera angle helps with this, too, presenting the action at a slight curve that mimics what you see on TV every match day while giving you a broader view of the pitch.

This increased visibility is important because there’s a greater emphasis on space and positioning in PES 2020. The pace of play might be slower than in previous entries, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t moments in almost every match where an explosive injection of speed is introduced. The blistering acceleration of the fastest players in the game is immediately discernible without it ever feeling like an overpowered and one-dimensional crux. This is due to the fact that these players need space in order to utilize their game-changing speed. Most matches in PES 2020 tend to be fairly tight affairs depending on the tactics deployed by both teams, but a goal can significantly alter the outlook of a match in a hurry. Suddenly, acres of space open up for one team to exploit as the other pushes forward looking for an equalizer. And it’s on the counter-attack where fleet-footed players really shine, able to burst forward into open grass and cause havoc for defenders.
On the flip side, when there’s limited space to work with player positioning comes to the forefront. The AI is intelligent enough to seek out pockets of space off the ball, and they’ll helpfully offer an outlet pass if you ever find yourself wandering into a cul-de-sac. You’ll also frequently see wide players such as Messi and Mbappe come deep to pick up possession of the ball, looking for a way to impact the match away from the isolation and tight coverage of the defense. Players will make smart runs in behind, too, though it’s much harder to thread that inch-perfect pass behind the defense in PES 2020. You can still pull it off occasionally, especially if you have an adept playmaker on the ball and space to work with, but playing through ball after ball doesn’t work with as much frequency as it has done in the past. This encourages a greater variety of goals, both by real players and the AI. You might see tidy one-touch passes splitting open a defense for a striker to wrap it up with an easy finish; a bullet header that’s smashed in from a mouth-watering cross; or a 30-yard hit-and-hope that takes a wicked deflection off the back of a defender, rendering the goalkeeper helpless. Speaking of which, there’s a lot more zip to long shots this year, making them a viable source of goals even if you might only score one in 15 attempts.
The long-overdue addition of context-sensitive kick accuracy factors into all of the above as well. Now, a player’s posture, position on the pitch, and the amount of defensive pressure they’re under will impact the accuracy of both passes and shots. If a defender can’t get a clean foot on the ball when a player is barrelling through the box, their presence might still be enough to put off the opposing attacker and send his shot wayward. Once again, this margin for error amplifies the importance of spacing and your ability to gain a yard of separation for a clear-cut opportunity. Sometimes a player’s first touch is enough to escape the clutches of an aggressive defender, with PES 2020’s litany of new animations and techniques allowing players to exhibit more intelligence when interacting with an approaching ball.
This is another element that adds to the realism and inherent satisfaction of PES’ football, providing you with an added degree of control that encompasses numerous variables such as the incoming ball’s speed, the receiving player’s body position, their skill level, and their playstyle. This aspect of PES 2020 grants certain players a sense of personality and individualism, with some utilizing recognizable skills and techniques to trap the ball. Along those same lines, AI teammates will even spread out to give skilled dribblers more room to work with, or make aggressive runs when a proficient passer has the ball at his feet. You’ll only really notice some of this behavior with superstars like Ronaldo and Neymar, but there are other, smaller details that lend each player a tangible slice of humanity, too. For instance, the whole team has a tendency to remonstrate with the referee after the award of a free kick on the edge of their box, while a striker might wag his finger at the linesmen after a tight offside call. You may even notice the goalkeeper urging his defense to push up out of the corner of your eye, or see a defender crumple to the floor in pain after taking a shot to the midriff. Again, these are minute details, but they contribute to a sense of authenticity that elevates how enjoyable PES 2020 is to play.
The latter example is also part of PES 2020’s improvements to defending and an increased physicality across the pitch. Players aren’t afraid to put their bodies on the line, blocking shots and crosses with reckless abandon to prevent the opposition from scoring. Sometimes this can lead to moments like the aforementioned deflected goal, and the ensuing goalmouth scrambles after some fortuitously blocked shots are also fantastically chaotic. Ideally, you’ll put a stop to most attacks before they reach this point, which is helped by defending being genuinely enjoyable this year. There’s a real wince-inducing crunch to some fouls, and a plethora of new tackling and clearing animations gives you more ways to win the ball back. There are no force fields around attacking players either, but they can use their bodies to get between man and ball, with physically stronger players able to hold off defenders more effectively than most. Referees are still maddeningly inconsistent, however–much like in real life. They’re too whistle-happy at times and waste no time digging into their pocket to book players for innocuous fouls. Other times they’ll ignore blatant penalties for no earthly reason.
Fortunately, opposing team AI fares much better. The days of playing teams with a single-minded pursuit of drilling low crosses into the box are gone. There’s a delightful variety of ways the AI will now approach each game, scoring all types of goals with a number of different tactics, whether they’re bombarding you with long balls or passing between the lines. This makes the long-standing Master League mode a lot more enjoyable to play in PES 2020. The basic makeup of the mode hasn’t really changed, but there are some new superficial additions. Instead of building a manager at the offset using a limited character creator, Master League now asks you to pick from numerous players and managers from the past and present of football, including Diego Maradona, Roberto Carlos, and the late Johan Cruyff. Throughout the season there are dynamic cutscenes that regularly present you with dialogue choices to help shape your manager’s personality and allow you to set numerous objectives for your team. In truth, none of these scenes impact the game in any meaningful way. Your dialogue choices will affect how fans and the media perceive you, but this is entirely inconsequential.
A more significant change in Master League revolves around transfers and how they’re not quite as ridiculous as in the past. You’ll still see teams pay exorbitant amounts of money for players they don’t particularly need, but at least the fees are somewhat in the realms of reality. It’s highly unlikely a team will splash out on a 33-year-old, for example, but that won’t stop PSG spending triple digits to sign Sadio Mane. Beyond this, however, Master League is still stuck in the same holding pattern it has been for a few years now. Taking the default group of mediocre players up through the leagues–and eventually falling in love with them–is still engaging, especially now that the AI is a lot more fun to play against. But Master League still feels like a case of been-here-done-that.

MyClub, the Ultimate Team-style fantasy team builder, is in a similar position, yet remains PES’ best game mode. Constructing a team of legends and current players is still appealing, and the ability to play against the AI, other human players, and in co-op games gives you plenty of options to play PES however you prefer. Microtransactions are still present, but quickly assembling a competitive team doesn’t rely on parting with real-world money unless you’re impatient. PES 2020 also changes the way player ratings work, with every player you acquire starting with their default rating at a minimum. From there you can continue to upgrade them and exceed this rating or acquire special team-of-the-week players that are already rated higher, but you’ll no longer have to worry about getting a lowly 82 rated Raheem Sterling that needs extra training.
The licensing issue revolving around PES will likely never going go away, and people are still going to download option files to get all of the official kits and badges anyway. Like its predecessors, eFootball PES 2020 continues to do its talking on the pitch, refining and improving on last year’s game to present what might be the greatest football game ever made. Sure, it’s disappointing that you still can’t play as Borussia Dortmund and the majority of the Bundesliga and a few other leagues, and its single-player offering is almost identical to what was included three years ago. But all of this effortlessly drifts to the back of your mind once you step between those white lines and simply start playing the beautiful game.

Excellent Two Player Games on iPhone, iPad and Android
Some of the greatest things in life are better shared. Two player games offer the most direct chances for head-to-head competition or connection. No misty-eyed sentiment there, just a fact. One mind probing the ingenuity and exiguity of another through games.
Maybe you like to play in person on the same screen, or even on different devices via local multiplayer, or instead online with asynchronous multiplayer. A test of reflexes or planning? The games below run the gamut, with variety enough for all kinds of people and situations. Give them a try the next time with a fellow gamer. You won’t be disappointed.
What are the best two player apps for iOS & Android?
Santorini
Fort Sumter
Tides of Time
Morels
Uniwar
Words with Friends 2
Burgle Bros
Onitama
Neuroshima Hex
Glow Hockey 2
Ready Steady Bang
Patchwork
Santorini
Developer: Roxley Platforms: iOS & Android Price: $4.99
The problem with many 'dedicated' two-player games is that sometimes the game can only entertain you for so long - playing with the same person constantly means that you end up learning their ways and instead of tense, drawn out affairs it can be easy to see who's winning quite quick;y. Santorini, an excellent port of a board game of the same name, side-steps most of these problems by not only offering a tactically engaging base game (where you won't know who's won until they've won), but also near-infinite replay-ability in the form of powers.
Your goal in the game is to try and build up a tower to its third level and then place one of your two pawns on that tower, but your opponent is doing the same. Each pawn HAS to move and build every turn, and three-story towers can be capped by an opponent, denying you your winning move. It becomes an intricate dance and a contest of tactical prowess as you try and manoeuvre yourself and your opponent exactly where you want them. The inclusion of game-altering special abilities only serves to make things more intense- you're unlikely to tire of this one anytime soon.
Fort Sumter
Developer: Playdek Platforms: iOS & Android Price: $6.99
Playdek's Fort Sumter: Secession Crisis tackles the introductory moves to the American Civil War in a quick, 15-minute hand of cards between two players. Your job is to position yourself for the most political influence possible as you prepare for the inevitable outbreak of the war. But Fort Sumter manages all this in an elegant little game that takes the card-based intrigue of Twilight Struggle and streamlines them, and the result is a two-player experience that's easy to learn and allows for a lot of nuance in every game.
Morels
Developer: Mossbark Games Platforms:  iOS Universal, Android Price: $4.99
The physical version of Morels (also known as Fungi) was a very casual and fun card game for two people. It's only drawback was that it took up a fair amount of room, but thanks to Mossbark's excellent digital adaptation, that's no longer a concern. If Pass & Play and even online multiplayer modes, all of the best traits of Morels have survived into the mobile port.
Especially good for couples, Morels is very laid back, but also paced and easy to play. You won't need to remember anything too complex, and it's an excellent time-waster if you're travelling together or are just looking for some quick  and easy post-dinner entertainment at home.
Uniwar
Developer: Spooky House Studios Platforms:  iOS, Android Price: Free with non-invasive IAP
Uniwar is an ambitious turn-based strategy game which proudly wears its influences on its sleeve. It has the conquer-the-map tension of Advance Wars as well as the creative asymmetry of different player races: the fleshy Terrans, chitinous Insectoids and metallic...Robots. The abilities and interactions across these units are rather lively and varied, walking the fine edge between ‘interesting’ and ‘unbalanced’. Hotseat play is simple as can be, with quite a few maps offered, and there’s also online play.
Words with Friends 2
Developer: Zygna Platforms:  iOS, Android Price: Free
Words with Friends has been around almost as long as smartphones themselves, and it’s still a golden way to spend the better part of a day or longer. Yes, it’s like that other classic board game, and there’s a delicious subtext of who-spells-what-when. (Words score points but also...score points, making associations, repartee, even a kind of conversation). It just works on multiple levels, from a pure gameplay perspective but also in terms of social pay-out and connection. Oh, and on the gameplay front, it’s worth noting that advanced play involves so much more than just scoring the most impressive single word on a given turn. It also means thinking about positioning, letter draws and pacing, bonuses: basically long-con strategy stuff. Words with Friends is an oldie but a goodie, and a surprisingly handy way to keep in touch with friends.
Burgle Bros.
Developer: Fowers Games Inc. Platforms:  iOS, Android Price: $4.99
Co-op games are great, but even the greats tend to be best either purely solo or with the max player count. Burgle Bros, however, is unique in that it shines especially with two. With two, the joint is cased twice as fast, but hiding is much harder. To quickly reprise the game for those unfamiliar: players explore each floor’s tiles till they discover the safe, crack the combination, retrieve the  and advance to the next level.
Patrolling guards and alarms will make things difficult, and if any player runs out of stealth points they risk getting caught and getting sent to the slammer. Some of the game’s more advanced tactics and interactions really only come into their own with a dynamic duo. Yes, gadgets and treasures along with character abilities combine but the real clincher is the pathing and alert system. Guards can be re-routed by tripping alarms, so the best teams take heat for each other. Two-player stealth doesn’t get much better than this.
Onitama
Developer: Asmodee Digital Platforms:  iOS, Android Price: Free (with expansions, content packs as optional DLC)
Onitama is a game primarily about not losing. Sounds like weak, roundabout praise, I know, but what this means in practice is thinking many steps in advance, reasoning recursively to move from point B to point A, something surprisingly difficult. Woah there, let's back up a little and actually talk about the game. Onitama is a two-player abstract game played on a two-dimensional square grid, much like chess. Players win by either capturing their opponent's 'King' piece or alternatively by moving their own respective King onto the other player's start space. The twist is how movement patterns work, for they are dictated by cards which can be used once, then eventually become playable by the opponent. There are only five given movement pattern cards (of a larger set) in a specific game, and this larger flow between good positioning and a good hand of cards makes the game quite intense. The app is free and as well-polished as any of Asmodee's releases.
Neuroshima Hex
Developer: Portal Games Platforms: iOS, Android Price: $4.99, 2.99
This one features asymmetrical factions trying to control the board by selecting two of three tiles (six-sided hexes, that is) each turn. The post-apocalyptic setting and wildly divergent playstyles of the groups make it an unusually colorful strategy game, but these flourishes of variety do nothing to detract from the game’s balance. The base game only includes four races, but that alone is plenty to start with and the rest are available as paid DLC. Tile-laying madcap fun.
Glow Hockey 2
Developer: Natenai Ariyatrakool Platforms: iOS, Android Price: $0.99, Free.
Arcade- or action-style two player games are the epitome of beer-and-pretzel fun. Crystal clear consequences, nothing to overthink or overanalyze just quick wrists instead of quick wits. Pure impulse and reaction make for some reliable fun, and Glow Hockey is a passable digital dupe for Air Hockey, minus the constant click-clack of the pucks. The physics are satisfying, the controls responsive. It works well in an understated and way that is impossible to hype, but it still entirely worth recognizing.
Ready Steady Bang
Developer: Cowboy Games Platforms: iOS, Android Price: $0.99, Free.
A western showdown at sundown. Quick-draw, one-shot, one-kill. Ready, Steady, Bang is this experience, over and over, with variable countdown timing and a variety of death animations. Technically there’s also a short ‘campaign’ mode vs. AI with ironclad timing thresholds, but the meat of the game can be reduced to a single perfectly timed gesture. Dead simple, quick and satisfying. Just don’t be the other guy.
Patchwork
Developer: DIGIDICED Platforms: iOS, Android Price: $2.99
Patchwork may be pint-sized compared to some of its juggernaut neighbors on this list, but what it lacks in player count or time commitment it makes up in charm and crystal-clear, razor sharp strategy. (Those two make for quite the odd couple) Patchwork is a variable-setup perfect information abstract for two players. Players work to fill up their empty boards by adding patches to them, of various polyomino sizing, with the ultimate goal of filling the whole swath and collecting as many covetous buttons along the way. It is almost instantly intuitive yet perplexing and sophisticated even after dozens of plays, with turns chained together or telegraphed from miles away. A sweet game that can also be a hardcore match of wits.

Cuphead (2017)
What a truly fantastic game Cuphead is. From the old-timey graphics to the complex animation and boss fights, this game is everything that I have ever wanted. Since the game came out, I have been playing it pretty much every time I get the chance. To first load up the game, and hear that music and the animation style, I felt like I wouldn’t enjoy the game, since I’m more of a modern guy, but boy was I wrong. Let’s get right into the review.
The Plot - In the game ‘Cuphead” you play as Cuphead and his pal, Mugman. They lived safely at their home in Inkwell, and the Elder Kettle would watch over them as they played outside. One day, they wondered a bit too far from their home, and came upon the Devil’s casino. The Elder Kettle had warned them, but they couldn’t resist. They went on a winning streak at the Craps table, and the manager of the casino, King Dice, couldn’t believe his eyes. He called over his boss, the Devil. The Devil suggested they raise the steaks. He claimed that if they won one more hand, he would hand everything in the casino over to them, but if they lost, he would take their souls. Cuphead, without even thinking, agreed to this deal. Mugman knew otherwise, but it was too late before he could stop him. Cuphead rolled snake eyes and lost the bet. The Devil was quick to want to claim their souls, but they begged to work something out. The Devil agreed, and made another deal with them. If they did his dirty work of cleaning up those who owed him, he would let them live. With no other choice, they agreed, and went on their way. Now tasked with a seemingly impossible goal, they went to the Elder Kettle for help. He told them that they had to play along. So they did.
How does it feel?    Awesome. In a game where movement is your only way to defend against many attacks, the player needs to be able to handle the character well. Cuphead goes far beyond just success in this aspect. It doesn’t feel like you are trying to move on ice or in quicksand, which is the worst possible thing for a 2D platforming game. The jumping just feels right and I don’t really know why. I truly can’t explain it. And the last main aspect of every fight is the offense, your finger gun. With 6 different shots, you can find the right one for you and play the way that you feel. There is the Peashooter, the default shot. It’s surprisingly useful even later in the game. The Shotgun, it shoots 4(?) streams of bullets in one direction, but the range is rather short. If you can get very close to a boss, this is the shot you want to use. Next is the Chaser, it shoots green bullets that will chase down the closest enemy to your player. This is best used when in boss fights where you are jumping around a lot, and can’t shoot your target often, or if there are a lot of low health enemies, as it doesn’t do a lot of damage. Number 4, the Roundabout. I call it the Boomerang, because that is pretty much what it shoots, boomerangs. It shoots at a moderate speed, and as the name implies the bullets will stop at a certain distance, turn around, and come back at you. They don’t hurt you though. On the way back, they do more damage. 5th, the Lobber. You launch balls, rather than bullets with this shot, and the balls fall to the ground and bounce a little bit before disappearing. They shot pretty slowly, but deal a good amount of damage. Finally, the Charge shot. This is the shot I find the most useful, I regret not buying it sooner in my run. It’s very simple, you charge it, then release to deal massive damage. It does not deal more damage the longer you hold it down. The final aspect of ground combat is the parry, parrying is essentially when you double jump on an object that is glowing pink. It builds your ultimate meter, and throws you into the air. This mechanic feels a little bit clunky in my opinion. Sometimes when I press the jump button on a pink object, it fails to parry and I end up getting hit. I might just need to git gud though.
But platforming isn’t the only style of play in this game, there are a few fights that have air battles. I’m not a huge fan of the mechanics in the air, though. The plane feels odd to control and this occasionally leads to you getting hit, when you swear you dodged it. Because of this, there is a shrink ability that makes your plane small and fast as long as you hold the button, and makes it infinitely easier to dodge the bosses attacks.
In conclusion to the feel, I don’t think it needs any changes. It is fine as it is and is extremely satisfying to control your character. (9/10)
How does it look? Simple. It looks very simple, and that’s a good thing. The animation and drawing style is very reminiscent of 30s cartoons. In fact, some of the animations are direct references to old cartoons. Even the island name, “Inkwell” is an obvious nod to Inkwell Studios. While the animation, colors, and lines are much more detailed than old cartoons, it feels like a remaster of old animation. And it’s a new style than what we have been getting recently. Most hyped up new games these days are FPS games *cough* PUBG *cough*, so having a new style of game is very refreshing.
Little animation errors. Done very well, and while it’s an old style, it feels brand new. Easy (10/10)
How does it taste? As in, what do you think of the game as you are playing it. This part is mostly just for the individual to decide, everyone is going to feel different. For me, it’s sour. Not a bad sour though, like a Warhead candy, it’s rough to get through, but after you finish it you just want more. At times I got pretty upset at the game. (Inb4 “git gud”) But after finally finishing that one boss that I’ve been stuck on, I just want to go to the next one. But it only gets harder. I wouldn’t say I’m on the level of the idiotic game journalists who use their presence as a writer to beg a ‘Skip Boss’ button, hell, I’ve wanted to skip bosses before, but where’s the fun in that, right? You’re not actually beating the game if you can just skip it.
If you like a challenge, have fun. If you get mad easily, good luck. After finishing the game, I honestly wish there were more and harder bosses, and I guarentee you will feel the same. (8/10)
How does it sound? The OST is not what you would expect from an intense game with mostly boss fights, but I would be lying if I said I would rather have a DOOM like OST.  Instead of metal guitar, rock, or techno, you get piano, jazz, and trumpets. I love it.
There is really not much else to say. It’s amazing. Another (10/10)
Conclusion - This game is the bomb. It’s only been out for about two weeks now and it is incredibly successful. If you are looking for a game to keep you busy, this is it. This game is perfect for casual gamers, completionists, perfectionists, speedrunners, anyone of any playstyle, this is the game. Growing up playing every Mario or Sonic game that ever existed, this is really all I could ever want. Now I just want a part two, a 3d version of the game, a DLC, anything, I just need more. While I’m waiting, I’ll probably just re complete the game on expert mode. Anyway, controls are great, not too complicated, and they register well. No BS hit boxes and the hit regulation is wonderful. With different charms, super arts, and bullet types, you can customize the game to your playstyle. The music is unique for it’s time as well as the graphics. You can tell the animators worker they asses off with this project. Good game boys, good game.
9.8/10. If you haven’t bought this game already, what the hell are you waiting for?

eFootball PES 2020 Review - Back Of The Net

eFootball PES 2020 Review - Back Of The Net

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

It's no coincidence that a lot of the games here are board games, so why not check out our dedicated list?
Maybe you like to play in person on the same screen, or even on different devices via local multiplayer, or instead online with asynchronous multiplayer. A test of reflexes or planning? The games below run the gamut, with variety enough for all kinds of people and situations. Give them a try the next time with a fellow gamer. You won’t be disappointed.

Twilight Struggle
Santorini (Review)
Fort Sumter (Review)
Developer: Playdek Platforms: iOS & Android Price: $6.99
Playdek's Fort Sumter: Secession Crisis tackles the introductory moves to the American Civil War in a quick, 15-minute hand of cards between two players. Your job is to position yourself for the most political influence possible as you prepare for the inevitable outbreak of the war. But Fort Sumter manages all this in an elegant little game that takes the card-based intrigue of Twilight Struggle and streamlines them, and the result is a two-player experience that's easy to learn and allows for a lot of nuance in every game.
Tides of Time (Review)
Developer: Portal Games Platforms: iOS & Android Price: $4.99
Tides of Time's digital adaptation does an excellent job at bringing this 2-player micro-game to life, with wonderful visuals and animations, and a faithful recreation of all the rules and mechanics. It's flaws are mainly to do with the original design: There's not a lot to it, so it's not a game you can play a lot off - physically or via an app. It should definitely be part of your two-player playlist though, and you'll enjoy its drafting and set-collection strategy. It's a nice, casual game where the competition isn't too fierce, but the challenge is still just as rewarding.
Morels (Review)
Developer: Mossbark Games Platforms:  iOS Universal, Android Price: $4.99
The physical version of Moresl (also known as Fungi) was a very casual and fun card game for two people.
(Review)
Patchwork (Review)

Santorini (Review)

Antihero (Review)
Developer: Versus Evil Platforms: iOS, Android Price: $4.99
There is no high road in Antihero. Mischief and misfortune rule in its Victorian, Dickensian setting which makes the sooty and sullen into something fun. (The art direction and design are majorly on point with this game). Plus, the game itself is incredibly intense and stressful, always putting players in a race for victory points over a shockingly brief time. The game still manages to have a distinct beginning, middle, and end while allowing for a non-trivial variety of build paths and playstyles. It’s fog-of-war and bluff systems inject just enough tension to keep the game from becoming deterministic, and it’s one of the best original digital games to come out within recent memory. Oh, and it’s exclusively for two players, either through asynchronous or real-time play.

It’s fog-of-war and bluff systems inject just enough tension to keep the game from becoming deterministic, and it’s one of the best original digital games to come out within recent memory. Oh, and it’s exclusively for two players, either through asynchronous or real-time play.
Patchwork (Review)

The Best Two Player Games on iPhone, iPad and Android
Some of the greatest things in life are better shared. Two player games offer the most direct chances for head-to-head competition or connection. No misty-eyed sentiment there, just a fact. One mind probing the ingenuity and exiguity of another through games.
If you want something epic to embark on on your own, how about taking a look at these great RPGs?
Maybe you like to play in person on the same screen, or even on different devices via local multiplayer, or instead online with asynchronous multiplayer. A test of reflexes or planning? The games below run the gamut, with variety enough for all kinds of people and situations. Give them a try the next time with a fellow gamer. You won’t be disappointed.
Editor's Top Tip:  I've been playing a lot of Ticket to Ride with my wife recently. It's already on our list of the best Board Games so it's not feature below, but between the challenging bots and the pass-and-play functionality, it's a great one to whip out when it's just the two of us and we're stuck for something to do.
Morels (Review)
Developer: Mossbark Games Platforms:  iOS Universal, Android Price: $4.99
The physical version of Moresl (also known as Fungi) was a very casual and fun card game for two people.
(Review)
