Everything you once saw, the brightest of grass and the crops ripe and perfect, and the animals in the barns chirping of happiness— it was all gone. once a happy place you roamed in the summer as a kid was now a abandoned filthy place, old bards with holes and damaged walls. Nothing was what it used to be, the grass was as tall as small trees and it was going to take a lot of lovin.

But if your granddad taught you one thing is that; working for a better future would make everything you did it worth it.

And that’s exactly why you are here, to make your future. Everything in your life was about becoming a farmer, like your grandfather. and like him, you believed hybrids deserved to be in a safe and open land to roam, not such in some metal factory and enclosed to live their life.

“Come join the number one hybrid farm in Japan, The League.” the tv rung in your ears back at the college room, the place had been taking over everything and running all the local and good places out. at one point the only place you probably could work at was The League, since they seemed to be everywhere. “New locations, New Areas, And New Pay. Call the number on your screen for more information.” you had heard the commercial so many times you rolled your eyes everytime.

Never did you believe they would come out here, and be the competition.

Honestly, the first day your body was drained easily from all the work. The labor wasn’t exactly what you were expecting to start off with, moving the rooks and weeding. But you had supplies to start off with thankfully, the money he left you was so much, and ready for a new purpose. But the only thing that was helping you in all of this, your holy grail was a local store owner. Arthur, who happened to be your grandfathers best friend.

slapping the metal truck with the gloved hand, the old man smiled and stepped down from the back of the moving truck. you whipped off the sweat from your skin and catch your breath as the unpacked heavy boxes placed besides you and man.

“The old man used to buy twice as much as this and unload it all him, then complain when his back hurt afterwards. Lucky, he had me to talk some since into him.” the white haired man spoke breathlessly. you didn’t want him to have to help, seeing his age but he was in better shape then you by the looks of things. “Old bat was stubborn, you got that in you kid?”

taking a deep breath you arose from the bend down position you were in and look at the man, smiling a bit you commented back. “Used to give granddad a run for his money, I think I have it in me.” you were earned with a deep chuckle and a small one from yourself. starting back up again you closed the doors and gave the man who drove the truck the okay and he drove away.

the next day was worse then the first, your body was sore and tired, you wore sunscreen all over your body to protect you from the heat damage and the illnesses you could catch. unpacking all the equipment, getting them put together, and make sure the starter crops are taken care of. you took many breaks. and Arthur was the greatest help you could ask for.

you heard the story of how he met your granddad many times before, but you didn’t mind hearing it from his side. Arthur had moved from the United States to start his business with his family, and your grandfather was just started out in town. they were younger and bonded right away, and there for marriages, children and grandchildren. knowing he wasn’t as alone when you left was comforting in a away but you knew the full story. just before your tenth birthday you were moved away from the small town with your parents and left the farm behind.

“He talked about you every day.” The words perked up your ears. You looked at Arthur as he continued to work on a huge fan.

“Everything that happened in your life, he would tell me. What happened at middle school sport events, to dances and even show pictures of the dresses you wore. And man, when you went to college for Hybrid Education he was bursting with energy again.” It’s been a long time since he was able to leave the cabin. You knew that, but knowing still punched you in the guts.

“Was he proud?” asking was a waste of time.

“Proud as hell, there should be no doubt about it. His pride and joy was you, more then anything he did here, and now you have a legacy to continue.” smiling you continue to work to hold yourself from the weight building up in your chest. you missed him so much.

Each day there was something new to fix and call in, you knew granddad was rich from the bank account he left you. but boy, it sure was a lot of money. and now, you finally had a starting point. you had scheduled a barn repair on the electrical and building. the crops were set up along with the sprinklers and scare crows, even cleaned out the well…but not without getting algae all over you.

Smalltowns in the country side where the best, everyone in the community was helpful towards one other. And since The League had a location down the road, the people really came together. Businesses were losing in hybrid projects and animals, but the crops were the same. But this met more hybrids lost there homes, and had to be relocated elsewhere else or to The League…You hated it.

A big wooden sign at one of the joint shop centers made you smile and turn into the lot. today was the weekly event, selling of many things of local produces. you remember coming here as a kid and always getting blueberry jam from the market lady. and just like then, it was crowded. and with a lot of stalls and moving trucks. Arthur had told you they still had them and that you should check it out. of course you wouldn’t miss this for anything.

you shut the truck door and fixed your clothes before started the walk around. everyone was selling amazing things at their booths. the first table you saw was one cover in homemade soap bars and honey products. a sweet older couple ran that shop. some stalls were for hybrids for sale but you didn’t have room for them, at least until the barns are rebuilt. but milk, crops and seeds where your thing anyway to look at.

“how much for this?” the only person behind the table was a young girl who looked angry and ready to chew off your head, it was laughable. she was going to be hard to haggle, but a amazing work ethic. “I don’t know you, so twenty bucks.” your eyes widen and look down at the honey in your hand. it was a very small jar…and not worth it, I mean for the bigger bottles sure.

“Hmm, how about ten?” the small girl glared at your words and huffed. she shook her head in annoyance and pointed to the tag, “you trying to get out of paying hard working people lady? This is the best honey you’ll find in the whole country! Haggling is only for people I know,” her finger pointed at you and you back up a little at her shouting voice. “And you ain’t it!”

signing you pull out a twenty and handed it to her, she smiles so kindly you forget about the anger she had. placing it in your cloth bag you continue walking down the path, smiling and looking around. not much you could buy yet, though you did buy from groceries and loaded the up in the bed of the truck.

“well if it ain’t the talk of the town,” a sweet woman’s voice called out loudly. you turn your gaze and see a almost forgotten face, but one that filled you with joy and nostalgia. “Aunty Hoshiko.” You scream and rush over, the older woman comes out form her booth and takes you into her arms. only now did you realize the sweet small of jam and the jar’s decorated like they used to be, but this area was bigger and a extra tent was behind it.

“I couldn’t believe you moved back here after moving to the city, heard you got into a good college.” She smiled from cheek to cheek while pulling away. “Why come back here?” it was flattering how much she thought of you, but you couldn’t have stayed away from this place for much longer.

“Well, grandpa left me the farm and I needed to start my new life. Can’t get much better then a already laid for land, and with great soil.” she hummed but her eyes dropped a little and her smile became different. “I’m so sorry, he was a good man. you tell me if you need any help okay? Your granddad helped us a lot, so many people in town will be willing to do help too.”

“I’ll keep that in mind,” you smile and take a peek at the table, “mind if I look?” she is excited to show you all the new flavors and jars she has, letting you smell each one. she even offers you a discount for family.

you had a few jams picked out but you keep looking at everything, knowing you’ll come home with more. then there was a sign and paperwork around on a tables end.“Hybrid Rescues” is what you read and your hands reached for it immediately. seeing your interested, Hoshiko started to talk.

“The League has been running out businesses, hybrids are either purchased or…end up alone and abandoned. My friend runs a rescue company, we help her out here trying to give some of them a home.” you clinch the paper in your hand and want both more then to go punch the owners of the company. No hybrid deserves to be left alone.

“I usually have a few here with me, but today only one is for sale. He’s very special. And a house animal, or helper if you will since I know you don’t have much room for more yet.” the next step was to always get hybrids, but you weren’t sure if today was the best idea today…

“Oh!” that wasn’t your choice since she pulled your arm and lend you into the tent where only one hybrids sat. you struggled to look away from the hybrid laying in the floor.

He was huge. he looked peaceful tho, curled up on a bed and resting peacefully. he had long and pointed ears, a middle tail that curled. “he’s a special breed, no idea why they didn’t keep him since he must have cost a fortune.” there was a small scar on his arm and you hated to see, it looked like cattle whip strokes.

“tenya,” she called out quietly to wake the dog. you really didn’t know if you should get a hybrid, but seeing him already you knew you couldn’t say no. his furry ears twitched and his body rolled over ready to see what was happening. he was fast, and he was built. a pure breed for herding and hard labor. “I have someone here who needs a dog to help around the farm.” she patted you on the back and you got shy for some reason.

His tail was sticking up, his eyes glancing over and panicked. he was on high alert. “Hey buddy, my names y/n.” You smile softly. You don’t want to move until he gives you a sign. his nose sniffs into the air for a moment and his body freezes, you both stop for a minute too.

until the thumping of his tail was heard and he jumped up to greet you properly. you are taken aback and he gets excited and starts to shout, you can’t help but to smile. “My names Tenya, I am apart of the Iida breed. I have experience in herding, working and defending territory. I have many skills,” his hands reaches for hers and stuffs it into his nose to get a proper smell.

“Hello to you too,” you giggle. having some help now would be good, and a herding dog would the best thing.

“Tell me iida, are you okay with maybe coming home with me?” if it was only a dog he would for sure be jumping on you from how happy he seems to be.

Iida didn’t want you to leave to get things needed, saying it was his job to be with you now but you need to find food and things before leaving. he whined forever until he saw you again.

you came back to get him…like you said you would. he loved you, loved you so much. the kindest human he’s met.

Riding back to the farm was a journey. he was talking every second about all the things he could do, from each animal, hybrid or not. boy, was so happy to be by your side. and he was asking about you too. why you picked him? what you wanted him to do.

your heart broke once you got back to the cabin.

you held the door open and called for him to come in, but he just stood on the porch looking at you almost guilty. “Hybrids aren’t aloud inside, I must protect you from out here.” he was already looking for a place to set up for the night. it was a miracle you didn’t start crying again.

“Well, whoever told you that was a idiot. Many dog hybrids are aloud inside, and it’s my house so my roles go.” you tap the door again. he was hesitant, and it took about ten minutes to get him inside. and you told him to stay put while you get the things from the car…then told him it was a order to get him to stay.

you placed the things on the floor and smiled, proud of yourself. “Okay, so I got a large mattress for you. We can place it anywhere you want, also got you special food, hybrids approved.” he looked at the mattress for a long minute. Iida couldn’t believe it was his, he hadn’t slept on one of them since he was little, and then at the market earlier. And this one was his, made for his height and weight for him to sleep…inside.

“Your bought this for me?” He asked while poking at the bed, it’s softness amazed him. once he accepted his reality his tail starts to swing like crazy and crawled over to you, and hugged you lovingly.

“I’ll be the best boy I promise. anything you need I will do, anything.” his grip tightened around your waist and pushed his head into your plush stomach. you patted his head and thanked him, and told him he deserved to be loved and cared for.

That night, he placed his bed in front of your bedroom door and stood watch in his bed. to protect you, his master…his.

summary: you don’t typically use your quirk as to not frighten people, but you wind up using it when Mineta is bothering your girl friends.

contains: mineta being a perv, y/n being terrifying yet beautiful, maybe a little rushed at the end sorry

Upon first getting your quirk at age four, you and your parents initially thought they were merely angel wings. By junior high however, you came to realize there was more to it than that, and after a few small incidents that included you inadvertently making a classmate nearly pass out, you opted to keep your power on the down low most of the time. But your quirk still needed to breathe, so to speak, so you let your first pair of wings out.

Once you reached high school and enrolled in UA, you were still hesitant to use your power to its full extent, and not just for the sake of not frightening anyone, but also because you were fairly certain that if you did, Bakugou would see it as a challenge and become bent on one-upping you. And you didn’t have the time for that.

Either way, it actually didn’t take too long for the truth to come out. From day one, your shortest classmate made a pretty solid impression as a little pervert, and it had you on your toes a lot, not just for yourself, but for your friends. You had gotten used to using your wings to create distance between Mineta and the girls, but you were getting real fed up with it real fast.

There were only a handful of scenarios wherein you deemed it necessary to go the whole nine yards, and when you spotted him trying to sneak up on Momo, Ochako, and Mina, you didn’t even think twice as you speed walked towards them, sliding your jacket off of your shoulders and tying it smoothly around your waist.

You put yourself between him and the girls, activating your quirk so quickly that a gust of wind blew through the room, making the girls jump in surprise a bit and causing Mineta to stumble and fall back and several other heads to turn in your direction.

There they saw you hovering a couple feet off the ground, all three sets of wings out and a soft halo of light surrounding your head. You had opened a few extra eyes, all glowing like the sun. But there wasn’t a trace of mercy in your gaze as you stared Mineta down. You almost didn’t hear the soft gasps of your other classmates as they stared at you in awe.

“Be afraid. Be. Very. Afraid.”

It took a moment for Mineta to snap out of his horrified state, before he quickly scrambled to his feet and booked it away from you, stuttering apologies as he scurried off. And with that, you lowered yourself to the ground and sighed, your halo fading and your extra eyes closing back up. Looking over your shoulder, you looked at your girl friends and offered them a tender smile, in complete contrast to the death stare you were wearing just seconds prior.

“Be not afraid.” you said sweetly before Mina gave you a big hug which you returned.

“(L/n), you’re the best!” she exclaimed joyously. “Thank you so much.” Momo said.

“No worries. I’ve been wanting to do that for quite a while now.” you said, mumbling at the last part. Ururaka went on about how she was sure that you would be an awesome hero some day, beloved by girls everywhere.

Midoriya was already flipping through his journal to add on to the entry he made about you and Jirou had a proud smile on her face, glad that someone was able to scare Mineta off like that. Iida was stunned, but honestly amazed by how gracefully you handled the situation, and Kaminari was simultaneously terrified and impressed as he made a mental note to never mess with you or your friends, even if he was one of them.

Kirishima’s look of shock turned into a beaming smile as he went over to compliment your quirk and how strong you were. Bakugou… wasn’t sure what to think. He was impressed, though he probably wouldn’t tell you that to your face, and maybe slightly intimidated by you upon realizing how much you must have been holding back during training and sparring. Aizawa on the other hand, made a mental note to try and explore this side of your quirk in future training.

Fluff headcanons:

In order: Bakugo, Denki, Jiro, Kirishima, Mindoriya, Mina, Momo, Ochaco, Sero, Shoji, Todoroki, Tokoyami, Tsu

Bakugo:

Bakugo would love to torture you with horror movies because it was funny to see your reactions, but mostly because he loved you jumping into his arms at the sight of something scary. He would gently wrap his arm around you while you hid under the blanket, of course while laughing at you.

He is fiercely defensive of you, even if it's hard for him to admit to other people that you both are dating. If he even hears a whisper of slander towards you, he challenges whoever said it even if they are a pro. (Making work studies extremely difficult with him)

You love to steal his shirts and sweatshirts, he claims it's annoying and you need to go to your own closet. But what he doesn’t tell you is how he loves seeing you walk around with it on. Letting everyone know you're his without having to tell them.

Denki:

Denki can be dumb, extremely dumb, but he tries his hardest for you. He would try to cook dinner for you, only for it to end up burnt and inedible. This would put both of you into a giggle fit until you eventually just order pizza.

You and Denki are the worst combo in the dorms because all you both do is prank people or accept dares. You are the other half of his brain but unfortunately, that means you both only have half of one.

Denki and your relationship would feel so natural that you both and everyone else would feel like you have dated for your entire lives.

Every time you left your phone alone with him he would take hundreds of photos on your phone, and then he would charge it for you.

Jiro:

Jiro would obviously write songs for you and playfully show you them. You both would make silly wallpapers for each other's phones. (Think like the lipstick heart pictures). She would brag about you to anyone around willing to listen.

Some nights you both would sit and make bracelets for each other while listening to music and talking.

Jiro would let you do her makeup or draw on her whenever you wanted, she loved looking at her arm and seeing all your doodles.

Kirishima:

Kirishima would show you off to anyone and everyone, when you first got together everyone immediately knew because he couldn’t keep his hands off you. If it was an arm around you or holding your hand, he would constantly be touching you in some way.

You both would play video games against each other for hours, he would let you win just to see you smile.

Every few weeks or so Kirishima’s hair would grow out so you would sit and redye it for him. Eventually, he convinced you to do a streak of red in your hair to match. Now you both have red hair, he loves seeing that streak, reminding him of how much he loves you.

Midoriya:

Midoriya and you would study together constantly, him oblivious to your moves on him. Eventually, you got fed up and just told him and he was shocked and blinked at you for a few seconds before freaking out. Shortly after his freak-out, you both started dating.

You would mostly have study dates and sit next to each other enjoying each other's presence.

When you got bored you would braid his hair and play with it. It would relax him so much he would often fall asleep while you did it.

He would buy you little gifts of things that reminded him of you and leave them with little notes in your room.

Mina:

Mina was your best friend before you started dating, so you two were as close as can be. You both would spend your nights watching trashy shows and making fun of the characters. Or you would play card games together. Mina loves to paint your nails knowing you show them off to everyone.

Whenever she had a show (for dance) you would make a big sign and stand right in front so she could always see you cheering her on.

Some days you both would try to bake something and often it would end up poorly, but you both always had fun. Flour on your faces, giggling on the kitchen counter. You both understood each other more than anyone else.

Momo:

Momo would always bring you tea at night, no matter what you both were doing. She would show up at the library with a thermos if she had to.

You would always find new tea for her to try and gift her a little note with it. She often would pack lunches for you, with cute little animal cutouts, or heart-shaped vegetables.

You both would read books and annotate them for each other and then switch to read the other’s. It would result in a lot of inside jokes and memories.

Ochaco:

Ochaco would draw little doodles in class and pass them to you for you to add to them. She would buy you matching keychains for your backpacks.

You often ended up sharing clothes since you were the same size. She loves to steal your hoodies and sweaters.

Each morning she does your hair for the day, if it's a braid, or straightening it. She loves to play with your hair.

She took up knitting to knit you blankets knowing you love blankets to cuddle up in. It took her a while but eventually, she started making very nice blankets for you both to snuggle in.

Sero:

You and Sero are total goofs around each other, never able to stop laughing at each other.

Each night you would always end up either in his bed or yours, it wasn’t often you slept alone. You would wake up completely wrapped by him.

He would make tiktok edits of you and then show you super excitedly to see your reaction.

He loves when you wear lipstick because he always makes you kiss his cheek so he can walk around with a lipstick mark on his face.

He often would give you his hoodies to wear, encouraging you to wear his clothes.

Shoji:

He would learn how to do your hair for you, whether it's dying it or braiding, he learned it all so he could spend that time with you.

You would love to cuddle with him since he could wrap all of his arms around you, and you would just be absorbed in his warmth.

You often repair his shirts, since it is hard for him to find ones that fit properly, so you love to sew up any tears for him.

Whenever he sees you’re sad he always makes your favorite food and bakes your favorite dessert.

Honestly just total princess treatment.

Todoroki:

Todoroki isn’t very good at showing emotions so he would show his love in other ways. He always leaves a glass of water by your bed in case you wake up thirsty.

He studies with you before every test, and you both help each other in places you’re lacking.

You love to take him to the mall and dress him up in different ways, he usually acts clueless but secretly loves the attention to detail you give him.

During winter you are usually freezing, so he has you cuddle his left side so he can gently warm you up.

One year for Christmas he didn’t know what to get you, so he bought matching sweaters and shirts for you both. You now make him wear them every week.

Tokoyami:

Tokoyami loves to watch you draw, you usually end up throwing away your silly doodles, but he always finds them and puts them up by his desk. Whenever he misses you he just looks through all the drawings he watched you make.

You also love to put cutesy Sanrio stickers all over him, you think it's funny seeing such a gloomy person covered in pink and glitter.

Tokoyami enjoys being with you no matter what you both are doing.

Tsu:

She takes you to the local botanical garden to look at all the plants and bugs. You usually end up in the butterfly garden with her for hours.

You both decided to start a garden together and spend a lot of your free time together caring for it.

During the summer, you and Tsu go to the local river to swim or kayak or really do any water sports. You both love to be in the water and often go swimming together.

During the school year, Tsu knows you always need a snack between classes so she keeps one on her to give you when you get hungry. And it somehow always ends up being your favorite.

SECRET SANTA

hawks x reader

⟢ in which, your secret santa at the office takes it to a whole new level of gift giving. as an arising hero working under Hawks for guidance, you learn that work doesn’t have to be all dull and boring.

December 10th

“The jig is up. She totally knows it’s you.” Mirko chuckled at her feathered friend, showing no mercy in her mockery. Her legs swung as she sat on his desk, using her hands to prop herself up. “You know what she told me? “It’s only day 10–he’s not very slick”.”

Hawks watched as Mirko threw her head back in laughter. In all honesty, what did Hawks expect? You were the agency’s smartest player in the field—predicting every case’s outcome with spot on details that only the perpetrators could know. You were truly incredible.

“She does not.” Hawks rolled his eyes in disbelief at the statement, leaning back in his office chair with his hands behind his head as he closed his eyes, tilting his head up toward the ceiling. He was confident in his capabilities of sly work, until he began to think. Could you really have found out it was him? But, how? Hawks took all the precautions to an extreme extent when it came to the gift giving. The blonde opened one eye, looking to Mirko, “Does she really?”

In response, Mirko nodded her head, pushing herself office the side of Hawks’ desk and walking toward the exit. Hawks observed, waiting for a final word; anticipating a sly comment of some sort from her.

“(Y/N)’s excited for tomorrow.”

December 17th

Despite Hawks’ defeat to your deduction abilities, he continued leaving gifts at your desk every morning. Every gift became more elaborate: on day one, it was flowers (your favorite). Day five, a necklace. Day eleven, a basket of perfume and your favorite makeup brands. And finally, day seventeen, two tickets to your favorite band’s performance the upcoming week.

You and the winged hero sat across from one another as you aimlessly scrolled through work emails. It wasn’t unusual for you two to sit in silence while completing paperwork—it was a daily ritual for you at this point.

It was always Hawks going to your office, laptop in hand and a cheeky grin plastered across his face. He’d plop himself in the seat across from you at your desk, opening his laptop and start answering emails regarding interviews, hero work, etc.

When you came across an email reminding you of the concert, you remembered you still needed to take the time off. You slowly brought your laptop to a 45 degree, making eye contact with Hawks as you did so. “Hey, I’m going to put in a requ—“

“Already done. December 28th, right?”

Hawks couldn’t make it anymore obvious that it was him.

You slowly nodded your head, trying to hold back your all-knowing giggles from escaping. Though it was difficult with his golden eyes watching you, scanning you every once in a while. Anytime Hawks could, he’d take a gander of all of you; normally, eye contact wouldn’t be a difficult task for him, but when it came to you, he couldn’t help but allow his gaze to linger all over.

You had noticed and you liked it. You liked the attention. Usually, you wouldn’t care who looked at you in what way, but you made an effort to take mental notes of the way Hawks looked at you. His facial expressions, where his eyes wandered, his body language—it was all positive.

“Well, it’s more than that.” Hawks tilted his head in curiosity, prompting you to move forward with your thoughts. “I have two tickets—would you want to go with me?”

Hawks cleared his throat and nearly choked, surprised by the generous offer. After all, he had gotten those tickets for you and someone you wanted to bring along, but he didn’t expect that someone to be him. Had he thought of the scenario in his head? Seeing you all dolled up in your outside-of-work attire—he had dreams about it. If you were a sight for sore eyes now, he couldn’t imagine how he would feel outside of the work space.

“I’ll think about it.” The blonde declared, attempting to fool you with a playing-hard-to-get facade. Hawks couldn’t allow himself to seem too eager to go on an outing with you.

He had imagined this thousands of times. A life with you outside of work—as creepy as it sounds, he thought it was more bittersweet. His imagination didn’t run too wild, just a string of dates and whatnot.

“Think I can get an answer by Christmas?” You asked, shutting your laptop completely as you sunk into your rolling chair comfortably.

Hawks copied your movement, closing his computer and stretching his arms high above his head. The bottom of his shirt lifted slightly, giving you a glimpse of his abs beneath his compression shirt. He took note of your staring.

“So demanding.” The hero slumped in the chair, leaning back into the cushioned seat. Hawks’ playful tone filled the atmosphere, “Since when were you the boss lady?”

You shrugged, crossing your arms over your chest, “Since I have to work on Christmas all because of your doing. The least you can do is give me an answer in advance.”

Unfortunately, you were scheduled to go assess prisoners on Christmas day when you could’ve been at home relaxing.

“Oh, come on, it won’t be that bad. Plus, you get to see me.” Hawks spoke, a sly smile accompanying his words.

“Yeah, you and mind numbing criminals. My favorite combination.” You rolled your eyes, averting your gaze to the deep blue night sky outside your window, dotted with white specks that were nearly invisible by the city’s light pollution.

Hawks could sense your frustration behind the humorous comments you were making. He felt a tinge in his chest, feeling guilty for your emotions.

“Why don’t I take you out to dinner after work on Christmas, then? Will that make up for it?”

Your eyes widened at the peculiar offer. The foreign invite from Hawks sparked something in you. Flattery? Curiosity? Whatever it was, it made the little voice in the back of your head gnaw at you, telling you to do it. Wouldn’t it be unprofessional of you? What would his bosses say? Inviting an employee to a non-work related event.

Hawks couldn’t read your mind, but he could read your expression pretty well. He could tell you were shocked by the personal request. To be quite honest, he liked that. Hawks liked the spontaneous factors played into his life, and you happened to be one of them.

The higher ups suddenly alerted him of a new hiree he would be receiving at his agency. “Great,” was all he could think of with an eye roll. Hawks was never one for teaching others. Whenever he hired someone, he made sure that they were capable of all tasks he asked of them—he was strict on that policy. Part of it was because he had no time for it, but the other half was his impatience.

However, when he first met you, he didn’t feel impatient or frustrated with your work ethic. In fact, he was afraid to admit you worked harder and faster than him. That’s why Hawks was so infatuated with you. You went at his exact pace—which was never matched by anyone ever.

“Dinner and milkshakes.” You added, only agreeing to going out with him if a sweet treat was added in.

Hawks chuckled, “Alright, now you’re milking it.”

You looked at him with a serious expression, an awful attempt to state your point. Hawks eventually gave in from just seeing you and your poor attitude.

“Fine.” Hawks stood from his chair, towering over your desk. You found it intimidating, but in a way that you were encaptured by his essence.

You couldn’t care less about your small victory at the moment, you were more focused on maintaining eye contact with the man. You could feel your breathing become more erratic the longer you stared. He was making you nervous.

Hawks had to hold himself back from you. He was afraid to keep eye contact, but failed to look away anytime his brain signaled him to. The heaviness in the room remained at a standstill still. There had always been tension between you two. Ever since you started working at the agency; though you innocently thought it was the work environment. It was different, this strain was thick.

The intimacy was finally cut once there was a knock at your office door. You quickly straightened up in your chair while Hawks returned to his laid-back self.

“So dinner and milkshakes?” You asked, looking between Hawks and the door before finally settling your gaze on the man in front of you. He nodded in response, to which you responded, “Great.”

As Hawks turned toward the door, he spoke over his shoulder, something you could barely hear. However, the message was loud and clear in your head as to what Hawks wanted out of this partnership.

“It’s a date.”
