There are soooo many. As a very young child, I was very into David the Gnome, though I couldn't tell you what it was about other than "a gnome and some animals" it's been so long. I watched a shitload of Scooby Doo and other Hanna Barbera cartoons too? Then at one point I would come home from school and watch a solid 3 hours of Looney Tunes. In high school, it was Batman: The Animated Series and Jonny Quest: The Real Adventures.

💜 favorite scent?

One time Bath & Body Works made this special Summer 2003 scent called grapefruit jasmine and it was AMAZING. In general though, light citrus scents -- grapefruit, citron, that kinda thing? Tart tangerine. Also jasmine, ylang ylang, that sort of thing?

This is why I'm taking my time with this next book in my plot-heavy sci-fi romance porn-ish series! I want to do what I did in STARFISH, I want to go back to building cultures and religions and traditional meals and games and and and! EVERY story has a place for world-building, no matter how short 😃

The stuff I had SO MUCH FUN with in STARFISH was developing the biology, the plants, the scenery, the local customs, the FOOD! All that effort paid off, too, because as of this writing STARFISH is sitting at 76K reads!

Stuff I WISH I had done more work with for The Dragon Prince's Consort:

The religion - I made references to the Firemother, but I never really went into WHO she is or why she's the Drass version of God

More food - I should have developed a recipe or something, like some alien equivalent of buuz or khuushuur, something you the reader could make at home and get an idea

The local biology - I wish I'd gone more into the flora and fauna of Anun and especially Baishin, to show the variety of critters that live in the universe inside my mind. I've been watching Scavenger's Reign and my brain is DOING THINGS. I made like ONE reference to some cliff-dwelling birdlike things and I should have had a scene where Valen or Fang watched some and talked about... stuff

Music and dance - why didn't I do this???? Mongolia and Russia have very DISTINCT dances like the kalinka, that would have been AMAZING to have some giant dragon-aliens throwing down some slick moves to offset their huge size

More about their drinking practices! I wrote a LOT about white algae liquor for STARFISH, I should have come up with more than just whiskey and beer. Like... teaflower-scented whiskey and fingerberry wine, cocktail ice made from a very specific type of snow (like a rare type of snow that only happens under VERY specific conditions or something), stuff like that

I know there's more, but the point here is FLESH OUT YOUR WORLDS THROUGH STORYTELLING, don't fall for the commercialization and commodification of plot! You don't ever JUST wake up, go to work, come home and go to bed, you get up and smell the soap you use in the shower, you notice how your coffee tastes when it's getting old, you have irritating encounters with terrible drivers and sing along to your favorite songs when you drive home. THAT'S the part of the story you get readers to relate to, that's how you make the biggest impact as a Capital W Writer. I fully agree with @rs-hawk in that the 'filler' is where the magic happens, the little everyday things that add flavor and color and texture and smell to the world you're creating. Death to plot necessity! Death to expediency! Bring back the Beach Episode and the Festival Arc! Fill your stories with Sound and Vision a la Bowie and his electric blue room 💙

Working on my novel and couldn’t figure out why it felt so empty. I didn’t have any filler. It was all 100% plot. The characters only interacted when necessary. I didn’t prattle on about the scenery or how the birds sounded. I had all my fuller stuff that I loved saved in another file because I “didn’t need it”.

Y’all, I knew this existed in TV shows but it didn’t hit me until this that everything is being whittled down. We are so starving for filler that we snap up anything. I unload all mine on Tumblr or keep it in a massive Google Docs. It SUCKS.

Honestly? Death to plot necessity. Revive filler. Revive unnecessary interactions. Revive just vibing with characters sometimes. I don’t want to just consume the plot and I don’t want to just create the plot either.

Ohman this is hard. The wet streets and ground after the rain, lilacs, the salty ocean breeze on a beach. Just earthly scents with lilacs being the flowery scent I will never get enough of. Also I recently learned that I sometimes mistake hot asphalt wafting in the wind with the smell of the beach thanks to living on an island in the city lmao

I have several. First, just pasta with fried egg and sausage and ketchup. Then fried seasoned minced meat with spinach and blue cheese. And French fries with chicken nuggets ans Mayo.

Japan. Or New Zealand. Or Mongolia. I have several. But those are my favs.

Scarves. I love them. Thin, thick, long, short. I have a habit of collecting them but not wearing them hehe

Hi! What are you reading right now and what fics do you recommend? What has been your favorite thing about creating the Bellarkefics 4 BLM? We really appreciate everything you’re doing for the cause!

Aw thanks that’s really sweet! 💙 Although it is absolutely a group effort between all our writers, content creators, and readers donating...my type A personality is simply yelling at people to submit prompts and tracking $$$ 😂 And to answer what my fav part is - that’s it. It’s really awesome that people care about this and the group of us that came together to write and create are awesome (and on that note, all writers & content creators are welcome to join!).

I’m really only reading and writing fic right now. I am rereading Tiny, Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed. She’s the author of Wild and this is a book collection of responses for an anon advice column she used to write for called Dear, Sugar. I encourage anyone wadding through their 20s (and really anyone in general!) to read this - it’s full of beautiful advice and stories, makes you think about life and appreciate things. I think it’s especially poignant given the state of our world right now. If you’re not going to read it, honestly at least read the quotes on goodreads - here are 5 of my favs:

Most things will be okay eventually, but not everything will be. Sometimes you'll put up a good fight and lose. Sometimes you'll hold on really hard and realize there is no choice but to let go. Acceptance is a small, quiet room.

I'll never know, and neither will you, of the life you don't choose. We'll only know that whatever that sister life was, it was important and beautiful and not ours. It was the ghost ship that didn't carry us. There's nothing to do but salute it from the shore.

There will be boondoggles and discombobulated days, freaked-out nights and metaphorical flat tires. But it will be soul-smashingly beautiful… It will open up your life.

I Found Peace In Your Violence by @eyessharpweaponshot . I could sit here and gush about Jen’s fics all day but I haven’t been this into a fic in a while. It’s just getting started but I get SO excited for updates - the premise is so cool/unique and the bellarke dynamic is already 👌🏻👌🏻

sometimes (this has a hot, sweet taste) by @selflessbellamy . This fic is somehow both so soft and hot at the same time - such an emotionally nuanced FWB fic I can’t get enough of.

Intertwining your soul (with somebody else) by @changingthefairy-tale . Madison and I enjoy inflicting each other w pain and angst and god does she follow through. This premise is so good and I haven’t read one like it - canonverse AU, Heda!Bellamy childhood friends with Clarke and betrothed to SOMEONE ELSE. The angst and chemistry is delicious and I want to cry, but I’m enjoying the tears.

Say you’ll remember me by @nakey-cats-take-bathsss . Leah indulged me when I shouted into the void that I wanted a song fic to t swift’s ‘wildest dreams’ and damn she did not disappoint.

it’s a small world by virgohotspot. If you can’t tell from ABOY, unplanned pregnancy is one of my fav tropes and damn does this deliver. It’s exes to lovers and Clarke gets pregnant from a one night stand with Bellamy 10 years after they broke up. This fic is beautiful and I love that it gets into the real issue of balancing work and family, and the angst is wonderful.

Surely You Must Know (it was all for you) by @elora-lane . I know A/B/O fics aren’t everyone’s thing, but this fic is beautiful and I adore it. It’s 18th century/pride & prejudice vibes A/B/O fic which I’ve never seen done and she does an incredible job with it. On the note of A/B/O, Good was updated after a year - this was the first A/B/O fic I read that got me hooked after I was afraid of the trope for a long time...do with that what you will.

A Twist of Fate by @queenemori . This was one of the best soulmate fics I’ve read and so soft and wonderful - highlight was a clurphy brotp. They host a podcast together and it’s the most adorable.

brokenness is a form of art by @animmortalist . A canon-divergent bellarke/murven fic that explores what would have happened if at the end of S4, Bellamy stayed behind on Earth with Clarke and Raven had to step up to lead Spacekru. The fic is awesome and damn if I don’t kind of wish this was canon...

Red Sky At Night by @excuseyouclarke . I requested this prompt (by @broashwhat ) for @bellarkefic-for-blm and omg she did not disappoint. I’m halfway through but let’s just say I never knew how badly I needed pirate captain!clarke until now and she writes it so beautifully.
