It’s not so often that you get a new motorcycle dealership that opens fairly near to where you live (in my case probably only around five or so miles away), but that is exactly what has just happened.

The actual location is down near the J&S Accessories (Manchester branch) in Openshaw – which is about two and half miles outside the city centre, 10 or 11 miles from Glossop (at the end/start of the Snake Pass) and probably less that two miles from that modern day cathedral of football – Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium.

For one reason or another this store has taken an age to open – it must be at least 18 months or so since I noticed a sign that went up on the building that is now the CMC Manchester Store, to say that a new motorcycle dealership was coming soon, but in fact it was only a week or so ago that it actually opened.

Yesterday my wife and I were driving past, noticed that it was open and decided to call in for a browse. They are a Yamaha main dealer as well as selling used bikes from all the major manufacturers and I’ve got to be honest and say that first impressions of the store are pretty impressive.

The layout of the new bikes section (Yamaha) is spot on, well lit, spacious and plenty of room to look at a decent range of models – and it actually reminded me of the sort of sense of order that you get in the Williams BMW (Manchester) store. We spent some time chatting to Simon the Yamaha Brand Ambassador (I think that’s his correct title) and he came across as a decent person and one that’s probably good to deal with if you’re in the market for a new machine.

One of the bikes that struck me was a new XV 950R from the Sports Heritage range beautifully finished in gloss grey although I’m sure Yamaha have a more marketable name that simple ‘gloss grey’. My wife and I looked at one of these a couple of years ago when we were looking around for another bike and as much as I could be tempted by this one, it’s doesn’t quite strike me as ideal for riding ‘two up’. The used bike section is decent as well and there was a good selection of machines all of which were immaculately presented. My only criticism of this section (and indeed of the store) is that none of the used bikes for sale that we looked at had the mileage on the ‘sales ticket’ – which for me isn’t really that helpful. I sort of get it if the idea is that by asking for that information it starts a potential ‘sales conversation’ but for me as punter I want that information up front, but maybe not everyone is bothered about that?

The gallery below has some snaps from the used bike area, an example of when having the mileage on the ‘sales ticket’ would have been helpful (to me) is the blue BMW R1200R – a 2015 model, very clean, very well presented but no mileage on the ticket! When I checked with one of the sales guys it was only 4,721, but he had to go and get the keys, turn the bike on etc before he could tell me (although it must have been on the documentation wallet that he had in his hand). In fairness if you are browsing on line, the mileage of the used bikes is all clearly shown.

We also had a wander round the accessories area, and in keeping with the rest of the store seemed to be well stocked, with decent choice and well presented. The pictures in the gallery below will give you an idea.

And almost finally, like any decent bike shop there should be somewhere to get a drink and there’s space set aside with tables, chairs and vending machines – we didn’t have time to check out the coffee from the machine, but I will be doing on my next visit and I’ll post update when I’ve been there again

So all in all, it looks promising and it’s got to be good to have a new store close to home (for me) and with plenty of parking space as well. I really hope they do well, although I did wonder what the folk at the J&S store a hundred yards away think – from a buyers perspective competition has got to be good and I guess most folk will wander between the two. My own view is that CMC might have the edge in terms if first ‘port of call’ – what biker doesn’t like a brew and a browse around new and used bikes?

Bali, 19-28 Juli 2018 (part I)

So, Kathryn, Veby dan Michelle liburan ke Bali lebih dari seminggu. Kathryn dan Veby tiba di Bali hari Kamis tanggal 19 Juli. Michelle nyusul datang hari Sabtu tanggal 21. Dan ada bg Jose, pacar Veby yang nyusul juga hari Senin tanggal 23. Btw, bg Jose dan Veby udah ga ketemuan setahun lebih karena ldr. Huft #ldrsurvivor. Kamis siang sekitar jam 2 siang WITA, Veby dan Kathryn sampai di Bali. Mereka berangkat dari Solo karena tiket yang paling murah ke Bali ya darisitu. Terus aku arahin mereka ke kost ku daerah Gianyar. Aku udah ninggalin kunci kamar dibawah keset kaki. Ya, ku masih magang disitu. So, i couldn’t join them on weekdays.  Kamis, 19 Juli Sepulang dari magang aku, Momon, Kathryn dan Veby ambil motor sewaan dulu di jalan Tukad terus lanjut makan malam di Sky Garden. Sky garden itu club but free entry for ladies at 9pm. Kita cuma duduk, makan dan joget ditempat duduk aja. Belum berani ke dance floor kemarin. Setelah satu jam duduk, ada yang jb jb sama kita. Ngajak kenalan dan nanya nama, ku dan veby nyebut nama asli tapi Kathryn dan Momon nyebut nama palsu ha ha. Terus kita kekeh aja dan spontan semua lompat dari tempat duduk buat pulang wkwkwk LOL. Kami ternyata sepolos itu.

Jumat, 20 Juli Paginya, ku dan Momon berangkat magang ke Tripper. Veby dan Kathryn jalan ke Sukawati. Weekend ini Momon nginap di tempat Paki-nya (Paman in Simalungun, i tho) and i spent weekend without Momon. Di hari ini juga, ku pertama kali naik motor ditengah-tengah jalan besar. Jantungan woi. At that momeng, i have a will-be-died-soon feeling. But, it works. I could ride motorbike that well. Ku naik motor menuju Bali Paradise Suites,where we will spent our weekend there, untuk check-in. Fasilitasnya nyaman bangetngetttttt. It cost 450k and we get private pool, bathroom, wifi, kitchen-set, TV, hot water, mineral water, Air Conditioner, and Queen size bed, etc. Luv. Happy hahaha. Kathryn dan Veby kemarin jalan disekitaran Kuta dan lagi nyari bikini. Setelah check-in di hotel i choose to stay in suite, cause too tired to riding the motorcycle.

Sabtu, 21 Juli Sekitar jam 9am kita pergi ke pantai sekitaran Canggu. Setelah mantai kita pergi ke love anchor, tempat dimana ada bazaar jual accesories, baju dan lainnya. luv. Kita juga pergi ke toko-toko sekitaran canggu buat cuci mata doang he he. Sorenya kita balik ke villa dan langsung berendam di pool. Kita nunggu Michelle yang baru aja landing. So happy to meet them. Malamnya, kita ke Galleria Mall Bali (kalo ga salah). Kita ke HnM buat beli bikini Michelle wkwk. Setelah ngemall, kita makan di Laota, restaurant hongkong, dan ku suka bubur ikan dan cakuenya. Lebih malamnya lagi, kita lanjut ke La Favela, club di daerah Legian. Awalnya mereka males dan hopeless ngeliat antrian yang panjang buat masuk ke sana dan harus nge-cek ID card. Meanwhile, Kathryn and Michelle still 20yo. Ya ku gamau aja malam ini sia-sia. So, ku bujuk its okay to get in line. Dan sola ID card, kita pasrah. Selama kita ngantri ada abang” yang nyerobot antrian kita. Awalnya kesel, tapi kita gaet doi untuk jadi pasangan kita biar kita lolos ID card. Pas pengecekan tas, Michelle dan Kathryn lolos pengecekan ID card, dan ku yang kena panggil. Aku gatau kenapa cuma aku yang kena panggil diantara mereka semua wkwkwkwkwk mungkin dikira ku still in hogh school HA HA. Ku selo aja pas pengecekan karena enggak under age. Michelle dan Kathryn senang pake kali bisa masuk. Disana kita minum (ha ha cuma bintang sama san miguel), terus joget. Di dalam ada photobooth so sebelum keringatan we took some photobooth picture. Selama kita di dance floor, banyak juga yang jb jb mau joget bareng kita. Seperti sebelumnya, yang awalnya joget bentuk lingkaran kita langsung mencar kayak bocah ke spot lain. WKWK lol. Terus ada lagi ibu-ibu dress merah, i tho she is russian, ngeliatin kita secara dalam, hampirin Veby dan bisikin sesuatu ke Veby wkwkwkwk kayak setan. Sumpah. Kita berempat langsung mencar lagi nyari spot baru. I tho that women was in drunk. Lucu sih kalau diingat-ingat. Sekitar 3.30am kita berencana memutuskan untuk pulang. Selama perjalanan dari lantai dua ke pintu keluar. The place still crowded. Veby pun kena grepe” sama bule. From that accident, Veby langsung badmood dan kita memutuskan untuk bener” pulang, eventho still wanna dance. What a night.

Minggu, 22 Juli Besoknya, kita bangun siang banget sekitaran jam 12.00. Bangun” kita langsung mandi terus cao makan di nasi babi guling Pak Malen. Di parkitan, kita ketemu ibu” sosialita yang lagi liburan juga. Awalnya si ibu say hi ke kita dan nanya ke kita kalau sewa motor berapaan. Si ibu orang batak-jakarta wkwkw. Dan kita langsung nyambung aja. Ponakan ibu itu stosa juga ternyata tapi angkatan 17. Awalnya si ibu ngita kita chinese-teen squad wkwk. E ternyata batak juga. Selesai makan kita lanjut ke Potato Head. Rencananya ga mau mantai dan ga prepare anything. Tapi setelah liat pasir sama laut, aku sama Michelle mutusin buat balik ambil baju wkwkw. Dan ku mutusin beli bikini disini. Ha ha. Setelah ambil segala perlengkapan, kita mantai dan liat sunset. Uh sunset Bali ga pernah ngecewain. Malamnya kita dinner di Nuri’s. Kita pesen ribs, chicken steak sama nasi goreng. Enakla pokoknya. Terus kita balik ke Suites dan ku lanjut balik ke kost. Karena besok ku harus magang:’

Black Rock City is maybe the hardest city to describe and explain.. because none of your usual rules apply there, and it’s something you’ve never seen before and you have nothing to compare it to, and also because each person will have a completely different experience there. So each experience is unique and it really does reflect well what Burning Man is, an unique event in an unique place. We wanted to go there since maybe 4 years, and this roadtrip was the perfect opportunity to try, it was really last minute because we bought the last chance tickets in August! We were so excited, and scared at the same times! You have to be really prepared to go there, you need to have all the right equipment in order to be self-sufficiant. The living conditions are pretty hard because you’re in an inhospitable desert with no waters ( you have to bring your own) and many dust storms! so bring some good googles! This year was especially cold during the night (5° celcius) and we had more dust storm than usual apparently but still… don’t get us wrong it was an unforgettable experience ! This place is beyond expectations, you’re surprised every minutes by what you see and by the kindness of people there, for exemple there is no money system, everything is based on gifting and sharing with your fellow burners..most of people are very helpful if you’re in need! We wanted to go there mostly for the art shows in the middle of the desert (the playa) like for instance you can find an old cinema , a fortune teller, a hug delie or a giant full-rigged ship on wheels in the middle of nowhere, it’s insane, but in a good way! and there is also plenty of activities during the day time from the simplest one like Yoga or making your own umbrella to the kinkiest one like spanking lessons! there’s something for every taste! The essentials accesories to bring are… crazy costumes, dare to dress in what you’ve always dreamed of, a samurai, a circus dancer, a rabbit ninja or a kawai princess, an Amazone! Everything is permitted there! you will quickely get a taste for it! And also very important accessory… the bike! because that’s how you get from one place to an other, Burning Man is very respectul of the ecological system and one of the most important motto there is «Leave no trace» so, no cars or motorbikes! To sum up, we advise to anyone who dreamed of going to Burning Man to do it, you won’t regret it, just be well prepared and enjoy the experience with no judgement, be open minded, and share with others. (Oh and also if you can save enough money, rent an R.V, even a small one… .it will make life much more easier there!).
