I got a new plant, mostly from shock because I've never seen this plant before. I have a habit of naming every plant I see to my boyfriend when we're in plant stores, and I got to this one and said "monkey mask" but then I stopped and went... no that's not a monkey mask. I went to look at the label and it said Pothos!
After some googling I think it's called Pothos baltic blue. I would say I'm certain but the plant was much more whiteish blue hue and photos on google were more green, but now that I've given it a shower it looks very green like the photos. What also threw me off is that this plant was pretty cheap, like normal pothos-at-plant-shop price, while the ones I saw on google were.. pretty expensive. The cashier said it was a "new type of pothos she had never seen before" or something so I think it was definitely sold to them as a pothos.
Does anyone know what it is for sure? And any additional info about the plant? Is it really that expensive, did I get a good price?
I almost changed my mind and said it was a Pothos cebu blue but Here's a picture of the oldest biggest leaf, it almost looks like a tetrasperma leaf. When comparing differences between cebu blue and baltic blue, the big leaves seem to be the biggest difference, where the baltic blue seems to develope more tetrasperma-looking leaves while the cebu blue is a much more normal pothos-in-the-wild look

And Now It's Time for Silly Songs with Larry: the part where Larry comes out and Sings a Silly Song.
That's right, the VeggieTales Villain Song Showdown is in it's final days, and that means it's time for the Very Veggie Silly Song Showdown!
Playlist is Here. First Round of Polls (barring any major hang-ups) should go up on Sunday.
Match-up list and more details on how the bracket was formed under the cut.
Now, a couple of things: This is every song from a VeggieTales episode that fills the spot traditionally held by Silly Songs with Larry (so yes we do have Love Songs with Mr. Lunt, Obscure Broadway Showtunes, etc.) plus a few that even if they aren't in that specific spot, they're a non-traditional episode equivalent (feature film credits songs, song-compilation-episode premiered songs, and Lost Puppies because it just feels like a silly song).
This number of songs (and the number there would be if I did JUST the official ones) is... not traditional tournament compatible. So, to try to make this as fair as possible, I had to get creative.
First, and the easiest to see on the visual bracket, Semifinals will be Top 3 of the Left and Top 3 of the Right (as opposed to Top 2).
Second, there are 3 Round 1 "Themed" Match-ups. These do get to skip a round, which I'm not a fan of because I feel like it gives them a free pass; however, these also have 3 songs in each, which means to move on it has to beat 2 other songs as opposed to 1, and in my mind that makes it harder, so I'm thinking maybe hopefully it evens out? (If you don't like it... it's VeggieTales Silly Songs, don't take it so seriously).
These themed match-ups also serve as a way to compare similar songs. We've got the three Boyz in the Sink songs (Bellybutton, Mess Down in Egypt, and Bubble Rap), the three Christmas songs (Oh Santa, 8 Polish Foods of Christmas, and Wrapped Myself Up for Christmas), and three Pirates Who Don't Do Anything but-not-their-original-theme-song Songs (Do the Moo Shoo, Credits Song, and Rock Monster).
So that's how I tried to work with there being a non-easily-bracketable number of songs. And as far as how the match-ups were distributed: it looks random, but it's not? It was a lot so I don't want to try to describe it in too much detail, but it is based on grouping them in chronological order, pitting the groups against each other and putting them on opposite sides and in different branches of the bracket. Basically, trying to delay any potential rematches of the ten in the Ultimate Silly Song Countdown until as late in the tournament as possible.
Anyway, now for the actual Match-ups:
Left Side:
A.1: "The Water Buffalo Song" vs "Monkey"
A.2: "Lost Puppies" vs "Astonishing Wigs"
A.3: "Dance of the Cucumber" vs "Sneeze if you Need To"
A.4: "SUV Song" vs "Best Friends Forever"
B.1: "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything" vs "Donuts for Benny"
B.2: "The Blues with Larry" vs "Happy Tooth Day"
B.3: "Yodeling Veterinarian of the Alps" vs "Where Have All the Staplers Gone?"
B.4: "My Baby Elf" vs "The Perfect Puppy"
C.1: "Endangered Love" vs "The Hopperena"
C.2: "The Gated Community" vs "My Golden Egg"
C.3 (Boyz in the Sink): "Bellybutton Song" vs "A Mess Down in Egypt" vs "Bubble Rap"
Right Side:
A.1: "The Hairbrush Song" vs "The Biscuit of Zazzamarandabo"
A.2: "Larry's High Silk Hat" vs "Supper Hero"
A.3: "I Love My Lips" vs "Sippy Cup"
A.4: "Schoolhouse Polka" vs "Kilts and Stilts"
B.1: "Song of the Cebu" vs "Pants"
B.2: "Pizza Angel" vs "Asteroid Cowboys"
B.3: "His Cheeseburger" vs "Goodnight Junior"
B.4: "Lance the Turtle" vs "Mac and Cheese"
C.1 (Bonus Pirates [Round 1 Pass]): "Do the Moo Shoo" vs "The Credits Song" vs "Rock Monster"
C.2: (Christmas [Round 1 Pass]): "Oh, Santa!" vs "The Eight Polish Foods of Christmas" vs "Wrapped Myself Up for Christmas"

pearl of the orient sea ; alejandro vargas/filo! reader
― fluff
desc: filo! reader headcanons (moreso on scenarios bc i'm not a pro at this headcanon thing but shh)
note: something self-indulgent for me & the peenoise out there, but just to clear, i am from cebu so bisaya/cebuano comes more naturally to me. (if you're feeling particularly left out, don't be afraid to comment some of your own hcs of your province!!)
first & foremost, before everything else i think he'd be interested in the language, most especially the words. he'd catch one or two in the middle of the sentence so he'd only have the faintest idea of the conversation but hey, that's better than nothing.
he knew it was at the start of your relationship where he noticed that your native tongue & his overlapped in some ways. upon closer inspection, he can pinpoint it somewhere in the fourth date.
your phone was ringing & despite numrous attempts to quiet it down & go on with the conversation, the phone won. you needed to take this call.
you excused yourself as courteously as you could, distancing yourself away. you gave him a sorry smile & asked for forgiveness (he'd forgive you, cariño, don't worry) but even still, alejandro heard bits & pieces of the conversation ― turns out it was with your mother.
he was all wide eyes & stares when you answered the phone with harsh vowels & tough tones. he heard similar words ― silla, aparador, toalla, zapatos, medias.
the vowels were open, the consonants were clipped ― almost strict in your pronunciation. he doesn't recall you ever talking to anyone like this, so curt & quick.
he wasn't paying to the conversation, just the sound of your voice, the rise & fall of tempo.
when you finished, he had to collect himself before attempting conversation again.
"what was that language you were speaking?" he chuckles. "you sounded angry."
you laughed with him. there was a dimple on your cheek & another near the corner of your lips. he could look at you forever.
"that was cebuano, my native language. well ―" you looked up, trying to recollect some faraway knowledge. "philippines ― the official language is filipino but they really mean to say tagalog & it's mostly spoken on the northern islands and... you know what, this needs a visual aid, hold on."
and so the date went, with an enthusiastic lesson about your homeland, the differences of each island & region, the multitude of languages all inside one country.
at times he just stared. you were so energetic about this, so excited to share information possibly stewing inside you, most especially when you take into account that you've had to move to las almas, a different country with different cultures.
he learned much from that day with you and, funnily enough, recalls the numerous times your spelling got a bit finicky whenever you texted.
manzanas became mansanas, azucar became asukar (or hell, asukal), zapatos were sapatos, prutas, kutsilyo, baso, even baño was misspelled... & now he finally knew why.
some afternoons were spent with that topic in mind.
your head was on his chest. hands mindlessly wandering the expanse of his torso, the sides of his stomach, the veins on his forearm.
"cariño," he asks. "what's your word for monday?"
"lunes."
hardly paying attention to your words, you see bones in his wrist. you want to hold it.
he chuckles & you feel it under your cheek.
"so they match? how about sunday?"
"domingo." the vein looks blue on his skin.
"¿viernes?"
"uh, biyernes." another match.
"¿jueves?"
"huwebes." match
"hmm, let's see." one of his hands is in your hair. you grow sleepy. "zapatos, sombrero, regalo ―"
"bumbero, basura, libro, sabado," you list with him.
he laughs at that ― a big hearty one, with his teeth bared & the smile reaching his eyes. he had a freckle on one side of his jaw. you crane up to kiss it.
in turn, he cranes to kiss your forehead.
"hmm," he says. "what's your word for january?"
some weekends were spent running around las almas, trying to find local ingredients for food. (cue several questions/arguments happening)
"i could make tortang talong?"
"talong?"
"talong means eggplant, langga."
"torta...? eggplant sandwich?"
"wh ―"
― - -
"what do you mean torta means omelet?!"
"eggplant sandwich?!"
― ― ―
"we have something called, uh, puto?"
"...excuse me?"
― ― ―
"amor, you also have menudo in the philippines?"
"yEAH ―"
some days are spent pinching his cheek & cooing like a lola :)
you squinch his cheek.
"sus, ikaw ba, ikaw ba! ka gwapoooo sa akong palangga."
guapo, his mind helpfully supplies. he preens under the praise.
"ang karnero nga gamay, ka kulot sa iyang buhok!"
"hey, what does that mean?"
"it means i like you & i like your face."
you kiss the squinched cheek.
langga/palangga = darling
sus, ikaw ba. ka gwapo sa akong palangga = oh, you! my darling is so handsome
ang karnero nga gamay, ka kulot sa iyang buhok = the little sheep, how curly is his hair
note: this was a bit short! i'll make more if/when something sparks me, bye

saw elliott once and fell in love. learned that he wrote novels and fell a million times harder.
goes to ginger island a lot but always goes back to the mainland because she feels like it'd be mean to elliott to just leave him alone like that
if she existed irl she'd be born and raised in cebu and know at least five languages conversationally and two fluently. i don't need to explain myself there are over 7000 islands in the philippines.

tell us a plant rescue story!
ohhh gosh idekk ⊙﹏⊙∥ a fair few number of friends have come to me for help with plant stuff. i would not say i've straight up had to rescue any as in, like, physically take them away haha but, umm, i have rolled up with pots, soil, pest control treatments, fertilizer etc. to a friend's house late at night before slkdjfsldf
maybe a good rescue story is the cebu blue pothos i got from home despot's clearance section. cebu blues are sooorta rare and they're having a moment, you could say. i was in home despot to begin with because we were returning equipment we'd rented to work on the stairs. i really do not like hd but sometimes they're the only option for that type of stuff. what's more is i really hate looking at their plant section because it just makes me sad? but we had to walk by it to get to returns and i saw her.... i couldn't believe they had a cebu blue at all and that she was in such bad shape... completely waterlogged and full of gnats, vines full of yellow leaves. it pained me to look at her in such disgrace. she was marked down so much i decided to just pull her and see what would happen. i don't have a picture from back then but here is her now after about five months of good light, fresh soil, and consistent watering.
it's like, i hate that i bought into the big box plant farm machine but also didn't she deserve to be saved rather than lay to waste for pests under florescent lighting?
my next move will be to give her some type of support pole so she can start climbing and growing fenestrated leaves (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)

Hiiiiii my sunshine!!! I’m here to be a distraction :)
Anyways here’s a ton of questions for you. While hearing about any of them would be good, the Cebu trio or Mickey or literally any of the MM crew would be 👀👀👀
1: are they associated with a certain color? what color do they wear the most?
5: how do they typically dress? does their wardrobe lean more towards practicality or aesthetics?
21: their favorite place to be?
23: how would you describe their voice? can they sing?
33: if applicable, how would your other characters describe them? i mean specifically the people around them.
34: how would your character describe themselves? it doesn't have to line up with how they really are.
I love you!
(ask game here!)
!!! hi baby!! sorry this took a minute. let's see... on account of our conversation this morning. Oggy Time
1: are they associated with a certain color? what color do they wear the most?
tha BLUES. not the music just. the color. he's a very frosty guy and he sorta lives up to the aesthetic lol. he'll wear any colors, although I feel the most common are like. blue and white. other neutral tones thrown in, cool colors too. and patterns are good.
5: how do they typically dress? does their wardrobe lean more towards practicality or aesthetics?
World's Largest Sweater Collection for this guy. the more frumpy and grandpa-core the better. sir you live in the fucking philippines,
21: their favorite place to be?
ough,,,, god this is a hard one. im gonna say the crankit family kitchen, specifically with rai and dai. he'll never admit it tho.
23: how would you describe their voice? can they sing?
hm... low? it was already low before he started t, so it's honestly a little soothing. as for tone... pretty serious, usually. even when he's joking, his humor is very dry and deadpan. it's really funny when he gets all riled up and his voice cracks, tho.
33: if applicable, how would your other characters describe them?
ooh.. ok i'm gonna do just a few:
shirai and daiya: their beloved kuya. oh how they treasure getting on his last fucking nerve. no but really they both look up to him sooo much, they think of him as a really steady and caring person. to his face tho, "kuya killjoy" lmao. "shortass."
murphy: LMAO don't trust this man he's down bad. "cute," obviously. nerd but in an endearing way. a giver, but needs to take better care of himself.
rey: aer best friend. "snores too damn loud." a kindred spirit, they are both way too exhausted to give a fuck. "the best of all of us. except maybe justice. idk don't make me choose."
34: how would your character describe themselves? it doesn't have to line up with how they really are.
tired. both in general and of everyone's shit lmao.
i love you too!!! ty for sending this in !!!!!!! MWAH !!!

I don't like Epiprenum (pothos) that much. There, I said it.
And I don't think they are as easy care as people claim. Obviously, your environment has a lot to do with plant care, so there's that. But I have at least 15 other plants that are more easygoing in my environment than my pothos including Monstera adensonaii, all of my Dracaena, my NOID Peperomia "scandens", both of my cane begonias, and most of my Hoyas.
Not that ease of care is the only criterion for enjoying a plant, of course. But all of those plants look better, too. With less effort. (Minus having to trellis some of the Hoyas which is effort)
I'm not at the "get rid of any Epiprenum" phase which I have gotten to with a few other planets (I'm looking at your Pilea peperomioides) but I have zero interest in acquiring any more Epiprenum aureum at the very least. I do enjoy my Cebu Blue (Epiprenum pinnatum) so maybe more of those, but probably not.
#houseplants#pothos#elminx rambles#I really expected to like them though#and I adopted so many cuttings last year#the marble queen/snow queen sure is pretty though

I've been thinking about indoor plants soooo much since I read Code Verde (which was still so good!) And now I want to know what sort of plants you think would suit each of the Tracy boys under the assumption that they're a great plant dad 😄💕 (if you are so inclined 💕💕)
Buckle up, let's go!
Assuming plant dad is a shared Tracy trait, I think Tracy villa would be quite the nursery! Now I will admit, houseplants are a hobby of mine, and I do love foliage and greenery. But I am in no ways an expert. So here are some possible headcanons for plantdad!Tracys. In truth, they probably have so much outside their windows…
I was indecisive on some of these, so I may have talked about both the plant I think they'd actually grow and the plant that matches their personalities symbolically.
Scott - Pothos is a common name for a plant that is not a pothos species at all, but rather an epipremnum. These are a vining plant and quite common, but there is a gorgeous species called cebu blue that I think is spot on for Scott. They do have a blue green color that's just chef's kiss Symbolically, I think these match the kind of person that is a constant dreamer because of the way they will continue to grow and endure, creating lush waterfalls of color. They can be relentless. I think they are perfect for someone who reaches for the sky, because in the wild, they will climb up trees.
Also, they can develop fenestrations as they grow. I am not sure if this is true, but I have heard the theory that plant leaves develop those splits or holes in order to make sure the leaves below it still gets the light it needs, and if that doesn't sound like Scott to you, I don't know what does.
I think the practical side of him would enjoy plants that also have a use - so, he's got the basil, and rosemary and sage in sweet little pots by the kitchen windowsills… (did we just enter the cottagecore of TSOF? We might have).
Virgil - Virgil to me is a creature of the big leaves, the Aroid Connoisseur. I stand by what I originally wrote in Verde, which is that he'd be the one with the massive monstera (for which the same fenestration story applies). But in addition to monsteras … I also think he'd be into those large anthuriums, the upright philodendrons. He'd be into leaf shape, and the patterns created by the veining, and the fun textures created by the structures and diverse stems.
But since Virgil is passionate about so many things - lifting but also the precision of art, and engineering but also the release of music, and so on … I see him also have orchids, with a variety of flowers. He sees the beauty in so many things, so I think he'd appreciate the delicate nature of orchids too.
John - I have all over my fics that John's the hoya guy. It's in Verde, but I also have a little mini one shot called Inflorescence here. The hoyas are the ones I can keep alive, so they are the ones I think would do best with John's time away. By nature of the humidity, they would love Tracy Island since many hoya species are from Australia, tropical areas of Asia, and the Pacific Islands. You'll see hoya at vining species either trailing or climbing, often epiphytic hanging off branches of trees. For those not familiar with hoyas, they are sometimes called wax plants and they flower in little clusters (as you might have seen in some of my pictures). They are hardy and durable.
I'll admit, now that I've seen it a lot too, I can't quite separate him from being the one who likes cacti and succulents too, which matches his brand of chaos. He's a busy guy, so any plants he has would need to be able to handle a bit of distraction while he works on his 10 other passions and learns his siblings' too for the hell of it.
Gordon - He's our little naturalist, so I think Gordon in reality would be more a follower of aquaponics, and the types of plants that would do well in his aquariums. Some of these may overlap with his brothers', but his plants would be the ones that would help with his water purification. I think he'd have peace lilies and sygoniums and dracaenas and a PROLIFIC money plant, and probably so many propagations of his brothers' plants. He probably has a spider plant that looks like chaos incarnate with a ton of offsets that really should be separated, but she's his shaggy girl and he loves her.
Alan - I see Alan liking structural plants, the tenacious kind, like himself. Tall ones that grow vertically and baby plants that stay small. Palms and snake plants and aloe and jade, and plants with cool names like the 'samurai sansevieria', but his favorite is the one that looks like Shrek's ears.
I see Kayo being into dark foliage; there's a gorgeous alocasia she probably heard about from Virgil, called "Black Velvet" that feels soooo up her alley. There's a part of me that wants Brains to be into begonia and the many cultivars of. If plants were one of his passions, it just feels like something that would keep him interested since there's always so much happening in that side of the hobby. You know - why not? He's done an entire thesis on the Fibonacci sequence on his begonia escargot. And Grandma feels like calathea - color and patterns that are all about movement. <3
Okay I've rambled enough.

The Picasso Influence
MINI VLOG !!
Hi:> I took a quick visit to the infamous room in CIT-U that was full of murals. The Creative Alliance of Multimedia and Visual Arts Students (CAMVAS) were given the opportunity to paint one of the rooms in the NGE Building, namely "The Picasso Influence" room. It is on the 2nd floor of NGE building right next to the Henri Matisse room. If you're near there, do yourself a favor and take a quick look and appreciate the hard work that our young and aspiring artists from CIT-U created.
In regards with the Picasso room:
Their art piece celebrates the most powerful and impactful artist of the first 50 years of the 1900s. Its purpose is to showcase the evolution of Pablo Picasso's artistic style, including the Blue Period, Rose Period, and Cubism, which have had a significant impact on graphic design, fashion, and even video games. This work represents Picasso's artistry, which paved the way for the abstract art movements of the 1900s and still shapes art in the 21st century.
If you want to see more of this, check out the Facebook page of Creative Alliance of Multimedia and Visual Arts (CAMVAS).
