“Ferdinand,” Elffin begins, as they return to the bunker for what seemed to be the last time, “How are you feeling?”

He doesn’t elaborate much on his question, allowing it to be answered as seriously or lightly as one would wish. The two gifts they received were to be passed onto others shortly, but the encounters that granted them would not be so easily forgotten.

“...Might I ask about that water nymph you mentioned?” But he can’t help just a moment of curiosity from slipping through, however. “If you wish to speak more of her, that is.”

"oh Elffin! quite good to see you--"

Elffin's inquiry ran a shock through his system, and though he knuckle-pressed both his hands on his hips, Ferdinand's ears were two tones pinker than he had found him last.

"my! you remembered, did you? well, I..."

"...was fairly convinced that nymphs existed! in fact, I still am." two dragons, divine aside, he had no luck with that discovery. but, one day. surely.

normally, he wouldn't be so embarrassed to talk about it, but the context had been entirely changed the moment he realized whom he had actually seen in Enbarr that day. for her sake, he was surprisingly tight-lipped about it.

"I was but a child... and the nature of my affections was that of a child." his teeth shone as he grinned to stand in for his bashfulness. "all I can tell you in confidence was that she was a lovely singer. the best I had the pleasure of hearing."

"ah, but so much for talks of love." fondly, he sidled up closer to Elffin to bump elbows with him warmly. "I'm sure that nymph would take my eyes for so much as looking in her direction."

"ha ha!"

dark circles drew over bright eyes, not quite answering either question in full.

but Elffin would have to forgive him for that.
