                    ❝   𝙄𝙩’𝙨   𝙣𝙤𝙩   𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣   𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩   𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙙   ,   ❞   Shrill   whine   is   heard   over   the   chatter   of   the   festivities.   

Lanterns   line   the   streets   –   a   canopy   of   stars   –   while   the   flames   dancing   up   around   them   cast   ever   –   changing   shadows   across   her   rosy   features.   Lips   contorted   into   a   pout   ,   she’s   practically   hanging   off   his   arm   as   she   guides   him   further   into   the   crowd.   It’s   hard   to   stay   focused   on   her   task   at   hand   when   music   has   her   eyes   darting   to   and   fro.   Leave   it   to   the   Fire   Nation   to   celebrate   Avatar   Day   ,   in   commemoration   of   Avatar   Roku   ,   in   the   grandest   way   possible.   Fascinated   gaze   follows   an   entertainer   swallowing   flames   on   the   street   ,   only   returning   to   look   at   Zuko   when   she   almost   drags   him   down   with   an   absentminded   stumble   over   her   own   two   feet.   ❝   What   I’m   saying   is   ,   ❞   She   chimes   up   ,   straightening   her   clothes   as   she   hops   to   stop   in   front   of   him.   ❝   I   just   need   you   to   be   my   wingman   ,   that’s   it.   You   tell   them   just   how   great   I   am   –   that   shouldn’t   be   too   hard   ,   right   ?   ❞

          ---   there's   a   little   huff   from   her   seat.   knives   are   spinning   idly   in   the   air.   mai's   learned   to   be   a   little   bit   more   open.   she's   learned   to   fight   for   what   she   wants.   but   she's   still   not   used   to   being   so   bored.   it'll   never   be   something   she's   okay   with.   ❝   i   know   meetings   with   the   earth   king   are   important,   zuko,   ❞   she   says   lazily,   the   knife   flinging   higher   up   in   the   air.   it   drags   across   the   tapestry,   tearing   it   just   a   little   before   she   catches   it   &   puts   it   back   in   her   pocket.   ❝   but   i   don't   see   why   i��  have   to   be   here.   sound   boring.   ❞              she   stands,   walking   towards   him.   eyes   glance   over   all   the   papers   sprawled   across   the   desk.   she's   more   interested   in   them   than   she'll   show.   finally,   she   takes   the   seat   next   to   zuko.   ❝   sounds   to   me   like   you'll   be   doing   most   of   the   talking   anyway,   firelord.   ❞

     she      stands      outside      the      door,                     hearing    the    words    before    getting    too    close.    toph    knows      better      than    to    push    through    when    zuko    is    this    angry,    and    part    of    her    is    rather      worried,      but    instead    of    going    against    instinct    she    leans    against    the    door    and    slides    down    to    the    floor.           ❛           hey,      fire      baby      ?    i’m    out    here    when    you’re    done    with    your      tantrum.      just    let    me    know    !            ❜           just    because    he    was      mad      didn’t    mean    toph    was    going    to    tone    down    the      snark.
