Poor Phoenix
Entry Number: 5 Dream: Justin Arana (5) Summary: Justin's first championship with SMB. Rating: G
“Aww, my munchkin, I’m sorry.” Eve raised her arms and opened them wide before wrapping them around Justin’s waist as soon as he hugged her. “I’m really sorry, my munchkin.”
“No, you’re not,” Justin replied, a teasing tone in his voice. Even though Converge lost, Justin still found time to tease her. “You’re happy San Miguel won, aren’t you?”
“We don’t talk about Converge versus San Miguel games, you know that,” Eve said.
“Don’t be shy, we both know…”
“Munchkin, munchkin.” Eve pushed him back. “I swear, if you continue this Converge versus SMB thing, we’re not having dinner.”
Justin chuckled. “Okay, okay, I’m sorry. But I am really down about it.” He sighed. “There’s still next conference, right?”
“You will make it to the very top!”
“Converge versus SMB for the finals!”
“Oh God,” Eve groaned. “That’s it, you’re bringing me home!”
However, Eve did not have to worry anymore about rooting for her boyfriend and her favorite team. Justin had been traded to San Miguel. Justin Arana was now a San Miguel Beerman, and she couldn’t be happier.
“You won!” Eve screamed. “You won, you won, you won!”
Justin picked her up and spun her around. “We did! We won!” He hugged her. “I never thought I’d be part of a championship team.”
“And it was thanks to you!”
It was. After Encho Serrano’s last shot, the SMB team tried to score one more time, but the ball didn’t go in the basket, and Javee Mocon got the rebound. All seemed lost as the clock was winding down. People from the Phoenix team were shouting and congratulating each other. Some even stopped playing and headed to their bench.
But Justin Arana did not want to back down. As the seconds ticked away, Justin searched for the right opportunity to steal the ball. As the clock reached 3 seconds, Justin lunged forward, stole the ball from the opponent, ran to their basket, and dunked.
The San Miguel crowd went wild. And Eve… well, she wasn’t sure what she did, but she knew that Justin had done that for her.
As the game finished, while the crowd was chanting the team name, the team was chanting Justin’s name. In turn, the crowd chanted his name as well. Eve couldn’t help but cry.
“I did that… for you. I couldn’t let you down. It’s my first conference with this team and to lose by one point? No way! And to Javee Mocon and Encho Serrano? Heck no.”
“I was looking for Javee’s wife,” she admitted. “Of course, I couldn’t find her, but I wanted to see her reaction, knowing that it was her husband who failed their team and made them lose the championship that they could have won, had they not been complacent. And that was Phoenix’s first time reaching this level… poor them.”
They both laughed.
“The team’s having dinner. Let’s go?” Justin grabbed her hand.
“Wouldn’t I be interfering?”
“Nah, we’re bringing anyone we want to. And Paul Zamar will be there, you know.”
Eve giggled. “Bringing you and Paul back is such a dream. Working with Jericho, Simon, June Mar, Marcio, Allyn, Vic… Chris, Rodney…”
“Okay, okay, I get it. You know all the SMB players.”
“But you are my favorite one.” She dabbed a finger on his chest.
“Not Paul?”
“Justin!”

Rain or Shine drags Magnolia to Game 7 for last PBA finals ticket
James Yap with another reliable performance for Rain or Shine. PBA IMAGES ANTIPOLO — Just as their foes were reaching for the dagger in the very arena where they have emerged unscathed and crowned as champions, the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters looked calm and collected, giving themselves a fightback of their own in Game 6 of the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals. The Elasto Painters leaned on the marksmanship of Rey Nambatac and yet another steady performance by James Yap to fend off Magnolia, 91-81, and forge a decider for the last remaining Finals berth, Friday night at Ynares Center here. “I just told the players to enjoy this game, to keep it simple and it worked,” said coach Caloy Garcia, whose squad managed to extend the series after falling in three consecutive meetings. “I told them to not think about whatever happens and asked each one of them to play their game and stay relaxed,” he added. And it showed. Yap led all of Rain or Shine’s scorers with 16 while Nambatac and Beau Belga tossed in 15 apiece. Jewel Ponferrada added 11 more to preserve their promising start to their semifinal series. Magnolia managed to knot the affair at 62 by the end of the third quarter, all thanks to Ian Sangalang’s showing. But they had no answer for Nambatac, who started to catch fire from deep at the start of the final frame. From thereon, Nambatac and Yap took turns on scoring, snuffing out every ounce of counterattack the Hotshots mounted. “Coming into Game 7, we just have to do the same,” Garcia said of their sudden-death match scheduled this Sunday at MOA Arena in Pasay. “But Magnolia, coming into such situation, have much more experience. We just have to trust each other,” he added. The victory snapped Magnolia’s eight-game streak at Ynares Center, where the Hotshots crowned Governor’s Cup champions last December. Their last loss came in Sept. 17, 2017, in the hands of TNT. Rain or Shine could also deny Magnolia a chance to get back at its tormentors in last year’s all-Filipino finals. The scores: RAIN OR SHINE 91 – Nambatac 16, Yap 16, Belga 15, Ponferada 11, Torres 8, Norwood 8, Rosales 7, Ahanmisi 5, Daquioag 2, Mocon 2, Borboran 1. MAGNOLIA 81 – Sangalang 19, Lee 18, Jalalon 14, Herndon 9, Brondial 6, Melton 5, Reavis 4, Barroca 3, Ramos 3, Dela Rosa 0, Pascual 0, Abundo 0. Quarters: 21-17, 41-35, 62-62, 91-81. Modified Atmosphere Packaging Testing Equipment
Modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) is one of the fastest-growing methods for preserving fresh foods. MAP involves flushing and compensating the atmosphere of a packaged food with carbon dioxide and nitrogen, which helps to increase its shelf life. This type of packaging also uses barrier film to help keep moisture, ambient gases, and contaminants away from the product. It is a safe and effective way to preserve many different types of foods without the need for harsh chemicals or artificial additives.
Several circumstances can cause packaged food to spoil, including oxidation and the growth of aerobic microorganisms. However, a large portion of the spoilage rate is due to oxygen, which can be quickly and easily decreased with the use of MAP technology. The process of MAP is fairly simple, but it does require an effective test and monitoring system to ensure the MAP gas stays inside the package, as well as other testing equipment like gas sensors and pressure meters for evaluating seal integrity.
For example, if a pack of powdered milk is not in a MAP environment, it will spoil quickly. By eliminating the oxygen from the packaging, this will prevent oxidation, which can cause off-flavors and a change in texture. This is especially important for highly sensitive products, such as baby formula, which needs to stay fresh as long as possible.
In addition, a low level of nitrogen in the packaging can prevent spoilage and mold formation in breads and cakes. These are two of the most common foods that are packaged in MAP environments, but this is not the only food that benefits from this technology. Many meat products are preserved under a MAP environment, as it can reduce the rate of bacterial spoilage and extend the shelf life of the product. Likewise, canned and dried fruits are often packed under a MAP environment because it can prevent oxidation and maintain the flavor of the food.
As the popularity of MAP grows, so does the need for accurate and efficient testing tools. Modified atmosphere packaging testing equipment, such as an oxygen analyzer and chamber sealer are the best tools for ensuring that a packaged product is safe to be sold. For this reason, every MAP-producing facility should invest in these essential pieces of testing equipment.
A MAP headspace gas analyzer, such as the SprintIR from AMETEK MOCON, can help to assure that your MAP packaged products are safe for consumption by checking the composition of the gas in your product's packaging. A sample of the packaging's headspace is drawn with a syringe into the instrument, which has a septum that protects against atmospheric air and allows for easy sample drawing. This information can be viewed instantly to determine if the headspace gas composition meets your quality standards. This will help you to meet your commitments to your customers and keep them satisfied.

[ad_1] FILE – Javee Mocon. PBA IMAGES ANTIPOLO — Reduced to a mere spectator on Saturday night, Javee Mocon couldn’t help but feel sorry for Phoenix. The Fuel Masters, rebuilding under interim Jamike Jarin and following a bevy of trades, absorbed a 98-94 defeat at the hands of NLEX at Ynares Center here—their fourth loss in five outings. “It’s very frustrating because I’m seeing things from the coaching side as well: my teammates’ plays, their errors,” he told reporters on his way out of the hilltop arena. “As a player, it’s also frustrating to see that we can actually win, and that I could’ve been able contribute. The games we’ve lost (so far) were close ones. Meaning, we can actually win had we pushed a little more. But things like this happen,” he went on. A slump to open a campaign does happen. Such was the case for Phoenix during the Commissioner’s Cup, where the club lost their first three before catching fire and winning five straight. So count Mocon among the believers that Phoenix could still salvage its conference. “We got our first win, coach Jamike got his first win. So that’s a good thing. We just have to look into that. Of course, build on that. We have to learn and hopefully, eventually, we’d get our groove,” he said. All this talk of hoping is cheap without all the work that’s required. And Mocon knows that, which is why he is looking to rejoin the team’s preparations as soon as he can. A knee procedure (bone spurs) has kept Mocon shelved for quite some time now, but he is hoping that he could plunge back into practices on February 8 and finally see action—barring any complications—against Terrafirma on Feb. 18. “Still can’t say for sure, as nothing’s concrete. But I’m taking it day by day,” he said. “The conference is not yet over and we still have games to play,” he added. Your subscription could not be saved. Please try again. Magnolia closer to finals return, overcomes Rain or Shine in Game 5
Mark Barroca in action. PBA IMAGES MANILA, Philippines–Following back-to-back losses in the PBA Philippine Cup, coach Chito Victolero has yearned for nothing more than rest for Magnolia. He got that during the Lenten break and the Hotshots were never the same again. Victolero and his wards typified that and more in Magnolia’s gritty 82-74 victory over Rain or Shine on Tuesday night at Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay, stringing up three straight wins and breaking their tie in their race-to-four series in one fell swoop. “We just tried to be consistent. We tried to focus more on defense and limit their score under 90. Defensively I’m proud of what we’ve done,” Victolero told reporters. “That’s where we draw our strength—energy,” he added. “Fresh legs are very important to my system. I badly wanted to have my players rest since we’e been tired physically and mentally.” Mark Barroca and Jio Jalalon made up for Paul Lee’s unproductive night, scoring 14 each, while Rafi Reavis and Ian Sangalang tossed in nine and eight points, respectively, to help the Hotshots inch closer to a second-straight all-Filipino Finals appearance. The Elasto Painters leaned on its skipper and their quiet contributor in this series Gabe Norwood to keep their foes within striking range. But they had no answers for Magnolia, which aside from clamping them down to just 30% from the field, also managed to draw 54 points from its reinforcements. “We’re number one in points allowed in defense [in the past]. As long as our defense is in good shape, we do well,” Victolero said. Magnolia will try to close out the second-best team of the elimination round when they meet again on Friday at Ynares Center, where they enjoy an undefeated streak of sorts. “That’s great news,” Victolero said of playing in Antipolo. “We just need to find ways again when we play them again.” The scores: MAGNOLIA 82 – Barroca 14, Jalalon 14, Reavis 9, Brondial 9, Sangalang 8, Herndon 8, Dela Rosa 7, Ramos 7, Melton 6, Lee 0. RAIN OR SHINE 74 – Norwood 15, Yap 12, Borboran 11, Daquioag 9, Torres 8, Nambatac 6, Belga 5, Rosales 3, Mocon 3, Ahanmisi 2, Ponferada 0. Quarters: 16-10, 40-34, 58-57, 82-74.
