Global defense spending, led by US and China, hits new high (Stars & Stripes) The U.S. and China led the growth in global defense spending, which hit a new high in 2020 despite the economic stress brought on by the coronavirus pandemic, a report said Thursday. In its annual report on military power, the International Institute for Strategic Studies said total military expenditures added up to $1.83 trillion in 2020, a 3.9% increase over the previous year. “This came despite the coronavirus pandemic and the subsequent contraction in global economic output,” the London-based think tank said in a statement. The United States remained the top spender, accounting for 40.3% of global spending. But China and other Asian powers concerned about Beijing’s rise also spent more, albeit at a somewhat slower pace than in 2019 because of the pandemic, IISS said in its “Military Balance” report. The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute pegged Chinese defense spending at $261 billion in 2019.
Almost a fifth of ALL US dollars were created this year (City A.M./UK) About 20 per cent of all US dollars were created this year. The Federal Reserve has printed unprecedented amounts of money to support the coronavirus-stricken economy. It has sparked debates about inflation and helped asset prices soar. Data from the Fed shows that a broad measure of the stock of dollars, known as M2, rose from $15.34 trillion (£11.87 trillion) at the start of the year to $18.72 trillion in September. The increase of $3.38 trillion equates to 18 per cent of the total supply of dollars. It means almost one in five dollars was created in 2020. The huge growth in the stock of dollars reflects the massive interventions in the economy by the Fed, which is in control of the US’s money supply. Although it is often described as printing money, the Fed in practice creates digital dollars to buy up government bonds and other securities in the secondary market. The policy, known as quantitative easing (QE), aims to flood the markets with cash to keep borrowing cheap. Banks also create money when they lend. Most money in the economy is created this way. Only about $2 trillion are in circulation as physical currency.
Countries call on drug companies to share vaccine know-how (AP) In an industrial neighborhood on the outskirts of Bangladesh’s largest city lies a factory with gleaming new equipment imported from Germany, its immaculate hallways lined with hermetically sealed rooms. It is operating at just a quarter of its capacity. It is one of three factories that The Associated Press found on three continents whose owners say they could start producing hundreds of millions of COVID-19 vaccines on short notice if only they had the blueprints and technical know-how. But that knowledge belongs to the large pharmaceutical companies who produce the first three vaccines authorized by countries including Britain, the European Union and the U.S.—Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca. The factories are all still awaiting responses. Across Africa and Southeast Asia, governments and aid groups, as well as the WHO, are calling on pharmaceutical companies to share their patent information more broadly to meet a yawning global shortfall in a pandemic that already has claimed nearly 2.5 million lives. Pharmaceutical companies that took taxpayer money from the U.S. or Europe to develop inoculations at unprecedented speed say they are negotiating contracts and exclusive licensing deals with producers on a case-by-case basis because they need to protect their intellectual property and ensure safety. Critics say this piecemeal approach is just too slow at a time of urgent need to stop the virus before it mutates into even deadlier forms.
As School Closures Near First Anniversary, a Diverse Parent Movement Demands Action (NYT) Aquené Tyler, a mother and hair stylist in North Philadelphia, has been disappointed in her neighborhood’s public schools for many years. There were too few books and computers. Even before the pandemic, some schools were shuttered for asbestos removal. Now, her 9-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter have been learning online for nearly a year, even as masked children gather boisterously at local private schools. Ms. Tyler’s children are lonely, and Mya, who is in eighth grade, seems depressed and overwhelmed by her class work. She has begun seeing a counselor remotely. So Ms. Tyler is planning a radical change: moving her family to Florida, where the Republican-controlled state government has mandated that all districts provide in-person learning five days per week. A niece there is attending traditional public school in Sarasota, complete with sports, arts and music. A year into the pandemic, less than half of students nationwide are attending public schools that offer traditional, full-time schedules. Now many parents are beginning to rebel, frustrated with the pace of reopening and determined to take matters into their own hands. Some are making contingency plans to relocate, home-school or retreat to private education if their children’s routines continue to be disrupted this fall—a real possibility. Other parents are filing lawsuits, agitating at public meetings, creating political action committees, or running for school board seats.
Prince Philip moved to specialized London heart hospital (AP) Prince Philip was transferred Monday to a specialized London heart hospital to undergo testing and observation for a pre-existing heart condition as he continues to be treated for an unspecified infection, Buckingham Palace said. The 99-year-old husband of Queen Elizabeth II was moved from King Edward VII’s Hospital, where he has been treated since Feb. 17, to St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, which specializes in cardiac care. The palace says Philip “remains comfortable and is responding to treatment but is expected to remain in hospital until at least the end of the week.” Philip married the then-Princess Elizabeth in 1947 and is the longest-serving royal consort in British history. He and the queen have four children, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
France’s Sarkozy convicted of corruption, sentenced to jail (AP) A Paris court on Monday found French former President Nicolas Sarkozy guilty of corruption and influence peddling and sentenced him to one year in prison and a two-year suspended sentence. The 66-year-old politician, who was president from 2007 to 2012, was convicted for having tried to illegally obtain information from a senior magistrate in 2014 about a legal action in which he was involved. The court said Sarkozy is entitled to request to be detained at home with an electronic bracelet. This is the first time in France’s modern history that a former president has been convicted of corruption.
China Appears to Warn India: Push Too Hard and the Lights Could Go Out (NYT) Early last summer, Chinese and Indian troops clashed in a surprise border battle in the remote Galwan Valley, bashing each other to death with rocks and clubs. Four months later and more than 1,500 miles away in Mumbai, India, trains shut down and the stock market closed as the power went out in a city of 20 million people. Hospitals had to switch to emergency generators to keep ventilators running amid a coronavirus outbreak that was among India’s worst. Now, a new study lends weight to the idea that those two events may well have been connected—as part of a broad Chinese cybercampaign against India’s power grid, timed to send a message that if India pressed its claims too hard, the lights could go out across the country. The study shows that as the standoff continued in the Himalayas, taking at least two dozen lives, Chinese malware was flowing into the control systems that manage electric supply across India, along with a high-voltage transmission substation and a coal-fired power plant. The discovery raises the question about whether an outage that struck on Oct. 13 in Mumbai, one of the country’s busiest business hubs, was meant as a message from Beijing about what might happen if India pushed its border claims too vigorously.
Rogue ATMs (Nikkei Asia) Fully 2,956 ATMs out of 5,395 machines operated by Mizuho Bank in Japan have gone rogue, with the machines unable to dispense cash and devouring cards. The bug is related to an issue that popped up when the bank was updating its data, and 55 percent of Mizuho’s branches have been forced to shut down.
Pope’s risky trip to Iraq defies sceptics (Reuters) Rockets have hit Iraqi cities and COVID-19 has flared, yet, barring last-minute changes, Pope Francis will embark on a whirlwind four-day trip starting on Friday to show solidarity with the country’s devastated Christian community. Keen to get on the road again after the pandemic put paid to several planned trips, he convinced some perplexed Vatican aides that it is worth the risk and that, in any case, his mind was made up, three Vatican sources said. The March 5-8 trip will be Francis’ first outside Italy since November 2019, when he visited Thailand and Japan. Four trips planned for 2020 were cancelled because of COVID-19. “He really feels that need to reach out to people on their home ground,” said a Vatican prelate who is familiar with Iraq and who spoke on condition of anonymity. “The pope knows where he is going. He is deliberately coming to an area marked by war and violence to bring a message of peace,” Archbishop Bashar Warda of Erbil told reporters on a recent conference call.
Iran insists U.S. lift sanctions first to revive nuclear deal talks (Reuters) Iran said on Monday the United States should lift sanctions first if it wants to hold talks with Tehran to salvage the 2015 nuclear deal with world powers that former President Donald Trump abandoned. President Joe Biden has said Washington is ready for talks about both nations resuming compliance with the pact, under which Tehran secured an easing of sanctions by limiting its nuclear work. But each side wants the other to move first. The West fears Iran wants to build nuclear weapons, while Tehran says that has never been its goal.
Netanyahu accuses Iran of attacking Israeli-owned cargo ship (AP) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday accused Iran of attacking an Israeli-owned ship in the Gulf of Oman last week, a mysterious explosion that further spiked security concerns in the region. Without offering any evidence to his claim, Netanyahu told Israeli public broadcaster Kan that “it was indeed an act by Iran, that’s clear.” “Iran is the greatest enemy of Israel, I am determined to halt it. We are hitting it in the entire region,” Netanyahu said. The blast struck the Israeli-owned MV Helios Ray, a Bahamian-flagged roll-on, roll-off vehicle cargo ship, as it was sailing out of the Middle East on its way to Singapore on Friday. The crew was unharmed, but the vessel sustained two holes on its port side and two on its starboard side just above the waterline, according to American defense officials. It remains unclear what caused Friday’s blast on the Helios Ray. Iran responded to Netanyahu’s statement saying it “strongly rejected” the claim that it was behind the attack. In a press briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said Netanyahu was “suffering from an obsession with Iran” and described his charges as “fear-mongering.”
Thousands flee rebel violence in Central African Republic (AP) Monique Moukidje fled her home in Central African Republic’s town of Bangassou in January when rebels attacked with heavy weapons, the fighting killing more than a dozen people. “I ran away because the bullets have no eyes,” the 34-year-old said sitting in the shade while waiting for water purification tablets, a tarp, and other supplies to help her in Mbangui-Ngoro, a village where she and hundreds of other displaced people are sheltering. She is among an estimated 240,000 people displaced in the country since mid-December, according to U.N. relief workers, when rebels calling themselves the Coalition of Patriots for Change launched attacks, first to disrupt the Dec. 27 elections and then to destabilize the newly-elected government of President Faustin Archange Touadera. The rebels’ fighting has enveloped the country and caused a humanitarian crisis in the already unstable nation. Hundreds of thousands of people are also left without basic food or health care, and with the main roads between Central African Republic and Cameroon closed for almost two months, prices have skyrocketed leaving families unable to afford food.
Nigerian governor says 279 kidnapped schoolgirls are freed (AP) Hundreds of Nigerian schoolgirls abducted last week from a boarding school in the northwestern Zamfara state have been released, the state’s governor said Tuesday. Zamfara state governor Bello Matawalle announced that 279 girls have been freed. The government last week said 317 had been kidnapped. Gunmen abducted the girls from the Government Girls Junior Secondary School in Jangebe town on Friday, in the latest in a series of mass kidnappings of students in the West African nation.

Immigrants are still sending lots of money home despite the coronavirus job losses – for now
A girl counts cash outdoors a U.S. remittance assortment company in San Isidro, El Salvador. Marvin Recinos/AFP by way of Getty Pictures
Banks and help businesses have been warning of a pandemic-related plunge within the amount of cash despatched by migrants to household again residence who depend on the revenue. In a typical yr, greater than 270 million migrants dwelling and dealing overseas ship these money transfers, often called remittances, to their residence international locations.
But to date, regardless of the lockdowns which have devastated wealthier economies and brought about huge unemployment, remittances have usually held up this yr. In some circumstances they’ve even been greater than normal, based mostly on our overview of the newest accessible knowledge and press releases for prime remittance recipient international locations. Remittances to Mexico, for instance, surged 9.4% within the first eight months of the yr. Pakistan can also be experiencing a file enhance, whereas money transfers to such international locations as Vietnam and the Philippines have held regular.
There just a few doubtless causes for the constructive information for these and different international locations – however there’s additionally cause to fret.
The significance of remittances
Remittances usually stream from wealthy international locations just like the U.S., the United Arab Emirates and Germany to lower- and middle-income international locations.
In 2019, migrants despatched a file US$554 billion residence, 20% greater than the earlier yr. That is greater than the sum of all investments made by international corporations in such growing international locations and over triple the quantity of help governments present.
Remittances are additionally extra reliable than both worldwide help or funding. Throughout unhealthy occasions, remittances have a tendency to extend, whereas international investments normally fall. And past immediately supporting the supposed recipient, they’re important for serving to poorer nations battle poverty and enhance well being care and training.
Our analysis with Michael Clemens on Filipino staff in South Korea, for instance, discovered that abroad work elevated funding of their youngsters’s training and well being care by a number of hundred %. In such South Asian international locations as Nepal, Pakistan and Bangladesh, remittances have helped cut back poverty.
In some international locations, remittances are a considerable a part of the nationwide economic system, in some circumstances making up as a lot as 30% of GDP.
Because of this forecasts of a pointy drop in remittances because of the coronavirus pandemic and lockdowns have been so alarming. In April, the World Financial institution projected a 20% decline in remittances to low- and middle-income international locations. This may have amounted to greater than $100 billion in misplaced revenue, equal to two-thirds of all international help distributed by governments in 2019.
Remittances keep sturdy
Many international locations did expertise an preliminary hit to remittances within the spring, however summer season money transfers principally made up for it. And a few international locations have skilled rising remittances all through the pandemic.
Mexico, which took in over $38 billion final yr, acquired probably the most remittances in a single month ever in March, with money transfers persevering with to surge via the summer season. Egypt is seeing an almost 8% bounce this yr.
Within the Philippines, the place remittances make up 10% of GDP, cash transfers decreased within the spring however principally recovered later within the yr. The story was comparable in Vietnam, Bangladesh, El Salvador and Honduras.
Some doubtless causes
So what explains these rising or regular remittance flows? Whereas there’s no definitive reply due to an absence of knowledge, there are just a few prospects.
Regardless of the onset of extreme recessions, many migrant staff have been in a position to preserve incomes revenue. For one factor, they are usually employed in important companies similar to agriculture and building that haven’t suffered as a lot through the pandemic. In Europe, in sure important sectors, migrant staff account for a 3rd of all staff.
And governments in some international locations similar to Italy and Portugal have carried out reforms which might be making it simpler for undocumented staff to entry companies and even providing short-term citizenship to some. France, Spain and Germany, in the meantime, are opening up sectors of their economic system to migrants and asylum seekers that have been beforehand closed to them.
All of this makes it simpler for migrant staff to maintain incomes and sending cash residence to their households, who could also be struggling much more than their kin of their rich host international locations.
Analysis has discovered that migrant staff usually ship extra remittances residence when their international locations of origin are experiencing financial hardship. This altruism is the explanation many staff select emigrate overseas within the first place. Jesus Perlera, a employee from El Salvador who has not stopped sending remittances to his mom regardless of his personal financial challenges, instructed The New York Instances: “If I don’t help her, how will she eat?”
One other issue doubtless driving remittances is authorities stimulus spending. Whereas quite a lot of pandemic help isn’t accessible to undocumented immigrants within the U.S., California, for one, allow them to entry the $1,200 financial impression checks despatched out as a part of the coronavirus reduction invoice. Goldman Sachs credited this coronavirus spending for the sturdy remittances to Mexico, whereas the World Financial institution cited social safety packages similar to unemployment and in-kind transfers for shoring up migrant staff around the globe.
For migrants who’re having extra problem discovering work, the choice to maneuver again residence might also spur a flurry of remittance exercise as they ship their financial savings forward of their very own departures.
[You’re smart and curious about the world. So are The Conversation’s authors and editors. You can get our highlights each weekend.]
It’s additionally potential a few of the obvious enhance in remittances, as in Pakistan, is synthetic. Historically, giant quantities of remittances have been despatched via casual means, similar to money despatched or carried by migrants once they go to residence. The pandemic has pressured extra folks to make digital transfers, that are loads simpler to trace however don’t essentially point out a rise in remittances.
A crash should come
Whereas the truth that remittances have held up is nice information for growing international locations and their populations, which have been hit particularly onerous by the pandemic, there are worrying indicators that we could but see the expected crash.
The return of migrants to their residence international locations means they’re not in a position to earn more money that they’ll ship again to their households. Some 78,000 migrant staff from Bangladesh, for instance, have already returned residence since April due to the pandemic. And the Worldwide Group for Migration interviewed migrants from Mexico and Central America in June and located that 41% had stopped sending remittances, whereas over 80% of these nonetheless sending cash had decreased the quantities.
At the same time as some international locations elevate restrictions on migrant staff, others are including new ones or denying visas. The Group for Financial Cooperation and Improvement issued a report on Oct. 19 indicating that the variety of visas and residence permits international locations issued within the first half of the yr fell by 46% from 2019.
Given how a lot so many individuals depend upon remittances, we imagine help businesses and governments ought to monitor the info rigorously and do what they’ll to guard this fragile lifeline.

Digital payments have been favored as of late, as people avoid going out to public spaces due to the coronavirus. More and more fintech firms are trying to catch the digital wave and new alliances are being formed some of which are as under:
UK-based fintech company paysend partners with Alipay
UK-based fintech company Paysend has partnered with Alipay to provide its users with a cross-border money transfer capability. Furthermore, Paysend has its own global network of banks, international, and local payment systems, and has partnerships with the major international card networks Visa, Mastercard, and China Union Pay as a principal member and certified processor.
Terrapay and Bank Alfalah team up to offer remittance payment services in Pakistan

G7 – The Cost of Uselessness The G7 Summit is an obsolete, useless talking shop, as Finnian Cunningham so adroitly says. RT calls it The Unbearable Pointlessness of G7. Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, UK, and the United States constitute the G7 gang. It should strike any logical thinker as extremely odd that the world’s largest economy (by purchasing parity-based GDP), China, is not part of the club. Why is that? – It’s clear, the club is for western turbo-capitalist ideologues only; the self-proclaimed world hegemons. Yes, the G7 are, no doubt, a useless talking shop – and much worse. These seven self-nominated leaders of the world are also among the greatest war criminals of the globe. They are involved in and initiate conflicts and wars that have in the last 20 years – roughly since 9/11 gave them a ‘free pass’ to raise in the name of fighting endless terrorism havoc around the globe – killed an estimated 15 to 20 million people, either directly or by proxy and mercenary armies. That is of course much worse than uselessness. *** Does anyone ever talk about the value and cost, of these ‘summits’? – The value, i.e. the output, is at best zero – and in most cases negative. These conferences highlight conflicts, create new ones and add to the fire what was just smoldering. And I am not talking about the Brazilian amazon fires. This was the case of the G7 in Biarritz. The high-ranking delegates were insulting each other, plus, as this was not enough, barbs were thrown back and forth across the Atlantic between Macron and Bolsonaro. That just shows about what level of human consciousness we are talking. Trump was confusing the lot, or those who paid any attention to the outbursts of the creator of pure chaos, more tariffs on Chinese goods, then not, then again, levying tariffs for French wines, new sanctions against Iran, Venezuela, threats of new aggressions and even war with Iran; and surprise-surprise “Kim Jon-un, North Korea’s President, is a friend”. Peace talks were not even on the back-burner. So, it would be fair to say, the benefits or values of this summit were less than zilch, they were negative. It was a laughable propaganda stint, but an expensive one at that. Defining the costs of the event is a rather complex algorithm. However, any cost for an event that produces a sum of negative values, is money thrown into a bottomless pit. The costs, of course, do not just amount to travel, lodging, good food and drink – they include for starters also the entire entourage of the megalo-politicians, police and military security. Biarritz alone was protected by about 20,000 police and military troops combined, they shielded the worldly leaders (sic) from anti-G7 / anti-establishment demonstrators. Protests are widely justified against this clan of smiling tyrants and despots, with the audacity to appoint themselves to the world’s rulers. No UN or other international body has selected or ratified them. Their arrogance with impunity is meant to irradiate power around the globe. Their smoke of grandeur emanating from their heads can most likely be seen from space. The sad story is that the vast majority of this world, especially the western world, takes them seriously. They bow to the G7 nonsense; they accept their often-criminal decisions for wars, conflicts and killer-sanctions, as God-given. – The G7 decide over the fate of sovereign nations, like Iran, Venezuela, Cuba, Syria, Afghanistan – and who is next? – If it wasn’t for Russia and China the damage, they cause would indeed be unbearable. They selected themselves as rulers of the universe. Unheard of, only half a century ago, that something so aberrant like the G7, the G20, the WEF (World Economic Forum that meets every January in lush Davos, Switzerland), are able to assemble many of the same rulers to hold the scepter of power over the planet. How come the peoples of this world allow their supremacy with impunity? – One can but shake one’s head about this lunacy – what has humanity become? The Trump delegation usually travels with a flock of aids, journalists, advisors, let alone his bodyguards – and the blinded cars he brings from Washington by special air carriers. And all the others? Maybe slightly less, as they are – as vassals of the Great US Emperor – bound to be a bit more modest. Nevertheless, the total cost must be in the hundreds of millions – all counted, including shadow costs, environmental damage, CO2 emissions, and ‘externalities’ – which includes everything that establishment economists don’t want you to know, say a total cost of 200 to 300 million dollars? Maybe that’s an underestimate. The published figure on what Biarritz alone spent on this illustrious event is around US$ 41 million equivalent, 15,000 police and about 5,000 troops, but not counting for the damage caused by the authorities fighting peaceful protesters. Add to this the cost of all the other attendants. Never mind the exact cost – the sheer fact that a grotesque amount of money in the range of 200 to 300 million dollars, is spent for nothing, zilch, for the bolstering of egos of some megalos, is an absurdity of our western civilization. Hundreds of millions of dollars – a fiat currency produced at will and whim by the Federal reserve (The FED – the entirely privately owned US Central Bank) – nevertheless a currency that still drives much of the world, is used to pay for basics, like food, housing, clothing, health care and what’s left of education – meaning what the world rulers are still allowing young people to be educated with. Just think about it – who pays for all these hundreds of millions of dollars, euros, yen, or whatever other fiat currency? – You – the tax payer. So, you, the tax payer have something to say about how your money is spent. Don’t you think? Therefore, we the people have to stop this arrogant nonsense – that leads to less than zero, or worse, but costs hundreds of millions that could be spent on education and health services and other public services, including taking care of refugees – in the G7 countries, or alternatively in countries to be rebuilt after the destruction by wars for greed and hegemony by the very G7. So far – and every time more – the money spent on G7 and similar events, is like negative interest – destructive. You the citizen and tax-payer, spend money for something that has a negative return. It is as nefarious as if you deposit your savings in a bank and the bank, instead of giving you an interest on your savings, charges you interest for keeping your money, then lends it to, say, a corporation, but the corporation has to pay back less than it borrowed. In other words, you the ‘small saver’ subsidize the big corporation, or anybody who can afford and is considered ‘eligible’ and solvent enough by the bank to borrow money. – It’s a new form of transferring resources from the bottom to the top. The money spent on the G7 – or other comparable events – is similar. The event rulers take your money (taxes) and transfer it upstairs, where you will never see it again. Not only do you get nothing for it, but it costs you more, as the G7 foment wars and conflicts which kill millions, annihilate entire countries’ infrastructure, housing, schools, health facilities and generate an influx of refugees, for all of which you pay again. Let’s see – a year of primary education, say in Africa, costs about US$ 400 / per student, and about US$ 650 for high school education (2017). Providing decent health care, preventive and curative, per person in Bangladesh amounts to about US$ 650 per year. Assuming the money spent on the G7 Biarritz summit was about 250 to 300 million, you could provide education for a year to about 550,00 students in, say, Kenya, or provide a year of decent health care to about 430,000 Bangladeshi. – Or – the G7 funds could build drinking water and sanitation facilities for about 2.5 million people in developing countries. These figures may have a margin of error of plus or minus 20%. But you get the picture. Or closer to home – how many refugees could xenophobic Europe, especially France and Italy, take care of – refugees driven from their countries, precisely for wars started and sustained by the G7s, to line their weapons industries with huge profits, to dominate the world’s natural resources and eventually put all the people under one hegemonic, globalized roof – one culture, one currency, and only one kind of thinking and ideology allowed – their final goal. Well, these refugees streaming to Europe, children without parents, divided families, sick people, people dying in the ditches, on the sides of roads in self-built camps, camps exposed to the climate elements, camps that are eventually erased by bulldozers – these human beings – put into misery by the very G7 – why not use the money spent on such nefarious fora to impress the lot of the well-off populations on either side of the Atlantic, instead on a little humanitarian act – act of consciousness, what’s left of it – taking care of the trans-Mediterranean refugees? Mr. Macron, you are besieged by the Yellow Vests, who will not go away – what do you think canceling the event and instead pledging the funds for humanitarian shelter for refugees, and lobbying with the remaining G6 to do the same – would have done to your Presidency, to your ever-sinking popularity? – Maybe some uplifting? – You could badly need it. But the image – that’s what it is, the image of grandeur, rubbing elbows with the so-called “leaders” of the world, is of all-overarching importance. Isn’t it? – Never mind the unbearable suffering of many of the people you claim to democratically represent.

The ‘Lazarus Group,’ the armed robbers of the Internet
Matt Pearce, Los Angeles Times, May 18, 2017
On Feb. 4, 2016, as employees left work to enjoy their weekends, the central bank of Bangladesh began firing off dozens of transfer orders to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, asking to remove money from its accounts--almost $1 billion.
It was a heist. The robbers hadn’t walked in with guns or tunneled into a vault to get the money. They’d hijacked the bank’s computer systems to access an international financial network, SWIFT, which shunts around billions of dollars a day. The invisible thieves made off with $81 million before officials halted the geyser of cash.
The attack’s audacity, and the weaknesses it exposed, stunned bankers and financial regulators. Months later, cybersecurity researchers concluded that it was yet another notch in the belt of one of the most destructive hacker collectives on the Internet, the “Lazarus Group,” previously accused of being behind the devastating 2014 Sony Pictures Entertainment hack and other attacks--and working for North Korea.
Now, the Lazarus Group has been tentatively linked to another audacious attack for cash, raising the question of whether North Korea has started sticking up Internet users while carrying out its very public standoff with the United States.
Hundreds of thousands of computers have been hijacked in the last week by a virus called “WannaCry,” which freezes files on computers and demands a ransom for their release. It’s called ransomware, and it’s a new spin on old-fashioned stickups: Pay up with bitcoin, the digital currency, or lose the files forever.
WannaCry spread to at least 150 nations over the weekend, including the U.S., shutting down hospitals in Britain and hijacking terminal screens at train stations in Germany, probably causing billions of dollars in damage. The virus was initially notable because it was an adaptation of a cyber tool to hack Windows that had been developed by, and then stolen from, the U.S. National Security Agency.
But as analysts and investigators began picking apart WannaCry for forensic clues--the digital equivalent of dusting for prints--a cybersecurity researcher at Google named Neel Mehta found something in an older version of the virus. It was just a few lines of code, but it has appeared only in one other known place: hacking tools created by the Lazarus Group. Word spread rapidly among researchers.
The connection to the Lazarus Group so far is only tentative, researchers caution, suggesting that it’s possible the code was inserted as a “false flag” to throw off investigators. Officials in Europe and the U.S., still in the beginning stages of their investigations, have not named the Lazarus Group or North Korea as a suspect.
But “with a group like Lazarus, where we have a long history,” said Eric Chien, a technical director at the Mountain View, Calif.-based Internet security firm Symantec, “I would suspect that within a couple of weeks we should be able to rule them in or rule them out.”
The hacker group was identified and given a name in a collaborative investigation published in February 2016 called “Operation Blockbuster,” which was undertaken by several cybersecurity companies seeking to examine the perpetrators of the 2014 Sony hack.
Within the world of cybercrime, the Sony attack was highly unusual. The hackers struck as the studio was about to release “The Interview,” a Seth Rogen and James Franco comedy whose plot centers on a plan to assassinate North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong Un.
Hackers calling themselves “Guardians of Peace” launched a multi-pronged assault on Sony, destroying company files, demanding ransom, publishing embarrassing emails and salary information online, and leaking unreleased films. The U.S. government blamed North Korea, and the Guardians of Peace disappeared.
Later, the “Operation Blockbuster” coalition began to examine data from the attack published by the U.S. government. What it found surprised the coalition: The Sony hack was far from being a one-off attack.
“We saw things dating back years and years and years,” said Peter LaMontagne, the former chief executive of Novetta, the American firm that led the coalition.
Just as scientists examining DNA look for a creature’s ancestors, the researchers linked code and processes used by the Sony hackers to a string of earlier attacks.
A 2009 distributed denial-of-service attack on American and South Korean websites. A 2011 attack that tried to shut down South Korean network broadcast companies and banks. A 2012 attack on a right-wing South Korean newspaper. The attackers seemed to be well resourced, clever and dogged, coming back again and again.
That’s how researchers came up with “Lazarus Group,” an allusion to the biblical figure who rises from the dead.
“We came up with that name because we kept seeing unique chunks of code appearing/reappearing in new malware strains,” former Novetta technical director Andre Ludwig wrote in an email. He called it “one of the driving factors that enabled us to identify so many families of malware and make hard technical links between them all.”
The backwaters of the Internet are filled with agitators, spies and fraudsters. The most high-profile attacks of the last year have apparently involved Russia, which was accused of hacking Democrats and publishing their emails to sway the presidential election toward Donald Trump.
But the Lazarus hackers have stood out not for doing one thing, but for doing everything.
“We tend to see cyber groups falling into categories and staying in their lanes,” LaMontagne said. “You have hacktivists who have sort of a political agenda, and everything they do is geared to messaging. You have folks that are very focused on making money…. Then, thirdly, we have pure foreign intelligence cyber espionage.”
With the Sony hack, for example, LaMontagne said, Lazarus was “delving into all three.” And the group’s ambition seems unbounded.
“The scale of Lazarus operations is shocking,” the Russia-based cybersecurity firm Kaspersky Lab said in a report on the Lazarus Group’s activities, likening its production to “a factory of malware.” “All this level of sophistication is something that is not generally found in the cybercriminal world. It’s something that requires strict organization and control at all stages of the operation.”
After the Novetta report came out in early 2016, the hackers remained busy and trackable.
“Lazarus Group has been active constantly,” said Chien of Symantec. “We constantly see them, doing little things here and there, but you only hear in the news the big event that happens.”
Industry researchers later linked Lazarus hackers to the 2016 Bangladesh bank heist, which took place before the release of the report, and a financial system attack in Poland in 2017. Top U.S. security officials have dropped hints that they think North Korea might be behind the financial attacks in addition to the Sony hack, citing private-sector research work.
“If that attribution is true … that means a nation-state is robbing banks,” NSA Deputy Director Richard Ledgett said during an Aspen Institute panel in March. “That’s a big deal in my opinion.”
“Do you believe there are nation-states now robbing banks?” a moderator asked Ledgett.
“I do,” Ledgett replied.
The WannaCry ransomware would be an unusual development, should North Korea end up being implicated--an instance of a nation trying to steal money from foreign users, both governmental and private.
Yet even though WannaCry is designed to steal money, it’s doing a poor job of it, raising less than $80,000 worth of bitcoin from a tiny percentage of the virus’ hundreds of thousands of victims. The payments were arranged to go to easily trackable accounts. Experts initially thought it was the work of amateurs.
“This piece of ransomware has a lot of bugs in it, a lot of weird things that other ransomware doesn’t have in it,” Chien said. “There’s actually no way [for the hackers] to determine who paid and who didn’t pay,” meaning that the chances of getting your files unlocked after paying a ransom “is very, very low.”
Others have speculated that, if WannaCry is the work of North Korea, maybe the attackers just wanted to test out its disruptive capabilities for future political attacks--a motive that would not be outside the realm of possibility for the Lazarus Group.
“There’s definitely no ceiling on their ambition,” Chien said. “They may come up with an idea and say, ‘Let’s go do it.’”

Jeremy Corbyn speech ahead of the UN International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
Jeremy Corbyn MP, Leader of the Labour Party speaking in Birmingham today, ahead of the UN International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on Wednesday 22nd March, said:
*** CHECK AGAINST DELIVERY***
I would like to start by thanking Race On The Agenda and the Runnymede Trust for hosting this event today.
And for all the work they do to highlight the issues that impact the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Communities in Britain.
Birmingham of course has a long race relations history.
It was in Birmingham almost 50 years ago, that the Conservative MP for Wolverhampton, Enoch Powell gave his notorious ‘Rivers of Blood’ speech. I remember it like it was yesterday as I was living in Jamaica at the time.  The outrage on the streets was palpable.
An evil appeal to racial hatred, made just a week before the Labour government's Race Relations Bill 1968, the first legislation in the country to prohibit racial discrimination.
And some of you will remember that it was in 1972, Stuart Hall, a Jamaican-born cultural theorist and political activist became the director of the Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies at Birmingham University. I learned a lot from Stuart.
His writing on race, and identity, and the links between racial prejudice and the media in the 1970s, was certainly ground-breaking.
And of course, Birmingham's Handsworth, now a vibrant multi-ethnic commercial area, was rocked by unrest three decades ago following years of social injustice, poverty and racial inequality.
This coming Wednesday, the United Nations marks the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
So it’s particularly fitting for me to be here today to set our Labour’s vision on race equality and economic justice for Black, Asian and Minority Communities.
Labour is a party built on the values of social justice, equality, internationalism and human rights. That is why I have devoted my life to it.
Theresa May will tell you she wants a society that works for everyone. But friends, I and many others in the Labour party haven’t just talked the talk; we have walked the walk as well.
I have stood side by side with your communities, to campaign against Apartheid in South Africa, against increasing Islamophobia in this county against Racism and against anti-Semitism.
And under my leadership the Labour party will deliver a credible plan to break the racial injustices in our economy and social institutions.
Now more than ever, we need to celebrate the profound and enriching transformation that the diversity of people in this country, with all the different experiences, talents and contributions has brought.
And we are privileged to have this reflected in the mass membership of the Labour party, now the biggest political party in Western Europe.
In my constituency of Islington North, we are all made better by the dynamism of cultures and languages from Ghana, Somaliland, the Kurdish region, Ireland and many more.
Here in Birmingham, one of the most diverse cities in Europe, people have come to Britain from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
Birmingham is home to an elaborate variety of ethnic and religious communities:
Kashmiri Pakistanis in Sparkbrook. Bengali Muslims in Perry Barr. Hindus in Sutton Coldfield.
Britain wouldn't be the place it is today, people living and working together side by side, without the contribution of Black and Asian communities.
Following the Windrush Generation of 1948, it was the help of African- Caribbean communities that kept the nation moving.  And of course many who came before then.
Asian people in the industrial cities like Leicester and Bradford were recruited to work the night shift when Britain retooled its textile industry after the Second World War.
Today, Britain has the world’s sixth-biggest economy – no mean feat for a small island nation you might think...
That’s partly about inventiveness and organisation, and it’s also the legacy of immigration and an exploitative relationship with poorer nations as an imperial power. The echoing voices of Empire two point zero from this government are rightly making BME people feel very unsettled.
Labour rejects a post-Brexit Britain based on trade deals that profit from the exploitation of the world’s fragile economies.
We remember the great British heroine, the late Mary Seacole, originally born in Jamaica, who set up the “British Hotel” during the Crimean War, providing care for wounded servicemen on the battlefield.
Over 150 years later, and without the contribution of your communities, our health service would struggle to survive.
The NHS was established the same year as Windrush docked. It's our most cherished national institution.
NHS England figures in 2015 show that nearly one in five of all staff were from ethnic minority backgrounds, with over two in five NHS doctors from a non-white group.
And the Tories are squeezing the NHS dry, as they hand over chunks of it to their friends in the private sector, just as they refuse entry to desperate refugees, and allow the migrants, who keep the health service going, to be demonised.
Your communities also play an important role in our civil service, local government and voluntary sector.
Today Black and Asian owned businesses are an important and growing feature of our economy and society.
These businesses are important not just because of their financial contribution; they have also helped transform particular sectors of the economy and in the regeneration of inner-city areas like Birmingham.
In the wake of the Brexit decision, it is vitally important, that we value, celebrate and protect our diverse society.
And that includes the 3 million EU nationals who live and work here, and who have made lives, have families, friends and colleagues here and so are connected to many millions more of us.
Equality is the central bedrock of Labour’s values, and that message must be heard loud and clear, particularly in the current political climate.
However, the challenges remain stark.
It’s indefensible that in Britain today, if you’re Black or Asian you are more likely to be living in poverty than if you’re white.
And that young black men have experienced the worst long-term employment and economic outcomes in generations.
Or the fact that women of Bangladeshi and Pakistani origin are less than half as likely to be employed compared with rates for other women.
How can it be just or fair that black people with degrees earn 23% less on average than their white peers?
And despite significant equality legislation brought in by Labour governments, racial inequality is a routine feature in the British economy.
Why?  The political choices of this Tory government are a good place to begin.
Time and time again Theresa May patronises the electorate with empty rhetoric of “building an economy that works for everyone”.
After 7 years in government, the political machine she herself dubbed “the nasty party” continues to pursue an economic agenda that serves the elite at the expense of the majority of the people, including Black and Asian communities in particular.
Let’s just look at the budget her chancellor delivered last week. The biggest losers of this government’s tax and benefit policy are Black and Asian women.
Analysis from the Runnymede Trust and the Women’s Budget Group shows:
Asian women in the poorest third of households will be £2,247 worse off by 2020, facing almost twice the loss faced by white men in the poorest third of households.
And Black and Asian lone mothers stand to lose about 15% and 17% respectively of their net income due to punitive benefit changes.
The Race Equality Foundation showed in 2013 that overcrowding is most commonly experienced by Black African and Bangladeshi groups (with just over a third of households living in overcrowded accommodation).
And sadly, you are more likely to be homeless in Birmingham if you are Black or from an ethnic minority than if you are white.
The government’s own data reveals that a shocking 15 in every 1,000 BME households in Birmingham were homeless in 2015-16, the equivalent figure for white households is bad enough at four per 1,000.
Britain’s housing crisis is at its worst for 20 years and the government are not doing enough to address this problem.  The housing minister has ruled out raising the housing revenue account which enables councils to borrow money to build.  Councils cannot meet local needs.
Far from building an economy for everyone and helping the ‘just about managing’, this government is intent on the transfer of cash from the purses of poorer Black and Asian women to the wallets of the richest men.
There are also huge health inequalities in this country, particularly when it comes to mental health and social care.
Black British women are four times more likely to be detained under the mental health act than White British women.
Older people from Black and minority ethnic groups are often under represented users of health and social care services, where they do, often receive poorer treatment.
So how can Theresa May justify huge cuts to social care, but a special deal for Surrey?
The people of Birmingham are worth no less and deserve better!
The Tories talk a lot about the need for integration. Let them start by integrating our communities - black and white - into the economy, into secure and well-paid jobs, into the education system, into the health care system, onto a viable transport system.
They say they want more people to speak English and then cut the funding for English courses.
They say they want communities to integrate but then allow schools to opt out and slash the kind of youth services and education funding that would make that possible.
Britain has come a long way. But the journey was not an act of our own genius.
People fought for it … Black and white and Asian, side by side, to build the kind of country that could celebrate our racial differences rather than be wary of them.
But we have a long way to go. Black and Asian people are still more likely to be excluded, stopped, searched, arrested, charged and get longer sentences.  Still less likely to go to university, get to the boardroom, the Houses of Commons.
We shouldn't be content with tolerance. You tolerate things you don't like.
We can do better than that. We DO do better than that.
People are right to be anxious. These are volatile times and people feel insecure in their work, about their children's future, about this country's future, they look for someone to blame.
Syrian refugees did not trade in credit default swaps and crash the economy.
East European builders and technicians did not slash funding for children’s centres and libraries.
Since BME communities can be disproportionately found in poor areas, and are more likely to be less well-off, everything we can do to support those families who are struggling to get by, will disproportionately support them.
And everything that is done to attack the living standards of families who are struggling to get by, will disproportionately make things worse.
Enoch Powell was wrong. There have not been rivers of blood. We have one of the highest rates of mixed-race marriage in the western world.
What we need is leadership that does not stoop to preying on those anxieties, blaming people who look differently, talk a different language or dress differently, for the mess that we're in.
Our Labour party has a proud record on race and equality.
Every progressive piece of equality legislation has been delivered by a Labour government:
The Race Relations Act The Human Rights The Equality Act
But these were not gifts from the liberal well-intentioned. They were won by struggle from well organised campaigns from the Black and Asian community in alliance with the wider labour and progressive movement.
The late 1980s saw a concerted push by members of Vauxhall Labour Party, in alliance with other members across the country, to establish Black Sections in the Labour Party.
Black Sections would become self-organised, autonomous groupings within the Labour Party, with the aim of increasing black and minority ethnic representation in the party but also in elected positions.
At the time they were opposed by many Labour Party members are being “divisive” or “segregationist”.
Today self organisation is much more accepted across the Labour movement.
But these important milestones won by your communities are now vulnerable.
Without a mandate, but with a motive, Theresa May seeks a dilution of rights and protections of people in this country.
Threatening to abolish the Human Rights Act.
Cutting to the bone funding to Equality and Human Rights Commission and all its vital work.
This Prime Minister is happy play to the gallery of her backbenchers and media cheerleaders who think your rights are a bureaucratic burden.
While serving as a distraction from the economic failure, the inequality and injustice that six years of Conservative government has delivered to our country and to our Black and Asian communities in particular.
This has serious consequences. Look at hate crimes against ethnic and religious minorities.
We see an alarming rises in racism and anti-Semitism, we are implacably opposed to racism and anti-Semitism in any form.
The party has carried out important work in this regard, both in terms of our policies to advance equality and combat hate crime, and in terms of taking forward the recommendations of the Chakrabarti Inquiry into racism and anti-Semitism.
Just last week, a report from Equality and Human Rights Commission to MPs expressed concern that the start of formally leaving the EU could cause a backlash, similar to the period of increased hate crime that followed the EU referendum.
Any move to tackle such heinous crimes head-on would be laudable, if it didn't come from a government which has actively stoked the fires of frenzied scaremongering as Europe faces its biggest refugee crisis since the Second World War.
"Go home or face arrest" vans, razor wire in Calais and warnings of swarms and migrants flooding our shores throws light on a party much more content to steal the clothes of far-right forces than attempt in any meaningful way to tackle racial and religious prejudice.
The Government strategy for Muslim integration has been through the lens of counter-extremism.
It has confused race, religion and immigration, with alarming consequences.
It woefully ignores the fact that your communities bear the brunt of its own economic choices that fund tax breaks for the richest in our society.
There is a long line of critical reports of the Government’s failing Prevent strategy.
The parliamentary joint committee on human rights has called for a review, arguing that it has the potential to drive a wedge between the authorities and whole communities.
None of these organisations or bodies have any sympathies with terrorism or act as apologists for it.
Anti-terrorism is a serious issue and effective anti-terrorism is always intelligence and community-led.
This must be fully supported and resourced. Prevent is the opposite of intelligence-led policy.
It is time for a major review of the strategy and a fundamental rethink by Government.
The rise of so called populist parties on the right in Europe reinforces how important it is for us to implement policy – both in the UK and internationally - which is inclusive and based on human rights and justice.
We must not allow people’s freedoms to be curbed and must at all times promote religious acceptance.
In this country we have a tradition of acceptance and I am sure many of us will want to maintain that tradition – including opposing any discriminatory bans of religious symbols, whether these be crucifixes, turbans, kippahs or niqabs or any other form of dress.
Friends you know the progress that has been made, but you know too problems that endure, you live these challenges. And you know too the forces that want to turn back the clock.
It is no coincidence that these and the economic injustice faced by your communities have worsened since 2010, when the Tory led coalition government began dismantling social provision.
The truth is austerity has hit ethnic-minority groups the hardest.
When left to its own devices what is called the free market has shown again and again that its impact is racial discrimination.
The loss of more than a million public sector jobs, either disappearing completely or outsourced to the private sector, has shattered one of the few footholds for ethnic minority young people to gain a real stake in society.
I am proud that Labour has the highest number of Black and Asian MPs of any other political party.  This year we celebrate the 30 year anniversary of the historic election to the House of Commons of four black members of parliament - Diane Abbott, Paul Boateng, Bernie Grant and Keith Vaz.
Labour will remain the party for aspiring councillors and members of parliament from Black and Asian communities.
As leader, it has been an honour to appoint Labour’s most ethnically diverse Shadow Cabinet, including the first Black woman, Shadow Home Secretary - Diane Abbott.
Labour is proud to have the support of many Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities.
I will not take this for granted. I don’t want you to just vote Labour.
I want you to organise, campaign and lead for Labour in your communities and within the party. And to drive us to do more.
But we together must go further.
And address the systematic economic disadvantage and institutional barriers your communities, the forgotten communities face.
If we are to build an economy that delivers for black and Asian people, not the privileged few off the back of you.
The Labour Party is passionately committed to equality and human rights. It has been at the forefront of championing changes in legislation and policy across the UK to combat discrimination.
That is why under my leadership, a Labour government will commit to eliminate racial inequality in our economy.
Work is now less secure and pays less, leaving Black and Asian employees, in increasingly precarious situations.
Labour has committed to introducing a real living wage, of at least £10 an hour by 2020 that will do most to boost the incomes of Black and Asian women.
We will work with businesses, stakeholders, and trade unions to ensure resources are available to investigate and deal with racial inequality in relation to pay, promotion and recruitment.
This is not red tape. It should not burdensome to ensure transparency in equality and diversity policy, or for tenders to demonstrate a zero-tolerance approach to racism.
At the same time as overseeing the proliferation of zero-hours contracts.
The Conservative government has pursued an agenda of removing employee protections, denying access to justice and fairness at work.
One example was introducing a regime of Employment Tribunal Fees in 2013, a financial barrier to challenging employers over equal pay, race and gender discrimination, putting a price on justice
Since the introduction of these charges, cases of race discrimination have fallen by 50%.
The fees brought in just £8.5 million last year. The low level of income from fees shows this was a purely political decision, not an economic necessity.
Labour’s policy is clear: we will abolish these punitive fees, giving employees seeking to challenge racism and discrimination in the workplace back access to the justice system.
A Labour government in a post Brexit Britain will safeguard the rights of all citizens by incorporating the International Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Racial Discrimination into British law.
Just up the road in Stoke last month Labour defeated an attempt by UKIP to divide that community – to whip up hatred and division.
Ukip stood their leader as a candidate, they poured resources into the campaign – but they were emphatically rejected.
The far right and this government seek to divide our communities, the communities of working people.
But we have far more in common than the fake anti-establishment elitists want us to think.
Labour will unite our communities around economic and social justice for working people.
We will create a society where our origins don’t determine our destinies.
A Labour government will break the rigged economy.
End austerity.
And call time on the economic disadvantage faced by black and Asian communities in Britain.
Labour will deliver change.
Yesterday, the world lost Sir Derek Alton Walcott, the Saint Lucian poet and playwright whose intricately metaphorical poetry captured the physical beauty of the Caribbean, the harsh legacy of colonialism and the complexities of living  and writing in two cultural worlds won  him a Nobel Prize in Literature.
I end with a sentence from his poem about being kind to yourself:
You will love again the stranger who was yourself. Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart to itself, to the stranger who has loved you
Thank you.

Benefits of Using Presto Power Stacker Models in Work Environments
A presto power stacker can be a great way to add the extra storage space you need for tools and equipment that you use daily. They work by loading the equipment onto a forklift which then moves it into the truck for storage while your equipment remains safe and secure on the truck bed. By using a stroller and a truck for home care, a single parent or two caregivers can watch over their patient's medical equipment. For this reason, there are many models in the Presto Power Stacker family which allow a caregiver to transfer their patients' equipment between locations without worrying about the safety of the items. With technology advancing at such a fast pace, many new versions of this versatile system can also double as a crutcher.
A crutch lift utilizes the same platform as the presto power stacker, but crutches are installed in place of lifting legs. The crutches are securely attached to the platform by means of a cable, and the lift forks over to raise the load. The advantages of this system include a much easier time with lifting, less strain on the back, and safer lifting because of the removal of legs. When choosing a lift for home care, one of the main things to consider is how it will be used. If a single caregiver will be the primary user, then a manual lift may be best, but if multiple patients require transportation from one location to another, a crutch lift would be a more suitable option.
One of the most popular applications for a presto power stacker is heavy loads. Since these devices are equipped with hydraulics, they are able to lift extremely heavy loads with minimal effort from the user. This is very important when caring for very heavy adult patients or if you need to move heavy loads from one part of your facility to another. These devices are also excellent for moving medium-sized adult patient loads and if a homeowner would like to have a device that enables them to move their patients from one location to another, then a crutch stacker would be perfect.
There are several different types of lift stackers available on the market and each is designed to handle a particular type of material handling needs. Agamatrix and Presto models are ideal for light duty and mobile material handling needs, while the heavy duty mobile agamatrix model is a more stable design that is great for use in material handling applications like welding, automotive repair and automotive detailing. The crutch stackers and the stand stickers are designed to move a patient's weight, so one can easily move their patient from one work area to another while resting at their feet.
One benefit that the Presto Power Stacker research enjoys is the fact that it has an adjustable lifting deck that makes it easy to modify according to the type of job that you will be doing. This flexible deck is also very easy to assemble, making this unit very convenient to use when lifting heavier loads. In addition to the customizable lifting deck, the cab lift system that comes with the agamatrix and presto power stacker models is also very simple to operate. The two models of this lifting system have separate cab sections that are designed to handle different lifting loads, so they can also carry out tasks other than lifting heavy weights.
When it comes to lifting heavy loads, it is important that you find a machine that offers reliable operation. Choosing the right power supply for your machine and your work environment is essential to reducing injuries and saving money. The electric chain hoists for Presto are designed to offer the utmost in safety as well as efficiency in work environments. They have excellent power outputs and automatic load lifting controls, making them a solid investment for any company looking to reduce their costs and improve their operations. When using these machines, it is important that you consider the benefits that come with these powerful machines as you can never go wrong with choosing one of the Presto Power Stacker models.
