We talk a lot about sisterhood in the Miss America program, and I'm sure that many people think we are just being "pageant-y." But my Miss America sisters truly make every experience and interaction better by bringing wisdom, humor, and honesty. My dear friend Paige is a prime example of that. She made the week in Iowa even better by her down to earth attitude & eagerness to help. How to sum up a year of 34,000+ miles driven, 35 school visits, hundreds of events, and performances for over 100,000 Iowans? Those number can't even begin to cover the things I have learned about myself: how to do hair and makeup while driving, how to make a stranger smile and a child believe in magic, how to stay calm despite crazy weather, schedule changes, and all kinds of craziness. What I have learned is only possible for the people who have supported me at Miss Iowa all the way to Miss America, from my Miss America sisters, to the people who have generously and warmly welcomed me into their communities, homes, and families, to my Miss Iowa sisters and board members, to Anna, Lydia, Peyton, to my beloved friends who were patient and supportive, and last of all, my boyfriend Mike who was only ever patient, supportive, and kind during this insanity-I could not be this woman without you. To Erika & my parents-thank you for loving this as much as I do and for loving me through my valleys and peaks. Thank you, to the state of Iowa for giving me a home and pride in my upbringing.
