Akklimatisierung
2.11.2022
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Über diesen Pass hinten am Horizont geht es nach Tibet. Das war früher ein beliebter Schmugglerweg, aber inzwischen haben die Chinesen die Grenze wohl ziemlich dicht gemacht.
Tumblr media Tumblr media

Trekking Day 1: KTM - Lukla - Monjo
We woke up at very early o’clock, woke up the hostel guy, stored our non-trekking gear, and took a taxi to the aeroport’s beautiful domestic terminal (it is not beautiful). Our tickets told us to be two hours early for our flight. This was definitely not necessary. Everyone was very confused as to why we were there so early. Before embarking on this journey, I had heard many unfavourable things about flying to Lukla, namely, expect major delays (like delays of days to weeks). So imagine my surprise when they bumped us on to an earlier flight and took that tiny horrible plane off right on schedule. Basically, they crammed all 11 of us onto a tiny squishy toy airplane, gave a brief safety thing (essentially: if we crash you’ll die so don’t worry about it), and off we went. I remember being very angry at this point (what a surprise) because the Austrian chick seated in the exit row was not taking her job seriously at all and not listening to the flight attendant (yes, there’s a flight attendant for a 25 minute flight of 11 people).
Tumblr media
This is a plane. It is also a very bad picture of a very bad exit row attendant. But that’s not my problem.
Just as I was about to push team Austria out of the way and do her job myself, the plane started limping down the runway. For real. It limped. Like one of the wheels was broken or something. At this point I was about to ask if the plane could please be stopped so I could get off. It started limping faster. And faster. I closed my eyes and assumed the brace position. We were airborne. Oh jeez. This part wasn’t too bad actually; Nepal is very pretty from the air. Then the flight attendant gave us candies. Then it was time to land. There were clouds over Lukla (the planes can’t land or take off if it’s too cloudy as there’s no radar system on board), so we did a big circle to kill time. By the time our circle was finished, there was a nice hole in the clouds (I couldn’t see this since I was sitting in the back, this is just what I was told) and the Most Dangerous Runway in the World was visible (again, not to me. And I was fine with that). We began plummeting towards the runway. For real. Like you just fall out of the sky. Again, I assumed the brace position (because someone pays attention to the safety demos). We hit the tiny runway hard and fast, and bounced once (this is protocol; it’s the only way to slow the plane down quickly enough that you don’t hit the mountains on the other side). And then we stopped. Everyone clapped. Not me. If I clapped every time someone did their job and didn’t murder me, my hands would be very tired. Then I ran off the plane, hit my head on the doorway, and grabbed my backpack where it had been left on the tarmac. And then we started to walk.
Tumblr media
This is an airport.
We did a few laps around Lukla because the trail isn’t too obvious. I met lots of nice dogs and three puppies. Then someone pointed us to the trail, we got our permits, and started on our way. Discouragingly, the first few km’s are downhill. Happily, we met lots more doggos and also cute childrens. Not happily, we soon came to the first of many horrible suspension bridges. This bad boy was max tall (unnecessarily so, in my opinion) and took us over a big deadly Rushing River. This bridge made me cry. But then a porter came up behind me (those are the people whos’ job is just to carry enormous amounts of stuff up the mountain on their backs) so I had to get moving. I kept crying though because I’m not even that brave.
Anyways, I didn’t die on the bridge and we soon arrived in Phakding. We stopped there for lunch and also to meet a lovely cat. Also I petted a baby cow here J I love petting. From Phakding the trail was straight up the moun10 and it was very hot. Also there were more suspension bridges. Luckily I met a doggo who accompanied us all the way to our destination for emotional support. Even across the horrible bridges. A very brave and handsome boy.
Tumblr media
Christopher does not like cats. He is also very allergic to them. I love this cat.
Tumblr media
POTATO ITEM.
When Christopher, the dog, and I arrived in Monjo, we got our permits checked by a nice army dude who was very surprised at how far we had walked. Then we went to the Monjo Guesthouse, which was probably the best lodge on the entire trek. It is owned and run by the Potato Queen of Monjo, a true legend and inspiration. She brought us free Welcome Potatoes from her garden. Also she made us delicious dal bhat (probably the best on the trek as well) and tea. Also she had a lot of books. And a free hot shower (this is extremely uncommon). 15/10 worth walking to Monjo for.

The trekkers may encounter endangered birds, animals, or plants while treading inside the wood. The trekking trail also offers the introductory view of Mt. Everest under the blue canopy after crossing the suspension bridge over Dudhkosi (river).
Namche Bazaar is a popular ‘tourist hub’ and a popular stop for night stay in the Everest region hail the trekkers and tourists with all modern amenities. Although Namche Bazaar serves delicious cuisine and international beverage, the experts recommend not to eat unhygienic food and alcohol to avoid AMS in higher elevations. The trail from Namche Bazaar inclines towards the holy village Tengboche with the beautiful view of sparkling peaks: Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nuptse, Taboche, and Thamserku. After meandering through a twisting and turning trail, the water-driven wheel near Phunke Tenga village inspires the trekkers to keep walking to the Tengboche monastery.
Tengboche is renowned for the sacred Tengboche gompa (monastery) which is encircled amidst the gigantic peaks: Taboche, Cholatse, Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Khagtega, and Thamserku. The Gompa is the center of attraction for many national and international Buddhist pilgrims during the Mani Rimdu festival in the month of October and November.

The village also offers the vista of serene dusk in the dimming sky and grants the opportunity for the perfect shot of silhouette. The peculiar feature of the village is the fields surrounded by stones wall to protect the crops from the icy and sandy wind. The trekking trail from Dingboche then leads to other Sherpa village Lobuche via Thukla. The village lies near the foot of the Khumbu glacier and offers the panoramic sight of towering snow-capped Lobuche east (6,119m), and Lobuche west (6,145m) with a view of Everest Base Camp on the glacier with Khumbu icefall. The village is small and has limited tea houses so the trekkers have to share the dormitory during the peak season. Lobuche is popular among trekkers for night stay.
As the trails leads gradually uphill through moraine glacier, sandpit, and boulders along Imja river valley, the trekkers feel the trail more strenuous while heading to Gorakshep which is (5,180m). The village is the last human settlement in the Everest Himalayan region which serves the trekkers with internet access and cozy accommodation. It is a platform to ascend Everest Base Camp (5,364m) or Kala Patthar Summit (5,643m). The hike from Gorakshep to EBC is the most awaited journey for all the trekkers. Trekkers feel gratitude and blessed for the perfect scenery of Khumbu icefall and Nuptse (7,861m). Enjoy the most precious time at EBC and celebrate your triumph by singing dancing and capturing photos and videos.
The prime highlight of Rapid Everest Base Camp Trek is a short trip to Kala Patthar summit in the early morning for the sparkling sunrise over Mt. Everest and Nuptse. The trip is so rewarding as it offers a 360-degree view of the Himalayan range and panoramic landscape. After spending some wonderful hours at the peak, the trail drops down to Gorakshep where trekkers devour their breakfast before heading towards Pheriche. Eventually, the trail declines to Namche, and then Lukla following the same route accepts Pheriche for the thrilling mountain flight to Kathmandu

Everest 3 Passes Trek
Everest 3 Passes Trek is a challenging adventure in the Khumbu region designed especially for experienced trekkers. It is a remote, rugged and arguably the most complete trek in Nepal which covers most of the Everest region on its loop route. As its name suggests the trek crosses 3 passes Renjo La, Cho La and Kongma La all of which are higher than 5000m.
You spend 19 days completing the trek which includes two days for acclimatization and a reserve day in Kathmandu. Tenzing Hillary Airport in Lukla serves as the main access point to the Khumbu region. The flight to Lukla itself is a memorable experience thanks to its epic mountain sceneries and heart stopping tiny runway. The trek begins slowly towards Namche during which you can see beautiful waterfalls, plenty of temples, lush forests and lots and lots of mules. Namche is a definite surprise for the trekkers as it appears to be a village but is more like a city. After Dingboche, the trees start to disappear and the vegetation mostly consists of bushes often covered in snow. Everest Base Camp is the marquee destination in the Khumbu region which is why that particular route is often crowded with people. You pick your way through giant boulders and strong cold winds to reach the stunning Everest Base Camp which provides panoramic views of the mountains. Before crossing the final pass Renjo La, you explore the turquoise Gokyo lakes and hike to Gokyo Ri. Everest 3 Passes Trek is no walk in the park and requires serious physical fitness. The climb to the top of the passes is especially challenging due to their steep slope, high altitude and dehydration.
Peak Promotion has been arranging treks and mountain expeditions in the Khumbu region for a long time now. Our trek guides are the local Sherpas born and raised in the region who know the surroundings like the back of their palm. Trekking with them will provide you the finest experience of the Khumbu region.
