I wanted to redraw this bc I really liked how the first one looked. The new one is a WIP so far but I plan on colouring and posting the final one ^^

I finished Ergo Proxy last night. However messy and disjointed the ending and the narrative was? I thought it resolved the story pretty well in the characters. The world collapses around the forced design of a dying civilization only to coalesce around a ragtag group of heroes and bandits. The open ended nature of that continues on as ambiguously as it starts but doesn't really since the series never got renewed is at least satisfying. You don't really care that the world is doomed to fail. You just know that real love helps things move forward regardless of the outcome or the shiftiness of the situation. It was foreshadowed when they were running out of food in the boat. When they make it back to Romdo, they realize it was all doomed to fail anyway. What's the use of continuing especially when you aren't the original article. Free will and all that. I think some of the jankiness of the lore is still more appealing. That Monad is somehow ascending to space in project boomerang. That the weird people in the caves reproducing and dying from the atmosphere are the indigenous life. I guess the lore specifically states it's because of Methane Hydrate poisoning to solve an energy crisis. So the people trapped in the caves adapted and evolved. The rest of humanity changed themselves to survive the atmosphere via cloning. I don't think any of those questions were meant to get answered in one season. And yet clarifying any of it might cheapen the potential of the relationships that drive the show. Pino never does get to see her father again. But then again Pino's father wasn't really her father. Kristeva spent more time with Raul than his actual wife. You've got to wonder if just like R-el the baby was born through artificial means. So there was no real relationship there at all. The fact that Pino and Kristeva end up together is more poetic than half the show. But really it's about a failed civilization collapsing in real time and the people who choose free will to move ahead for the sake of humanity, love and freedom. It kind of exists as an ambiguous tone poem instead of a defining multisession arc of spiraling narratives and characters. Not that I don't like Hunter X Hunter. It's just 23 episodes is the sweet spot for walking away from a world knowing that it will be okay.

GENERAL APPEARANCE 

(Human aspect) Monad takes on the aspect of a true ruler, formidable despite the prettiness of youth. Her expression is fixed to a sovereign frown, her blue eyes piercing, and always looking beyond whoever deems themselves worthy enough to approach her. The rich, black hue of her hair contrasts sharply with her white robes. (Proxy aspect) Her appearance takes on the aspect of a grayed corpse, white hair worn wild atop her head, yellow eyes piercing through the shadows. Monad stands even taller in this form, her muscles bulged and exaggerated as an incredible font of power courses through her limbs. 

PERSONALITY

Detatched, cold and apathetic, Monad is perfect in her position as the Mosk dome's proxy. Her eyes are fixed only on the goal, the fated return of her creators, and the reawakening of all life on Earth. Yet underneath the surface of her cooled soil lies an uncomfortable warmth and a desire for ultimate control. These desires are made manifest as she becomes infatuated with Ergo, parts of her becoming undone as she realizes the gravity of her newfound emotions. Still, she rules over her dome more than she guides, her grasp never wavering even as she falls deeper into the void.

BIO

Monad shares the origin of all proxies. Just as humans take to the stars and abandon an inhospitable planet Earth, the proxies were created as provisional guardians until their fated return. Practically the gods of all synthetic humans, they built their domes as instructed and created whole generations of clones to help the rehabilitation of the planet. However, differences among the proxies breeds strife throughout the domed provinces. One sour meeting, one conversation gone awry, could mean all out war and the end of their “raison d’etre”. Monad, a monolith in her own right and obsessive for control, clings desperately to the vision of her creators and will do anything in her power to establish order.

It's been awhile since I've posted here, eh? Apologies I've fallen into other interests but Ergo Proxy still holds a special place in my heart, just not my main focus. Although, I recently rewatched it for the n-th time lol I hope you don't mind me sharing a Monad doodle I did while watching.
