I hope everyone in the US had a safe, relaxing 4th of July (Happy belated Canada Day, as well)!

I’m home from our trip west and I’m catching up on chores I need to do, but later I’ll be adding some new photos. It was a fun trip and I got to see most of what I wanted, but I’d need substantial time in each city to document the countless abandonments and rust belt scenes.

I’m very happy that Russ talked me into the trip, and grateful he offered to drive me around the cities. We mostly did the touristy thing in Chicago, then rented a car and drove east through Gary and spent the remainder of the trip in Detroit. And wow, Detroit...yes, there is an enormous number of rotting abandonments and decimated neighborhoods, but we saw a striking amount of new building and redevelopment, too. We never felt unsafe in any of the cities, but we did feel a bit uneasy traveling around a few of the Detroit neighborhoods. Other than a warning from a city worker who approached Russ to check on his safety and warn him about drug addicts in the abandonment I was in, we didn’t have much to be worried about. The only individual I saw inside any of my explores was another explorer--and he was friendly and helpful.

The last time I thanked my followers, I stated I hadn’t been out exploring for various reasons but then committed to finding photos to publish from previous adventures.
