I'll say that @ahtsumu ....her writing literally was the catalyst to my writing style..... I loved how detailed her writing was and how much she indulged on the characters personalities so I let myself fall into that type of writing. Its why most of my writing is includes characterization and describing little moments!!! her format of writing is something I also took inspo from, the very simplistic format of title and writing eith her 'how the haikyuu boys fall in love' post is the inspiration for my first toxic trait post!!!!!!! Also flo's writing in general it absolutely beautiful and breathtaking!!!! luv ya ❤

[10:02 PM] you’re twenty-eight and you’re okay. 

if fourteen-year-old you could see yourself right now, that angst-ball would scoff and sass out a “yeah right”, arms-crossed over-chest, eyes rolled so far back they see dinosaurs.

put plainly: fourteen-year-old you didn’t think you’d be here. twenty-eight. okay.

“angel?” ushijima wakatoshi murmurs, squeezing your waist. the motion breaks your gaze out the window and draws you back into the present. 

the present in which you are twenty-eight and it’s christmas eve and you’re sitting on your husband’s lap in an ugly green armchair in a living room in paris. yes, you have a husband. yes, he loves you. 

yes, really.

the holiday jingle you’d somehow tuned out earlier returns to your ears at full volume. leave it to tendou satori to add ten “all i want for christmas is you”s onto the party playlist, not that you’re complaining.

(not like you can, anyway. it’s his christmas party.)

“mhmm?” you relax your posture and wrap an arm around ushijima’s shoulder, leaning into his side.

“you spaced out for a second,” ushijima says, rubbing light circles into your back with his thumb.

“yeah… i was just thinking about how strange it is. being here like this.”

ushijima takes a bite out of tendou’s newest creation (one the redhead made just for the athletes in attendance, all while rolling his eyes the entire time): the gluten-free, vegan, superfood gingerbread cookie, dipped (very sparingly) in vegan, organic chocolate. while chewing, he looks around the crowded living room. people stand by friends and acquaintances with plates of food in their hands and easy grins on their faces. most of the guests at this party are actually people you’re friends with. he’s sure because he saw you laughing with them just a few minutes ago. so you can’t mean what you just said in an ‘i hate it here, let’s go home’ way. “what’s strange?” he asks.

what’s strange is never being able to imagine adulthood, inner peace, stable and genuine, lasting happiness (or at least, okay-ness) in your teenage years and suddenly realising–– when you’re pushing thirty–– that you have it. that you have all of it and more and you’ve had it for quite a while now. that when you’re happy you don’t really think about happiness, which is why it’s taken you so long to realise:

yes, you are happy.

and sometimes, it takes a party filled with friends you haven’t seen in a while, soundtracked by a three-hour-long playlist that plays the same one mariah song every eighteen minutes, with a mandatory dress code of “your ugliest christmas sweater” on christmas eve in the sixteenth arrondissement to make you realise that.

you open your mouth, then close it.

“i know you want to say 'it’s hard to explain’,” ushijima says, quirking a brow.

“how’d you know?”

“it’s hard to explain.”

the two of you hold each other’s gazes while grinning. he challenges you to go on.

but how do you convey that muddled, grey feeling of dissonance and the quality of being lost to someone who’s lived his entire life with direction and purpose?

you never had tunnel vision like he did. you grew up wandering in the peripheral.

“don’t simplify it for me,” ushijima says, brown eyes look into yours in earnest, “say it as is. maybe i won’t know what you’re talking about but at least i’ll know about it, exactly the way you view it.”

so you tell him, as is, and once you’re done, he smiles. “i’m glad you’re happy now,” ushijima murmurs, pressing his lips against yours.

“no kissing when you’re not underneath the mistletoe!” someone yells, skittering over to your bodies in the armchair. tendou satori dramatically–– but gingerly–– pushes you apart and wags a finger in ushijima’s face. “toshi, stop being a horn dog and keep it in your pants!”

ushijima grins, pulling you back into his arms. “sorry, satori.“ he looks over at your face, then asks, “are cheek kisses okay?”

tendou laughs and gestures to the buzzing room behind him. “should’ve known you two would sneak off any way you can. this is reon’s birthday party all over again. if it weren’t snowing outside, i bet you’d be out back in the hanging chair, being suspicious and shit.”

“yeah, probably,” you retort, grinning.

tendou notices the near-empty glass you’re holding. “can i get you a refill?” he takes the cup from your hands when you nod. “what was in it? sauv blanc or chardonnay?”

“just water.”

tendou pauses. ushijima beams. “okay!” the chocolatier exclaims, skipping off and disappearing through the throng of bodies in his living room.

“everyone’s happy today,” ushijima remarks as if he doesn’t know what just happened, grabbing his wine glass off the wooden side table.

“there’re a lot of things to be happy about,” you counter, placing a kiss on his jaw as he drinks.

ushijima hums and sets the glass back down. he starts absentmindedly rubbing circles into your hip again. “tell me one.”

“well,” you drawl. “i’m twenty-eight.”

and he smiles.

because he knows.
