What's the next big project after the SA2 followup video?

I have a lot of possibilities. The one I was trying to gravitate towards was a video on my Bubsy project. Explaining where it came from, what I was going to do with it, etc. Hoping to catch someone's attention after Atari probably ignored my pitch.

...Then Atari and Limited Run games announced that Bubsy collection, and that some of the Bubsy games would have "select improvements to make them more enjoyable." Which was sort of my whole thing.

Kind of taken a lot of the wind out of my sails. But the project was something I'd worked on for so many years, I should at least do something with it. Sunk cost and all that. I also imagine whatever hacks they're doing to smooth out Bubsy's rougher edges is nothing compared to me remaking the entire game from scratch in a game engine that feels significantly better.

And it might form the template for me to talk shop about more games I've made.

But I dunno.

I also wrote an outline for a whole Youtube channel history video after seeing LGR do his celebrating his 15th Anniversary. But I registered my channel in 2006, so it's not exactly 15 years. It's only 15 years if you count from my first video review (Sonic Unleashed). The outline also goes some pretty weird places, history stuff I don't talk about often (though some would say I talk about it too often). So again, I dunno.

I'm also readying something about the three years it took me to finish Mother 3. The idea was a text article with a podcast on the side where I read the article out loud for Patreon supporters, but listening to the WIP podcast (which could be out within the next week), it makes me wish I was just making this a full fledged video. But Mother 3 is long and the thought of replaying a 30 hour JRPG for video capture is a lot. Which is why it was going to be a article/podcast to begin with.

If all goes well I'll have a major shake up in my living situation soon so it's probably not a good idea to make too many plans while I'm in transition.

Random collection of things I noticed and immediately overthought while watching Coraline

I got to see Coraline in theatres for its 15th anniversary. It was amazing, if you can find a theatre near you that's playing it Go Watch It IT DESERVES THE BIG SCREEN SO MUCH. But anyway while I was watching it my little hamster brain kept noticing things and then ran around in circles on the drive home. So have some random observations.

I Cannot Eat and I Must Cook

The Other Mother is always cooking.  3 out of the 4 times Coraline goes to the Other world Other Mother is shown actively cooking.  Including after she’s gone full hangry and lost the plot.  The only time she’s not waiting for Coraline is her 3rd visit, and even then there’s a full spread of food waiting for her instead.  By this point my brain was fully spinning in little hamster ball circles thinking about idealized caricatures of mothers always cooking and the traditional jobs a mother’s ‘supposed’ to do.  But then on the drive home, I realized it was way simpler.  Coraline directly asks her real mom why she never cooks right in front of Little Me.  It’s literally just a direct response.

(Also, Other Wybie doesn't eat either, but that's cause his mouth literally can't open.)

Little Me's Fashion Choice

The Little Me doll wears a skirt!  When we first see real Coraline she’s in jeans.  The movie opens with them moving in and Wybie drops off the Little Me doll the next day, so there was no chance to see Coraline in anything other than jeans.  In fact we only see her in a skirt once, and that’s halfway through the movie in the clothes shopping scene.  But the Other Mother still puts Little Me in a skirt.  There’s this cool anniversary segment after the movie, and they showed some of the concept sketches for Coraline and she’s in a skirt in them, so that might be part of why Little Me’s in one, either as a nod or because the doll’s design was finalized before the costumes.  But looking at it through a strictly Watsonian reading, it makes sense that the Other Mother’s idea of proper clothes is more traditional.  She clearly adapts though, since Coraline’s star outfit has pants.

EYES

One of Wybie’s eye’s is bigger than the others.  This is mirrored in Other Wybie.

One of Charlie’s eye’s is higher than the other.  This is not mirrored in Other Father as far as I could tell.

I’ve seen others point out that Other Spink and Other Forcible have white buttons when they’re old and black buttons once they shed their skin and become young, as a reference to how the real Spink and Forcible can’t see well anymore.  But while the Others both get white buttons, only the real Miss Forcible has clouded eyes; Miss Spink’s eyes are still brown.

Coraline and Colors

Coraline’s favorite color is blue.  It’s the color of her hair, her fingernail polish, her comforter, her cyclops squid toy… But despite all this that’s not the color the movie associates with Coraline.  The movie actually associates Coraline with a whole bunch of warm, natural colors, mainly pinkish oranges.  Beyond that, there’s of course her iconic bright yellow rain coat of course, and a large spattering of mossy green.  Literally, the only time we don’t see her in warm colors is when she’s in the outfit Other Mother made her.  (Sidenote, what happened to her original clothes she changed out of?  Are they just gone forever in the Other world?).  To go full pretentious analysist, Coraline does seem to get a color for when she’s particularly closed off or guarded of this really desaturated grey tinged navy which is the color of both her jacket in the shopping scene and her vest when she’s squaring off.

Other Father’s smoking jacket/house coat is a red-orange, a little darker than most of Coraline’s clothes, fully falling in line with her colors rather than Other Mother’s pure red.  This doesn’t come from Charlie either, he’s in a green Michigan State sweatshirt pretty much the whole movie.  It’s a nice way to show his loyalty early (I know I’m not the first one to notice this, but it’s still neat.) The picture frame in her room of the goodbye picture is notably in Coraline’s orange with some kind of swirly pattern. The picture in the Other world has a different gold metal looking frame. Fancier, but more importantly not in Coraline’s colors anymore. Despite being copies of her friends the Other friends pressure Coraline to stay while she’s having her realization freak out. (Mention to young Other Spink and Other Forcible whose outfits are technically pink and green but slightly off from Coraline’s and by the time we see them again during the scavenger hunt the colors have shifted to really cold undertoned, almost unnatural shades of them.)

Mel is pretty much exclusively in cream to beige.  The only real color we see for her is her bag and jacket first seen in the shopping scene, both of which are in Coraline’s colors, if significantly more desaturated to fit her look better.  The car scene became really interesting to look at because Mel’s in Coraline’s colors while Coraline, in her dark jacket is visibly not for the first time in the movie.  Wybie’s grandma at the end of the movie is in a really soft yellow dress with an orange sash, neatly aligning her Coraline too, which is also really fun!

But the most interesting person, color wise is actually Wybie.  I’m serious, it’s really cool!  Wybie’s big color, is obviously black, and slivery-white as thanks to his helmet, gloves, and reflective patches.  Meanwhile Other Wybie is only associated with black since Other Mother’s ‘improvements’ sort of boy-next-doorified his grunge look.  He and Other Mother are really the only ones whose outfits (originally) mirror their counterparts.  What really makes it fun is Wybie’s secondary color.  Wybie’s bike, which makes two very memorable appearances, is bright red.  There is next to no true red in the real world until the ending scene.  Wybie’s colors are the exact same as the Other Mother’s.  And the only other color he has?  The creepy green light from his helmet, the same as the final fight with the Other Mother the mirror into the prison room makes when Other Mother (and Other Wybie) yank Coraline through it.

I'm alive, don't worry.

Uh, sorry for not posting since...

April 8th.

Excuse is simple: School. Finals are coming up and everyone and their mother is on the grind. So to compensate, I'll make a small post right now, as I'm in the midst of making a bigger one. I gotta study too, you know. But let's get into a quick ramble.

Something that always interested me about older Puyo games and Madou Monogatari as a whole is the constant change in designs that we got, notably Arle and Schezo. (Rulue sometimes as well, and Witch and Satan kinda rarely).

Take Puyo SUN, for example.

A good amount of these designs are pretty well known, from Schezo's white robe, to Satan's blue...clothing, to Arle and Rulue's (who's being blocked off but trust me) clothing. Very notable, yeah?

And then Puyo-N just changes things up a lot.

While some are mostly the same, others changed drastically, most notably Rulue, Satan, Schezo, and Witch. And while I prefer the Puyo-N designs compared to SUN, I do find it funny that the designs changed so much.

I think the one whose design changes the most was Schezo. He could NOT find a consistent fit to rock with for a bit, though different developers, games, time periods, etc go brrrr. It's also an excuse to post some cool stuff because this is my blog and I get to post what I think is cool as fuck. Notably, a lotta late Compile stuff had his armor as black at the very least.

We have his Tower of the Magician design, probably my favorite.

It's just so clean, and the yellow outlines on the armor honestly just seal the deal for me.

Then we have his Madou Saturn design.

I'd show Waku Puyo but quite literally...go through any of my posts and you'd probably find him, you'll be fine. The shoulderpads are funny to look at since they gave to every male with armor, (I'm serious. Lagnus, Satan, and Schezo,) but otherwise the design is good.

Then we have his current design and his Puyo 7 self.

Besides the fact that Schezo doesn't have his fingerless gloves in his PPT2 artwork, it's the current design we got, and also had for 15th and 20th Anniversary. Puyo 7 basically changed everyone's design once more for the better or worse, so there's that.

But I would be lying if I said the design wasn't cool as hell. And also gives me a reason to tell this one pet peeve.

So we did get a Puyo 7 design for Witch. Granted she was a cameo but we got a design nevertheless. So why wasn't it used alongside the others in Volume 3 of the Drama CD's alongside everyone else?

She's right there. But she's just in her regular outfit. Its such a small thing, but MAN it annoys me so much considering Ecolo got his older design.

But I think that about covers what I wanted to mention RQ. A bigger post is coming soon, trust me. Hope you enjoy the fit check I was basically doing.

Speaking about the loves of Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna, it is impossible to ignore this one. Probably, it was a very short infatuation – maybe just a WILLINGNESS to fall in love – but it was this feeling that had every chance of getting continued. After all, Olga finally liked an equal in position: the prince of a foreign power.

In December 1913, Olga realized that her "sun" was Pavel Voronov (more?) he does not reciprocate her, and made several emotional entries about him in his diary, using a secret cipher. His behavior confuses and worries her, feelings are looking for a way out... on December 21, the denouement follows: "I found out that my S. is marrying Olga Kleinmichel. God send him happiness, my beloved S. It's hard. Sadly. He would be pleased." Olga also encrypted this entry. It would seem that the time has come to immerse yourself in experiences for a long time, but after a few weeks the mysterious cipher appears in the diary again. And if earlier he hid only declarations of love for Voronov, now Olga writes about something else (further encrypted fragments are italicized): "January 12. Alexander Serbian arrived (In Russian uniform. Wow, what eyes). January 15th. At 9:00, my Dad and Aunt and I went to St. Petersburg for the consecration of the new church of the Fedorovskaya Mother of God in honor of the 300th anniversary. It lasted from 10 to 1 ¼. Metropolitan, etc. A bright, large, good church. I was standing next to Alexander the Serbian, he was a little further away. Wow, wow what. January 17th. He's leaving in 2-3 days, it's a pity, dear."

Alexander Karageorgievich was 7 years older than Olga. He had a lot to do with Russia: he had Russian tutors, was the godson of Alexander III and the named son of Nicholas II; studied at the School of Jurisprudence and in the Page Corps in St. Petersburg.  He became heir to the throne in 1909, after his elder brother George was forced to give up his rights to the throne under the pressure of a scandal. In the same year, Alexander almost asked for the hand of Princess Tatiana Konstantinovna. The Serbian minister and even the father-king personally made a cautious reconnaissance on this matter. But to the Konstantinovichs, the position of the Karageorgievich dynasty on the throne seemed too shaky. K.R., Tatiana's father, wrote in his diary: "I told her in detail about the claims of the Serbian court and about the reasons prompting us to advise her to refuse this offer. Although she rather likes Sandro Serbian, she did not hesitate to give him up." However, a year later the families still became related: Alexander's sister Elena married Grand Duke John Konstantinovich. For the Karageorgievichs, this was a great success, because they took the throne only in 1903 by a coup. In Europe, they were not really recognized, and not all Romanovs were disposed to them. In 1912-13, Alexander managed to show valor in the Balkan wars. And then he thought about getting married again, but now he was interested in the daughter of the tsar himself. ONLY WHICH ONE?

In this newspaper for November 1913, it was suggested that Olga would become the wife of Alexander of Serbia, and Tatiana – Karol of Romania. On the other hand, the English Wikipedia, with reference to Serbian archives, assures that Prime Minister Nikola Pasic wrote to Nicholas II in January 1914 about Alexander's intention to marry one of the Grand duchesses. Nikolai did not object and even noticed the interest that his daughter showed in the prince – but it was allegedly not Olga, but Tatiana. (And Russian Wikipedia generally assures: "Tatiana and Alexander wrote letters to each other until their death. When Alexander found out about Tatiana's murder, he was confused and almost committed suicide").Alexander's sister Elena, in her memoirs, which I have not yet been able to find, seemed to say that she noticed some "chemistry" between Alexander and Olga. Well, Olga's diary allows us to conclude that Alexander was not indifferent to her, and I think the Serbian heir himself paid attention to her.  You can only guess what prevented you from taking the next step.In the spring, Olga is fond of Molokhovets, then the war begins, but all this does not prevent her from remembering Alexander on various occasions:"February 24.At 12 o'clock my mother received the Bavarian, Belgian, Danish and Serbian envoys (Nalajovic. So reminds Alexander C).February 25.(in small print: I haven't seen Alexander for a month since)March 25.I haven't seen Alexandra for 2 months. <...>(added, apparently, later) I haven 't seen Alexander S. for 2 months .September 4.The Pope gave Alexander of Serbia the St. George Cross 4 art . I am very happy. God help me.October 6.John, Gabriel and Kostya and Elena had lunch. They told me a lot of interesting things. She's a piece of Alexander, and I love her.October 16.At 7 o'clock we went to the infirmary with Mom, we went to everyone, and talked to K. and I. in the corridor. Everyone knows Alexander by his body."

Alexander was a thin brunette with a mustache and large facial features (and with "WOW" eyes) – this is exactly the type of appearance that has always attracted Olga. Besides, apparently, he was a really nice person. "The prince turned out to have a kind and friendly character," writes the grandson of his tutor, the famous priest Gleb Kaleda. "To please his tutor, the prince wrote to him in Russian, asking for forgiveness in advance for possible mistakes, although there were none." He was remembered as a tactful person, sometimes shy and prone to melancholy, a lover of reading – there is some similarity with Olga's character.Olga did not see Alexander again, but a year later she noted in her diary the anniversary of his arrival:"January 12, 1915.The year that I saw Alexander at Vsevolod's christening.January 15th.The year is consecrated. churches. Alexander.January 17th.Mordvinov and Count Fredericks were having breakfast. And a year ago Alexander. God bless him."It seems that even in the spring of 1916, Pasic expressed the hope that Olga would become the Serbian queen. But in January of this year, the date of the meeting with Alexander was not noted in the diary. At this time, Olga hardly thought about anyone other than Dmitry Shah-Bagov. (By the way, here her fate again intersects with the fate of Tatiana Konstantinovna, who was very friendly with the elder daughters of Nicholas II. Instead of the Serbian prince, she married a simple Caucasian officer for love, and he even served in the Erivan regiment – like Olga's lover. Because She even knew Shah Bagov and calls him a "cute, cute boy" in a letter. Surely Olga was thinking about what could repeat her path).But in 1917 Olga remembers again:"January 17th. Olga Nikolaevna's biographers like to repeat that she wanted to stay in Russia, so she did not marry the Romanian heir Karol. The interest in Alexander the Serbian shows that, most likely, it was not in the country: it was just Karol who was unsympathetic to Olga. I think she understood that sooner or later she would have to leave her homeland. It is unlikely that the rumors had passed her by, she knew who her husbands were supposed to be, and she did not mind falling in love with a cute Orthodox prince. Maybe by the beginning of 17, she returned to thinking about him because someone had dispelled her hopes for a happy morganatic marriage? Although what could be a wedding when the revolution is already at the threshold. What kind of fate would await her in a small semi-literate kingdom, forever torn apart from the outside and from the inside?Alexander married in 1922 the sister of the same Karol (there is a version that he dragged on for so long, because until then he did not believe in the death of Olga).  It seems that he became a good family man, ruled his country for more than 10 difficult years. Yugoslavia in the 20s became a fragment of the Russian Atlantis, the center of white emigration. Sometimes there is an opinion that Alexander was so supportive of Russian refugees in memory of his first love – "Olga/Tatiana." But I think Russia meant a lot to him anyway. Alexander was killed in 1934 by a terrorist, his family fled the Nazis during the war and never returned to their homeland. Well, instead of Maria, Olga could become a Romanian widow and exile… No matter how her fate turned out, it would not be easy. The time of the Slavic monarchs has passed.

Coraline Review (Warning: Potential Spoilers)

To celebrate its 15th Anniversary, I will review one of my favourite films Coraline. The film was released in 2009 by Laika as its first film and directed by Henry Selick of Nightmare Before Christmas fame (another one of my favourite films). The film was an adaptation of a book by Neil Gaiman that was released in 2002. When I first watched it, I did have the often joked-about childhood scares from some of the more disturbing imagery, definitely didn't help my fear of needles. But enjoying the effort and beauty of the film always reduces the fear to me. Being able to rewatch it in remastered 3D was glorious and something I highly recommend to any fan of the film, really helps highlight particular scenes. So let's walk through the tiny door and into the world of Coraline.

One of my favourite types of films and film effects is stop-motion animation with some favourite film studios being the aforementioned Laika alongside Aardman of Wallace & Gromit fame. The care and skill it takes at every step of production is something I could never take for granted when watching the films and behind-the-scenes features. Every detail is finely crafted to build the world of the film with features such as the Jones family portrait which reveals Coraline to share her mother's black hair. Even this detail alone has many strands behind it regarding the initial character design of Coraline, originally making her have blue streaks rather than a full blue head of hair, as well as in-film showing the disconnect between her and her parents. To me, the animation in the film is gorgeous and was a perfect medium for the story in my opinion.

One of the first things I prioritise and appreciate when engaging with media is the characters. To me, if there isn't a single character I like, it's a pass for me. Fortunately, Coraline does its characters justice in my eyes. With intriguing designs and brilliant chemistry and dynamics between them. A good example being the Amazing Bobinksy/Mr B. At first glance his blue skin seems odd considering everyone else has realistic skin tones. But the medal helps put a perspective on it. It is believed that Mr B is a survivor of Chernobyl which explains the skin along with the medal, a medal of honour. My top 3 favourites are Coraline, the Cat, and the Beldam/Other Mother. To begin with, I enjoy Coraline's spunky personality, shown through her headstrong attitude and sarcastic remarks, is something I enjoy. There is also her intellect and quick planning as seen with her final stand off with the Beldam. For the cat I am a huge cat lover since I grew up with them. The voice acting by Keith David helps bring the cat a mysterious but cocky presence. Even when he's a simple cat that doesn't speak, you can still tell his personality through his actions alongside the adherence to following cat behaviours such as slow blinks. The Beldam is one of my favourite villains of all time for how effective she is in her role. She is able to pose a genuine threat towards our hero alongside portraying a genuine threat to.the audience. Cause to me, she is an example I would use when warning others of predators and manipulators. Not all predators have to be outwardly creepy, sometimes a friendly face can be more dangerous. I also adore her design and how it gradually shifts through each visit. Each time we see her we can see her become more spider-like before her actual reveal which I enjoy as someone who loves rewatches.

When it comes to the story of Coraline, it is a simple yet effective one. The message I gain from the film is being able to appreciate what you have yet not be shamed for wanting change. Coraline starts the film with distance between her and her parents, struggling to find her place in a new place and situation. She feels she doesn't fit in. But from her journey in the film she grows to see it in a new way, ironically from the wonders the Other Mother created. By the end she starts connecting with her parents and the neighbours, realising that she could help bring the change she originally wanted at the start.

To be honest, I don't have a lot of personal critiques to the film. More just small nitpicks. When reading the book a reference is made towards a creature that lurks within the doorway between the worlds, something more malevolent and older than the Beldam. A hint towards it would have been an enjoyable nod towards book readers.

But in conclusion, I adore this film and I don't think I could ever get tired of it. The mystical soundtrack and gorgeous art style will be stuck in my head. I would always recommend Coraline as a film to watch to newbies or as a Halloween flick. Hope you guys enjoyed reading and staying positive!

Summary: When Sam died the first time, Dean brought him back to life. He didn't tell me about the deal he made with that demon until Sam forced him to tell me. We all knew that Dean only had one year left to live, and we all tried to prevent that from happening. The second time Sam was attacked by a demon close to Lilith and fought against it. he lost. 

One year after Sam’s mysterious death weird things are happening and I realize things are not as they seem.

Authors Note: this story takes place post season 3(with the exceptional flashbacks to the past), difference being Sam died and Dean never went to hell. we experience the story through the eyes a female hunter who went to Stanford with Sam and joined Sam and Dean in their revenge quest after jess’s death.     she is Deans girlfriend but there are things happening with Sam as well.

Introduction

My name is Diana Beck. You can call me Dee. I am 26 years old and currently live in Springfield, Philadelphia.

Maybe I'm better known as Dean Winchester's girlfriend.

Dean and I have been dating for over a year, and we live together in a two story house.

I really love Dean. He's my best friend, the best lover I've ever had, and we were meant to be together or whatever other nonsense you want to call it.

And Dean loves me more than I love him.

It's a little scary, because since his brother's death, Dean just doesn't love.

But when the yellow-eyed demon intervened, everything fell apart. Sam abandoned Stanford, abandoned me, and went to seek revenge with his brother.

Sam's death was not the only death of a loved one I experienced in my short life. My hunter father died when I was 18, and I cut ties with my mother when I left home and went to college.

I met Sam four years ago, at Stanford University.

We were the best of friends, two weirdo hunters in an academy of normals. We recognized the signs in each other, and connected immediately.

We always had deep feelings for each other, both when he had Jessica and when I became Dean's girlfriend. But it was complicated.

Things got better when he found Jessica, he really felt like he was happy and found his place. 

When Sam died the first time, Dean brought him back to life. 

I didn't give up on him, I followed him on his journey, and that's actually how I got to know Dean. It didn't take long for me to fall in love with him. And Sam watched from the sidelines, grieving, lost, yearning for revenge for the death of his lover, the death of his future.

It took a while but he finally accepted that I was hunting with them, and eventually understood that Dean and I were together.

But it doesn't matter now.

December 15th will be the anniversary of his death.

He didn't tell me about the deal he made with that demon until Sam forced him to tell me. We all knew that Dean only had one year left to live, and we all tried to prevent that from happening.

The second time Sam was attacked by a demon close to Lilith and fought against it. he lost.

In the first few months, I had to stop Dean all too often from trying to bring Sam back to life. He would run away from my watch, trying to make deals with demons, summoning witches, performing dark spells and what not. I knew that if he succeeded, it meant that he himself would die.

I looked after him twenty-four hours a day, we fought, shouted and cried, until he realized he had to give up.

Dean has lost everything he has. One after the other, and it just kept getting worse.

Even if I could, I would never want to fathom the amount of pain that Dean went through in his life. And what's more, I'll never be able to understand how he just got back on his feet and went on living. I think it was, mainly, thanks to his brother.

Sam's death, that was what broke him.

Dean cried. Oh yes, tough, strong, not emotional Dean cried, for days and weeks.

This was not the Dean that everyone knew, and they were afraid - no one knows how to comfort the inconsolable.

So they all just disappeared. Everyone except me.

I was the one who stood next to him at the funeral, following with my gaze at the tears that flowed from his gorgeous green eyes. He refused to burn Sam’s body so we buried him a beautiful green field next to Bobby’s house.

I was the one sleeping next to him in bed in the days that followed.

I remember that sometimes Dean would get up and go to the kitchen so that I wouldn't wake up as he tried to drink himself to death.

And when I woke up, I would follow him down the stairs after a few minutes, and he would soak my shoulders with tears and unnecessary questions of "what if?"

I just ran my fingers through his hair and kept quiet.

And then the nightmares began. A lot of nightmares. He would moan and call Sam's name every night, along with mumbling apologies and self-loathing. I never told him that. I didn't think it was necessary.

I would just cling to him long enough for him to wake up with heavy breathing. After a few seconds he would tighten his arms around me, and I would listen to the rapid rhythm of his heartbeat until he calmed down again and fell asleep.

Things have changed now. Dean no longer has nightmares, and he doesn't cry.

He didn't cry when Jo died, he didn't cry when Bella was dragged to Hell, where he was supposed to be.

He was too busy finding the same demon that killed Sam and killing it himself. He is still busy with it.

Dean also stopped loving. He stopped trusting people but himself. He shut himself up and only himself.

Like old Dean, only worse.

Chapter 1

That's why the fact that he loves me so much is a little scary.

I guess he's just afraid of losing me too.

It's 8:30 in the morning and Dean is driving me to work in his black Impala.

My part-time job, what I do besides hunting demons and spirits is taking and editing photos for the local newspaper. I'm pretty good at it, to be honest.

"Hey, Dee," Dean said as he drove.

"Yes?" I answered, flipping through the photos of the soccer player I took yesterday.

"Are you going to work late tonight?" He asked.

"No." I replied curtly and added, "Why?"

Dean didn't answer. The truth is I know exactly why. Today is the 14th of December.

“I'll be home by five thirty." I added softly as Dean parked the car. I leaned close to him and kissed him a little longer than the usual ‘bye’ kiss, just to show him I was here. I knew he would understand. That's what I love about us - we have our own ways of understanding each other. without words.

"Bye, baby." He said quietly and I got out of the car towards the building where my office is. My office was on the third floor out of seven, and it was small but comfortable. The walls were painted light purple and there was a picture of me, Dean and Sam on the desk, drinking beers and smiling. Happier days. I placed my things on the table and sat in my chair. Today I have to edit the photos I took yesterday. 

I hardly had time to turn on the computer and the door was already opened.

 "Good morning," said Ben. Ben is my co-worker, and a good friend of mine.

"Morning." I replied. 

Ben leaned forward on my desk. "What do we have today?" he asked with a smile. I never understood how he could be happy in the morning.

"Some pictures of the soccer player, what's his name. And editing." I sighed. I didn't have much patience for work today. I wondered how Dean was.

"Great. Coffee?" He handed me a cup of coffee in addition to the one he had in his hand.

"Thanks, Ben." I smiled at him gratefully and took the cup, sipping it slowly. 2 coffee, half sugar. Just the way I like it. I took my camera and took a picture of Ben sipping his coffee, without him noticing. I like to take pictures like this - secret, completely random; of the people I love.

"So what are your plans for the weekend?" Ben asked with a mischievous grin, as if he had something to offer up his sleeve.

"Nothing." I answered. "And I'm not going to plan anything either." I said, canceling his offer before he even offered it.

His face fell a little flat and he raised his eyebrow. "Why?"

I took another sip of the coffee. "Tomorrow is the anniversary of Sam's death." I answered slowly.

"And that means that...?"

"That means me and Dean are going to sit at home all day and drink our feelings away."

"Charming."

"Yes."I didn't show my feelings surrounding Sam's death to Ben. Although my heart almost threatened to explode with grief. I just don't like showing emotions very much. But some people just read me. People like Ben, Dean, and Sam.Dean reads me best. Sam was right after him on the list. I glanced over to watch a frozen-in-time Sam smiling at me from the framed photo. I felt my eyes water and I swallowed hard, trying to ignore the lump at my throat. Ben leaned forward and kissed me on the cheek. It was a good, comforting feeling. I smiled a little.

"So, what are your plans? Another wild dance party until morning?" I asked.

Ben shook his head. "No. Drake is a douchebag. He wants to stay at the office for the weekend. That's why I wanted you to come with me."

Ben is gay. a complete loss for women kind. Raven black hair, blue eyes and a body to die for. One sweet dimple on his left cheek. eye candy. 

"Ow," I chuckled. "Looks like the party animal is going to stay home and watch gay porn all night."

"Ha-ha."

I opened the door to mine and Dean's house at a quarter to seven. Dean was on the couch, watching TV and eating pizza. I smiled.

"Thanks for waiting for my dinner, honey." I said sarcastically.

"Yeah, thanks for being late." He called out to me.

I walked towards the couch and sat next to him. He was watching some kind of drama series about a hospital. typical.

"Sorry Babe. I was hungry." He added softly. When I could clearly see his face, I noticed a large, swollen bruise under his left eye and another small wound under his lip. I wasn’t surprised. This happened often. 

"Who did we fight today?" I asked.

"She was a ghost," he said, spitting out food as he did so. "A teen girl."

I laughed. "A little girl beat you up."

"She was 15!" He defended himself. "And she was taller than you."

I rested my head on his shoulder. He got the hint and raised his hand so I could lean on his chest and he wrapped his arm around me in a warm hug. I took a pizza slice from the two he left for me from the entire tray. He ate everything else.

"How do you manage to eat so much and stay so fit? You don't even go to the gym. Tell me the secret."

"It’s the constant fear and near death experiences, keeps me young.” we both laughed, light hearted but with a slight weird edge to it. “You don't need to lose weight. You're so hot the way you are." he said, running his fingers through my hair."

You meant to say 'beautiful'."

"Obviously." 

We stayed like that in front of the TV for quite some time, talking about nothing. We didn't talk about Sam. We postponed it  as much as possible. I gave up and went to bed before Dean. He said he would come soon. I lay on my back with my eyes open towards the ceiling. I knew I wouldn't be able to sleep until Dean came. Usually this wasn't a big problem. Tonight is yes.

I stayed like that for a while until Dean came in, drops of water dripping from his hair.He climbed onto his side of the bed and I turned to him, the white of his eyes standing out in the darkness. I saw everything in them, and I didn't like what I saw. 

"Don't let it take you away again, Dean." I said in a whisper, touching his face lightly. He closed his eyes.

"I won't," he replied. It could not be put off any longer. "Even if I did, you'd be here to slap me in the face and tell me to pull myself together, wouldn't you?" He smiled but it was not a pleasant smile. 

I remembered Sam's smile. He had a wonderful smile, the kind of smiles that light you up from the inside and melt you completely. That smile died along with Sam. I missed him so much. I nodded and leaned forward a little, kissing Dean’s soft lips. I could feel the wound on the side of his lip.

"Good night, Dee." he whispered.

"Good night." I replied, and we both fell asleep in this position, only a breath away from each other.

That night Dean called Sam's name in his sleep again.

(...I left my third film class and walked slowly down the Stanford halls, heading out onto the lawn.

It was my first week at university, my first attempt at living a normal life. I wasn't going to give up the hunting life, but I really liked taking pictures, and I wanted to feel what it was like to live like everyone else, and not like a freak of nature.

Although most of the time I felt out of place and stressed, I hoped it would get better.

I sat down on the grass and skimmed over the notes I had written in class, but I was in no mood for learning anymore.

I took my camera out of my bag and observed my surroundings. I took casual pictures; A student reading a book, girls who chattered and laughed, a bird looking for food crumbs in the grass.

I looked back at the student I had photographed. He was sitting a few feet away from me on the lawn reading a law textbook.

For some reason he seemed interesting to me. He had bright turquoise eyes and slightly messy brown hair. He seems disconnected from the environment, but it is evident that he feels comfortable where he is.

Suddenly he looked up and looked at me, as if he felt that I was staring at him. I looked away almost immediately; I didn't want to look weird already in my first week.

After a few seconds I looked at him again, just to make sure he wasn't too weirded-out. He was already back reading the book, smiling to himself as he did.

He had that smile. Really bright, like it could light up a room.  If there is something I liked about people, especially men, it was their smiles.

I smiled to myself and went back to reviewing my notes, not really concentrating on them anymore.)

Angélique Kidjo Enters A New Era With Sunlight To My Soul

Angélique Kidjo is back with the Diane Warren-penned "Sunlight To My Soul." Afrobeats producer Shizzi is also part of the collaboration, with his supply of traditional African rhythms and supporting vocals from the Soweto Gospel Choir. The video celebrates life with dancing, hugs, and plenty of smiles from Kidjo and her dancers. The international singing icon released her 15th studio album, Mother Nature, in 2021. She collaborated with young African artists on MH, including Burna Boy, Mr. Eazi, and Yemi Alade. In 2023, she celebrated a four-decade career by kicking off a 40th-anniversary concert tour. Earlier this year, she debuted her new African Symphony project with arranger Derrick Hodge at the Kennedy Center.  "Sunlight In My Soul" begins a new era for Kidjo, who hails from Benin.  Kidjo is starting her next international tour on July 14th, which is also her birthday. Q: You cut your hair.

SY: It’s not my first time having short hair. I had long hair for a long time because it looks new on me. It’s been 5 years since. I was a little down when I cut my hair. It’s like a part of my body has been taken away from me. It felt like everything I wore won’t look good but now that I got used to it, I’m not sure if I can go back to long hair.

 2. Q: This year is special for you. Girls’ Generation complete members promotions for 15th year anniversary, drama “If You Wish Upon Me”, followed by drama “Fan Letter Please” that talks about fan letters to end the year.

SY: It’s lucky for me to be able to act in two dramas in a year. I have a lot of chance to communicate with fans this year and it feels like the last puzzle has been matched, after being able to act in a drama that have relations with fans.

3. Q: In the drama, you acted as top star Kanghee, which is really close to you. When you were acting, is there any embarrassing or candid moments that reminds you of yourself?

SY: It is a character that I’m very familiar with. I can know what thoughts I have while talking, what kind of expressions, what kind of feelings straight away. I understand the character deeply until the director said “I didn’t knew that the character will be in this pain in this situation.” Since this job is a job that will be talked around by people, it’s really easy to get misunderstood by people. What we said or did without much thought in past will be brought up. Whenever that happens, I thought “Even I can’t say no to this?” (laugh). Kanghee is a friend who is used to those situations and she didn’t get affected. I think I’m not the type who explains myself, talks about my hard times or family problems. Of course, Kanghee and I are different but while acting as her, I felt a little freedom. I tried to melt down my humane side, worries and also my unattractive side.

4. Q: Do you write letters frequently in real life?

SY: On Tiffany’s birthday this year, I made a big decision and bought her something that she wanted for a long time. But she was sad that there wasn’t any letters. There’s at least some people around me that want to receive letters, even my mother. I have bad handwriting so whenever I write lyrics or any writings, I used iPad to write (laugh). Since they want to receive it, so I wrote for them. When I write to express myself, I don’t write formally like “congratulations” and “stay healthy”. I want to put my real sincerity in it so if I’m going to write, I won’t write two three words on the card. 

5. Q: I’m sure you received a lot of fan letters like Kanghee. Is there any special writing that stays in your heart?

SY: I keep the letter that I received after the filming for “Fan Letter Please” in my bag and bring it around with me. Girls’ Generation promotions and the filming for this drama overlaps so I was really tired physically. I was worried if I could show my best for the filming that all the staffs and I put everything in. I went to the after party while feeling sorry and weirdly, the youngest filming staff that my eyes always went to her came to me and put something on my hands. It was folded into a heart shape and after unfolding it, it’s a letter filled with sincerity. She said that she went through growing pains with unnies and now that she has grown up, she said that she thought she want to protect and cheer for unnies now. She joined the filming team as the youngest member and everything was foreign to her. The only familiar existence in the filming set is unnie and it was weirdly comforting to her. I cried. I thought that she saw me in my worst condition. Fans don’t just write “I love you” and “thank you”. Their world is in the letter together with the sincere and pretty words that they thought deeply of.

6. Q: There’s a strength to make even those who wasn’t a fan of Girls’ Generation to reminisce about the past.

SY: I was curious how the old fans know my feelings and worries even though we’ve never drink (alcohol) and talk freely together before. I get curious of the cultures of the current generation. It’s nice to have a platform you can influence people with different type of cultures but sometimes, I feel like commons I have with the generation above me has lost as the mainstreams has changed. That’s why I said felt affection and sometimes feels choked up when I watched our promotions.

 7. Q: Your debut song “Into The New World” feels like a cheering song for the girls. Even hearing it after 15 years, it felt like the courage when I was a girl is boiling again.

SY: The lyrics “Please protect the love that will never change, even my scarred heart” is the frame for the latest Girls’ Generation’s promotion. Even the stage for the title song of this album is “Forever 1” has the feelings of “I’m still the same, standing here” but amazingly, I saw the comment, “The song is saying that we are still here without any changes” and got goosebumps. I was excited that our sincerity matched and I felt joy after a long time.  

 8. Q: Do you have any ways to maintain and protect Girls’ Generation’s fans and also the people around you?

SY: I think I just cherish myself. When you put others first, your energy will be drained. When someone tells me their worries, sometimes, I don’t have the energy to listen to them. I don’t want to hurt them so I tried to take some time to charge myself. That’s why I like to be alone and I don’t rush into relationships (in general). But once I get into a relationship (in general), I want it to last long and deeply. I heard this advice at counseling when I was tired from human relationships. When an airplane gets into accident. And emergency oxygen masks are given, who should wear it first? The answer is wearing it yourself first and then help the person next to you. I found self-esteem and fully energized when I have the experience to take the lead when I’m with the members or alone. That’s why we can get together, cherish, take care of each other and also yield each other. In order to protect something precious, you need the time to cherish yourself too.

 9. Q: It’s a process that companied by intense process of loving oneself. You looked like you have no worries as you look cheerful when you’re promoting as a team or actor without any boundaries.

SY: I have times when I doubted myself, “I don’t think I need to be a good person to everyone”. In the past, I always have the thought that when I got cursed, I won’t be the only one who got cursed, members will get it too. But nowadays, the members said that “I hope I will be able to hear what people cursed about you. I want to hear some rumors of how you are doing on the filming set.” It was a joke but it make us take care of ourselves more. Girls’ Generation’s members has been promoting as a team for a long time so, consideration and responsibility are basic for us. If we want to take care of everything while paying attention to everything, we won’t be able to concentrate in our job. Even if you got misunderstood for having a bad expression for a second, but putting on good works and results will let the staff’s job end early (laugh). It’s better to save energy and be faithful to the role given to me than gnawing at myself while trying to be a good person to the majority people.

10. Q: In your previous drama “If You Wish Upon Me”, your co-actor Ji Chang Wook said that “Sooyoung is affectionate and friendly to everyone”. In dramas “My Spring Days” and “Run On”, you played roles that are clumsy but has a warm heart.

SY: It’s the filming site of “If You Wish Upon Me” that made me affectionate (laugh). When I was choosing a work, I looked at the life that was represented from the characters. I focus on expressing that there’s this type of people in the world. Even if the script is fun, but if the female character is being wasted, I don’t get attracted by it. There’s always friends that got kicked away. I can’t ignore it and I want to hold it onto the heart.

11. Q: Today’s pictorial concept was to show Sooyoung’s coolness. When were the times you think you are cool?

SY: When I don’t forget what the people I love said and do for them, when I do things I’m supposed to do silently. I do have some laziness side of me (laugh).

12. Q: It’s the coolness of people who debuted 15 years ago (laugh). You said that “it’s better to live with what you’ve went through” for the life in your thirties?  What kind of strength does your experience gave you?

SY: You will have weapons to take with you. Since I went through it, I think I have the strength to predict the results of it.

13. Q: There’s a lot of juniors who stated Girls’ Generation as their role model for their achievement point. What do you want them to “bring” with them?

SY: People, taking care of people’s heart, it’s an easy generation where a relationship is broken, it’s fast to get over it and it’s also easy to accept something new. It’s good to brush away the relationships that you got hurt from and find new person. “Cutting ties” with someone also means taking care of myself. There must be some good times in between all the hurts and conflicts. If you felt thankful to that person at least once and once thought that you want to take care of that person, even if the situation has changed, go until the end with sincerity and it will last long. I am like this.

14. Q: Something that Choi Sooyoung wants to get eagerly now?

SY: To be able to satisfy my desire as an actress in short period of time. It’s the time where I’m worry about having methods to be able to act till the point I’m satisfied while making good changes to it.  I think the drama I’m currently filming and works that I will be choosing in the future will help me to grow nearer towards my goal and I will do it if it helps me to grow.

15. Q: The sun is setting so it’s getting colder. What kind of winter are you preparing for?

SY: I think many things that happened gave me heartache. It’s a season where I’m thankful that I’m be able to do what I likes and also eat what I want to eat. It’s my 15th anniversary since debut and it’s a special year for both Girls’ Generation and me as an actress but it makes me sorry as an adult that there are people who are suffering. Even though I can’t be very helpful but I have the thought of wanting to be an adult where people could lean on me.

 

16. Q: The young girl has become an adult.

SY: I felt that too when I saw young girls using “Into The New World” as their cheering song. The way they thought of Girls’ Generation’s existence makes me an adult. I have the reason not to do anything that I will be embarrassed of and also the thought of I have to do anything as an adult. This year, just like how I want to have a drink with our fans, I want to listen to other’s stories that live outside my boundaries too.

In the first chap of swallowsongs it's written baby Aly will turn 5.

Baelon canonically passes in 101. Which means there's still hope, yes? Please say yes.

Maybe I'm living in my own land of delusions. Where they live a happy beautiful life. Where Viserra finally gets the life she deserves. A Baelon's death is not what she deserves.

In my head Baelon becomes King after Jaehaerys. They rule together.

Aemma lives, asks Viserys to wait for more kids, (I think she's rather scared of pregnancy, because of her mother). Viserys has an affair with Alicent. Aemma asks Baelon for the marriage to be set aside. Viserys marries Alicent. Their kids are born. Baelon kind of upset by the whole situation names Rhaenyra his heir.

This is being fully delusional.

Also in a previous post you mentioned, your brother was getting married. How was the wedding?
