The Underrated Asian Show of 2023
QueenMaker (2023) ~ Actress Kim Hee-ae portrayal of being a Fixer (Hwang Do-hee) for one of Korea's prominent families is a thriller. It is 'Scandal' wrapped up in a stellar cast of proficient actors. When I say proficient I mean Proficient... Seasoned Actors... Marinated. This cast is your favorites Idol in the industry. This series is an acting class, pull up a seat. Who controls the narrative the world sees is Do-hee skill set. She's the only sleeping dog you should let lie before she takes your entire existence. The most underrated series of 2023. When you see actors in their 50's getting a check with a story line like this make some noise and praise them. Western World get to watching. I pray they will have a Season 2. The acting is everything. Netflix. (Korea) (x)

Kdrama Review
Drama: Under the Queen's Umbrella
Genre: Historical, Comedy, Political
My Rating: 10/10
The Good:
Family
The main focus of this drama is family which is heartwarming and precious. Different types of familial relationships were shown be it mother & son, brothers or husband & wife. They protect and fight for their family.
Plot twists
There are lots of intelligent characters and I can't count on how many times I actually gasp in shock of the plot twists.
A little bit of romance
There are cute moments of Seongnam and Chungha. I really like this pair of smart and good looking people hehe.
Good villains
Villains who are hated are good potrayal of villains.
Kim Hye Soo/Queen Im Hwa Ryung
The role of queen, a mother, a protector and caring person was perfectly embodied by Kim Hye Soo. We can see the love in her eyes when she looks at her children and the fire in her eyes when fighting the Queen Dowager.
Satisfying ending
I was worried that they would rush the last 2 episode but fortunately they didn't. They showed how everyone is doing and the ending was so beautiful.
This is the first time I'm rating a drama 10/10! This kdrama is entertaining from the beginning to the end. I'm gonna miss this wholesome drama.

PROJECT WOLF HUNTING (2022) ★★★★☆

Today I completed EXTRAORDINARY ATTORNEY WOO season 1 and I saw how Woo Young Woo was bullied back in her middle school & had no friends because of her autism. Her classmates plays awfull prank on her during a game of "I'm sorry".But if a person like Woo Young Woo was in my class then instead of bullying her I would support her not b`coz she is intelligent but imagine having a friend who has a pure heart, never thought or done bad for someone, never betrayed anyone and most importantly stayed loyal. Don't you think that getting this type of friend is a real blessing.

Under the Queen's Umbrella - Sageuk Perfection
Under the Queen’s Umbrella – Sageuk Perfection
I started this show during my trip in Korea at my grandmother’s house which meant I had to watch the first two episodes of a historical kdrama with no subtitles. My Korean is pretty good but I only understood about 50% . It didn’t matter, the visuals and emotions hooked me. Netflix The show is about a queen (Kim Hye Soo) and her 5 sons, the grand princes Crown Prince (Bae In Hyuk), Seongnam…

Under the Queen's Umbrella
This is a beautiful series. I smiled, laughed and cried. This is the story of a mother who loves her children and will fight to the teeth to protect them. As a mother myself, I could understand her feelings and her actions. Queen Im Hwa Ryeong is an intelligent woman, street smart, and she has learned to play the politics game to protect her five sons. He eldest, the Crown Prince and his own wife, little boy and his youngest on the way are her pride and joy. He is the model child everyone would want to have. She worries about his health.
When the king decides to look for a substitute for the Crown Prince's assistant, the Queen will have to prepare her other four carefree sons so they can show they are just as worthy as their other half-brothers. But as she tries to do so without alarming them, she runs around inside and outside the palace looking for them.
Her second son, Grand Prince Seong Nam, was taken away from her when he was born. She was able to bring him home after years of living outside like a commoner. He feels like an outsider inside the palace and likes to train outside, but he loves his brothers, and cherishes his relationship with his older brother.
Grand Prince Muan is a young man in love with a woman of low birth. His mother is constantly getting him out of her home and bring him back to the palace.
Grand Prince Kye Seong is a quiet young man who brings peace to his mother but carries a secret that could kill him.
Grand Prince Il Young is in his early teens and too young to care about politics.
As the political intrigues unravel, we see her relationship with her sons strengthen. This a woman who will protect, not only her children, but the king's other sons. . . She is strong and flexible, accepting and a problem solver.
I liked her relationship with her sons. How she interacts with each and gives them the support they need while also giving them wings. I also like her relationship with the King. Out of all his wives, the audience can see a special bond between them. He values her opinion and respects her. She respects him, although there are things she will always keep away from him in order to protect her sons. She is indeed her son's secret keeper and their support.
I really love what the title symbolizes. The umbrella she puts over her boys' heads when it rains and what it all means.
I truly love this story!

Laughter in Waikiki 2: A Review
When life overwhelms you with too many hassles, sometimes all you need to do is to remain still and allow everything to pass by without trying so hard to beat the odds. This is the exact feeling I get whenever I tune in to Laughter in Waikiki (2018). This followed-up season feels just as ridiculous yet entertaining as the previous one, and I guess you can just sit down and listen to the novel…

I've watched 10 ep now and I think this will be my most favourite drama..!
‘True Beauty’ Taught Me That You Have A Right To Be Seen & Cherished As You Are
Well, well. For starters, this was such a well-made show. Also, post gazillion discussions with my friend, we’ve concluded that K-dramas from 2019 have become more progressive, liberal and busters of their own stereotypes.
‘True Beauty’ was all of the above along with being funny, cute and addressing social issues head-on. Speaking of the last one, this show really puts into perspective the pressure of being conventionally ‘pretty’ and the nature of school bullying that leads to traumatic experiences in the life of young Korean adults. For this, I really applaud the show.
The story is about 'ugly’ looking 18-year-old Lim Joo Gyung who is bullied by her high-school classmates for her looks and appearance. It is rather devastating to watch the first two episodes because man, they really open your eyes to the gruesome shit people do to other people.
Tired of being bullied and unloved, Joo Gyung decides to switch schools. In the process, she discovers make-up and its unruly power to help her transform her appearance from zero to hero(ine).
As she learns to master make-up skills, she is shocked by how she can manipulate and hide what she really looks like. Plot-twist: she’s already met our hero Lee Su Hoo by now, who’s seen her 'non-pretty’ avatar and since her transfer happens to be in his school, he’s already dubious about her made-up self.
This is where the fun begins. Joo Gyung slowly discovers that with the help of beauty products, she can finally be a ‘normal teenager’ who has friends. Lee So Hu confronts her with his suspicions and upon them being confirmed, helps her keep her secret.
What follows is how Joo Gyung battles her own insecurities about herself, how the story displays with beautiful delicacy what it means to be truly beautiful and how, the people who love you will always be there, because they can see who you are, bone-deep.
Rather than using make-up as a crutch to keep running away from her lack of self-worth, we see how our heroine comes to terms with this and how she strives to be beautiful in her own might.
I cannot proceed without proclaiming my indefinite love for Lim Hee Gyung, Joo Gyung’s older sister and a powerhouse of a woman. What’s not there to love about her? NOTHING.
I love how she’s 'manly’ enough to chase the person she’s fallen for and I love her relationship with homeroom teacher Han Jun Woo, which is a complete power reversal than what is usually shown in K-dramas. She’s the man here, she wears the damn pants and looks hot in them while she’s at it. He, on the other hand, has no shame in being completely vulnerable and letting her take the lead.
Lim Hee Gyung is everything I want to see in female drama leads. She’s funny, digs intense video-gaming, smart, independent and a boss of a career woman. On the other hand, Han Jun Woo is kind, makes for a thorough poet through and through, is calm, composed and very sure of himself.
There is no denying how much I love Hwang In Yeop in Han Seo Jun’s avatar. Man, little did I know that the swordsman from 'Tale of Nokdu’ was going to be a stellar second lead.
Seo Jun is everything Lee Su Ho is not: funny, understands and respects boundaries, isn’t an asshole on purpose, loves Joo Gyung, respects her secret, respects her choice to love someone other than him rather than 'fight’ for her by forcefully getting in her way, doesn’t proclaim his feelings until he’s sure she’s not seeing anyone and is in general, SO MUCH MORE FUN than our boring, boring first lead. Sigh.
Women (heroines) of dramas, please wake-up. I’m kind of tired of looking at y'all throw away the most beautiful of men because you think being with a stuck-up-arrogant-cold male lead is 'true love’.
It isn’t. Really.
Also, I want to highlight how the show has women running the entire storyline on the forefront.
Be it Lim Hee Gyung, her mother Hong Hyun Suk who’s the primary bread earner of the family, or Soo-Ah or Kang Soo Jin.
I loved how adorable, funny and cute Hyun Suk’s husband — insert *one of my favorite K-actors* — Lim Jae Pil is. Damn, I love gender-role reversals and what a success this drama has been with them. *happy tears and cheers*
Lastly, let’s get on to my favorite learnings from the show:
1. Your healing is your responsibility.
Something we see so beautifully through the characters of Joo Gyung and Su Ho. With their own respective healing journeys, we see them own their self-discovery versus piling it on each other in the name of love.
2. Stop hiding your light.
After losing his closest friend, we see Han Seo Jun shut his heart to music despite it being his first love. But with time, Lim Hee Gyung and Su Ho convince him that it is a loss to the world to keep his musical gifts to himself and we see Seo Jun share his light once again.
3. Your heart is what is the most beautiful thing about you.
Not your clothes, not your talents and not your face. Who you are, how you treat others and how you love is what determines how beautiful or ugly you are.
My last thoughts thoughts, “… the ultimate dumpling war.”

My Top 10 Solo Leveling Characters
Inspired by this post
I'll keep the explanations short, but if you want a more in-depth explanation, feel free to ask for more (or look through my blog. It isn't that hard to find with how much I post about certain characters)
Choi Jong-In
Gee, what a surprise-
What I like the most about Choi Jong-In is how complex his character is when you actually analyze him. He comes off as a confident, sly person who does what he wants to get something for himself, but when you read between the lines, there is a lot about him that shows nearly the opposite
One example is how he exudes confidence, nearly borderline arrogance, yet when you observe his physical actions, he almost always doing something with his hands, as if he is nervous and holds back from fidgeting. He also cares a lot about other hunters yet does so very subtly, like during the double dungeon when he was giving orders to the other hunters to try to keep them safe. He reacted like how Baek Yoon-Ho did during the Red Gate incident when he learned about what happened with the high orcs A-Rank gate, showing that he does care about his hunters' safety
Okay, I need to stop
2. Baek Yoon-Ho
This should have been expected from just looking at my blog
Baek Yoon-Ho was actually my favorite character early in the story. I love how despite his intimidating appearance, he is actually very kind and a rather sensitive person. He is one of more fleshed-out side characters in terms of his relationships with other side characters and how his backstory before the gates appeared is talked about a lot in various forms of Solo Leveling
He also has a rather complex personality with how serious he appears in public and how it is clear he cares a great deal about the hunters in his guild, yet with people he is close to, such as his friends, he is very expressive and reacts quite a bit to being teased and such
3. Go Gun-Hee
He needs to show up in the game soon
I love how caring he is with the other hunters, specifically Woo Jin-Chul and the other S-Ranks. He makes teasing remarks towards them and is quite soft with them despite his powerful aura. He definitely has the energy of a grandfather, so I like to think he gets along with all the S-Ranks very well
He also seems very protective of them as he was furious about the Japanese Hunters Association's Chairman's plan to eliminate Korea's S-Ranks. He is like that one quote
“There are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man.”
4. Sung Il-Hwan
Why couldn't he have seen Kyung-Hye one last time-
I also love Sung Il-Hwan's caring nature even though it was only shown after he fought Hwang Dong-Soo and was helping people get out of destroyed buildings and fire. It was nice foreshadowing to him being a firefighter in the past
He's fairly similar to Go Gun-Hee in terms of his protectiveness of the people he cares about and his optimistic/teasing nature even though Sung Il-hwan's personality wasn't shown that much. I admire how he wanted to give up his memories of the previous timeline to properly take care of his son the way he wanted to though. It was very sweet
I want him to be the main character, not his son-
5. Park Kyung-Hye
She should have appeared more. She's so pretty
Not much of her was shown in the manhwa, but the moments of her that stood out to me the most were how she looked out for her family before her own well-being and how she was still waiting for her husband to return
Even when she had just awakened and found out how long she had been asleep for, the first thing she did after getting a grasp on her surroundings is comfort her son. All she knew was that her son had worked hard to take care of him and could see from his hands that he got hurt while doing so. She doesn't know what exactly Sung Jin-Woo did in the years she was asleep yet still thanked him
6. Woo Jin-Chul
Of course he's on the list. Why wouldn't he be on the list
There are many admirable traits that Woo Jin-Chul has, but I think the one that stands out to me the most is his sense of justice and desire to do everything he can to make the world a better place. It doesn't get to the point where it is all he thinks about or does, but it is enough to show that he is passionate about what he believes
His demeanor is also something I like. The way he is stoic and reacts accordingly based on the situation he is in. It makes me wonder about what his personality is actually like behind the mask and when he is not working. Some of it was shown in the side stories, which was very nice to see, though I wish the manhwa had included more moments of him from the novel
He would be higher on the list, but I'm a sucker for parental figures
7. Min Byung-Gyu
The reason I have a strong grudge against Sung Jin-Woo
Min Byung-Gyu is a much stronger person the more you analyze him (I'm working on an analysis of him, so I'll be going into more detail there). The way he is clearly traumatized by the third Jeju raid and had already told Baek Yoon-Ho that he would not be going on the next Jeju raid, yet he still showed up in the end
He likely couldn't bear the thought of the S-Ranks dying without him there more than the possibility of him not being able to save them. Compared to the other side characters, he was actually fleshed out quite a bit, and he was a very unique character compared to the S-Ranks in terms of his personality
He did NOT need to die
8. Son Ki-Hoon
Most underrated character right here
I don't think much about Son Ki-Hoon as he didn't have that much of a presence in the manhwa, but I really like how he was portrayed as a good leader. After all the other raids Sung Jin-Woo had been on prior to this raid, I was really worried that Son Ki-Hoon was going to be selfish like the others. But thankfully, he chose to go the route that would be the safest for the rest of the team (I think he, unfortunately, has bad luck though)
He was also very adamant about protecting his guild members despite it seeming certain that they would die. Not in a self-sacrificial way (which is a trait I personally dislike), but in a way that would the others the best chance of survival while still doing his best to stay alive
9. Park Hee-Jin
She's so pretty alsdkfjafda
Not much of Park Hee-Jin was seen other than the Red Gate, but the game went in depth about her backstory, which I enjoyed watching. To summarize, Park Hee-Jin had "hunches" whenever something is about to go wrong, and although she doesn't know if something will actually happen or not, her instincts are usually right
However, when she tells other people, they usually don't believe her, and when something does happen, they blame her for it. Yet despite the accusations against her, she doesn't let it bother her and just ignores them, focusing on keeping herself and those who do believe her safe. Similar to Park Kyung-Hye, she also has a caring nature with other hunters, especially those younger than her.
10. Eun-Seok
I know he was only in the anime for like. 3 minutes, but hear me out
Despite Eun-Seok not being on screen for long and barely being mentioned anywhere else, the effect he had on the surviving hunters was very impactful. It clearly affected his close friends, Baek Yoon-Ho and Min Byung-Gyu, the latter of whom retired after the raid. It's not clearly stated, but in the game, he also seems to be the reason why Lim Tae-Gyu seems rather jaded at times, so I assume the two must have been close
As for his personality, he seems like someone who looks out for his friends often yet has a playful side to him as well. I hope we get to see more of him later, whether it's in the game or in a flashback in the anime, but already in the anime, they gave him a lot of features, including a whole character design along with very unique powers
I'm very weak towards selfless people who are humble in case you couldn't tell
If you made it this far, congratulations. Have a cookie 🍪 I don't know what other foods to give. Maybe a fruit next time
