Ziqitza Rajasthan – Why is National Dengue Day observed?
National Dengue Day is observed every year on May 16th in India under the recommendation of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The day is observed to generate awareness about dengue fever and to promote and intensify the measures to control the spread of the disease.
Ziqitza Healthcare explains that Dengue fever is a tropical disease and is mosquito-borne. The disease is caused by the virus called dengue. The disease has a gestation period of thirteen to fourteen days and the symptoms typically do not appear before that. The dengue fever symptoms include vomiting, high fever, headache, joint aches etc and the person suffering from dengue develops a characteristic skin rash peculiar to dengue only. The recovery time usually ranges between two to seven days, however, in rare scenarios, the disease develops into a more severe dengue hemorrhagic fever. Ziqitza further explains that the dengue hemorrhagic fever could lead to bleeding, lower count of blood platelets, low blood pressure and other fatal symptoms.

REPORT THIS AD
Ziqitza Healthcare ltd further elaborates that dengue is spread by several species of female mosquitoes belonging to Aedes genus, more specifically Aedes aegypti. The virus is classified into five different kinds of serotypes. If you’re infected by one type, you develop lifelong immunity to that type, however, short-term immunity to other types. A subsequent infection from different types increases the chances of developing severe and fatal complications.
India experiences a large amount of dengue cases during the transmission seasons. In the year 2017, Tamil Nadu reported the maximum number of dengue cases. The state was followed by Kerala, Karnataka, Punjab, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, Haryana, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, Delhi and other states. Ziqitza Rajasthan stresses on the World Health Organisation’s report that the incidences of dengue has increased exponentially around the world. WHO estimates that the world experiences on average a 100-400 million cases of infection every year.
Dengue is potentially a fatal disease and is most commonly found in tropical and subtropical climates. While the country is dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, Ziqitza Limited lays out that it is absolutely imperative that serious measures are undertaken to prevent concurrent outbreak of dengue. The cases of dengue follow a seasonal pattern and typically rise between July to November. ZHL Rajasthan asserts that timely preventive measures can play an efficient role in curbing the spread of dengue fever.
Removal of stagnant water: The Aedes mosquito responsible for transmitting the dengue fever breeds in stagnant water, and this is the precise reason why dengue cases catapults during monsoons. Exposed flower vases, water containers, pots, buckets etc must be cleaned regularly and replaced with fresh water. One must use larvicides when possible to kill the larvae of the Aedes mosquito. Exposed containers with stagnant water must be kept covered always in order to prevent the infestation.
Keep hands and legs covered: One must always keep their hands and legs covered during the season time of the dengue. Proper coverage of hands and legs can prevent mosquito bites. One should avoid using aromatic perfumes and soaps etc and must apply a generous amount of mosquito repellants when stepping outside. Ziqitza Limited Rajasthan further advises that during monsoons, one must avoid dengue hotspots and areas where water gets accumulated.
Keep your homes safe from mosquitos: Not just outside, one must keep their guard on even inside the house against the mosquitoes. Window screens and other structural barriers must be installed at homes to stop mosquitoes from entering the house. If using a mosquito net, then it must be insecticide treated. Over the counter available coils and vaporisers are effective against mosquitoes, they can also be used inside houses lest you are not allergic to them.
Responsible waste segregation: Practising separate disposal of dry waste and wet waste is not just an eco-friendly practice, but is also crucial to curtail the spread of dengue. Wet garbage offers perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes. Responsible segregation and disposal of wet waste ensures safety of all stakeholder involved in waste handling.
National Dengue Day is an affirmative step taken by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to create awareness about dengue fever and promote preventive measures to curb the spread of the disease and outbreaks. Ziqitza Health care limited notes that the observance is a constructive effort to mobilise state government, civic bodies, nonprofits to improve the country’s preparedness and vigilance against dengue. Preventive measures are necessary to curb the outbreak of diseases and to not put extra avoidable burden on the health infrastructure and system of the country.

Structural Changes for Malaria Control in India by 2027-Ken Research
The report titled “Structural Changes for Malaria Control in India by 2027” provides a comprehensive analysis on mosquito repellant sales dependability on vector borne diseases, number of malaria cases by state along with blood slide examination, plasmodium falciparum cases, plasmodium vivax cases and deaths. The report provides India mosquito repellent market size, segmentation by mosquito liquid, mosquito coil and mosquito cards, annual parasite index for malaria by state, demand for untreated mosquito nets state wise (2012-2022), LLINs distributed by different government bodies, donor funding for malaria, prices of LLINs along with their supplier and product, allocated budget for NVBDCP in India by State (FY’15-FY’18), proportion of patients with confirmed malaria who received anti-malaria treatment as per national policy by state (2013-2016), rapid diagnostic test for malaria (FY’18), per capita expenditure for malaria control (2015-2017), per capita income in INR and state GDP state wise, percentage of urban, rural and total household who own LLINs, fund allocation under NVBDCP state wise (FY’15-FY’18), urban rural population state wise (2013-2017), implementation of national strategic plan for malaria elimination (2017-2022). The report also covers population demographics, landscape of malaria (FY’14-FY’18), number of dengue cases & deaths (FY’18), rainfall statistics (2013-2017), temperature statistics (2017), number of C.D. blocks & villages and per capita income of West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Odisha including 5 major districts.
The report is useful for NGOs, local bodies, mosquito repellent manufacturers, mosquito net manufacturers, state authorities, National Institute of Vector Borne Disease to align their market centric strategies according to ongoing and expected trends in the future.
India Mosquito Repellent Market and Overview
Market Size: Traditionally, consumers in India have used mosquito coils, which are cheaper than electric insecticides and widely available. However, consumers are now slowly becoming aware of the fact that the smoke from insecticide coils is harmful to health. Furthermore, the fact that manufacturers are making electric insecticides more affordable is also helping to fuel demand. Mosquito repellents market in India is highly competitive, and consequent, companies are increasingly focusing on product diversification to consolidate and expand their market shares.
Market Segmentation:
By Mosquito Liquid
In 2017, the mosquito liquid has contributed highest share in term of revenue. Mosquito liquid have the highest market share as they do not produce any type of smoke and is not harmful to people. Mosquito coils are sold more in urban areas in comparison to rural areas as urban population are more aware of these products and are more health conscious. Mosquito cards are sold more in urban areas in comparison to rural areas as urban population are more aware of these products and are more health conscious.
Untreated Mosquito Net and Long Lasting Insecticide Net
Bihar and Uttar Pradesh has the highest use of single and double bed mosquito nets. This is majorly due to shortage of power supply because of which inhabitants of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh are not able to use mosquito liquid. LLIN is a mosquito net impregnated with insecticide. Large number of LLINs was distributed in the year 2017 in different states of India.
State Analysis
Odisha has the high number of malaria cases over the years. This is because of large forest area and high ratio of rural tribal population who are not aware of vector borne disease. The state government has taken many initiatives for eliminating malaria.
West Bengal: API has registered an erratic trend in West Bengal highlighting that number of Malaria cases have declined from 2013-2015 and then increased in 2016. It again registered a decline in 2017. The sales of mosquito repellant in the state are high mainly due to increased demand coming from Kolkata region.
Tamil Nadu: There was a hike in number of malaria cases because the state experienced drought and ambient temperature which led to spike in the breeding of mosquitoes in 2017. Water logging (due to scanty rainfall) after drought brought a rise in the mosquito population owing to rise in the number of malaria cases in the state. In FY’18, Chennai and Kancheepuram district have the highest number of malaria cases.
Maharashtra: In 2017, the state government has waged a war against malaria with its ‘Fight the Bite’ campaign. This campaign was majorly in order to increase the awareness among citizens of Maharashtra against the malaria prevention and how to stop breeding of mosquito in the nearby areas.
Uttar Pradesh: To control malaria and other vector borne diseases in Uttar Pradesh, the principal secretary (health and family welfare) of Uttar Pradesh has issued guidelines to all the district magistrates and officials of the various departments of the state. Moreover, Uttar Pradesh has also adopted a malaria elimination program, which aims to reduce the prevalence of the disease to less than one case per 1,000 people by the year 2030.
Andhra Pradesh: Most of the malaria cases prone months are July to September and thousands of cases are reported from tribal areas every year. In March 2017, Andhra Pradesh government spent a huge amount against the elimination of mosquitoes of malaria and other vector borne diseases such as dengue, chikungunya and zika.
Future Outlook
Mosquito repellents are the most used products among home insecticides. Home insecticides are now seen as essential items as a result of rising awareness of the importance of maintaining health and preventing exposure to mosquito borne diseases. Electric insecticides, particularly liquid vaporizers, are now being widely used among consumers. Well-known brands such as Good Knight, All Out and Mortein have launched a new format of paper based mosquito repellent at a low price targeting emerging rural markets. In order to appeal to consumers and offer.

Is India On The Verge Of A Dengue Epidemic?
What is dengue?
Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral disease that mostly occurs in tropical and sub-tropical regions. The dengue virus is carried by different species of mosquitoes of the Aedes genus. The symptoms of this disease are mild and are difficult to distinguish from other viral infections in the initial period of infection. They present themselves between three to fourteen days of contracting the infection. The symptoms typically include a high fever, nausea, headache, joint and muscle pains, vomiting and skin rashes. While dengue is curable, the disease can be life threatening in rare situations when the symptoms are not identified and treated on time. This can lead to dengue haemorrhagic fever, reduced levels of blood platelets and blood plasma leakage, bleeding or alarmingly low blood pressure levels causing dengue shock syndrome.
Reported Cases In India
India is in the grips of a massive dengue attack with over 23,000 reported cases this year. The South Indian states are the worst hit regions with 13,229 cases in Kerala followed by 4,174 cases in Tamil Nadu, 1945 cases in Karnataka and 606 cases in Andhra Pradesh. Other states that have been badly hit by this disease are Gujarat and West Bengal with 616 and 469 reported cases of dengue respectively.
This sudden surge in the spread of this virus called for a review meeting earlier this month for assessing the nation’s preparedness against the disease. While Kerala’s Health Minister, KK Shylaja, has termed this outbreak as unprecedented and accounted it to the onset of an early monsoon, leader of the State’s National Assembly, Ramesh Chennithala, has claimed that this upsurge was due to the lack of proper sanitation programme preceding monsoon. 23 cases of deaths have been confirmed in Kerala, however, it is suspected that the real number has exceeded 160.
Dengvaxia is the only vaccine available across the world for curing dengue. However, India has not approved its marketing in the country. The vaccines we have available offer protection to people who have not yet been exposed to the disease.
How To Prevent Dengue
Since mosquitos carry the dengue virus, the best way to prevent dengue is to not frequent places that might be infested by the insect. Here are some other tips to prevent yourself from contracting the disease:
Use mosquito repellents or sleep under a mosquito net. Keep the windows closed, especially in the evenings. Cover your body by wearing full sleeved shirts and full length pants. Do not allow your children to play in water puddles. Do not allow water to stagnate in your surroundings. Stagnant waters are breeding grounds for mosquitos and can create a health hazard. Try to keep your surroundings dry and clean. Ensure that you empty water from coolers, buckets, and other containers once a week. Use aerosol or liquid vaporiser during the day to prevent mosquito bites. Ensure that all drainage systems in your surroundings are well maintained and properly covered.
Identifying The Symptoms
Although it might be difficult to avoid the virus altogether, however, it might be beneficial if you learn to recognize the symptoms of dengue in the initial stages itself. If you have more than two of these symptoms, it is advisable to consult your doctor and get a test done immediately:
Fever – very frequent, high
Headache – frequent, intense
Rashes – might appear between 5 – 7 days on contracting the virus
Joint & muscle pain – intense
Pain behind eyes – frequent, intense
Vomiting & nausea – warning sign
Diarrhoea – frequent
Bleeding (skin rashes, gums, nose, ears) – frequent
Treatment
Varying degrees of dengue require appropriate attention. Dengue fever leads to a considerable drop in the platelet count. If recognized and treated immediately, you can recover from dengue within two days to two weeks. These home remedies have proven to be very effective in curing dengue:
Drinking juice of crushed Papaya leaves is the most effective remedy to cure dengue. Drinking guava juice mixed with honey has shown effective results in fighting the disease and quick recovery. The juice of Azadirachta Indica, commonly known as Neem in India, Aloe Vera juice and Barley grass juice have proven to be most effective in increasing the platelet count. Pomegranate juice strengthens the immune system and helps in faster recovery. Gooseberry juice is rich in vitamin C which is vital in curing dengue and must be consumed regularly when infected. A combination of cucumber, carrot and lemon juice also strengthens the immune system and helps in fighting off the after effects of the disease.
While home remedies are effective, it is always advisable to visit the doctor for treatment of dengue.
Dos & Don’ts When Infected
The National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and the Directorate General of Health Services have laid down certain guidelines for things that should not be done while fighting the disease:
Do not ingest Brufen or Aspirin for treating the fever Do not use antibiotics or steroids Intravenous therapy should be avoided unless there is an evidence of bleeding or hemorrhage Blood transfusion is a big no-no unless indicated otherwise
Recovery
The patient fighting dengue symptoms will show visible signs of improvement in the recovery stage. Their pulse becomes stable and breathing, body temperature, and blood pressure go back to normal. Any internal or external bleeding stops and body rashes subside. The patient will their appetite returning and will no longer feel nauseated.
It is often said that prevention is better than cure. It is easier to avoid contracting the disease than curing it. It is important to visit the doctor regularly and watch the patient carefully as this disease can rapidly transcend into a serious medical emergency. It is recommended to drink the magical potion during ailment that has healing properties – water! It is important for the body to get a lot of water and rest while recovering from dengue. Stay safe, stay fit!

Mosquito Net - Phiferindia
As the monsoon is coming up in Tamilnadu its better to get ready to tackle the Mosquito problem that will come along. After a shower, a days sunshine is enough to breed mosquitoes. Instead of protecting your bed alone with bed-nets or using coils or vaporizers that are also harmful for children's health, it is a wise option to protect your entire house from mosquitoes with mosquito net on the windows and doors. Instead of letting the mosquitoes get inside your house and then preventing them from biting you, it would be safe to stop them from entering your house in the first place. The only way to do that is to fix mosquito net on your windows & doors.
