Moon’s vision came in a blur of incomprehensible words. His sight flashed in and out like the strobing beat of a human heart… ironic.

Red. Blue. Black. White.

Blood. Claws. Shadows. Tears.

He had made an immense mistake.

His clawed hands shivered with the knowledge of what he had done. Dry tears remained on the child’s pale face. The light had long since faded from her eyes. Her hand was intertwined with a boy’s. Both were dead.

They all were dead.

Bodies. Moon was surrounded by bodies. He was surrounded by the husks of lives he took away.

He had ripped out a girl’s heart. He had slashed at another’s throat. He had pulled off the limbs of a boy.

The list of his crimes went on.

It was an accident, his thoughts screamed. They weren’t supposed to die.

It all had just happened too fast.

One moment, he was putting them all to sleep… and the next, they were lifeless. Empty.

What had he done?

“What did you do?” his sunny counterpart screeched at him through the fog reminiscent of T.V. static that separated them in their shared head.

What had he done?

He felt dizzy whenever he tried to focus on the details. Questions swam around the sea that was his mind.

Why did he do that? What drove him to hurt those he was meant to protect?

He had acted as if driven by autopilot. The notion of killing those children came as freely to him as the notion of keeping them safe once did. He didn’t want to do it. He didn’t want to hurt them.

But he lost control.

He had been spectating his own body; he had been sent to the passenger seat of his mind in and for seconds.

Seconds was all whatever that overtook him needed to make a scene.

A metallic scent wafted into the air and assaulted Moon’s senses. He didn’t like it. He hated it, actually.

The scent of death, of decay.

It echoed through him.

Oil poured down Moon’s face in the place of tears.

What had he done?
