Sooo excited for @mllongworth 's Provençal mystery series to become a television series on @britbox_uk !! Three episodes are now available to watch and I had the chance to sit down to watch the first one based on the book you see here (#2 in the series! There are currently 9 books with a 10th being released this coming October). Mary Lou had appeared four times on either @thesimplesophisticatepodcast (check out episode #310 where she talks about her books coming to television and of course we always talk about food and Provence!) or the blog and needless to say, I am a superfan. I will not deny it. Yep, one of my favorite moments ever was when she kindly gave me a walking tour of Aix en Provence and showed me the actually buildings that inspires where Antoine lived and where Marine Bonnet lived (be sure to check out the post on TSLL blog). If you haven't tuned in already, this series is the perfect marriage for Francophiles and Anglophiles. I think you will thoroughly enjoy it. ☺️🇫🇷❤️ https://www.instagram.com/p/Can9Y63r_e4/?utm_medium=tumblr

Happy Tuesday 📚🌺🌙😁 Busy re-reading the Verlaque and Bonnet detective novels by ML Longworth @mllongworth 🕵️‍♂️📖 My spouse is an actual detective who is a huge fan of mystery novels (🤣 I wonder why). So I’m always reading mysteries to pre-screen for his collection 📚😉 These novels are set in Aix-en-Provence and are terribly southern French in the best ways. I enjoy them especially when I’m in a missing-France mood 😘 because they capture the local flavor perfectly, while also delivering an intricate, satisfying mystery 🔍 Check them out if you get a chance and if you have any great detective or mystery reads, please leave me a suggestion!!! Always looking for more books to devour here 🤩 * * * * * * * #tuesdaythoughts #mysterybooks #mysterynovel #bookrecommendations #bookreviews #bookreviewer #livreaddict #livrestagram #booksarebae #readingislit #readstagram #mysteryreader #authorslife #readmorebooks #booksandflowers #quoteoftheday✏️ #bookquotes #oscarwilde #oscarwildequotes #detective #detectivefiction #fictionbooks #crimebooks #frenchbook #francemylove #reread #rereading #verlaqueandbonnet #mllongworth #freedomquotes (at Saint Augustine, Florida) https://www.instagram.com/p/CAFmqwCgz0A/?igshid=6h2tzfntuadc

310: Murder in Provence, M.L. Longworth Talks about Her Series Coming to BritBox
Tumblr media
Provencal mystery writer M.L. Longworth joins me on the podcast for this year's French Week to share some exciting news about her series.
I invited Mary Lou back to the show (see our previous conversations here - ep. #268 - and here - ep. #203) as I recently learned her novels had been optioned for a television series to air on BritBox. Longworth shares many details about the cast, when it will premiere, which books will be included in season one and much more. Be sure to take the tour of Aix-en-Provence she gave me in this post to enjoy a taste of the world of Antoine Verlaque and Marine Bonnet, and tune in to today's episode as she talks about food, shares a delicious recipe AND shares the synopsis for her upcoming 10th mystery and when to expect it to be released.
Links mentioned during our conversation:
1st book in her Provençal series - Death at the Chateau Bremont
Most recent book in the series (9th) - The Vanishing Museum on the Rue Mistral

M.L. Longworth's Lentil & Duck Breast Salad
As shared during episode #310 of The Simple Sophisticate podcast, Provençal mystery writer M.L. Longworth shared a recipe during our conversation that offers a quintessential taste of summer in Provence.
1/2 cup French lentils (cooked) (follow the directions on the package or simply boil in water for about 10-15 minutes, then drain. )
6 Tbsp walnut oil or vinagriette
2 Tbsp sherry vinegar or red-wine vinegar
1/2 tsp Dijon mustard
freshly ground pepper
1-2 cups mache (lamb's tongue lettuce) or watercress (washed and roughly chopped)
1-2 ounces thin slices of cooked duck breast (substitute - prosciutto)
Prepare the lentils: add the lentils to water and bring to a boil, simmer for 10-15 minutes until to desired tenderness. Drain out excess water.
Prepare the vinegriette: in a small bowl add the vinegar, dijon and then slowly add and whisk in the walnut oil. Finish with freshly ground pepper to taste.
If you are unable to find duck and cook yourself (often you can find cooked duck breast in the markets in France), a great substitute is ham or prosciutto - thinly sliced.
Divide the vinegriette. Dress the salad with half and then add the lentils to the salad and add gradually the remaining vinegriette to dress the rest of the salad (you may not need to use all of the vinegriette or you may need to make more - just keep the proportions the same). Plate the lentils and lettuce and top with the duck breast. Enjoy with a glass of rosé - bien sûr!

New on the blog, I am incredibly excited to slip away to France if only vicariously through the wonderful new Provençal mystery by @mllongworth . Discover a Q & A with the author as she talks about not only her book but life in Provence during over the past year, what she is enjoying during the spring culinary season, why the proposed Picasso museum will not be coming to Aix (she has the inside scoop!) and when the next book in the series will be released (if you're like me, she can't write them fast enough - I devour each mystery far too quickly and this one - The Vanishing Museum on the Rue Mistral is no different. An absolutely wonderful read. #tsllfrancophilefind #tsllsimpleluxuries https://www.instagram.com/p/COeYjOdnkkm/?igshid=1iet6x0eiyito

268: M. L. Longworth Talks Provence during the Holidays, Favorite Cookbooks and Her New Provençal Mystery
Tumblr media
Listen to Episode #268
~Subscribe to The Simple Sophisticate: iTunes | Stitcher | iHeartRadio | YouTube | Spotify
Today's episode is my recent conversation with returning guest M.L. Longworth. Her latest mystery in her Provençal mystery series became available to readers last Tuesday, and it is the eighth in the Bonnet and Verlaque series: A Noël Killing.
Having had the opportunity to read and having thoroughly enjoy the book earlier this fall, I invited her on the show again to talk about the book and so much more. After all, France, and specially Provence, is a place TSLL readers are quite fond of along with myself, and why not learn more about this special place on the map from someone who has called it home for more than 22 years!
For the first time, the plot is set during the winter holidays in Aix-en-Provence, which prompted me to ask a handful of questions about Provence during this festive time of year.
Of course, food was the topic of a more than a few questions, and Mary Lou generously shares her go-to Provençal cookbooks as well as recipes she enjoys making for her family and friends and items she looks forward to purchasing from the artisanal shops during the winter season.
A Noël Killing is a true delight of a Provençal mystery that is cozy in all the right ways, and keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering who will turn out to be the culprit behind the unexpected murder. Be sure to tune into our conversation, and do not forget to discover her Petit Plaisir which is shared at the end of the episode: It is simple and lovely, as well as an inexpensive daily routine that will take the definition of simple luxury to the next level during this special time of year, put perhaps year-round too.

The second posting on IG of @mllongworth new book set to be released this November. And partially promoted by these deeply delicious purple dahlias but also because I am absolutely loving the book. Each night after a long day at work, I sleep away to Aix en Provence courtesy of Mary Lou’s Provençal mystery and characters. I recommend highly preordering. #tsllfrancophilefind #tsllreads #tsllelevatetheeveryday https://www.instagram.com/p/B3uPlLyA2OG/?igshid=1n91fx4ek4d0d

Sometimes stepping away from the world is a very healthy habit to do when we have done what we can and should, are still staying aware of the unfolding events, but in a measured, balanced way, yet then recognizing that consciously stepping away is healthy and necessary. I will be doing so with @mllongworth ‘s new book, the next mystery in her Provençal series! Being released in October, be sure to stay tuned in the coming weeks for my review and an interview with the author. Thank you Mary Lou for letting us slip away to Provence. 😌💛🇫🇷 https://www.instagram.com/p/B24MdHHgqZJ/?igshid=xm6pp4o2raiq
