I’m so glad I watched Voltron with someone who had seen it before/was in the fandom, since it means I get to hear all the popular head canons and jokes(along with their own personal ones)
Also if I thought a ship sounded nice they checked on Ao3 to see if it was a thing, and I wouldn’t get spoiled by the tags
it was also their first time seeing season 8 as well so we got to suffer together<3
I think I may be obsessed with it now, and it’s making me want to write fanfiction for the first time in years…
So you should go watch it before they take it off Netflix, if you want to<33

Enter Merla: Queen of Darkness!!! 🖤✨
I was pretty disappointed when VLD didn't explore the culture and politics of the Galra Empire more, especially after Lotor took the throne, and I was also quite disappointed with Merla's cameo. So I decided to take a crack at her design myself! Some backstory below!!
I made her Acxa's twin sister because while I don't believe it was confirmed, I always thought that 80's Merla's character must have been divided into the four women who became Lotor's generals in VLD, so why not make Merla and Acxa related? Plus in every piece of fiction you need to have at least one set of twins ;) That's just da rules babeyy~
Acxa and Merla are from Planet Drule (a loyal territory of the Galra Empire) and are half-Galra and half-Drule. They are not of royal descent, and since they were children they were looked down on because they are half-breeds. As the oldest, Acxa takes on the responsibility of looking after Merla, who over the years begins to grow restless with the two of them settling for low-ranking positions in the army and living a less than satisfying life.
One day exiled Prince Lotor comes to oversee the planet just as Merla is planning a coup to overthrow the corrupt Drule king. The coup fails, and wanting to protect her sister, Acxa takes the blame even though she had nothing to do with it. When she is sentenced to death, Lotor, seeing the potential and skill Acxa possesses, offers to pardon her in exchange for her loyalty to him, thus saving her life (it is my personal headcanon that Acxa is the first of the generals to be recruited). She accepts and tries to convince Merla to come with her, but Merla refuses and insists on staying, saying that she wants to change things on Drule, and that by leaving Acxa is abandoning her. The two part ways on bad terms, and do not see each other for many years.
Merla eventually succeeds in taking the throne, her followers assassinate the king, and she becomes queen of Drule. She and Acxa have the occasional run-in, which is how Lotor and the other generals get to know her more. There is still lingering resentment between the two sisters, however, particularly on Merla's part. The events of VLD proceed as normal up until the end of season 5, and I personally would like to take out Lotor killing Narti and the generals turning against him. Now emperor, Lotor works tirelessly to unite his people and deal with the growing Galra factions which plot to rise up against him.
News of Lotor's ascent to the throne spreads throughout the universe, and soon Queen Merla is paying a visit to the Empire and demanding an audience with him. She knows all about the Galra factions, including Sendak's Fire of Purification, and proposes that she and Lotor marry in order to combine the forces of both the Galra Empire and Planet Drule. If Lotor accepts, the two nations will become stronger than ever and no one will dare stand against them. If he refuses, Merla will merely seek support from the factions, perhaps even form an alliance with Sendak, who will eventually try to take the Galra throne himself.
What can this mean for not only the Galra Empire, but for Voltron and the Coalition as well?? What can this mean for Lotor and Allura's developing relationship??? For those who haven't seen the 80's show, Queen Merla debuts in the US-made 2nd season. She and Lotor are actually engaged for a time! Merla is cold, cunning, and calculating like Lotor, and perhaps even a little more manipulative. She enjoys being entertained and can on occasion be condescending.
And this is not meant to create any unnecessary love triangle between Merla, Lotor, and Allura. While Merla has people in her life she cares for and she respects Lotor, her first priority is maintaining her seat on the throne and looking after her people, so she really only sees Lotor as a means to gain more power. Lotor recognizes this, because he mostly shares the same mindset as her and can see the benefits of marrying her, regardless of his own feelings. And how does Allura feel about this whole matter?? 👀 Only time will tell, though it is also likely that the princess may be too proud to ever reveal how she truly feels. At the end of the day, I just think it would be fascinating to explore more of the politics of the VLD universe and the complications that come with ruling an entire empire whilst trying to keep alliances and territories intact. Plus it would make for some fun drama! Particularly in the romance category hehe.

A klance ending.
Where after everything is said and done; Allura lives, Lance takes time off to be with his family (not a farmer, just a break). Lance and Allura break up shortly after the war. They both realize they were two hurt people trying to find comfort in each other, but Allura was using Lance as a rebound and Lance realizes they both deserve better. It’s mutual and only a little awkward.
Keith is helping the Blade of Mamora make the transition into a relief group.
He taken on a leadership position (along side Kolvian and Krolia)
Acxa joined as well and together they convince Ezor and Zethrid to join.
Note: I wish more people added them in post canon fics. I think it’s so funny that they are now Keith’s squad. And I think there is a lot of fun that can be had with those relationships. Whether wholesome as Keith unknowingly expands his found family, or angst as the girls compare their new lives to their lives with Lotor, but that’s another post.
Anyway Voltron has their one year post war meeting. And Keith is telling everyone about the Blade work and how they are working with the rest of the Galra to figure things out.
Lance teases him about them asking Keith to lead and Keith turning it down. When Keith confirms, they all laugh.
Everyone stops laughing when Axca, Ezor and Zethrid show up running towards Keith.
Keith is out of his chair in an instant. He worried something horrible has happened. Is Krolia hurt? What about Kolvian? Did something happen with the blade? There are planets with extreme prejudice against the Galra and they’ve had attacks against their relief teams before.
He’s not ready for what leaves their lips.
Apparently after Keith refused to lead, no one has been able to gather enough support to become the leader of the New Galra government. Keith was an easy pick because of his connections to the Blade, Voltron, and the Atlas. He has fallible connections and experience. No one else can gain the over all support he did.
And you know he’s also pretty. Like unfairly so (for a halfbreed) and somehow the remaining candidates come to the conclusion that whoever can gain Keith as their mate will be the one to lead the Bew Galra Empire.
After all if Keith doesn’t want to lead he doesn’t have to, he can just sit in the arm of whoever is leading. Give the people reassurance that they are in good hands.
So know at least 15 different Galra, from members of Zarcon’s old regime, to High ranking Blade members, anyone who wants to lead the Galra. Are making their way here to try and court Keith and or force him into Marriage/Mating.
Shiro is instantly in over protective Big Brother mode. They need to get Keith out of there.
Kolivan and Krolia had sent Axca, Ezor, and Zethrid for that reason and to back Keith up if he had to fight.
The rest of Voltron is moving to try and help Keith.
But Lance
Lance is a mix between indignant for his friend who has somehow become a trophy for people to win. Enrage that there is talk about people trying to force Keith to mate them. And also a burning need to keep Keith safe.
But there are also old feelings. He’s mature enough now to know he’s had a crush on Keith for a long time now. And now Keith is apparently the most desired bachelor in the universe!!!
Anyhow I think you can have a lot of fun with this
You can have Keith dealing with a lot of stupid/rude proposals
Gossipy Girl squad. They’d do anything for Keith but they are also going to Mike each of these horrible proposals
Jealous and protective Lance
Big brother Shiro
Maybe even bring in the Lions being protective
You can also go the route of lance just declaring that he and Keith are engaged/courting.
He’s trying to get everyone to stop bothering Keith.
But it puts these two, who have been pinning for each other for years in a fake dating situation.
Also Lance suddenly is enemy number one for anyone wanting to ascend to the Galra thrown.
I just think it’s a fun idea

galran culture basics
there's some spoilers for sex is better on the moon in this, especially for chapter 20, so if you haven't read that, i recommend doing that first.
the galra are a desert people (hot and cold). they are hardy and used to harsh conditions. they thrive in them and are incredibly adaptive (but they despise humidity (keith has no issues with humidity, given he does not have fur — except for his ears — tho if asked, he prefers a dry heat)). they get a winter coat and they shed, which is seen as normal, but they take care to brush themselves out so they're not shedding all over the place. a galra who doesn't groom is seen as a rude slob.
speaking of, among adults, grooming (here solely meaning "the act of cleaning/brushing") is reserved for family and partners only (👀). a galra reaching to brush back a tuft of fur/hair of someone they're not related to would be considered a very blatant and daring flirt. it's the equivalent of saying, “hey, you wanna get out of here?” probably accompanied by an eyebrow wiggle. incidentally, with certain body language, touching someone else's hair/fur can come off as an insult (comparison: condescendingly picking lint off of someone/brushing off their shoulders), or as if the galra is a child (parent behavior).
unlike humans, it is not weird/embarrassing for a parent to groom their child in public, nor for two adults to groom each other. grooming takes a while and having family/lovers to do it for you is a point of pride in galran culture.
younger galra can get away with their friends grooming them bc they're still kids, but as they go through puberty, they become more self aware. they stop letting their friends do this and start minding their actions.
(once, Acxa (3yo) came home with a rubber band in her hair. she despised having her hair gathered and kept pulling off her hair ties. her teacher used a rubber band to get her hair together, and she couldn't pull it off. Acxa came home in tears and her dad nearly had a conniption. he, however, calmed down, helped his daughter, lodged a complaint, and had Acxa moved to a different teacher. he then worked with the school association to institute a ban on touching the hair of (initially only) galran kids without express permission from the parents, which at this point was only the three siblings. (they eventually expanded the rule to include all kids as other parents became involved an concerned.)
the teacher was also suspended without pay, but unfortunately not fired. Acxa also got a haircut that did not require hair ties, and she was much happier after that. turned out she enjoyed very much having her dad do her hair, but hated wearing anything in it. (Krolia was away on a mission at this time, but kept apprised).)
(Takashi, on the other hand, was the one who wanted things in his hair and often went to school with headbands and barrettes. other kids couldn't even tease him bc he felt no shame about it. he had long hair until he joined the garrison and cut it.)
galra have strong stomachs and can even handle small amounts of toxins that would take down other animals their size. and bc of the scarcity of food on their home planet, food has great importance. galra sharing food is not taken lightly. in the past, two tribes of galra breaking bread was a declaration of a strong alliance.
aside from food, the galra value strength and smarts, especially when combined. they like to settle disputes with a fair 1v1 when they can't come to an agreement. they also hold verbal agreements to a higher standard than written ones. spoken word is an oath, so galra are very careful with what they say and would rather express themselves with action than words.
that being said, the worst thing to a galra is someone who goes back on their word. they are seen as scum, and shunned by the populace at large.
as a result of the value of spoken word, a lot of galra history was passed down via storytelling/songs before they developed written word to record history, and is still used to this day to teach.
if they're aware someone is a warrior, it is not unusual for a galra to challenge someone they just met to a spar, as fighting for galra, is an excellent way to get to know someone. (a challenge is also used as flirting, so if the fight drags on, or the galra refuses to stay down, it's extremely likely the galra is flirting.)
edit bc i forgot: galra see fingers extended as a threat. when reaching for someone else, claws are tucked in due to the hazard of them (Keith did not used to have this problem, clearly). gestures of affection (caresses) will be given with the knuckles rather than the fingertips.
courting between galra has a heavy leaning towards proving oneself as a capable partner/mate. in the past, there were courting rituals where galra would go on a quest to bring back something difficult to acquire for the person they intended to court. some galra still observe this courting ritual, others are more modern about it.
that being said, while galra do not hoard, they are very territorial of what is seen as theirs.
galra are typically full of wanderlust. this is because they spent several hundreds of thousands of years of evolutionary development as a nomadic species, moving about whenever any place they settled in got too harsh to live in or ran out of food.
any galra looking to make a home will never settle quite so easily (tho exceptions exist). they do not like to sit still, and prolonged confinement will lead to adverse effects in their mental health. (Keith is not confined, he has a whole planet to explore, so this does not apply to him. he has plenty of enrichment.)
galra have a "berserk mode", for lack of a better word. when in dire straits, a galra can essentially "activate" a part of their biology to overcome whatever caused them to slip into that state.
in this survival state, they seemingly have enhanced senses (essentially, it enables them to shut out everything but what they focus on) and increased strength. this will last until either the bitter end or until the situation is dealt with. if the galra survives, they will immediately seek a safe haven/help and most likely will be rendered comatose until the body can repair itself or someone helps them. depending on their condition, they might be able to go without sleep or rest until they reach safety, even if it takes days.
it is very difficult to break a galra out of this reaction. they need to feel safe before they can revert to normal.
incidentally, a lot of galra are predisposed to cleithrophobia (fear of being trapped). 👀
Keith … is in a category of his own. seeing as he's half human, his biology is quite unique. instead of his survival mode activating only when he's threatened, it can also happen when he's horny, angry, or otherwise overly stimulated.
while Keith knows berserk mode exists, he does not know he's accessing his own. there is not much known about galra who are half human. the war has discouraged people from involvement with galra. like in the show, the Blades are tolerated, but not very welcomed, even almost 400 years later, so they tend to keep their masks on throughout missions. as such, not many galra have mated with humans (though humans make up a large portion of other species that do mate with galra) and Keith's family has encountered a lot of discrimination for it.
Empress Allura, by making the Blade the crown's personal army, is looking to fix this. at least until the blame of recent attempts on the lives of those she loves came to land on the Blade's shoulders.
hope everyone enjoyed this! thanks so much for all the love for this (and my other) fic, it means a lot. if you've got questions, i, of course, would love to hear them and will answer them to the best of my ability!
(btw there is a second part to the altean post, but i can't reveal that yet as it contains major spoilers. it'll come up in story soon enough.)

Disclaimer: I don't own Voltron Legendary Defender.
Author Note: This is Krolivan.
"Mistletoe"
Irritation wasn't what Keith expected to feel about the direction the universe was going in, especially since the Galra Empire was defeated and the United Galra Federation had joined the rest of the Universe under the Voltron Coalition. In truth, he was only irritated that his mom and Kolivan were kept so busy that they barely had time to spend with each other. As a newly bonded pair, it was imperative that they weren't separated for long periods of time, especially since Krolia was expecting, which was something Keith was excited about. He was going to be a big brother!
He did notice the little signs of affection they were able to exchange. As they passed in the corridors, there were brushes of their claws. As they waited for meetings to start, Krolia would lean over and briefly nuzzle Kolivan with a soft purr. After the meeting before they left, Krolia would wrap her arms around Kolivan and lay her head on Kolivan's chest, listening to his heartbeat. Kolivan would constantly check on Krolia and their unborn kit. Krolia allowed his hovering as she knew Galra pregnancies were difficult, especially in the first few months.
Keith knew what he had to do, and the holiday season on Earth would provide the perfect way to get Krolia and Kolivan to spend time together. He didn't have much time, so he quickly wrote down a guest list so he didn't miss anyone. He set about sending invites to Shiro, Adam, Lance, Hunk, Pidge, Allura, Coran, Romelle, Veronica, Thace, Ulaz, Antok, Regris, Acxa, Ezor, Zethrid, Matt, and of course, Krolia and Kolivan. He sent Veronica the invites for the MFE pilots as well. In no time, he started receiving positive responses. Everyone was coming!
Keith set about setting up a few decorations, making sure that a few sprigs of mistletoe were hung in various doorways. He knew that his mother would know what mistletoe was about. He just hoped everything worked out according to his plan.
%%% Later That Night
Krolia noticed that Keith was keeping an eye on her, and she wasn't sure it wasn't just because she was expecting. She knew Keith was even more protective over her than even Kolivan was! It was probably why he got them personally.
Speaking of Kolivan, he was by her side since they arrived, and she wouldn't have it any other way. He escorted her around, constantly having one arm wrapped around her waist with his hand on the side of her baby bump. She did notice the mistletoe hanging in a majority of the doorways and gently guided Kolivan over to one.
She turned to face him, wrapping her arms around his neck. He, in turn, wrapped his other arm around her, tugging her a bit closer. She titled her head up, clearly wanting a kiss, and Kolivan obliged, capturing her lips in a kiss that showed the depth of his love for her (and their unborn kit).

Ok ok so have yall seen those fanarts of Keith as one of lotors generals? Hope so cause that’s kinda based off what I’m talking about. Buckle up cause this is long and I didn’t reread it so sorry if there is any mistakes
What if Keith worked with lotor as one of his generals? Who would be the red paladin? I think it would be allura, or lance would be in red and allura would be in blue. Keith could’ve known shiro on earth but after the Kerberos mission incident, Keith tried looking for him like in cannon but couldn’t. Then, somehow bc I’m not sure yet, Keith gets ‘kidnapped,’ by lotor/the galra. He becomes one of lotors generals alongside acxa, ezor, zethrid and narti
The paladins got into space similarly to cannon. Pidge gets the Voltron’s signals, they kidnap shiro but PIDGE finds the blue lion, then they get shot into space and become the paladins of Voltron alongside allura and coran
They catch the attention of lotor and his generals since, oh shit, voltrons back and oh wait!! Keith knows the black paladin for some reason? Plus the galra empire but yk this ain’t about them
So it goes down how it did in canon for how the paladins meet lotor and technically the generals, I don’t remember how this happened so it’s vague, sorry, and then they meet Keith. Shiro can barely recognize Keith. It can’t be him. That can be the same like 12 year old he knew all those years ago. This is someone completely different.. right? He certainly looks different..
I think Keith would probably looks more galran rather the human. Example being yellow sclera, pointy irises(like a cat), maybe even white pupils, and his teeth and nails are sharper, almost like claws, his hair has a purple tint to it, like his mother’s. Basically he appears human but the more they look at him the less human he seems
The paladins, specifically and mainly shiro, end up having to fight him like the do acxa or ezor or zethrid. And frankly, shiro feels terrible about it. No one but shiro and lance knew who Keith was. But lance didn’t really like him because of their one sided rivalry. So shiro had to explain how he knew Keith. How that cannot be the same boy he helped and cared for. It can’t be his little brother.
Then lotor goes kinda crazy and says he’s gonna destroy the galra! Which is yk.. definitely something to say! So Keith and the others help haggar and the empire, like in canon. But Keith questions it like acxa eventually did. So he ends up helping the paladins, who still barely trust him, which is fair. But he does something that gains their trust. Maybe keeping lance safe by risking his life. Keith ends up growing to trust shiro again. He only ‘stopped’ trusting him because he was left behind. And he had worked with lotor, who really made it seem like he, shiro, was untrustworthy
But he isn’t needed with the paladins, until shiro fucking dies but I’ll get to that in a second, so he helps the BoM. Where he finds his momma then gets stuck on that damn whale thing. But he gets kosmo and finds out krolia is his mom
But then shiro goes missing. So he has to help the paladins. But he’s not the leader, no no no. That’s lance. Allura is in blue and Keith is in red.
That’s all I have right now lolol
- Vee 💜
I need to figure out your account if I don't already know it and I need to be ur mutual right now literally how do you come up with this stuff it's so good holy shit
I can absolutely see all of this happening and their is a good chance imma make fan art later.

I feel like a big part of Allura's character being done dirty and feeling inconsistent comes from the writers just not really being able to write female characters very well.
What do I mean?
Well, Voltron's cast has always been primarily male (which makes sense since the og show was from the 80s) but vld gives us quite a few "strong female characters". The problem comes when you notice most of those characters are minor like Krolia or Acxa or Veronica. This means the characters can be depicted as strong and badass with any more indepth characters moments being conveniently off screen (like Krolia & Keith's time on the space whale, Veronica's time worrying over Lance's disappearance & trying to protect earth, Acxa's redemption)
But there are still female characters within the main cast and the contrast between how they are written really gives an insight to the struggle the vld writers had. The contrast between how Pidge and Allura are written is alarming.
Pidge, even after her reveal, is still written in an androgynous masc-leaning way. The characters don't even refer to her with any pronouns for seasons after her "reveal", its only in the last few seasons that the writers seemingly remember Pidge is supposed to use she/her pronouns. This is probably a byproduct of the fact that the archetype Pidge fills (the smart guy) is commonly a masc one.
Meanwhile, Allura's characterisation is butchered because as the designated "main female character" the writers just threw every single character trope at her, probably trying to make her feel "deep" and multifaceted but just made her feel inconsistent, busy, and butchered instead.
She's "the leader" initially when the paladins are first starting out but Shiro fills that role quickly so she is put in a more "support" role. She seems to be some type of "chosen one" considering her ability to connect w/ the balmera, negate haggars magic, and her natural talent w/ alchemy (the explanation seems to be that it's because of her lineage, as Alfor was the best alchemist of his time, but we never seem/know enough about Alfor or his own abilities to get a tangible grasp of what Allura's capabilities are. It's just whatever is convenient to the plot like bringing Lance back to life). She falls into the "damsel in distress" trope at the end of season 1. She's made the center of a very disingenuous and forced feeling love triangle. They try to give her a racism arc??? But fail spectacularly bc they never have like a proper heartfelt conversation about her bias, where it comes from, her recognising the damaging affects it has (the conversation she has with Keith abt it at the end of season 2 feels very "You're one of the good ones" coded which is very icky) and then the writers seemingly forget it ever happened (also it lasts like 3 episodes and consists mainly of her just glaring vaguely in Keith's direction instead of any actual confrontation/conflict between them)
Her character is all over the place. One second she is being put in "traditional" female character tropes (which she as a princess trained in combat, diplomacy, and running an entire society of people, should not be put in/have trouble with) like the damsel in distress and the love triangle. The next, she is depicted as unstoppable and a fix-all maggufin like with her alchemy & connection to quintessence. Then they also try to have her work through personal issues/flaws (which I think is what her racism arc was supposed to be???) But they never go into detail & explore said personal issues (which btw were never really alluded to before hand, kind of came out of nowhere)
TLDR: Allura's character was butchered because the writers thought mashing together a bunch of random character tropes without any deeper thought/development = interesting characterisation when really it just made her inconsistent and confusing.

@sockdooe, Yep, that's the one. No offense to the author, but it's really irritating to see a fic tagged with relationships that, as of two-hundred thousand words in, still haven't been so much as hinted at.
Would this author appreciate it if someone tagged a two-hundred thousand-plus-word Shiro/Keith or Lance/Hunk fic Keith/Lance? I sincerely doubt it.
Be courteous to your fellow fans and tag things properly, please. I don't think that's too much to ask.
My biggest issue with "Curtis" is that it's glaringly obvious that Shiro was married off to him at the absolute last minute in an attempt on the part of the showrunners to win online brownie points for being the first to depict a gay wedding in a show aimed at children. And, to try to cover their asses after being slammed with accusations of Burying Their Gays for killing Adam.
They used Shiro, who they planned to permanently kill after confirming that he's gay, as nothing more than a tool for their own personal benefit. And, it deservedly backfired on them spectacularly.
I still love Shiro/Keith, but, at my heart, I've found that I'm a multishipper for the both of them. Especially Shiro. Had the writers put in the effort, they could have made me care about, or, at the very least, tolerate his afterthought of a marriage. Shiro deserves to be happy. He deserves love. Even if I hate that it comes with the implication that he left his dream of exploring space and his newfound sense of purpose in being part of the Coalition and defending the universe behind to stay on Earth and become a house-husband.
Instead, "Curtis" is such a non-entity, his name is never once spoken onscreen. He and Shiro never have a conversation outside of shouting impersonal orders at one another in the heat of battle. And, he isn't even drawn consistently from one frame to the next.
For the life of me, I cannot tell if "Curtis" is meant to be in his late twenties, or his forties.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He also has no personality to speak of, outside of maybe liking animals, per a conversation he has with Acxa, rather than his "future husband", and Shiro only looks away from the Atlas's console interface to make eye-contact with him once.
Tumblr media
In an entire thirteen episode season.
The showrunners had an opening to give Shiro and "Curtis" an interaction that would have hinted at some degree of chemistry, or even basic platonic affection for each other. When Shiro is slapped across the bridge of his ship- something I still deeply despise- "Curtis" could have rushed to his aid, expressing concern for his captain. Instead, it's Veronica, an actual character, who is at Shiro's side, checking on him and helping him to right himself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Curtis" does nothing more than sit and stand on the sidelines, soundlessly gaping at the events playing out in front of him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That is why I call him a piece of set dressing. His only purpose is to fill out Shiro's bridge crew. They could have utilized any species of alien, a Taujeerian, a Balmeran, one of those deer-esque people from Season Three's Changing of the Guard, for the exact same purpose and absolutely nothing would have changed.
Since there seemed to be some sort of unspoken rule forbidding the show from having more than one LGBTQ+ main lead/Paladin, it honestly would have made more sense for Shiro to marry Coran.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They, at least, have a relationship.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Low bar, I know.
And, that's if you believe that Shiro needed to be in a romantic relationship for his sexuality to matter.
I don't.
Shiro, on his own, is enough. Adam dying didn't take Shiro's homosexuality away and turn Shiro straight. Shiro is still a gay man, whether he kisses a human male-shaped piece of set dressing onscreen or not.
I've made my feelings on Shiro/Adam fairly clear. Realistically, unless Adam underwent some intensive therapy and soul-searching to learn how to be more open, warm, and compassionate with Shiro, they never would have rekindled their relationship, even if Adam had lived and the desire to do so was still there. He and Shiro parted ways on poor terms, and while Shiro didn't appear to resent Adam for it, there would, undoubtedly, be lingering feelings of bitterness that a tearful reunion and rush down the aisle wouldn't resolve.
Shiro was brutally punished by the show's narrative for choosing his dream over Adam. Maybe Adam would feel some sort of regret for that, had he seen his ex return to Earth with a scarred face, prematurely silver hair, and one arm. But, going off of Adam's established characterization and how he acts like he's the rational man while Shiro is an irrational and hysterical woman, the temptation on Adam's part to lord the consequences of Shiro's choice over Shiro- "If you had just listened to me, maybe none of that would have happened"- would very likely surge to the forefront over any desire to offer comfort.
And, that's if Adam hadn't fully moved on and started a new relationship in the interim. Shiro's time in space amounted to two years for him, while it was five years on Earth for Adam. That's an ample enough span to have mourned his lost love, and begun at least considering getting back out there and dating, again.
What it seems to come down to is that people who are vehemently against the mere idea of Shiro and Keith being romantically involved with each other and have no desire to explore any other prospects because their true focus lies elsewhere (Keith, Lance, and pairing them together), but still wish to maintain the guise of wanting happiness for Shiro, pair him off by default with his canon love interests. Regardless of the fact that Adam was shown to be a not particularly great partner, and these authors have to invent a personality for "Curtis" whole-cloth, since he is completely lacking one in the source material.
They don't care how transparent it is that the showrunners hated Shiro and mistreated him at every turn, but still wanted to use his sexuality to garner praise and online asspats. They don't care that the sloppy, half-assed manner in which the wedding was handled unintentionally implies that married life aged Shiro twenty years in the span of six.

(As my sister said, they made Shiro look like he could be his own grandfather.
What did this show have against bishounens? How do you take a supernaturally gorgeous man and turn him into your average middle-aged salary man from any given manga or anime? He's supposed to be thirty-two, here, not fifty-three. I hate this aged-up design. Sincerely. The glasses could have been cute, though I don't understand why the staff needed the disabled man to have failing eyesight on top of everything else. ["You took my hand." Then his whole arm. "What more do you want?"] But, the hair and chin scruff are mortally offensive.
Just the other day, I came across a fan redesign that's a vast improvement on all fronts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shiro, sweetie, I'm so sorry that these clowns insisted on treating you like garbage all the way up to the bitter, loathsome end. TT___TT )
All K/L authors care about is sticking Shiro in a "happy" relationship, no matter how out-of-character, and slapping a flimsy Band-aid on his trauma in service of their ship. You can't treat Lance and Keith like the most depressed people in the universe who only have each other as everyone else has moved on to lead happy, fulfilling lives, if you also have Shiro isolating and buried in his work, believing himself to be a "broken monster" unworthy of love.

Hello! I'm so happy you're back and I was wondering if you could help me find a fic?
From what I can remember it's a multi part fic (the author didn't put chapters but separate parts) and it takes place after everything and everyone is back on earth. Everyone hangs out in a cabin and Keith wasn't gonna be there but he ends up coming anyway and it makes lance super happy. Allura is still alive I think she's in love with romelle. Adam is alive too.
There's a part where Keith and Lance cuddle watching movies, but also a part where they spend the countdown to new years on the roof. There's a thing about them having to eat a baggies of grapes???? Before the countdown ends.
Anyway it's very cute and I would be so grateful if you found it for me! Thank you once again I really appreciate all the help
hey anon, this may be your fic but im not 100% sure! this fic has been seared into my brain for years but the author recently merged all the ficlets into one long one!! hopefully this is the right one but if not maybe someone in the comments can suggest other works? - em

when the team gets together to stay in adam's winter cabin for the holidays, keith doesn't know what to expect. the war is over, but the effects of it are far from gone, and they're all still struggling to get used to their new lives. as usual, he finds himself spending most of his time with lance, but he's surprised when some rather unexpected feelings start bubbling up to the surface. the more time he spends with lance, the stronger those feelings grow, until they're so undeniable that he's forced to come to terms with them. and somewhere in the midst of hot chocolate parties and snowball fights and sledding adventures, keith learns how to fall in love.

PART 2: as someone who just finished all 8 seasons of voltron legendary defender in ONE week….i need to get some stuff off my chest (part 1 here)
- romelle is sooo bi and deserved more screentime like the writers failed her
- romellura RULES!
- i fear the end of season 6 got sloppy and boring which led to season 7 & 8 disappointing
- im sorry but keith and shiro are more like brothers or father/son dynamic to me (my opinion pls don’t come for me)
- rlly love how they all have a backgrounds and ethnicities like when lance said “im just a boy from cuba” i smiled hehe
- kosmo is the best thing that ever happened to keith (dog dad fr)
- krolia is hot but deadbeat idk
- i loved the blade of marmora
- idk is it weird that i thought some galras were attractive as hell? (lotor….acxa…she’s so fine……keith ik he’s half but)
- idc james griffin might’ve been an asshole but yall can’t lie he’s HOT
there’s so much more i wanna say but i genuinely don’t even remember bc of how fast i watched the series

“Love, please.” Allura pulled on a belt, ignoring her calls. “‘Llura.” She shoved her foot into a boot, snapping the buckles and then reaching for the next.
“Allura, at least look at me.” That, finally, made Allura spin on her heel to face Acxa, who was still dressed in her bedclothes. Her eyes were pleading, softer than Allura had ever seen outside of their bed.
“You don’t have to do this. All those years of fighting, of being stuck in that pod…” she trailed off helplessly, her hands balled tight at her sides. “We’re supposed to be done, okay? You’re supposed to be resting and everything is supposed to be—“
“Be what?” Allura demanded, now fully suited up. She reached for her last object, a light-bow, resting barely-used on the wall. “The universe won’t just stop suffering because the main war ended. We knew this would happen.”
Acxa's hands moved from being clenched at her sides to squeezing her arms, and she stared at Allura’s grip around her sleek white bow.
“Why can’t someone else handle it this time?” she tried again. “Why does it always need to be you?”
Allura paused, turning to stare at her lover with eyes as bright and as blue and as beautiful as Acxa had remembered from when they first met in battle, her pink marks flashing, her head lifted regally high, and oh.
“If I do not fight, then who will?” Allura said.
Acxa looked away from her, this woman and the laurel leaves that gleamed at her brow.
“I love you, but this is who I am,” the princess quietly explained, her hand coming to rest on Acxa's shoulder. Acxa turned away from her touch. The weight felt more like a false promise than an assurance.
“Darling—“
“Just... go.”
Allura sighed, and after a brief moment’s hesitation, walked to the door and opened it to the moonlight beyond.
Acxa could only spare a single glance at her retreating back. She was haloed by the moon, her bow luminous, and Acxa simply could not hope to contain this wild thing she’d always been.
And why would she?

he avoids walking around in his human form too much. here, in deep space, it stands out far more than his galra form ever will, even on conquered planets.
it takes him a long time before he's fully comfortable to shift freely around the generals, and even then, he only does so in the complete privacy of their ship.
the first time was definitely the best.
he'd informed lotor and acxa of his decision to let zethrid and ezor know, and the next time he found himself in the lounge, during one of their rare respites, had decided to take the opportunity to shift back to human.
it actually was quite a while before anyone entered, to the point in which he'd forgotten that he'd shifted at all. he was only reminded when ezor walked in, took one look at him, and shrieked.
to be fair, seeing a foreign alien dressed in your fellow general's armor and absentmindedly scrolling on a datapad must have come as quite a shock.
he'd confirmed the rumors of his status as a shifter later, but in the moment, it was one of the funniest things he'd ever done.

Day 2: Sci-fi Fusion
Tags: @loturaweek2024 Homestuck crossover au, blink and you miss it background Ezor/Zethrid, blink and you miss it background Shiro/Keith, loneliness, yearning, chatfic, time shenanigans, one (1) raunchy joke
--- Read on AO3 ---
-- survivingSovereign [SS] began pestering millenniumRemainder [MR] at 9:09 --
SS: How long is it now?
MR: A day less than the last time you asked.
SS: I miss you.
MR: I’m right here, same as I’ve always been.
SS: You know that’s not what I mean
SS: I’m so ready to finally see you face to face. To touch you and hug you and kiss you with more than just x’s and o’s. I want to hear your voice the way it sounds naturally, not over a microphone, I want to see more than pictures and video recordings, I want to stop being alone in this stupid empty castle.
MR: I know.
MR: I miss you too.
SS: Pidge and Lance have both been bouncing off the metaphorical walls about the ‘hot new upcoming game’ that’s featured in such reputable publishings as GameBro Magazine.
MR: Ha!
SS: I feel bad for not telling them.
MR: They might understand.
MR: They also might not.
SS: I know.
SS: They wouldn’t.
SS: Keith has no one to lose except for Shiro, and he’s coming in with us, but he’s never been the most pragmatic sort.
SS: Everyone else loves their families and friends so much.
SS: It feels cruel.
MR: It is not a cruelty of our own doing.
SS: I know.
MR: *kiss*
SS: Thank you.
SS: How about your end? The girls excited to team up against us?
MR: Oh, most assuredly.
MR: Acxa is putting on airs of being too mature to get excited over a game, but Zethrid and Ezor have already begun to crow over how thoroughly our team is going to squash you.
SS: Haha, they’re welcome to try! Though, in the end we’ll all be on the same team, I suppose.
MR: Another deception.
SS: Another deception. But it does give us the chance to play starcrossed lovers for a bit, mm?
MR: That it does <3
SS: <3
-- This session is IDLE! --
SS: Lotor?
MR: Sorry. I got to worrying again.
SS: About the team balancing?
MR: It’s supposed to be an even number. We’ve less than a month now until the game releases for our friends in the past, and we still don’t have the twelfth member.
MR: We have six women and five men. Although reproduction as well as the production of ourselves and our guardians will be entirely through ectobiology, teams are kept at a balanced gender ratio meant to imitate the conditions necessary for natural reproduction of the god-species in the new world.
SS: Lotor.
MR: And I think to myself, maybe one of our guardians is not actually a guardian but instead a player. Coran, although a fatherly figure to you (despite the thousand year gap between your respective lives), was not your actual father so maybe he would enter the game.
SS: Lotor
MR: Or maybe Pidge will bring their brother in with them. She loves him very dearly, it would make sense for her to bring him along, and for them to play a game together. He’s friends with Shiro and Keith, he’s the right gender, roughly the same age as everyone else, it would be more than possible, but I’ve spoken with Pidge more than I usually do recently and they haven’t said a word about introducing their brother to any of the group chats and we’re running out of time.
SS: Lotor…
MR: It’s gotten to the point where I’ve started wondering if Narti’s service animal is going to bat at the keyboard of one of her spare computers and he’ll be her server player.
SS: Lotor!!!!
MR: Sorry.
SS: It will be OKAY!
SS: You’ve said it yourself a dozen times: the game does not allow for human error when it weaves its cords of fate.
SS: A twelfth player will be selected for us, the teams will be balanced, and it will be fine.
MR: Allura
MR: What if it’s not that?
MR: Twelve is the maximum number of players, but there are perfectly viable sessions with fewer.
MR: What if it’s ten?
MR: What if one of you dies?
SS: No one is going to die.
MR: The game is cruel. It could just as easily take one from our number to balance the teams as it could add another. I still think you are likely to be our Time player, so it can’t take you, but what if I’m wrong?
MR: Allura, what if you die?
SS: I am not going to die.
SS: The fact that I am here, in this empty, echoing castle, a thousand years after the end of the world, stranded in the middle of this empty, empty ocean half a world away from you, is proof that I am destined to enter into the game.
SS: Pidge and Narti and Zethrid and Acxa and Ezor are not going to die.
SS: Like you said, the most likely course of action is that Matt will play the game with Pidge and be their server player, or they his. Even number, balanced genders.
SS: It will be okay, Lotor.
MR: I want so desperately to believe that.
SS: It Will.
MR: Thank you.
SS: <3
MR: <3
SS: Also I still think I’m more of a Space player.
SS: Can you name anyone else in our group suited for frog breeding? I can’t.
SS: Maybe Shiro, but as I understand it male Space players are exceedingly rare, and I still think he’s more likely to be Blood
MR: I think you are unequivocally suited to be the breeder
SS: LOTOR 0///////0
MR: I’m afraid you set yourself up for that one, my love.
SS: You are incorrigible!
MR: Yes.
MR: But you like it <3
SS: Love it, really <3
-- This session is IDLE! --
-- millenniumRemainder [MR] resumed pestering survivingSovereign [SS] at 21:53 --
MR: Allura?
MR: Why are you still up?
MR: It’s well past sunset on your half of the globe.
SS: I’m scared.
SS: Lotor I am scared of my own fickle heart.
SS: What if we’re not really in love with each other?
SS: It’s so cliche, isn’t it?
SS: The last two survivors after the end of the world.
SS: The new adam and eve, fated for one another, meant to repopulate the world.
SS: Or the next world, in our case.
SS: What if we just tricked ourselves into these feelings and the moment we see other people it… fades?
MR: We’ve spoken with others. Sent photos and voice recordings. You know our friends as intimately as you know me, thanks to this damned ocean that stretches between us.
SS: I know, but
SS: You’re the only one I can talk to. Actually talk to.
SS: Voice recordings aren't the same as a video chat.
MR: Do you want to video chat right now?
SS: I don’t know.
MR: Allura
MR: I love you.
MR: That’s not going to change.
SS: But what if it does?!
SS: What if you get the chance to have an actual, real conversation with someone else and you realize you were never attracted to me, just lonely and latching onto your only option? You and Narti are so close, and I think Acxa has a crush on you, and then there’s Hunk, of course, who wouldn’t fall in love with Hunk, and
MR: Allura.
SS: I just
MR: Allura.
MR: I love you.
SS: I love you too.
SS: So, so much Lotor.
MR: Then we will be alright.
MR: The game is going to make us miserable enough without us helping it along.
MR: But it will also bring joy.
MR: Because I will get to see you.
MR: I will get to hold you.
MR: I will get to murmur your name against your skin and hold your hand and stand side by side with you as we battle for our lives and our rights to have a future together.
MR: We are going to have a future together, Allura.
MR: The hour is late. Your own thoughts conspire against you.
MR: Go to sleep, my love, and rest knowing that my feelings for you are unchanging.
SS: You’re right.
MR: I often am.
SS: :P
SS: I love you.
MR: I love you too.
SS: I miss you.
MR: We’ll see each other soon.
MR: Goodnight my love. xoxo
SS: xoxo

Hey do u have any more headcanons about lotors generals that your willing to share?
My original post on this topic is quite comprehensive so I'm not sure how much else of significance I have to add, but I suppose there are a few small things?
Ezor is the most tactile of the bunch (which is saying something, given that the galra are very physically affectionate as a general rule) and she often drapes herself over the others with little regard for the importance and/or delicacy of what they are doing at any given time. Narti was the most touch-averse of the group, for reasons I am yet to disclose.
Kova has obvious favourites in the group: Narti & Lotor for cuddles, and Zethrid for play fighting. Ezor takes Kova's general ambivalence to her existence terribly personally, having tried (and failed) for decaphoebs to ingratiate herself to their feline mascot, while Acxa and Kova have an unspoken understating that to encroach on the other's space is akin to a declaration of war.
Acxa has an exceptional poker face in all things EXCEPT the lowest of stakes. Gun to her head? Cool as a cucumber. Friendly game of cards? She becomes the most predictable member of the group by far.
Zethrid offered her blade to Ezor within their first phoeb of acquaintance. Ezor took and returned it somewhat flippantly, with complete disregard for the sincerity with which Zethrid would proceed to court her, only to fall head over heels for her big buff girlfriend embarrassingly quickly. They are disgustingly happy together.
Lotor, Acxa, & Ezor often play with/braid each other's hair: if you're thinking "Ezor doesn't actually have hair" you would be correct, but she used to before she shed her skin for the first time, and misses it dearly.
Zethrid has the greatest weakness for cute things—the smaller the better—and is absolutely the friend who will try to pet any and every little animal the group come across (often at the detriment to her own safety, as many alien fauna are not receptive to large unknown galra attempting to manhandle them).

46. Lotura
glad to see you're active again!
Lotura — my great love. I was glad to write smth about them. Never get tired of this pairing. Here you are! Thanks for the request!
Lotor was standing in the hangar. His soldiers were bustling around, completing preparations for departure. The Prince himself did not take his eyes off the door. Won't she come?
“My prince,” Acxa came up to him. “Everything is ready for the flight.”
Lotor nodded curtly.
“Thank you, Acxa. A couple more doboshes.”
“Of course, my prince. Vrepit-Sa.”
Acxha walked away, and Lotor didn’t even notice the long sad look she gave him. He was still looking at the hangar doors. His posture expressed confidence: legs wide apart, hands behind his back, chin upturned and a determined look. But despite this, his soul was full of confusion. She has to come, he thought.
Ticks became doboshes again and again, and he really began to think that it was stupid to wait for the one he was so eager to see. But he stubbornly stared at the door, unwilling to admit one simple truth: that first kiss meant nothing…
Behind him he heard whispers: the generals began to lose patience. Lotor glanced over his shoulder. Acxa crossed her arms over her chest and stared gloomily at his back.
“Take your seats,” he ordered, and turned away before Acxa rolled her eyes in annoyance.
Lotor knew what they were thinking: their prince had completely lost his mind from love. Perhaps. But he flew away only the stars know how far, and hoped that Princess would come at least to say goodbye. Engines rumbled behind him. Well, he would have to accept that he wouldn’t see Allura.
Lotor’s lips tightened into a thin thread, and he abruptly turned on his heels to sit in the chief pilot’s seat.
“Lotor!”
The hangar door finally opened, letting the princess inside. She was running towards him, tangled in her skirt. And he, terrified of the joy he felt when he saw Allura, took a few steps in her direction.
The princess practically fell into his arms.
“I… couldn’t… not to say goodbye,” she said breathlessly. “It’s… Coran. He…”
“It doesn’t matter, Allura. You are here.”
“Here,” she smiled, looking up into his eyes.
He ran his palms down her shoulders and took her hands in his. He brought it to his lips and kissed her knuckles, never taking his eyes off her for a moment.
Allura stood on tiptoe, reached out to him, closing the distance. Lotor stifled a sigh of relief. She came. She’s here. She misses him as much as he misses her. Lotor bent down to her and pressed his lips to hers, feeling tenderness and gratitude.
The kiss deepened, Lotor felt the warmth that spread throughout his body. He didn’t want to break away from Allura, and he held her closer to him.
Finally, barely able to breathe from an overabundance of feelings, he let Allura from his embrace, touching her lips with a light kiss for the last time.
“I’ll be waiting for you,” Allura whispered.
“And I’ll come back for you.”
Lotor lightly squeezed Allura’s fingers and walked towards the ship, noticing how his generals quickly rushed to their seats. Great… They saw everything. Okay. Let it be.
Flying out of the hangar of the Castle of Lions, Lotor did not hold back a happy smile.

thinking about the vld wing au... I bet Lotor's wings are like, obnoxiously beautiful but I also bet he puts a lot of work into them but then acts like their beauty is effortless. he's heard stories of how beautiful Altean wings are- or were in the past. the wings of the Altean colonists have lost their vivid colors over generations- most have feathers that are mundane colors- browns, blacks and whites.
(Romelle is born with a few brightly colored feathers scattered about her wings. A sign of things to come, only no one knows what.)
Honerva had brightly colored wings- feathers of a deep, shining black, but also vivid yellows and blues. She lost her feathers when she died and became Honerva, but the wing structure remains. Her bone wings cannot fly, but they certainly exude menace.
(When she returns to being Honerva, she steals life energy from others until her wings are healed. But her feathers are now an ashen gray.)
Acxa had one of her wings cut off as punishment when she was still a recruit, for showing kindness to the people of the colony she was first posted on. She was brought into Lotor's fold afterwards, alongside the wingless Narti and Zethrid, whose wings are too small to fly. Only Ezor can fly, but her wings are featherless, more like a bat's than a bird's.
(Lotor long promises Acxa a prosthetic, but never delivers. It is not until she joins the crew of the Atlas that one is built for her, and she can return to the skies of her childhood.)
Kolivan's wings are a deep gray, with red like a vivid splash across his wings. Antok has no wings. He was born without them. There are many in the Blade of Marmora with ruined or lost wings- it is common in the Empire for one or both of them to be removed as a punishment. The Empire looks down on those without wings, but the Blade is a haven for them.
(Thace's wings are removed when he's caught, but he never could have used them to fly to safety anyways.)
