Motivation Monday: Week 1
It’s week one of Motivation Monday by @aslanwrites
Our prompt this week: “What is a WIP, a line, or even something you’ve created that you want to share but haven’t for whatever reason? What do you like about it?”
I was inspired by @kainablue to do a moodboard for a short story I have yet to publish called The Pawn Shop. I adore this story, and it’s the first piece I ever did that I ever considered “finished”. So much so that I have saved it for a time when I have a better chance of publishing it in a bigger forum. A lot of times short stories aren’t easy to get in the bigger periodicals if you’re a new author, so I’m putting out other work in hopes of paving the way for The Pawn Shop. That being said, I will start shopping it out on my 35th birthday whether I’ve managed to make a name for myself or not, because I have to share it! It’s the perfect balance of gore, drama, humor and character development that I consider my strong suit.

Introducing...
Tumblr media
(credit to the lovely @disoriented-writer for the term!)
So I made a post earlier last week about doing a positiveblr type thing every Monday! And it got a decent amount of support, so I thought I would try to explain myself further and introduce the concept/"rules"!
The Idea
We live in a world that encourages being self critical, and even on a level, glorifies negative thinking. We’re always “on”, aren’t we? The media that surrounds us isn’t always the best, or the happiest. There’s a lot going on in our world that it might feel like it’s so hard to stay happy--especially with mental disorders such as depression is on the rise.
There is this unspoken rule that we should not talk about ourselves in a manner that comes off as “conceited” or “narcissistic”. You’re scrutinized if you are prideful. And we’ve embraced a new type of style: self criticism. Now, we all have our own ways to cope with what we feel, some of us make dark jokes, some of us exercise, so on and so forth, but there is a point where the negativity of what we say, what we consume, does affect us.
And this is what I want to counteract. I, personally, struggle with major depression and anxiety--I was agoraphobic for a long time--and have since been diagnosed with a few things. And in therapy, I’ve learned quite a few tricks of the trade: how to like myself.
And in that journey, I figured out my self talk was a turning point. Going from, “I hate this/I think this sucks” to, “I’m happy with this part of what I did”. There’s always room for improvement with what you create, what you do, what you say, but how you go about it is what matters.
You can still like what you’ve created, but acknowledge that yes, you can improve--but you don’t have to ever do it in a manner that brings yourself down.
A week or so ago, I made a text post, requesting people to anonymously (or not) send me in their favorite writeblrs, or at least someone who deserves a shoutout. It was well received, I was receiving asks for quite awhile--the most my inbox has been active. And then I followed up the following week with another question:
“What have you done recently that you’re proud of?” It got quite a few likes, and a couple of responses (thank you! I loved hearing about what you’ve done!) and that’s about it. And that got my brain going: we’re very much willing to uplift other people, but why not boast about ourselves? At least for one day.
And I asked you guys your thoughts and got a bunch of responses--mostly likes--but still words of excitement and positivity. We need to love ourselves more. There will be an occassion where someone will create a positivity ask game--but that’s always for praising other people.
Thus, Motivation Monday.
What to Expect
Each Monday, starting 17/6/19, I’ll ask a question, create an ask game, or even have people send in a favorite line they wrote to create into a graphic! There will be a variety of things I plan on doing, and you are all free to join in, in whatever way you wish. And feel free to send in suggestions on what to do or ask!
What you can do: You can answer in your own text post or send in an ask, or even ask your own question for the week! The only goal is to get people to think positively and get them excited for their own works! The tracking tag will be motivatingmonday!
The "Rules"
Absolutely no negative self talk!
If you talk badly about yourself, I'll appear in your bathroom mirror and give you a disappointed frowny face, like so: 🙁
Spread the post if you can!
It doesn't have to end at the end of the day on Monday, I'll just be asking new questions then!
That's it! Not too hard!
And if you have any questions about this, you are always free to ask!

Motivation Monday - Week Two
Tumblr media
Thank you @aslanwrites for this great event (and this cool idea!)
Rewrite the following sentence, in your style:
“The flowers bloom.”
Here’s Kat’s version:
“It was surprising, really. From a distance these flowers looked rather delicate and mild, blooming under the pale moonlight. And yet, when I got closer to them, a strong almost rancid odor burned my nostrils like a tear gas.”
