Beyond the Thorns's Cage

As long I was drawing Malleus and Morgana, I always wanted to do some illustrations based on the scene of Sophie kissing Hauru in his raven-man form, in Howl's Moving Castle. I have done some drafts, sketches and in the meantime Diasomnia's trailer came with the sequence where Malleus is emprisonner in a cage made of his owns thorns, as blots sumberged him.

I was just finishing the last details when Part 5 was released. With Silver's past and Meleanor's singing the lullaby based on the medley of Once Upon a Dream, the same that Malleus humming...

"Let's be together as I stare at yours eyes. Don't get afraid... even if we wake up from that dream..."

In Noctem...

Carry my soul into the night. May the stars guide my way. I glory in the sight, as darkness takes the day. Sing a song, a song of life, made without regret.

Tell the ones, the ones I loved, I never will forget.

It’s been so long that I wanted to do this Diasomnia arwork based on the song  In Noctem by Nicholas Hooper ^^ 

Even if I wait the end of Chapter 7 for making the entire fan-comic/fic because of all the plotline and details, I have planned, (no matter what happen in game), that Morgana falling under her Curse will be one of the factors of Malleus’s Overbolt. And after what happen in Chapter 7 part 2... It’s just fit perfectly with what I have imagined !!

My Yuu/OC, Morgana, had being curse by a mysterious Shadow, right before she enter at NRC. That curse eat her magic bit by bit and ultimatly will put her into an eternal sleep of nightmares before her twenty-first birthday. Despite his efforts to reverse the Curse, Malleus know that Morgana will fall under it and no power on earth will change that.

Despite all of it that Malleus and Morgana decided to live fully each days together... By doing night strowl around the campus. Reading, studing togheter in the library. Dance under the light of a fireworks’s festival or during a masked ball... Slowly, Morgana becoming more than Malleus’s guide in his quest for understand humanity. His star in his night of solitude. His beloved Child of Men... as he became her Dragon. 

But while Lilia annonced that he was leaving  NRC because he is on the end of his very long life, Morgana’s health situation, already a little worse off since Isle of Wor’s events became more serious. The end was near. It’s seems that only way for her to escape it was seeding her back to the Other World (Earth), a world that she leaved three years ago and seems don’t want going back.

Just before to go to Lilia’s Farewell Party Malleus and Morgana went their traditional night strowl around the campus. As they walk, they talking about Lilia. About the possibilty that Morgana could return to the Other World and being safe. About the feeling to be alone and the lost of cherrished ones... Then suddenly as the two finaly decide to join the Party, Morgana began to painfully split out black blood from her mouth. In a flash, the Mark of the Curse spreading from her right arms to her body and face. Her skin turning white as a shroud. When Malleus take her in his arm, it was to late. Morgana was gone.  

It’s was to much to bear for Malleus...  He couldn’t bared. After all they endured. After all she endured. 

Morgana’s tragic fate. The brutal departure of Lilia. All of these already broke Malleus’s heart but more than ever, he realize that he is cursed to be the One to Remain. How humans’s existences are fragile and ephemere. All the people he meet at NRC, classmates, teachers, relatives, friends...  All of the people he cherrish and care are all fated to fade and leave... And he will stay there until very longs years of his life finaly ends.

 He will be alone again. In the cold darkness.

And if there was a way to for keeping his friends, his family, his love one without losing them...

Presents

A special art-comic for Malleus’s birthday ^////^

I know, it’s a bit late but I wanted to do something special. It’s true that I do a lot of arts about that dragon. I just love him, both because his my favorite character (and I am super hype and nervous for the next of Chapter 7) but also he had a very special place in my heart, just like Ashitaka, Chihiro or all LotR’s characters...

It’s quite long to explain, but every time that things became  hard, and seems to be unsurmontable as a heavy burden, along with peoples, theres is universes, stories that give me courage. Twisted Wonderland and in particular Malleus ones  of these stories, of these characters who remind me that even in the grayness of a rainy day, there is always an opportunity to smile. Little moments of happiness that warm the heart, like a good hot chocolate or tea ^^.

Malleus’s Birthday Event had been upload just after a very tense work period at the university. Read the new Personal Story with the interactions between Malleus and Ace and Malleus Groovy Cards give me that warm and reminded me of one of Rebecca Tripp's medley cover (link below :-)). The music and the poem (from where the lyrics in the art are from) increase that feeling, that whatever things are rough and hard, there is always someone, in a story and/or in real life that guide us and give hope. It’s remind me how important and precious relationships are.    

I think that bond to other whatever it’s with a parent, a friends, classmate/workmate or a lover, is the core of Malleus’s inner journey. Even he is a loner because his personality and social statut, he is looking for that human connection, to open himself to other...

In the Springtime of the year...

“And so they linked their hands and danced,‘round in circles and in rows. And so the journey of the night descends, when all the shades are gone”

The night fall in the woods near the Briar Valley Castle. Firebonds are lits and all Fea folk of the Valley gathering under the trees for a night for celebrate spring and the comming of summer. 

Morgana dressed of green and gold, wait for her partner. Fire sparkles flying the air to the stars. Lanterns glows in the trees as Pixies, Elves and Night Fea and others members of the Folk, row on the strange and lively music of hurdy-gurdy, drums and fiddle.

Then well-know fireflies appears behind her as two gentle cold hands take hers. She turn her head, smiling. Two bright and warm green eyes of her Dragon meet her gaze. 

The Dragon Prince and the Human Maiden  linked their hands and join the row. Dancing until all the shades of the night are gone.  

Just a small sweet Morgana and Malleus moment... Loreena Mackenitt music as been always a big source of inspirations for my illustrations ans stories. Each times that I listen Mummer’s Dance, I see Morgana and Malleus dancing during a midspring evening, peacefully.

Beyond theses walls

A friend afar, a shared and fleeting moment, calling out  in vain. I see no stars. Aligned they keep us frozen, fated to remain.

I can here the distant calls. There is no easy way out of here. There is no easy way, persevere. There is so much more beyond these walls.

“Beyond These Walls (Hades)“ - Miracle of Sounds [link]  

Miracle of Sound’s works and covers are for me a great source of inspiration. These songs are not just about a specific character or game but can evoke an other fictional character or OC (ex: “Wake the White Wolf“ [The Wither 3]) or/and evoking feelings and deep emotions… images.  

When I listen “Beyond These Walls“, I found in it a kinda of echo to Ignihyde Arc when the (vise-) Dorms Leaders, Epel, Rook and Yuu/Morgana (my OC) going down into to the deepest part of Underworld while overbolted Idia, Ortho and the Phantoms rise form it… all of them breaking the doors apart. And specially the lines that I quoted, evoke three story line of the Arc :

-> Idia /Ortho/O.R.T.H.O : As childs, Idia and Ortho wanted to discover the outside world, before to embrace the inheritage of the Keeper of the Underworld. To have a chance of freedom. But came a horrible and tragic accident. Ortho’s memory became a pale and artificial version of what he was as a living and Idia… He doesn’t  just fear the Out-Side because that him and his brother wanted to go there and Ortho died in the process, but he reject it. Hating it. Hating the World and the people who live there and said that no one can understand his pain, his lost, luring himself with technology. But when the echoes of his past return, he decide (him and O.R.T.H.O.), yes like Zagreus to go finaly out-side. But not as just discovred as they wanted to do as kids, but engluf the world of what they must look on, even if his caused, like this everyone will be same that them and it’s will be no more suffering... For them. (I don’t know but Idia look like a bit to Joseph/Cartaphillus in Ancient’s Magus Bride)

-> Morgana : At that point of the main story, her curse is too much stronger to be reversed. That curse take the form of a fading rose on her right arm and while it eat her magic and life-force, at each petal dispear, the moment where she will fall into a eternal sleep tormented by the cries and the hate of the Shadow is closing. At the moment that S.T.Y.X’s attack NRC, there is only there left. But de s’appitoyer on her fate, Morgana decide to live, fully. So when her friends (and people she saved form Drakness) had being injured or inducted, she doesn’t hesitade. With the same determination than Zagreus, she will goes throug all trials to save and help the one who are lost before to return on the Surface, under sun where peoples waiting for her... like a certain dragon that she is carring in her heart.  

-> Malleus : As in the ruins of of Ramshackle Droms, previous event, those lines of Beyond These Walls, echo to the forshadowing of Malleus unseen but deep loneliness (and “possible“Overbolt’s origin). Even being a Fea, and potential lived at least more than hundred years, he never trully understand the burden of his immortalty. Because of Morgana his Child of Men, Malleus found a chance to live as anyone else. Not just a Crown-Prince restricted in his castle since birth, knowing the world only by books and stories. Now Malleus realize with bitterness that these moments with the persons he meet and care will not last. They will gone while he will stay forever. Even if his beloved Morgana return form the Isle od Lamentationa as she promise, she will gone too... and not because of natural death... Her life is become  fragile and ephemer as rose petal or a butterfly...

Even if I cast Twst character into Hades characters, because of similarities in their roles, desgin or as character in the story/mythology/game, Malleus and Morgana (even if there some Zagreus’s lietmotif on her desgin), are more close to two character form Greek Mythology, which doesn’t appear in Hades but are linked to the Underworld at some point of the tale, Eros (Cupid) and Psyché. Basicly, Cupid and Psyché is the origin of all the stories about Beauty and the Beast. A main theme that is a big inspiration for the romance of Malleus and Morgana.

All Souls Night is one of my favorite song ever and it’s sound just perfect for Malleus and Morgana.  ^///^ 

(and after seeing some minor spoilers about the new event, I thinks that moment between Malleus and Morgana happened before the mysterious disparitions of more than half of the College (???!!!). Can’t wait for to see more about ^///^)

Recently I re-watch Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 and when I see The Sorcerer's Apprentice sequence , it was like : what if the NRC’s first years do the same thing as Mickey Mouse in the original animation ?

As we can see in the main story (and also during events), washing, cleaning NRC campus can be a detention (right Ace ? XD). I don’t I remember if the student are allowed to use magic during this task but for that headcanon I said they are not to do any sort of magic.

I imagine a kind of masterclass where all first students promotion are gathering in a kind of Alchemy/Magical Potion amphitheater for the theory aspect (practice  take place in the labs) and... somehow... it’s ended into a mess.

Pr. Crewel put all the first years (including Yuu/Morgana) into detention. They must cleaning without magic the amphitheater after school .

First they try to do it, well, in the no-magical way, but a half of the gang are too lazy (such as a certain racoon-cat monster and a ginger ex-tart thief) or to proud to do thing like a mere human, so they decided to do “dirty work“ by magic since Pr. Crewel is gone to a staff reunion, so he will not return before ages. Of course Morgana, Jack (the two only voice of reason in that chaos !) and Deuce are against that idear, so everyone ask to poor Epel what he think of it.

At the end, they enchanted the brooms, the mops and the other cleaning stuff. Meanwhile its are cleaning the room like in the Sword in the Stone, the students goes on the next room, taking snacks and drinks and began to talk about their hometown, their plans, the atmosphere in their dorms... Hight-school/college’s students stuff.

One or two hours passed, someone of the gang go check if the “cleaning spell” had done its task and it that moment that they realize that the spell is gone too far !

Water everyhere, turning the place into a pool. Bubbles, soap on the windows. Floating books and magic tools.

A true mess ! Everything is wrecked, flooded into a spooky cleaning dance 

The gang try to stop the enchanted tools but since its was tasked to do one job, cleaning, well its cleanning the students and  almost drown some!  

Finaly after a long and painful battle against the brooms and de-enchanted them, Pr. Crewel appear suddenly in the devastated amphitheater...

All students’s reaction:

 I am afraid that detention will last forever XD

Just a sweet, goof and fluff moment between Morgana and Malleus, falling together in the snow and laughing happily...

It’s happen two years before the current Night Raven College’s events, so during the winter before Malleus is taken by the Ebony Carriage and go to NRC. At that time, Morgana lived already in Twisted Wonderland since few months (she had 16). She is the Royal Painter’s ward and lived in the Valley of Thorns’s royal castle. She already very close with Malleus and spend a lot with him... At the great joy of Lilia and Sebek’s disagreement XD   

I have headcanon that when Malleus is at the Valley of Thorns he had his dragon tail and wings on his back. So when in prevision of his entrence at NRC, he try to walk without by glamour its by magic but by doing that he lost his balance center and don’t stop fallinf in the snow. It’s how Morgana found him in his roses’s garden trying to stay upright and she offers her help. They almost successed but when malleus try to walk on his own, he fell right backwards again, dragging Morgana with him. After a moment, they began to laugh happily, laying in the snow.     

(At the point of the girl is already in love of her dragon-fea prince but don’t show her feelings to Malleus (who finaly enjoy the feeling to have a friend). It’s silly but she don’t want to rush their brand new friendship. So she wait the right time)

Just wanted to draw a soft and peaceful moment between them. A moment where they are just two friends, together laughing happily. Where they are just Malleus and Morgana. Where they aren’t the crown prince fea and a simple human girl. Where there themself... Before the strom. Before the overbolts, the kidnapping by ghosts, crazy teacher ou STYX. Before Morgana lost her memories about the Valley of Thorns and being cursed by the Ancient Shadow...

Just a peaceful moment... ^^

Not too late for posting some Yasmina Fireworks’s artwork ^^? 

Oh dear... I loved so much that event that a ton of ideas of artwork and plot for the comic just invaded my head and my eyes. I mean like, I think it the first event where we don’t have save the day, where there magicam or a crazy hunter EP teacher... Where it just relax, enjoy a new place, a new country. (a big personal joy for myself because it happened the mouth of my birthday and there is almost all my favorite character (such a certain dragon ^^)).

 Had fun with friends, meet new people, discover new culture, the past of some persons, dancing under the starts, seeing together the fireworks... Enjoy life, to have a peaceful moment before the storm...

I imagined that scene of Morgana and Malleus after reading Malleus’s voice line.: “Would you like to ride on a small boat later? It s only a short distance, however it would be a good memory of the trip ? “

Mini-plot :

After dancing and Jamil leave the group for lunching the firework, Malleus ask to Morgana about to see the fireworks on the river. They took boat and look the celestial lights. When the show is over they return on shore and...
