Mitch and Auston - Locker Room Series
Hey everyone, welcome to my very first series! I'm gonna do a little fanfic about our two favorite boys (Auston and Mitch, duh) and how they interact both on and off the ice ;) enjoy and lmk if you have any requests or suggestions!
The locker room is bustling with activity as the Toronto Maple Leafs players prepare for their next game. Mitch Marner, a charismatic and talented forward, sits at his locker, lacing up his skates. Auston Matthews, a strong and stoic player, approaches him.
Auston smirks. "Hey, Marner, you ready for tonight?"
Mitch looks up from his skates, his eyes lighting up when he sees Auston. He flashes a mischievous grin. "Always ready, Auston. You know me."
Auston leans casually against the locker beside Mitch, his eyes never leaving Mitch's face. "Oh, I know you, alright. You're always full of surprises."
Mitch raises an eyebrow, playfully feigning innocence. "Surprises? Me? I'm just a simple hockey player, Auston. What surprises could I possibly have in store for you?"
Auston smirks, a glint of amusement in his eyes. "Well, let's just say your puck handling skills aren't the only thing that catches my attention."
Mitch's cheeks turn a faint shade of pink as he meets Auston's gaze, his voice lowering playfully. "Are you talking about my passing game, Auston? I've been known to make some pretty sweet assists."
Auston leans in closer, his voice dropping to a whisper. "It's not just the assists that get me, Mitch. It's the way you move on the ice, the way you outmaneuver opponents. You have a certain... finesse."
Mitch's heart skips a beat, and he can't help but return Auston's flirtatious energy. "Finesse, huh? I guess I could say the same about you, Auston. The way you handle that stick... it's impressive."
Auston chuckles, a hint of a blush spreading across his cheeks. "Is that so? Well, I'm glad you appreciate my stick handling skills, Mitch. But let's save the compliments for after the game, shall we?"
Their eyes lock, the playful banter laden with underlying tension. The locker room noise fades away as they become lost in the moment, the chemistry between them palpable.
Mitch smirks. "Oh, definitely. After the game, I'll make sure to give you a private performance."
Auston's lips curl into a seductive smile. "I'll hold you to that, Marner."
Just as their flirty exchange reaches its peak, their coach's voice booms across the locker room, snapping them back to reality.
"Alright, boys, enough chit-chat! It's time to hit the ice!"
Mitch and Auston share a knowing look before they straighten up, ready to focus on the game ahead. But the spark of their shared moment lingers, promising much more to come.

mmm, icing - mitch marner
notes: i hope you guys like this, second fic for 'it's the most wonderful time of the year', love mitch, and i love this!
likes are good, reblogs are better <3
part of naqia's end of the year celly!
gif not mine
"mitchell marner, don't tell me you put your finger in the icing specifically after i told you not to," you placed your hands on your hips.
slowly, mitch pulled his finger out of the bowl, licking it clean, "okay. i won't tell you."
you narrowed your eyes at his smug expression, unable to help the small smile that creeped up on your own face.
"since someone can't be trusted with this, it's going in the fridge until we need it," you decided, picking up the bowl of icing and placing it in the fridge.
"look what you did, zeus," mitch shook his head at his dog.
"don't blame zeusy for your actions," you defended the dog. "he's nothing but an angel."
"well of course he's an angel, he takes after his dad."
"stop talking."
"gladly."
you rolled your eyes, laughing to yourself as you pulled up a recipe for sugar cookies. it was a rare day off for mitch -- one where he had no training or game -- and you'd decided to try and bake some sugar cookies.
"okay, i need you to get the flour," you listed the ingredients, allowing mitch to move around the kitchen and grab them.
that was one good thing about baking with your boyfriend. he would gladly run around as your little henchman while you mixed together the ingredients.
you made a good team.
as mitch collected the items, you began mixing them together. you hummed along to the christmas music that mitch had turned on.
mitch grabbed one of the spatulas as you mixed the flour, singing loudly.
"but the fire is so delightful," he sung, using the spatula as a microphone. "and since we've no place to go, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!"
you rolled together the dough as mitch continued singing and dancing. zeus danced across the floor, excited to be a part of this. mitch laughed, playing with him.
"here, you wanna make the shapes with me?" you asked, holding up the cookie cutters.
"that's not even a question," he answered, taking the reindeer one from your hand.
the two of you made cookies in all different shapes, already planning on how to decorate them. once the last of the dough was used up, you propped the cookies in the oven and turned the timer on.
"mitchell marner, you better not be reaching for the icing," you threatened, fixing the timer.
there was a silent pause, before mitch answered, "what makes you say that?"
you turned around, finding him about to open the fridge door and motioned, "uh... that!"
"oh yeah," he grinned, leaving the fridge and making his way towards you. "it's not what it looks like."
"oh really?" you asked, putting your arms around his neck as he placed his hands on your waist. "then what was that? because it looked like you were trying to get into the fridge while i wasn't looking so that you could eat the icing. the icing that we need to ice the cookies we're baking."
"okay, maybe it's exactly what it looks like," he muttered.
you laughed, burying your head in mitch's neck.
you didn't realize sugar cookies were going to cause this much chaos. but still, you wouldn't trade it for anything.

Yellow | M. Marner
Pairing: Mitch Marner x f!reader
word count: 0.6k
warnings: none! pure fluff
requested: yes
not my gif!
Laying on the roof of Mitch’s place in the summer had to be your favorite activity, seeing the stars shining above.
“Look at the stars, see how they shine for you.” He hummed quietly beside you, no longer staring at the sky but at you instead. Turning to listen to him, you caught him staring, covering the both of you in a quick blush.
“And everything you do.” you continued, waiting for him to carry on.
He mumbled something incoherent so you let out a ‘hmm?’ at his odd little sound. Making him groan before repeating his previous statement.
“I don’t know the lyrics.” he mumbled, voice muffled now by your shoulder that he shoved his head into. You laughed at his dramatics.
“It’s okay, Mitchy. I still love you the same.”
Those words didn’t seem to comfort him at all, more to make him wither away. Sliding further away from you on the roof before sighing.
“What’s wrong? Did I say something?” your questions filled the air, a sinking feeling filling you when he moved away.
“Nothing, nothing’s wrong.” he mumbled, sitting his arms on his knees, his face in his hands.
“It’s not nothing if you're acting like this.” you pushed, making him groan again.
“I love you, okay?”
“I love you too Mitch…?” your voice wavered with confusion.
“Not in a best friend way, in a way that everyone tells me i look at you as if you hung the moon. You wouldn’t believe how many times I’ve heard ‘dude, she's got you whipped’. The way I think everything good in the world is for you, the way that I believe all the stars shine at night just for you.” he confession was rushed, not breathing the entire way through.
“Oh, Mitchy.” you cooed, sliding closer to him again, wrapping your arms around him. “I love you too.”
He wasted no time as he heard the words, turning you to be laying on your back, him overtop. Kissing your lips fast, making you dizzy. He wasn’t rough but he wasn’t gentle, conveying years of love into a kiss.
“I’ve wanted to do that for years.” he mumbled against your lips, before pushing his lips back onto yours.
When you pushed him away for air, lips swollen and hair messy, his eyes were clouded with a lustful haze.
“Slow down, Mitchy.” you giggled, wrapping your arms around him, tugging him down into a hug.
“You know I think you should learn the lyrics to the song now.” you whispered, making him perk up.
“Oh yeah?”
“Yeah.”
So he let you reach over for your phone, opening spotify to play the song. Yellow, playing through your phone quietly, filled the silence now. Mitch lay, listening to it avidly, you staring at him while he listened to every word. When the song ended he turned to you again.
“Your skin and bones, turn into something beautiful.”
You giggled, kissing his lips again, melting against him.
“You know i do really think that the stars shine for you.” he mumbled against your lips, before kissing you again.
“You’re such a sap!”
“You love me for it!”
“You’re right, I do.” you agreed, “But let’s go in, unless you want to sleep on the roof.”
“In my jeans? No way.” he was quick to get up, grabbing you with him.
“Mitch! Be careful!” you squealed, his antics scaring you slightly.
“Trust me I’ve got you.”
And he did, carrying you down off his roof and inside, laying you in his bed before quickly joining. Tucking you into his side, having the best sleep in each other's arms that night.

We listen and we don´t judge - Mitch Marner
summary: you convince Mitch to do the "we listen and we don´t judge" TikTok trend
pairing: Mitch Marner x female!reader
word count: 1.5k
warnings: none, just banter and sweetness
authors notes:
I wanted to wait to post the next thing, as to not run out of stuff by next week but I remembered this exists and that it´s one of my favorite pieces so I just had to share
---------------------------------------------------------
“Please baby… It´s fun, I promise!” you begged your boyfriend for the third time in probably 30 minutes. “Babe…” He sighs playfully annoyed. “Please, I know you have some stuff to say, this is your chance to say it.”
You had been trying to convince him to do the “we listen, and we don’t judge” trend from TikTok after you had been seeing it all over your for you page. Even though you usually weren’t really one to post your relationship on you TikTok.
Your account was more about “day in the life of an NHL girlfriend” or “get ready with me for my boyfriends hockey game” videos which the small following you had acquired loved, Mitch only showing up in the background occasionally, but this was something you really wanted to do with him.
“I´m bad at coming up with tings on the spot.” He tried as his next excuse. You rolled your eyes. “We both know that is not true.” A funny sounding scuff leaving his mouth, almost like he was offended by the accusation.
“How about we film it, but you can decide after if I post it?” A last attempt to convince him, not wanting to bother him with it for too long. A sigh left him again and you knew you got him on the hook. “Fine. But you have to give me five minutes to come up with a few things.”
You practically ran around the kitchen island and wrapped your arms around his neck in excitement. “You´re the best.” He rolled his eyes acting fake annoyed but placed a sweet kiss to your cheek.
He retrieved to the living room with his phone to write some stuff down while you searched for the perfect place to film. Zeus, ever the loyal dog, stayed by your side, his tail wiggling in excitement for no reason at all. “We´ve got dad wrapped around our fingers and paws, Zeusy.” The lab barked in agreement.
“I heard that.” Mitch shouted from the living room. “You were supposed to!” You shot back immediately. Laughter filling the air shortly after.
A few minutes later you followed Mitch into the living room, Zeus hot on your heels but immediately jumping next to his dad when he saw him sitting on the couch. “Oh, now I´m good enough for you.” He chuckled and softly petted the labs head.
“Are you done?” He nodded. You placed your phone against a vase you grabbed from the kitchen and put it on the living room table. “Is this angle good enough for you?” Mitch huffed, mischief glinting in his eyes.
You knew he had nothing to really truly complain about, your relationship one built on trust and open communication, when something was bothering either of you, you mostly just talked about it, but this showed you there was something up his sleeve that you didn’t know about.
“Are you ready?” He grabbed his phone, opening the notes app again. “Let´s go.”
You pressed record on the device and held back laughter when Mitch looked at you with the most serious expression. “You go first.” You said, curious about what he came up with.
“We listen and we don’t judge, sometimes when I tell you I didn’t answer your call because I didn’t see it, it´s actually because I ignored it because I didn’t want to answer it in front of the guys.” Your eyes widen in surprise, laughter immediately bubbling out of you. “How dare you.” You threw in between two breaths, still laughing.
“You´re scared to answer the phone in front of the guys, that´s so sweet, honey.” You leaned over and softly patted his cheek, knowing this clip would be sent to the girls group chat later so they could show it to their partners.
“You´re not the one getting chirped.” He mumbled which led to another fit of laughter bubbling up. “You´re acting like you´re the only person on the team with a partner.”
He rolled his eyes and waved you off. “I thought this was we listen, and we don´t judge. Let´s hear yours.”
“We listen and we don’t judge, one time I threw away one of Zeus favorite toys, because it was really past it´s living time, and told you he probably lost it.” He ripped open his eyes and grabbed his chest like he just had been shot right in the heart.
“How can you do this to our child.”
“We don’t judge, Mitchy.” He raised his eyebrows, silently accusing you of doing the exact same just a few minutes ago.
“Okay your turn again.” You rushed out before he could say anything else. “We listen and we don’t judge, you once asked me to do laundry while you were on a girls trip, and I had to call Aryne to tell me what temperature and program to use.”
“Oh my god, Mitch.” You clapped your hands over your mouth. He chuckled, rubbing his neck. “I´m giving you a crash course on our washing machine as soon as we´re finished here, I can’t believe this.” You almost shouted before breaking into a fit of giggles.
“Let´s hear your next one then.” He interrupted you, not wanting to talk about this any longer. “We listen and we don’t judge.” You said, holding your hands in front of your mouth, before whispering: “Sometimes I cheer for the Flames when you´re not here.”
Mitch ripped open his mouth and turned further towards you with wide eyes. “Baby… please tell me that is a joke…” When you said nothing, he looked even more offended. “You cannot put this on the internet… what will the people say if my own girlfriend doesn’t root for the team I am playing for. That should be a punishable offence.”
“We don’t judge, remember? And what can I say, I will always be a Calgarian at heart no matter if I’m living in Toronto now. Or if my boyfriend plays for the Leafs. And it´s not like I´m rooting for them when they actually play you.”
He continued to look at you as if you had kicked his dog. “You´ll live, baby.” You said as you pat his cheek like he was a child that was upset about nothing.
“Okay, last one I could come up with in the five minutes you gave me.” He grabbed one of the decorative pillows and placed it in front of him like a shield. You raised your eyebrows at him but said nothing urging him to continue.
“We listen and we don’t judge. I use your face wash regularly and that´s why it´s always empty so much faster.” He gripped the pillow and held it in front of his face right as you swatted him in the shoulder with the back of your hand.
“Mitch, that´s expensive skincare, you can afford to buy your own.” Teasing was clear in your voice. It didn’t actually matter to you that he was using it. Especially, since most of the time he ended up being the one to pay for it. But acting fake outraged was fun. “I will go and buy you skincare for men next week when you´re on the road.”
He lowered the pillow again, hoping you were done attacking him, but you ripped it right out of his hand and smacked it into his face. The offended look on his face that waited for you when the pillow fell down on the soft carpet of your living room made you burst out in a loud belly laugh.
“You´re the worst. I´m breaking up with you.” He pouted, his voice making you laugh even harder. “Okay, it was nice knowing you. I´m taking Zeus.” You teased. Which made him pout even more.
It took you five minutes to calm down after that, whenever you remembered the look on his face you broke out in another set of giggles.
You would have to edit that out later but would keep as a memory because the pained look that slowly turned into an incredibly loving and soft glance as you kept laughing was something you wanted to keep forever.
“Okay I have one last one. When you´re done pouting.” He sat up straight, giving you his full attention again before you continued. “We listen and we don’t judge, sometimes, when you play on the West Coast, I go to bed before the game even starts because I´m so exhausted from work.”
You expected him to be fake outraged again, but he just looked at you with the sweetest expression you could imagine, you heart immediately melting. “That´s okay, honey. I know how exhausting your job can be.”
You were overwhelmed with the sweetness this man gave you sometimes. “Oh, Mitch.” You said quietly scooting closer to him to wrap your arms around his shoulders.
“What? Did you expect me to be outraged about that? I know how hard you work, there´s 82 games a season that you can watch, missing one is not the end of the world.” He placed a lingering kiss to your cheek.
The tender action having you get up and startle his lap before leaning down to capture his lips in a soft kiss. “You´re the sweetest.”
When you backed away again, remembering that the camera was still rolling in the background he grabbed your chin and pulled you down into another kiss.
“You might have to edit that out.” He brushed hair, that fell into your face while kissing, away and smiled. “So, you will let me post this?”
He chuckled. “As if I could ever say no to you.”

[ my little secret ] m. knies
paring : Matthew Knies x fem!reader
summary : Matthew and his girlfriend accidentally expose their entire eight month relationship after he gets hurt during a game, and Mitch isn't very happy about it
warning(s) : angst galore (but w a happy ending), mentions of injury, injured!kniesy, occasional use of y/n
author’s note : wanted to write something angsty and decided to knock out a request at the same time. enjoy and sorry this request took so long <33
༺═──────────────═༻
The game is going okay. Right now, the Leafs are up 2-1 against rival Boston. Her brother has assists on both Toronto goals while Matthew scored the go-ahead goal about halfway through the third. The Leafs defense is playing great defense and blocking shots from the Bruins. The forwards are keeping Boston from getting any momentum when they hop over the boards for each shift.
This is probably the best the Leafs have looked all season against a surging Boston team that struggled at the beginning of the season.
It's not long after Matthew scores the go-ahead goal that Boston begins to show some frustration. Their physical players begin to get a little more physical, laying more hits on the Leafs players. The Leafs are taking those hits like champs and some are returning the same physicality.
Until Brad Marchand lays a hard hit on Matt and he lands awkwardly on his outstretched arm. Her boyfriend curls up on the ice around the arm he landed on and a whistle is blown. A member of the training staff is immediately on the ice to look at Matthew.
She stands up with the crowd around her, hands covering her mouth as she waits for Matt to stand up. The crowd at Scotiabank Arena is so quiet, she should hear a pin drop from the other side of the stands.
It feels like an eternity later when Matt gets up on his own. The crowd claps for him, but she's too focused on the fact that he's holding his left arm close to his body. Mitch skates right behind him with his stick, which is hands to the equipment manager while Matthew goes down the tunnel.
With about five minutes left in the period and the Leafs up in the game, she makes her way down to the hallway that contains the in-arena gym, locker room, equipment room, and the athletic training room where Matt probably is.
She shows her credentials before she's let into the hallway. The horn on the ice sounds and the crowd cheers, signaling either a goal or a Leafs win. She's not sure how much time has gone by by the time she is standing outside the training room door.
After knocking lightly, she pushes open the door a little bit to get a look at her boyfriend. She sees Matthew on one of the tables half undressed. He only has on his shorts, socks, and skates. His gear is on the floor with his jersey and compression shirt.
The doctor notices her before Matt does. "Sorry, but you can't be he-"
"It's fine," Matt winces as the doctor presses on his wrist. "She's here for me anyway. Come on in, (Y/N)."
She steps into the medical room and walks up to Matt on the table. His doctor keeps pressing on and examining his wrist. He has Matt wiggle his fingers, tests his wrist flexion, and he finds the most painful points.
All while Matt winces in pain. A second horn goes off and the crowd above them cheers. The song that usually plays after a Leafs win starts to play, which means the boys will be making their way back to the locker room any second.
"Well, good news is that your wrist isn't broken," the doctor explains to Matt. "But I do think you have a mild sprain. I'd like to get scans done in the morning to confirm."
"And how long will I be out?" Matt asks.
"With rest and recovery, two weeks minimum," his doctor replies. "If you come back too early, it could be longer so I suggest staying off the ice until I clear you to return to practice. We'll come back and reassess a week from tomorrow once I confirm the sprain then come up with a plan to return to play. Until then, rest. I'll give you a brace you can use for the next few days."
Matt nods and the doctor walks off to find a brace that he'll use for a while. She intertwines her fingers with his as soon as the doctor has his back turned to them. He looks up at her with big, sad eyes. She frowns at the sight of a sad Matthew Knies.
This is a risky moment for both of them given where they're at, but she couldn't help but touch him and show him that she's here for him since she can't say anything right now. Not with the team doctor ten feet away from them.
The doctor turns around and she pulls their fingers apart. Matt holds out his injured wrist so the doctor can show him how to put the brace on. "How does it feel?" he asks Matt. "Not too snug?"
"Nope," he replies. "Comfortable."
"Good," the doctor says. "I want to see you back here in the morning for some x-rays and other tests to rule out breaks or internal damage. Okay?"
Matt nods and the doctor claps him on the back. He leaves the room, probably to go tell the coaching staff about his injury. Matt sighs and reaches to grab his compression shirt when he hops off the table.
She glances at the door to make sure no one walks in before she pulls Matthew into a hug by his torso once his shirt is on.
"I'm so sorry you got hurt, Matty," she softly says into his chest. "That hit looked bad. It could've been so much worse. I'm so glad it wasn't."
"I'm still benched for at least a week," Matt sighs. He runs his fingers through her wavy locks before he cradles her head against his body. "I'll be staying here while the boys go out on that west coast roadie. I was looking forward to some California sun after a few inches of snow over the weekend."
There's a hint of amusement in his voice, but she doesn't find it very funny. She peels her face off his chest and looks up at him. "It's not funny, Matthew," she tells him. "You got hurt. You avoided what may have been a season ending injury, but you still got hurt. None of this is very funny to me, and you're cracking jokes about missing out on the California sun."
He realizes what his words were and quickly becomes apologetic. "I'm sorry, baby," he says. "No injury is funny, even one as minor as mine."
"I thought you were really hurt, Matty," she admits. "When you were down on the ice. I thought that something was broken or torn while you were lying there. What if this was worse than a wrist sprain and you were making jokes about missing games?"
Matthew's healthy hand slides to cup her face. He rubs his thumb along her cheekbone and frowns. "I'm okay," he whispers to her. "I'm okay. Nothing is torn or broken or dislocated. It's just a sprain. It's not season ending and I'll be back on the ice in a week. It just sucks that I'm out at all."
She presses her face back into his chest and he engulfs her in a hug. He buries his head into her hair and presses a kiss to her temple. "You're okay," she echoes. "Thank God you're okay."
He softly hums into her hair. She looks up at him at the same time he tilts her head up. Matthew leans down since his skates give him a little extra inches to his six-foot-three frame. Their lips meet in a soft kiss when she gets on her tiptoes. Her hands grasp at his shorts to give her some stablity.
They stand like that longer than they probably should, but she can't help but kiss him. All her anxiety about the last fifteen minutes melt away the longer the kiss goes.
The door opens and she hears her brother's voice. "How you doing in here, Kniesy?" Mitch questions. They both jump away from each other and look at Mitch, who stops in his tracks when he sees his little sister in the training room with his teammate. "(Y/N), why are you-- with Matthew? Kissing Matthew?"
She quickly looks between her brother and her boyfriend. "I, um ..." she trails off. Then Mitch angrily starts toward the two of them with a look in his eyes that she's seen before when the two of them caught an ex cheating on her. "Mitchy, stop." She tries to push against him with little success.
"My little sister?" Mitch asks as he shoves Matthew. "Are you kidding me?" Matt stumbles backward a little bit since he's still in his skates. She grabs at Mitch's t-shirt to try and stop him, but he overpowers her for a second time.
"Mitch," she tries again. "Enough. I'm an adult. I'm allowed to be with whoever I want to be with."
Mitch looks back at her. "This is my teammate, (Y/N)," he tells her. "My goddamn linemate most games, and you're in here kissing him? He's one of my closest friends and you're, what, hooking up with him behind my back?"
"It's not like that-" Matthew tries to say.
"And you," Mitch interrupts. "My little fucking sister. I trusted you and you go and do something like this? Are you actually kidding me? God, I can't believe you. Either of you. Do you know how embarrassing this is for me? That my sister and one of my teammates snuck around my best for who knows how long. Snuck around at my house, my second home."
She looks at Matt, who looks genuinely terrified of what's happening right now. "Mitch, can you listen to me for a second before you start talking about something you know nothing about?" she asks. "There is a lot more to this story than you think."
Her brother rubs his face and shakes his head. "I don't think there's anything you can tell me that I don't already know-"
"I am in love with him, Mitch!" she shouts. "We're not just hooking up or anything like that. We're actually together. I love him and he loves me. If you would listen instead of assuming things then you'd know that."
It looks like someone slapped her brother across the face when she admits to him that she loves Matt. His eyes widen and his jaw goes slack. He looks between the two of them. She takes a few steps backward so she's standing beside her boyfriend while her eyes stay on Mitch.
Mitch blinks at them for a second before he says, "I need a little bit. I just need a second before we continue this conversation because I'm beyond angry and feeling very betrayed right now. Do what the two of you want because you're going to do it anyway but please do not talk to me while I'm on this roadie. Okay?"
They both nod and Mitch turns to walk out of the room. She lets out the breath that she was holding before she looks up at Matthew, who has color in his face again.
"We should've told him when we got together," Matt tells her without looking at her. "He's right. He's one of my closest friends and he's my linemate on the ice. I shouldn't have messed with that chemistry. It might affect our on ice performance, which is going to mess with the whole team's performance. Oh my God."
"Matthew," she sighs as she steps in front of him. "Hey. I made that choice too. He's my brother and I thought he'd get angrier if we told him at first. These eight months have shown us that we love each other and that I want this forever. If we told him at first, it wouldn't have given us that chance. I don't regret not telling him because we had that time to ourselves to figure us out. I'll talk to him when he gets back from the roadie and it'll be okay. I promise."
He nods. "I need to go get changed then we can go," he tells her. "Wish me luck that he doesn't throw any of his gear at me in the locker room."
"You have my full permission to throw something back at him."
∘₊✧──────✧₊∘
The week and a half that the roadie takes feels like forever. All she can do is watch her brother enter a slump while on the west coast. She respects his wishes and doesn't text or call him while he's on the road, but it's one of the hardest things she's ever had to do.
Matthew gets clears to go non-contact on the ice eight days after the initial injury. Brad Marchand was given a two game suspension and a large fine for intent to injure. At least, that's what the NHL Department of Player Safety announced the day after his hit on Matt. She sits at the Leafs practice building while she watches Matt work on some stickhandling and skating drills by himself.
It's two weeks after the game versus Boston when Mitch reaches out to his little sister.
from: big bro mitchy <3 - 3:09 pm can i come over ? to talk. i think im ready to talk
to: big bro mitchy <3 - 3:11 pm yeah. matt's here too, if that's okay
He doesn't respond, but she lets Matt know that Mitch is coming over to her apartment. They both sit on the couch when a knock announces Mitch's arrival.
She opens the door and Mitch walks into the apartment without a greeting. She's on his heels when he walks into the living room. Matt stands up to face Mitch.
"You better treat her right, Knies," Mitch tells him. She blinks in total confusion. "I mean it, Matt. If I find out that you hurt her in any way, I'll put your ass back on IR faster than you can blink. Got it?" He nods in response. "Now, can I have a few minutes alone with my sister? I have some things I need to say to her and I don't need you in the room while I do."
Matt quickly disappears down the hallway to her bedroom. The door distantly clicks shut and Mitch turns to her. She stands straight up as she faces her brother.
They look at each other for a second before she concedes first. "I am so sorry that neither of us told you about our relationship," she says. "But I'm going to tell you that I don't regret not telling you. Matt and I needed some time to figure out how we work together before we told anyone. Then we were together longer and longer and we thought you would be so mad that we didn't tell you-"
"Oh, I'm mad alright," Mitch interrupts her. "I mean, there are millions of people in the Toronto area that you could've started a relationship with. There are hundreds of players in the league itself and you chose to enter a relationship with my linemate of all people."
"You're angry because I'm dating someone on your team? she asks. "Of all the reasons to be angry, you're mad because I fell in love with Matt? Mitch, that's you're fault. You're the one that introduced us because Matt was a rookie in a big city and I'm about as old as he is. You thought that we could lean on each other since I also had just moved to Toronto to pursue a career."
"I didn't think you'd date him," Mitch retorts. "Let alone fall in love with him."
She rolls her eyes. "I can't help who I fall in love with and you should know that," she spits at him.
Mitch sighs and rubs his face. "I'm just trying to look out for you," he tells her. "You're my little sister."
"And he's one of your closest friends so you should know what kind of guy he is," she replies. "I'm 23, Mitch. I don't need you looking out for me. Believe me when I say that I very hesitantly started a relationship with Matt because I know how hockey players can be. He quickly showed me that he's not like other hockey players. He genuinely loves me, more than any of my previous boyfriends ever have."
Her brother frowns at her. "I just wish I could have watched you fall in love," he explains. "And know you were falling in love. I only find out you're in love and in a very serious relationship months later. I don't want to know how many months later but months later. It sucks not being able to watch my little sister grow up and find love until after."
Okay, she never thought of it like that. She never thought that it took away an opportunity for Mitch to watch her grow up a little bit, or find love. He was there for all her other relationships. Why not this one?
"I'm sorry, Mitchy," she softly tells him. "I really am. I don't want you to be mad because this is the best relationship I've ever been in. I'm sorry I took away watching me fall in love, but I didn't want to fall in love under the close eye of my older brother. Especially not when my boyfriend is his teammate. I needed to find me and how I worked with Matt. That's it. That's why neither of us told you."
He wraps his arms around her shoulders and envelopes her in a hug. She sighs and wraps his arms around his torso. "I could never be mad at you for very long," he admits. "I needed some time to think about what I was going to say to you when I calmed down. I didn't want to say something I might regret. I get why neither of you told me now."
"We wanted to so many times but it was never the right time," she says. "We were going to say something before the end of last season, then you were so focused on playoffs that we couldn't. Then the Boston series happened, and that wasn't the best time either. Then it was the offseason and we decided to wait even longer. Then this season started and it never seemed like the best time because the two of you had some great on ice chemistry. So we waited and waited until it was too late and it never felt like the right time."
Her brother backs away the hug and looks her in the eyes. "I don't want you to ever not tell me something because you think hockey is in the way," he sternly tells her. "I mean it. You're way more important than hockey will ever be. If you have something to tell me, then tell me next time, okay?"
She nods in response. "Got it," she softly says.
"By the way, I kind of knew something was up with you because you were around a lot more often than you were before," Mitch admits. "But you were always wearing my jersey so I thought it was because you really liked watching hockey. I had no idea it was because you were dating Matt. It makes sense looking back on it now."
A laugh passes her lips before she can stop it. "Hate to break it to you but it was because of Matt," she tells him. "I didn't wear his jersey because that would've meant telling you, which neither of us were ready for."
Mitch smiles at her. "I know," he says. "You look happy. I've never seen you this happy or in love before. It looks good on you, little sister."
"Thank you, big brother," she replies. "Can Matt come out now or are you going to give him the big brother talk?"
"Oh, I'll give that to him in the locker room," he laughs. "I'll tell you that you're allowed to wear his jersey now since I know. You've probably wanted to wear it before so you can now."
"Awesome," she says. "I've worn your jersey for too long. It's Matt's turn."
Footsteps echo down the hallway before they emerge into the living room. "I wasn't eavesdropping or anything but I heard that I could come out," Matt's voice says behind her. She turns her head and looks at her boyfriend. "Are we okay?"
Mitch walks up to her boyfriend and Matt sharply inhales. Her older brother holds out his hand. "We're good," he tells his linemate. "We're going to have our own talk though because that is my little sister you are involved with."
"Understood," Matt replies.
With a huge smile on her face, she runs up to Matt and wraps herself around his torso. "My favorite boys are friends again," she says as she looks up at Matt. "And you're no longer my little secret."
"I better be the first person you tell when you put a ring on her finger, Knies," Mitch warns. "Or bad things will happen."
"I'll come to you and ask for your permission to marry her if it'll make you feel better," Matt replies. "When we eventually get to that point."
"Good," her brother says. "I'll get out of your hair. I just wanted to come talk to you guys for a second. I'm going out with Steph for an early dinner but I didn't want you guys to think I hated you."
The boys give their version of a hug goodbye. Mitch presses a kiss to her temple before leaving. She looks at Matt.
"Feel better?" she asks. "Knowing it's not going to mess with your on ice chemistry now?"
"A little."
"What will help you feel even better?"
"I think you already know." Matt takes a step backward down the hall that leads to her bedroom.
She grins. "I like the way you think, Kniesy."

"promise not to get mad at me?" was the first thing stephanie said as she walked through the door of the apartment she shared with her best friend. y/n looked up from her computer with a raised eyebrow.
"what did you do?"
"how do you feel about hockey games?"
"can't stand them. why? what did you do?" she repeated, getting up from her chair and walking over to her best friend.
"we're going to the toronto game tonight."
"and i repeat. what did you do?"
"i was at the coffee shop and i ran into this really cute guy. we talked for hours and he's so sweet. asked me to go on a date with him after his game tonight."
"oh that's great. congratulations."
"but there's a catch."
"oh god. what do i have to do?"
"his best friend is single and so are you so i figured you could tag along since his friend is going to be there too."
"give me one good reason i should, steph." y/n walked into the kitchen to make her lunch. stephanie followed her quickly and clasped her hands together.
"please come with me. i think this guy might be the one. like, for real this time."
"you're lucky i love you and believe you deserve the best."
"does that mean you'll come to the game and the date?"
"let's just see how the game goes first."
"yay. we need to dress really good." steph smirked and dragged y/n into her closet, the lunch completely forgotten.
that night, y/n met mitch and was amazed at how good he treated stephanie, even though they had only met each other a few hours earlier. his best friend, however, was not as great. he did try, but it was easy to tell that he didn't want to be there.
and it only got worse from there.
over time, they both developed a mutual disinterest in each other.
and here they were, a few years later, helping their two best friends plan a wedding.
it was very obvious from the beginning that mitch and stephanie were meant to be together so it was no surprise to anyone when mitch approached y/n to ask for her help with the proposal. he had already gotten her parents approval but he knew that her best friends approval meant a whole lot to her too. he respected their relationship and treated them both well.
the only thing that mitch did that y;/n didn't like was asking stephanie to move in with him. it left y/n alone in their apartment and it felt weird. mitch had suggested that auston move in, in place f stephanie, but y/n quickly shot that idea down. she would rather live alone than live with auston.
as the two girls sat in the kitchen of mitch's house, zeus was resting his head on y/n's lap. she stroked his ear and listened to the plans stephanie wanted for the wedding.
"i'm really honored you chose me to be your maid of honor. but do i have to dance with the best man?"
"i know you and auston despise each other but it's a tradition in my family that the best man and maid of honor share the dance after the married couples first dance."
"i know." y/n sighed. "i'll do it but i won't be happy about it."
"oh thank god. mitch and i were worried we'd have to break tradition."
"i would never allow that." y/n smiled and stood up. zeus tilted his head slightly and gave her a look. "maybe i should dance with zeus instead. he's so much cuter and he actually likes me."
"that would be cute, but it's-"
"tradition. yeah i know." y/n smiled. "how did auston react when mitch told him?"
"i think he's telling him after practice today," stephanie checked her phone. "which should be over right about now."
"i hope he has the same reaction."
over at the arena, mitch and auston were the last two out of the locker room. mitch sent stephanie a text and looked over at auston.
"hey, there's something i need to tell you about the wedding."
"what is it?"
"after steph and i have our first dance, there's a tradition in her family that follows that. the best man and the maid of honor have to dance together too."
"meaning i have to dance with y/n? seriously?""
"sorry man but it's tradition. you can put aside your hatred for one night, can't you?"
"i can promise to try but i can't promise a success."
"that's good enough for me." mitch chuckled and got to his car. "you coming over for dinner? the girls are making meatloaf."
"yeah sure. why not?" auston got in his car and followed mitch to his house. he completely ignored the fact that y/n was going to be there.
the next few days were spent learning how to dance properly. auston and y/n barely made it through without killing each other, but at least they were ready for the big day.
when it arrived, y/n and stephanie were in the room with the rest of the bridal party. the hairdresser finished the last touches on stephanie's hair and she turned around.
"so, how do i look?"
"you look like a princess. mitch is going to cry." y/n smiled and wiped a tear from her own eye. "gosh, you're so lucky. mitch is probably the last good guy on earth."
"he's the best." stephanie looked in the mirror and smiled. "i love him so much. i knew from the moment i met him that this day would happen."
"i knew too. he was the sweetest." y/n smiled. "if you guys ever have kids, that child is going to be blessed with the best genes ever."
"you and auston are good looking too. and if you guys ever get over yourselves and get together to have a child, it's going to be just as beautiful as you guys."
"we're never getting together."
"i want us to have babies around the same time so they can be best friends too."
"i can try to give you that wish. but it's not going to be with auston."
"okay. as long as i get a niece or nephew to love like crazy."
"i love you, steph." y/n pulled her best friend in for a hug before there was knock on the door. auston poked his head in and covered his eyes.
"you ladies ready?"
"auston, you can uncover your eyes." stephanie giggled and shook her head, shooting a look at y/n. "let's go."
one by one, the bridesmaids made their way to stand next to the groomsmen they were paired with. when y/n walked out with stephanie, auston couldn't keep his eyes from roaming y/n's body. the dress fit her so well and her hair was styled perfectly.
'is she not wearing any makeup? holy crap. i don't think i've ever seen her wear any. has she been this perfect the whole time?' he found himself thinking. he shook the thought from his head and took his spot next to her.
"damn, matthews. you really clean up well, don't you?" y/n nudged him with her elbow and he was suddenly at a loss for words. "what's the matter? cat got your tongue? no funny remark?"
"no. sorry." he let out a breath. "thank you for the compliment. you, um, look really good too."
"i know i do." y/n smirked. "but thank you. that's the nicest thing you've ever said to me."
"it can't be." auston looked at her and ran through their history in his mind. "okay. maybe that's true. and i'm sorry for that."
"you are forgiven, matthews." y/n watched as the pairs in front of them made their way out to where they needed to be. she linked her arm up with auston's, wished stephanie good luck and followed the man outside. they stopped at the end of the aisle and went to their designated locations. "you look great, mitchy." she whispered to mitch before taking her spot.
the music started and everyone stood up. when stephanie and her dad walked out, y/n glanced over at mitch. she had only seen him cry twice before in the few years she had known him. this was the third time she had seen tears in his eyes. he tried to hide it but when he looked over at y/n, he smiled.
as the minister went through the normal ceremony, auston kept looking over at y/n. she was watching the interactions between stephanie and mitch so intently, wiping away a tear or two every few seconds. auston was in complete awe of her.
at the reception, stephanie and mitch had the traditional first dance and when that was over, auston was more than eager to make his way to the dance floor. he and y/n took their places and began to dance
as they moved to the music, y/n looked up at auston.
"have you been practicing on your free time?"
"no, i swear. maybe you just make me a better dancer." he shrugged and moved her around the dance floor effortlessly.
"what's gotten into you tonight, matthews?"
"i think it's all the love in the air." he smiled.
"never would've pegged you for a romantic guy. no offence."
"none taken. i didn't expect it from myself either honestly." he spun her around a few times and when the song ended, so did their moment.
everyone else came to the dance floor to do their thing and y/n walked to the table to sit for a minute. stephanie was sitting beside her with a smile.
"auston is so into you."
"no he's not."
"oh please. i heard what he said before the wedding started. he was genuinely complimenting you. there was no hint of lying in his voice."
"he claims it's the love being in the air. i don't know what else to tell you."
even as y/n spoke those words, she couldn't bring herself to believe them. maybe stephanie was right and auston really was into her. she scanned the room and found him with mitch in the middle of the dance floor. they were having the time of their lives and y/n couldn't help but smile.
auston could feel someone watching him so when he looked up and locked eyes with y/n, he winked at her. she turned away shyly and sipped her drink. he thought it was cute.
y/n could feel her cheeks heating up and she hated it. she didn't like the way auston was suddenly making her feel. looking down at her now empty glass, she decided to blame it on the alcohol in her system, and as auston put it, the love in the air.
halfway through the reception, y/n was beginning to really feel the alcohol. the thing about that was it made her act differently and her voice of reason flew out the window whenever she drank.
as she downed her drink yet again, she found herself making her way to where auston was leaning against the wall. he noticed her approach him and he finished his drink.
"hey. what are you doing all alone over here? you should be having some fun. trying to pick up a girl or two." y/n giggled. why did it feel like her stomach was in knots?
"honestly, nobody here is really catching my eye." his eyes roamed the room before landing back on y/n. "might just call it a night."
"no don't." y/n sounded too eager to get him to stay so she backtracked her outburst. "i mean, it's your best friends wedding and you're the best man. you can't leave." y/n shyly looked down at her shoes.
"okay, i'll stay. but first, you gotta tell me why you hate me so much."
"what are you talking about? i hate you because on the night we met, you decided right away that you didn't like me."
"what gave you that impression?" he chuckled dryly.
"you were grumpy and it was very obvious you didn't want to be there. you put no effort into getting to know me. but i don't understand why you were grumpy. you scored the game winning goal in overtime, not to mention you had the only hat trick the entire game. that should've made you a little happier. you were so good that night. i remember telling steph 'wow. that matthews kid is really good.' like i was very impressed. and then we met and i thought you were really cute. but you had to ruin it by opening your mouth."
"you thought i was cute?"
"why do you hate me?"
"i don't. never did. i jsut really didn't want to be put on a blind double date. i hate blind dates."
"i hate them too. and i was only there as a favor to steph."
"i was only there for mitch. he was telling me during practice that he thought he met the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with and he wanted me to meet her & make sure she wasn't a serial killer or crazy in anyway."
"and look at them now. kinda crazy how they both knew right away, huh?"
"yeah. but i think it's sweet." auston looked down at her and smiled. forgetting for a second that he hated her. "i'm really happy for them though. they're good for each other."
"i agree." y/n grabbed a glass off a passing waiters tray and drank half of it in one gulp.
"do you think you'll find the person you want to spend your life with?"
"i'd like to think i will & i'm hoping it's soon. but with my luck in love, it'll probably never happen." y/n sighed. "how about you? think you'll meet her soon?"
"honestly, i think i may have already met her."
oh. well that's good." y/n looked down at her feet. "wanna dance? reception's almost over and i feel like we should get at least one more dance in, just to make the newlyweds happy." she gestured to their right where mitch and steph were dancing. they waved and danced away.
"sure. what harm can it do?"
the two of them walked out onto the dance floor and just as they were getting into the beat of the song, it ended and a new slow song started. y/n froze and looked at auston. he grabbed her hands and placed them where they needed to be before he guided her across the dance floor.
they locked eyes and it suddenly felt like they were the only people around. to everyone but them, it was obvious there was an attraction between them.
when the song ended, y/n stayed with her arms around auston's neck as they swayed back and forth.
"so there's really nobody here that catches your eye?" y/n asked, bringing up part of their earlier conversation. she played with her thumbs behind his neck and one of them wrapped itself in a curl that was loose.
"actually, now that i've thought more about it, there may be one."
"wanna point her out? maybe i can talk you up to her."
"red dress, dark hair that's half up half down with curls, no makeup because she's literally perfect and doesn't need it. she's so perfect but she's dancing with the hottest guy here. i can't compete with that."
"one of those things describe steph. she's not wearing a red dress though, nor does she have dark hair. however, i am dancing with the hottest guy here."
"i know." auston smirked and twirled her around. when he pulled her back, he was holding her tighter. "you look so beautiful right now. and not just tonight. every night since the night i met you."
"auston, are you drunk?"
"maybe a little. but i'm coherent enough to know what i'm saying and i'm sober enough to tell you that i mean it."
"auston, please don't lie to me."
"why would i need to lie to you?" he looked down at her and y/n searched his eyes for a sign of him lying. there wasn't one. "i've always thought you were beautiful. gorgeous even. out of my league for sure. and i'm genuinely sorry that i never really said anything about it."
"please don't apologize. i wasn't exactly the nicest person to be around so that must've made it difficult for you."
"difficult, yes. but worth it? totally. 100% worth it."
"do you think that if mitch and steph hadn't dragged us both on that date that night, then maybe we would have a different history than the one we do?"
"what do you mean?"
"i mean, if they had invited us to a group thing instead and that's how we met, do you think that we could've been friends these last few years?"
"for sure." auston smiled. "and maybe, if we had been friends and i asked you on a proper date, you could've said yes."
"i think i would've." it was y/n's turn to smile. "but hey. we're both still young and have plenty of life left to live. why don't we go out tomorrow night?"
"that sounds like it could be fun." auston chuckled. "and just to be clear, it'll be just us, right? no one else."
"yes. just us."
"great. i'll pick you up at 8 then."
"it's a date." y/n smiled as auston spun her around.
the following night, y/n was getting ready for the date when stephanie facetimed her.
"oh, who you getting ready for?"
"believe it or not, i'm going on a date with auston."
"oh my god. finally!" mitch cheered from the other end of the phone. his face appeared on the screen and he was sporting a large smile. "i'm so tired of hearing him pine over you."
"you're exaggerating, mitchy." y/n shook her head. "how's the honeymoon you guys?"
"it's perfect. thanks for the suggestion." steph was back on the screen. "and thanks for agreeing to take care of zeus while we're gone."
"of course. i love zeus." y/n smiled and looked at the dog, whose head was resting on y/n's lap. "who's the bestest boy? you are. yes you are."
"have fun on your date, sweetie. make sure to tell me everything afterwards."
"always. see you guys later." y/n hung up the phone and finished doing her hair. "which dress should i wear zeus?" she held up a yellow dress and zeus tilted his head. she then held up a blue dress and he barked. "thank you, zeus." y/n changed quickly and looked at herself in the mirror. "what do you think?"
zeus barked and tilted his head.
"you're so cute." y/n grabbed her purse and walked to the door when she heard a knock. "okay, zeus. i'll be back in a few hours. there's plenty of food in your bowl and your treat ball is filled so you should be fine."
y/n opened the door and auston handed her a small bouquet of orange chrysanthemums, her favorite.
"how did you know?"
"i remember you telling mitch one day that you loved chrysanthemums and how your heart would be complete if someone ever gave you the orange ones specifically. i didn't know what the different colors meant but i did some research shortly after that night and i've wanted to give you a bouquet of orange ones ever since. delicate love, right?"
"yeah. exactly." she ventured into the kitchen to grab a vase and filled it with water. "i can't believe you even remembered that. i told him like 4 years ago."
"i know. um, you may not believe me but i had a list of all your favorite things. i don't have it now because i memorized it but i figured i'd let you know."
"auston, this is so uncharacteristic of you. but i appreciate the attentiveness. no guy has ever done anything like this for me before."
"i know. it's unfortunate but you deserve it. you deserve someone who is willing to treat you like a queen. someone who can't get you out of his head, even if he tried. because you are so perfect, it's crazy."
"auston?"
"hmm?"
"stop talking." y/n smiled and pecked his lips. "you are so sweet, matthews."
"hold on just a second." he kissed her again but this time it lasted longer than a simple peck. she wrapped her arms around his neck and his found a place resting gently on her waist. auston was the first to let go of the kiss but they were both smiling from ear to ear.
"no guy has ever kissed me like that before. wow." y/n smirked.
"well all the other guys have been really stupid. and i'm not ashamed to admit that i'm part of that list."
"you're also a lot smarter than all the other guys i've been interested in." y/n's hand reached up to rest against his cheek.
"has anyone ever told you how perfect you are?"
"you did last night while we were dancing." y/n smiled and looked into his eyes. "and for the record, you're pretty perfect too."
"does that mean we're....perfect together?"
"corny joke aside, i think we might be."
"good." he smirked and kissed her again. their date was pretty much forgotten at this point as y/n pulled him through her apartment and into the living room.
auston sat on the couch and held y/n's hips as she straddled him. she looked into his eyes and felt herself getting lost in them.
"just so you know, i never bring a guy home on the first date."
"i know. and technically, if you count the blind date when we met, this is technically our second date." he smirked in response.
"it was a disaster and i feel now that our relationship has crossed the friendship line, we should just forget about the night we met."
"deal." auston smiled and they sealed their deal with a kiss. several kisses to be exact.

I need to see the bruins fan meeting like Auston and Mitch for the first time since her and Willy started dating. I just knowwww it would be so fun. If you’re up to writing more of this I’ll ALWAYS have a request for you and your amazing writing skills
Well hello there, babe! 😉
Oh, you just know the chaos that would go down with a Bruins fan meeting Auston and Mitch for the first time—especially with poor Willy stuck in the middle 💕
But I had to sprinkle in some sweetness, too, because let’s be honest—our sweet angel Willy would be absolute pudding when he’s deeply in love with someone 🥹
I hope you enjoy this 🙏🏼
Tropes & Warnings: William Nylander x reader, enemies to lovers, rival teams, no warnings, just fluff and chirping
Word count: 1.9K
➼。゚
Rivals in Love - Friendly Fire I William Nylander
William had mentioned it so casually, like it wasn’t a big deal.
“So, Auston and Mitch want to meet you,” he said one evening over FaceTime, his tone so nonchalant it almost didn’t register.
You paused mid-sip of your tea, eyebrows shooting up. “Wait. What?”
“They’ve been asking about you,” he repeated, as though it was the most natural thing in the world. “I figured it’s about time you meet them.”
You groaned, setting your mug down. “And why, exactly, do Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner care about meeting me?”
He smirked, leaning back in his chair and looking far too pleased with himself. “Because they don’t believe me when I say I’m dating a Bruins fan. They think I’m lying.”
“Probably because it sounds ridiculous,” you muttered, trying to ignore the nerves building in your stomach. “So, what? They want to size me up? Make sure I’m not some undercover Leafs spy sent to sabotage your already questionable playoff chances?”
William laughed, shaking his head. “No, they’re just curious. And maybe a little excited to give me stick about it. But don’t worry—they’ll love you.”
“Uh-huh,” you deadpanned, already imagining the disaster this was bound to be.
The meeting was set for dinner at a trendy restaurant in Toronto, the sort of place with dim lighting and overpriced appetisers that made you wish you’d suggested a pub instead. You spent half the day debating what to wear, trying to find the perfect balance between “cool and confident” and “I’m totally fine meeting two of the most well-known hockey players in the league.”
When you finally arrived, William was already waiting outside, dressed in a fitted black jumper and dark jeans that made him look effortlessly put-together. His grin widened when he saw you, and he leaned down to kiss your cheek, his hand lingering at the small of your back.
“Nervous?” he teased as he led you inside.
“Should I be?” you shot back.
He smirked. “Not unless you’re scared of a little chirping.”
“Bring it on,” you said, trying to sound braver than you felt.
Inside, Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner were already seated at a booth in the back. Auston, dressed in a casual but clearly expensive jacket, leaned back in his seat with an air of quiet confidence, while Mitch, in a hoodie and baseball cap, was animatedly talking with his hands.
As you approached, they both turned to look at you, matching grins spreading across their faces.
“Oh, this is her,” Auston said, his voice dripping with mock seriousness.
“Yup,” Mitch added, leaning forward like he was studying a rare artefact. “The infamous Bruins fan.”
You rolled your eyes, already regretting agreeing to this. “You say that like it’s a bad thing.”
“It kind of is,” Mitch said, grinning. “You realise you’re surrounded by Leafs, yeah? This is enemy territory.”
“Trust me, I’m aware,” you replied as William gestured for you to sit beside him. “But don’t worry—I’ve faced worse.”
The dinner started off surprisingly light. Mitch was every bit as chatty as William had warned, firing off questions about your job, your favourite players, and how you’d managed to tolerate William for so long.
“So, you’re telling me you’ve never been tempted to switch allegiances?” Mitch asked, his eyes wide with mock disbelief.
“Not once,” you replied, smirking. “The Bruins are in my blood. I couldn’t switch even if I wanted to.”
“That’s unfortunate,” Auston said dryly, earning a laugh from Mitch. “You know, the Leafs are actually pretty fun to root for. Lots of drama. Great personalities. Decent playoff runs—sometimes.”
“Decent, huh?” you shot back, raising an eyebrow. “That’s a nice way of putting it.”
William groaned, shaking his head. “Here we go.”
“I like her,” Mitch said, nudging Auston. “She’s feisty.”
“Feisty is one word for it,” Auston muttered, though there was a hint of a smile on his face.
By the time the mains arrived, the teasing was in full swing.
“So,” Auston said, leaning forward with a smirk. “What’s the deal with you two during Leafs-Bruins games? Do you sit on opposite sides of the sofa? Or do you just spend the whole game chirping each other?”
“She chirps me,” William interjected, rolling his eyes. “Constantly.”
“Because it’s fun,” you said with a grin.
“Relentless,” William muttered, though the fondness in his voice was impossible to miss.
Auston raised an eyebrow. “You’re telling me you let her chirp you about our playoff history?”
“Let her?” William said, glancing at you. “Do I have a choice?”
“Not really,” you said, earning a laugh from Mitch.
When dessert rolled around, you’d fully settled into the chaos, even daring to dish it back when Auston teased you about your Bruins loyalty.
“So,” Mitch said, leaning forward with a mischievous glint in his eye. “Be honest—how long do you think you’re going to last with Willy here? Like, is this a phase, or are you actually in it for the long haul?”
“Mitch,” William groaned, burying his face in his hands.
You smirked, pretending to think. “I guess it depends on how many more overtime games Toronto lose this season. I might not survive the second-hand embarrassment.”
Auston nearly choked on his drink, and Mitch doubled over laughing while William shook his head, muttering something in Swedish that you were sure wasn’t very polite.
“You’re perfect for him,” Auston said once he’d caught his breath. “Seriously. I’ve never seen him this whipped before.”
By the end of the night, the nerves you’d felt walking in were a distant memory. As William walked you to the car, his hand lingering at your waist, you glanced up at him.
“Your friends are intense,” you said, smiling.
He chuckled. “You handled it like a pro.”
“I mean, I didn’t really have a choice,” you teased. “It’s survival of the fittest with you Leafs guys.”
William stopped, turning to face you, his expression softening. “Thanks for coming,” he said quietly. “I know it wasn’t exactly your ideal night.”
You shrugged, leaning into him. “It wasn’t so bad. They’re kind of fun. Don’t tell them I said that.”
He grinned, his hands sliding around your waist as he pulled you closer. “Your secret’s safe with me.”
And as he kissed you under the glow of the Toronto skyline, you realised that maybe, just maybe, this wasn’t such enemy territory after all.
_
The moment he stepped into the locker room, they ambushed him like a couple of schoolboys on a sugar rush.
“Well, well, well,” Mitch said, throwing an arm around William’s shoulders with an exaggerated grin. “If it isn’t Romeo himself.”
William groaned, shrugging Mitch off as he tossed his bag onto the bench. “I’m not doing this with you two.”
“Oh, but you are,” Auston said, leaning casually against the stalls with a smirk. “Because we’ve got questions, and you’re not getting out of here until we get answers.”
William sighed heavily, sitting down and bracing himself for the inevitable onslaught. “Fine. Go on then. Get it out of your system.”
Mitch wasted no time, pacing dramatically in front of him like a detective in a bad cop drama. “Alright, first of all—how the hell did you pull that off? A Bruins fan, Willy? I didn’t even know that was possible.”
“And not just any Bruins fan,” Auston chimed in, his grin widening. “She’s… normal. Like, she doesn’t seem like she’s in it for the clout or anything.”
Mitch nodded emphatically, spinning on his heel to face William. “And she chirps you. Constantly. And you let her! You, of all people. Mr. ‘I Don’t Take Chirps Lightly.’”
“She doesn’t let him win, either,” Auston added with a chuckle. “That’s the best part.”
William ran a hand through his hair, clearly exasperated. “Are you two finished yet?”
“Nope,” Mitch said, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed. “Because the real question is: how serious are you about her?”
William hesitated, his usual easy-going demeanour giving way to something more thoughtful. It wasn’t like him to open up about personal stuff—especially with these two—but he knew they wouldn’t drop it until he answered.
“Serious enough,” he said finally, meeting their expectant gazes.
Auston raised an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced. “Like, ‘introduce her to the family’ serious? Or just ‘let her chirp me until the playoffs’ serious?”
“The family already knows about her,” William admitted, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips. “Mum loves her. She keeps asking when she’s coming to Sweden.”
“Wait, wait, wait,” Mitch said, holding up a hand like he needed to process this information. “She’s met your mum?”
“Not in person,” William clarified quickly. “But yeah, they’ve talked.”
Auston let out a low whistle, leaning back against the lockers. “Wow. You’re really whipped, huh?”
William didn’t even bother denying it. Instead, he leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. “She’s different,” he said simply. “She doesn’t care about the fame or any of that. She gives me stick for it half the time. It’s… nice.”
Mitch and Auston exchanged a look, their usual teasing expressions softening just slightly.
“Alright, real talk,” Mitch said, dropping into the seat across from William. “She’s actually pretty cool. Like, way cooler than we expected.”
“Speak for yourself,” Auston said with a smirk. “I always knew Willy would end up with someone who could keep him in check.”
“She’s good for you,” Mitch added, his tone more sincere now. “You seem… happier. More like yourself.”
William looked at them, slightly surprised by the unexpected shift in tone.
“You’re not going to get all sappy on me now, are you?” he asked, though his voice lacked its usual sarcasm.
“Not a chance,” Auston said, pushing off the wall and grabbing his stick. “But seriously, she’s a good one. Don’t screw it up.”
“Yeah,” Mitch agreed, grinning as he followed Auston out to the ice. “And if you do, I’m calling her to hang out. She’s funnier than you, anyway.”
William shook his head, a small smile tugging at his lips as he started lacing up his skates. For once, he wasn’t annoyed by their chirps.
Because they were right.
_
The late afternoon sunlight spilled into your living room as you propped your phone against a stack of books, preparing for William’s usual post-practice FaceTime call.
“Miss me yet?” he asked the moment the screen lit up, his familiar grin filling the frame. He was still in his hoodie, his damp hair pushed back from his shower.
“Not even a little,” you teased, leaning back into the sofa, though your smile gave you away.
“Liar,” he said softly, his blue eyes warm as they held yours through the screen. “Because I know I miss you.”
Your heart fluttered, and you tucked your feet under you, trying to play it cool. “I thought you were supposed to be focusing on hockey.”
“I am,” he replied easily, “but you’re a bit distracting.”
You rolled your eyes, but the laugh you let out betrayed your affection. “You’re ridiculous.”
“Ridiculously charming, maybe,” he quipped.
“Debatable.”
The playful back-and-forth was interrupted by a sudden change in his expression, his grin softening into something more serious. “You know,” he said quietly, “Mitch and Auston really like you.”
“Oh, I can tell,” you said, raising an eyebrow. “They roasted me for two hours straight.”
“Yeah,” he said with a chuckle, “but that’s how you know they like you. Mitch already asked when you’re coming back to Toronto.”
“And Auston?”
William smirked. “He said you’re too good for me.”
You laughed, shaking your head. “Well, at least he’s honest.”
William’s smile lingered as he watched you, the silence between you warm and comfortable. For the first time in a while, you let yourself believe that maybe, just maybe, this thing between you was worth every chirp and challenge.

series masterpost

the lights were bright and colourful, decorations hung around the walls and tables, cocktails flooding the room, snacks upon snacks with laughter and love being shared with each other.
it was new years eve, therefore unsurprisingly celebrated at the marner residence. you were mingling with the rest of your friends on the arm of your boyfriend and known “greasy rat” michael bunting. it was the first christmas with bunts not playing for toronto anymore, however connections and bonds grow deeper than contracts and trades. so regardless of where you might be living right now, toronto is your home. and you were grateful to be spending your time with the group of people you feel most connected to.
later on in the night, some of the boys wanted to challenge each other in a game of pool. the rest of the wives and girlfriends stayed chatting in the living room with some glasses of wine. you took your cup, however you felt a hunch that you could have a bit more fun as a spectator for the game.
michael has had lingering touches on you all night, and you were starting to get more needy the more he spoke to the others. so what was a way to motivate him into fulfilling a need before the night ends? perhaps, you felt like being a little bratty today!
you sit on a couch in the game room, watching auston make sure the table is set up accordingly. the boys began barking at each other, teasing the other about who will win. they decided to play in pairs at first. auston with mo and bunts with willy. mitch was going to play, but he was chirped out of the group before he could even grab a stick. you giggled.
the first round wasn’t too bad. michael was carried by william’s strategic movements and consistent straight shots. you chose to make sure you praised willy as much as you could. you could notice the way bunts would hold his cue tighter, it only ignited you more.
however, auston and morgan put up a good fight, and got a two for one shot to win the game. that's when they decided to break off into individuals, mo and willy first—willy winning—and now aus and bunts, meaning you were ready to continue running your mouth.
music buzzed in the background from the other room. bunts is lining up his shot. you crossed your legs together, watching with a mischievous grin, sipping your drink.
“alright boys, watch and learn. ‘bout to end this game right now.” bunts says.
you snicker, “please! you’ve been saying that for the last ten minutes. just take the shot already, you self-proclaimed pool shark.” the boys giggle.
bunts pauses to glare at you “you wanna hop on this table and try your luck, or are you just here to run your mouth?”
you smile, already finding yourself under his skin. “why would i ruin this perfectly mid game with my superior skills? this tragedy is way more fun.”
“she’s got a point, man. you better not scratch this twice in a row. again.” mo says, finding himself betting on the underdog whilst reminding him of his faults. it made you giggle.
bunts straightens up in defense, “okay, first of all, those scratches were tactical. second—mo, didn’t you just miss a straight shot last game? sit down.”
willy laughs, “yeah, but at least he didn’t call it ‘tactical.’ you’re just making stuff up now.”
“‘tactical scratches’ is that what we’re calling choking these days?” you chirp again.
bunts smiles, “keep chirping, babe. the more you talk, the more i’m convinced you’ve never touched a cue in your life.”
“oh, i’ve touched a cue. i just don’t need to overcompensate for my lack of skills like some people.”
auston laughs,“she’s ruthless, man. you sure she’s on your side?”
bunts grabs the chalk, rubbing it dramatically on his cue “oh, she’s on my side. she just likes to act tough in public so she doesn’t seem too obsessed with me.”
you scoff. “obsessed? honey, i’m only here because the good snacks ran out, and watching you lose is free entertainment.” you smirk, sitting back and taking another sip of your drink.
“okay take the shot already kid.” mo says.
bunts points at the men in front of him, “you better hope i don’t win this game. i’ll make sure you guys never live it down.”
from the angle in which you sit, you have a deep feeling the ball will bounce too much off of the edge and miss the pocket completely.
bunts takes the shot. the ball indeed bouncing off the cushion and narrowly missing the pocket. you and the guys erupt into laughter.
“yeah, pool shark eh? more like a goldfish in a kiddie pool.” auston says, grinning with his head steady on the tip of his stick.
bunts straightens again, “big words from the guy who didn’t wanna play against me when we came to town.”
“i wasn't feeling well dumbass” auston remarks, poking your boyfriend with his stick.
“sure…” bunts says, smiling.
willy smirks, “don’t drag us into your weak game, bunts. you’re doing just fine embarrassing yourself without our help.” you grin at his words.
“you make a great point, willy! you should listen to him michael, he did carry you in the pairs game anyways.”
michael grins, “alright, alright, keep it coming. just remember, i only let you guys talk this much ‘cause i’m nice. otherwise, you’d be crying right now.”
the boys scoff and you couldn’t help but do the same. “crying? maybe from laughing too hard.” you say, moving your empty glass to the side. your boyfriend shoots you another playful glare.
it was now auston’s shot. he began to line himself in an angle that felt the most comfortable for him as well as guaranteeing enough of a push from the cue-ball to sink. and so he does. the sweet sound of a clink and the swish of the ball falling in the pocket, also known as the sweet sound of victory.
morgan pats bunts on the back. “don’t worry, bud. not everyone is cut out for this.” the rest of the boys giggle again and bunts smiles as well. its all playful banter at the end of the day. however not everyone gets let off so easy.
once the girls from the other room call everyone to get ready to watch the ball drop, you get pulled by your waist into michael’s frame. the door closing behind the boys.
“may i help you?” you inquire with sass whilst raising an eyebrow.
his hands snake tightly around your waist, pulling you snug against him. the tips of his fingers falling low and laying at the top of your ass.
“why do you always need to give me a hard time?”
“why are you so easy to chirp?”
he gives out a low chuckle, amused by the way you always manage to keep up.
“you gon let me go?” you ask, however not eager to escape his embrace.
“not till you apologize”
you hum, “you're asking for a lot from me, big boy.” he grins again, and you can't help but reciprocate it. he grabs you tight and lifts you onto the pool table, spreading your legs with his own. your stomach flutters in anticipation.
“just because you-” you were cut off by michael’s lips against yours. god, you’ve been waiting for him to shut you up. his lips move naturally with yours, nipping at your lip to allot space for his tongue to slip in.
the more the two of you engaged in this silent conversation, the more your body felt like it was on fire. your dress suddenly too warm and too tight, heat creeping up your chest and neck as you licked into bunts mouth, tasting the alcohol on his lips. whines began to escape you whenever you would break for air. nails denting his skin, an urge for him to not continue the teasing foreplay. your dress straps have fallen down your arms, dress scrunched up, exposing your thighs.
with one last kiss, michael fell to his knees. your hands immediately go to his hair, combing your fingers through his strands and tugging the more you feel his breath hover over your core. he looks up at you, his stupidly soft eyes asking for permission. his nose so close to your clit, breathing in your scent, his lips kissing the wet patch on your cotton fabric. “got you wet already huh?”
“god, please” you beg, feet on his shoulders, his fingers rolling down your panty, shoving it in his back pocket to keep it safe and sound. michael’s hands grab the skin on your thighs to hold them far apart, his head slotting in between.
bunts began agonisingly slow, tongue licking stripes up and down your folds, then licking circles around your needy clit. you were whining, pleading for him to hurry up but you figured you deserve the punishment. “you taste so good baby, all wet for me” you give out a huff.
“want more?” he asks, “is my baby needy?” the tone is playfully mocking you, which makes you smile internally. however, externally, his nose bumped into your hole so perfectly your face scrunched and your moan was your only answer.
he took that as his answer, two of his fingers slipping into your entrance and instantly feeling your pussy constrict around him—that was enough of a confirmation. his mouth sucks and nibbles on your cunt, releasing it when a pop before latching himself around it again. his digits moving in and out at such a speed, it was all, so much and yet just what you wanted.
your heels dug into michael’s shoulders and back, you grabbed a striped ball that was near you on the table, your fingers tight around it. really just looking for anything to ground you, the wash of euphoria beginning to overcome you. he gave you praises but they were lost in the air, your ears only hearing the noise coming out of your arched body.
you soaked his fingers, before he pulled them out to replace it with his tongue probing your entrance. he licked you clean and made sure to suck on your clit just a bit more gifting him with a whimper and a kick from your foot, the fresh sting of overstimulation evident.
bunts brings his fingers to your mouth, he taps your chin bringing your attention back to him, making you open your mouth. your tongue swirled around them, making sure you suck them clean. the taste of yourself giving you a buzz. bunts smiles, pulling you closer to the edge, you can feel his bulge against your thigh. you palm it, hand rubbing over the fabric of his pants. he lets out a low moan, grabbing your waist and enveloping his lips with yours.
“is this what you wanted all along? to fuck you here on this table? in mitchy’s place? everyone outside that door, capable of coming in at any moment?” there’s a dark shine in his eyes that matches the glossy layer of your juices smeared all over his lips and chin, the small droplets evident in his small scruff.
“maybe” you say, your fingers tugging at his pants, looking at him with a pair of doe eyes.
he grins again, unbuttoning his pants and taking his cock out of its constraint. he wraps your leg around him, your hand reaching to give him a few strokes, pre-cum around his pretty pink tip. he aligns himself to your entrance, and your hand reaches for his forearm while he slips in. “shit” you utter, head lolling back.
he gave a few long thrusts, indulging in the feeling of your warm wet walls wrapped around him. bunts looked down, seeing the way his cock is covered in your slick every time he slips out of you, you felt him twitch inside you.
“i nearly ruined them,” he grumbles, sucking a bruise into the soft skin of your neck. your foggy brain remembers how this started.
he smirks—its bait, hes trying to reel a remark out of you but hes also making it too hard to do so. not with the way his cock is balls deep inside you on a pool table in his teammates house, a room yet still clearly decorated by his wife. you still manage to scoff, so he decides to mock you some more. “what, too fucked to run your mouth anymore? yeah kind of like you better this way, don't you think?”
you would have continued with your bratty little comments, but, right now, you’re too focused on the feeling of his rough hand pressing circles on your enlarged clit. too focused on the wet of his mouth spreading over your breasts, his teeth running over you ever so gently, forcing you to whine back.
“i’m gonna ruin you though, that's for sure” he says with a smile as you fall back to lay down on the pool table, pushing your hips forwards with a hearty thrust. then another. and then another.
you shove your hand in your mouth, not necessarily eager to have someone eavesdropping or walking in to discover the two of you. bunts tries to pull your wrist away from your face, “no baby, you were making so much noise earlier, don’t shut up now”
your entire body rocked against the table as he bucked up into you, “bunts,” you uttered breathlessly as he stretched you out at a rhythm that was both so slow yet so hard at the same time.
“oh my god, you feel so- so-…” you swung your hand above you to grip on the edge of the table, your head right beside the cue-ball, your fingers accidently pushing a stick and hearing it clink against the hardwood floor, “fuck!”
“i feel so what, huh?” he teased your blissed-out babble, “so hard? so big? so good?” his thrusts began to grow more selfish, the lewd clapping of hastily exposed skin echoing and seemingly overpowering all the other noises that vibrated throughout the house, “you like how this cock fills you up to the fucking brim, do you?”
you bite down on your lip, mumbly noises escaping you as a response. your body is on fire, the pressure in your lower belly reaching a peak. one of his hands clutches to your hips to keep you still while he fucks the light of you with unbridled passion. you can feel every inch of your body vibrating to the sound the two of you make. your breath comes out forced in short breaths. “i’m gonna— fuck!” you manage out. you’re squeezing him so hard.
you finally hear loud noise coming from deeper inside the house, thankful the group is preoccupied. its new years, you reminded yourself, your head still a foggy blur. you hear counting, but not until it's muffled by the pounding of your heart.
bunts shares that last thrust that tips you over the edge. your walls flutter and contract around his cock as you reach the top of your climax. your eyes roll back. michael follows right after, spilling all of himself inside you while you ride that tide that makes your vision blur and ears ring. thats when the two of you hear cheering and laughter radiate throughout the house. your body feels electric. michael relishing in the bliss.
your hand seeks his, and he wraps it around yours immediately, tightly. your breathing becomes steady and you begin to sit up, bringing your boyfriend closer into your frame, a more than necessary hug. he gives a low giggle into your shoulder, happy to give you a cuddle. almost yearning for your soft side after your earlier scolding.
“happy new year!” you exclaim, however your voice more quiet and raspy than you anticipated. michael’s other hand moves to your cheek, a smile plastered on the man’s face.
“happy new year, babe!” he exclaims, equally as soft and intimate. you smile back, your familiar afterglow shining all over you. bunts isn't anything but grateful at this moment. to have you to start the new year, nevertheless the way the two of you entered it. best new years eve hands down, he states to himself. even if he lost both pool games.
“i hope your first new year’s resolution is to not be such a brat” bunts mentions playfully, quirking his head to the side.
you chuckle. “but i like the way you tame me”
michael grins. “there are pros to it. but maybe lay it off around the guys?”
“that's the best part!” you say, smirking.
“you don't quit, huh?”

When you had first got the call to do the shoot, you were over the moon. You’d been living in Toronto for as long as you could remember and living there also meant living so close to a rink to practice for all competitions. To most countries you were another figure skater, but to Canada you were a sensation, very close to Tessa Virtue.
When your coach told you that the leafs wanted to partner with you, you couldn’t help but be excited. So here you were walking down a tunnel following your stylist and a leafs representative. “Okay so Y/N, you’re going to change into these and we’ll see you back in that room.” They told you, handing you a jersey.
It was a regular leafs jersey with the blue being the prominent colour however, this jersey had the All-Star patch on the shoulder. You examined the jersey, looking at the back number, number 16, Marner. Your heart gushed and a blush rose to your cheeks.
You walked out of the change room and headed to the studio for where you’d be taking the photos. “You look great!” Your stylist gushed. “So we’re gonna have you stand there and Mitch over here will be right behind you.” The photographer said, pointing to Mitch who was beside him.
You nod your head, allowing the stylist and photographer to walk away, leaving you alone with Mitch. “Hey, sorry about the late notice. I thought they would’ve told you,” Mitch says nervously while shaking your hand. “Oh, no it’s fine. Makes me feel less nervous.” You say, giving Mitch a bright smile.
“This makes you nervous?” He motions to the photoshoot going on behind him. “Not all the times you perform in front of hundred of people.” You laugh at his exaggeration. “between you and me, the ice is my home. There’s no fear, there is only peace.”
Mitch looks at you with such adoration. All the words you were saying to him about skating are just what he felt when he played hockey. Although no one enjoys losing, he still felt better on ice than walking on concrete.
“Okay, you two lovey eye makers, time to do the shoot!” The photographer shouts. You and Mitch both blush but comply. The photoshoot went on calmly. You felt more comfortable knowing Mitch was in the room and the fact that he was whispering nice things in your ear and some poses being of him holding your waist and you two smiling at each other.
“Last shot. Mitch, I want you to point to y/n’s back while she stands facing you. So her face won’t be in shot.” The guy explains. You turned around to face Mitch to see him already staring at you before posing for the camera. You stared at him during the time and you could see the smirk growing on Mitch’s face.
“That’s it, folks! Good job everyone!” The photographer yelled out, already putting his equipment away. “Well, that’s it.” You say, facing Mitch, fiddling with your hand. “Maybe it can be a bit more.” He says confidently.
A half an hour later, you back at Mitch’s apartment and you back against his door and your lips attached to one another. You moan into Mitch’s mouth as he runs his hands over your body, feeling very curve. “Good, you’re so beautiful.” He groans, looking up and down your body.
“We should probably take this to your bedroom.” You suggest playing with the hem of his sweatshirt. “Yeah, one hundred percent.” He says, trailing kisses from your neck to your lips. “If we make it there.” He mumbles before crashing his lips to yours.
