A Matter of Affection (Chapter 132)
Honestly people bitching over Chapter 132’s panel where Lizzy got up and rushed over to see if real!Ciel was alright is RIDICULOUS. She’s what, 8 or 9 years old and she just wants to see if her cousin/fiancé is okay after being knocked down by THE Frances Midford (c’mon, a blow like that has GOT to hurt) and suddenly everyone thinks care and consideration are the two greatest sins a person could have. Oh god forbid Lizzy make sure her cousin isn’t injured after he got knocked on his ass and looked like he was gonna pass out after Frances gave him a verbal slap down. (And please bear in mind: RC wasn’t a little shit at this age yet so we are allowed to feel sympathy for this future basket-case.)
But this ONE scene has suddenly got people claiming our!Ciel was abused, mistreated, and tormented by his family and relatives?? Like BRUH—you are extrapolating nonexistent and implausible data which 1) you should NEVER do in statistics or in life and 2) it makes you look like a biased, headstrong fanatic who is determined to smear the Phantomhive/Midford families. Just because Vincent commented that his second son was sickly does NOT mean he didn’t love OC. Just because Frances pointed out OC had a weak constitution does NOT mean she didn’t love her nephew. And Lizzy rushing to make sure RC was alright does NOT mean she didn’t care for OC.
For the last flipping time—OC WAS LOVED. His parents were ready to cancel their boat trip because OC got a fever, remember? Does that sound like an abusive household where child services was desperately needed? NO. And did everyone just happen to forget what Lizzy was doing BEFORE RC was knocked flat on his ass? She was asking OC about his cold and wanting to know if he felt better. Lizzy is a considerate, cheerful, CARING girl by nature so OF COURSE she would want to make sure BOTH her cousins are happy, safe, and healthy.
And (I really must reiterate this again), the twins (plus Lizzy) were only 8 or 9 years old. I don’t think children that age are capable of declaring their undying, complex love and devotion for a person who they’ve basically grown up with and seen mainly as their cousin. To all the readers who believe that Lizzy “chose” RC over OC in this scene…Lizzy hasn’t even hit puberty yet, there is NO WAY she understands the nuances and intricacies of romantic love quite yet. She’s a fucking CHILD. In this scene, it was NOT Lizzy openly deciding to abuse and neglect OC, it was, quite simply, a little girl wanting to make sure her cousin wasn’t hurt after getting humiliated by Frances Midford née Phantomhive.
So please, I IMPLORE YOU, to please settle down and remember: this is a little girl who hasn’t even hit a double digit age number yet and all she’s doing is checking to make sure her cousin is okay.
Side note: please, please, please remember that this was the Victorian era. Children were given a greater degree of independence and expected to conduct themselves with all the maturity their station required of them. Because RC and OC were the sons of an earl, nephews to a marquess, and, on top of all this, members of the Phantomhive family, they were expected to behave with a certain amount of self-awareness. They weren’t going to be coddled forever and adults probably spoke to them like they would converse with other adults—which meant they didn’t hold back the truth (i.e. Diedrich’s comment towards OC that had half the fandom up in arms). Thus, with regard to differences in era and social class, we, as readers, must actively remind ourselves not to judge these characters based on our 21st century values.
Do some of these actions look outdated, patriarchal, and outright infuriating? Yes, they do—but the conditions of adolescence ran in accordance to the average lifespan of the Victorian era. A lifespan considerably shorter than our own. People graduated from universities at the age of 18, had children before they were 20, and probably died their mid to late 50s. Children were expected to grow up, learn fast, and uphold the honor and privilege of the family name. Just because OC isn’t coddled every other page doesn’t mean he was a neglected child whose boyhood was filled with emotional melancholy—it represents two key things:
1) That OC’s parents loved him and took the advice of doctors into account: no extraneous physical exercise for fear of triggering his asthma—hence why OC was kept indoors so often. Vincent and Rachel wanted OC to live. Would it really have been better for them to indulge OC’s whims, let him run around with his brother, and then have him suffer an asthma attack and die? I should think not.
2) They tried their hardest to include OC in whatever activities they did. Vincent took BOTH RC and OC with him to inspect the Phantomhive domain. RC explicitly told OC that he liked spending time with him. Lizzy was concerned over OC’s physical health and made sure to ask if he had recovered from his previous illness.
OC was loved. OC is still loved.

Hello! Mod Dokie here \o/
@foresthuntermajrach For some reason we can’t publish your ask in the blog... so we made a new post to answer this! We played with the age a bit because why not
Here!
Police Officers AU
Nina is 22 years old and working as a trainee assistant in a bakery owned by Rita, she’s came to the city to work since she was 17. She had been dating Charioce for a while, whom unlike her, comes from a well-off family and has a degree; lately things have been going stale between them.
Azazel is 27 years old and has been an officer since he was 22; he dropped out of college (laws major) because he realized it wasn’t for him so he started to work under his brother’s unit. He’s never had a girlfriend for more than a couple weeks and his co-workers tease him relentlessly about it.
Through finding out some clothes and photos that are most definitely not hers in Charioce’s apartment she realizes that he’s been cheating on her; when she confronts him he doesn’t deny it nor brag about it, but makes very clear that he never thought of going serious with her.
Nina did the most ‘sensible’ thing and stormed out of his place in her car, driving like crazy which lead her to being stopped by a police car.
Azazel is in a bad mood because due to some altercations most definitely not caused by him (except they totally were) his brother had demoted him temporarily to the traffic work unit and he simply wants to get through with this whole thing.
When he hands the fine to Nina, she doesn’t take it and he notices she has been crying and considers to let it go, right until the point where Nina starts ranting about how all men are pigs and heartless and Azazel takes it personal and they start arguing about it.
At the end Nina leaves with two fines one for reckless driving and another one for contempt; and Azazel returns to the station into an even worse mood than usual to everyone fear and distaste.
A couple of weeks later, Nina was walking to her new apartment when a man tried to assault her. However, she knew self-defence so she was able to subdue the thief without problems. When the police arrived she had already taken care of the assaulter.
Azazel was among the police officers who arrived on the scene, quickly recognizing Nina. Despite their previous discussion, he got interest in her for being the kind of girl “might be able to kick his ass” without problems. That’s why he decided to approach her before his co-workers.
When Nina sees him approach she gets ready to be chewed on again; instead he just acts very professional asking for the data for the record: 'So, you live in number xx of St. xxxx?' 'Yes' 'And you're 22 yrs. old?' 'And you are single?' 'Yes! ...Wait what?'
Nina asked what he was trying to do with his last question but in response, he just gave her a very smug smile that make her blush a little, but she quickly controlled herself.
Azazel tells her then that for protocol and safety reasons they can't allow her to go home alone and he asks about her emergency contact, whom Nina now remembers is still Charioce, so she says she doesn't want to, Azazel notices the sniff and watery eyes so rather than argue, he just offers her a ride home.
At first, Nina wasn’t sure to accept his offer, but between Charioce and a person that she didn’t know yet, she chosen Azazel. She had to accompany him to the police department until his shift ended, going with him when he told her to follow him.
Azazel took her to a police car, causing Nina raise an eyebrow and asks if using it wouldn’t be illegal while he’s off duty. He just shrugs in response and tell that his brother is the boss so he can do that. Nina couldn’t help but laugh a little with that.
On the way to Nina’s apartment, Azazel asked why she looked so uncomfortable with her contact number. She tried to be strong while she was answering but in the end she ended up crying angrily and telling him in the middle of a rant that he was her ex-boyfriend that cheated on her and told him she was only an entertainment. Azazel didn’t tell anything, and just let her out everything.
When they reach Nina’s apartment and before she leaves, she says that she misjudged him that he could be a bit annoying but he wasn’t a bad person. She also tells him that she’s grateful to him, for having listened to her despite not knowing her.
A few days later, Nina receives a call in her phone from a number that she didn’t know. It’s Azazel telling Nina that he checked Charioce’s criminal record and found a lot of fines without paying and asks her if she wants him to court summon Charioce. Nina asks why he wants to do that and he answer with ‘Because I thought that bother him would help you to feel better’. She says that she’s grateful, but that isn’t necessary; even if that man hurts her a lot, she doesn’t want to think about him anymore and wants to keep forward.
A few days after Azazel stops another car and he recognizes Charioce in the car accompanied by another woman, he attempts to be professional and just do his job but he overhears the woman talking lowly of the 'pink-haired brat you used to play around with' and he snaps when Charioce just chuckles in agreement so he spats that 'I'd take a brat over a bimbo any day'. Charioce very calm gets out of the car and punches him, Azazel's reflexes act quickly and he lands a punch at the same time.
In the night, after his job, Azazel visits Nina with some ingredients to cook and a broken nose. She gets worried and wanted to ask him what happened with his face, but Azazel looked at her from top to bottom and says ‘I expected to find you with less clothes, but that pyjamas aren’t bad at all’. Nina gets blushed and quickly closes the door on his face.
But she noticed that she didn’t have a lot of food for that night and after dress something more decent (and get tired from Azazel knocking the door), she finally let him enter to her apartment. This time she just took the ingredients and goes to the kitchen, but Azazel says if ‘she won’t ask about his nose’. Her response is ‘Not really. You’re the kind of person that begs to be punched’.
Anyway Nina asks him what he thinks to cook because she doesn’t know too much about it, and in response Azazel just stares at her because he thought she knows how to cook. After notice none of them know how to cook, they tried to do it together but in the end everything was a mess, so they end up ordering a pizza.
After they finish eating, Nina finally asks why does he have a broken nose, and Azazel at first tries to play it cool like it's just an occupational hazard, but after Nina points out just how many of those can there be in traffic duty he just tells her to ask her ex, Nina connects the dots very slowly and when she does she actually slaps his shoulder (she can't reach higher) and nags him because she told him to leave it alone.
Nina tried to offer some dessert to him, but he looked at the cake in distaste and claimed to hate sweet stuff, Nina just huffed and ate the cake in front of him; she was a little unnerved by how he was staring at her eating and then all of the sudden when she was about to take another bite her spoon was grabbed it with his mouth.
When Azazel let go of her spoon, Nina felt a little to shocked to react immediately until he licked his lips and said: That was actually tasty’ and he stared at her mouth and smirked and she barely got enough hold on herself to say ‘If you don't like sweet stuff, then why do you like me?’ and he looked taken for a little moment before he surged forward and kissed her, it was a quick and barely there but she still felt frozen in place. ‘Have a date with me.’ He said in a breathy voice.
Nina wasn’t sure how to answer at first because she doesn’t feel ready for a new relationship yet. Still, she ended up in accepting the date because she thinks would be nice meet new people, and he showed to her that he’s a good man despite being so presumptuous.
Their first date was in an amusement park; while Azazel chosen the horror house and the game where he can get her close to him (failing in the horror house because Nina finds out the monsters cute) while Nina chosen roller-coasters and vertigo games. Azazel participated in an aiming game and won a giant stuffed toy of a red dragon and gave it to her in exchange for a kiss. Nina agreed because the dragon was so cute.
Since Lucifer didn’t let Azazel take a police car to go to his date, Nina offered him to bring his to his house. He accepted because that means more time with her, and took the chance to bother her for a little more. When they finally reached his home and he was ready to leave, she says she got fun that day and if he wants, she wants to repeat it another time.
Hope you like it!
