Media loves Netflix, Media loves binge watching. While it directs to Technical Boy as well, one must admit that Media and Technical Boy, in this day and age, are intrinsic, powerful, and connected to each other. Netflix, however, is inherently in Media’s domain. It’s TV, it’s documentary, it’s movies and iconic shows and films and documentaries that people love to hate and hate to love; Oscar worthy films and performances. Media is in Netflix; Media can watch from it. It’s just another form of worship to Media; anything with a screen and the consumption of information from video and news counts as Media, it just makes them stronger. Media says it to Shadow themselves: THE SCREEN IS THE ALTAR. Your laptop? Your phone? You booting up Netflix and taking hours of your time to pay attention to your show while you binge watch feeds them. Media is ravenous for that, Media thrives on our attention; all Media does. Good, bad; it doesn’t matter so long as someone is watching. The same applies to binge watching: TIME AND ATTENTION, they say; BETTER THAN LAMB’S BLOOD. You’re giving hours of your life to them, for them: and that’s a perfect sacrifice to Media because it keeps giving. Media is an insanely powerful entity because of this: perhaps more powerful than we realise on the show and book; because like Technical Boy, Media is everywhere. The concept of Netflix and binge-watching being portable now gives them extra sacrifices, extra attention, extra belief. They’ve no reason to hate or feel neutral towards Netflix or binge-watching when it’s becoming a large source of their power when 73% OF AMERICANS REPORTING BINGE WATCHING FOR AN AVERAGE OF 5 HOURS IN ONE SITTING; with young Americans binge watching every week. Look at that time we’re all giving Media – think about it. Think about all those sacrifices people in the United States alone are giving Media. The thing about the New Gods is that they are the world, they are everywhere and they are here; how much of the human population binge watches? Media’s got good pickings; they wholeheartedly support binge watching – Fuck all those articles that say it’s unhealthy; to them, it’s fake news.

fun halloween question, does media take the form of/make homages to any horror movies for The Spooks? :0 i gotta know.

YES. i mean media themselves is already so surreal that they’re terrifying, but they love iconic horror films that shaped generations. they love the tackiness of them, the fake blood, the campy themes of it all; and while media likes and prefers to be technicolour for the added edge, they acknowledge that the best and most iconic horror films and cult classics were made in the era before technicolour. media does go out and will spook people in the flesh with their usual theatrics, and their favourite films/actors to play homages to are:

the creature from the black lagoon

dana wynter in invasion of the body snatchers

They all read; varying fonts and yellowing as the decades rolled by. This one was much simpler, plainer; a simple: FUCK YOU ! another random question! why do you think Media prefers to appear as older (1950's and previous) entertainment icons in our current decade? do they have a favourite decade or is there something more it----that that sort of decade appears as a more iconic look for entertainment?

Rosa, you give me life. While Media seems to really stick to vintage Hollywood for their glamours, the addition of David Bowie is interesting; in the sense that all of Media’s glamours shown in the show ( Lucille Ball, Bowie, Marilyn Monroe and Judy Garland ) are still intrinsic to pop culture despite their ( in Bowie’s case, recent ) deaths years ago. They have cult followings: I Love Lucy was voted ‘Best TV Show of All Time’ in 2012. Marilyn Monroe’s films grossed 200 million before her death, and even now her image is repeated and sought after: we’re still trying to recreate the subway scene years after. Bowie, of course, is a legend in his own right, and Garland is remembered mostly for Wizard of Oz and Meet Me In St Louis; but Easter Parade was also influential: her image is still seen in pop culture today as well; she’s been frozen in the girl next door image that she hated. This pop culture icon status has a unique religious twist: people adore all four of these icons; they collect merchandise, go to museums and dress as them for Halloween. Posters and prints hang in people’s homes, box set dvds and deluxe cd sets are waiting to be played. In life, there was mania over them: people waiting for hours for a glimpse of them, photographing them at all turns, their passings all brought the world to mourn: they’re all modern day religious icons that we all pay homage and pray to. Couple this with the idea that the screen is the altar for Media: that their time and attention is the greatest sacrifice that keeps on giving. These icons are intrinsic to Media; they are recognised world over, they are relevant and prayed to. We feed Media with this; and that’s likely why Media chooses these forms, aside from the fact people will trust their idols and identify with them ( which is a good manipulation tactic to utilise. ). |As for their tendency to stick with Old Hollywood for their glamours, I think it’s due to our modern tendency to mirror looks and aesthetics that were popular then. They’ve come back; fashion always makes its rounds (We’ve been dressing like Edwardians in the summer, the necklines and weird sleeves this season are reminiscent of the 1830s, for whatever God awful reason): it’s a timeless look; dated, but never truly ageing. Fit in while standing out: it’s all about what we consume and want, and Media will appear as that. The era itself is iconic: we’ve a devotion to the aesthetic and the films produced in that time. Special screenings, remastered DVDS; an entire channel dedicated to them. Think of it as another icon for Media to emulate.
