As for Kombat Kasts they said they don’t know the schedule yet. I don’t think they’re going to be weekly like they were for MK11, not yet at least, we most likely won’t hear anything until San Diego Comic Con where I believe Twitter said they’d have a panel? Maybe? Did I make that up?

Was only now able to watch the kombat kast and I always say this but every character looks so sick. I really love how many creative options every character seems to have, it's really refreshing after how linear everyone felt in MK11. Kind of feels like they're taking the "if everyone is broken no one is" philosophy of MK9 and just making it more refined

This is incredibly well put.

For months Sonya fans hoped, speculated and tried to be upbeat as character after character was revealed and we got... nothing. Not a mention beyond Kameo. Misdirection and vague answers to fan questions. From the first trailer on where she was noticeably absent, it was clear we were in for disappointment. We looked for easter eggs in early footage and watched Kombat Kasts hoping for something. What we got was led along and it feels like a total disservice.

It's MK1. It's a new universe and the OG female fighter for Earthrealm isn't present for the story. The Earthrealm squad is a sausage fest on a very bro-tastic journey. The base roster is mostly 3D characters from an era where the game company was struggling and I just don't get it at all. We don't get to see how Sonya could have changed or grown. Instead we get erasure. Other characters have her moves, Lei Mai has her attitude. Johnny has another wife and acrimonious divorce under his belt. We get nebulous references from him saying "Who was she? " and "Someday Lt. Bae."

The message boards are filled with hate, people calling her basic, boring and bitchy. "She can sit out this one" or maybe one of the what five? different colored ninjas could. Or Radian, considering Lui's status now. If that happened people would riot but when Sonya fans do rhey get slammed down.

It f***king hurts. It makes me emotional and angry because every game seems to do Sonya a disservice in some way. MK9 gave her a ridiculously misogynistic costume, MKX made her guilt/trauma/work the reason her family broke up and MK11 straight up killed her. Now she is just...gone. *Spoilers* Even the supposed datamine has nothing for her and Cassie may come in without her? Like WTF?

They had a world of story options. Have Sonya undercover with the Black Dragon, have her as the new head instead of Kano. Put her in the FBI with Jax. Neither expressly needs to be SF.

As a CageBlade writer, my hopes keep flickering because our new content from the source is paper thin. Cage Match comes out next month and i highly doubt we will get anything there either. I'm not going to yuk anyone's yum( because God knows we need more LGTBQ stories. As a Pansexual, I am all for characters loving who they want) but we are already watching hits for Johnny/Kenshi go through the roof. Its new, its hot and it's visible. So our small fandom may get even smaller.

@dei2dei and I are both working hard to write new fics but motivation is hard when you are angry, anxious and disappointed. It feels like NRS has failed Sonya fans on just about every level. So we'll write and we'll fix things and we'll bring the content.

Treating Sonya like a flaw in the plan that can be erased is heartbreaking but you know who is really good at taking heartbreak and writing something better?

Okay the game's been out for a few days now, but spoilers!

While it has significant good points, am I allowed to say now how angry and disappointed I am by how Liu aka the devs treated our queen?

I'm glad to see old faces return, I'm so happy for fans who missed their faves for years and yes not every kharacter has to be on every roster...

But FFS, this is a reboot of MK1! The original game Sonya was the first female kharacter for. I love Kitana, love Sindel, really happy to see Mileena finally getting her due, but we wouldn't have any of them if Sonya hadn't done so well for the OG game, if Ed and John hadn't realised they needed a badass lady amongst all those men.

Plus the way NRS handled this whole thing - both the marketing and the storymode - was a mess. Frankly they led Sonya fans on despite knowing how upset fans can get after what happened with Mileena in MK11. I know because I was roped in since May on Twitter. I wish they'd have managed expectations early on, esp in a game we'd expect her to be in. A few kind words at cons, even just a few references in Storymode to explain her absence, it would have been really sad, but not the almost contemptuous erasure we got here.

Worse, it makes the pious, compassionate Liu Kang look awful for just ignoring or erasing one of his best friends and most loyal allies. Earthrealm starts out with no female champion and an overload of guys. And it seems to support all those awful takes that 'Sonya's boring', 'she's just a gun lady' or (and I don't know where they get this one?) 'she's a Tr*mp supporter!' 'She & SF can sit this one out'.

Finally, some of Sonya's lines, moves and roles have been taken and not just in this game. It's heartbreaking to see certain rude fans troll Sonya fans with how 'awful', 'boring' and 'militant' she is, but see people praise/enjoy other kharacters for what Sonya does. You can see from her Kameo how magical, athletic and vivacious Sonya used to be, she wasn't always a hardened military vet played by a fighter who sadly couldn't voice-act. Even then, I still love her as a general, she's always fought for Earthrealm and been loyal to Raiden and Liu, even if the majority seem to forget that.

I'm just fuming that all we get of her is 1 intro hint, an unlockable Johnny's announcer voice talking about her and the awful evil version with Kano's eye at the end for 2 mins. While Johnny has an ex wife and flirts with every woman he comes across, Kenshi partners with Jax, Johnny uses a drone, Kitana has a virtually identical fatality, Li Mei has some of her moves. Now I hear (spoiler) that Cassie - her daughter might be in KP2 without her.

Rant over, I just hope Mortal Kombat 2 (the movie) does her justice and shows NRS and some of the fans what they are missing.
