'𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐔𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐒' 𝐏𝐑𝐄-𝐒𝐂𝐑𝐄𝐄𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐕𝐈𝐄𝗪𝐒 & 𝐏𝐎𝐒𝐓-𝐒𝐂𝐑𝐄𝐄𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐐&𝐀 𝐏𝐀𝐍𝐄𝐋:⁣ ⁣ The Australian horror, 'The Furies,' previewed on Halloween during Sydney's Monsterfest & I was fortunate to interview director Tony D'Aquino & actress Airlie Dodds about the film.⁣ ⁣ 🎬 'The Furies,' Tony's 1st full-length feature, wasn't his only horror/thriller production; he previously directed "Arkham's Curios & Wonders," an episode in the 'Two Twisted' TV series produced by Bryan Brown. 🎬 ⁣ ⁣ Tony has made short films, music videos, TV commercials & corporate videos. He admits that his short films have a tendency to be very dark & his student films could be classified as horror, depressing film noir or black comedy horror.⁣ ⁣ As the writer & director, Tony disclosed that 'The Furies' could be a self-contained movie that doesn't need a sequel but the story, itself, was originally planned as a 3 film series. ⁣ ⁣ 🎭 Airlie, who has been on TV in 'Neighbours', 'Rake' & 'Ready For This,' has worked previously with 'The Furies' producer Lisa Shaunessy on the 2016 horror/thriller 'Killing Ground.' 🎭 ⁣ Her 1st thoughts on the script were that she liked how the lead, Kayla, changed from being passive [ie she didn't believe or trust in herself] to being forced into an active role. ⁣ ⁣ Airlie thought that there were clever analogies [with the men in the movie being monsters, having a severe lack of connection to their humanity] that paralleled aspects of the current world that we live in.⁣ ⁣ 🎤 The post-screening Q&A featured writer/director Tony D'Aquino, actress Taylor Ferguson [Sheena], actress Airlie Dodds [Kayla] & producer Lisa Shaunessy. 🎤 ⁣ 🤔 The discussion topics ranged from using the old-style horror methods of prosthetic sculpting, molding & casting [for the special effects] to the 70's & 80's inspirations behind the 'Beast' characters. The panel also enjoyed feedback from Tony's very proud mum & aunt [last photo]. 😉 ⁣ For my review, refer to: https://www.instagram.com/p/B4aiUbEF175/⁣ ⁣ Thanks to NIXCo & @monsterfestau; 'The Furies', rated R18+ [high impact horror violence, blood & gore], opened in 🇦🇺 on Nov 7th, 2019. ©️ (at THE FURIES) https://www.instagram.com/p/B4lLVtSl27t/?igshid=yl9w6xv17abq

Lizard Boy in a nutshell
This is what I’ve cut and pasted together about Lizard Boy’s plot, mostly from online reviews I’ve found, so there will definitely be things missing. But here goes:
The plot
Justin Huertas plays Trevor, a (...) young sketch artist who has imaginary chats with his favorite comic-book heroes (x1). Due to an other-worldly accident as a child (...), Trevor has morphed into a half-man/half lizard-like creature, his skin glistening with iridescent green scales (x3). He only goes out once a year, during MonsterFest, when his “costume” brings accolades (x2). Trevor channels his pain and anger into his music and his art, which is mostly sketches of superheroes and disturbing visions that run through his dreams (source 3).
“Lizard Boy” opens with Trevor still blue over being ditched by his first lover a year before (x1). (...) He’s (...) in need of human connection (x2). At "Monsterfest", (...) His newfound confidence enables him to decide to reach out on (...) Grindr in search of his first (and last) love. Instead, he [finds] [Cary (William A. Williams)] (x3) a lonely Belltowner so ludicrously eager to hook up he’s cavorting in his undies when Trevor arrives (x1), (...) who is new himself to Seattle (x3). That leads to a lengthy, initially reluctant rendezvous (x1).
(...) Trevor spies a magazine on Cary's coffee table with the image of the woman who has been haunting his dreams lately: the tough-as-nails singer named Siren ((...) Kirsten deLohr Helland) (x3). (...) so he insists they go to The Crocodile (after Cary puts on his pants), where Trevor deserts Cary for the dressing room in order to meet Siren (Kirsten deLohr Helland) (x2).
After sizing each other up, Siren and Trevor uncover a shared childhood connection to a Mount St. Helens eruption and a bloody dragon (x1): when Trevor was a child, a dragon popped out of Mount St. Helens and was chased by soldiers to a playground in Tacoma where he and five other kids hadn't gotten the memo to evacuate. The soldiers killed the dragon, the kids were doused in its blood, and they all got superpowers—one became a shape-shifter, another turned clairvoyant, a third could control people and objects with music, and so on—except for Trevor. He just got scales and a sideshow nickname. Or so he thinks (x4).
The rest of the show shows Trevor and Cary’s tentative steps toward connection and Trevor’s attempts to get away from Siren (who says she needs his “power” in order to avoid a dragonopalypse and the possible end of the world) (x2). Trevor shares his songs and visions with Siren, setting off a chain of events that grow and explode into a classic battle of good vs evil, love over hate, acceptance over rejection (x3). Could a dragon-apocalypse be imminent? Will Siren’s superpowers beat it back? Should Trevor join forces with her (x1)?
What makes the show awesome:
Though "musical" is the quickest way to describe this world premiere, commissioned by Seattle Rep artistic director Jerry Manning (who passed away last April), that's not quite the right word. Lizard Boy has just three actors, who are also its musicians (x4).
Lizard Boy is also a live-action comic book, but—unlike, say, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark—it doesn't try to fake its way along with special effects. (...) Superpowers are cued musically: a pick-slide up a guitar string when someone's claws come out, or a high-pitched zing from the cello to indicate characters flexing their telekinesis. Toward the end, (...) the actors will have a superpowered brawl while playing their instruments—fighting, accompanying themselves, and underscoring their own battle all at the same time (x4).
"It's not a musical, not a play with music, not a concert, but somewhere between all those," [Director Brandon Ivie] says. "When people ask me what it is, I'm like, 'Um... comic book meets Once meets Grindr?' When they press, I'm like, 'Here's the plot.' And then they say, 'Now I'm confused because that seems like a lot of plot.'" (x4)

the beast that is grief by moonlightmp3
”And each time he gets closer to this man, he can feel the flames. He will consume this heat, the one he has been searching for.”
In which a demon becomes just as prominent as illness and injury in the cold hallways of a hospital.
Written for the 2016 Round of EXO MONSTERFEST. This is my longest published work (as of now) at 9.5k words. I am very proud of how it turned out and would greatly appreciate all kudos/comments!

It Isn't Murder If You Die Laughing - Watch Horror Short DON'T EVER CHANGE Now!

It Isn't Murder If You Die Laughing - Watch Horror Short DON'T EVER CHANGE Now!
The shorts programs at film festivals are always surprising. You know very little going in, and while you may see some art-house films that aren’t your cup-of-tea, you will always something absolutely fascinating. The short film Don’t Ever Change has remained one of our favorites of the year, and I’m glad to tell you that it is finally available online. The short is a funny little film for every macabre mind that finds murder funny. A must-see for the true crime obsessed, and horror fans alike.
As described by directed Don Swaynos, “Don’t Ever Change is the story of recently paroled Karen Hickman, whose plan to reconnect with her estranged daughter is interrupted by a fan with an unusual request”. If that sounds intentionally vague, welcome to the word of writing about shorts! Surely it’s taken you longer to read this article than clicking play below would have. So, what are you waiting for? If you have a few minutes to spare, they’d be better spent watching something that was tailor made for your twisted sense of humor.
vimeo
Don’t Ever Change is written & directed by Don Swaynos, producer of Travis Mathews’ dark thriller Discreet (Berlinale, 2017) and editor of James Bryan’s recently rediscovered shot-on-video horror-comedy Jungle Trap (Fantastic Fest 2016).
The film stars Independent Spirit Award-nominee Cyndi Williams (Zero Charisma, Computer Chess), Heather Kafka (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Joe), and Frank Mosley (Upstream Color, Ain’t Them Bodies Saints) and features special effect make-up by Eric Zapata (Syfy’s Face Off, Seasons 4 & 5).
Don’t Ever Change had it’s world premiere earlier this year at the Overlook Film Festival, with an international premiere at the Fantasia Film Festival.  It also screened at several genre festivals including Mayhem (UK), Cinepocalypse, Telluride Horror Show, and MonsterFest (Australia) as well as mainstream independent festivals including Cucalorus, BendFilm, Indie Memphis, and Sidewalk.
