TRUE CRIME HAMLET
OK SO:
Hamlet asked them to tell the story. That’s what gets Horatio, in the end. They’d much rather hide in the basement and watch youtube videos until they disappear into the black hole in their bed, but Hamlet asked them to tell it. And Horatio has never been able to deny Hamlet, well, anything.
Besides. There’s still that piece of them that feels like it’s never left that moment, kneeling in a pool of blood in the parking lot of an abandoned 7-11, watching the world collapse around them. There’s still the part of them that wishes someone else knew, someone other than stupid fucking Osric, who moved away as soon as the investigation ended. Maybe, they tell themself, maybe if they tell the story all the way through, so everyone knows, maybe they’ll stop feeling so broken.
So Horatio calls up Fortinbras, the journalist that pitched the show, and tells her that they’ll accept her offer.
The idea is a video (probably) web series, with Horatio as the narrator and Fortinbras occasionally interjecting with an outside perspective, with the help of found footage and eyewitness interviews. It’s not quite true crime, since Horatio already knows what happened and isn’t interested in sensationalizing it, but we do get some of the “unsolved murder” stuff with Fortinbras’s narration. (She gets really into the ghost.) The heart and soul of this adaptation is the idea of being a sole survivor, and Horatio learning to deal with the grief and trauma they’ve been left. They didn’t even live at Elsinore. They didn’t know Hamlet Sr and they barely knew anyone else there, and now they’re the only one carrying the weight of this massive tragedy.
Except, they’re not. (Because I’m not evil or because I love Ophelia too much, take your pick.) Over the course of the show they bring in interviews from the few surviving eyewitnesses. It turns out, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are alive. And so is our favorite girl!! Because I have altogether too many thoughts about young women and mental health, Ophelia did suffer a breakdown but instead of committing suicide was sent to a psychiatric institution. This meant that she avoided the worst of the chaos at Elsinore. I haven’t exactly figured out what the fallout of the play looked like for her, although it certainly wouldn’t have been pretty, but I feel very strongly about Ophelia and Horatio helping each other heal throughout the latter half of the series. They both deserve a break. And really, after a play that showed the breaking down of twisted and strained relationships, it feels right to have the survivors build new and stronger ones on the razed earth.
Also, Horatio says fuck.

Dear Muse(s)/Mun,
HAPPY VALENTINES DAY
A gift from me to you.
Though Valentines may not be for everyone, we get to celebrate the people in our lives and express our affection for those who are dear to us, regardless of relationship status.
I take this day as an opportunity to show my love and support for the countless idv blogs across tumblr (no, like, it's crazy how many of you there are). Please take this as an appreciation gift and thank you for your wonderful content <3 May the future bring you much happiness.
Wishing-you-very-well.
— Mod Joe
P.S.
(( What’s in the box? You decide! It can be literally anything you or your muse(s) want and I don't even know how it works. My point here is that gifts are most valued when the receiver gets something they really want. You want a teddy bear? Here! Want an MK-14? It’s in the box! I am not directly responsible for any sort of damage or chaos this may cause. If you don’t have any ideas, just make it a box of chocolates. ))
Aesopie and Hamlet got a present and they were surprised. The second the box was opened....
Aesopie: It's a cute Aesop plushie in a mini coffin! I don't mind it.
Hamlet: Goddammit.
However....
Hamlet: I change my mind....
Hamlet got a blanket that has patterns of marshmallows.
Hamlet: My favorite blanket now.
Aesopie and Hamlet finds Mod Joe and gave her hugs.

it's honestly wild talking to like. random liberals about sci fi sometimes because they just don't... think about the ramifications of their random beliefs and what the end points of their ideologies are
"gene roddenberry's vision was that by the time of star trek, earth had moved on from the need for religion!"
and it's like. i get it. you forget that every religion exists except american christianity. or you think that all religion basically is american christianity.
but when you say to me, "hey, in my utopian future, jews and muslims and their cultures have simply been eradicated <3"
that. doesn't strike me as very utopian. it sounds very, funnily enough, christofascist
"it's the 24th century and these lads are literally doing bits from hamlet, but don't worry, jews have ceased to exist"
like there's constant quotes from shakespeare or dickens or conan doyle or countless other authors from the literary canon, and that literary canon is predominantly made up of white male christian authors, most of whom are british or american
and all of the human culture in star trek is predominantly defined by white american christian mores and cultural ideals, slightly modernised, but not by that much
it's a desire to treat an ultra modern culture as inherently homogenous because for a certain kind of xenophobic liberal, they genuinely internalise the idea that multiculturism is the cause of strife and conflict rather than lack of tolerance for other cultures, and frankly, they've never truly been comfortable in any sort of multicultural environment
and it's just. gross. and it's honestly wild to me that people will spend like. days and days thinking of the "ethical ramifications" of their like, transporter clone plot, but won't think for a second, "hey, i've created a world where jews, muslims, sikhs, hindus, buddhists, and countless other religious and ethnic groups No Longer Exist, and that's go-- um. wait a second--"

i do think that specifically david tennant being very openly supportive of the trans community has had an interesting effect -- because usually im kinda like "it is nice to know that people whose work i enjoy don't want me dead" and that's kinda my level of (at this point) quite cynical engagement with what a celebrity or artist does or does not think about transness, because these days it feels like it's almost fashionable for well-known (or post-well-known) people to come out of the wordwork and say what they think about trans people, which can get very stressful in its own way (the amount of headlines that try to be misleading or just plain don't say and so you're just like "ok i guess this week i have to find out if [spins wheel] thinks i deserve rights")
but david tennant has a different feeling to it. and to be fair, there are plenty of people with skin in the game, who absolutely deserve to and ought to speak out on behalf of their children/partners/community/friends/family/etc. and im always happy to see these people speak, and dt is included in that list as well
but david tennant is veeery specific in this here country of terf island, in which the labour party will openly state that it will allow certain book writers to affect their policies on trans people, and that's partly because of the effect above in which "having opinions on trans rights seems to be a celebrity game that keeps you relevant, which includes ex prime minister tony blair making his opinion known (hint, it wasn't a good one)" but also because david tennant is known as a national icon to rival that of whatsherface
he was the main actor on doctor who, in the top three, if not very top of british broadcasting iconography that exists. he's one of this generation's most famous shakespearian actors, the other thing that this country-as-culture is most proud of. he's a mainstay in children's film and tv, a standout in modern british crime drama (broadchurch, des), and that's not mentioning things like jessica jones, good omens, and star wars
this guy has no social media, and some of the biggest cultural capital in the uk today -- labour i believe it was made a twitter joke about him ousting the current prime minister as the doctor ahead of this week's election, because that's an iconic scene from doctor who
which means that when he openly calls transphobes whingy and asks them to shut up, there's a bit of a ripple... i mean what are you gonna do, get angry with the doctor? from doctor who??? the man who played a definitive hamlet????? the man who's just done rave reviewed performances of macbeth???? scrooge mcduck????????? this man who occasionally guests on cbeebies???????????
said prime minister and his party and hosts of transphobes go absolutely crazy every time he makes an appearance wearing new trans ally apparel, as if a. he sees any of that and b. it's a dignified response to a man saying, in essence, "i would like my kid to be safe and happy"
david tennant constantly making these statements, again and again, is a powerful voice in the modern fight for trans rights in the UK, in some ways unfortunately, because you wish trans people could have been heard before it got to this state and that it wasn't about being famous, but to be fair, he's also making that point again and again
it kind of feels like the first time in a long time that there's been proper pushback against transphobia in this country from a perspective that the transphobes can't dismiss so easily -- they can try but like. again, one side is a bunch of raving nonsense-spouters on a joke website who mostly belong to a party that's about to get decidedly ousted from the political scene, the other is beloved national icon and star of stage and screen, mr david tennant
of course, it doesn't hurt that the three main actors of harry potter and everyone else who's majorly involved in doctor who, past and present, is also supportive of trans rights, which maybe there's a separate point to be made about the strangeness of a mainstream tv show becoming a cultural battleground for peoples opinions on equal rights, especially now with ncuti gatwa at the helm, because i think some of what ive seen in relation to dw is more extreme than any piece of cultural media ive been alive to witness bigoted reactions to (including star trek), and ncuti gatwa as a black queer man is taking a hell of a lot of flack that is racist and homophobic
but labour... if you're inviting random artists to give you opinions on trans rights, david tennant is right there, and you know he'd make sure to bring along trans rights activists and professionals to get the space in the room they ought to have had all along

"Something good, for god's sake. I have been watching too many Adam Sandler movies lately." Before he could even question her, she raised her finger, clarifying. "It was against my will, okay? I was outnumbered by my cousins." Lena relaxed against the couch, waiting for him to set up the computer. "Oh, maybe a suspenseful one, something that will make me forget about finals for a while." The woman paused, thinking about it, before turning to Hamlet. "You know, you never told me what your favourite movie of all times was."
@th-angelical
Hamlet was also a film student in college and was avoiding going back to Elsinore to 'celebrate' his mother's marriage to his uncle Claudius, as they were insisting he do. They were about to watch whatever films they wanted without having to pay for anything, so he pulled out his laptop and went through the plethora of pirated movie sites he had categorized and bookmarked like it was a school project. "Yeah, but we can watch whatever we want, and there's free tittie popups. What do you want to watch?"
