Here’s the final post about my Butterfly and Moth Automaton Music Box. This one focuses on the moth. The cercopia moth or robin moth, is the largest moth in North America. This specimen was provided to my by the client. Since there were no repair issues (unlike the butterfly) I’ll explain a little more about the process of making it fly. First I took a photo with the exact ratio (see 2nd slide). I cut it out, separating the wings and the body (3rd slide). I put a piece of tape to reconnect the pieces (4th slide). I used the paper moth as a guid to build the flying apparatus. Once I’ve tested the mechanics to make sure everything runs smoothly, I then added the real moth and adorned it with brass filigree and a rhodilte gemstone (1st slide).
