Since you are Canadian, can you tell us some fun facts about Canada that non-Canadians might not know?
I’m not entirely Sure what non-Canadians might know abt Canada but I’ll Try anyway
So yknow Tim Horton’s? Named after an Actual Guy, a hockey player, in fact! From what I know he didn’t play for Canada long, and was moved to an American team (bc we like. share a hockey league) but Canadians Loved this guy. I’m not sure How the restaurant chain got named after him exactly, since this stuff was a Bit before my time dgdfgdfg Anyway Tim Horton’s is a Big part of Canadian culture, kinda up there w Hockey and beavers. A good way to start a fight w a Canadian is insisting that Timbits Aren’t “Timbits” but in fact “doughnut holes” and that they’re Saying it Wrong
Also abt Hockey, while it Is a big thing here, it’s not our national sport! Our national sports are Lacrosse and Ringette
The stereotype that Canadians are nice and polite is a Fucking Lie. We’re just as bad as Americans but we’re not that up front abt it (yes, this includes racism). Also we live next to America, which kinda makes us look nicer in comparison lol
Opossums are only native to like One part of Canada, and that’s in Central Southern BC
Our current Prime Minister, Trudeau, is a performative piece of shit. He’ll go march in protests to show “support” but not Do anything outside of that. Don’t be fooled by his prettyboy facade
A lot of Canadians, including myself, do say “Eh” (although some Don’t bc it’s not part of their vernacular/they don’t want to be seen as a stereotype bc ppl (Americans) have made fun of us for it) (also I say it frequently irl but don’t online bc “eh” can easily be misconstrued as “eh” as in “meh” ond not “eh” as in “ay”)
“Eh” is a versatile little word, it’s mostly used in place of “what”/”come again?”/”y’know?” or just used to make a question or statement sound less firm, i.e., “they said it’s going to rain today, eh?” or “take the trash on your way out, eh?” That being said, it is informal so you won’t typically see it on like. signs and stuff (outside of like ads)
Packaging for p much everything is in both English and (Quebecois) French
Canadian French (Quebecois French) is different from Metropolitan French (France French). From what I know Quebecois French has a lot more archaic terms and is more slangy, and also Quebecois will speak French w you even if you’re bad w it, while French ppl will stop and just start speaking to you in English bc they don’t like hearing their mother tongue butchered
And that’s p much all I can think of. However, this isn’t a definitive list since our country is multicultural and I’m a white person living in BC, so my view is gonna be different than others
Also you should try Nanaimo Bars. They’re yummy
