"THE MONARCH"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Smol art thing I did. It was kinda a thing where I wanted to somewhat experiment with a different style of drawing so here IT IS!
Also new OC just bcs. Anyways, this new OC is named "The Monarch" a individual who has some pretty important lore in the story they're apart of.
In these 2 pics of them, you can see a shaded & un-shaded variant of them. (Mainly bcs this was actually just a silly drawing I made which I kinda wanted to make a bit unnerving on purpose + idk when imma make a actual ref of them)
Monarch has no actual proper known gender even if they look female, but in reality they aren't female but I'm not gonna tell you what is their true gender so yall can just make headcanons about what they actual are in the comments below.
Also btw yes this was the character I was teasing about yesterday & their connection/relations to the 2 protags, Mono & Vista.
Anyways hope yall like this silly thing I did. Although it can give some ppl uneasiness (due to their eyes) but again this was all in fun. (Btw no this isn't apart of the N-Verse it is own thing)

Brief Thoughts On 'Black Lightning' Season 4, Episode 11
Brief Thoughts On ‘Black Lightning’ Season 4, Episode 11
Now, we’re in endgame(?) As Black Lightning closes in on its final two hours, the final combatants appear to stand ready to fight. Certain ideas are also cast aside as the time to explore them comes to an end. Then again, this is Black Lightning — it may yet find a moment or two in order to circle back to Gambi’s (James Remar) possible happy ending, the real situation at Monovista, or (we hope)…

Black Lightning: The Consistent Villainy of Tobias Whale
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
This Black Lightning article contains MAJOR spoilers for Season 4, Episode 12.
Jefferson Pierce is dead. Or so it seems, as we turn the page on Black Lightning: The Book of Resurrection: Chapter One: Crossroads. Tobias Whale is on the precipice of achieving everything he has worked for. His mayoral win was supposed to secure his seat on the Shadow Board, but that offer was rescinded after his failure to completely immobilize Freeland’s metas. But Tobias is always one step ahead, and he sends an invisible assassin—powered up with meta boosters—to kill the apparent head, then takes his place, dubbing himself King. Tobias has been playing a very long game, and he is reaping the fruits of his labor. And if he’s to be believed, he’s finally killed his nemesis.
Tobias is not just a violent criminal who perpetually exploits and endangers Freeland, he is also a Black man who is anti-Black—dangerous as hell. He has never been likable, and Black Lightning has not spent a single second attempting to justify his malevolence, or soften it. That consistency pays off here, because he is a true villain. He can’t win! Not just because we want the heroes to, but because he is so. goddamn. awful. He is irredeemable. Writers on the whole seem obsessed with redemption, but like in real life, there is no ctrl+z for past behavior. Some people are just… bad. And as much as I hate that man—and I hate him deeply—it’s exciting to watch an antagonist who enjoys being the bad guy, with no hesitation, and no guilt.
But the Pierces never stay down. Even without their powers, Grace and Anissa take down Monovista’s—and Tobias’—meta gene harvesting plant, likely putting a pause on Tobias’ plan to expand his range outside of Freeland. This is very On Brand for Anissa, and I love that she continues to do her, regardless of whether she has powers. Her consistency is also something I greatly appreciate. I only wish she and Grace had been able to be a team for a longer time. Still, I enjoy that we got to watch their relationship grow and flourish. Speaking of growth, JJ finally feels solidified as a hero. She wants to quit after Uriah is killed, but her dad reminds her of why she is needed. He puts faith in her, and she rises to that by capturing Red, and showing Freeland who Chief Lopez really is—an anti-meta bigot.
When JJ exposes the Chief’s metaphobia, Lopez reacts hysterically, hurrying to use a meta-booster on herself. All we know about Lopez is that she is a woman who feels pressured by that fact to do the absolute most in her position as Chief. And she hates metas to an unhealthy extent. Her entire tenure on the show has been disliking metas, trying to annihilate them all, and trying to capture Lightning, by hook or by crook. She hasn’t tried to take down the Kobra Cartel or the 100s, or do literally anything else the leader of a law enforcement agency should do in a city overrun with gang violence— and one that has just narrowly survived a military siege. Lopez has given us nothing this season, and her inclusion feels like a choice that was made before the powers that be knew this was the end. On the other hand, one of Black Lightning’s biggest weaknesses is misutilization of their cast. Lala disappeared multiple times over the seasons, and characters just kind of mosey off-screen.
This is also evident with Ishmael who… aint shit? It’s hard to say whether this being the final season necessitated changes to his story, or if he was always going to come to Freeland and give us the bare minimum. I did enjoy his scraps but, you cannot say this man killed like 97 metas and is trying out for the League of Assassins and have him only manage to slightly kill one meta out of the six he was set upon. LMFAO. I really tried to see it for him, but he couldn’t take out Jefferson when mans was having a blackout. He left his first four jobs unfinished, and still got paid to go after Khalil and Looker. I have never seen a Black man fail up like this, it was honestly a treat. But playing him up as a late-game Boss then having him lose all but the very first fight is… hilarious, actually. I’m just glad at least one of the new additions, Detective Shakur in this case, is getting to do a little bit more than slightly aggravate the Pierce family.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
I am glad that Gambi has brought Lauren into the fold, even if their relationship feels… shallow. I understand the choice to make her someone from his past, it skips the preamble. But, a relationship that is formed off-screen, and that we only see glimpses of throughout the season, is not easy to connect with. Still, I am rooting for them because Gambi deserves… something. It was too late in the show to fully explore new relationships, but I’m all for happy endings wherever we can get them. I am going into the season finale feeling safe, which isn’t the most exciting place to be. I don’t want Jeff to be dead. I don’t think death is the only,  or even the best way to say goodbye to a series. But the finale should  make a strong statement one way or the other. The Pierces have excelled against increasingly worse odds, and their triumph is more or less assured. I want BlackLightning to end on a high note, and I want to come away from it feeling full. Here’s hoping.

Heheheh Monarch Portrait >>>:)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Featuring a ver w/ & w/o their Crown/Eye thing)
So.... More Lineless art from me (Yay-) but this time it's a character I've have like... drawn only once before & it was in a completely different art style + in a pallete I don't really use (COUGH COUGH- BLACK & WHITE-) So yeh.... This is in my "normal" art style + coloring but instead I used that new brush I got from one of Bre's vids.
And no, that isn't underwhere, those are shorts. It's shorts guys. Don't be sus with my characters plz. (Especially my "female" lookin characters bcs I KNOW there's gonna be some weirdos out there making weird ahh comments about my OCs & design.)
Anyways... about the art... This took my like ig 3 days? Maybe 2? Idk. But prob was one of the actual lineless pieces of art of mine that DIDNT MAKE ME WANT TO JUMP OFF A BRIDGE! (Note: I won't actually do that but skool kinda wants me to do that bcs sTrEsS but I wont... hopefully.)
But the rendering was kinda weird to me bcs I actually haven't used the pen thing I got from a vid in a proper drawing till like... NOW- But honestly I'm kinda am proud of this. Yeh the background is a bit simple but honestly who cares? The background was the worst put of all of them-
Anyways some credits lol
Character is mine.
Art is mine.

Bubs' TOS: Plz don't repost/steal, trace, or recolor my art WITHOUT MY PERMISSION! If you do, I'll take yur femur and pelvis.. SO, DON'T THINK ABOUT IT! Insomnia & "G" Concept Art
(CW: Kinda unnerving for some. If you're unnerved by this I suggest clicking/scrolling away)
VVV (Click on Keep reading if you wanna see however)
Tumblr media
Concept art of a NPC/Companion to Boss in MonoVista (if it was a game, but it ain't, just a Goofy horror concept of mine taking place in a primarily black & white world also bcs i cant code for the life of me)
Now this fella is actually a supposed AU of a OC of a frend but here's the catch, the demon behind the guy is technically a manifestation of his guilt (what kinda of guilt? WHO KNOWS! But it sure ain't a very good one) but also it's own being.
Also I couldn't really pick between red or yellow for the demon's eye thing so I just decided to give em both. (Even though this style is sorta ig more si ple than my average style ig) (and for some reason I wanna experiment with this style of drawing in the future)
So plz don't attack me when you see this, I just wanna make art bcs I want to :'). Anyways gonna make more AU designs of my frends' OCs & possibly make some OCs based on game/Fandom characters-
(Just plz enjoy this if you can)
Credits
The character named G isn't actually mine, but a AU of a frend's OC. However the demon? Idk man... ig it's mine but also theirs?

Black Lightning’s Khalil Continues to Shine in Season 4
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
This Black Lightning article contains spoilers through Season 4, Episode 11.
Black Lightning is sauntering into its final few episodes with the confidence of a keyboard warrior in a woman’s twitter mentions. It’s casual in a way that’s both worrisome and impressive, and one has to wonder if they got it or if they just think they do. Coming into the season, I felt like the writers were ramping up towards a finale that would be explosive, but so much has happened already, the story has plateaued. Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy watching, but I’m less invested than I hoped I’d be by this point.  Part of that is due to the fact that the Pierces can’t seem to lose, and that’s still the case in “The Book of Reunification: Chapter Two: Trial and Errors.”
Jefferson began the season grieving the loss of his best friend and grappling with the resulting guilt. He’d abandoned Black Lightning and was ready to let him go for good. But now that his powers have been taken away, he’s struggling with the idea that he may never be Black Lightning again. We’ve seen what Freeland is like without its hero, but that was before the ASA and Markovia. What would it mean for Jefferson to lose his powers for good? We could go into the series finale with the titular hero devoid of powers. And as unlikely as that is, it is the kind of choice that could pay off if the writers fully commit to it. Black Lightning has always shown up for Freeland; perhaps, in the finale, Freeland will need to show up for him.
Despite the fact that Painkiller still feels compelled to execute the Pierces, Khalil shows up for them. Khalil has been a force ever since his reintroduction in the backdoor pilot for his solo show, Painkiller. Last week, he recovered Tobias’ business ledger, giving him information that could exonerate the Pierces and take Tobias down. He discovered that Tobias has been paying the Looker beaucoup cash to mind-control people into framing Jefferson and Lyn. He offers to track Looker down and persuade her to admit to what she’s done. When Khalil finds the Looker, she tries to take control of him. Because she’s a meta who controls the mind, we’re able to watch them fight inside of Khalil’s mental landscape. It’s a cool action piece and a great way to visualize Looker’s powers from her perspective.
Jefferson, meanwhile, has to convince Detective Shakur to help him slip a serum into the FBI agent’s drink, in order to prove he’s under Looker’s influence. Shakur is hesitant to trust Jefferson at first but he comes around, and that faith is rewarded when the FBI agent ejects Looker’s silver liquid, and agrees to make things right… as much as he can. Jefferson having an ally in the PD has been crucial this season, though I’d hoped for more interplay between Chief Lopez, Jefferson, and Detective Shakur. When Lopez goes to Tobias for more firepower, she goes all in on meta-racism when he offers her meta-boosters instead. She blames metas for literally everything wrong with the world, and there is not enough time to unpack all of that, so hating metas real hard will just have to do. She could be formidable, but she’s just a mild annoyance at this point. I wanted more from Lopez, but I’m happy at least Shakur has proven to be a solid addition to the team, even if he remains skeptical.
Jennifer should be more skeptical, and generally…. smarter. She ghosts Uriah because she thinks he set her up with FPD even though that’s hella illogical, and TC helps her find some damn sense by confirming that someone else—Lopez, obviously—hacked him. TC also points out that her use of social media is what has been causing all this trouble, which everyone warned her about. Earlier in the season I talked about Lightning being on social media and how that could impact her, and now we’re seeing the ramifications of her choices. I like that Black Lightning took this route with Jen. What I do not like is how the show punishes her by having Tobias—by way of Red— kill Uriah.
Stop introducing characters solely to kill them in service of the leads, and stop using them as collateral damage to magnify the stakes. We are here, and we are invested. Now is the time to focus on the characters we’ve already spent time with and care about, it is not necessary to throw bodies at us to reaffirm the bad guys are bad. Tobias is ruthless, we get it. It is much more meaningful to see Tobias’ plans come together than watch him enact violence on yet another person—bruh ripped out a whole spine twp seasons ago, we. get. it. Though, it should be said that Tobias is an entire dumbass. He is a master planner and manipulator yet wasted the powers of mind control on framing Jefferson instead of using it to get one of the Pierces to try to kill the other, or one of their other loved ones, or… literally anything else. But I digress. The Pierces have been able to counter every move he’s made, and I’m hoping he has more in store.
Just when it seems there is a clear endgame for Black Lightning, the writers drop something new. Gambi and Anissa explain to Lauren how Tobias used her research and Monovista’s resources to do harm. When Lauren and Gambi search for the emitter, they find a large deposit of Promethium instead. It takes only small amounts of Promethium to power the direct energy guns, there is no telling what can be powered by the Prometheum that runs underneath Freeland. This could relate to whatever Tobias is planning or it could be nothing. But at this stage I expect there to be major implications of that discovery and I hope whatever it is, it shakes the show up!
Additional thoughts.
Ishmael should be issuing refunds! He hasn’t killed a single target except Lala who was caught slippin’ (and is technically still alive and encased in concrete). Why Tobias would then task him with killing Khalil, when he has yet to check a single box on his to-do, is beyond me. But Ishmael vs Khalil/Painkiller is a matchup I want to see.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
Jefferson asks Lynn to get remarried and she lightly brushes it off. They have been more toxic than not over the course of the show, and it could be really powerful for either or both of them to choose themselves over their relationship.

Black Lightning is Making the Most of Its Final Season
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
This Black Lightning article contains spoilers through Season 4, Episode 9.
The fourth season of Black Lightning will be its last and, barring any CW superhero crossover cameos or the greenlighting of the Painkiller spinoff, this may be the last time we will see these particular iterations of these comic book characters. The benefit of knowing the end is coming—a relative rarity in broadcast network TV, which are traditionally designed to run forever—is that it can allow writers to go places they might not otherwise go. With four episodes left ever, Black Lightning certainly isn’t holding any of its punches.
The latest episode of Black Lightning, “The Book of Ruin: Chapter Four: Lyding,” lives up to its title. The Pierces are going through it. Tobias has been plotting on the Pierces ever since he discovered their vigilante identities, and it seems his machinations have culminated into a single attack so devastating, it could bring an end to Black Lightning, Lightning, and Thunder. Gambi’s girlfriend completed her work on the Energy Field Emitter, which her superior at Monovista sells to Tobias. The emitter, coupled with meta-boosters harvested from Val—whose powers nullify meta abilities—creates an anti-meta field around Freeland, leaving every meta powerless. I hate to see a villain win, but I respect a well-executed plan.
Jefferson tracks down Ishmael and pulls him into confrontation, but loses his powers mid-fight. Ishmael is an experienced meta hunter, with practical and technical skills which, put up against Jefferson’s un-enhanced melee ability, puts him at a major advantage. Blackbird and Wylde only barely escaped Ishmael at their full power, and Jefferson is going toe-to-toe with him with nothing but vibes. It doesn’t look good. Meanwhile, a car guns down the street toward Anissa and she can’t thunderclap it to a halt or harden herself against the impact.
After Lightning goes on Instagram Live with her crush Uriah to fundraise for Garfield’s music program, Chief Lopez uses Uriah’s social media to lure Lightning into a trap. Lightning just manages to escape and takes to the sky, but she loses her powers mid-flight, and begins to free fall. JJ has survived a lot but a landing from that height would be fatal. Things are dire for the powered Pierces. Tobias isn’t just coming for the metas, though. He framed Jefferson for embezzling money from Garfield High, then implicated Lynn by making it seem as though her research was financed by those embezzled funds. The FBI confiscates all of Lynn’s files and research, and apparently finds (or creates) something incriminating enough to arrest her for.
Lynn is booked and processed, then denied her bodily autonomy as she’s forced to strip down, and cavity searched. This dehumanizing treatment is hard to watch, especially given what we know of her innocence. And yet it echoes similar treatment of Tobias by the ASA and Lynn. Whatever her motives, and however much Tobias may have deserved it, Lynn actively participated in his dehumanization. A one-to-one comparison can’t be made, because the individual circumstances differ, but there is a symmetry here. We have a different relationship to Lynn than we do Tobias, but the fundamental wrongness is stark when it’s someone we care about. I am interested to see whether this is interrogated at all.
Black Lightning has never pulled punches with the audience and this episode is aiming for a KO. We have seen Jefferson and the girls survive worse, but never alone, and never de-powered. The danger feels real, and the closer we get to the finish line, the less safe they should be. If there is one positive, it is that Khalil is back in Freeland, and he—and Painkiller—is on the Pierces side. The anti-meta field might take away Khalil’s ability to inject toxins (and their antidotes) but Painkiller and his myriad combat skills are in-tact and having shootas might be how the Pierces survive. It would be very nice if PK—Khalil nicknamed him—could provide an assist because Black Lightning needs the help, and I enjoy seeing him fight. But I don’t want things to be easy for any of them, Jefferson especially.
More than anything, I wanted this season of Black Lightning to push its characters to extremes, and this episode delivers on that. Jefferson, Lynn, Anissa, and JJ are in trouble, and it’s fun to anticipate how they’ll respond to that distress. I am invested in everyone, even Tobias, who I hate. As viewers, we want to feel like anything can happen, and that everything is possible, good or bad. We want the stakes to be real, and the results to feel earned. I’m coming away from “Lyding” excited about the possibilities.
Additional thoughts.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
Chief Lopez had to do more or do less. She’s interesting as a concept, but the lack of development beyond her tunnel vision for hunting metas is disappointing.

In Black Lightning, The Worst Villainy Isn’t Super
https://ift.tt/2Qa7817
This Black Lightning article contains spoilers for Season 4, Episode 8, “Things Fall Apart.”
Things really do fall apart in the latest episode of Black Lightning. After returning home from their honeymoon in the Akashic Valley, newlyweds Anissa and Grace are greeted warmly by the family in a surprise celebration. The reception is unfortunately cut short by the arrival of the FBI, who serve Jefferson a search warrant based on an accusation of embezzlement from Garfield High School. This is merely a start to what is clearly a coordinated effort by Tobias to ruin Jefferson Pierce.
The thing about being a pillar is that people look to you for support. And when you falter, it weakens the foundations of everything you helped build. Jefferson made Garfield a top performing school in the city, and the reverence the community has for him extends far enough that even ruthless gangsters like Lala put some respect on his name. It’s easy enough to convince people that metas are unnecessary and even dangerous, and it wouldn’t take much to make people question Black Lightning. But people know Jefferson, he’s a part of their lives. Jefferson Pierce embezzling from Garfield High is a serious betrayal, and even the mere accusation shakes people’s faith. And Freeland desperately needs faith.

TV
Why Black Lightning’s Jennifer Pierce Twist Works
By Nicole Hill
Tobias didn’t destroy Freeland, that’s on the Markovians and the ASA. But he did take advantage of the destruction. He preyed on the city’s vulnerability, and undermined the people’s faith in their existing institutions—which includes Jefferson Pierce and Black Lightning. And all of his plotting has given him leverage over the Pierces, and over the entire city of Freeland. He weaponized the people’s fear and their faith, and made himself a hero. Tobias has always been a real threat and he’s always just barely been beaten, but he’s learned a lot from his losses and is more dangerous than he’s ever been.
The first few episodes of the season saw Jefferson struggling to redefine his heroism in the face of his best friend’s death. He tried to hold onto Jefferson Pierce, educator and man of the community, and put masked vigilante, Black Lightning, away. Tobias has essentially taken that away, and now, again, Jefferson has to redefine himself in this new reality that Tobias has crafted. Whatever Tobias is planning with the new “hospital” and Monovista’s energy emitter cannot be good for Freeland. And with so much on their collective plate, the Pierces may not be able to stop it. Putting Jefferson in the city’s crosshairs keeps Black Lightning distracted, cause Jefferson will do whatever he can to restore people’s faith in him.
While Freeland has more heroes than ever, with JJ, Blackbird, and Wylde, there is also a meta-hunter in the city and he is more than a match for all of them. Ishmael attacks Anissa and Grace while they’re breaking into the hospital to get answers about a patient’s mysterious gene-editing treatment. Ishmael is powerful and he is studied, and they only gain the advantage in the fight when Grace fully transforms into her leopard form. Between Tobias and Ishmael, the Pierces are on the ropes. And with Chief Lopez, Monovista, the Kobra Cartel, the 100… There is no shortage of people coming for the Pierce family.
Black Lightning has always done a good job exploring different concepts of power, and it’s at its strongest when it is dismantling or recontextualizing what power is. Lynn is a great example of a character who has toed the line between powerless and empowered, and whose strengths and weaknesses are often flipped, making her a heroic victim of sorts. She’s powerful because she thrives when she’s at her lowest, but that means she often has to be broken down to find her most powerful self. The Pierces have all, at one point or another, been worn down. And they have all had to find ways to not just survive, but win. This season builds on that, and continues to take the Pierces to new depths, which will make whatever victories they have more gratifying. I expect things will get a lot worse for Jefferson before they get better, but I am still excitedly along for the ride.
Additional thoughts.
JJ is Jen but maybe is not and I don’t know what this means, but it could be yet another way the writers tear the Pierces down before building them back up.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
Gambi is really manipulating and gaslighting the hell up out this woman and of all the morally ambiguous things he’s done on this show, this feels the most egregious
