Alla fine per il Modena è andata bene, per soli 4 punti al tie per differenza partita prosegue in champion, statisticamente incredibile.... È stata una settimana di sport e tradizione, coniugando piatti tradizionali all'agonismo del volley, amato nella nostra città, con squadre ospiti straniere assieme il Modena stesso è stato molto bello. Sotto lo stesso tetto convivenza gradevolissima di 4 squadre top, arbitri e federazione tutti compreso noi in bolla covid rigorosissima. Inizio servizi alle 05.30 fine servizi alle 01.00 senza pausa, a rotazione 4 servizi per ogni squadra..... 😅 Complimenti ai miei ragazzi. Calzedonia Verona-Azimut Modena Volley 3-0 (25-20; 25-17; 26-24)

There isn’t much to say about this match. Modena Volley was totally outplayed by Verona, despite this match was a fundamental step in the team’s quest for a higher ranking in the Regular Season. Probably, this defeat was the worst one I’ve witnessed in the last three years, not because of the defeat itself - that can happen; the point is how you play and fight back to overcome drawbacks. It went so bad that the coach opted for lining up Maxwell Holt in the second set, despite the fact that he has been dealing with a back injury so he’s inevitably very far from his top shape.

In my opinion, Santiago Orduna was the only one who fought on every single ball till the very end, so hats off to him. He did the best he could, given the awful reception he had to deal with. Many fans complain about him, saying that he isn’t at a good enough level for Modena, but he’s been the one who fights the most so far. It’s too easy to use him as an alibi for what goes wrong. It’s unfair. I admire him immensely for his ability to deal with all this pressure, and I proudly admire him for his skills as a setter.

Following this upsetting defeat, coach Roberto Piazza and the club opted for terminating the contract by mutual consent; now, the team will be coached by the former assistant coach Lorenzo Tubertini. Personally, I’m pretty sad about Piazza, as he is a very nice and earnest person, in addition to being a good coach.

Last but not least, today Brian Cook opted for terminating the contract by mutual consent as well. Here’s what he wrote on Ig:

“One of the hardest decisions I've ever made... Sunday night I decided to terminate my contract with Modena Volley. It has been a great year, but in the end I don't feel like staying was right for me. I have nothing but love for the city and people of Modena, and I want to say thank you to my teammates, coaches, staff, society, and everyone involved here at @modenavolley... also a HUGE thank you to the fans. I know this team will bounce back from the recent struggles to bring the scudetto back to the home of volley. I don't know what the future holds, but I do know I will be getting my feet sandy real soon. GRAZIE MILLE MODENA 💙💛 #NSLS “

Now, it’s up to the players to show that #NoiSiamoLaSquadra (#WeAreTheTeam) is more than just a hashtag.
