i think twt is the only place you can really go to and say something like "i hate how people are employing fanon interpretations of a character in serious character analysis" and then proceed to find mocking posts with "evidence" that proves absolutely nothing but the poster's inability to do proper media reading and people pointing out that oh, you must definitely hate their specific ship then!! when you never said anything about any specific ship

all just because a subset of us in fandom really dislike the stupid mischaracterization of pre-nibelheim sephiroth as some sort of sex machine daddy dom god who's out for cadet ass and has no regard for boundaries

like, i'm literally not in this fandom since late 2014 to read shit like that

at this point i fucking despise the reading of sephiroth as some perfect god who's super sexual all the time because he's not wearing a shirt under his coat or some other garbage like that because, while the concept of cloud getting railed in the middle of that ac fight is hot as hell, that's just a fantasy for pwp fic that some people keep trying to shove down everyone's throats as absolute 24/7 fact and like, it's tiring as fuck

this is the exact same as stupid dudebros trying to push the equally stupid "they fucked under the highwind guys!!" for ct or seeing tifa as just a sex object just because she has big naturals

i'm so fucking tired, media literacy and differing fanon from canon facts is so fucking dead

i think the daddy dom sex god sephiroth archetype did more damage to this fandom than good in the long run, right alongside people forcing she/her pronouns on the character during serious character analysis, like

i love trans seph as much as the nearest person because i'm trans myself and there are various ways to be trans anyway, i love seeing that kind of media reading and exploration of characters, but that in serious analysis just feels like people are completely missing the nuances of another language or trying to push fanon down people's throats or both and i'm tired of that too

i really fucking miss the 2014-2017 era of fandom where in we would have a lot of meta posts about canon without any of this forced fanon garbage seeping in and people would recognize when it's the time for fanon and when it's the time for not fanon
