It’s been a while since I’ve watched ATLA so forgive me if this is actually canon but maybe Sokka finding out about how Zuko is the Blue Spirit?
Okay so like I wrote this but after I revealed that Zuko was the Blue Spirit I was at a loss for where to go lmao. So there's no actual REACTION from Sokka, just the confession. But I didn't want to leave you hanging after you were so kind to provide a prompt in the first place! One day I may actually have the brain cells to finish this, but for now, here's Sokka
~~
Sokka hated plays.
Okay, that wasn’t true – he actually really liked storytelling overall, and plays were just another form of storytelling. But he hated sitting still in the dark for hours, unable to exclaim or shout or anything when something interesting happened.
Not that anything was happening that was interesting. The play Katara had dragged them all to see was a romance, and while Sokka was nothing if not a romantic at heart, he and Suki had just recently broken up, and he was a little salty. It stung a little when your girlfriend admitted that she was attracted to someone else, a woman, and couldn’t reliably be in a relationship with Sokka until she could sort her own feelings out.
Sokka respected that, okay? Suki liking women wasn’t any more surprising than the rising feelings Sokka had in his chest for a certain firebender in their group – in fact, he’d say his crush was more surprising – but that didn’t mean he wasn’t still bummed out. Suki was incredible, and Sokka didn’t want to reminisce on the wonderful person he’d lost.
But Katara had insisted he come, claimed it would “take his mind off things,” (his mind wasn’t on anything, okay? He was happy for Suki, he really was, there was nothing on his mind), and then forced him onto Appa without even letting him change his clothes.
Shocking him more was the fact that not only had Katara asked Zuko along, but Zuko had agreed. Enthusiastically. When Katara had first brought up the play, Zuko had scoffed, no doubt remembering their groups prior run ins with plays. But then she’d mentioned the name, and his whole demeanor had changed. He’d gone quiet, softened, his eyes brightening and a smile quirking on his lips. And then he’d agreed instantly.
Toph wasn’t there – she was with her parents for the weekend – so it was just the four of them, Katara and Aang in the seats behind Sokka and Zuko, for which Sokka was grateful. If he had to watch them hold hands all night, he’d be sick. He was already full of nerves just from sitting next to Zuko, and uncomfortable that his brain and his stupid feelings would act like this when he and Suki had literally broken up less than a week ago.
So no, he wasn’t paying a lot of attention. He kind of hated this play.
Zuko, however, was leaned forward on his knees, his palms pressed together and his fingers resting against his lips as his eyes tracked the actors across the stage. His hair was swept back, and despite the fact that Sokka hadn’t gotten the chance to change, Zuko somehow had, and he was wearing more Fire Nation clothing than usual. Granted, he was to be the Fire Lord in a few days (this was one of the last outings Sokka had a feeling they’d be on for a while), but he’d always stuck to more neutral colors and clothes around them.
Sokka wondered if he was trying to make a good impression on the people, and ignored how good Zuko looked in the color red.
Everyone in the audience started applauding and Sokka blinked rapidly as the house lights came up. He started clapping halfheartedly, glancing around as people began standing. “Is it over?” he asked, surprised. That was much faster than the one about them.
“Intermission,” Zuko said, standing and stretching his arms behind his back, and don’t stare, Sokka, that’s one of your best friends. “Twenty minutes. You guys want a snack?” he asked, addressing Katara and Aang.
"Ooh! Can you find me some sizzle crisps?” Aang chirped.
Zuko gave him a nod and gestured to Sokka. “C’mon.”
Sokka followed him, curious. “Why’d you need me to come?” he asked as they left the theater and headed for the concessions.
Zuko gave him an unimpressed look and a lifted eyebrow. “You weren’t paying a single second of attention in there. I could tell you were bored.”
Sokka flushed, wanting to protest but knowing he couldn’t. “It’s just…not a play I’m in the mood to see right now.”
“I get it,” Zuko said, nodding and looking ahead. They stopped, standing in line. “Mai and I just called it quits for good.”
Sokka almost choked on his tongue. “You-? I’m sorry man, I didn’t know.”
Zuko gave a half shrug. “S’okay.”
“How can you stand being here?” Sokka asked, baffled.
Zuko’s neutral frown slipped into a soft smile, full of fondness. His eyes glittered as he tossed a side glance at Sokka. “It was one of my mom’s favorite plays.”
“I thought you said they always butchered this play?” Sokka recalled.
“They do,” Zuko agreed. “But it’s…one of the last things I have of her. So it’s special.”
“Oh.”
Suddenly Sokka felt like a jerk for not paying more attention. He swore to himself at that moment that he’d pay attention for the second half of the play, no matter how boring he might think it was. He’d pay attention if it killed him, if the roof came down in flames, if-
“Sir? Your order?” the bored attendant at the concession stand drawled.
Right. Paying attention.
~~
When he saw the mask, Sokka sat up straighter and followed it across the stage, his lips parting a little. It was a deep blue color, with white accents around the mouth and cheeks, smiling wickedly. “That looks like the Blue Spirit’s mask,” he whispered in surprise.
Zuko hummed. “It is.”
Sokka looked at him, confused. “It is?”
Zuko nodded, eyes still on the play. His cheek was resting in his hand. “Yeah. I used the one my mom had hidden in the palace at first, and then a replica I found until I gave it up.”
I.
I used.
I found.
“You-?” Sokka squeaked, trying hard to keep his voice down.
Zuko blinked twice, furrowed his eyebrows, and then looked over at Sokka. “Yeah? I was the Blue Spirit.”
"What?"

I’m sorry that so many people are treating you so horribly and disgustingly over supporting trans people, especially trans youth. Please know that people like you that are in my life (my family, friends, and teachers) that are supportive and ESPECIALLY fellow LGBTQ+ people are the reason that I felt comfortable enough to explore my gender and sexuality. Seeing that representation in others is so important. Thank you for being that person and for standing up for trans people 💕💕
Ok sorry this took me forever to respond to it was just nice to have in my inbox to see whenever I've had to go in and delete rude asks. But strangely since turning off anon I've gotten none 🤔 weird, I thought they cared so much about "the children"
But anyway, thank you for your kindness ❤️ and I'm glad you've been able to comfortably explore your own gender and sexuality, that's so so important ❤️❤️
